TL- THE CONTACT WANTED TO USE THE COMPLAINT THAT WAS SENT VIA EMAIL. JO I PURCHASED THIS USED GMC SIERRA P/U IT HAD GOODYEAR WANGLER ATS TIRES. I WAS DRIVING ON OUR HIGHWAY 3 IN IOWA AND I WAS PASSING A BUS, AT ABOUT 70MPH THE TIRE SIDEWALL EXPLODED I HAVE A PICTURE TO SEND YOU IF YOU WANT TO SEE IT. LEFT FRONT TIRE. THERE WERE PLENTY OF TREAD AND THE AIR WAS AT PROPER NUMBERS. I WON'T BUY ANOTHER WANGLER BUT THINK IT WAS IMPORTANT TO LET YOU KNOW. UPDATED 01/14/13 *BF UPDATED 01/17/2013 *JS
SPEEDOMETER READING ERRATICALLY. 20MPH WHEN PARKED, SOMETIMES 40 WHEN PARKED. UNABLE TO DETERMINE ACTUAL SPEED. APPARENTLY THIS IS AFFECTING THOUSANDS OF GM VEHICLES AND GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. MAYBE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IS IN ORDER? A SILENT RECALL IS IN PLACE IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 80K MILES, IF YOUR VEHICLE FALLS WITHIN THE RANGE OF VIN #'S, IF IT HAPPENED ON A DAY THAT DOESN'T END IN Y. GM NEEDS TO BE RESPONSIBLE AND STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. ESPECIALLY IF THEY KNOW ITS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
COMPLAINT ON GM EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT DEFECT, INFERIOR BRAKE/ FUEL LINES. MINE IS A 2005 GMC. DEFECTIVE EXHAUST BOLTS AFFECT 12 MILLION GM TRUCKS FROM 1999 TO 2007. GM EXHAUST BOLTS ARE TO SMALL BRITTLE FOR SECURING EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. BOLTS SNAP OFF CAUSING EXHAUST LEAKS. TRUCKS NOT PASSING EMISSIONS AND DANGEROUS EXHAUST FUMES ENTERING THE DRIVERS COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLES WHILE DRIVING. I AND MY FAMILY GET A CARBON MONOXIDE HEADACHE WHEN I DRIVE IT AND HAVE HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FEELING LIKE I WAS GOING TO PASS OUT, OPEN WINDOWS AND SIT UNTIL I FELT BETTER. I HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS GETTING MY TRUCK TO PASS EMISSIONS DUE TO THE LEAKS AND THE LEAKS ARE CAUSING THE VEHICLES TO BE NONE EPA COMPLIANT BECAUSE OF O2 SENSOR ERRORS RESULTING IN FAILED EMISSION TEST. ALSO BRAKE AND FUEL LINES ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR NORTHERN STATES CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE WITH OUT WARNING, FUEL LINES ARE ALL RUSTED AND SWELLED IN DANGER OF BURSTING CAUSING FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. FORD AND OTHER VEHICLES I HAVE WORKED ON USE STAINLESS FUEL LINES AND LOOK LIKE NEW FOR LIFE OF VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO SEEN OTHER MANUFACTURERS USE POWDER COATED BRAKE LINES ON THE ENTIRE VEHICLE AND 20 YEAR OLD VEHILCES SHOW NO RUST PROBLEMS. MY 2005 GMC FROM THE REAR END BRAKE HOSE TO THE WHEEL CYLINDERS THEY USED POWDER COATED BRAKE LINES. THOSE LINES LOOK LIKE NEW YET. GM KNEW THE POWDER COATED LINES WERE BETTER WHY DID THEY USE FAULTY GALVANIZED STEEL ON THE REST OF THE TRUCK? AS IT IS NOW MY TRUCK CAN'T BE OPERATED ON THE ROAD WITHOUT $3000 IN REPAIRS DUE TO GM USING POOR QUALITY PARTS. THE TRUCK HAS HAD THESE PROBLEMS FOR OVER 5 YEARS NOW AND ONLY HAS 138,000 MILES. TRUCKS LIKE THIS IN SOUTHERN STATES HAVE OVER 250,000 MILES, LINES STILL GOOD. RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE. ALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE DEFECTIVE CAUSING THEM TO BREAK, WHEN THEY DO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SEPARATES FROM THE CYLINDER HEAD IN TURN DIRECTING ALL EMISSIONS FROM THE ENGINE INTO THE AIR, AND CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THIS COULD CAUSE A FIRE IF NOT CORRECTED. ONE SPARK WOULD SET THE VEHICLE ON FIRE. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AND APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP. I WAS ABLE TO ACTIVATE THE PARKING BRAKE AND SAFELY STOP THE TRUCK. ON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FACTORY INSTALLED STEEL BRAKE LINES FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE IS WELL CARED FOR AND HAS NO SIGNS OF BODY RUST BUT THE BRAKE LINES ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY FRONT TO BACK. *TR
THREE MONTHS PRIOR I LOST POWER STEERING BECAUSE OF A METAL LINE LEAK. THEN COMING UP ON TRAFFIC I'M APPLYING THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO PULL ON THE SHOULDER MY GMC WOULD HAVE SLAMMED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND WOULD HAVE PUSHED THAT VEHICLE INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF THAT ONE. HAVE NOT GOTTEN THE TRUCK BACK FROM THE SHOP YET BUT I COULD SEE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM A METAL BRAKE LINE. 2005 GMC 88,000 MILES THIS IS MY FIRST GMC AND MY LAST. I THINK ALL GMC PRODUCTS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD ILLUMINATE INCORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. UPDATED 2/25/13 *CN UPDATED 03/11/2013 *JS
ALL BRAKE LINES BADLY RUSTED. LINE ABOVE FUEL TANK RUSTED THROUGH AND LEAKED WHILE DRIVING. PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME WENT OFF ROAD. NO DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ACTIVATING THE A/C, THERE WAS SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE VENTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED AND FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE YEARS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED A SECOND TIME UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V043000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 06V417000 (AIR BAGS). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,510.
DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AT 40 WHEN A ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE A LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF ME . I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR . I SWERVED AND AVOIDED THE ON COMING VEHICLE . THE REAR HARD STEEL BRAKE LINE ABOVE THE FUEL TANK BURST DUE TO CORROSION . NO WARNING NO FLUID OR BRAKE LIGHT JUST A CATASTROPHE FAILURE OF LINE. UPON INSPECTION LINE IS NOT CORRODED ON THE FRAME RAIL BEFORE THE FUEL TANK JUST BEHIND THE TANK. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 2500-HD. THE CONTACT STATED DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT THE MECHANIC STATED THE POWER STEERING HOSE WAS LEAKING WHICH CAUSED HIM TO LOOSE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKING ABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V455000: STEERING: HYDRAULIC POWER ASSISTS: HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT STATED THERE WAS A RECALL BUT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED; THEREFORE, IT WOULD BE AT HIS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP TRUCK AND PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. FRONT BRAKE LINES HAD RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION. THIS TRUCK IS MY MAIN TOW VEHICLE AND I HAD A SMALL TRAILER ON WHEN THIS OCCURRED. MY TRUCK HAS NOT SEEN MUCH WINTER USE SINCE NEW AND I AM THE OWNER SINCE NEW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED BY A PRIVATE MECHANIC IT WAS FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 66,533.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD IN MY PICKUP TRUCK MY BRAKE LINES FAILED IN 2 SPOTS DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. I WAS PULLING A TRAILER ALSO. VERY VERY DANGEROUS. LUCKY TO HAVE ACTED SO FAST IN USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED OIL LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000. UPDATED 10/24/12 *CN UPDATED 11/08/12
STARTED THE TRUCK AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SHIFT INTO GEAR AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. AFTER SEVERAL TIMES PRESSING THE PEDAL THERE WAS NO BRAKES AT ALL. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE I WAS INFORMED ALL THE BRAKE LINE WERE RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1,300.00. THE TRUCK ONLY HAD 35,000 MILES ON IT. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING, I AM SURE THIS WOULD HAVE LIKELY CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
THE 2005 GMC 2500HD FWD (WELL MAINTAINED AND OILED TO PREVENT CORROSION) EXPERIENCED A FAILURE WHILE TOWING MY 24' PURSUIT FISHING BOAT (7200 LBS.) HOME FROM STURGEON POINT MARINA TO HAMBURG, NY 14075 (APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES) WITH "MINIMAL" STOPPING CAPABILITY AS THE DOT 3 BRAKE FLUID WAS BEING EXPELLED. I HAD TO FEATURE THE THROTTLE TO NEGOTIATE STOPPING SENARIOS WITHOUT ISSUE. AS OF 8/20/12, THIS VEHICLE IS WITH FUCCILLO CHEVROLET, INC. (GRAND ISLAND, NY) FOR OVERHAUL OF ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM; INCLUDING FUEL LINES. THE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED THE ENTIRE BRAKE LINES SYSTEM BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FUEL LINES DUE TO EXTREME CORROSION. ALL THIS WORK IS BEING PERFORMED SINCE THE EXCELLENT CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE.THE ESTIMATE FOR THIS WORK IS APPROXIMATELY $2250 TO REPLACE ALL LINES (BRAKE / GAS) AFFECTED BY SEVERE CORROSION. THIS CONDITION IS A RESULT OF POOR MATERIAL SELECTION NOT CAPABLE OF WITHSTANDING NORMAL WINTER CONDITIONS FOUND IN THE NORTHEAST. THE SAME STANDARDS SHOULD BE USED AS SELECTING EXHAUST SYSTEM MATERIAL. BRAKES CAN KILL YOU....EXHAUST SYSTEMS CAN NOT! FINAL NOTE: TRUCK DRIVEN 50 MILES PER WEEK TO WORK (10 MILES EACH DAY). DURING WINTER MONTHS, THE RESIDUAL SALT IS RINSED AS REQUIRED ON A WEEKLY BASIS (OR SOONER) TO PREVENT CORROSION. THIS TRUCK PRIOR TO WINTER DRIVING HAS HAD OIL APPLIED TO THE UNDERFRAME, APPARENTLY, THE BRAKE / FUEL LINE WHERE NOT ADEQUATELY TREATED. *TR
AS I WAS LEAVING HOME MY HOME AND APPROACHING STOP SIGN, MY BRAKES GAVE OUT. I LOCATED AN AREA NEAR THE REAR LEFT AXLE WHERE THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED AND BURST. INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE LINES SHOWS EXTENSIVE CORROSION ALONG THE ENTIRE LINES. *TR
I FOUND 2 BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ON MY 2005 SIERRA (70, 717 MILES), 1 ON EACH SIDE, 1 WAS ACTUALLY MISSING & THE OTHER WAS JUST HANGING THERE, I THEN WENT TO CHECK MY WIFE'S VEHICLE, A 2003 CHEVY TAHOE ( 90,420 MILES) & THAT ALSO HAS 2 MISSING , 1 FROM EITHER SIDE, YOU CANT IMAGINE HOW SICK I AM AT THIS POINT, BOTH OUR VEHICLES ARE IN NEED OF MAJOR REPAIRS, PLEASE TELL ME THAT GENERAL MOTORS WILL NEED TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES & MAKE THE NEEDED REPAIRS, SICK TO MY STOMACH & CASH STRAPPED, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON A DRIVEWAY AND THE BRAKE PEDAL LOST COMPLETE RESISTANCE AND WENT FLAT TO THE FLOOR. TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY WARNING INDICATORS. INSPECTION OF THE METAL BRAKE LINES POSITIONED NEAR THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL REVEALED THAT ALL FOUR LINES SHOWED SEVERE SIGNS OF CORROSION AND ONE OF THE LINES HAD PRODUCED A HOLE THEREFORE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. INSPECTION DISCOVERED THAT ALL THE VEHICLE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED, SOME TO THE POINT OF LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. *TR
EXHAUST IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. SERVICE MAN INFORMED ME OF BROKEN BOLTS AND THAT I MUST REPLACE BOTH MANIFOLDS BEFORE NEXT INSPECTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE MECHANIC STATED THE AIR BAG SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,800. ... UPDATED 08-07-12 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HIS VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. UPDATED 08/09/12
I BOUGHT MY GMC USED IN 2008 AND I HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL A JUNE OF 2012 WHEN MY SPEEDOMETER STARTED TO GET MY SPEED TOTALLY WRONG. AT TIMES IT WOULD SAY I WAS DRIVING OVER 120 MPH OR WHEN IN IDLE IT WOULD EVEN SAY THE SAME THING. THE SPEEDOMETER PICKS A DIFFERENT SPEED DAILY. JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO IN JULY OF 2012 MY GAS GAUGE WENT COMPLETELY OUT SO I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH GAS IT LEFT IN MY TRUCK. I HAVE TO GUESS BY MILEAGE NOW IN HOPES THAT MY ELECTRICAL DOESN'T GO COMPLETELY OUT NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FLYWHEEL BECAME CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE FLYWHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. *TR
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE, THE BRAKE PEDAL "WENT TO THE FLOOR". PUMPED BRAES ONCE AND STILL NO PRESSURE. WAS ABLE TO HEAR THE LEAK UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE AND BRAKE FLUID WAS OBVIOUS UNDER THE TRUCK. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE ONE OF THE LINES RUSTED THROUGH AT THE PLASTIC CLIP TO SECURE IT TO THE FRAME NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOOR BOARD. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ACCURATE SPEED RATES. THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD READ THAT THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 120 MPH WHEN THE CONTACT WAS ACTUALLY TRAVELING 60 MPH. THE CONTACT HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE PROBLEM IS A TOTALLY RUSTED-OUT SET OF STEEL BRAKE LINES THROUGHOUT THE GMC TRUCK. THE BURST BRAKE LINE IS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT IS THE LINE THAT RUNS FROM THE ANTILOCK BRAKE DISTRIBUTION POINT (ATTACHED TO THE FRAME BENEATH THE DRIVER SEAT). IT RUNS ALONG THE FRAME, ABOVE THE FRAME RAIL AND PAST THE STEERING BOX, AND THEN MAKES A RIGHT TURN BENEATH THE RADIATOR TO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE TRUCK, WHERE IT EXITS INTO THE WHEEL WELL AND CONNECTS TO THE FLEXIBLE BRAKE HOSE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE STEEL LINE BURST IN THE AREA ADJACENT TO THE STEERING BOX, SO THAT IT SPRAYS BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE STEERING BOX WHENEVER THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THIS QUICKLY EMPTIED THE RESERVOIR ON THE MASTER CYLINDER LEAVING ALMOST NO BRAKES AT ALL. THERE IS VERY MINIMAL BRAKING AVAILABLE WITH THE PEDAL FULLY DEPRESSED THE FLOOR. I INITIALLY EXAMINED THE SYSTEM TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY CHANCE OF A DO-IT-YOURSELF REPAIR BUT QUICKLY ABANDONED THAT IDEA. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE BADLY CORRODED AND COVERED WITH SCALE, SO THERE IS NO CHANCE OF CUTTING OUT THE BAD SEGMENT, DOUBLE FLARING THE ENDS, AND SPLICING-IN A SHORT SEGMENT TO REPLACE THE RUSTED-OUT PORTION OF THE BRAKE LINE. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES THROUGHOUT THE TRUCK ARE BADLY RUSTED AND LIKELY WILL FAIL AGAIN IF LEFT IN PLACE (ACCORDING TO THE GMC SERVICE MANAGER). THE BRAKE LINE THAT FAILED BURST IN A PART OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT THAT WOULD SEEM TO NOT EVEN BE EXPOSED TO ROAD SALT, SINCE IT IS INSIDE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND RELATIVELY SHIELDED FROM SALT SPRAY AND ROAD GRIME BY THE BODY, WHEEL WELL AND FRAME RAIL. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER IN MURPHY, NC ESTIMATES THAT IT WILL TAKE ONE OF HIS MECHANICS ALMOST A FULL DAY TO REMOVE ALL OF THE BAD BRAKE LINES AND FABRICATE REPLACEMENTS (THESE LINES ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN PREFABRICATED FORM FROM GMC. *JS
THE STEERING IS EXTREMELY LOSE WHERE I CAN TURN THE WHEEL ALMOST HALF WAY BEFORE IT TURNS THE TIRES. THE HEADLIGHTS MOVE CONSTANTLY AFTER BEING ADJUSTED AND MAKE IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE AT NIGHT. POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING ON SLOW RIGHT HAND TURNS. I SOMETIMES NEED TO BACK UP IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE TURN. I ALSO END UP CROSSING INTO ONCOMING LANES IF NO TRAFFIC IS COMEING TOWARDS ME. IF THERE IS TRAFFIC I NEED TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN UNTIL THE TRAFFIC CLEARS. DRIVER SEAT HEATER TURNS ON BY ITSELF CREATING AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION IN THE SUMMERTIME IN HIGH DENSITY TRAFFIC WITH SUN GLARE A PROBLEM AND AN INABILITY TO EFFECTIVELY TURN THE SEAT HEATER OFF. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REVIEWED BOTH BY THE LOCAL CHEVROLET AND GMC DEALERS WITH THE ULTIMATE CORRECTIVE ACTION BEING TO DISCONNECT THE SEAT HEATING ELEMENTS. WHILE THIS ADDRESSES SAFETY FOR ME IT FALLS SHORT OF PROVIDING ME WITH A FUNCTIONING SEAT HEATER AS PURCHASED. ALSO THE CORRECTIVE ACTION DOES NOT GIVE CONSIDERATION TO A POTENTIALLY GENERAL EXISTING PROBLEM---WHICH IS THE MORE IMPORTANT REASON THAT I MAKE THIS REPORT. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BREAKING OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE FOUR BROKEN ALREADY AND AN EXHAUST LEAK DEVELOPING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH TWO OF THE SAME TRUCKS THAT THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS POSTED ON THE WEB. I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS AND WORKED THEM HARD BUT HAVE NEVER SEEN A BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT ON ANY OF THEM. THIS CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS HAVING EXHAUST LEAKS UNDER HOOD COULD CAUSE A FIRE. AS FAR AS I KNOW GM HAS NOT ISSUED A BULLETIN OR RECALL ON THIS BUT THERE SHOULD BE SOME REMEDIATION AS THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND IT IS NOT A FAILURE CAUSED BY THE LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I HAVE ALSO HEARD REPORTS OF REPAIRED UNITS BREAKING AGAIN IN ABOUT THE SAME NUMBER OF MILES AND HAVING TO BE REPAIRED AGAIN. *TR
AFTER DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY SPEEDOMETER STUCK AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. WHEN PARKED IT WOULD SAY I WAS GOING AT ANY SPEED EXCEPT 0 MPH (FOR EXAMPLE 120 MPH.).
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA. WHILE PARKED WITH THE IGNITION TURNED OFF, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BLOWER MOTOR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.

BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. FRONT AND REAR MANIFOLD BOLTS HAVE BROKEN ON BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDES. AS A RESULT EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE NOW WARPING PUTTING UNDUE STRESS ON REMAINING MANIFOLD BOLTS AND CREATING AN EXHAUST LEAK. BOLTS ARE STEEL, MANIFOLDS ARE CAST, AND HEADS ARE ALUMINUM. DISSIMILAR METALS, HEAT, AND MOISTURE HAVE CAUSED THE BOLTS TO PREMATURELY RUST AND FAIL. EMISSIONS DILUTION WILL NOT ALLOW FOR A PASSING SMOG TEST IN 2013. GMC REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE AT HAND, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE ON ALL V8 ENGINES. ESTIMATE TO REPAIR; $2500. *TR

THIS MODEL YEAR HAS AN ENGINE DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE HEAD GASKET IS KNOWN TO BREAK CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. THIS CAN CAUSE SEVERAL SAFETY ISSUES DEPENDENT ON THE CIRCUMSTANCE AT THE TIME OF THE ENGINE OVERHEATING. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, IT IS OPENLY KNOWN THAT THIS IS A DEFECT FROM THE MANUFACTURER FOR THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE YEAR.
AT ANY RATE OF SPEED TRUCK WILL GO INTO REDUCED ENGINE POWER MUST PULL OVER OUT OF TRAFFIC AND KILL ENGINE WAIT A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND THEN RESTART SOMETIMES YOU CAN GO 1 MILE TILL HAPPENS AGAIN SOMETIMES 50 MILES VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR

AIRBAG ALERT IS ON DASH OF MY SIERRA, AT 38,000 MILES--DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE TO CHECK IT OUR; NO IDEA WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS. I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A PROBLEM WITH ANY HONDA PRODUCT I HAVE EVER OWNED--MANY SINE 1985. *KB
DEFECT DISCOVERED THIS DATE, BUT KNOWN BY MANUFACTURER. EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BREAKING, LEADING TO EXHAUST GASES LEAKING UNDER HOOD WHICH WILL LEAD TO EMISSION PROBLEMS. LEARNED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM 8 CYLINDER TRUCKS MADE FROM 1999 TO 2007, WHICH INVOLVES ABOUT 12 MILLION VEHICLES. THE REPAIR COST IS $800 TO $1000, AND GM HAS NOT RECALLED OR OFFERED TO EXTEND WARRANTY TO COVER THE REPAIR. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND GM SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
I DROVE INTO LUMBER YARD HIT THE BRAKES AND THEY WERE GONE. AS MY SPEED WAS LOW DUE TO PARKING LOT, I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT INCIDENT. BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND ALL THE BRAKE FLUID DRAINED INTO PARKING LOT. I HAD THE BRAKE LINES REPAIRED AT CONSIDERABLE COST AS THEY WERE ALL RUSTED. THEY NEEDED TO BE CUSTOM BENT BY THE SHOP. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT OR KILLED. THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I HAD RUST IN ALL LINES AND THE GROUPING OF LINES OVER THE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME RAIL NEXT TO FRONT TIRE WAS THE CULPRIT AREA WITH ALL LINES RUSTED THRU. I HAD NO STOPPING POWER. I HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA K1500. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LOSE POWER STEERING AND HE WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER STEERING LINE HAD RUSTED AND CAUSED IT TO LEAK POWER STEERING FLUID. THE DEALER OR MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 56,600.
