TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 3500HD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LUNGE FORWARD; FOLLOWED BY THE ILLUMINATION OF THE ABS WARNING LIGHT AND A CHIME SOUNDING INSIDE THE VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED BOTH FRONT BRAKE HUBS AND SENSORS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER THE PARTS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE EXTENDED SERVICE WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. UPDATED 9/13/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS LIGHT CHIMED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL FAILED AND THE GAUGES WERE NOT READING ACCURATELY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE INSTRUMENTAL CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
ODI #10403836, 2005 GMC 1500 SIERRA, VIN#, COMPLETE FAILURE OF DASH INSTRUMENTS, STARTED WITH THE OIL GAUGE, THEN THE RPM INDICATOR, NOW THE SPEEDOMETER, RUNS UP TO 120 MPH SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK ONLY GOING AT UNKNOWN, UNSAFE SPEED WHICH I CAN ONLY ASSUME TO BE THE LEGAL LIMIT OF 70 MPH, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS A MONETARY LOSS FOR ACCIDENTS AND OR SPEEDING TICKETS. IN ADDITION THE INSTRUMENT LIGHT FOR THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT WORK AND YOU CAN NOT TELL WHAT GEAR YOU ARE IN ANOTHER POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ON TOP OF THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON REPEATEDLY CAUSING MINOR REPAIR COSTS EACH TIME IT OCCURS. THERE HAS TO BE CUSTOMER RECOURSE, WHEN THIS ORIGINALLY STARTED THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT NOT TO WORRY AS SOON A RECALL WOULD BE ISSUED AS IT HAD FOR THE PRIOR YEARS, AS YET NO OFFICIAL RECALL OTHER THAN THE TRANSMISSION PANEL LIGHT FAILURE WHICH CURRENTLY COVERS 7,194 VEHICLES BUT GMC STATES THAT MINE IS NOT COVERED? ONE WONDERS WHY WHEN THEY SAY QUALITY IT IS A JAPANESE AUTO! IF INDEED ALL OF THE CONSUMERS WITH A COMPLAINT FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM WOULD GATHER UNDER A LEGAL ACTION, I AM SURE THAT GMC WOULD HAVE TO COMPLY AND REPAIR AND SOME POINT IN TIME. I HAVE OWNED GMC AUTOS AND TRUCKS ALL OF MY LIFE, I CURRENTLY HAVE A 77 CHEV. PICK UP THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL STILL WORKS, I HAVE A 1995 GMC SIERRA THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STILL WORKS, I HAVE LEFT INSTRUCTIONS WITH MY FAMILY THAT IF I AM IN A WRECK DUE TO EXCESSIVE SPEED AND OR MISTAKENLY PLACE THE VEHICLE IN THE WRONG GEAR AND BACK OVER A CLIFF THAT THEY ARE TO SUE GMC. MY NEXT ACTION IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING ON DRY ROADS AND BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS ABNORMALLY ACTIVATES WITH OUT WARRANT. THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS AND HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HAVE SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I CALLED THE GM DEALER TO SEE IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOT AND I COULD BRING IT IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE. I SEE THERE ARE OTHER COMPLAINTS HERE AT THE NHTSA FOR THE SAME THING. SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FOUND THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT GM HAS DONE A RECALL ON 1999-2002 VEHICLES. I ALSO FOUND THAT GM KNOWS THEY STILL HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THERE ABS BECAUSE THEY HAVE PUT OUT A TSB # 03-05-25-007D ON IT, AND THE NHTSA HAS IT LISTED ON THERE BULLETIN SECTION. MAJOR RUST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY 2005 GMC SIERRA 78,000 MILES. SO FAR HAD TO REPLACE BRAKE ROTORS, BRAKE LINES , FUEL RADIATOR AND LINES. FRAME AND CROSS MEMBERS AS WELL AS CONTROL ARMS ARE ALL RUSTED. MADE COMPLAINT WITH GMC THEY HAD ME BRING TO A DEALER TO TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL RUSTING. TWO OF MY RELATIVES HAVE THE SAME YEAR TRUCK BUT ARE NOT EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE AND WE ALL LIVE IN THE SAME AREA DRIVE SAME ROADS. *KB
NOTICED VEHICLE VIBRATION FROM THIS FIRST WEEK I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. THE DEALER SAID THEY WILL LOOK AT IT AND FIX ANY PROBLEM..THEY LOOK AT THE TRUCK AND SAID THE VIBRATION WAS NORMAL. I WENT TO THE AUTOMOBILE COMPLAINT CENTER AND HAD A JUDGE LISTEN TO THE "LEMON" ISSUE. THE JUDGE ORDER A DIFFERENT MACHANIC TO EVALUATE THE TRUCK. HE DID AND SAID "YES IT VIBRATES TOO MUCH". THE JUDGE ASKED THE GMC COMPANY REP WHAT COULD BEEN DONE. HE SAID THE SAME THING THAT I HAVE READ BEFORE... THAT IS TO PUT 500 LBS IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. THAT DID NOT HELP. AT ABOUT 45 MPH LIKE TIRE OUT OF ROUND. AT 55 MPH AND GREATER, VIBRATION FELT LIKE TIRE OUT OF BALANCE. GM TELLS ME PROBLEM IS NORMAL, WILL NOT CORRECT. GM CALLS THE PROBLEM "BEAMING", AND SUGGESTS PLACING 500 LBS IN BED OF TRUCK. TRIED THIS AND VIBRATION STILL EXISTS. TRUCK SHAKES SO BAD AT 65 MPH THAT MY WIFE WHATED TO GET A HEAVY DUTY BRA. , . . THE VEHICLE NOW HAS DEVELOPED A HARMONIC NOISE AT 45 MPH AND LESS, WHICH THE DEALER TELLS ME IS ALSO NORMAL AND WILL NOT REPAIR. *NM *TR
PRIOR TO THE BEGINNING OF THIS PROBLEM, THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED TO FULL, A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WOULD SURROUND THE VEHICLE AND FUEL WOULD BEGIN TO DRIP FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE IN THE AREA OF THE FUEL TANK. WHEN TANK WAS FILLED ONLY PARTIALLY (BELOW 75%) ONLY THE STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE WOULD OCCUR AFTER REFUELING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A GM DEALERSHIP AND AN INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED AND A CRACK WAS FOUND IN THE FUEL TANK WHERE THE FILLER NECK ATTACHES TO THE BODY OF THE FUEL TANK. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED. *TR
SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT HAS COME ON 3X IN THE LIFE OF THIS VEHICLE (AT 99,500 MILES CURRENTLY). FIRST WAS FOR RIGHT FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR. - REPLACED AT A COST OF 300+ DOLLARS AROUND 65K MILES. SECOND WAS SEAT SENSOR - RECALIBRATED IT, NO CHARGE. NOW AT 99,500 MILES MY LEFT FRONT AIRBAG SENSOR IS BAD. - REPLACED IT MYSELF AT A COST OF $100. AIRBAG ISSUES AT THIS LOW OF MILEAGE IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
GM STATES THAT DEXRON-VI IS FULLY BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE WITH ALL DEXRON-III APPLICATIONS. MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 GMC SIERRA K2500HD, WITH AN 8.1L GASOLINE ENGINE AND ALLISON 1000 TRANSMISSION. AFTER PERFORMING A ROUTINE SERVICE ON MY TRANSMISSION (FLUID DRAIN AND REFILL), REPLACING THE DEXRON-III WITH DEXRON-VI, I NOTICED THE SEALS AND GASKETS LEAKING FROM AROUND THE TRANSMISSION. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THE SYNTHETIC DEXRON-VI IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH CERTAIN SEALS INSTALLED IN ALLISON BRAND TRANSMISSIONS. ALLISON TRANSMISSION DOES NOT APPROVE THE USE OF DEXRON-VI IN ITS TRANSMISSIONS DUE TO THE SEAL INCOMPATIBILITY (ALLISON SERVICE TIP #1099P). ANOTHER ALLISON DOCUMENT (SA5429EN) LISTS TWO SERIAL NUMBER CUTOFFS, PRIOR TO WHICH CONTAIN SEALS INCOMPATIBLE WITH DEXRON-VI. THE SITUATION HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED - GM DENIES ANY POSSIBLE INCOMPATIBILITY, AND WILL NOT WARRANT ANY DAMAGES, WHILE ALLISON REPRESENTATIVES HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS A DIRECT RESULT OF DEXRON-VI. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE ALL OF THE SEALS IN THE TRANSMISSION IS $1,900.00. *TR
SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK CORRECTLY, READING 60 MPH WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING APPROX 40. ALSO BULBS BURNED OUT IN IT MAKING IT UNREADABLE AT NIGHT. BULBS ARE NON-REPLACEABLE IN THIS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, SO YOU NEED TO REPLACE ENTIRE CLUSTER TO FIX BULB ISSUE. POOR DESIGN, EXPENSIVE, AND ANNOYING PROBLEM AT ONLY 99,000 MILES. *TR
WAS ON MAIN ROAD GOING 50MPH AND APPROACHING STREET THAT I LIVE AT, APPLIED BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, AND PEDAL WHEN TO FLOOR. I THEN STARTED TO DOWNSHIFT INTO LOWER GEARS AND APPLIED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. I HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND CAUSE WAS METAL BRAKE LINE TO RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS RUSTED OUT. ALSO ALL THE OTHER LINES WERE VERY RUSTY AND SHOULD BE REPLACED.....OTHERWISE OTHERS WILL GO SOON AND IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. IT WAS MENTIONED THAT GMC AND CHEVY TRUCKS IN A CERTAIN YEAR RANGE (SUCH AS THIS) HAVE THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM IS LOCATED NEAR THE FRAME AND THUS ALL LINES ARE EXPOSED TO SALT ETC.......WHERE AS IN A CONVENTIONAL DESIGN THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM IS LOCATED ON THE FIRE WALL AND ONLY ONE LINE (THE LINE THAT GOES TO BACK) IS EXPOSED TO SALT ETC AND IS USUALLY MADE OF RUST PROOF MATERIAL. THE BRAKE LINE THAT IS USED ON THIS TRUCK IS MADE OF CHEAP STEEL WHICH WILL RUST.....NOT RUST PROOF LINES SUCH AS "ARMOR COAT TYPE BRAKE LINES". THIS REPAIR COST ME $700 2ND ITEM: WHILE ON THE SUBJECT OF BRAKE SYSTEM ON THIS TRUCK.....I HAVE FOUND THAT IN CERTAIN CONDITIONS THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM IS TOO SENSITIVE AND CAN ACTUALLY MAKE THING WORSE UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARE TIRE CABLE WOULD NOT RELEASE THE TIRE AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE SPARE TIRE HOUSING UNIT WAS REMOVED IN ORDER TO CUT THE CABLE HARNESS WHICH ALLOWED THE TIRE TO DETACH. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE SPARE TIRE HOUSING UNIT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE DRIVER SEAT HEATER RANDOMLY TURNS ON BY ITSELF. IT RANDOMLY SWITCHES FROM THE SEAT TO THE BACK OF THE SEAT TO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. WHEN I TURN IT OFF IT JUST COMES RIGHT BACK ON AGAIN. I HAD THE MODULE IN THE DOOR REPLACED ONE TIME, BUT IT STILL DOES IT. I LIVE IN THE SOUTH, SO IT'S EXTREMELY UNBEARABLE DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. I WILL GO FOR WEEKS AT A TIME WHEN IT DOESN'T DO IT, BUT THEN IT JUST SEEMS TO START AGAIN. THERE REALLY DOES NOT SEEM TO BE ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR THAT TRIGGERS IT. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS GETTING WET WHEN IT RAINS, BUT SINCE I LIVE IN THE SOUTH WE HAVE HIGH HUMIDITY 95% OF THE TIME, SO WE HAVE MOISTURE PROBLEMS HERE ALL THE TIME. I CAN GO FOR WEEKS THAT IT DOESN'T HAPPEN, THEN IT JUST STARTS UP AGAIN. I HAVE SEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON GOOGLE AND FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, BUT I CAN NOT FIND A SAFETY RECALL ISSUED BY GMC. *TR

THE SPEEDOMETER HAS STARTED ACTING ERRATICALLY ON MY 2005 GMC SIERRA WITH 70,000 MILES. IT WILL READ 20 TO 30 MPH LESS THAN ACTUAL SPEED. THIS HAPPENS ERRATICALLY SO I HAVE TO MONITOR THE TACH TO MAKE SURE I AM CLOSE TO THE POSTED SPEED, MAYBE. *TR
THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE STARTED ROTATING IN THE HUB ASSEMBLY, ABS LIGHT CAN ON AND IT STARTED TO MAKE GRINDING SOUND IN MY 2005 GMC SIERRA, THE REPAIR WAS DONE AT THE DEALERS; THE SERVICE MAN SAID THAT WAS THE SECOND ONE OF THESE FAILURES HE HAD SEEN. *TR
2005 GMC SIERRA WITH 68,000 MILES HAD WHEEL BEARING FAILURE ON PASSENGER SIDE. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP DUE TO MY FEAR OF POSS LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. *TR
2005 GMC SIERRA TRUCK WITH 5.3L MOTOR. EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS FAILURE. *TR
SPEEDOMETER FLUXUATE SPORADICALLY, WRONG SPEED SHOWING. TOOK TO DEALER, DIAGNOSIS AS COMPONENT FAILURE. GMC ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM, BUT REFUSE TO RECALL. DEALER WILL REPLACE ODOMETER IF LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO ILLUMINATE AND DISPLAY WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE WAS POSITIONED IN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
NOTICED A NOISE IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION/DRIVE TRAIN. AN ALIGNMENT SHOP CHECKED THE FRONT END AND THEY FOUND THAT THE FRONT SEALED WHEEL BEARINGS WERE ABOUT TO HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. VEHICLE HAS 65,000 MILES AND HAS NEVER BEEN SUBJECTED TO HARSH ENVIRONMENTS. WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY. SEALED BEARINGS HAVE NO MAINTENANCE OPTIONS AND CAN CREATE AN ACCIDENT. LEARNED OF OTHER GMC FRONT WHEEL BEARING ISSUES WHILE MEETING WITH THE SHOP TO ARRANGE FOR REPAIRS. *TR

2005 GMC 2500 HD SIERRA 4X4 SPEEDOMETER IS STUCK ON 120MPH AND NEVER READS BELOW 70 HEAD LIGHTS SHUT OFF FOR NO REASON WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. MILEAGE ODOMETER WAS MOVING 1 MILE FOR EVER 30 MILES I DROVE NOW IT WENT BLACK ALL TOGETHER AUTO SEAT ADJUSTMENT IS STUCK AND WILL NOT WORK RIGHT ALL DASH LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING AND EVERYTIME I UNLOCK THE TRUCK THE ALARM GOES OFF , I HAVE TO PUT THE KEY IN AND TURN IT TO STOP THE ALARM. *TR
MY 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500 4X4 PICKUP'S SPEEDOMETER WILL NOT GO BELOW 45 MPH AND PEGS OUT AT 120 MPH. THIS HAPPENED SUDDENLY, IT HAS BEEN THIS WAY FOR OVER 1 WEEK. I HAVE TRIED TURNING ON AND OFF, LEAVING OFF AND RESTART. DEALERSHIP SAYS NO RECALL; NOT THEIR RESPOSIBILITY.. ANOTHER SHOP WILL CHARGE OVER $600.00 TO REPAIR IN WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. I READ ON LINE THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF GMC'S WITH THIS ISSUE. WHERE IS HELP FOR THE CONSUMER???? *TR

EXHAUST LEAKING UNDER HOOD DUE TO BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS. CARBON MONOXIDE HAZARD. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR OWNERS OF SEVERAL YEARS OF GM ENGINES. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT TURN OFF. SERVICE AIR BAG INDICATOR IS ON WHEN THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENT OR BUMP TO THE VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS HANGING ABNORMALLY FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 81,000. UPDATED 02/02/11 *CN
A FRIEND WAS DRIVING MY 2005 GMC SIERRA CREW CAB 2WD ON OCTOBER 2, 2010 DOWN THE INTERSTATE ON HER WAY TO MEMPHIS, TN FROM ASH, NC TO PICK ME UP. SHE HAD THE CRUISE SET AT 70MPH AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE SPEEDOMETER JUMPED TO 110MPH! THANKFULLY SHE WAS USING A GPS UNIT AND WAS ABLE TO TELL HOW FAST SHE WAS ACTUALLY GOING. WHEN SHE MET UP WITH ME THE NEXT MORNING I LOOKED AT THE SPEEDOMETER WITH THE ENGINE OFF AND ON AND THE NEEDLE WAS STUCK AT 50-60MPH WITH THE VEHICLE SITTING STILL. ON THE DRIVE BACK TO NC IT READ ANYTHING FROM 100-120MPH AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS. JUST ABOUT 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE STARTED ACTING UP ALSO. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. I HAVE CALLED THE LOCAL GM DEALER'S PARTS DEPARTMENT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THE THAT PART IS APPROX $300+ AND IT IS UNCERTAIN HOW LONG IT WOULD BE TO GET ONE IN. IF THE WAREHOUSE DOES NOT HAVE ONE IN STOCK THEY WILL HAVE TO SEND MINE OUT FOR REPAIRS AND IT COULD TAKE A WEEK. DURING THIS TIME I WILL NOT HAVE A VEHICLE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE TRUCK BEING OUT OF WARRANTY AND NO RECALL BEING ISSUED. *TR
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. VERY DANGEROUS - WHILE TRYING TO RESUME SPEED ON AN INTERSTATE I NEARLY CRASHED INTO THE INTERSTATE BARRIER/WALL ON A CURVE THE OTHER NIGHT BECAUSE THE SPEEDOMETER READ 70. NOW IT START OF OK AND THEN BEFORE YOU KNOW IT WILL START TO DROP AND AFTER A STOP WILL STAY AT 0 WHILE DRIVING INTERSTATE SPEEDS, WILL STICK AT 55 WHEN PROBABLY GOING ABOUT 10. IT IS ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE FAILURE IS NOW DAILY AND IS FAR TOO DANGEROUS TO MY FAMILY AND I TO DRIVE. HOPE THIS GETS RECALLED QUICKLY BEFORE IT CAUSES DEATHS. *TR

AT 78,000 MILES SPEEDOMETER PEGGED OUT AT 120 MPH. PULLED CLUSTER PANEL AND PUSHED NEEDLE BACK DOWN TO 0. WORKED FINE FOR ABOUT 3,000 MILES. NOW IT IS A EVERYDAY REPAIR. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN. 2005 GMC 2500HD PICKUP TRUCK, HVAC BLOWER SPEED CONTROLLER/RELAY CONNECTOR GOT HOT, BURNED OUT CONNECTOR AND WIRE, LOTS OF SMOKE. IT HAPPENED WHEN TURN FAN TO HIGH. THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO CONTACT RESISTANCE AT THE CONNECTOR. THE WIRE HARNESS END IS TINTED COPPER, THE RELAY/CONTROLLER CONNECTOR IS BARE METAL. DUE TO GALVANIZATION OF DIFFERENT METAL IN THE CONNECTION SYSTEM, THE CONNECTOR IS UNDERSIZE FOR THE BLACK WIRE, WHICH IS THE RETURN CURRENT BECAUSE THE BLOWER ASSEMBLY IS PLASTIC. THE RESISTANCE BETWEEN THE CONTACT POINT OF THE CONNECTOR ACT AS HEATER AND GOT HOT, BURN OUT CONNECTION AND CONNECTOR HOUSING. THE SPEED CONTROL UNIT, WHICH COMPOSED OF FEW POWER RESISTOR IS MOUNTED IN THE AIR STREAM THAT IT WILL COLLECT VAPOR WATER DUE TO CONDENSATION WHEN AC IS IN USED. THIS CAUSE CORROSION IN THE SPEED CONTROLLER/RELAY BOARD. THE WORK AROUND IS BYPASS THE CONNECTOR BY SHORTING THE BLACK WIRE FROM THE BLOWER MOTOR TO THE BLACK INPUT WIRE THAT BURNED OUT. CUT THE INPUT BLACK WIRE, WIRE NUT IT TOGETHER WITH A 12 AWG JUMPER WIRE, CUT THE BLACK WIRE AT THE BLOWER MOTOR, WIRE NUT IT TO THE OTHER END OF THE JUMPER WIRE. AFTER THE JUMPER PUT IN, BLOWER FAN WORKS IN ALL SPEED AND NO SMOKE FROM CONNECTOR AND WIRE. *TR
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FEATURE ENGAGES AT LOW SPEEDS (APPROX 5 MPH AND BELOW) WHICH CAUSES INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM AT THESE SPEEDS. NO REPAIR HAS BEEN MADE YET. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A COMPLAINT AGAINST GM FOR BRAKE LINE CORROSION ISSUES & EXCESSIVE FRONT ROTOR/PAD WEAR. I HAVE A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500 2WD CREW CAB WITH THE VORTEC 5300 MOTOR. I HAVE REPLACED SEVERAL SETS OF FRONT PADS AND ROTORS AND HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES THAT LEAD TO THE REAR WHEELS. I WAS NOT AWARE THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNTIL I DID SEARCH ONLINE. MOTORTREND REPORTED IN MARCH OR APRIL OF 2010, AN INVESTIGATION WAS OPENED FOR GM VEHICLES UP TO AND INCLUDING MODEL YEAR 2003. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS WERE BROKE ON SIDE OF THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SO FAR. THE MECHANIC AT FW TUCKER AND SON, IN, OSWEGO, NY 315-342-0444 STATED THAT THEY HAVE REPLACED THESE ON 12 TRUCKS AND AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN OVER 12,000 VEHICLES THAT HAVE TO HAD THESE REPLACED. THE TRUCK IS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 54,000 MILES ON IT. I CALLED AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GMC (SERVICE REQUEST #[XXX] ) AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY FOUND THAT IT WASN'T A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY FOUND NO INDICATION THAT IT WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM, HOWEVER 12,000 VEHICLES IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 2500HD TRUCK. I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD REMOVED, TO HAVE THE BOLTS EXTRACTED, THE COST OF THE NEW BOLTS AND THE INSTALLATION OF THE BOLTS, NEW EXHAUST MANIFOLD GASKETS AND SEALS.
