BRAKE FAILURE CAUSED BY CORRODED BRAKE LINES. *TR
THE VIN NUMBER IS COMING UP AS A 2006 GMC SAVANNA ON YOUR SITE SAFECAR.GOV UNDER RECALL LOOKUP BY VIN. IT SHOULD BE 2006 GMC SIERRA DENALI 1500 TRUCK.I WOULD LIKE IT CORRECTED IF POSSIBLE SO I CAN SEE CURRENT RECALLS. THANK YOU *TR
2006 GMC SIERRA QUIT RUNNING ON A TRIP WE WERE TAKING. IT STARTED MISSING AND EVENTUALLY WOULDN'T RESTART. THE TRUCK HAS 82K ON IT AND IS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. THE ENGINE WOULD TURN OVER BUT NOT START... NO SPARK? IT HAS BEEN TO VARIOUS SERVICE MECHANICS AS WELL AS MY ATTEMPT TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. MANY NEW PARTS HAVE BEEN USED: ICM, CRANK SENSOR, CAM SENSOR, COIL... NO DIFFERENCE. THIS VEHICLE QUITTING ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY COULD HAVE CAUSED SIGNIFICANT INJURY TO MYSELF AND/OR MY PASSENGER. WHEN THE TRUCK WAS NEW IT HAD AN INTERMITTENT MISS AND WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY I RETURNED TO THE DEALER. THERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING THAT WOULD CAUSE THE PROBLEM. THIS SAME MISS WAS PERIODICALLY PRESENT UP UNTIL THE TIME IT QUIT RUNNING ALTOGETHER.
I HAD JUST REPLACED THE THIRD SET OF WHEEL BEARINGS, ASKED MY WIFE TO HOLD BRAKE SO THAT I COULD TORQUE AXEL NUT. WHEN SHE PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL, I SEEN BRAKE FLUID POURING DOWN THE FRAME OF TRUCK. CHECKED LINES ALL WERE RUSTED VERY BAD. CALLED MATHENY MOTORS OF PARKERSBURG WV. THE COST OF REPLACEMENT OF LINES WAS QUOTED AT OVER $1200.00 I CAN NOT EXPRESS ENOUGH HOW UPSET I AM THAT THIS SAFETY ITEM WAS NOT MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS AT THE COST OF ALMOST $40,000.00. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATER BLOWER RELAY SWITCH WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN A STAND STILL, AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONER, THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATER BLOWER REPLAY SWITCH AND HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED IN 2015 THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED, BUT IN 2020 IT WAS REPLACED AGAIN ALONG WITH THE MELTER WIRE HARNESS. *AS
BRAKE LINES RUSTING OUT NEEDED IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT IN VIRGINIA WHERE LITTLE SALT IS USED. *TR
WAS COMING TO A STOP LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. HAD TO STEP ON SEVERAL TIMES TO GET STOPPED. THE FACTORY ELECTRICAL WIRE IN FACTORY LOOM IN FACTORY CLAMP HOOKED TO BRAKE LINE WORE A HOLE THROUGH BRAKE LINE TO RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. WORE THROUGH DIRECTLY UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER. LUCKILY I WAS NOT GOING AT HIGH SPEED OR THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A FATAL INCIDENT!!!!!!!!! THIS IS SOMETHING THAT COME FROM FACTORY AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
MY 2006 GMC HAS ONLY 29,000 MILES ON IT. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN OCTOBER 2009 WITH 16,000 MILES. I KEEP THE TRUCK CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT, TOP TO BOTTOM INCLUDING UNDER THE VEHICLE. PEOPLE COMMENT TO ME ALL THE TIME ON HOW NICE THE TRUCK LOOKS. BRAKE LINE LET GO IN YARD. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKES HAD TO HIT REVERSE THEN NEUTRAL AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAD JUST RETURNED HOME FROM GOING UP TOWN. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED WHERE IT DID. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING 40 YEARS AND ONLY REPLACED ONE BRAKE LINE IN A 11 YEAR OLD FORD TRUCK AND THAT WAS JUST A SECTION NEAR A BEND. THIS TRUCK NEEDS TO HAVE ALL THE LINES REPLACED. I JUST REPLACED ALL THE TRANSMISSION LINES 4 MONTHS AGO FOR $800.00. SAME THING, ALL RUSTED. I LIVED IN MASSACHUSETTS MY WHOLE LIFE AND I DO MY BEST TO KEEP THE SALT OFF THE TRUCK. LAST TIME I EVER SEEN RUST ISSUES THIS BAD WAS IN THE 1970S WHEN CARS WOULD START RUSTING OUT AFTER 3 YEARS BECAUSE OF THE REUSED STEEL THAT CAME FROM OVERSEAS. *TR
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TAIL LIGHT LENSES SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE THE TAB THAT SECURES THE LENSES TO THE VEHICLE BREAKS AND THE RESULT IS LIGHTS JUST HANGING ON THE TRUCK BY THE ELECTRICAL CORDS. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM INVOLVING MY OTHER VEHICLES IN THE PAST MADE BY GMC NAMELY A SECOND FAMILY GMC SIERRA THAT WAS MADE IN THE YEAR 2004, AND A CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE ELECTRICAL LIGHTING ON THE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING FOR A LONG TIME. I NOTICED THE MALFUNCTION DURING THE FIRST YEAR I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ELECTRICAL SWITCH IN THE AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE WIRING IS HEATING UP AND CAUSING THE SHORT TO THE SWITCH. THE NEW SWITCH HAS SHORTED OUT JUST LIKE HE SAID IT WOULD. I HAVE A NOTIFICATION THAT MY AIRBAG NEEDS SERVICING. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED TO CAUSE THIS ISSUE. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE PRIMARY DRIVER SINCE 2006 WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. *TR
I WAKE UP EARLY ON SUNDAY, ON 11/16/15 AND TOOK A COMPANY TRUCK A 2006 GMC SIERRA 1500, TO BRING SOME CARGO. ON MY WAY BACK HOME ON 836 WEST EXPRESSWAY, I TOOK MY EXIT AND WHEN PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO REDUCE SPEED, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR AND THE BRAKE ACTION WAS MINIMUM TO NOTHING. ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS STOP AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT, AND TO AVOID THE OBVIOUS IMPACT TO THE STOPPED CAR, I PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES AND APPLIED THE PARKING BRAKES AT APPROX. 30 MPH. SEEING NO WAY TO AVOID THE COLLISION, I PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HIT A CONCRETE WATER DRAIN, RESULTING IN ABRUPTLY SOPPING OF MY CAR AND MY KNEE HIT THE LOWER DASHBOARD. THE GUY OF THE OTHER CAR WENT OUT AND ASK ME, ARE YOU "DRUNK" "ARE YOU OK" I CALLED A FLATBED AND BRING MY TRUCK TO MY WORK PLACE AND THEN NOTICE THAT A BRAKE LINE WAS BROKE AND MOST OF THE BRAKE FLUID SPILLED ALL OVER THE FRONT OF THE CHASSIS, UNDER THE RADIATOR. THE BRAKE LINE WAS INCREDIBLE RUSTED, REASON FOR THE BRAKE DOWN, I HAD CARS WITH A LOT MORE YEARS WITH NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKE LINES. WHEN I INSPECT THE OTHER BRAKE LINES DEEPLY, NOTICED THAT AN EXCESSIVE CORROSION WAS IN ALL OF THEM. GMC SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, SAFETY ISSUE, IS NO REASON FOR A 2006, ONLY 8 YEARS VEHICLE, PRESENT THAT LEVEL OF CORROSION ON BRAKE LINES. "COKE CAN THICKNESS APPARENTLY" . SOMEBODY WILL DIE OR SERIOUSLY INJURE, OR WILL KILL SOMEBODY, PEDESTRIAN OR DRIVER BECAUSE THE SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE IN A CASE LIKE THIS. I WILL BRING THE VEHICLE TO A GARAGE TO REPLACE THE BROKEN LINE AND PROBABLY ALL OF THEM.. ITS RIDICULOUS, AND VERY DANGEROUS THAT THIS THINGS HAPPENS IN A VEHICLE THAT AGE. I REALLY APPRECIATE TO BRING THIS CASE TO THE PROPER ATTENTION OF THE MANUFACTURER IN ORDER TO AVOID MORE INCIDENTS LIKE MINE.I CONSIDER MYSELF VERY LUCKY,.COULD NOT BE WRITING THIS IF THIS HAPPENS TO ME AT A HIGH SPEED. BRAKES FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKING. ON INVESTIGATION, BRAKE OIL WOULD SPRAY FROM THE BRAKE LINE UNDER THE TRUCK. *TR
BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION WHICH WAS NOT VISIBLE DURING SAFETY INSPECTIONS. AFTER APPLYING BRAKES TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, BRAKE LINE BROKE, CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKES AND LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. I HAD TO USE THE TRANSMISSION AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK. SEVERAL LOCAL MECHANICS COMMENTED THAT THEY ARE SEEING AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF THIS TYPE OF FAILURE ON SIMILAR MODEL YEARS. WITH NO FAILOVER SYSTEM TO STOP THE TRUCK, THIS SHOULD BE LISTED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
APPROACHING RED LIGHT SIGNAL APPLIED BRAKES. DRIVER REAR BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO RUST THROUGH. WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP VEHICLE AS MY SPEED WAS ONLY ABOUT 20 MPH. IF THIS WERE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. FYI THERE IS ALSO EXTENSIVE FRAME AND BODY SURFACE RUST THAT THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO HELP WITH. THIS VEHICLE IS MOSTLY PARKED OUTSIDE IN THE MID ATLANTIC REGIONS. GETS VERY LITTLE USE SO LOW MILEAGE. THE RUST IS FROM A MANUFACTURING ISSUE NOT AN ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE .
I WENT OUT TO MY TRUCK IN THE MORNING AND MY DASH BOARD INDICATOR TOLD ME TO GET MY BRAKES CHECKED; EVERYTHING WAS FINE THE NIGHT BEFORE. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO MYMECHANIC AND FOUND OUT THAT MY BRAKE LINE IS CORRODED AND BROKEN. ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THIS A RECURRING AND CONSISTENT PROBLEM WITH THE GMC SIERRAS. I HAVE MY TRUCK SERVICED BY AN AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER ON A REGULAR BASIS AND THIS HAS NEVER BEEN MENTIONED TO ME. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ITEM! SERIOUS SAFETY THREAT. CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THIS OCCURRED 2 DAYS LATER WHEN I WAS PULLING OUR 40 FOOT RV. SHOULDN'T GM BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS? MY TRUCK IS NOW IN THE SHOP GETTING THE BRAKE LINE REPLACED. *TR

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE FOR NO REASON AT SLOW SPEEDS *TR
YOU CAN TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING. TO START ENGINE YOU NEED TO 'WIGGLE' THE KEY OR TAKE IT OUT AND RE-INSERT ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME. PLEASE NOTE; BECAUSE OF THE PAST "WE DON'T CARE" ATTITUDE OF GM ON OTHER COMPLAINTS- I PERSONALLY DON'T WANT THEM TO CONTACT ME- I'M JUST LETTING YOU KNOW OF THIS IN CASE OF OTHERS THAT HAVE PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. BRAKES FAILED WHILE COMING TO A STOP IN LIGHT TRAFFIC. BRAKING ACTION REDUCED TO APPROX 10 TO 20 PERCENT OF NORMAL. DRIVER FELT A "POP" AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, FOLLOWED BY A 'SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM' WARNING MESSAGE. A LARGE PUDDLE OF FLUID FORMED UNDER THE TRUCK WHEN PARKED AND A QUICK LOOK UNDER THE TRUCK SHOWED LOTS OF FLUID FROM THE FRONT OF THE BED TO THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED HEAVY CORROSION ON ALL RIGID BRAKE LINES. ALL BRAKES LINES WILL BE REPLACED. THE FAILED LINE POWERED THE REAR BRAKES. THIS TRUCK IS ONLY EIGHT (8) YEARS OLD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN LOTS WORSE IF THE BRAKES FAILED ONE WEEK EARLIER WHEN I WAS PULLING A CAMPER THROUGH THE TENNESSEE MOUNTAINS. *TR
JUST DID A 4 WHEELBRAKEJOB;PADS AND ROTORS FOR THEFRONT, SHOES FOR THE REAR! HAD TO REPLACE ONE REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER. STARTED TO BLEED SYSTEM, REAR BRAKELINE BURST, WAS RUSTED REAL BAD, REPLACED THE AFFECTED LINE THEN FRONT LINE BURST AND THAT WAS RUSTED REAL BAD ALSO. IN CHECKING THINGS OVER DISCOVERED THEY ARE ALL VERY RUSTY, AFRAID IF I DON'T REPLACE THEM ALL WILL HAVE TO SHORTLY BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL IN SAME CONDITION. NOTE;HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION LINES LAST YEAR DUE TO CORROSION AND RUST!!!! *TR
I WENT TO PUT ON MY BRAKES, I FIRST STARTED TO STOP THEN MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I HIT A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE COLLISION SHOP THAT I HAD IT REPAIRED AT SAID THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I READ A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME DEFECT IN CHEVY AND GMC TRUCKS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND A FLUID DRIPPING ONTO THE FLOOR OF THE TRUCK. THEN THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES. PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO A PARKING LOT AND COASTED IN NEUTRAL TIL IT STOPPED ON A PARKING CURB. THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND RUPTURED, AND THE FLUID WAS SPRAYING INTO A HOLE IN THE FIREWALL AND INTO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS THE THIRD BRAKE LINE THAT HAS RUPTURED IN SUCH A MANNER. NO WARNING AT ALL, AND THEN SUDDEN LOSS OF BRAKING. THE WARNING LIGHT DID NOT COME ON UNTIL THE TRUCK HAD BEEN SITTING FOR OVER AN HOUR WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR A TOW, AND A LARGE AMOUNT OF FLUID HAD LEAKED OUT. I'M JUST GLAD THIS HAD HAPPENED AT A LOW SPEED AND NOT ON AN EXIT RAMP FROM THE FREEWAY. THE RUPTURES ARE OCCURRING WHERE THE LINES RUN FLAT ACROSS A SUPPORT. THIS IS A POOR DESIGN. *TR
I BROUGHT MY 2006 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD IN FOR A BRAKE SERVICE AS NORMAL. TECHNICIAN INSTALLED BRAKES AND ROTORS AND TOOK TRUCK FOR A TEST RIDE. AS TECHNICIAN WAS BRINGING TRUCK BACK FROM THE TEST RIDE, BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AND SPLIT! THIS WAS THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LINE LOCATED UNDER A PLATE. TECHNICIAN SAID HE NEARLY CRASHED THE TRUCK INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND CURB TO STOP THE TRUCK! WITH ALL THE TRUCKS OUT THERE, GM'S TRUCKS SEEM TO HAVE THE HIGHEST BRAKE LINE FAILURE. I AM WRITING TO YOU TO INFORM YOU OF THE PROBLEM THAT COULD ENDANGER THE LIVES OF ANYONE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS THE PEOPLE AROUND IT! MY HOPE IS THAT GM SEES THERE IS A PROBLEM AND CORRECTS IT BEFORE ANY FATALITIES ARISE FROM BRAKE FAILURE! *TR
I WAS APPROACHING THE STOPLIGHT FLETCHER DRIVE AND LEE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH HEADING EAST ON LEE HIGHWAY AROUND 1600 EDT IN WARRENTON, VA. THERE WERE FOUR (4) CARS WAITING TO TURN LEFT ONTO FLETCHER DRIVE IN FRONT OF ME. THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. I APPLIED THE BRAKE WITH APPROXIMATELY 2 CAR LENGTHS IN FRONT OF ME. THE BRAKES STARTED TO GRAB BUT THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD. I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND MY TRUCK CONTINUED TO ROLL AND THEN HIT MR. [XXX] VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 5-7 MPH. I WAS UNABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP UNTIL MAKING CONTACT WITH [XXX] CAR. I ASKED IF HE WAS OK OR HURT AND HE REPLIED YES, I AM OK. WHY DIDN'T YOU STOP?? I EXPLAINED THAT I TRIED. I THEN SUGGESTED THAT BOTH OF US PULL INTO THE FAUQUIER BANK PARKING LOT AND EXCHANGE INSURANCE INFORMATION. AT THIS TIME, I NOTICED MY BRAKES HAD COMPLETELY FAILED AND THE TRUCK WAS LEAKING A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID ONTO THE PARKING LOT (COFFEE CAN OR MORE IN 10 MINS). I STATED THAT SINCE IT WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE ON MY VEHICLE, I WOULD FEEL BETTER SUBMITTING IT THROUGH INSURANCE. I ALSO SHOWED HIM THE LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. [XXX]. ASKED WHY I WAS DRIVING WITH FAILED BRAKES AND I EXPLAINED THAT THE BRAKES HAD FAILED AT THE INTERSECTION, THAT MY BRAKES WERE WORKING PROPERLY PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT AND THAT MY TRUCK HAD JUST BEEN PICKED-UP FROM SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP (COUNTRY CHEVROLET) ON MONDAY WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP JUST INFORMED ME THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THEY HAVE CORRODED THROUGH AND BASICALLY "EXPLODED". A SIMILAR ISSUE OCCURRED WITH MY 2003 GMC SIERRA IN 2009, BUT WITH NO ACCIDENT. ALL BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. GRINDING NOISE AND BRAKING DIMINISHED ALONG WITH SMOKING WHEEL. FRONT WHEEL BEARING HUB ASSEMBLY IS COMING APART INSIDE WITH ONLY 36000 MILES. *JS
MY 2006 GMC SIERRA 1500 4X4 CREWCAB WAS RUNNING IDLE AS I WAS PREPARING TO LEAVE FOR CAMPING TRIP. I WAS CHECKING TO INSURE ALL LIGHTS ON VEHICLE AND TRAILER WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY BEFORE DEPARTING. I NOTICED UPON DEPARTURE THAT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM INSIDE THE STEERING COLUMN. I TURNED OFF RUNNING LIGHTS AND WHEN I TRIED TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE I FOUND THAT I COULD NOT AS THE KEY WAS FROZE/STUCK IN THE ON/RUN POSITION. THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE WAS FILLING WITH SMOKE AND I COULD NOT TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. I QUICKLY DROVE TO THE NEAREST GM DEALERSHIP WHO WAS UNABLE TO HELP DUE TO A HEAVY BACKLOG. I WAS ABLE TO FIND A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PROMPTLY ASSESSED AND SERVICED MY TRUCK. THE MECHANIC ALERTED ME THAT WHILE THIS TRUCK IS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST, THE PART HE REPLACED (THE IGNITION SWITCH) IS THE PURPOSE BEHIND THE ENTIRE RECALL AND THAT THE PART HAD FAILED EXACTLY HOW THE RECALLED ASSEMBLIES WERE LISTED AS FAILING. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS TRUCK HAS NOT BEEN LOOKED INTO FURTHER FOR THIS RECALL BUT HAD I BEEN FURTHER INTO MY TRIP AND NOT HAD A MECHANIC CLOSE BY TO GET THE TRUCK TO, THE END RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN FAR MORE DAMAGING THEN A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS... *TR

WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A QUICK STOP BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND HAD NO BRAKING POWER. AVOIDED CRASH BY DRIVING ONTO A LAWN. I HAVE FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WHERE THEY ARE ATTACHED TO THE FRAME IN A PLASTIC SUPPORT UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR HAVE ROTTED THROUGH. THERE IS NO WARNING THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND YOU DON'T STOP. I HAD A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER HOOKED TO MY 2006 GMC 2500 EXT. CAB LONG BED SIERRA P/U WITH 62,459 MILES ON IT. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT WITH THE TRAILER BRAKES AND A SCRATCH ON MY FRONT BUMPER FROM A TRACTOR TRAILER THAT WAS IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE OWNED OVER 200 CARS + TRUCKS SINCE I STARTED DRIVING. I DO ALL MY ONE WORK ON THEM AND I NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE FAIL, I WILL BE 70 THIS YEAR. IT IS RIDICULOUS FOR AN 8 YEAR OLD TRUCK TO HAVE RUSTED BRAKE LINES TO FAIL. THE WORST PART OF THIS IS THAT NOBODY NOTIFIED THE PUBLIC THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WHEN THEY GMC KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I FOUND A GARAGE THAT FIXED THE TWO FRONT LINES. SO WE COULD GET HOME. THEN I INSPECTED THE OTHER LINES AND ORDERED THE COMPLETE SET OF STAINLESS STEEL LINES FROM EBAY, WHEN I REMOVED THE OLD LINES THEY ALL WERE RUSTED AT HIDDEN SPOTS TWO WERE CLOSE TO FAILING. WHY DO THEY HAVE TO WAIT FOR SOME ONE TO DIE BEFORE THEY NOTIFY THE PUBLIC THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM. THIS IS GMC AND OUR GOVERNMENT (NHTSA) FAILING THE PEOPLE. *TR
WE WERE IN A STORAGE FACILITY PARKING OUR CAMPER WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY GMC TRUCK...I LEFT IT RUNNING IN PARK BECAUSE IT WAS SO HOT OUTSIDE...WHILE I DIRECTED MY BROTHER TO PUT THE CAMPER IN PLACE WITH HIS VEHICLE. THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF. TOOK IT TO DEALER TO HAVE TESTED. TROUBLE CODE P0084, DRIVER SEAT POSITION SENSOR. DIAGNOSTIC SHOWED FAULT IS IN AIRBAG SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE, SHOWED FALSE HIGH RESISTANCE READING. SENSOR KIT AND MODULE NEEDED REPLACED, ALMOST $600 JUST FOR PARTS. TOOK 2 TIMES AT THE DEALER TO GET THIS FIXED AS FIRST REPLACEMENT PARTS DID NOT WORK. NO COVERAGE BY GMC FOR FAILURE OF SWITCH FOR AIRBAG. TRUCK NEVER IN ANY TYPE ACCIDENT SO AIRBAG WAS NEVER USED. SURPRISED THAT THERE WAS NO ASSISTANCE FROM GMC CONCERNING THIS SAFETY ISSUE AS WORKING AIRBAGS ARE REQUIRED. *TR
SINCE ROUGHLY JUNE OF 2014 COMPLETE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IT IS THE BRAKE LINES ABS AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. BRAKE LINE RUPTURED DUE TO CORROSION. I WAS LEAVING A HESS STATION IN MASSACHUSETTS AFTER FILLING UP AND WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE BEFORE PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC THE PEDAL DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I IMMEDIATELY ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PUT THE TRUCK INTO REVERSE TO PARK THE VEHICLE AND INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. I FOUND A LARGE BRAKE FLUID LEAK UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE BASE OF THE STEERING COLUMN WHERE THE HARD BRAKE LINE CLIPS TO THE TRUCK FRAME. THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINE. ALL FOUR (4) BRAKE LINES ARE CURRENTLY BEING REPLACED AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FOR A COST OF ~$2400. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING WHEN BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE STEERING WHEEL IS TORN APART. THE HANDLE ON THE DASH BOARD, PASSENGER SIDE, IS BENT AND THE VENT ON PASSENGER SIDE IS CRACKED. *TR
I HAD TOWED MY BOAT ON THE INTERSTATE FOR 2 HOURS TO A LAKE. UPON REACHING THE DESTINATION I WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAUNCH THE BOAT AT THE BOAT RAMP. WHILE I WAS BACKING MY BOAT TRAILER INTO THE WATER I WAS USING THE BRAKES TO EASE DOWN THE RAMP. TWO FAMILY MEMBERS WERE IN THE BOAT TO BACK IT OFF THE TRAILER ONCE IN THE WATER. THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, I STEPPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE TRUCK FROM ROLLING INTO THE WATER. I GOT OUT AND SAW A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE JUST BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL AREA. I GOT IN THE TRUCK TO SEE IF THE BRAKES COULD BE APPLIED AGAIN BUT WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. IN ORDER TO GET THE TRUCK, TRAILER AND BOAT OFF THE RAMP I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN DRIVE, QUICKLY RELEASE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND APPLY THE GAS TO PREVENT TRUCK FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS. UPON LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD I FOUND THE BRAKE LINE WAS RUSTED IN A CLIP AND HAD RUPTURED WHERE THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BRAKE LINE WAS RETAINED IN A CLIP ON THE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME JUST NEXT TO THE STEERING COLUMN. SINCE IT WAS EARLY ENOUGH I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO GET THE RUPTURED LINE REPLACED. ON 5/29/2014 WHILE MOVING THE TRUCK IN THE DRIVEWAY THE BRAKE LINE FOR THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HAS NOW RUPTURED, UPON INSPECTION THE RUPTURE IS IN THE EXACT SAME LOCATION WHERE THE BRAKE LINE IS RETAINED IN THE CLIP ATTACHED TO THE FRAME ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE NEXT TO THE STEERING COLUMN. AT THIS POINT I CAN ONLY ASSUME I WILL NEED TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES ON THE VEHICLE. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE OR HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY STOP DURING THE INITIAL INCIDENT I WOULD HAVE LIKELY HIT SOMEONE, LOST MY BOAT AND INJURED OR KILLED MYSELF OR FAMILY MEMBERS. BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT RUST LIKE THIS IN FL AND THE LOSS OF ONE BRAKE LINE SHOULD NOT ELIMINATE YOUR ENTIRE BRAKING SYSTEM TO ALL FOUR WHEELS. *TR

ARRIVING AT MY RV SITE IN ALABAMA FROM UPPER MICHIGAN A NEIGHBOR SAW SOMETHING LEAKING FROM NEAR THE LEFT FRONT TIRE OF MY PICKUP. IN LATE OCTOBER, 2013, I PURCHASED MY 2006 GMC SIERRA C1500 STANDARD CAB, 2WD PICKUP FROM A PRIVATE OWNER. ON OR ABOUT, DECEMBER 01, 2013, I NOTICED THAT THE "SERVICE AIR BAG" WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED INTERMITTENTLY. THE "AIRBAG" ILLUMINATED SYMBOL IN THE DASH INSTRUMENTATION AREA WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED. THIS WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON AND GO OFF DURING NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. I SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL GMC/CHEVROLET DEALER FOR SERVICE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY CHARGED ME TO FIX THE ISSUE AND IT DID NOT APPEAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK AFTER THEIR REPAIR. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER, AS THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY REPAIR PREVIOUS ISSUES ON OTHER VEHICLES THAT I HAVE HAD SERVICED THERE. THE "SERVICE AIR BAG" MESSAGE HAS BEEN ON CONSTANTLY SINCE ABOUT FEBRUARY, 2014, AS WELL AS THE ILLUMINATED ICON IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WITH THEIR ABILITY TO REMEDY THE SITUATION AND MAY HAVE TO SEEK THIRD PARTY REPAIR FOR THIS ISSUE. GENERAL MOTORS SEEMS TO HAVE NO WEB SITE TO ASSIST OWNERS AND I MUST NOW GLEAN KNOWLEDGE FROM THE INTERNET IN AN ATTEMPT TO REMEDY THE ISSUE.
