NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 GMC Terrain. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Hard as rock brakes Long response time Mechanic friend says it’s break booster.
The contact's husband owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the vehicle shut off with the message "Press Brake Pedal to Start" displayed on the instrument panel. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle several times and added fuel to the fuel tank jug; however, the vehicle failed to restart. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a defective fuel pump module. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Fuel pump module failure, there’s a recall on this part for this year model but not my vin #
With no warning signs, vehicle abruptly stalled while driving. I attempted to restart multiple times. Finally restarted and drove another 100ft and stalled again now with a check engine light. Made it to local shop and code P129F was found for fuel pump module. I see there is a recall on this but not for my particular vin. Recommend expanding recalls.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered and then lost motive power. The message "Restart Vehicle" was displayed, but the vehicle failed to restart. The contact was able to push the vehicle into the driveway. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic, who determined that the fuel pump module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was unknown.
SUVs check engine light turned on and went into reduced power mode, it has been very cold for approximately a month. Code P0299.
The car went into limp mode while I was on the highway. The car said reducing engine power and then I couldn't go the speed limit I had to drive well under the speed limit and pull off the road as soon as possible. I brought it home and water came pouring out the intercooler after looking online. I found out this is a known issue for this vehicle.
When driving vehicle, alert sounded lowered speed detection and my engine light came on. My vehicle then lagged power and it smelled like something was burning. Called dealer i bought vehicle from and i drove it in to them. I just bought the vehicle 8 months ago. I was just in to same dealer for a GPS tracker that was in my vehicle unknown to me that the Onstar stopped working and the dealer had stating they missed it in the pre certified inspection and they had to replace the telemax module do to the unknown GPS Tracker. My vehicle is now in for the lowered speed detection problem which my GM app stated it was an air induction system problem. I do not have paper work for the air induction system yet but i have sent photo of what my GM app produced.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the residence. In addition, the contact stated that the failure occurred while the contact was driving on the highway. The contact stated that an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the vehicle with a failed fuel pump. The contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. In addition, the contact referenced an unknown recall that had a similar failure description; however, the VIN was not associated with the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,126.
An AC clutch/compressor malfunction. No cold air, unusual noises (grinding, squealing, rattling), metal shavings, burning rubber smell, engine stalling. No warning lamps or messages ever appeared. The problem was serviced at independent service center. The nearest GM dealer is more than 40 miles away from me. Did not drive vehicle and seeked professional help immediately.
The car was at a red light so it automatically stopped. when the lights turned green, I removed my foot from the break and the car would not move. I had to call OnStar for roadside assistance and they called the police to make sure I was safe and that traffic flowed safely. My car was towed to the dealership after they tried to start the car by the key and my jumper cables. The car would not start. The dealership is unable to start the car as well and they are saying that the issue with the fuel pump is not under the most recent recall for my VIN number. I was able to locate the recall for the same exact issue that I’m having under my VIN number on the GMC website. I have filed a report with the GMC manufacturer to try and get this issue fixed. I have brought this car in multiple times to the dealership I purchased from and an additional dealership to show them the issues that I have been having with this car starting and stopping, I could have been ran over by a public transportation bus today.
Screen went black on 3 different occasions, since purchasing vehicle
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving approximately 5-10 MPH, the vehicle stopped independently, and the gear shifter failed to shift to neutral(N). A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it diagnosed and determined that the fuel pump power control module needed to be replaced. The fuel pump power control module was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,777.
Front drivers side wheel makes a clicking/popping noise when turning to the right.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle stalled, and the contact was unable to pull over to the side of the road. The contact stated that the message "Battery Critically Low" was initially displayed, and then the message "Engine and Transmission System - Schedule Service Now" was displayed. The contact was assisted by Police Officers in redirecting traffic away from the vehicle to prevent a crash. The contact stated that the tow truck driver inspected the battery and informed the contact that the battery was in good condition. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift to neutral(N), which required a special tow truck to tow the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the residence and was then towed to the dealer the same day. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,200.
My wife was driving down the road and all of a sudden the car just shut off and wouldn’t start back up. She called me and I went to her and tried to get the started with no progress so I called a tow truck to come pick it up and come to the mechanic shop to have it fixed. They run a diagnostic test on it and it was the fuel module. Called the gmc in my town and the said it was not covered under warranty or there wasn’t a recall on it either. W needed my car fixed so I called around to find a fuel module and finally found one in north Myrtle Beach. I had to go and pick it up around 75 miles from where I live and bought it back to the mechanic. He put in on and that fixed the problem. A lot of the 22 Terrian’s has a recall but mine doesn’t. I would like to know why mine doesn’t and it only has 53,000 miles and mine falls in the same category as all the others. I think I should be reimbursed having to pay to have mine repaired.
My GMC Terrain started, but then stalled as I tried to pull away from the curb & drive. When I tried to restart it, it turned over but would not start. My AAA Autoclub servicemember used his "check engine" interface machine to determine that the fuel pump module was not communicating with the car, though there was half a tank of gas. This issue has been a well published problem with this year, make & model online, but GMC is not including my VIN# in the recall. I had the car towed to my mechanic & his diagnostic tests revealed the same problem - fuel system module. I would have been in danger if there had been any traffic on my residential street. If the car had driven a few blocks & then stalled, I would have been on a busy boulevard. There were no warning signs prior to the stall. There is a "check engine" icon lit up now because it is going to require service. My mechanic can't fix it, so I need to arrange another tow to get it to a dealership service department. Thank you
I HAVE THIS 2022 GMC TERRAIN WITH 19,000. MILES ON IT. IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 MONTHS AND NOT YEARS OR MILES. ON 6-23-23 THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO NAPELTON GMC FOR A RECALLED FUEL PUMP FLOW MODULE. IT WAS FIXED AND THE RECALL WAS CLOSED. HOW EVER NOW 9-2-2025 WITH 19,000 MILES I AM EXPERICING THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEAL AND DIAGNOSED WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS TIME THEY ARE NOT COVERING IT BECAUSE THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED. HOWEVER I FEEL THAT WITH ONLY GOING 13,000 MILES SINCE REPAIRED THEY SHOULD BE COVERING IT AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME THE REPAIR COST IS "TO LITTLE" TO OFFER ANYTHING. THE COST WITH THE TOW IS AROUND $762.00 . i WAS TOLD BY GM "NOT THE DEALSHIP" THAT IF I SUBMIT A TICKET SHOWING THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THEY COULD LOOK AT OTHER COMPNESATION OPTIONS. PLEASE HELP. I ONLY AM ARGUING BECUASE THIS WAS A RECALLED ITEM THAT HASNT LASTED VERY LONG.
I went to start my vehicle up my two days ago (8-25-25) It made a horrible sound and just shut off. The lights on the dashboard would not go out when I turn it off. I also couldn't put in gear. It had to be towed using a dollie to the repair shop. I was told that the module fuel pump power control had to be replaced. The shop owner then went on to tell me that this very same brand (GMC), has been entering his shop at a shockingly alarming rate with this same problem. I'm not very pleased with having to have this repair done as my vehicle is no longer under warranty. It cost me $432.18. I'm not rich and am living in a time as many others are that don't have a bunch a money laying around to throw away. I find this very distressing as well as unfair to my family and I to have to have this replaced on a relatively newer vehicle. If you are aware of this problem, it out to be addressed. I as well as others should have been made aware as well. At the least, I think that I am entitled to a refund for the cost of the repairs.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that upon approaching an intersection with a red light, the contact depressed the brake pedal, and the vehicle lost automotive power. The vehicle came to a stop at the light. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be inspected, and the contact was advised that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed by an authorized GMC Dealer. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was advised that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.
I was driving down a paved road and my side airbags deployed. The gm investigation showed my car left the road way, however I am uncertain of that. There was no crash or impact or damage to the vehicle from this incident other than the airbags deploying. There is a scrape on the passenger side due to an incident in April. That is not related to this incident.
Own 2022 terrain that suddenly stalled one morning after starting vehicle with remote access before getting on highway. Vehicle cut off after 5 minutes and wouldn’t restart. Battery very strong but check engine light came on. Vehicle was towed to dealership and advise it was the fuel pump control module. No warning lights or proper failures for my vehicle.
Vehicle felt like it was running out of gas and then stalled out while driving down the road. It will not turn over and it will not move out of park. This is a huge safety issue.
Three times in one month, four months after purchasing vehicle from dealership, the vehicle stalls while driving and will not restart. After running codes, each instance prompted a P129F code for the fuel pump driver control module. After the second incident, the vehicle was inspected by a qualified repair shop and no issue or stored codes were found. When the issues occur and the car stalls, the Check Engine Light and a Low Battery warning message can be seen on the instrument panel. When this issue occurs, the vehicle's gears cannot be shifted manually. The vehicle must be force shifted by hand, via transmission components under the hood, in order to place the car into neutral.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the service message was displayed, and the audible turn signal became inoperable, along with the collision warning and the On-Star feature. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 22,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the engine seized. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to another independent mechanic, where the failure was confirmed to be engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was also confirmed as having engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated the failure occurred while driving on a busy highway. The contact called the Emergency Services, who arrived on the scene and assisted with moving the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The contact stated that the situation was very frightening. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with fuel pump module failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 18,886.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving in a parking lot, and the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The vehicle failed to immediately restart but restarted after waiting for 10 minutes. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The contact retrieved DTC: P129F while using a handheld scanner. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,670.
The backup camera on my vehicle stopped working completely, displaying a blank screen. All other cameras and sensors continue to function normally. The dealership identified the issue as the camera having “shorted out” and is replacing it with a completely new unit. The faulty camera is currently with the dealership, and I assume it would be available for inspection upon request. It is being replaced and I will receive a bill in a few days (Wednesday March 10, 2025). The backup camera is a critical safety feature designed to prevent collisions with pedestrians, objects, and other vehicles when reversing. Without a functioning camera, visibility is significantly reduced, increasing the risk of an accident, especially in crowded parking lots or areas with low visibility. The sudden and unexplained failure of this system is a serious safety concern. Yes, the dealership confirmed the issue when I brought my vehicle in for inspection. They determined that the camera had “shorted out” and ordered a full replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, which is handling the replacement. To my knowledge, no manufacturer representatives, police, or insurance agents have examined the issue. There were no warning lights, error messages, or other indications before the failure. The backup camera was functioning normally, then suddenly stopped working, displaying a blank screen. I have heard that Cadillac and GMC Acadia models have experienced similar backup camera issues, leading to recalls due to sudden failures. Given that my vehicle’s camera “shorted out” without warning, I believe this may be part of a broader issue affecting GM vehicles. If this is a recurring problem, it poses a serious safety risk and should be investigated further.
OnStar module failure Its backordered across the entire country, its only reasonable to assume it's a problem. Online information I've seen is it's an issue with a lot of vehicles
Driving 75-80mph in the freeway when suddenly the power stopped in the middle of the road and couldn’t get it to run. Thankfully freeway exit was near was able to get the vehicle to safety. Tried to turn in on again and would turn on but die down after. Had to tow the vehicle and take it to the dealership the next day. Said it was fuel pump module defect and there’s nothing I could have done to cause it. Vehicle is less than 3 years old with good maintenance
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, there was while smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with oil intrusion into the pistons, causing transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The dealer changed the oil and advised the contact to return every two thousand miles. On a separate occasion, the contact stated that while her husband was driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated and jerked. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had progressively worsened. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,686.
This is the second time this occurred, once in Oct 2024 and on 1/25/25. While driving the check engine light came on and within one minute the vehicle began to stall and within 20 second the engine shut off. The first time it happened in the middle of the road and the second time I was just able to turn onto a side street. In both cases the vehicle would not restart and left me stranded.
Module malfunction open-fuel pump driver control. Engine stops at any time, pressing gas pedal and nothing, the engine stops running no warning. Module has been replaced twice this vehicle should be on recall. When it happens you have no warning and no control. This is life threatening.
Engine failure at low mileage. 60,300 miles. Piston 1 failed. Broken rings. Needs full engine replacement. GM will not stand by their product and repair it.
Fuel indicator is reporting empty when car is full, and car is switching gears or shutting off by itself in the middle of driving.
My GMC Terrain 2022 has stopped working 3 times for the same issue. All those times the car was tow to the dealership to get repairs. Every time that happened was the same problem, I turn on the car and immediately shuts down. It didn’t show a warning light.
My check engine light came on and I got it hooked up to get the code of P0171 - Upon checking it was different things like O2 sensor the Mass Airflow sensor, fuel pump issue etc. I have been having issues with slight hesitation during acceleration, some jerking when slowing down (not hitting the brakes). Now the check engine light was on for one day the next day it was off. I did some research and found an article that stated that GM is issuing a safety recall for 2021 and 2022 GMC terrain due to a problem with the fuel pump module failing, not enough fuel to the engine and creating stalling risk. This was from January of 2023. It also said GM notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the upcoming recall on Jan 19th 2023 and was still pending as of Feb 2023. Also stated that GM has not yet conducted actual repairs to correct the issue. My truck, I bought it brand new on Jan 20th 2022, only 23,450 miles on it. The problem literally came out of no where a week ago. The hesitation, not being able to accelerate is very dangerous when I'm on the road, I could not get the check engine light checked out professionally because the next day it was off and I was informed that they could not do a proper diagnostic if there is no light on. Obviously there is an issue with the fuel system and I really want this checked out and possibly replaced. Not to mention my gas is also going very fast now.
Fuel pump power control module failure. Part number 13554821. On [XXX], my trip home from South Carolina to Alabama was interrupted when I stopped to get something to eat. The car would not start and I had to call AAA to tow me to Superior GMC dealership in Anniston, Al. They knew what was wrong as soon as I told them it would not start. They already replaced three fuel pump control modules that day on the same model as mine. The service department said it was a persistent problem in GMC automobile's. I am [XXX] who had confidence enough in your automobile to take a trip by myself. I could have gotten stranded far away from home. I believe that this should be a recall because this is an ongoing issue with this model. I am sure that GMC is aware of this problem. The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that while pulling into a parking lot, the fuel light illuminated. While driving, the vehicle shut off and failed to restart. The fuel indicator indicated that there were 34 miles to empty. The contact called Roadside Assistance, who added additional fuel. The fuel indicator showed 64 miles to empty; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
While driving at approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled and would not accelerate. I was able to pull over onto the shoulder and turn the vehicle off. The engine would not turn over and the brake pedal locked into position, rendering the vehicle immobile. The check engine light also came on at this point. The vehicle was towed and ultimately repaired at the local GMC dealership, where the fuel pump was replaced. The 2022 GMC Terrain already has a recall in place due to the fuel pump module not providing sufficient fuel to the engine, resulting in an engine stall (23V013000), the effects of which sound very similar to what occurred. However, this vehicle’s VIN was not included in the recall. We are very lucky that this failure did not result in a crash, and that no further incident occurred while we were stranded on the side of the highway during the night, waiting for a tow.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving at approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The dealer replaced the fuel pump module. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving on the highway, and the vehicle was towed to another dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel pump module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 4,800.
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving at approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle was losing forward momentum. The contact stated that she depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle was still losing forward momentum. The contact stated that she was also smelling the odor of gasoline in the passenger cabin. No warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure since no codes were in the system due to no warning lights. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a reoccurring failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), however her VIN was not part of the recall selection. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
2nd incident, 1st incident reported: Complaint number 11570916. Was driving the vehicle and the steering wheel locked again as I was making a right turn. The service ESC light immediately came on with the T/C light on the dashboard as well. I had roadside assistance pick up the vehicle to take it to the service department because I was afraid to drive the vehicle. According to the service invoice, they were not able to replicate the problem, but I have a photo of the error code on the dashboard. I was told that they checked the brake module and reprogrammed the computers.
I had an issue with the All Wheel Drive system. The message Service all wheel drive system appeared as I was driving the vehicle. They found a rear differential module software issue 2810695. They found DTC C056D stored in rear diff control module. They programmed rear diff module and retested. Claim code is 1BYN199108119. I do not have any parts but I was told that they send warranty components back to the manufacturer for inspection.
While driving my 2022 1.5L Turbo GMC Terrain at 65 mph with the air temperature at -2 degrees below zero Fahrenheit the check engine light came on with the error message "Engine Power is reduced." I coasted to the side of the road and put the car into park. I was 200 miles from home and after working with my insurance roadside assistance, I wasn't able to get a tow truck after 3 hours of waiting in sub zero temperatures. I called the local GM dealership in my home town to ask if I could drive the SUV and they said I could at less than 35mph. I drove 100 miles to a town where a tow truck was available. I brought the SUV to the GM dealership and they said the issue is ice and condensation in the inner cooler CAC system. They said my SUV wasn't updated for the cold weather package. I was told my engine needed a cold weather package in order to drive it in sub zero temperatures. After reviewing this issue online, I found there was a recall for 2018-2022 1.5L Turbo GMC Terrain vehicles that experience these issues but my VIN number wasn't included in the recall. I called GMC to report the issue with my SUV and after speaking with multiple people was told that it wouldn't be covered under the recall due to the "numerous factors" that determine what VIN numbers fall into a recall. My SUV has the same engine, is the correct year, and has the same engine problem as the GMC Terrains that were included in the recall. I now have to pay out of pocket for repairs and the engine fix of installing a cold weather package that is covered under the recall. I believe the recall needs to be expanded to additional VIN numbers.
I was driving the vehicle, approaching an intersection and making a right turn. As I turned the steering wheel, it locked. I kept trying to turn the steering wheel and it finally did. A Service ESC error appeared on the dashboard. The T/C light came on as well. I drove it home. The error was gone the next time I started the vehicle. The service code kept coming on intermittently. Appointment scheduled on 11/10/23. GMC service dept stated they wouldn't be checking the vehicle until next Monday, so I could take it home. I rescheduled and took it back on 11/13/23. My vehicle was there for 32 days. My safety was at risk because of the failure of the steering wheel to turn, with traffic in the lane next to me as I was turning. The service dept was able to download the error codes.Code C0800 was captured. The steering gear assembly was removed and replaced, programmed and calibrated.
WE DID THE RECALL FOR THE FUEL MODULE. NOW THE FUEL GUAGE GOES TO EMPTY WHEN TANK IS FULL. TOOK IT IN FOR REPAIR THEY SAID COULDNT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. A FEW DAYS LATER IT DID READ INCORRECTLY SAID QUARTER TANK MY WIFE RAN OUT OF GAS IN A BAD AREA. CALLED PRESTON THE DEALER WE BOUGHT IT FROM THEY WANTED ME TO BRING IT IN AGAIN I TOLD THEM TO ORDER THE PART THEY REPLACED BECAUSE WE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE TILL THEY DID THE RECALL. WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 6 TO 8 MONTHS TO GET PART. I FEEL THIS IS A BAD PROBLEM WE HAVE TO WATCH OUR MILEAGE TO MAKE SURE WE DONT RUN OUT OF GAS. BRAND NEW CAR AND THEY CANT GET PARTS THATS RIDICULOUS. AND NOW ENGINE LIGHT IS ON
The car stalled while going 45 mph due to a defective fuel sensor per dealer. It then took over a week for them to repairand we were told at least five other vehicles had similar problems
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Terrain. The contact stated that on four occasions while driving with the Adaptive Cruise Control function engaged, the vehicle shut off unintendedly. The Adaptive Cruise Control was set to 76 MPH and the vehicle decelerated to 34 MPH in several seconds. The contact stated that the steering wheel became inoperable. After several attempts, the vehicle restarted and drove at approximately 18 MPH. The contact stated that the vehicle entered Auto-Stop Mode. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.
