Tire Size: 265 70 16. While driving on a straight and level highway, the right rear tire sidewall completely shredded. Tire lost all air pressure and separated from the rim. I bought four General Grabber tires in July 2021. This is the second tire that the sidewall shredded. The first one shredded on the left rear side in July of 2024. There are a lot of General Grabber tires being recalled for over-cured sidewalls but it's strange that there are no recalls on this particular tire.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC YUKON XL. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A SPUTTERING NOISE AND STALLED. THE CONTACT THEN STATED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE AND CHECK ENGINE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT'S BOYFRIEND CALLED SMITH BUICK GMC AT 321-405-3488 (510 E NASA BLVD, MELBOURNE, FL 32901), BUT THE CALL WAS DISCONNECTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
ON 11/5/17 MY 2004 GMC YUKON XL WAS INVOLVED IN A SEVERE COLLISION WHERE MY TRUCK HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE BOTH VEHICLES WERE DOING 55+ MPH. MY FRONT END TOOK ALL MY DAMAGE. NOT ONE AIRBAG WENT OFF IN MY TRUCK.
RUSTY BRAKE LINES RESULTING IN COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. THANKFULLY THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME, SO NO ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS FAILURE.
THE SECOND ROW SEATING IN MY SUV IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE OPTION TO LAY DOWN OR SIT UP LIKE NORMAL. WHEN I TRIED TO LIFT THE SEAT OF THE LARGE SECTION TO LAY THE SEAT FLAT. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME FAILURE MENTIONED IN RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000.
THE SECOND ROW SEATING IN MY SUV IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE OPTION TO LAY DOWN OR SIT UP LIKE NORMAL. WHEN I TRIED TO LIFT THE SEAT OF THE LARGE SECTION TO LAY THE SEAT FLAT, THE CABLE BROKE AS IF IT HAD BEEN READY TO SNAP FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE SMALLER SIDE HASN'T SNAPPED YET BUT I AM SURE IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. *TR
LOW SPEED ACTIVATION OF ABS BRAKES, ON DRY PAVEMENT, EXTENDING THE STOPPING DISTANCE TO AN UNANTICIPATED LENGTH. ALTHOUGH A COLLISION DID NOT OCCUR, THE PROBLEM IS ON GOING. THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES WHICH ARE INCLUDED IN THE MANUFACTURER'S RECALL 05V379000. EVEN THOUGH WE ARE NOT LOCATED IN ONE OF THE 14 STATES INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, OUR STATE DOES AND HAS USED SALT AND OTHER CORROSIVE SUBSTANCES TO CLEAR ROADWAYS OF ICE AND SNOW FOR MANY YEARS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5-10 MPH WHILE INITITATING A TURN, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,000.
AFTER GETTING CUT OFF AND HAVING TO MAKE A PANIC STOP THE BRAKE LINES IN MY TRUCK BURST CAUSING THE PEDAL TO GO TO THE GROUND AND OFFER NO BRAKING POWER. I THEN TRIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH ALSO DIDN'T WORK DUE TO THE BURST LINES. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STEER INTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION INTO A LOWER GEAR TO SLOW DOWN BEFORE PUTTING IT INTO PARK AT 25 MPH AND SKIDDING TO A STOP. AFTER GETTING HOME AND DOING RESEARCH AND LEARNED OF YOUR INVESTIGATION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE AS I ALMOST DIED. *TR
BROUGHT YUKON IN TO KOONS GMC IN MANASSAS, VIRGINIA IN 2012 FOR TWO RECALLS WHICH I WAS TOLD WERE BOTH DONE ALONG WITH GETTING AN ESTIMATE FOR $3300 FOR LARGELY AN INTAKE MANIFOLD. I HAVE CALLED GM CORP AND BEEN TOLD MANY TIMES OVER THAT PAST TWO YEARS AS MORE CARS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO RECALL LISTS THAT THERE WERE NO REMAINING RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE; NOW GM CORPORATE SAYS THE WHEEL SENSOR RECALL (NECESSARY TO AVOID LOW SPEED CRASHES) WAS ACTUALLY NEVER PERFORMED AND GM CORPORATE CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BOTH DEALERSHIPS IN THE DC AREA AND GM CORPORATE OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS (EXCEEDING 10 TOTAL CALLS) SINCE THAT THERE WERE NO REMAINING RECALLS LEFT TO PERFORM ON THIS YUKON. PRESUMABLY THE HEADREST RECALL I BROUGHT IT INTO KOONS IN MANASSAS, VA AS A SECOND AFTERTHOUGHT TO THE WHEEL SENSOR RECALL WAS THE ONLY THING THEY ENDED UP DOING OTHER THAN GIVING ME AN ESTIMATE FOR OVER $3300 FOR WORK THAT HAS NEVER NEEDED TO BE DONE. MY UNANSWERED QUESTION TO GM CORPORATE WAS "I'S THIS HOW YOUR GOING TO HANDLE THE IGNITION RECALLS?" ADDITIONALLY, GM CLAIMS TO BE UNABLE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION OF WHETHER MY IGNITION SWITCH IS THE SAME IN DESIGN AS ANY OF THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. DO AMERICANS CITIZENS NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO AT LEAST THAT MUCH "PROPRIETARY"-PROTECTED INFORMATION FROM GM? GM CORPORATE'S SPECIALIST CLAIMED TO OBJECT TO MY MENTIONING THAT I, TOO, MIGHT RECORD THE CALL. KOONS ALSO NEVER NOTICED THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD BROKEN OUT THE ABS LIGHT BECAUSE PRIOR TO THE RECALL (WHICH SHOULD HAVE LATER TIPPED ME OFF THAT THEY DID NOT ACTUALLY CLEAN THE WHEEL SENSOR AND CHECK THE ABS LIGHT SINCE IT WAS NOT ON THE $3300 ESTIMATE OF NECESSARY REPAIRS), BECAUSE NOBODY REALLY KNEW THEN WHY THE ABS LIGHT WOULD STAY ON. I BELIEVE THIS WAS A RETALIATORY ACT. I MENTIONED TO KOONS SND GM CORPORATE BEFORE SERVICE THAT I WAS DISABLED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON 85 AT 70 MILES AN HOUR AND MY VEHICLE DECIDED TO DROP DOWN TO 20. I HAVE LOOKED UP INFORMATION ON ISSUES THIS TRUCK HAS HAD AND 1 OF THEM IS REGISTERED UNDER NHTSA ID # 100032435 / PIP-4695.GM: LOSS OF POWER HESITATES ON ACCELERATION. 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, 5.7 AND 6.0 ENGINES COUPLED WITH THE 4L60E OR 4L65E MAY EXPERIENCE A CONDITION OF HESITATES, MISSES OR LOSS OF POWER UNDER ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE MAY OPERATE AS IF IT IS IN REDUCED POWER MODE. *PE I HAVE PURCHASED AN AIR MASS FLOW SENSOR, THROTTLE BODY SENSOR, ALL 4 O2 SENSORS, AND A COOLANT SENSOR. MY TRUCK IS STILL NOT RUNNING AT FULL CAPACITY. I NEED SOME INFORMATION ON THIS AND SOME HELP FIXING MY VEHICLE. *TR
VEHICLE WAS SHIPPED WITH HEADS THAT WOULD CRACK OVER TIME. THE CAR HAS BEEN LEAKING COOLANT FOR OVER A YEAR AND CAUSED MAJOR ENGINE FAILURE. THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY HUNDREDS OF THOUSAND VEHICLES AND SHOULD BE A RECALL/COMPENSATION FROM GM. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN DEPRESSED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY . THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 157,500. UPDATED 02/24/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALLS WERE NEVER DONE. THE RECALLS WERE FALSELY REPORTED AS BEING COMPLETE. THE FRONT BEARING ASSEMBLIES HAD TO BE REPLACED, AT THE CONSUMERS EXPENSE. UPDATED 02/25/14
APPLIED PRESSURE TO BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. TOOK THE CAR TO A MIDAS MUFFLER GARAGE AS IT WAS CLOSEST FOR DIAGNOSIS AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED AWAY. IT HAD RUSTED OUT AT THE POINT WHERE IT GOES OVER THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS MANY TIMES ON THESE CARS. *TR
COMING TO A STOP AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR....MY VEHICLE THEN ROLLED INTO INTERSECTION CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE OTHER VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE FRONT OF MY VEHICLE. FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND BRAKE LINE BURST. TO REMEDY SITUATION I REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30-40 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE PEDAL ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND BECAME STUCK IN POSITION. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS CORRODED, CAUSING BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
I WAS JUST BACKING UP TO HITCH A TRAILER WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, THANKFULY IT HAPPENED BEFORE I HOOKED THE TRAILER AS I WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT TOWING A TRAILER WITH NO BRAKES! *TR I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SAW IT WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID TOWARD THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR, BRAKE LINE HAD BURST.
MY MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND WOULD COST @ $3000 TO REPLACE. YUKON WILL NOT PASS PA INSPECTION AND IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AROUND TOWN WHEN THE BRAKES FELT A LITTLE SOFT. THE NEXT MORNING THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE VEHICLE. I PUT IN A HALF A BOTTLE OF BRAKE FLUID INTO THE RESERVOIR. I DROVE TO THE HOUSE AND PARKED IT. SEVERAL MINUTES AFTER PARKING THERE WAS THE BEGINNING OF A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID. I MADE SEVERAL OTHER STOPS AND AT EACH STOP BRAKE FLUID WAS BEGINNING TO LEAK WHEN VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. TOOK VEHICLE TO SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE LINES ALL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

DRIVING ON SOUTH ON ROUTE 95 THROUGH CONNECTICUT AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON 17AUG12. HAD TO STOP SUDDENLY DUE TO TRAFFIC INCIDENT AHEAD. APPLIED BRAKES BUT LINE BURST AND PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR. CAR WOULD NOT STOP BUT FORTUNATELY WAS ABLE TO MOVE INTO BREAKDOWN LANE TO ALLOW LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE. NARROWLY AVOIDED REAR ENDING CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT HIGH SPEED. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. THEY FOUND THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED DUE TO RUST. DEALER REPLACED 40" OF BRAKE LINE. A SIMILAR EVENT OCCURRED DURING MAY OF 2013 ON ROUTE 3 IN MASSACHUSETTS. A COLLISION WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE AND TOWING BOAT DEPRESSED BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING THAT BRAKES WERE ABOUT TO FAIL. USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE. AFTER GETTING VEHICLE TO SECURE LOCATION, OBSERVED STEADY STREAM OF BRAKE FLUID RUNNING ONTO GROUND FROM UNDER DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. APPARENTLY ROTTEN BRAKE LINES THAT RUN FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE TO REAR FAILED. *TR
DRIVING ON TWO LANE ROAD AT 35 MPH. WEATHER WAS CLEAR, ROADS DRY, TEMP 86F.APPROACHING A HILL WITH INTERSECTION AT BOTTOM OF HILL, APPLIED BRAKES AND BRAKE PEDAL HAD NO RESISTANCE, NEARLY TO FLOOR WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKING. BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHEN BRAKES APPLIED(NOT BEFORE). USED PARKING BRAKE TO STOP TRUCK AT INTERSECTION, BARELY MISSING COLLIDING WITH CROSSING TRAFFIC. WAS ABLE TO GET TRUCK TO TRUSTED MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED EVERY INCH OF BRAKE LINE FROM ABS BOOSTER TO ALL FOUR WHEELS BADLY CORRODED, LIKE PAPER. LINE WAS PERFORATED OVER REAR AXLE CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID, ALL HYDRAULIC PRESSURE AND NO BRAKING ABILITY. MECHANIC IS CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC WITH OVER 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE, SAID HAS NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE EVEN IN ANTIQUE OR ABANDONED VEHICLES. *TT
MY GMC YUKON EXPERIENCED TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WITH OUR 3 MONTH OLD SON AND LUCKILY SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP OFF OF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN A FIELD. WHEN I ARRIVED, I FOUND A PUDDLE OF FLUID UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT FROM BADLY CORRODED STEEL BRAKE LINES. AFTER ONLY A FEW MINUTES OF ONLINE RESEARCHING, I HAVE FOUND THOUSANDS OF SIMILAR STORIES; SOME OF WHICH ENDED MUCH WORSE. CLEARLY THIS IS A QUALITY AND SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
BRAKE LINE ON DRIVER SIDE ROTTED CAUSING RAPID LOSS OF FLUID. *TR
WHEN SLOWING DOWN AT AN INTERSECTION STOP LIGHT, AT THE SPEED OF UNDER 10 MPH, THE ABS BRAKES SUDDENLY KICKED IN AND PULSATED, NOT ALLOWING THE TRUCK TO STOP. THIS ALMOST RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION WITH A STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN, CAUSING ME TO PANIC AND STUMP ON THE BRAKES HARD BEFORE RUNNING INTO THE PARKING BLOCKS IN FRONT OF A BUSINESS. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANICS THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM. EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NO ABS WARNING LIGHT OR ERROR CODE, WE ELECTED TO REPLACE BOTH ABS SPEED SENSORS AS A PRECAUTION. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED. I DECIDED TO HAVE BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES INCLUDING ROTORS REPLACED AS A PRECAUTION. THE PROBLEM STILL ACCURES WITH EVERY SLOWER SPEED ATTEMP TO STOP. I AM VERY RELUCTANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND WHEN I DUE, I HAVE TO BEGIN MY BRAKING WELL IN ADVANCE AND AT A INCREASED DISTANCE FROM WHERE I WOULD LIKE TO STOP. *TT
AFTER NO WARNING (LIGHTS, CHIMES OR ALARMS), APPLIED BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. NO BRAKES. LUCKILY IT WAS VERY EARLY AND NOBODY WAS ON THE ROAD WHEN I BLEW THROUGH A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION. *TR LOCAL DEALER SAYS ALUMINUM BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND HAD RUPTURED. NEARLY $2000 TO REPLACE ALUMINUM BRAKE LINES WITH STEEL. EVERYONE KNOWS WHEN YOU PLACE DIFFERENT METALS IN CONTACT WHERE THEY CAN GET WET, YOU WILL GET ELECTRO-CHEMICAL CORROSION OF THE WEAKER METAL, IN THIS CASE, ALUMINUM. THAT'S WHY BOATS USE ALUMINUM AND ZINC AS A SACRIFICIAL METAL IN MARINE ENVIRONMENTS - TO PROTECT THE ENGINE FROM CORROSION. THIS IS SURELY AN ENGINEERING FLAW. ON MY YUKON, THE ALUMINUM BRAKE LINES ARE ATTACHED TO THE STEEL FRAME UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHERE THEY ARE SURE TO GET WET ANYTIME IT RAINS, THUS GUARANTEEING THE WEAKER ALUMINUM METAL WILL CORRODE. I HAVE A 45-YEAR-OLD MUSTANG WITH ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES (STEEL) AND NO CORROSION. 10 YEARS IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE FOR BRAKE LINES TO BE CORRODED TO THE POINT OF CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE THROUGH NORMAL USE AND NORMAL WEATHER. I LIVE IN MARYLAND, NOT ALASKA. OUR WEATHER IS AVERAGE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED. *TR
RIGID BRAKE LINE CORRODED AND FAILED LEADING TO GREATLY DIMINISHED BRAKING CAPACITY. THIS POSES A SAFETY HAZARD. I WAS TOLD BY THE GM DEALER I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR 2000 YUKON A WEEK AND A HALF AGO, AND WHILE COMPLETELY STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN NOT TWO MILES FROM OUR HOME, THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG DEPLOYED. NO ONE WAS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AT THE TIME, AND THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS INJURED, HOWEVER I AM INCREDIBLY WORRIED ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THE VEHICLES SAFETY. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN IN CAR SEATS, AND MY INFANT SON SITS DIRECTLY BEHIND THE PASSENGER SEAT IN A REAR FACING CAR SEAT. NOT ONLY WOULD THE INCREDIBLY LOUD 'GUNSHOT' SOUND HAVE POSSIBLY DAMAGED HIS EARS, BUT THE SMOKY AFTERMATH THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH WOULD HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE FOR BOTH CHILDREN'S LUNGS. AIRBAGS ARE AN INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE THAT IS UNPARALLELED WHEN THEY OPERATE CORRECTLY. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS FAULTY WIRING OR SENSORS IN THIS MODEL SUV FOR THE SIDE SEAT AIRBAG TO GO OFF NOT ONLY WHEN THERE WAS NO ONE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, BUT WHEN THE CAR WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP. MY CONCERN IS WITH THE REST OF THE VEHICLES AIRBAG SENSORS, BECAUSE I AM NOT CONFIDENT THAT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO SPONTANEOUSLY GO OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. WE CONTACTED OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP WITH THE PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, HOWEVER IT WAS A SUNDAY AND WE WERE TOLD NO ONE WAS AVAILABLE TO HELP US. A VEHICLE INSPECTION WAS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, THE 21ST, AND MY HUSBAND RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE INSPECTOR LATER THAT NIGHT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT THE INCIDENT. WE WERE TOLD BY THE INSPECTOR THAT WE WOULD BE RECEIVING A CALL FROM GMC WITH THE DETAILS AND OUTCOME OF THE INSPECTION. IT IS NOW THURSDAY THE 23RD, AND EVEN AFTER TWO PHONE CALLS I STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM ANYONE. I HAVE NOW BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR TWELVE DAYS, AND STILL CANNOT DRIVE IT BECAUSE I AM NOT COMFORTABLE TRANSPORTING MY CHILDREN. RIGHT FRONT RUNNING LIGHT ON MY 2000 GMC YUKON DOES NOT LIGHT. I SEE THE SAME PROBLEM ON MANY GMC AND CHEVROLET TRUCKS AND SUVS. THE PROBLEM MAY APPEAR IN A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF THESE VEHICLES. WHEN I REMOVE THE HOUSING FOR THE LIGHT IT USUALLY HOLDS WATER FROM RAIN OR CAR WASHES. THERE IS A HOLE IN THE HOUSING WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT WAS POKED WITH A SCREWDRIVER. A NEW BULB WILL ONLY LAST FOR 100 MILES OR SO, THEN IT WILL SHORT OUT. *TR
JUNE 2010 AS I WAS PULLING MY 2000 GMC YUKON INTO A PARKING SPACE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES LOCKED UP AND I CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE FACING ME. LIMITED DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE OTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO STOP MY VEHICLE FROM HITTING THE OTHER CAR. THERE HAD BEEN NO SIGNS OF ANYTHING BEING WRONG WITH MY BRAKES BEFORE THE INCIDENT. SINCE THEN MY VEHICLE HAS CONTINUED TO LOCK UP AT RANDOM. I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL. AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2005 IN SOME OTHER STATES WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. OF COURSE THE STATE I LIVE IN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND ONCE A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED, IT WILL NOT BE ISSUED AGAIN IN OTHER STATES. LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND PRESSURE DUE TO DEFECTIVE/ DAMAGED BRAKE SYSTEM LINE (23 DAYS AFTER GM DEALERSHIP-MALOUF GM IN NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ INFORMED ME (WHEN I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR AN UNRELATED PROBLEM- ODI # 10293760), THAT THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL). MY PRELIMINARY RESEARCH REVEALED A BULLETIN WHICH NOTES A RECALL; # 71182. INDICATION IS THAT SOME OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE A CLEARANCE CONDITION BETWEEN THE FRONT RIGHT-HAND BRAKE PIPE AND THE BODY CROSS SILL THAT COULD DECREASE TO THE POINT OF ALLOWING CONTACT DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IF CONTACT OCCURS AND THE BRAKE PIPE BECOMES DAMAGED, IN HALF OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM, THERE CAN BE LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND PRESSURE. I WAS LUCKY THAT THIS CONDITION OCCURRED WHILE I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AT VERY SLOW SPEED. THERE IS BRAKE FLUID SPILLAGE IN MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND DRIVEWAY. *TR

THE FIRST EXPERIENCE ALMOST RESULTED IN REAR-END CRASH INTO A VEHICLE AHEAD. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A GM DEALERSHIP (MALOUF GM) ON 11/06/09 AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO OPEN RECALL (THEY REPORTEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEM ON 11/01/2001). ABS BRAKES ACTIVATING ON DRY ROADS AT SLOW SPEEDS JUST BEFORE STOPPING. THIS ORIGINALLY STARTED SEVERAL YEARS AGO BUT WAS FIXED UNDER NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 DATED 8/3/05. THE PROBLEM IS BACK IN OUR CAR JUST A COUPLE YEARS LATER. SAME PROBLEM AND NOW THE GM DEALER SAYS IT WON'T BE COVERED BY THE RECALL. WE'VE HAD A COUPLE CLOSE CALLS ENTERING OUR GARAGE AS WE'RE JUST ABOUT TO STOP AND THE ABS GOES OFF EXTENDING OUR STOPPING DISTANCE. *TR

THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER ROTORS AND PADS BEFORE THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER IN ORDER TO HAVE IT INSPECTED, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FAILURE WAS WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 05V379000, WHICH WAS RELATED TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150000.

WHILE COMING TO A STOP, AT LOW SPEED ON DRY PAVEMENT MY VEHICLE'S ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATED AND DESPITE CONTINUED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE THE VEHICLE ADVANCED ~8 FEET BEYOND THE INTENDED STOPPING POSITION, NEARLY HITTING A STOPPED SCHOOL THE PROCESS. INTRIGUED BY THE PROBLEM I EXPERIMENTED TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE INTERMITTENT PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE, FOR SAFETY REASONS, DEFEATING THE ABS BY REMOVING THE FUSE THAT POWERS THE CONTROL MODULE. AS I HAVE NOW DISCOVERED, ACTIVATION OF THE ABS TO LOW SPEEDS CONTINUES TO BE A RELATIVELY COMMON PROBLEM WITH GM LIGHT TRUCKS OF THE 2000 MODEL YEAR AND NEWER. INDEED MY VEHICLE WAS RECALLED IN DECEMBER, 2005 TO SUPPOSEDLY PROVIDE A "FIX" SO THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT OCCUR. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH A GM ENGINEER (MAYBE A MARKETING PERSON IN REALITY) WHO TOLD ME SOME NONSENSE ABOUT THIS NOT BEING A RECURRENCE OF THE SENSOR PROBLEM. ACTUALLY IT WAS THE CONVERSATION WITH THE ENGINEER THAT LEAD TO MAKING THIS COMPLAINT. I AM NOT SO UPSET ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE SYSTEM FAILED, FAILURE DO OCCUR, THE PROBLEM IS WITH HOW THE SYSTEM REACTED IN FAILURE. I WORK ON VEHICLE SENSOR SYSTEMS (SUSPENSIONS AND FLUID DIAGNOSTICS) AND A MAJOR DESIGN CONSTRAINT FOR ANY SYSTEM IS THAT ANY FAILURE MODE CANNOT NOT LEAD TO AN UNSAFE CONDITION. IN THE CASE OF MY VEHICLE'S ABS, THE FAILURE MODE ALMOST ALLOW ME TO HIT THE SCHOOL BUS. I THOUGHT DUAL CHANNEL MASTER BRAKE CYLINDERS WERE REQUIRED MANY YEARS AGO (1968 IF I RECALL CORRECTLY) TO TAKE THE EXCITEMENT OUT OF BRAKE FAILURES. LOOKS LIKE GM HAS TRIED TO RENEW THE THRILL OF BRAKE FAILURE. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A BRIDGESTONE SHOP TO BE REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,000. A WEEK LATER, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SLIDE AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE REPAIR SHOP AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECT IN THE HYDRAULIC ANTILOCK SYSTEM. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE GMC MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, EXCEPT FOR WISCONSIN BECAUSE IT IS NOT A SALT-BELTED CORROSION STATE. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR EXPENSES.
