MY ABS BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEED AND INCREASE THE STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAVE NOT HIT ANYTHING YET BUT HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS IN PARKING LOTS AND IN TRAFFIC.
ABS SYSTEM FIRES AT LOW SPEEDS FOR NO REASON (DRY PAVEMENT). VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCE APPEARS INCREASED. GM HAS RECALL # 04094 FOR THIS ISSUE BUT IT IS LOCALIZED TO CERTAIN AREAS IN CANADA ONLY.*AK
1. DURING A FAMILY VACATION TO FLORIDA, MY BRAKING SYSTEM STARTED TO FAIL AT SLOW SPEEDS NORMALLY BETWEEN 5 AND 10MPH. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD BECOME STIFF AND THE SYSTEM WOULD MAKE NOISE LIKE THE ABS WAS BEING ACTIVATED. 2. BEING A FAMILY VEHICLE, I HAD THE REPAIR DONE IMMEDIATELY, THE TECHNICIANS IN FLORIDA WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH MY SYMPTOM. AT FIRST THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER BUT THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. 3. THE CREW TOOK TWO ADDITIONAL DAYS TO FIGURE OUT FINALLY THAT THE FRONT WHEEL SENSORS FOR THE ABS WERE CORRODED (BECAUSE I LIVE IN MAINE) AND THEY FINALLY REPLACED THE SENSORS AND THIS ALLEVIATED THE PROBLEM.
THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED WHILE DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS. FORTUNATELY NOT WHILE ON THE CURVY, SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN ROADS. THE VEHICLE REQUIRED TOWING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN TO THE NEAREST GMC DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PUMP AND CHARGED $200. MUCH INCONVEIENCE WAS INCURRED, WE HAD TO BE RETRIVED FROM THE MOUNTAINS(65 MILES), TAKEN TO THE DEALER BY OTHERS TO RETRIVE VEHICLE, ETC. THERE'S A RECALL(ID 05V005000) OF 98,221 OF THIS EXACT MODEL AND YEAR FOR THE EXACT SAME FAILURE. GMC CLAIMS MY VEHICLE IS NOT COVERED BY THIS RECALL AND WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME THE $200, WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE THE SHUTTLE COST FROM THE MOUNTAINS TO HOME AND OTHER INCIDENTALS.
WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH POWER STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED. DRIVER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND PULLED OVER. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE HYDRAULIC PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT NO WARNING WAS GIVEN PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS 1 OF 198 THAT ARE BEING RECALLED. NO RECALL WAS FOUND. *TC
FIRST PASSENGER WINDOW STOPPED WORKING, FOUND OUT IT WAS THE WINDOW REGULATOR. HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE PART FOR MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY BOTH GM AND MY AUTO PART STORE THERE IS A SHORTAGE AND THE AUTO PART STORE SAYS ALOT OF GM OWNERS HAVE BEEN REQUESTING THAT PART. STILL WAITING AND DRIVER WINDOW IS STARTING TO GO. THERE MUST BE A PROBLEM. PLEASE CHECK INTO. *NM
I SPOKE WITH A LARRY AT THE NHTSA BACK IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR. FAXED HIM A COPY OF THE BILL I HAD FOR THE POWER STEERING IN MY YUKON XL SAYS THERE WAS GOING TO BE MORE INVESTIGATING AND THIS RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING MAY BE EXPANDED TO MY TRUCK..THE 1500 SERIES BUT I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING. JUST A FUNNY THING THAT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME THE POWER STEERING CUT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, BUT IT DOESN'T CONCERN THE 1500. *NM
I HAVE CONCERNS OVER THE DRIVERS SEAT BACK IN MY 2000 GM YUKON XL. EVERY TIME I SLOW OR STOP THE SEAT TIPS FORWARD. THE SEAT BELT IS ATTACHED TO THE SEAT BACK. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND IT TO BE THE GEAR BOX DRIVEN BY THE ELECTRIC SEAT BACK MOTOR HAS PLAY IN BETWEEN THE GEARS. WHEN CHECKING INTO REPLACEMENT PARTS THERE WAS A NOTE ON THE GM COMPUTER THAT REPLACING THIS PART WOULD CORRECT SEAT BACK MOVEMENT WHEN VEHICLE STOPS. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT WILL BREAK LOOSE IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION FORCING ME INTO THE STEERING COLUMN OR CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *JB
CONTACT STATES: ABS ON VEHICLE WERE COMING ON WHILE BEING ON DRY PAVEMENT. THIS OCCURRED ALSO ON SLIPPERY ROADS, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. PAID FOR REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET, A NEW BRAKE SENSOR WAS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE. AFTERWARDS NO PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR.*AK
I HAVE YOUR CAMPAIGN ID#05V005000 RECALL DATE: 1/5/2005 I HAVE 2000 GMC YUKON XL, [XXX],[XXX], [XXX], [XXX], [XXX], MY POWER STEERING CUT OUT ON MY ON 1/19/05 I SAW THIS RECALL ON YOUR WEBSITE, CALLED GM, THEY CAN SEE THIS, AND SINCE THE RECALLS AREN'T GOING OUT FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER WEEK OR SO AND MY VIN# ISN'T LINKED TO IT THEY CAN'T AUTHORIZED REPAIR. I DROVE FOR A FEW DAYS WITHOUT THE POWER STEERING AND THEN RENTED A CAR, I CAN NO LONGER AFFORD THE RENTAL AND NEED MY TRUCK FIXED. IT IS PRESENTLY TODAY(1/25/05) AT MCGUIRE PONTIAC IN LITTLE FALLS NJ (973-785-2220) AND I JUST GAVE THE GO AHEAD TO FIX IT. I DON'T REALLY HAVE THIS $800.00 TO DO THIS AND GM IS DOING AN ESCALATION REPORT TO SEE IF THEY CAN SPEED UP THINGS BUT THAT WILL TAKE A FEW DAYS. I CAN'T WAIT THIS LONG. I DON'T SEE WHY IF A 2000 GMC YUKON XL IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES AFFECTED WHY IT IS TAKING SO LONG TO APPROVE. I UNDERSTAND I WILL BE DUE A REFUND BUT IT IS AGGRAVATING THAT I HAVE TO PUT OUT THIS MONEY TO BEGIN WITH. WHY POST THIS FOR PUBLIC VIEWING IF THEY ARE HONORING IT UNTIL IT IS OFFICIAL. ABS BRAKES ENGAGED WITH NO WARNING AT LOW SPEEDS (PARKING LOTS, STOP SIGNS, DRIVE THROUHS) AND GREATLY INCREASED THE STOPPING DISTANCE AND SAFETY. THIS WAS OCCOURING IN THE FALL OF '04 EALY WINTER OF '05. THIS WOULD HAPPEN ON TOTALY DRY SURFACES, AND WAS TO GREAT OF A RISK TO LEAVE UN-REPAIRED. I HAD TO PAY OVER $900.00 TO CORRECT THE ONE FRONT WHEEL AND THE OTHER(S) ARE SURE TO FOLLOW. THIS IS POOR COMPENENT DEISIGN, AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED AS DEFECTIVE. AN OWNER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DISCONECT THE ABS COMPUTER TO AVOID THE BRAKE FAILURE, IF THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO PAY THE $900.00 + PER HUB. ALSO OCCAISIONALY AFTER CLICKING DRIVER'S SEAT BELT, WITH OUT WARNING, THE BELT RELEASED AT THE LATCH. NOT UNDER STRAIN, AND AFTER IT HAD BEEN FULLY ENGAGED. WHY?
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES START ACTIVATING AT SLOW SPEEDS. REPORTED TO DEALER WHO TOLD ME IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND IS EXPENSIVE TO FIX. HAS NOT CAUSED A CRASH OR INJURY YET. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE CRUISE CABLES. WITHIN 10 MONTHS AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE THE PROBLEM RECURRED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JB
I HAVE 52,000 MILE ON MY VEHICLE AND HAVE TO REPLACE THE BRAKE SYSTEM FOR THE THIRD TIME. NOT INCLUDING THE PRICE OF THIS THRID REPLACEMENT THE BRAKES AND TIRE PACKAGE IS COSTING $40 PER MILE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS UNRELIABLE AND THE MANUFACTURER REPAIRMAN STATES THE CASUE IS THE WEATHER CONDITIONS OF NEW YORK. IF THE WEATHER IS THE REASON FOR POOR BRAKE PERFORMANCE THEN THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD MODIFY THE SYSTEM OR NOT SELL THE VEHICLE IN NEW YORK.*AK
THE DESIGN OF MY 2000 GMC YUKON'S EMERGENCY BRAKE IS FAULTY. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED ON MY CAR TWICE. IN APRIL OF 2002, MY CAR FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NOT WORKING. I HAD TO PAY $550 TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS AND REPLACE A REAR ROTOR THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE HAD DAMAGED BECAUSE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS HAD WORN DOWN AND THE BASE OF THE BRAKE DAMAGED THE ROTOR. THE CAR PASSED INSPECTION BUT THE BRAKE DID NOT SEEM TO WORK WELL. SO IN 2004, INSPECTION TIME ROLLS AROUND AND MY EMERGENCY BRAKE AGAIN FAILS. I WAS TOLD GM HAD PLACED A RECALL TO FIX THEIR FAULTY DESIGN BUT I AM NOT SURE IF THAT IS TRUE OR NOT. EITHER WAY, THE DESIGN ON THIS CAR IS TERRIBLE. THE ONLY TIME THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS EVER USED IS WHEN THE STATE INSPECTION SERVICE TESTS IT TO SEE IF IT WORKS. GMC SHOULD FIX THE BRAKE SYSTEM WHERE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE SHOULD NOT BE A $400 PROBLEM EVERY TWO YEARS. *JB
APPROX 6 MONTHS AGO REAR PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW STOPPED WORKING, RECENTLY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOW DOES NOT WORK....UNKNOWN HOW THIS HAPPENED...I REPLACED DOOR SWITCH, BUT IT DID NOT CORRECT PROBLEM. I ALSO CHECKED FUSES. I REMOVED REAR DOOR PANEL AND CHECKED WIRING,OK/ I TAPPED WINDOW MOTOR AND IT BEGAN TO WORK. SHORTLY AFTER IT QUIT WORKING AGAIN. *AK
ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO MY ABS SYSTEM STARTED TO ENGAGE ON DRY PAVEMENT. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKE THE ABS WOULD ENGAGE AND THE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR, INCREASING BRAKING DISTANCE. IN ONE INSTANCE MY WIFE WAS PARKING AND THE ABS ENGAGED AND THE YUKON RAN INTO THE CONCRETE PARKING BLOCK BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T STOP. THE ABS USUALLY ENGAGES IN THE LAST 5 TO 20 FOOT OF BRAKING AND AT SLOW SPEEDS. THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMEDIATE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER AND PRIVATE SHOPS AND NO ONE CAN FIND THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHEN ADJUSTING THE STEERING WHEEL DURING NIGHT HOURS THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FLICKER. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *JB
DRIVING ALONG INTERSTATE AT SPEED LIMIT,TIRE TREAD SEPARATED, FLEW INTO WHEEL WELL. CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE TO WHEEL WELL, AND OFF COURSE TIRE DAMAGE. UNKNOWN PARTS REPAIRED/REPLACED...WILL TAKE CAR INTO DEALERSHIP TOMORROW MORNING. *JB
VACUUM PLATE BEHIND THE BRAKES RUSTED AND RUBBED AGAINST THE ROTORS. DEALERSHIP DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PLATES TO RUST. THE ROTORS AND BRAKES WERE REPLACED.*AK
WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MILES/HR, BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED SIMULTANEOUSLY AND SPONTANEOUSLY. GMC YUKON XL 2000. *JB
WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THIS CAUSED THE DRIVER TO DRIFT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE OWNER THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. *MR ALL THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES WERE LOST. THIS SAME PART WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACE AT GM BY THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *SC *JB
ACCELERATOR THROTTLE STICKS AND REQUIRES EXCESSIVE FORCE TO REQUIRE THE VEHICLE TO MOVE AND EACH TIME CAUSES VEHICLE SURGE.
REPLACEMENT OF REAR BRAKE ROTORS REPLACED DUE TO WEAR OF EMERGENCY BRAKE. REQUIRED NEW ROTORS AND A BREAK KIT. I WAS SHOWN THE SCORED ROTORS AND SAID THAT THE PARKING BREAK DID NOT OPERATE.THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN MAINTAINED BY THE DEALER AND THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE WAS FOLLOWED TO THE THE LETTER. *AK
REAR SEAT BELTS IN 2000 GMC YUKONS FAIL TO RETRACT, PROVIDING NO SAFETY FOR CHILDREN IN THE REAR SEAT WHEN SEATED IN CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS THAT ARE NOT SEMI-PERMANENTLY MOUNTED IN THE REAR WITH THE SEAT BELT THREADED THROUGH THEM. CHILD SEATS THAT USE THE SEAT BELT AS THE PRIMARY RESTRAINING DEVICE ARE USELESS WHEN THE BELTS DO NOT TIGHTEN. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO GMC AND THE DEALER HAS REPAIRED AND/OR REPLACED THE SEAT BELT ON SEVERAL OCCASSIONS. THE DEALER'S RECOMMENDATION IS TO NOT PULL THE BELT OUT ALL THE WAY BECAUSE IT MAY NOT RETRACT - SOMETIMES HARD TO ENFORCE WITH CHILDREN. THE SOLUTION IS FAIRLY SIMPLE - THE AFFECTED VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE A REDESIGNED SEAT BELT MECHANISM PROVIDED TO VEHICLE OWNERS, EITHER BY RECALL OR ON REQUEST. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE GOING 65MPH A LOUD RACING NOISE COULD BE HEARD IN THE TRANSMISSION, THE GEARS SOUNDED LIKE THEY WERE GRINDING, THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAS THEN TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED; THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME WHEN THE NOISES STARTED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ONCE AGAIN TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION INSPECTED. UPON INSPECTION THE TRANSMISSION WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE. NO REPAIRS MADE AT THIS TIME. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
WHEN MAKING A RIGHT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
PARKING BRAKE ISSUE. I OCCASIONALLY NOTICED A SCRAPING NOISE COMING SOMEWHERE FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. THE SERVICING DEALER PULLED THE REAR BREAK ROTOR OFF TO INSPECT THE PARKING BRAKE. THEY FOUND THAT THE PAD HAD WORN ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE METAL AND THAT THE NOISE I WAS HEARING WAS THE REMENANTS OF THE SHOE, THE LINER, SCRAPING AGAINST THE DRUM. THE DEALER MAINTAINED THAT I MUST BE DRIVING WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. I MAINTAINED THAT WAS NOT TRUE, THAT THERE MUST BE A DESIGN FLAW WITH SOME OF THE BRAKE COMPONENTS CAUSING THE UNINTENDED ENGAGING OF THE PARKING BRAKE SHOE AND THE DRUM. I CONTACTED GMC DIRECTLY A SPOKE WITH A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WHO MAINTAINED THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I DID NOT WANT TO SIMPLY REPLACE ALL THE PARKING BRAKE AND DRUM AS I FELT THERE WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND THAT MY ISSUE WOULD BE RECURRING. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THE BRAKE SHOE LINER COULD EVENTUALLY WEAR OUT THE DRUM AND POSSIBLE CAUSE A CRASH. HOWEVER, I AM NOT ABLE TO STOP DRIVING THE CAR. SUBSEQUENTLY, AFTER RESEARCHING THE NHTSA SITE, I FOUND GMC'S SERVICE BULLETIN, NHTSA # 10000172 DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM AND THE RECOMMENDED FIX, WHICH WAS REPLACING A PART WITH A "NEWLY DESIGNED PART ( A TENSION SPRING)! THE SERVICE BULLETIN DID NOT STATE THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY DRIVERS DRIVING THEIR CARS WITH THEIR PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED. I BELIEVE THAT ENOUGH OWNERS COMPLAINED AND GMC REALIZED THAT IT WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM. THE BULLENTIN COVERS SERVAL GM MODELS. AGAIN, THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE NOISE CAUSED BY THE SCRAPING, BUT THE POTENTIAL ACCIDENT CAUSED BY THE BRAKE SHOE LINER EVENTUALLY WEARING THRU THE PARKING BRAKE DRUM POSSIBLE CAUSING THE ROTOR TO SEPERATE. THIS COULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. A LOSS OF CONTROL OR SUDDEN STOP PROBABLY WOULD TAKE PLACE. I THINK THAT COULD BE VERY SERIOUS AND NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.
WE ARE AFFECTED BY THE RECENT RECALL CONCERNING THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT AND ARE WAITING FOR THE NEW HARNESS PARTS TO ARRIVE. HOWEVER, ABOUT THE SAME TIME WE BEGAN HAVING TROUBLE WITH THAT, WE ALSO BEGAN TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH A STICKING ACCELERATOR. AFTER STARTING AND PLACING THE VEHICLE IN GEAR, THE THROTTLE STICKS AND IS OBVIOUSLY A MECHANICAL PROBLEM RATHER THAN A LUBRICATION ISSUE. ONCE THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO ROLL, THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY. WE AHEV LIVED WITH THIS FOR SOME TIME AND HAVE RECENTLY DRIVEN TWO OTHER GMC PRODUCTS (2001 GMC 1500 YUKON XL AND A 2001 CHEVY 1500 PICKUP), THEY TOO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM QUITE CERTAIN THIS IS GOING TO BECOME A RECALL EVENT DUE TO THE FACT THAT WITH THE STICKING OF THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE OFTEN LURCHES FORWARD AFTER ENOUGH PRESSURE HAS BEEN EXERTED. THE FIRST TIME THE ABS EBCU FAILED WE HAD ONLY OWNED THE CAR A FEW YEARS. WE FIGURED OUT SOMETHING WAS WRONG BY THE CONTINUOUS GROWLING BUZZ UNDER THE VEHICLE. WE HAD TO FULL THE FUSE TO DISCONNECT THE UNIT TO PREVENT IT FROM RUNNING DOWN THE BATTERY WHILE WE TRIED TO LEARN EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG. ----------- ON THE GOOD SIDE, THE CAR RUNS FINE WITHOUT IT. ON THE BAD SIDE, EBCU REPLACEMENT IS A RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. NOW WITHOUT A WARRANTY, BUT WITH THE INTERNET, I LEARNED HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE OF THIS UNIT. PASSENGER AND BOTH REAR SEAT POWER WINDOWS QUITE WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. THIS COULD POSSIBLY BE A DANGER IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM ON 2000 YUKONS. THROTTLE PEDAL STICKS AND YOU HAVE TO USE EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO UNSTICK IT. THIS CAUSES YOU TO MOVE FORWARD OR BACKWARD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN AS YOU START OFF OR ARE IN A BUSY PARKING LOT. COULD CAUSE INJURY TO PEDESTERIAN OR SMALL CHILD. I HAVE ALSO SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM FILED ON 2000 YUKONS. PASSENGER SEAT BELT TIGHTENS AS YOU RIDE TO THE POINT OF CAUSING PAIN, YOU MUST DISENGAGE SEAT BELT AND RENGAGE TO CORRECT PROBLEM. THIS IS ALSO IS A DANGER AS YOU COULD BE UNBELTED WHEN AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS. I ALSO HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN SERVICE BULLENTINS ON THESE PROBLEMS, BUT GM REFUSES TO PAY THE REPAIR COST ON OUR VEHICLE. THEY HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS SINCE THESE VEHICLES WERE IN WARRANTY. I PURCHASED A 1996 YUKON NEW AND HAD IT UNTIL TRADING FOR THIS 2000 YUKON, I NEVER HAD A COMPLAINT. THEIR QUALITY ASSURANCE HAS SURE GONE DOWN HILL SINCE 1996.*AK
MY YOUKON WOULD NOT START INTERMITTENTLY. I HAD IT TOWED TO COURTESY CHEVROLET AND THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR $1500 TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND PUMP MODULE. I COULD NOT BELIEVE A TRUCK ONLY 4 YEARS OLD ALREADY NEEDED A NEW FUEL TANK. SO I SEARCHED THE NHTSA DATABASE FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS, AND FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE EXCEPT IT IS BEING CAUSED BY SHORTED PUMP WIRES IN THE GAS TANK. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE TRUCK HOME AND REMOVED THE GAS TANK MYSELF SO I COULD GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS. WHEN I REMOVED THE PUMP MODULE FROM THE TANK IT WAS JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE HAD SAID. THE WIRES WERE COMPLETELY MELTED TOGETHER. THEREFORE THE INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH THE TRUCK NOT STARTING WAS BEING CAUSED BY THE WIRES SHORTING FROM TIME TO TIME INSIDE THE GAS TANK. WHAT IS AMAZING TO ME IS THAT I AM STILL ALIVE TODAY AND MY WIFE AND TWO KIDS (6 & 8) DID NOT GET INJURED. I BELIEVE THERE IS AN EFFORT OF GM TO COVER THIS PROBLEM UP DUE TO MY DEALINGS WITH GM CUSTOMER SUPPORT (OR THEIR LACK OF). REPORTING THIS TO THE NHTSA IS JUST MY FIRST STEP. I WILL FURTHER ELEVATE THIS TO THE NECESSARY LEVEL TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED IN ALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. THE FIRST TIME MY ENGINE STALLED WAS BACK IN 2001 ON THE MIDDLE OF THE 101 FREEWAY IN LOS ANGELES. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED IT HAD TO DO WITH A CHIP. THEY REPLACED THE CHIP AND I HAVEN'T HAD A STALLING PROBLEM UNTIL NOW. MY CAR HAS STALLED TWICE IN THE PARKING LOT AND ONCE ON THE FREEWAY. I AM VERY UPSET THAT SOMETHING SO SERIOUS HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AND WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE WHEN I HAVE THE HEATER OR AC ON AND IF I COME TO A STOP.*AK
THIS RELATES TO THE RECENTLY ANNOUNCED INVESTINGATION INTO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON GM LIGHT TRUCKS AND SUVS. NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE05020 I OWN A 2000 YUKON XL. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ABOUT 2 1/2 YEARS OLD, IT DEVELOPED THE SLOW-SPEED ABS ACTIVATION PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN YOUR ABOVE-DESCRIBED ACTION, RESULTING IN OCCASIONAL INABILITY TO STOP PROPERLY AT STOP SIGNS AND PARKING SPACES. THE FREQUENCY OF INCIDENT INCREASED, UNTIL IN EARLY 2004, WE HAD AN INCIDENT WHERE WE BUMPED ANOTHER VEHICLE, ALTHOUGH WITH NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES. WE THEN TOOK IT TO A LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP, WHO REPAIRED IT BY DISASSEMBLY, CLEANING AND REASSEMBLY, AT OUR EXPENSE, SINCE THE WARRANTY PERIOD HAD LAPSED. AS OF NOW, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT YET REOCCURRED, HOWEVER, WE BELIEVE THAT SINCE THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY CORROSION, IT WILL REOCCUR. WE WOULD LIKE A PERMANENT FIX, AS WELL AS PERHAPS GM TO TAKE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR ALREADY PERFORMED.

ABS PUMP CONTINUES TO RUN EVEN WITH IGNITION SWITCH OFF. HAD TO REMOVE FUSE TO ABS SYSTEM TO STOP THE PUMP. NOW, CANNOT DETERMINE IF BRAKE SYSTEM HAS A FAILURE BECAUSE THE BRAKE INDICATOR STAYS LIT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHILE THE ABS FUSE IS REMOVED. BRAKE SYSTEM AND ABS SYSTEM SHOULD BE SEPARATE ENTITIES SO THAT A FAILURE OF THE ABS SYSTEM DOES NOT NECESSARILY INDICATE A BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE.

WHILE MAKING A SHARP TURN, THE DRIVER HEARD A RATTLE NOISE AND VIBRATION. THE TURN COULD BE AS SIMPLE AS MAKING A RIGHT/LEFT WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT TWICE AND PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *PH
THE ABS SYSTEM ON MY CAR FAILED BECAUSE OF THE ACTUAL COMPUTER CONTROL UNIT. IT FAILED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE FULL SYSTEM TO FAIL. THE CAR IS A 2000 GMC YUKON. THE FUSE CONTROLLING THE ABS SYSTEM HAD TO BE REMOVED AS THE PUMPS CONTROLLING THE SYSTEM WOULD NOT TURN OFF SINCE THE CONTROL UNIT FAILED. PROBLEMS WITH 2001 YUKON XL'S ABS EQUIPMENT.*MR THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT DEFECTIVE EMERGENCY BRAKES, HOWEVER THEY FELL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE REPAIRS WERE VERY EXPENSIVE. PLEASE HELP IN COMPENSATING THE CONSUMER FOR DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THE PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN AT LEAST 4 TIMES SINCE IT WAS NEW WITH COMPLAINTS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DOESN'T WORK. "ADJUSTMENTS" HELPED ONLY TEMPORARILY. I AM NOW INFORMED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ARE WORN OUT AND NEED TO BE REPLACED, OF COURSE AT MY EXPENSE. I WAS ALSO TOLD I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEM, AS I HAD TO BE DRIVING WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I LOOKED AT THE CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND OTHER OWNERS OF GMC YUKONS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. VERY FEW OWNERS CHECK THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ROUTINELY, IN MY OPINION, AND IT IS LIKELY THE PROBLEM MAY BE A COMMON ONE, AND THUS A SAFETY ISSUE. BASICALLY FOR THE 3 YEARS I'VE OWNED MY VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD INADEQUATE OR NON-FUNCTIONING EMERGENCY BRAKES, WHICH I FEEL HAS JEOPARDIZED MY SAFETY. MY VEHICLE HAS 46000 MILES, I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES REPAIRED BY A NON-GM FACILITY, WITH GOOD RESULTS. I WAS ALSO TOLD THERE WAS EVIDENCE THE BRAKES WERE SERIOUSLY OUT OF ADJUSTMENT, AND HAD WEAR PATTERNS WHICH WOULD INDICATE A CAUSE OTHER THAN MY DRIVING WITH THE BRAKE ON. I PLAN TO MEET WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR MY DEALER AND DISCUSS THIS MATTER FURTHER. MY EXPENSE FOR REPAIR WAS APPROX $250, DONE ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO AFTER THE DEALER HAD INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND DECLINED TO REPAIR. I FELT I HAD BEEN GIVEN MISLEADING INFORMATION AS TO THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. EARLY IN THE HISTORY OF THIS PROBLEM, I WAS TOLD THE BRAKES WERE WORKING AS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO. NAIVELY I ACCEPTED THIS EXPLANATION, UNTIL MY LAST VISIT WITH THE DEALER. I SUGGEST A SURVEY OF 1000 OWNERS BE DONE, WITH SELF CHECK OF EMERGENCY BRAKE FUNCTION, TO DETERMINE IF THIS PROBLEM IS A COMMON ONE. THANK YOU. DEALER CLAIMS THE BRAKE IS WORKING PROPERLY AS DESIGNED, TAKEN TO DEALER AT LEAST 3 TIMES OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS FOR THIS COMPLAINT, ALWAYS WITH THE SAME EXPLANATION. LAST TIME I HAD THIS CHECKED RECENTLY I WAS TOLD THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES NEEDED REPLACEMENT, THAT I HAD BEEN DRIVING WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON (UNTRUE). I HAD BRAKES EXAMINED AT A NON GMC SHOP AND WAS TOLD THE BRAKES WERE OVERLY WORN ON ONE SIDE DUE TO IMPROPER ADJUSTMENT. I HAVE NEVER HAD A FUNCTIONING PARKING BRAKE IN THIS VEHICLE.
