The ABS system in this vehicle and many other similar GM vehicles of this year have abs pumps that malfunction and/or randomly stop working just to begin working later. My vehicle currently has the abs fuse removed because whenever it’s in the abs pump runs continuously even when the vehicle is off. The vehicle I own is in good shape with only 80,000 miles. similar gm vehicles of this age with more miles have even more issues specially with the abs system it’s worse in vehicles that also come equipped with traction control.
This is the 3rd Yukon I have owned all 2001-2003. Every one of them have had serious brake issues, ABS illuminated, Parking Brake does not work, and light is illuminated, brake fluid everywhere, which when hot starts eating away at electrical components, or in my case at cooling system hoses. Which all lead too one issue after another. I really think that this shoudl be address becasue eveyone i speak with has the same issue. It's exhausting anf expensive too fix, but i have no choice becausei need 3 rows too fit all my children and cannot afford a brand new car.

UNKNOWN one the the main problem wheel hub engine electrictrical
ON JANUARY 3RD, 2021, I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON SLUSHY, ICY SECONDARY ROADS. THE REAR END CAUGHT SOME SLUSH, SLID SIDEWAYS AND SENT ME SLIDING ACROSS THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANES AND INTO A DITCH WHERE I COLLIDED WITH A TREE HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.
DRIVING TRUCK AND COULDN'T GAIN CONTROL AND WAS DRIVING ON ITS OWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT PULLING UP TO A STOP LIGHT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD EXTENDING THE BRAKING DISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINE DISINTEGRATED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I GET MY BRAKES FIXED THERE IS ALWAYS THE BREAK AND THE AIR BRAKE LIGHTS THAT APPEAR. I HAVE CHANGED TO SENSORS, FUSES AND STILL IT REMAINS. EVERY MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT NO MATTER WHAT THE BRAKE AND AIR BRAKE LIGHTS WILL APPEAR. THAT NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. SEEING ANY TYPE OF WARNING LIGHTS DRIVES ME CRAZY IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY BRAKES THEN THERE SHOULD BE NO WARNINGS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO WORK IN SPRING 2018, I APPROACHED TRAFFIC LIGHT, DEPRESSED BRAKE, WHICH WENT TO FLOOR AND HAD TO USE PARKING BREAK TO STOP. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKE LINES. THEN, 6-8 MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING, CAME TO ANOTHER STOP LIGHT, DEPRESSED BRAKES AND COULD NOT STOP UNTIL I USED PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE. HAD YUKON XL TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP AND HAD REAR BRAKE LINES REPLACED IN FALL, 2018. SINCE THEN, BRAKE LIGHTS AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY ON, WHEREAS OTHER TIMES WHEN STARTING AND DRIVING, BRAKE & ABS LIGHTS COME ON AND THEN GO OFF WHILE DRIVING. BRAKING HAS ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE INSUFFICIENT.
ON 01/23/2018 I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT. THE BRAKES WHEN APPLIED HESITATED FOR A FEW THEN FINALLY TOOK HOLD BUT BY THAT TIME IT WAS TO LATE AND I ENDED UP ON SOMEONES LAWN AFTER CRASHING THROUGH THEIR WHITE PICKET FENCE, THEN ROLLING COMPLETELY OVER ON ITS TOP, TOTALLY THE YUKON. MY CONCERN IS THE NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT ALL. THANKFULLY, I ONLY RECEIVED MINOR SCRAPES AND BRUISES. PLUS, I AM VERY SORE STILL. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD OF BEEN A WORSE CASE, WHERE I GOT SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN DEATH BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. I HAVE NOTIFIED MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO MAKE SURE THERE IS A WRITTEN PAPER TRAIL PERTAINING TO THESE ISSUES WITH THE YUKON. SPECIFICALLY, THE BRAKES NOT CATCHING IN TIME AND THE AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING. I WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE BACK TO THIS MATTER AS SOON AS YOU CAN. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE ACCIDENT MIGHT NOT OF RESULTED IN TOTALING MY VEHICLE IF THE BRAKES WERE WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN I APPLIED BRAKES IT FELT LIKE THEY WERE CATCHING BUT SEEMED TO TAKE FOREVER TO STOP SOON ENOUGH, ALMOST A HESITATION ON THE BRAKES PART. PLUS, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT WORK EITHER. SO I NEED TO KNOW WHERE I CAN FILE A CLAIM PERTAINING TO TOTALING MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF FAULTY BRAKES AND AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING. THIS COULD OF BEEN A WORSE CASE! THANK YOU
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO AVOID ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE BRAKE FUNCTIONALITY WAS LOST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A PISTON WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THREE MONTHS LATER, WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT GEARS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL POPPING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 250,000.
ACCELERATED RIGID BRAKE LINE CORROSION RESULTED IN BRAKE LINE FAILURE AND COMPLETE LOSS OF VEHICLE STOPPING ABILITY. BRAKE LINES ARE INSPECTED REGULARLY AND DID NOT APPEAR RUSTED. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH WHEN OPERATOR STEPPED ON BRAKE TO SLOW AND STOP VEHICLE. BRAKE PEDAL FELT SOFT AND THEN PRESSED COMPLETELY TO FLOOR WITHOUT ANY BRAKING ACTION. OPERATOR USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW AND STOP VEHICLE. VEHICLE REQUIRED IMMEDIATE TOWING AS IT WAS NOT ROAD WORTHY AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT BRAKING ABILITY.
THE MOTOR ON THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHEN DENALI WHEN THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING. I HAD TO DISCONNECT BATTERY FOR IT TO STOP RUNNING
A SPRING FROM A LARGE VEHICLE ON 20TH STREET ENSLEY EXIT GOT INBEDED IN MY TIRE LAST NIGHT 1/17/17 AT ABOUT 7:50PM. WHICH MADE A BIG HOLE AND I AM IN NEED OF A TIRE. I CALLED AAA AND HAD TO GET IT TOWED BECAUSE OF HOW FAST AIR CAME OUT AND ALDOT STOPPED TO HELP BUT HAD NO PLUGS. SO IT WAS TOWED
VEHICLE STALLS AND LOSES ALL POWER AT SPEED (60+MPH). AFTER A FEW MINUTES, IT RESTARTS, BUT STALLS AGAIN A FEW MILES OR A FEW HUNDRED YARDS DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TRYING TO GET IT FIXED, REPLACED FUEL PUMPS, SENSORS ETC. WITH NO LUCK. NO ERROR CODES SHOW UP.
HAVING LOW SPEED (UNDER 8MPH) ABS ACTIVATION REGARDLESS OF WEATHER/ROAD CONDITIONS. BASICALLY THE SAME ISSUE AS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER : 05V379000 BUT APPARENTLY MY VIN IS NOT COVERED, I LIVE IN ILLINOIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE EMERGING FROM THE FRONT END DIFFERENTIAL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILED, BUT THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE INSPECTED BY A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. THE FAILURE REOCCURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BRAKE LINES EXTREMELY CORRODED AND LINE TO REAR BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED LEAKING FLUID. VEHICLE FAILED WHILE DRIVING AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP. VEHICLES STOPPING DISTANCE GREATLY INCREASED.
I WAS WRONGFULLY ISSUED A SUSPENSION OF VEHICLE GOR NO INSURANCE BUT I DID HAVE CAR INSURANCE. ..
WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE STOPPED WORKING / STALLED. SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL AND TRYING TO START THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL. THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES HAD TO BE CAREFULLY STOPPED . THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! AFTER LOOKING AT AN ON-LINE FORUM, THE VEHICLE WITH THE 8.1 LITER ENGIN HAD SOME VEHICLES RECALLED WITH A CAM LOBE SENSOR FAULT WHICH CAUSES THIS TO HAPPEN. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER, THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT IN THIS RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, THEY HAD ALREADY REPLACE THE SAME PART WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 3-5 MONTHS OLD. I QUESTIONED THEM AS TO THE REPLACEMENT PART AS THE FIRST PART ONLY CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, NOT COMPLETELY DISABLING THE ENGINE. IT MAY BE THEY REPLACE THE FACTORY ORIGINAL PART WITH A PART WHICH WAS DEFECTIVE AND COVERED BY THE RECALL. IN EATHER CASE, A ENGINE ON HEAVY DUTY VEHICLE WHICH QUITS AND DISABLES THE NORMAL BRAKES AND STEERING IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED WITHOUT BEING PROMPTED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO STOP IN A TIMELY MANNER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 246,000.
WHILE OPENING MY REAR LIFTGATE GLASS THE GLASS SEPARATED FROM THE HINGE HOLDING IT IN PLACE. THIS CAUSED A SAFETY CONCERN THAT THE ONLY THING KEEPING MY PASSEGNER COMPARTMENT SAFE WAS THE GLASS.

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS, HOWEVER THE DETAILS OF THE DIAGNOSIS COULD NOT BE PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE REAR LIFTGATE WINDOW, THE WINDOW DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000.
WHILE COMING TO STOP, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. BRAKE LINE ERUPTED AND BRAKE FLUID BEGAN POURING OUT. NO PRESSURE AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. REPAIR COMPLETED, BUT ASE SHOP CONFIRMED THERE IS A SAFETY NOTICE ABOUT RUSTED LINES. AWAITING RECALL.
BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. TRAVELING 35 MPH, I HAD TO BRAKE SUDDENLY AND THE PEDAL SUNK TO THE FLOOR. HAD MINOR RESISTANCE, THEN JUST COMPLETELY GAVE WAY. NO BRAKES! WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN INCIDENT BY VEERING INTO THE ONCOMING LANE THAT WAS LUCKILY VACANT. TURNED ONTO A SIDE STREET TO SAFELY ROLL TO A STOP. TOO SCARED TO DRIVE IT THE REMAINING 1.5 MILES HOME, I HAVE IT TOWED TO A SHOP. ADVISED THAT ALL BRAKE LINES NEED TO BE REPLACED, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH GMC THAT HE HAS SEEN A DOZEN TIMES. THE BRAKE LINES CORRODE, AND EVENTUALLY BURST. ABSURD! TO THINK THIS COULD OF HAPPENED ON A FAMILY ROAD TRIP AT 65MPH... I WILL BUYING A VEHICLE OUTSIDE OF GMC AND THEIR UMBRELLA OF POORLY MADE VEHICLES- ASAP!
HARD BRAKE LINES HAVE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND BRAKE FLUID FLOWS PROFUSELY FROM THE CORRODED LINES. BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR AND VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO STOP. HAD TO PUT INTO NEUTRAL AND USE PARKING BRAKE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS UNAWARE OF ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR KITS TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE AND CORRODED BRAKE LINES ON THESE TRUCK AND SUVS.
THE BRAKE LINES HAVE RUSTED AND AT LEAST 1 HAS RUPTURED LEAVING VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY BRAKES. BRAKE PETAL GOES DIRECTLY TO THE FLOOR AND NO BRAKE FLUID WAS FOUND IN THE MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. I HAVE READ THAT MANY OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE.

I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY ON 04/01/2015 WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER NEARLY CAUSING A WRECK. I PULLED OVER AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER ERROR WAS ILLUMINATED. I TURNED OFF MY TRUCK AND RESTARTED IT, I MANAGED TO MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT OTHER INCIDENT. THE NEXT DAY, IT DID IT AGAIN WHILE ON THE WAY TO THE SHOP. MY MECHANIC NARROWED THE PROBLEM DOWN TO THE ACCELERATOR SENSOR LOCATED ON THE GAS PEDAL. IT WAS REPLACED, BUT I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY AS WELL. WHILE DOING RESEARCH ON THIS, I RAN ACROSS A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM IN NEWER VEHICLES. WHY HASN'T GM RECALLED THIS? DO PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT FIRST BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE?
FAILED BRAKES DUE TO THE CORRODED BRAKE LINES- SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON A 4 LANE STREET. AS I APPROACHED A STOP LIGHT, THE LIGHT CHANGED FROM GREEN TO RED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY DID NOT WORK. I DROVE RIGHT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND AVOIDED A COLLISION WITH 2 OTHER VEHICLES. I WAS GOING DOWNHILL AND PICKING UP SPEED AS I APPROACHED THE NEXT INTERSECTION. THE LIGHT CHANGED TO RED AND BY THIS TIME I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. AS 2 CARS WENT ACROSS IN FRONT OF ME FROM OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS, I WAS SOMEHOW ABLE TO DRIVE BETWEEN THEM. I WAS EVENTUALLY ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF OF THE MAIN ROAD AND INTO A PARKING LOT. I ENDED UP HAVING TO DRIVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO STOP. MY 15 YEAR OLD SON AND I WERE EXTREMELY SHAKEN AND VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT AND SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED AND WE WERE TOLD THAT ALL OF THE BRAKES LINES WERE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT OF THEM. AFTER A $160 TOWING BILL AND A $1,180 REPAIR BILL, WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE 2001 GMC YUKON. THE DEALERSHIP HAD 2 SIMILAR VEHICLES IN THEIR SHOP THAT DAY THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM GENERAL MOTORS NEEDS TO STEP UP AND ADMIT THAT THEY MADE A HUGE MISTAKE WITH THESE BRAKE LINES. THIS COULD HAVE HAD A DIFFERENT OUTCOME. MY SON AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND/OR ANOTHER INNOCENT PERSON COULD HAVE ALSO BEEN KILLED. MY SON SAYS HE WILL NEVER RIDE IN THIS VEHICLE AGAIN. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION BEFORE SOMEBODY DIES, AS A RESULT OF THESE CHEAP STEEL BRAKE LINES THAT CORRODE, ESPECIALLY IN STATES THAT USE SALT ON THEIR ROADS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. *TR
BRAKES WERE WEAK, ALMOST TO FLOOR SO THE CAR WAS TOWED HOME. WHILE SLOWLY BACKING THE CAR INTO DRIVEWAY THE BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY. STEPPED ON EMERGENCY BRAKE AND INTERMEDIATE CABLE BROKE. THE E-BRAKE CABLE FAILED BECAUSE OF RUST AND THE BRAKE LINES TO THE EBCM WHERE THEY GO OVER FRAME ALL FAILED. THE ONLY PART ON THIS CAR THAT HAS RUSTED BEYOND ANYTHING NORMAL ARE THE BRAKE LINES. UNBELIEVABLY RUSTED! WHEN THE BRAKES (E-BRAKE AND BOTH LINES) ALL FAILED THE CAR ROLLED OUT OF CONTROLLED INTO A TREE. THE REAR HATCH GLASS SHATTERED AND I HAD A SORE NECK FOR 5-DAYS. THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM TO THIS CAR WHERE SALT IS USED. THE BRAKES STARTED TO GO WEAK (1-LINE MUST HAVE FAILED) AS MY WIFE APPROACHED A TOLL BOOTH, ONLY LUCK PREVENTED A CATASTROPHIC EVENT FROM HAPPENING. I CAN'T BELIEVE WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED OR THE CAR WAS NOT RECALLED! GM AND THE NHTSA SHAME ON YOU. YOU KNEW OF A SAFETY PROBLEM AND HAVE DONE NOTHING. GM STATING THAT YOU WILL STILL HAVE BRAKES IF THE LINE FAILS IS A WEAK ARGUMENT, YOU HAVE TO PRESS MUCH HARDER AFTER THE FIRST LINE GOES AND THE OTHER LINE IS READY TO FAIL. GUESS WHAT HAPPENS, NO BRAKES. PLEASE HAVE A GM EXECUTIVE DRIVE ONE OF THESE DEATH TRAPS AND HIT THE BRAKES HARD. THE LAST THING THAT SHOULD RUST ARE THE BRAKE LINES. A LITTLE COMMON SENSE GOES A LONG WAY. *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
INITIALLY TRAVELING AT 75 MPH N/B ON HWY 99 IN FRESNO COUNTY, LOST VISION (MEDICAL INCIDENT), WIFE INSISTED I PULL OVER. STRUCK GUARD RAIL ON RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD. SECOND TRY TO PULL OVER CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO IMPACT A VERIZON JUNCTION BOX AND THEN150 FEET OF SIX-FOOT CHAIN-LINK FENCING WITH ANTI-CLIMB GUARDS THAT CAME OFF THE FENCE AND SHATTERED THE WINDSHIELD. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MY INSURANCE AGENT TOLD ME HE WAS GOING TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT TO YOU, BUT SINCE I HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING FROM YOU FOLK I'VE ASSUMED MY AGENT DID NOT FOLLOW THROUGH. MY WIFE AND I SUSTAINED ONLY MINOR INJURIES FROM FLYING GLASS. WE HAVE PHOTO'S OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
APPLIED BRAKES TO STOP IN A PARKING LOT. BRAKE PEDAL HELD BRIEFLY THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR. MINIMAL STOPPING ABILITY AT THAT POINT. NARROWLY MISSED A SUBURBAN WHICH BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF ME. ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED. REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF ALL LINES. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND THIS IS THE SECOND FAILURE WITH LOSS OF BRAKES. THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. *TR
TIRES WERE PURCHASED SEPT. 25, 2009 AND NOW HAVE EXTENSIVE WEATHER CRACKING. COSTCO REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TIRES WHEN I REPORTED THE QUALITY DEFECT IN AUGUST, 2014, JUST 59 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. I HAVE APPEALED THAT DECISION AND EXPECT TO FIND OUT TOMORROW IF THEY WILL MAKE GOOD ON THE DEFECTIVE TIRES. THEY CLAIM THAT ALTHOUGH THERE IS WEATHER CRACKING THAT THE TIRES ARE SAFE. I DOUBT THEY WOULD USE CRACKED TIRES LIKE THAT ON THE VEHICLE CARRYING THEIR OWN FAMILY. *TR
WHEN EXITING MY DRIVEWAY I WENT DOWN THE STREET TO THE STOP SIGN , WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKE THE PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP. IT WAS GOOD THAT I WASN'T GOING FASTER. WHEN I TOOK MY TRUCK ( YOUKON ) TO THE REPAIR SHOP I EXPLAINED THE ISSUE TO THE REPAIR MAN. I GOT HOME AND HE CALLED ME BACK AND ASKED ME TO RETURN TO THE SHOP TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE TRUCKS PROBLEMS. WHEN RETURNING TO THE SHOP THE TRUCK WAS LIFTED UP AND HE SHOWED ME THE BRAKE LINES AND THE GAS LINES THAT WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . HE ALSO EXPLAINED THE TIME AND LABOR INVOLVED. I WAS SURPRISED OF HOW MUCH LABOR AND TIME WAS INVOLVED TO REPAIR THESE ISSUES . HE SAID THE COST INCLUDING PARTS AND LABOR WILL BE ABOUT 2,500. TO 3,000. DOLLARS, THAT IS IF HE DIDN'T COME ACROSS ANY OTHER PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SEIZED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A CRUSHED PELVIS IN THREE AREAS, LEFT LEG AND ANKLE NERVE DAMAGE AND DISLOCATED RIGHT SHOULDER. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED A BROKEN LEFT LEG AND ANKLE, BROKEN JAW AND FRONT AND SIDE TEETH WERE KNOCKED OUT WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
COMING TO A STOP SIGN THE BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT ON THE LEFT REAR RESULTING IN THE TRUCK NOT STOPPING AND ROLLING THROUGH A STOP SIGN. HAD THERE BEEN A CHILD ON A BIKE, A PERSON WALKING OR ANOTHER VEHICLE COMING THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION BY A MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT ALL MY BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED OUT AND NEED TO BE CHANGED. IM STILL WAITING FOR A QUOTE BUT ITS SAID TO BE OVER $1500! A RUSTED REAR BRAKE LINE BURST RESULTING IN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. *TR
WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND MY TRUCK ROLLED INTO THE INTERSECTION. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT AFTER I WAS HALFWAY IN THE INTERSECTION. I FOUND OUT THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE ABOVE THE FUEL TANK ROTTED AWAY. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE BOTH STEEL LINES TO THE REAR WHEELS AND THE TWO STEEL LINE TO THE FRONT REPLACED. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING NORTH UP THE SAW MILL PARKWAY FROM BRONX NY. THIS PARKWAY IS TWO LANES WITH 3-4 LIGHTS DEPENDING WHERE YOU GET ON, SO I HAD 3 LIGHTS GOING NORTH. AT THE FIRST LIGHT I NOTICE THE BRAKES WERE WEEK. SECOND LIGHT HAD THE SAME NO PRESSURE BRAKE PEDDLE, AND THEN THE THIRD LIGHT I HAD NO PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE COULDN'T STOP AT THE RED LIGHT AND HAD SEEN THE CARS COMING FROM THE LEFT INTO THE INTERSECTION SO THAT MADE ME SWERVE HARD TO THE RIGHT AND FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE LINE BLEW AND FLUID WAS LEAKING ALL OVER. I HAD BOTH OF MY DAUGHTERS, BROTHER IN-LAW, AND A FRIENDS SON IN THE TRUCK GOING TO A FAMILY PARTY IN CONNECTICUT AROUND 12PM.I HAD A COUPLE THINGS GOING FOR ME OTHER THAN BEING LUCKY, A GOOD DRIVER AND KNOWING THE HIGHWAY VERY WELL. I MADE IT TO THE MECHANIC SHOP AND SAW THAT ALL MY BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED UP THAT THE MECHANIC DIDN'T WANT TO TOUCH THE OTHERS CAUSE THEY MIGHT BE VERY BRITTLE AND WILL BREAK VERY EASY. THIS TRUCK IS NOT MY MAIN VEHICLE AND IS IN VERY GOOD SHAPE TILL I LOOKED UNDERNEATH. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT BRAKED SUDDENLY. I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL QUICKLY AND FIRMLY TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, AND THE BRAKES WORKED NORMALLY. A HALF MILE OR SO LATER, AT AN INTERSECTION, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES GRADUALLY, THE PEDAL WAS SOFT AND WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, ONLY BARELY STOPPING THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT ENTERED THE INTERSECTION. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME (ABOUT A MILE) SLOWLY AND CAUTIOUSLY AND INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID COATING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND WHAT APPEARED TO BE RUST OR CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES WHERE THEY CROSSED THE FRAME NEAR THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL AXLE. *TR
PULLING INTO THE DRIVEWAY UNDER NORMAL, DRY CONDITIONS, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR, AND THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH ILLUMINATED. WE CAME A FEW FEET FROM CRASHING THROUGH THE GARAGE DOOR. THIS WAS A RESULT OF THE DRIVER'S REAR BRAKE LINE SPRINGING A LEAK WITH NO WARNING WHATSOEVER. THE AFFECTED PART IS THE FORMED METAL LINE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE TOP OF THE AXLE. IT APPEARS THAT THE BRAKE LINE JUST RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. IT IS LIKELY THAT ALL OTHER BRAKE LINES COULD BE AFFECTED IN THE EXACT SAME MANNER. *TR
WAS DRIVING AND A POLICE CAR PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME FROM A SHOPPING CENTER. I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND A REAR BRAKE LINE BURST. I STOPPED ABOUT 1 FOOT FROM THE POLICE CRUISER. HAD ENOUGH FLUID LEFT IN SYSTEM TO GET OFF THE ROAD. HAD LINES INSPECTED WITHIN THE LAST 6 MONTHS AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THEY WERE BAD. HAD TO REPLACE BOTH REAR BRAKE LINES. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 173,000.
ANTILOCK BRAKES FAILED; WARNING LIGHT ON DASH AFTER INCIDENT. *TR
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ON MY 2001 YUKON. A SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINE LEADING TO PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BRAKE FAILED. POINT OF FAILURE WAS AT THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RADIATOR. DURING REMOVAL OF THE FAILED LINE FROM IT'S MOUNTING CLIP ON THE VEHICLE FRAME THE BRAKE LINE LEADING TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT BRAKE WAS BUMPED CAUSING IT TO BREAK AS WELL. ON CLOSER INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ALL BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED TO THE POINT THEY WERE READY TO FAIL AND ALL LINES REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. *TR
