BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH DECREASED STOPPING ABILITY. SHOP FOUND CORRODED BRAKE LINES WITH FLUID LEAKING. ALL LINES HEAVILY CORRODED AND ARE CURRENTLY BEING REPLACED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND MY BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. I BARELY AVOIDED COLLISION WITH A CAR. CAR GOT TOWED TO MECHANICS. LUCKILY NO ONE GOT HURT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2001 DENALI XL MY BRAKES FAILED AND WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT IN TRAFFIC. ONCE I CREPT HOME I WAS ABLE TO SEE THE UNDER CARRIAGE AND THERE WERE LARGE AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON ALL THE EQUIPMENT. CAR IS STILL LAID UP UNTIL I CAN AFFORD REPAIRED. *TR
VEHICLE ROLLS WHILE IN PARK. HAD PARKING PAWL REPLACED, PROBLEM PERSISTED. PROBLEM IS MORE OBVIOUS THE GREATER THE INCLINE. VEHICLE IS NOT FREEWHEELING BUT HAS SOME RESISTANCE.
WHILE ON A HILL HOLDING THE VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKES ACTIVATED, A LARGE AMOUNT OF WHITE SMOKE CAME BILLOWING OUT OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT THE FLUID WAS CLEAR AND DRIPPING ON THE HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE BRAKE RESERVOIR DROPPED WITH SUCCESSIVE BRAKE APPLICATIONS. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR FACILITY, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MULTIPLE FIXED METAL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODING AND ONE HAD ENOUGH TO CORROSION TO CAUSE A FAILURE OF THE METAL CAUSING A LEAKING BREAK LINE. ALL FIXED METAL BRAKE LIES WERE REPLACE AT A VERY HIGH EXPENSE DUE TO THE LABOR TO INSTALL THE NEW LINES. PART WERE ONLY A FRACTION OF THE LABOR TO INSTALL NEW BRAKE LINES ALONG THE BODY FRAMING. IRONICALLY, THE REPAIR SHOP OWNER HAD A 2500 SERIES GM PICKUP TRUCK WHICH EXPERIENCE THE SAME BRAKE LINE FAILURES JUST MONTHS BEFORE. IN ALL MY YEARS OF VEHICLE OWNERSHIP, I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE OF A FIXED METAL BRAKE LINE. THEY ARE USUALLY MAKE OF MATERIALS WHICH PREVENT CORROSION OF THE METAL AND THEREFORE REMAIN USEFUL FOR STOPPING THE VEHICLE THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE USEFUL LIFE.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH WHEN I BEGAN TO SMELL SMOKE. AT FIRST I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS JUST OIL SPILLED ON EXHAUST SYSTEM. THEN THE SMOKE GOT WORSE AND HAD A TERRIBLE ODOR. I LOOKED DOWN AT THE CENTER CONSOLE AND SMOKE WAS COMING OUT FROM AROUND THE EDGES AND THE ASH TRAY AREA. I STARTED LOOKING FOR A PULLOFF AS I WAS ON A COUNTRY ROAD. AS I FOUND ONE FIRE STARTED COMING UP THROUGH THE GAPS. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT I HAD A FIRE THAT WAS GOING TO DESTROY THE VEHICLE. SO, ONCE I WAS STOPPED I LOOKED FOR MY FIRE EXTINGUISHER BUT COULDN'T FIND IT AND THEN I REMEMBERED THAT I HAD BOTTLED WATER IN THE VEHICLE. I GRABBED 4 OF THEM AND WENT BACK TO THE DRIVERS SIDE AND BEGAN TO POUR WATER DOWN THROUGH THE OPENING IN THE CONSOLE THAT HAD BEEN CAUSED BY THE FIRE MELTING IT. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT QUICKLY. I THEN PUT ON GLOVES AND REMOVED THE TOP PART OF THE CONSOLE THAT HAD BEEN MOSTLY DESTROYED BY THE FIRE. IN LOOKING INTO THE BOTTOM IT APPEARS THAT SMALL BITS OF PAPER, RECEIPTS, ETC. HAD FALLEN DOWN ONTO THE WIRING HARNESS BELOW. MY GUESS IS THAT SINCE I HAD PLUGGED MY XM RADIO INTO THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER IT HAD HEATED UP THE WIRES WHICH HAD HEATED UP THE PAPERS UNTIL THEY BEGAN TO BURN. I CONSIDER THIS A FLAW IN THE DESIGN OF THE CONSOLE, THE CAUSE BEING THE CRACKS IN THE CONSOLE/ASH TRAY WHICH WOULD ALLOW PAPER OBJECTS TO FALL ONTO THE WIRING HARNESS BELOW AND CAUSE A FIRE. THE FIRE MELTED ABOUT SIX INCHES OF INSULATION OFF THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE WIRES TOUCHING EACH OTHER RESULTED IN FUSES BEING BLOWN. THE VEHICLE IS STILL DRIVABLE BUT AS OF THIS WRITING DOES NOT HAVE OVERHEAD LIGHTS AND DASHBOARD LIGHTING AVAILABLE & THEIR IS AN INTERMITTENT IGNITION ISSUE. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND A REPLACEMENT WIRING HARNESS BUT SUSPECT THAT WHEN I DO IT WILL COST AN ARM AND A LEG. I AM TRYING TO REPAIR THE WIRING BY REINSULATING EACH WIRE AND THEN RE-BUNDLING THEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND REAR BRAKE LINES FAILED BECAUSE OF RUST. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 200,000.
AT HOME, STARTED TRUCK, DROVE SHORT DISTANCE ON DRIVEWAY AND APPLIED BRAKES. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. SAW PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID ON DRIVER'S SIDE MID WAY BELOW TRUCK. COULD HEAR BRAKE FLUID ESCAPING WHEN BRAKES APPLIED (PUMPING), THEN SAW FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDER TRUCK. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER, WHO FOUND BRAKE LINE LEAKING ABOVE FUEL TANK AND NOTED ALL BRAKE LINES VERY RUSTY (EXCEPT LINE ABOVE REAR AXLE, WHICH HAD BEEN REPLACED ON 2012). DEALER FABRICATED AND REPLACED ALL BRAKE LINES FROM FRT TO JUNCTION ABOVE SPARE TIRE. *TR
ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES DURING BRAKING, MAKING THE VEHICLE ALMOST UNABLE TO COMPLETELY STOP. WHEN CALLING GMC, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALLS. *TR
OUR DASHBOARD ABS INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN WE SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF, A BUZZING MOTOR SOUND STILL KEPT RUNNING. WE UNPLUGGED THE BATTERY SO IT WOULD NOT RUN DOWN. WE LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND A TON OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME INCIDENTS. WE NOTICED THAT MANY OF THE PEOPLE WHO EXPERIENCED THE EXACT PROBLEMS WE WERE HAVING, ALSO HAD BRAKE ISSUES WHILE DRIVING. WE RECONNECTED OUR BATTERY, DISCONNECTED THE ABS MODULE AND THE MOTOR SOUND STOPPED, BUT NOW WE DON'T HAVE THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS? IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT IS A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR MANY PEOPLE AND BECAUSE IT INVOLVES THE BRAKE SYSTEM IT SEEMS VERY DANGEROUS. ACCORDING TO OTHER PEOPLE IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR AS WELL (APPROX. $1500.00). HAS GMC ADDRESSED THIS? WE HAVE A SUBURBAN YUKON XL, 2001. *TR
DRIVING VEHICLE AT APPROX 45MPH, CAME TO STOP AT RED LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN AND NOTHING. DOWN SHIFTED TRANSMISSION TO SLOW DOWN AND PRESSED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LIFTED THE HOOD NO BRAKE FLUID IN REAR SECTION OF MASTER CYLINDER. NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING UNDER THE FRONT OF THE DRIVERS DOOR ON THE GROUND. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE LINE WAS DRIPPING FLUID. THE BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND THE FRAME IS REALLY RUSTED. JUST GOT THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GMC SHOP FOR ROUTINE SERVICE. CAN'T FIGURE WHY THEY DIDN'T NOTICE OR AT LEAST TELL ME THAT I MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM.I CALLED THEM AND ADVISE WHAT ISSUE I WAS HAVING. THEY ADVISED THAT GM WOULD NOT COVE THE ISSUE AND 1300.00 WOULD MAYBE COVER THE LINE REPLACEMENT PLUS. I AM NOT HAPPY. WORKED HARD TO BUY THIS VEHICLE AND NOW THAT I AM RETIRED FROM THE MILITARY I REALLY DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPLACE THE LINES AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE RUSTY FRAME. *TR
I NEEDED TO SLOW DOWN ON THE BELT PARKWAY AND WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES, THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. FIGURING I MAY HAVE SOME BRAKES, I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AGAIN. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE OTHER THAN A SICKENING FEELING THAT I WOULD REAR-END SOMEONE. TO SLOW DOWN, I DROPPED THE GEAR SHIFTER TO LOWER DRIVE POSITIONS AND PUT ON THE 4-WAY FLASHERS. UPON EXITING THE PARKWAY, I WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP FOR THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS AHEAD OF ME AND THERE WAS AN UPHILL GRADE TO SLOW ME. VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM REVEALED HYDRAULIC FLUID SOAKING THE AREA OF THE REAR DIFERENTIAL ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. A HARD STEEL BRAKE LINE WAS SEVERLY RUSTED AND FRAGILE TO THE POINT OF RUPTURE. THERE WAS STILL SOME FLUID IN THE MASTER BRAKE RESERVOIR. *TR
BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED WHILE DRIVING. BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH. PUMPED BRAKES TO GET SLOWED DOWN AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED. EXITED VEHICLE ON DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND FOUND FLUID PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. UPON PUMPING THE BRAKES WHILE STOPPED, I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID SQUIRTING OUT UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE HOME, I HAVE CONFIRMED A SEVERELY CORRODED METAL BRAKE LINE HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKEN OPEN. *TR
GM MECHANIC EXPERIENCED BRAKE LINE FAILURE OF REAR LINE DURING A STATE INSPECTION, AFTER REAR LINE WAS REPAIRED, FRONT BRAKE LINES FAILED ON THE GM MECHANIC DURING A TEST DRIVE AT HIGHWAY SPEED. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE DETERMINED IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF REPLACEMENT AS WELL AS FRONT CALIBERS.. *TR
ABS LIGHT CAME ON WHEN BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. DROVE 3 MILES TO A MEETING. WHEN IGNITION TURNED OFF THE LIGHT WENT OUT BUT I COULD HEAR A HUM. UNABLE TO LOCATE SOURCE OF HUM. SPENT 5 HOURS IN MEETING AND HUM WAS STILL PRESENT. CAR STARTED OK BUT ABS LIGHT CAME BACK ON. LATE IN DAY SO I TOOK TO LOCAL FIRESTONE SERVICE. THEY DETERMINED IT WAS THE ABS PUMP. IT WAS SO HOT IT BLISTERED MY FINGER WHEN I TOUCHED IT. TAPPED ON PUMP HOUSING TO GET IT TO GO OFF BUT NO SUCCESS. ONLY WAY TO STOP PUMP WAS TO REMOVE FUSE FROM FUSEBLOCK UNDER HOOD. I AM GLAD I DISCOVERED THIS. IF IT HAD BEEN MY WIFE THE CAR MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE BEEN PUT BACK IN OUR GARAGE WITHOUT NOTICE OF THE HUM. MAY HAVE CAUGHT FIRE. ARE THERE ANY EXAMPLES OF THIS MODEL, OR OTHER MODELS HAVING SAME OR SIMILAR ABS PUMP AND ABS COMPUTER, CATCHING FIRE? THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CIRCUIT LOGIC. IT SHOULD "FAIL SAFE", I.E. DETECT THIS MALFUNCTION AND DISCONNECT POWER. THE PART HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED; IT HAS JUST BEEN DISABLED BY REMOVING FUSE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON 2500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE AFTER IT HAD BEEN SITTING 4 DAYS IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THE BRAKES AND POWER STEERING HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
BRAKE LINE JUST STARTED LEAKING WHILE IN THE DRIVE WAY. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. *TR
THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATES MOST EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, ESPECIALLY IF THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED WHILE THE WHEELS ARE TURNED. THIS CAUSES EXTENDED BRAKING DISTANCES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING LOCALLY,WHEN I USED MY BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AS I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT I DID NOT HAVE PROPERLY FUNCTIONING BRAKES,PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR,I USED EMERGENCY BRAKE THIS PREVENTED ME FROM HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THIS OCCURRED IN AUGUST,2012.BRAKE LINES WERE DETERMINED TO HAVE RUSTED OUT,BRAKES FAILED ,A $444 REPAIR WAS NEEDED. IN NOVEMBER 2013 A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH MY SON DRIVING. THIS RESULTED IN A $ 1111 DOLLAR REPAIR BILL. AND TODAY JULY 8 2014 WHILE BACKING OUT ONTO STREET ANOTHER BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED BILL TO BE DETERMINED ? *TR UPDATED 3/18/2015 *JS
MY BRAKE LINE RUPTURED ON ROUTE 287 IN NEW JERSEY WHEN I NEEDED TO BRAKE BEHIND A STOPPING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. MY FOOT WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO STOPPING POWER. GM INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED IT HAD MULTIPLE FLAWS IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND NEEDED TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 287 NORTH, IN MORRISTOWN, NJ WHEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SHORT AND I NEEDED TO APPLY MY BRAKES. WHEN I USED MY BRAKE PEDAL, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR AND I COULD NOT STOP. I WAS ABLE TO AVOID THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME, AND I SWERVED TO AVOID OTHER CARS. I ROLLED TO A STOP ON THE GRASS SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND FOUND A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE CAR. AFTER INSPECTION OF THE BRAKES DONE BY A CERTIFIED GM MECHANIC, HE FOUND THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES IN THE CAR BURST OPEN DUE TO HEAVY CORROSION LEADING TO THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM. HIS RECOMMENDATION WAS TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES IN THE VEHICLE AS NONE OF THEM WERE ABLE TO BE SALVAGED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY YUKON IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN I FOUND IT NECESSARY TO ATTEMPT A PANIC STOP. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND FELT SOMTHING GIVE WAY AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I ATTEMPTED APPLYING THE BRAKES AGAIN AND AGAIN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I NURSED THE VEHICLE TO A PARKING LOT AND LOOKED UNDERNEATH AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM THE FRAME ON THE DRIVERS SIDE JUST BEFORE THE REAR WHEEL. I INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES AND FOUND THEM TO BE VERY CORRODED AND THE ONE LINE LEADING TO THE REAR BRAKES WAS SPLIT OPEN. I HAVE SINCE REPLACED THE BRAKE LINE FROM THE ABS UNIT UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT TO THE JUNCTION NEAR THE SPARE WHEEL. I HAVE INSPECTED THE OTHER BRAKE LINES AND FOUND THEY ARE CORRODED ALSO. *JS
I NOTICED WET SPOTS ON THE ROAD UNDER THE TRUCK NEAR THE LEFT REAR WHEEL AFTER STOPPING. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED IN MOST PLACES. THERE IS CURRENTLY A LEAK IN THE FEED LINE RUNNING TO THE BACK BRAKES AT A POINT NEAR THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THE LINES LOOK AS IF THEY COULD FAIL IN MOST PLACES. CURRENTLY THE TRUCK IS NOTS DRIVABLE UNTIL THE BRAKE LINES ARE REPLACED. WE HAVE HAD OTHER NUMEROUS BRAKE ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE AS WELL. *JS
I RECENTLY NOTICED THAT MY SPARE TIRE WAS MISSING. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE SEAR AUTO CENTER THAT HAS BEEN SERVICING IT. WHEN THEY LOOKED UNDER THE CAR THEY SAID THAT IT WAS COMMON FOR THE YUKON SPARE TIRE CABLE TO RUST AND SNAP OFF. SO I LOST THE SPARE TIRE, SPARE WHEEL, AND CABLE SYSTEM TO HOLD THE SPARE UNDER THE VEHICLE. NOT SURE WHERE OR WHEN IT HAPPENED, BUT IT WAS IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS COMPLAINT SERVICE. HAVE ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AND ROTORS A NUMBER OF TIMES (AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT), AND HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE A/C UNIT REPAIRED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD THE WRONG CONTROL HEAD. ALSO, WHENEVER I HIT A BUMP I MOMENTARILY LOSE POWER STEERING. *TR
PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT,AND DROVE DOWN A STREET. AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN AND STARTED TO SLOW DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR,AND I WENT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AVOIDING CARS AND THEN SLAMMING INTO A CURB TO TRY TO STOP THIS BIG SUV WITH NO BRAKE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST REPAIR SHOP ,AND THEN I WAS INFORMED THAT NOT JUST THE ONE BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT,BUT ALL WERE RUSTING OUT AND COULD BREAK ANY DAY NOW. SINCE DAY ONE THIS SUV WAS SERVICED AT A GMC DEALER,AND NOT EVEN 7 DAYS JUST WENT BY IT WAS AT THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND NOT ONCE DID ANYONE MENTION THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THIS SUV WAS AT THE DEALER AT LEAST 3 TO 4 TIMES A YEAR AND THEY NEVER MENTION THE PROBLEMS. *TR
(RECALL 05V-379) ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS NOW. WE HAVE TAKEN TO NUMEROUS MECHANICS TO NO AVAIL. NOW AFTER LOOKING INTO RECALLS, I FIND THAT THERE ACTUALLY WAS A SOLUTION, BUT WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED BECAUSE WE DON'T LIVE IN THE CORRECT AREA OF THE COUNTRY. BUT WE DO LIVE CLOSE TO THE AFFECTED AREA. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED ONLY 3 YEARS AFTER IT WAS MADE. THIS VEHICLE COULD HAVE BEEN IN THE AFFECTED AREA PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE. WE WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER DROVE THIS VEHICLE TO SCHOOL AND DROPPED OFF OUR 8 YEAR OLD TO SCHOOL FOR TWO YEARS. THIS RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN EXPANDED SO THAT I WAS AWARE OF IT TO KEEP MY FAMILY SAFE. *TR
I PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK INTO THE DRIVEWAY. UPON INSPECTION, I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE JUNCTION BEHIND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL IS LEAKING DUE TO CORROSION. *TR
BRAKE LINES FAILED DUE TO RUST WHILE DRIVING ON A BACK ROAD. LUCKY FOR ME I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY YET AND WAS ABLE TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. AFTER LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT ALL OF THE LINES WERE AT THE POINT WHERE THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF THE TRUCK. IS HELD ON BY A HOIST AND CABLE SYSTEM. THE CABLE BROKE ALLOWING THE TIRE TO FALL TO THE GROUND. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE WAS BEING BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE AND NOT GOING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL FOR MY FAMILY OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD! SO FAR I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND GMC. THEY WANT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW DO NOT WANT TO COVER THE PART BECAUSE ITS MORE THAN SEVEN YEARS OLD. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THIS PART FAILED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURY TO MY FAMILY AND OR OTHERS. INCIDENT HAPPENED THIS MORNING ON 12/9/11. *TR
AS VEHICLE IS SLOWING TO A STOP, THE ABS ENGAGES LIFTS THE BRAKE PEDAL, ESSENTIALLY ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FORWARD, AND REQUIRING A QUICK REACTION TO STRONGLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY AND CORRODED ABS SPEED SENSOR, WHICH HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THESE VEHICLES FROM 2002, BUT THE RECALL DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2001 YEAR. ANOTHER KNOWN ISSUE IS FAULTY ABS MODULES IN THESE VEHICLES WHICH TURN ON THE DASHBOARD BRAKE AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS PERIODICALLY ALTHOUGH THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR ABS. *TT
I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON MY VEHICLE IN THE DRIVEWAY AND FELT A POP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE PEDAL A FEW TIMES AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR EACH TIME. I LOOKED AROUND THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR. I FELT AROUND THE FRAME WHERE THE LEAK WAS AND FELT A VERY CORRODED BRAKE LINE. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT MANY GM TRUCK OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND THERE IS AN NHTSA INVESTIGATION AND ENGINEERING ANALYSIS. I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF GM IS GOING TO RECALL THESE TRUCKS FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
THE BRAKE LINES ARE SO CORRODED THERE ARE HOLES IN THEM AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM. I AM LUCKY THAT NO ONE GOT INJURED. *TR
SLOW SPEED STOP APPROACHING A LOCKED GATE. BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED. PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKE PRESSURE. BRAKE PEDAL WAS PUMPED TWICE WITH THE FINAL APPLICATION LOCKING ONE REAR WHEEL. THE ABOVE VEHICLE STOPPED WITHIN 2 FEET OF STRIKING A METAL SECURITY GATE. BRAKE FLUID WAS OBSERVED DRIPPING FROM UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE COMPARTMENT ON TO THE GROUND. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. MECHANIC FOUND THAT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE RUST ON ALL METAL BRAKE TUBING. ONE OF THE METAL BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE ABS PUMP COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH CAUSING LOSS OF ALL BRAKE PRESSURE AND BRAKE FAILURE. ALL METAL BRAKE LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. BEFORE AND AFTER THE INCIDENT THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATOR LIGHTS THAT WERE ACTIVATED ON THE DASH. *TT
I USUALLY OPEN THE WHOLE TAILGATE TO ACCESS THE REAR CARGO AREA, HOWEVER SINCE I WAS TOWING A TRAILER I OPENED THE REAR GLASS TO RETRIEVE AN ITEM. WHEN I PUSHED DOWN TO CLOSE THE REAR GLASS, I NOTICED THAT THE GLASS DID NOT FIT TO CLOSE PROPERLY. I OPENED THE GLASS AND SAW THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE HINGE ON THE REAR GLASS WAS BROKEN AND PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE REAR GLASS. THIS RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION, AS THE REAR GLASS IS NOW SECURED TO THE TRUCK WITH A SINGLE HINGE AND THE LATCH. I AM WORRIED THAT IF I DRIVE THE TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY THE WHOLE REAR GLASS WILL HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND INJURE DRIVERS BEHIND ME. USING A PLASTIC HINGE AT A POINT UNDER HEAVY LOAD SEEMS LIKE AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. *KB

I HEARD A SLIGHT GRINDING NOISE, THAT SOUNDED LIKE A BRAKE DRAGGING. I REPLACED BRAKES ALL THE WAY AROUND, AND THAT DIDN'T STOP THE NOISE. ON JUNE 11, 2011 I DROVE MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL FROM CARLE PLACE NY TO SUMMIT NJ. THE TRIP CONSISTED OF MAINLY HIGHWAY MILEAGE. EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE UNTIL I REACHED MY DESTINATION. I MADE A LEFT INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. I PULLED INTO A SPOT AND JAMMED ON THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE ROLLED AND HOPPED THE CURB AND BUMPED INTO A FENCE. I BROKE A FEW BOARDS. I PUT THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL, ROLLED BACK INTO THE SPOT, AND USED THE PARKING\EMERGENCY BREAK TO STOP. I GOT OUT, OPEN THE HOOD AND SAW I WAS LOW ON BRAKE FLUID. I LOOKED DOWN AND THERE WAS A LARGE PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER MY VEHICLE. I LOOKED UNDER AND SAW BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING OUT. I REACHED UNDER TO SEE WHERE THE DRIP WAS COMING FROM. IT APPEARS THE LINE BURST. CALLED AAA AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED BACK TO NY. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, I NOTICED ALL THE BREAK LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED. IT WAS A MATTER OF TIME THE OTHER LINES WOULD FAIL. IF I DROVE ANOTHER MILE IN NJ I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THANK GOD I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THIS DEFINITELY NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED. THERE SHOULD BE A HIGH STANDARD WHEN IT COMES TO BRAKES. STOPPING A VEHICLE IS MORE CRITICAL THAN MAKING IT MOVE. I CALLED GMC AND THEY SAID NO RECALLS EXIST FOR MY VEHICLE. THEY'RE SOLUTION IS TO VISIT A SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIR. 99% SURE I WILL BE EATING THIS EXPENSE. *TR
WAS DRIVING DOWN A STRETCH OF STRAIGHT ROAD IN WARRENTON, VIRGINIA WHEN I WENT TO PRESS THE BUTTON THAT CHANGES THE DISPLAY NEAR THE ODOMETER FROM "ODOMETER," "TRIP 1" MILES, AND "TRIP 2" MILES. THE PROBLEM OCCURS IN THE 1500 SERIES AS WELL WHY WAS THERE NOT A RECALL FOR THIS SERIES WHICH I HAVE AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH? I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT WHILE EXECUTING LOW SPEED STOPS (CITY DRIVING, STOP AND GO TRAFFIC) MY ABS SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE AND THE PUMP COULD BE HEARD AND FELT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS OCCURRED IN ALL TYPES OF DRIVING CONDITIONS, PARTICULARLY ON DRY PAVEMENT AND AT LOW SPEEDS, WHERE ABS IS NOT NEEDED. THE RESULT OF THIS ABS ACTIVATION WAS DECREASED STOPPING POWER AT UNPREDICTABLE TIMES. THIS CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD AND ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I ENDED UP DEACTIVATING MY ABS SYSTEM COMPLETELY TO CREATE A RELIABLE BRAKING SYSTEM. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR REPAIR THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL, HOWEVER MY VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF ANY RECALL. *KB
WE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM ON OUR YUKON AND THE DEALER INSISTS THAT IT IS AN ISOLATED CASE BUT I HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO BRAKE WITH MUCH RELIANCE ON THE ABS SYSTEM. BY THIS I MEAN THAT THE 2001 GMC YUKON DOES NOT HAVE A BRAKE PROPORTIONING VALVE THAT WILL REDIRECT BRAKING FORCE TOWARDS THE FRONT BRAKES AS THE VEHICLE MASS SHIFTS FORWARD UNDER BRAKING LOADS. THIS IN TURN CAUSES THE REAR BRAKES TO LOCK UP PREMATURELY UNDER MODERATE TO HEAVY BRAKE APPLICATION. IT HAS NEARLY CAUSED OUR SUV TO ROLL-OVER ON ONE OCCASION AND FRANKLY, WE'RE AFRAID TO SIMPLY SELL IT AND PASS THE LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM ONTO SOMEONE ELSE. I AM DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED WITH GMC FOR NOT ADDRESSING THIS DEADLY PROBLEM IN THE WESTERN STATES AND ONLY CLAIMING THAT "SNOW BELT" STATE VEHICLES ARE AFFECTED. VEHICLE LOST BRAKING ACTION AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY, ABOUT ONCE A WEEK OVER A ONE MONTH PERIOD. VEHICLE HAD ADEQUATE BRAKE FLUID. NO DASH INDICATOR LIGHTS INDICATED A BRAKE OR ABS PROBLEM. NO COLLISION OCCURRED, NO INJURIES OCCURRED, DUE TO LACK OF TRAFFIC AND ADEQUATE STOPPING DISTANCE. REPAIR SHOP NOTIFIED CUSTOMER MANY SIMILAR VEHICLES WERE COVERED BY AN ABS BRAKE RECALL. GM WAS CONTACTED AND SAID THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP AND DIAGNOSED WITH AN ABS SENSOR FAILURE AT LOW SPEED ON THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL. PARTS WILL BE SAVED. PUBLISHED RECALL DOCUMENTS INDICATE SEVERAL STATES, INCLUDING THE STATE OF MISSOURI WERE INVOLVED WITH THIS RECALL. THIS VEHICLE CAME FROM A MISSOURI, GMC DEALER, WAS SOLD BY A KANSAS, GMC DEALER. THIS VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN EXTENSIVELY IN THE KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI METROPOLITAN AREA. *TR
RECURRENCE OF ANTILOCK-BRAKE PROBLEM WHICH WAS CAUSE OF AN EARLIER GM RECALL OF THIS SAME VEHICLE. EARLIER RECALL RESULTED IN A 1.5 HOUR TASK TO REMOVE, CLEAN AND RE-INSTALL ABS SENSOR WITH A RUST-PREVENTATIVE APPLIED. THE SAME PROBLEM IS RECURRING NOW AND GM CUSTOMER SUPPORT REFUSES TO RE-ADDRESS THE PROBLEM ON MY VEHICLE. BACKGROUND: IN APRIL 2005, THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION OPENED AN INVESTIGATION OF MORE THAN 1.2 MILLION GM PICKUPS AND SUVS IN 20 STATES BECAUSE OF QUESTIONS OVER THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. IN 2005, GM SPOKESMAN ALAN ADLER SAID ROAD GRIME CAN WEDGE ITS WAY INTO A PLASTIC PIECE THAT COVERS THE ABS SENSOR NEAR THE WHEEL HUB, RESULTING IN SALT CORROSION. THE CORROSION LEADS THE SENSORS TO ACTIVATE THE ABS SYSTEM AT SPEEDS OF 3.7 MILES PER HOUR TO 10 MPH, REQUIRING A LONGER STOPPING DISTANCE. GM SAID THERE HAVE BEEN 228 CRASHES REPORTED THROUGH THE END OF MAY 2005, INCLUDING 10 MINOR INJURIES. THE COMPANY RECALLED ABOUT 150,000 PICKUPS IN EASTERN CANADA IN NOVEMBER 2004 FROM THE SAME MODEL YEARS BECAUSE OF THE CONDITION IN THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. ADLER SAID THE COMPANY DECIDED TO ISSUE THE 2005 RECALL IN 14 STATES BASED UPON INCIDENT RATES. GM AND THE GOVERNMENT HAVE RECEIVED MORE THAN 700 COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE PROBLEM.

PUT TRUCK ON FLOOR JACK, PULLED WHEEL. APPLIED BRAKE, OBSERVED BRAKE FLUID SQUIRT FROM PINHOLE IN SEVERELY CORRODED BRAKE LINE (THE LINE ATTACHED TO THE TOP OF THE REAR AXLE ON DRIVER SIDE). THE HOLE IS LOCATED IN THE STEEL BRAKE LINE WHERE IT JOINS THE JUNCTION WITH THE FLEXIBLE HOSE AND THE STEEL LINE RUNNING TO THE OPPOSITE WHEEL (NEAR CENTER OF REAR AXLE). WILL REPLACE LINE TODAY, WILL KEEP OLD PART (CORRODED LINE) AVAILABLE. ALL OTHER STEEL BRAKE LINES HAVE RUST IN PLACES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED DUE TO THE LACK OF FUEL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED THE TANK AS HALF FULL ALTHOUGH THE FUEL TANK FUEL CAPACITY WAS EMPTY. ALSO, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER IMMEDIATLEY REFUELING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,000.
