DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CHECK ENGINE AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE OPERATING AT A REDUCED SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE AND APP SENSOR ASSEMBLY OF THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE AND APP SENSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED REPLACED AGAIN. AFTERWARDS THE SECOND REPAIR, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO PERSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
WAS DRIVING TRUCK AND NOTICED LOUD MOTOR NOISE IN ADDITION TO ENGINE RUNNING. TURNED TRUCK OFF IN GARAGE AND A MOTOR NOISE WAS STILL RUNNING WITH ENGINE TURNED OFF. ABS LIGHT ON DASH ILLUMINATED. UNLOADED CHILD, SELF AND GROCERIES FROM TRUCK. 30 MINUTES LATER, (TRYING TO FIGURE OUT NEXT STEP TO CORRECT PROBLEM SINCE IT WAS A SUNDAY), MOTOR NOISE IS STILL RUNNING AND ENGINE IS OFF. DROVE TRUCK TO FIRESTONE GARAGE. TURNED ENGINE OFF, MOTOR NOISE STILL RUNNING. GARAGE HOOKED TRUCK UP TO DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM AND SAID THAT THERE WAS A FAILURE IN ABS SYSTEM. THEY DISCONNECTED ABS SYSTEM AND MOTOR NOISE STOPPED. SAID THAT THE PART WAS DANGEROUSLY HOT AND THAT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD BECAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM SITS RIGHT UNDER/OVER THE GAS TANK. CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY FAMILY AND HOUSE IF IT CAUSED A FIRE IN MY GARAGE? WHAT IF I COULDN'T HAVE FOUND A GARAGE THAT WAS OPEN ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON? THERE AREN'T MANY, BELIEVE ME. I HAVE RECEIVED A QUOTE TO HAVE PART REPLACED, BUT HAVE NOT FIXED YET. IT IS VERY INCONVENIENT FOR ME TO LEAVE MY TRUCK AT A DEALERSHIP FOR THE LENGTH OF TIME THIS IS GOING TO TAKE TO BE DIAGNOSED AGAIN (AND OF COURSE THE DEALER WANTS ME TO PAY THE $99 DIAGNOSTIC FEE AGAIN AFTER I HAVE ALREADY PAID THIS ONCE TO FIRESTONE). I DO NOT FEEL THAT THE ABS SYSTEM SHOULD FAIL ON A TRUCK THAT IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. *JB
I PURCHASED MY 2001 YUKON DENALI XL ON NOVEMBER 22, 2006 AND WHEN I WAS DRIVING IT HOME FROM THE DEALERSHIP IT DIED AT A RED LIGHT. IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP SO I DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT. THE VERY NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE DIED DURING ACCELERATION WHEN I WAS AT ABOUT 20 MPH. I HAD A HARD TIME RESTARTING THE VEHICLE. IT SPIT AND SPUTTERED. WHEN I DID GET IT STARTED I TRIED TO DRIVE AND WHEN I USED THE BRAKES IT WANTED TO DIE OR IT WOULD IDLE UP AND MAKE BRAKING DIFFICULT. I COULD NOT MAINTAIN A CONSTANT SPEED AND THE ENGINE KEPT DYING. THERE IS NO WAY I COULD DRIVE THIS VEHICLE WITHOUT CRASHING IT. AT THIS POINT I DECIDED THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. ITS OBVIOUS THERE IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT IS INTERMITTENT. IT IS NOW SITTING AT A DIFFERENT MECHANICS SHOP TRYING TO FIND THE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THESE SIMILAR VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE BEEN BROKEN DOWN INTO DIFFERENT CATEGORIES LIKE YUKON, YUKON XL, YUKON DENALI, YUKON DENALI XL, OR JUST DENALI. THE COMPLAINTS ARE ALSO LISTED IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF "COMPLAINT TYPE". NOBODY KNOWS WHAT "COMPLAINT TYPE" TO LIST IT UNDER BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS CAUSING IT. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH UNKNOWN ORIGIN AND RESOLUTION. AND WITH THE COMPLAINTS BEING BROKEN DOWN INTO DIFFERENT VEHICLE AND TYPE CATEGORIES, MAYBE IT ISN'T REALIZED THESE VEHICLES ARE ALL BUILT ON THE SAME PLATFORM AND HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE MY NEW VEHICLE. *JB
GMC ABS ANTI-LOCK BRAKE ELECTRONIC MODULE HAS FAILED TWICE FOR A 2001 VEHICLE. THIS PART IS CRITICAL FOR USE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. FIRST FAILURE NOVEMBER 2004; PART WAS REPLACED BY DEALER AND I PAID LABOR. SECOND FAILURE NOVEMBER 2006; DEALER REFUSED TO ASSIST IN REPLACEMENT OF SAME PART. VEHICLE REQUIRES PART TO BE REPLACED FOR ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TO FUNCTION. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 10-20 MPH. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED EACH TIME. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP.
GMC YUKON XL 2500, 8.1L ENGINE... PURCHASED TRUCK (2ND OWNER) 8/2005 FROM GMC DEALER. NOTICED FIRST OCCASION OF STALLING APP. 10/05 OR 11/05. DEALER SAID "COULDN'T REPRODUCE COMPLAINT" AND RELEASED THE VEHICLE. TRUCK DROVE OK FOR AWHILE AND BEGAN STALLING AGAIN, THIS TIME GM DEALER SAID "FUEL PUMP" ($900+). TRUCK CONTINUED TO STALL ON AND OFF FOR YEARS, EACH TIME NO ONE COULD FIND PROBLEM.. RECENTLY, SUMMER OF 09, IT HAS BECOME WORSE (MORE FREQUENT AND LONGER TIME TO RE-START) AND AFTER TWO INDEPENDENT DIAGNOSTIC TESTS BY TWO SEPARATE CERTIFIED MECHANICS, IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR. I HAD ALREADY HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT SINCE MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL (EVEN THOUGH ITS THE SAME YEAR, MODEL AND ENGINE) I AM BEING TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT COVER!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO.. I CANT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER BECAUSE IT STALLS MUCH MORE OFTEN AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING MEANING LOSS OF POWER STEERING, ETC AND RISK OF CRASH. 2001 YUKON XL PARKING BRAKE INOPERATIVE. DEALER SAYS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. BUT CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND I HARDLY EVER USE THE PARKING BRAKE. NORMAL BRAKES ARE STILL GOOD AT 68000 MILES. INFORMED BY SEVERAL MECHANICS THAT THIS IS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW GM SHOULD FIX. *NM
WHILE DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 59 NORTHBOUND BEFORE THE LOUISE, TX EXIT, THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM MY BACK DRIVER SIDE TIRE CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY FENDER AREA AND BACK DRIVER SIDE DOOR. MY FIRESTONE STEELTEX AT LT245/75R16 TIRE WAS NOT FLAT, THE TREAD JUST CAME OFF. *JB
ABS SYSTEM HAD TO BE DISABLED BECAUSE OF ABS PUMP RUNNING WHEN VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF. BECAUSE PUMP WAS RUNNING IT CAUSED THE BATTERY TO DIE SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL MY MECHANIC DISCONNECTED THE PUMP. I WAS TOLD THIS PART WOULD COST 1200.00 TO REPLACE. *NM
FAILURE OF ABS MODULE - 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500 PUMP MOTOR CONTINUES TO RUN AFTER VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. *JB
I OPENED BACK REAR LIFT GLASS AND IT MADE A VERY STRANGE NOISE. I CLOSED IT THEN NOTICED IT WAS NOT SITTING STRAIGHT SO I OPENED IT AGAIN TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE IT AGAIN IT WOULD NOT LOCK AND THEN ONE HINGE HOLDING THE GLASS ON JUST BROKE AND THEN THE GLASS WAS ONLY HELD ON BY ONE HINGE AND WAS COMPLETELY CROOKED. I CONTACTED GMC DEALER AND THEY SAID $1,100.00 REPAIR BECAUSE THEY HAD TO REPAIR THE WHOLE GLASS PLUS THE HINGES. I FOUND OUT THAT A COUPLE OTHER PEOPLE IN MY SMALL AREA HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEN I FOUND SOMEWHERE ON THIS WEBSITE THERE HAD BEEN 3 MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. WHEN I SPOKE WITH GMC THEY SAID IT WASN'T ANYTHING I DID AND IT WASN'T DUE FROM WEAR AND TEAR THAT IT JUST BROKE. APPARENTLY THE PART THAT BROKE ON MINE WAS THE WELDING CAME OFF. I THINK IF AN INVESTIGATION IS STARTED THAT GMC WILL FIND OUT THERE ARE A LOT MORE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
MY 2001 XL 2500 HAS HAD PERIODIC PROBLEMS STARTING AND STALLING AT DIFFERENT TIMES. THE STARTING PROBLEM HAPPENS ABOUT 2 TIMES AS OFTEN AS THE STALLING PROBLEM. THEY DO NOT HAPPEN AT THE SAME TIME. USUALLY, IF IT DOESN'T FIRE RIGHT UP YOU HAVE TO WAIT ABOUT TWENTY SECONDS AND TRY AGAIN. IT USUALLY STARTS THE SECOND OR THIRD TIME. THE STALLING PROBLEM IS LESS DETECTABLE. IT HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 TIMES TOTAL. EACH TIME I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE GOING UNDER 30 MILES PER HOUR AND ABLE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE LOSS OF POWER. I DID NOT PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE AS NEW AND DO NOT KNOW IF PRIOR OWNER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS. IT HAD 30,000 MILES ON IT WHEN I PURCHASED IT IN JAN. 2002. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A PUDDLE OF FUEL HAD LEAKED FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE LEAK CAME FROM THE FUEL PUMP. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V155000, REGARDING THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART, HOWEVER THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WORKED PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FUSE OF THE FUEL PUMP HAD GONE OUT. THE FUSE WAS REPLACED. A FEW WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DIFFERENT DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE FUEL PUMP WIRING SHORTED AND THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW FUEL PUMP. THERE WAS A RECALL #01V159000 REGARDING THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. WHEN THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, A COMPLAINT WAS TAKEN WHICH RESULTED IN A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE REPAIRS.
ABS AND PARK BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. RESULT WAS EBCM (ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE) BAD WHICH I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER COULD CAUSE TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. REPAIRS COST $959.00 AND ACCORDING TO THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, THIS IS VERY COMMON AROUND 80,000 MILES. MINE IS AT 83,000! *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED DUE TO BINDING. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE PUMP BINDING. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND BUMPY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE PRIVATE REPAIR SHOP WHERE THEY DETERMINED THAT THE SHAFT ON THE POWER STEERING UNIT HAD DETACHED. THE POWER STEERING UNIT WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED.
FIRST THERE WAS A TIRE BLOWOUT, TIRE SEPARATED WITH 11/32 THREAD LEFT. SECOND AT LEAST 1 SEAT BELT DID NOT HOLD. THIRD NO AIRBAGS WENT OFF. FOURTH THE ROOF CAVED IN LIKE A "V" SHAPE IN THE DRIVERS COMPARTMENT, BY THE WINDSHIELD. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 GMC YUKON SLT, AND I HAVE HAD AN ABS ISSUE. I HEARD A CONSTANT RUNNING SOUND, EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS NOT RUNNING. NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE ABS, AND HAD TO PULL THE FUSE TO STOP IT. NOW MY BRAKE & ABS LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. THE DEALERS WILL NOT FIX IT, JUST REPLACE THEM. WHICH IS AROUND A GRAND TO DO. SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL OUTSIDE THE "SALT BELT" STATES THEY WON'T HELP US. I'VE FOUND SOMEONE IN THE AREA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I RESEARCH IT ONLINE, AND SEE IT APPEARS TO BE AN COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM. THERE IS A RECALL OUT, BUT DOES NOT APPLY HERE IN FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA. IN WHICH WERE ARE ON THE COAST AN SUBJECT TO SALT WATERS OF THE GULF COAST. I'VE NOTICED IT ON NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 05V379000. IT AFFECTS "SALT BELT" STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODA ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ONLY.... PLEASE EXTEND RECALL AREA FOR OTHER LOCATIONS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. MAYBE COASTAL AREAS, ETC. *NM
ABS MODULE FAILURE THE ABS MODULE IN MY 2001 YUKON XL HAS FAILED. IT WILL COST ME $1200 TO REPLACE IT. WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT THE MODULE FAILS, AND THE ABS MOTOR STARTS RUNNING CONTINUALLY. THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM WITH GM VEHICLES FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET, AND WHAT I HAVE HEARD SECOND HAND FROM A SERVICE MANAGER AT A GM DEALERSHIP. I NOTICED TODAY THAT YOU ARE INVESTIGATING FIRES RESULTING FROM ABS MODULES, AND WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR GM. I SENT GM AN EMAIL ABOUT THIS, BUT SINCE I HADN'T TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO A GM DEALER FOR REPAIR, RATHER I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP, THEY WERE UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. WHEN I ULTIMATELY TOOK IT IN, THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $1200 TO FIX. *JB

NARROWED IT DOWN TO THE ABS, AND HAD TO PULL THE FUSE TO STOP IT. NOW, MY BRAKE & ABS LIGHTS CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED. IT HAD ME AT A DISADVANTAGE. I AM A FATHER OF 2, AND WE OFTEN TRANSPORT OUR PARENTS. GENERALLY DO MOST TRAVELING IN THE YUKON, BUT NOW APPREHENSIVE ABOUT THE IDEA OF IT. DO NOT WANT TO SUBJECT THE FAMILY TO SUCH. I DEPLOY A LOT, AND DON'T WANT MY WIFE TO DRIVE IT IN THIS CONDITION. I TRIED TO TAKE IT TO THE GMC DEALERS AWHILE BACK. THE DEALERS WILL NOT FIX IT, JUST REPLACED THEM. WHICH WAS AROUND A GRAND TO DO. SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL OUTSIDE THE SALT BELT STATES THEY WON'T HELP US. I FOUND SOMEONE IN THE AREA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I RESEARCHED IT ONLINE, AND IT APPEARED TO BE AN COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM. THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT IT DID NOT APPLY HERE IN FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA. MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500 SLT PARKING BRAKE HAS FAILED. THE VEHICLE HAS 66000 MILES AND IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND PROPERLY MAINTAINED. THE PARKING BRAKE FOOT LEVER GOES TO THE FLOOR AND DOES NOT HOLD AT ALL. THE PARKING BRAKE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO ME BY A CHEVY/GMC DEALER DURING MY LATEST STATE VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. THE ORIGINAL OWNER SAYS HE NEVER USED THE PARKING BRAKE. I HAVE NEVER USED THE PARKING BRAKE BECAUSE IT IS NOT NEEDED IN OUR FLAT TERRAIN. ACCORDING TO REPAIR SHOPS AND THE INTERNET, THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM WITH MANY OS THESE VEHICLES. YOU MAY ALREADY BE AWARE OF THIS SAFETY PROBLEM, BUT I SHOW NO INFORMATION ON YOUR WEB SITE. I AM INFORMING YOU OF THIS TO PERHAPS PREVENT A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE WILL BE GRATEFUL. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BATTERY LEAKED ACID CAUSING THE POSITIVE CABLE TO BECOME CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE BATTERY AND CABLE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
UPON MOVING TO HOUSTON, I HAD AN INSPECTION PERFORMED ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PARKING BRAKE HAD BECOME ENGAGED, EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT EVEN USE IT, AND DESTROYED MY REAR LEFT ROTOR, BRAKE PADS, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS. IN ADDITION TO REPLACING THE ROTOR AND ALL BRAKE PADS ON THE REAR LEFT, I ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS ON THE RIGHT REAR REPLACED AS WELL. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME WITH NO REAR BRAKE PADS OR EMERGENCY BRAKE. IN OTHER WORDS, HAD I PARKED MY CAR ON AN INCLINE AND USED THE PARKING BRAKE, IT WOULD NOT HOLD MY CAR. I ALSO HAD NO REAR BRAKES IF MY FRONT BRAKES HAD FAILED. I HAVE READ FORUMS ONLINE AND HAVE DISCOVERED THIS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL OTHER 2001 YUKON OWNERS. I HAVE A 2001 GMC YUKON AND IT CAME WITH FIRESTONE STEELTEX AT TIRES LT 245/75R 16. THE TIRE'S DOT # IS VN11 BAC 4700. I WAS GOING SOUTH ON HWY 101 AND THE FRONT END BEGAN TO VIBRATE. BEFORE, I COULD PULL OVER THE TREAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE CORE AND WAS FLYING ALL OVER THE HIGHWAY. THE CORE STILL HELD AIR AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER WITH OUT ANY INCIDENTS. I DROVE THE VEHICLE ABOUT 1 MILE TO THE NEXT EXIT WHERE I WAS ABLE TO CHANGE THE TIRE AND EXAMINE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MINOR BODY DAMAGE WHERE THE TREAD HIT THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL (DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT). I HAVE SENT THE CORE TO FIRESTONE AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY SUSTAINED HIGH PRESSURE IN THE TIRE. I DISAGREE WITH THIS BECAUSE ALL 4 TIRES HAD EVEN TREADS WITH OUT ANY BALD AREAS IN THE MIDDLE AND THE TIRE PRESS WAS CHECKED RIGHT BEFORE MY TRIP. WHEN I REPLACED THE 4 TIRES, THE SALESMAN LOOK AT THE OTHER 3 AND HE SAID THAT THEY WASN'T ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM. THEY STILL HAVE THE CORE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO EXAMINE IT. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 2500. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND LOST POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT IT TOOK A FEW MINUTES. HE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. AFTER THE REPAIR, HE DISCOVERED THE RECALL FOR THE SAME DEFECT FOR THE YUKON, BUT NOT FOR THE YUKON XL, EVEN THOUGH IT HAD THE SAME MOTOR. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT FEELS THAT IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
PARKING BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD. VEHICLE WILL ROLL BACK WITH THE BRAKE FULLY APPLIED. VEHICLE HAS 35000 MILES. BRAKE HAS BEEN USED ONLY ABOUT 10 TIMES OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER STATES THE BRAKE CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. *JB

2001 YUKON TRANSMISSION SEAL FAILED BECAUSE OF ROUGH SHIFTING, SERPENTINE DRIVE BELT SQUEAKS. VEHICLE LEAKED FUEL CONSUMER HAD TO GET A RIDE HOME WHILE FIRE DEPT CLEANED UP SPILL. *TS A SEAL FAILED AND COOLANT LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION AND DESTROYED IT. THE RADIATOR SEAL FAILED. MY COMPLAINT IS RELATED TO THE ALREADY IN EFFECT RECALL FOR GM RECALL NO. 06083. I WANT TO REQUEST THAT ANOTHER INVESTIGATION BE DONE. DUE TO THE FACT THAT I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH MY 2001 GMC YUKON SLE 5.3L V8. THE PROBLEM BEGAN A FEW YEARS BACK IN 2006 AND UNTIL THIS PRESENT TIME, ITS GETTING WORSE AS TIME PASSES BY. WHEN IT HAPPENED THE VERY FIRST TIME I CONTACTED GM AND THEY OBVIOUSLY SAID THAT THEY HAD NO REPORTED INCIDENTS AS THE ONE THAT I WAS DESCRIBING FOR MY VEHICLE.THEN WHEN I SAW THE RECALL ON THE LOCAL NEWS IN 2007 I GAVE THEM A CALL BACK AND AGAIN THEY CLAIMED THAT NO INCIDENTS WERE REPORTED FOR MY SPECIFIC MODEL AND ENGINE, SO THEY BRUSHED ME OFF QUICKLY AS IF I WERE JUST CALLING CAUSE I HAD NOTHING ELSE TO DO & WAS JUST LOOKING TO WASTE MY TIME AND THEIRS!. I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF INCIDENTS OCCUR WHERE THE TRUCK HAS STALL WHILE IN DRIVE AND AT A SPEED BETWEEN 10 -40 MPH ON A SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FWY (WHERE YOU CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON TRAFFIC CONGESTION). MY FAMILY MEMBERS AND MYSELF HAVE BEEN VERY LUCKY TO HAVE ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY.IN TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH MY VEHICLE I CAME ACROSS MANY GMC OWNER FORUMS WERE COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WITH MY SAME ENGINE AND MODEL SUV HAD BEEN LOOKING FOR THE REASON AND SOLUTION WHAT CAUSED THAT VEHICLE BEHAVIOR. MY SUV HAS THE SAME EXACT ISSUES DESCRIBED IN THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH WHICH I COPIED FROM THE RECALL EXPLANATION : "THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION CAN OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY OR FAIL COMPLETELY. IF THE SENSOR OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY, THE SES LIGHT MAY ILLUMINATE AND THE VEHICLE MAY RUN ROUGH. THE ENGINE MAY STALL, AND IF SO, MAY RE-START IMMEDIATELY OR AFTER A COOL DOWN PERIOD." CONSEQUENCE: "IF THE SENSOR BECOMES COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE, THE ENGINE WILL QUIT RUNNING AND WILL NOT RE-START. LOW SPEED BRAKE FAILURE RESULTING IN A REAR END COLLISION. I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AS THE 5 VEHICLE IN LINE TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE LIGHT. I WAS BRAKING LIGHTLY TO CONTROL MY SPEED AS TO ASSUME MY POSITION IN LINE TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I DID NOT NEED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS APPROACHING THE FOURTH CAR. THE THIRD CAR IN THE LINE SUDDENLY BRAKED HARD IN THE INTERSECTION CAUSING THE FOURTH CAR IN FRONT OF ME TO BRAKE HARD. I ATTEMPTED TO PERFORM AN EMERGENCY STOP BUT I EXPERIENCED A HARD BRAKE PEDAL WITH NO BRAKES AND THE INABILITY TO SLOW DOWN. THIS RESULTED IN A REAR END COLLISION FOR WHICH I WAS AT FAULT. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF VEHICLE SIMILAR TO MINE WHICH ALSO HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR FAILURE BUT WITHOUT THE CRASH. I HAVE FAILED IN SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF GM THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP AND A PRODUCT ALLOCATION REQUEST. MY ONLY AVENUE NOW IS THROUGH YOUR ORGANIZATION OR A LEGAL CLASS ACTION MATTER. *JB
2001 YUKON PARKING BRAKE WAS PRE-MATURELY WORN. MY OWN RUDIMENTARY RESEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS BECOMING A PERVASIVE PROBLEM FOR MANY LATE MODEL GM SUV/TRUCK OWNERS. BRAKE SHOE WAS GONE, SCRAPING METAL TO METAL WITH ROTOR. PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT FUNCTIONAL AND POTENTIAL HAZARDOUS IF RELIED UPON FOR PARKING ON AN INCLINE. DEFECT IN THE BRAKE SHOE ALONE WAS $250 TO REPAIR + $200 TO REPLACE THE ROTOR DAMAGED BY THE FAULTY BRAKE SHOE. GM HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THIS PROBLEM WITH A SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT REFUSES TO REPLACE VOLUNTARILY. *JB
TAILGATE LIFT ASSIST PISTONS FAILED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, MAKING THE OPENING AND LIFTING OF THE REAR TAILGATE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO WEIGHT. THIS ISSUE REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE TWO PISTONS. WITHOUT A FIX THE VEHICLE OWNER HAS TO PROP OPEN THE TAILGATE WITH A HOMEMADE SUPPORT WHICH CAUSES A SERIOUS DANGER OF INADVERTANT SLIPPING AND CLOSURE OF THE HEAVY TAILGATE WHICH IS AN IMMENANT DANGER TO SMALL CHILDREN, ELDERLY. VEHILCE IS A 2001 AND THESE PARTS SHOULD HAVE A LONGER LIFE EXPECTANCY.

THANKFULLY, WE HAVEN'T HAD AN ACCIDENT INVOLVING ANOTHER VEHICLE YET. WHEN DRIVING MY SON TO SCHOOL THIS MORNING, WE HAD ICE ON OUR ROADS AND IT WAS EVEN MORE IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP...I WORRY THAT WITH WINTER CONDITIONS, AND THE NEED TO DRIVE SLOWER, THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE WILL INCREASE. I HAD HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL MONTHS AGO ON THE LOCAL NEWS AND WAS WORRIED WHY WE HADN'T RECEIVED OUR NOTICE. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE CALLED GMC DEALERSHIPS IN TN REPEATEDLY, BUT NO ONE WOULD HELP US UNTIL WE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GMC. WHEN I RETURNED HOME THIS MORNING, ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, I CALLED THE GMC RECALL INFORMATION LINE AND SPOKE WITH A REPRESENTATIVE THERE. I WAS FIRST INFORMED THAT MY CAR DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL BECAUSE IT HAS HIGH MILEAGE AND IS NOT PRESENTLY IN A NORTHERN STATE. THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO GMC MAINTENANCE RECORD ON FILE WAS ALSO AN ISSUE. I FELT THAT THE MILEAGE AND THE FACT THAT IT'S NOT IN A NORTHERN STATE NOW SHOULDN'T AFFECT WHETHER THE CAR QUALIFIES, I WAS TOLD THAT IT WASN'T THOSE FACTORS AFTER ALL, AND THAT THE VIN NUMBER ON OUR VEHICLE IS TRACED AND THEY FELT NO DEFECTIVE PART HAD BEEN PLACED IN OUR PARTICULAR VEHICLE ORIGINALLY. I WAS INFORMED THAT ANY HELP FROM GMC FOR REPAIRS WOULD BE ON A GOODWILL BASIS ONLY AND THAT I WOULD PROBABLY BE BETTER OFF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO A CHEAPER, INDEPENDENTLY OWNED CAR REPAIR SHOP AND HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE MYSELF. I FEEL GMC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE REPAIRS. I FEEL IF WE LIVED IN MICHIGAN, OUR CAR WOULD ALREADY HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AND THAT GMC IS USING THAT FACT TO GET OUT OF FUNDING THE WORK. *JB
