VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR (2) RECALLS DURING WHICH TIME AN INSPECTION OF THE BRAKES REQUIRED COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF FOUR (4) ROTORS AND LININGS. BRAKE LINING HAS LESS THAN 25% WEAR EXCEPT FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LINING WAS DESTROYED, MAKING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NON-FUNCTIONAL. DEALER STATED THAT EXCESSIVE CORROSION CAUSE DAMAGE TO EMERGENCY BRAKE AND UNSAFE CONDITION OF ALL FOUR ROTORS. DEALER REPLACED ROTORS AND BRAKE LININGS AT COST OF $900.00. CONTACTED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE TO REPORT SAFETY ISSUE AND FILE CLAIM. REIMBURSEMENT DENIED. *NM
THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED VARIOUS STEERING, SUSPENSION AND TRANSFER CASE PROBLEMS WITH HER 2001 GMC YUKON. *NM THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER WAS HANGING OUT. THE DEALER REPLACED THE HOUSING AND ELEMENT. THE PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE REPLACED. TEFLON GREASE WAS INSTALLED ON DRIVESHAFT TO ALLEVIATE THE BUMPINESS IN THE REAR. LICENSE PLATE LIGHT FOGGED UP. THE DEALER REPLACED THE LAMP. THE DRIVESHAFT WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH THE YOKE AT THE REAR U-JOINT. THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE CHAIN HAD STRETCHED. THE DEALER R AND R THE TRANSFER CASE AND REPLACED THE CHAIN. *NM
NON-WORKING PARKING BRAKE. IF THE VEHICLE IS LEFT IN NEUTRAL (AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL) WITH THE PARKING BRAKE APPLIED THE VEHICLE CAN ROLL. SEE 05V161000. THIS IS CAUSED BY A DESIGN FLAW FROM THE MANUFACTURER THAT CAUSES THE PARKING BRAKE TO NOT FULLY DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING WEAR ON THE PARKING BRAKE COMPONENTS. THESE VEHICLES HAVE SEPARATE BRAKE SYSTEMS FOR NORMAL AND PARKING BRAKES. THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM SHOULD NEVER WEAR OUT. APPLIES TO ALL 1999 - 2005 GM & GMC FULL SIZE PICKUPS AND FULL SIZE SUV VEHICLES. *JB
I HAVE A 2001 GMC YUKON XL. RECENTLY THERE WAS A RECALL FOR A FAILURE OF THE ABS BRAKE SENSORS WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKES TO PUMP RAPIDLY AT LOW SPEEDS DUE TO THE SEALS OF THE BEARINGS GOING BAD AND ALLOWING DIRT AND ROAD SALT TO GET TO THE SENSORS. WELL IN EARLY JULY I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE. SOMETIME IN LATE JULY I STARTED GETTING THE PULSING OF THE BRAKES. I WAS TOLD TO WAIT FOR THE RECALL, AND WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE ABS DISABLED BY LOOSENING ONE OF THE SENSORS. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN, THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH SENSORS IN THE FRONT WHEEL HUBS, BUT THEN STATED THE BEARINGS HAD GONE BAD AND I NEEDED A NEW WHEEL HUB. NOW THE CAR STILL HAS NO ABS, AND HAS A FUNNY FEEL FROM THAT WHEEL HUB. THE TRUCK HAS APPROX 53,000MILES ON IT. HOW CAN THE RECALL SAY IT IS BASED ONA FAULTY SEAL OF THE WHEEL BEARINGS GOING BAD, AND THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE TO REPLACE THE SEAL OR THE BEARINGS IF THEY GO BAD DUE TO THEIR DEFECT? I HAVE CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE A NUMBER OF TIMES AND ALL THEY SAY IS "THE RECALL COVERS THE SENSORS ONLY, THE WHEEL HUB IS A WEAR AND TEAR PART" AND DO NOT SHOW HOW THEIR DEFECT IS NOT THE CAUSE. *NM
2001 YUKON XL SUV WITH 81182 MILES ON IT. TRANSMISSION MADE A POPPING SOUND (NO FORWARD GEARS, BUT REVERSE GEARS). SUV HAS UPGRADED TRANSMISSION THAT HAD A SUPPOSEDLY BETTER MODEL "FRONT PLANET" PART PER GMC TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. THAT SUPPOSEDLY SUPERIOR "FRONT PLANET" SPLIT INTO (2) PARTS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION ALTHOUGH IT IS ONE MOLDED PIECE. RESULTING EXPLOSION OF METAL CAUSED A $2703.52 TRANSMISSION REBUILD. I HAVE THE DIGITAL PHOTOS AND THE ACTUAL FAILED PARTS!*JB
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED. THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 YUKON XL. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER TALKED TO GM, AND THEY OFFERED NO FREE REPAIR. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN FAILING FOR THE PAST YEAR. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION, AND THAT WAS HOW HE FIGURED OUT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER FELT THAT THIS WAS SIMILAR TO NHSTA RECALL 05V161000.*AK
DT: THE CALLER SAID FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. SHE SAID THERE WAS RECALL 05V155000 ON ANOTHER YEAR, BUT NOT THIS MODEL YEAR. DEALER SAID THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT IN RECALL. MANUFACTURER SAID THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE THE CALLER BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.*AK
DT: THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP FUSE KEPT BLOWING OUT, AND THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL. THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2005. A LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE CONSUMER STATED HAD TO KEEP AN EXTRA FUSE ON HAND. RECALL 05V1555000 WAS ISSUED. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY TOLD HER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ABS BRAKES ENGAGED AT LOW SPEEDS, 25 MPH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THREE MONTHS. THE CONSUMER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE EXAMINED, BUT DID NOT THINK HE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIRS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE TRUCK TO HIS MECHANIC. BUT, DID NOT HAVE THE VEHICLE FIXED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED GM, AND THEY OFFERED NO FREE REMEDY. THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 GMC YUKON.*AK
WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT WAS HARD TO TURN THE VEHICLE AND SHE EVENTUALLY MADE IT HOME. I CHECKED THE STEERING AND IT WAS MALFUNCTIONING. I HAVE HEARD THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED IN THE PAST AND WE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER GMC AND THEY STATED OUR VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST AND COULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNLESS WE PAID FOR THE VEHICLE REPAIR. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. IF THEY HAD RECALLED THIS IN THE PAST IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECTIFIED WITH THE VEHICLES SOLD AFTER THE RECALL. I BELIEVE WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. *JB
ACCORDING TO GM, MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL #05068 FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CORROSION. HOWEVER, MY VEHICLE MOST CERTAINLY DID HAVE THIS DEFECT, WHICH CAME CLOSE TO CAUSING ME 2 REAR-END COLLISIONS. I HAD THE REPAIRS MADE AT A GM DEALER AND AM SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT, BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD I CAN'T BE BECAUSE MY VIN IS NOT ON THE RECALL. PLEASE HELP ME NOTIFY GM THAT THEY NEED TO INCLUDE MY VEHICLE AND SEND ME THE RECALL NOTICE. *NM
THE REAR LIFTGATE HINGES, THAT ARE GLUED TO THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS, HAS COME FREE FROM THE GLASS. NEITHER THE GLASS LIFTGATE OR HINGES ARE DAMAGED, THE ATTACHING COMPOUND (I.E. GLUE?) HAS FAILED. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER A FACTORY EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT GMC CANNOT REPAIR THE DEFECT. THEY MUST REPLACE UNDAMAGED ITEMS IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE FAILED ADHESIVE.*JB
INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT I WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THEY HAD RECALLS ON SAME SUV BUT OF DIFFERENT YEARS, BUT FAILED TO INCLUDE THE 2001 YUKON XL DENALI. STEERING WHEEL COMES LOOSE!!!*JB
IN AUG 2005, THE ABS LIGHT ON OUR 2001 GMC YUKON WITH 51K MILES CAME ON AND THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE (THE PUMP) UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHICH REMAINS ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THE ABS FUSE MUST BE REMOVED TO SHUT OFF THE PUMP. OUR LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP REPAIRED IT FOR $1100 ($870 FOR THE ABS MODULE). IN SEP 2009, THE ABS FAILED AGAIN AT 91K MILES. OUR GMC DEALERSHIP HELPED COVER THE COST OF REPAIR BY COVERING THE COST OF THE MODULE. WE HAD TO WAIT 2 MONTHS (NOV 2009) BEFORE THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED BECAUSE WE WERE TOLD THAT THE MODULE WAS BEING REDESIGNED TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS. IN OCT 2014, THE ABS FAILED AGAIN AT 138K MILES. OUR GMC DEALERSHIP PUT US IN CONTACT WITH GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THE HOPE THAT GMC COULD ASSIST IN COVERING THE COST OF REPAIR. AFTER SEVERAL FRUSTRATING PHONE CALLS WITH SUPERVISORS, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TOO OLD AND THEREFORE GMC WOULD NOT ASSIST. DURING THESE PHONE CALLS GMC STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE IN "SALT-BELT" STATES BUT NOT CALIFORNIA. OBVIOUSLY THE ABS MODULE IS DEFECTIVE AS A RELATIVE WITH A SIMILAR VEHICLE (CHEVY TAHOE) HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE ABS MODULE. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET, WE FOUND A COMPANY THAT STATES THAT THEY CAN REPAIR THE MODULE FOR UNDER $100 AND GUARANTEES THE REPAIR FOR LIFE. IF THEY CAN DO THIS, WHY CAN'T GM MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES TO THE ABS MODULE AND GIVE CUSTOMERS THE PEACE OF MIND THAT THE VEHICLE WILL BE SAFE. HOPEFULLY THE NHTSA WILL USE THIS AND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND FORCE GM TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THE ABS MODULE. *TR
DT: THERE WAS RECALL FOR THE BRAKES, BUT THE CONSUMERS STATE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE ABS SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER HAD SOMEONE LOOK AT IT AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. IT STILL STOPS AND DOESN'T MAKE ANY TYPE OF FUNNY NOISE. THE ABS LIGHT AND EMERGENCY LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. THIS STARTED AROUND AUGUST 15, 2005. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER.*JB
WHEN I BRAKE AT SLOW SPEEDS IN MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL, THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM CAUSES A CHATTERING AND YOU HAVE TO PUSH VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET THIS TO STOP AND THEN THE BRAKES START TO WORK AND YOU CAN SLOW DOWN AND STOP. HOWEVER, SOMETIMES, I THINK THE CAR JUST ISN'T GOING TO STOP. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT WAS SLOWING DOWN TO COME TO A STOP AND THE ABS LIGHT AND PARKING LIGHT CAME ON. HE INCREASED HIS STOPPING DISTANCE IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO COME TO A STOP. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER; THEY HOOKED IT UP TO A DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. THE DEALER STATED IT NEEDED A NEW ELECTRONIC BOX. THERE WAS NO FREE REMEDY TO FIX THE BOX. THE SEAT BELT ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE IN THE SECOND ROW OF THE VEHICLE LOCKED IN THE BUCKLE, OTHER TIMES IT WILL COME LOOSE WHILE IN THE SEAT BELT. ALSO WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT ONE COULD HEAR A CLICKING SOUND. THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE. *AK
GMC YUKON 2001 ABS BRAKE ENGAGEMENT AT LOW SPEED (SEE: NHTSA ACTION NUMBER PE05020). NO ACCIDENT YET BUT IT WILL HAPPEN WITHOUT REPAIRS. VEHICLE NOT USED MUCH IN SUMMER TIME. *NM
ABS LIGHT/BRAKE LIGHT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V379000 I CALLED GMC AS MY VEHICLE IS EXHIBITING SYMPTOMS OF ABS SENSOR FAILURE. THEY SAID IT WILL BE JAN 2006 BEFORE RECALL BEGINS, MAY BE 11/2006 BEFORE LETTERS GO. THEY WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE DEALER TO LOOK AT VEHICLE OR MAKE REPAIRS. MY VEHICLE MAKE/MODEL/YEAR SHOW UP IN CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT BUT THEY SAID THAT DOESN'T MEAN GMC HAS BEGUN A RECALL. *JB
DT: WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE OWNER SAW THE ABS LIGHT COME ON AND DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS. THIS OCCURRED IN JULY 2005. THE OWNER RETURNED HOME FROM A TRIP. THE OWNER HEARD A NOISE AND THOUGHT IT WAS A REFRIGERATOR IN THE GARAGE. THE NOISE CONTINUED ALL NIGHT. THEN THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MECHANIC, AND UPON INSPECTION, HE NOTED ABS MOTOR KEPT RUNNING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC UNHOOKED THE ABS MOTOR. THE NOISE QUIT, BUT THE ABS LIGHT WAS STILL ON. THE OWNER KNEW ABOUT THE ABS UNIT MODULE RECALL , AND WONDERED IF THIS IT RELATED TO THE MOTOR HAVING TO BE REPLACED. SHE DID NOT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS ACTIVATING. THIS RECALL 05V379000. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ACCORDING TO HER DEALERSHIP.*AK *NM
2001 YUKON XL 1)ABS BRAKES RESIST BETWEEN 1 AND 10 MPH; USUALLY AT OR AROUND 3 TO 5 MPH; CONSISTENTLY AND ONLY AT THESE LOW RATES OF SPEED 2)USUALLY CAUSES STOPPING TO BE AT GREATER DISTANCE THAN DRIVER EXPECTS; ALTHOUGH IT DID CAUSE US TO ROLL INTO AN INTERSECTION THE OTHER DAY BY RESISTING TO STOP. 3)MY MECHANIC CAN FIND NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES, ROTERS, ETC... SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO SENSOR.
ABS BREAKS ON AT LOW SPEEDS
ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. VEHICLE DOES NOT STOP WHEN BRAKING. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED IN MAY 2005 FUEL PUMP FAILED ON 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500. HE HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. WHEN HE PULLED THE OLD ONE OUT HE NOTICED THAT THE WIRES WERE BURNED AND MELTED TOGETHER. HE CALLED GM, AND THEY TOLD HIM THEY WOULD ISSUE A RECALL IN NOVEMBER. THE CONSUMER THOUGHT THIS WAS NOT RIGHT BECAUSE THAT WAS SIX MONTHS AWAY. *AK
PARKING BRAKE DID NOT HOLD. 1 ROTOR WAS BAD AND PARKING BRAKE SHOES WERE BAD. EVEN AFTER REPAIR, PARKING BRAKE GOES ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR. I BELIEVE BRAKE SHOES WERE DEFECTIVE WHEN VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THIS IS POOR ENGINEERING ON GM'S PART. I THINK I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED FULLY FOR REPAIRS ON PARKING BRAKE. SINCE THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO DEALERS, I THINK THE CUSTOMER SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVISED. THIS WAS VERY UNSAFE. WE HAD TO PAY $439.47 FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. THIS WAS ON 2001 GMC YUKON.
ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TOTALLY FAILED AND WENT OUT. REPLACED ABS. WAS TOLD BY TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS THAT THEY HAD REPLACED A LOT OF THESE SYSTEMS RECENTLY. PARKING BRAKE WENT OUT. USED, MAYBE 5 TIMES. HAVE NOT REPLACED YET. WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT WAS COMMON FOR THIS SYSTEM TO GO OUT WITHOUT USE.
THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL [XXX] ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHEN CORNERING ON DRY PAVEMENT. THIS IS ANNOYING AND DISCONCERTING. I FEEL THAT MY STOPPING DISTANCE IS INCREASED AND PEDAL EFFORT IS ALSO INCREASED. I READ ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION ABOUT THE BRAKES ON GM'S SUV'S. I HAVE A 2001 GMC YUKON AND WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES, JUST BEFORE IT STOPS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES STARTS PULSING AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES FORWARD 3 TO 10 FEET. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALER RIGHT NOW GETTING THE OIL CHANGED AND I AM GETTING A QUOTE ON THE BRAKES. I CALLED GM'S WARRANTY DIVISION AND THEY SAID IT IS NOT A RECALL YET. MY FILE # IS1-332799234.
LEAKING FUEL PUMP AND STRONG SMELL OF GAS INSIDE OF CAR
DT: CONTACT STATES THE ABS COMES ON WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, CAUSING THE MANUAL BRAKES TO PUMP AT LOW SPEED, LEADING TO EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES. THE SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT HUB AND THE SENSOR. THE ABS LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE, INDICATING THERE WERE SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS. THIS OCCURRED DURING NORMAL WEATHER CONDITIONS.*AK
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL. HE STATES THERE WAS A RECALL FOR HIS VEHICLE ON THE SEAT BELT RETRACTORS NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 01V159000. THE RECALL STATES THAT THERE COULD BE A NO LOCK CONDITION BUT THE CONSUMER REPORTED AN INCIDENT WHERE THE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT COME UNLOCKED. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME OF ANY PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT BELTS. THE INCIDENT ALSO HAPPENED WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF WARNING. THE BUCKLE WAS FREE OF DIRT AND OTHER CONTAMINANTS. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THAT THEY WERE GLAD HIS DAUGHTER WAS OKAY. IN APRIL 2005 HIS DAUGHTER GOT STUCK IN THE SEAT BELT AND THEY HAD TO CUT IT TO GET HER OUT. THE SEAT BELT WAS OUTBOARD LEFT SIDE SECOND ROW OF SEATING. *NM
DT: 2001, GMC YUKON, VEHICLE HAD GASOLINE LEAKAGE, CONSUMER COULD SMELL LEAK, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE, AND DEALER RAN TEST T AND HE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AFTER THE TEST. DEALER RESET BUTTON. THIS DID NOT FIX GASOLINE SMELL. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER A THIRD TIME, AND DEALER FOUND LEAK IN THE GAS TANK WHICH IS CURRENTLY BEING FIXED AT CONSUMER' S EXPENSE. *AK
WHILE TRAVELING OVER RAILROAD TRACKS I HAD TO BRAKE SUDDENLY TO NOT HIT A CAR THAT QUICKLY STOPPED IN FONT OF ME. I WAS GOING ABOUT 25-30 MPH. AS I BRAKED OVER THE TRACKS THE ABS KICKED IN CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT. I HIT THE GUARD RAIL WITH THE RIGHT FRONT QUARTER CAUSING $3500 IN DAMAGE. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I DROVE HOME AND TURNED OFF THE CAR BUT IT DID NOT COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE BATTERY WAS DISCONNECTED AT THE ADVICE OF THE DEALER AS TO NOT CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS THE EBCM INTERNAL RELAY SHORTED OUT CAUSING ABS PUMP TO CONSTANTLY RUN. THE PART WAS REPLACED COSTING OVER $1200. THIS ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE BATTERY SO IT WAS ALSO REPLACED. *JB
I WOULD LIKE TO NOTE THAT MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL EXPERIENCES THE SAME PROBLEMS AS DESCRIBED IN YOUR INVESTIGATION # PE05020 AS IT RELATES TO ABS BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS. I'M HOPING THAT THIS WILL BE RECALLED SOON SO THAT IT CAN BE REPAIRED SOON.
MY 2001 YUKON XL HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT. UPON STARTUP THE ABS LIGHT STAYED ON AND THE PUMP MOTOR CONTINUES TO RUN. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP IT IS TO PULL THE ABS FUSE WHICH TURNS ON THE BRAKE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE IS DRIVABLE BUT ONLY WITH NORMAL BRAKING AND NO SAFETY OF THE ABS. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS FAILURE AND FEEL THAT GMC SHOULD BE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THEIR PRODUCT. I HAVE RECEIVED ESTIMATES ON THE REPAIRS BUT HAVE NOT COMPLETED THEM AS OF YET. IN STATES WHICH THERE ARE VEHICLE INSPECTIONS THIS PROBLEM WOULD CAUSE THE FAILURE OF INSPECTION WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS SUCH. *JB
I HAVE A YUKON DENALI 2001. I HAD AN ACCIDENT. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS. I SAW THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION # PEO5-020 UNDERWAY SINCE A RECALL WAS IN EFFECT IN CANADA. THE ACCIDENT WAS MINOR AND INVOLVED NO INJURTY. IT WAS DUE TO INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE WHERN APPROACHING MY GARAGE, I HAD THE VEHICLE REAIRED AND AM BRINGING IT IN TO GMC TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
THE BRAKE PEDAL HAD BECOME INCREASINGLY HARD TO PUSH OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW WEEKS. FINALLY, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ABS PUMP RAN CONTINUALLY, HEATING THE FLOOR PAN OF THE VEHICLE. I REMOVED THE ABS FUSE TO STOP THE PUMP. THIS IN TURN HAS DISABLED THE ABS AND THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE. IN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, IT SEEMS THE REPAIR FROM GM IS VERY EXPENSIVE ($1100) AND USES THE SAME VERSION OF A COMMONLY FAILING PART THAT MIGHT ONLY LAST ANOTHER 40-50K MILES. *JB
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND ALL THREE TIMES THE SAI (EMISSIONS) VALVES WERE RUSTED CAUSING THEM TO FAIL. THE DEALER TOLD ME SINCE THE VALVES ARE LOCATED DIRECTLY UNDER THE EXHAUST THE CONDENSATION FALLS ONTO THE THEM CAUSING THEM TO RUST. THEY ALSO SAID THERE IS NO PERMANENT FIX FOR THIS. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL. THE CONTACT STATES THAT HE HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS COMPUTER PUMP. THE VEHICLE WOULD MAKE A LOT OF NOISE. IT SOUNDS AS IF SOMEONE WAS BEATING ON THE FENDER OF THE TRUCK ,AND IT WAS PROBABLY MAKING THIS NOISE BECAUSE OF THE PUMP CONTINUING TO RUN. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE CONTACT TOOK THE FUSE OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHICH SHUT THE PUMP OFF. CURRENTLY, HE DOES NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WANTED ALMOST $1400 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM ,THEY WHERE GOING TO REPLACE THE PUMP. THIS PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN ON JANUARY OF 2005.*AK
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, OCCURING WHILE TURNIG. *AK
I PURCHASED 4 NEW CONTINENTAL-MADE TIRES FOR OUR 2001 GMC YUKON. THESE TIRES CARRY THE "GENERAL" BRAND NAME, MODEL P265-70R16, GRABBER AW, DOT# A3723J82301. I PURCHASED THESE TIRES WITH AN UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY ARE WARRANTED AGAINST DEFECTS AND ANY DAMAGE OCCURRING AS A RESULT WOULD BE COVERED BY THE TIRE COMPANY. I HAVE PROPERLY MAINTAINED THESE TIRES THROUGHOUT MY OWNERSHIP OF THEM. AFTER A LITTLE MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE, ONE OF THE TIRES UNEXPECTEDLY AND SUDDENLY BLEW UP, CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BARELY MISSING AN EMBANKMENT AND CONCRETE BRIDGE COLUMN. UPON INSPECTION OF THE TIRE IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER, I SAW THAT THE TREAD HAD COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF THE TOP OF THE TIRE. AS A RESULT OF THIS, THE LOOSE TREAD WAS "SLAPPING" EVERY PART OF THE VEHICLE IN THE SURROUNDING AREA CAUSING OVER $4,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE, INCLUDING, BODY DAMAGE, TAILPIPE DAMAGE, ELECTRICAL WIRES CUT, A/C LINES CUT, TAIL LIGHT SEVERED, RUNNING BOARDS BROKEN AND MORE. IMMEDIATELY AFTER, I CONTACTED CONTINENTAL AND FILED A CLAIM TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THIS DAMAGE. AFTER A LENGTHY WAIT, I WAS INFORMED ON JANUARY 26, 2005 THAT THEY WERE DENYING MY CLAIM DUE TO A SMALL TIRE PUNCTURE. IT IS MY CONTENTION THAT A SMALL PUNCTURE SHOULD NOT CAUSE THE TIRE TO ABSOLUTELY EXPLODE THE WAY MINE DID. FURTHERMORE, CONTINENTAL CLAIMS THERE WERE OTHER DEFECTS IN THE TIRE, SUCH AS SIDEWALL DAMAGE, THAT WERE ALL CAUSED AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT, AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. IT HAS SINCE BECOME CLEAR TO ME THAT CONTINENTAL HAS HAD THE SAME SORT OF BLOWOUTS ON SIMILAR MODELS. GM HAS RECALLED SEVERAL OF ITS SUVS AND PICKUPS DUE TO A BAD ANTI-LOCK BRAKE DESIGN. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN CANADA AND 14 US STATES OF WHICH MINNESOTA IS NOT INCLUDED. THIS PAST FALL I WAS HAVING THE DESCRIBED PROBLEMS OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES COMING ON WHENEVER I WAS BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS. THIS USUALLY OCCURRED AT STOP SIGNS. I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE WITH THE BRAKES AND THE IMPENDING WINTER AND DECIDED TO TAKE IT IN TO GET FIXED. THEY REPLACED A SENSOR SAYING IT WAS BAD AND I PAID ~$230 FOR THE FIX. PRIOR TO GETTING IT FIXED I HAD ONSTAR RUN DIAGNOSTICS TO SEE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM. AFTER GETTING IT FIXED AND HEARING OF THE RECALL IN CANADA I SPOKE WITH GM WHO SAID THAT THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME. NOW WITH THESE 14 OTHER STATES I AM FURIOUS. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY SHOULD BE COVERING THE COSTS OF MY REPAIRS SINCE I HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. TO PICK AND CHOOSE THE STATES WHILE COMPROMISING SAFETY IS ABSURD. CONSUMER PURCHASED A VEHICLE THAT WAS 3 INCHES TALLER THAN SAFETY REQUIREMENT. WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE. CONSUMER WAS PULLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS TOO TALL. VEHICLE WAS FINALLY IMPOUNDED BY HIGHWAY PATROL DUE TO SAFETY STANDARDS. *AK
THE METAL PIECE HOLDING THE 3RD ROW SEAT OF MY 2001 YUKON SNAPPED. IT IS AN ALUMINUM PIECE WITH A HARD COAT OF PLASTIC ON IT. I DO HAVE THE PIECE. WHEN I WAS AT THE DEALER TALKING TO THEM, THEY MENTIONED SOMEONE ELSE HAD JUST BEEN IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. MY ISSUE IS IF I HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND SOMEONE WAS IN THE THIRD ROW SEAT THEIR SAFETY WOULD HAVE BEEN HIGHLY COMPROMISED. THE THIRD ROW SEATS ARE HARDLY USED, SO WEAR AND TEAR SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE SERVICE INDICATOR INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ALL 4-WHEEL DRIVE POWER WAS COMPLETELY LOST IN THE VEHICLE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CASE SHIFT CONTROL MODULE FAILED. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FOUR TIMES SINCE 2004. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CASE SHIFT CONTROL MODULE EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT BELIEVES IT SHOULD NOT FAIL EVERY 12 MONTHS. SHE BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,946 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
THE ACCELERATOR STUCK ON OUR 2001 YUKON SLT WHILE DESCENDING HOOSIER PASS (EASTBOUND ON HWY 9 WEST OF ALMA, CO). THE BRAKES FAILED WHILE TRYING TO SLOW/STOP VEHICLE. I DOWNSHIFTED TO SLOW OUR VEHICLE TO A SPEED AND MY WIFE AND I EXITED (JUMPED OUT WHILE VEHICLE WAS STILL MOVING) BEFORE GOING OFF EMBANKMENT. MY WIFE JUMPED FIRST, THEN I DID, JUST BEFORE THE VEHICLE WENT OFF THE SIDE OF THE PASS. GOT IN MY VEHICLE ONE MORNING AND LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS( DAYTIME RUNNINGS) DID NOT COME ON BUT THE HIGH BEAMS WOULD NOR WOULD THEY COME ONE MANUALLY. I DROVE FOR AWHILE THEN THEY CAME ON. I OWN A 2001 YUKON XL AND HAVE A PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM. WHEN THE PEDAL IS PUSHED, IT GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. WHEN I RAISED THIS ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE DEPT. IN THE FIRST 3,000 MILES, I WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL, BUT HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED OTHERWISE. I NOW HAVE 46,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I JUST PAID $125.00 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BY ANOTHER DEALER WHO TOLD ME OF THE DESIGN DEFECT. GM NEEDS TO RECALL ALL THE VEHICLES AND CORRECT THE DESIGN FLAW.*JB
