THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS. THE UPPER RIGHT HINGE ON THE GLASS TO THE LIFTGATE BROKE. THE ENTIRE GLASS UNIT HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO HAS BEEN OF NO ASSISTANCE. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON AND KNOWN PROBLEM. *TC *B
THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING, HOWEVER THE CONSMER WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE SHIFTER FROM PARK TO DRIVE AS WELL AS REVERSE. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO MOVE IN THE OFF POSITION WHEN THE KEY WAS NOT IN THE IGNITION DUE TO THE SHIFTER MOVING FROM THE PARK POSITION. *TC
THE CONSUMER WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND WITHOUT WARNING, ANOTHER DRIVER CUT IN FRONT OF THE CONSUMER VEHILCE. THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THIS CAUSED THE OTHER VEHICLE TO COLLIDE INTO ON THE PASSENGER 'S SIDE AND PUSHED THE VEHICLE INTO A TREE. BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
GMC YUKON ANTI LOCK BRAKE PROBLEMS. ACTIVATION DURING SLOW SPEED STOPS.
AFTER EXPERIENCING ABS PROBLEMS AND IMMEDIATELY REPAIRING OUR 2001 GMC YUKON XL REGARDING THE CORROSION BETWEEN THE FRONT HUB/BEARING ASSEMBLY AND THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR LAST YEAR (THE HUBS AND SENSORS WERE CLEANED AND LUBED, NOT REPLACED), OUR ABS WARNING LIGHT APPEARED TWO WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR. WE ALSO BEGAN HEARING A RUBBING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT WHEELS WHEN DRIVING. WE NOTIFIED BOB SELLERS ABOUT THIS, AND THEY RESET THE ABS LIGHT. ON THE WAY HOME, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. WHEN WE TOOK THE YUKON IN TO BOB SELLERS TO INVESTIGATE FURTHER, THEY DID A COMPUTER SCAN CHECK WITH THE CODES INDICATING "PUMP MOTOR CK OPEN" AND PUMP MOTOR K SHORTED." THEY ALSO TYPED "CLEAR CODES ROAD TEST OVER 15 MILES, ABS DID NOT RESET CODES." BOB SELLERS NOW QUOTES US OVER $1,000.00 TO REPAIR THE MOTOR, SOMETHING WE CANNOT AFFORD. WE ARE VERY SUSPICIOUS HOW THIS OCCURRED IN TANDEM WITH THE REPAIR AND ARE ASKING FOR NHTSA TO PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. WHEN WE NEEDED OUR ABS TO ENGAGE DURING THE WINTER SEASON, THEY FAILED. OUR YUKON WAS RECENTLY TAKEN IN AGAIN WHEN THE RECALL REGARDING THE AFOREMENTIONED PROBLEM WAS ISSUED, AND ONCE AGAIN, ALL BOB SELLERS DID WAS CLEAN AND LUBE THE SENSORS, NOT REPLACE THEM. PLEASE ADVISE, SO MY FAMILY AND I ARE NOT AT RISK WITH THIS HORRIBLE BRAKE SITUATION AS THE WINTER SEASON APPROACHES. THANK YOU. *JB
CRASH WITH A VEHICLE WHO PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF US. WE WERE GOING 60+ MPH ON A 65 MPH MARKED HIGHWAY. OUR FRONT PASSENGER SIDE HIT THE OTHER VEHICLE'S DRIVER ('89 LINCOLN TOWNCAR) QUARTER PANEL. BOTH VEHICLES WERE TOTALLED BY INSURANCE. NO AIRBAGS IN MY VEHICLE DEPLOYED. FORTUNATELY, THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE HELD UP TO THE CRASH AND THERE WERE MINIMAL INJURIES. THE SEATBELT CAUGHT THE DRIVER AND THERE WASN'T ANYONE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OR THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN MORE INJURIES SINCE THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED AND NO REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR WAS DONE.*AK
INCONSISTENT TIRE WEAR ON 2001 YUKON XL, THE FRONT TIRE WEAR ALONG THE INNER SIDES (2 INCHES) FASTER THE REMAINING PORTION OF THE TIRE. TIRES ARE STOCK FIRESTONE 265R16 SIZE. THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT WAS CHECK SEVERAL TIME BY GM DEAL AND BY THIRD PARTY. EVERY TIME THE ALIGNMENT WAS WITH IN SPECS. THE TIRE HAVE BEEN ROTATED EVERY 10,000 MILES TO INCREASE USABILITY. TIRES FAILED AT 62000 MILES. THIS IS THE SECOND YUKON I HAVE OWNED WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. THE BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD. THE DRIVER NOTICED WHILE DRIVING,THE BRAKE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. THE CONSUMER DROVE TO THE DEALER FOR AM INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE SENSOR FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACEMED. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
INTERIOR ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, THEN A HUMMING NOISE HEARD UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE COMPARTMENT. GMC DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS FAILURE OF THE ABS ELECTRONIC MODULE UNIT. THEY ADVISED ME THAT IT WOULD BE $1200.00 DOLLARS($800.00 PARTS AND $400.00 LABOR COST) TO REPAIR. THIS BRAKE FAILURE OCCURRED AT 74,000 MILES. I'M PRESENTLY OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON JUST THE MAIN BRAKE SYSTEM, AFTER HAVING DISCONNECTED THE ABS SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND A CHEAPER AFTER MARKET REPLACEMENT ABS ELECTRONIC MODULE UNIT. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINT ON YOUR WEB SITE ABOUT THIS TYPE OF BRAKE FAILURE. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL RESULT IN A RECALL CAMPAIGN.*AK
2001 YUKON/XL PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT WORK. FAILED INSPECTION TWICE, FIRST REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AT ~15K MILES, SECOND FOR $225 AT ~65K MILES. NEVER HAS HELD. LAST TIME WAS ADJUSTED TO HOLD, DRAGS BRAKE WHEN RELEASED AS TOO TIGHT. OBVIOUS POOR DESIGN AND SAFETY HAZARD. CAN NEVER ASSUME PARKING BRAKE WILL HOLD. *JB
COMPLAINT AGAINST GENERAL MOTOR CORPORATION. *BF THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED THAT HIS VEHICLE CAME OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE WITH A DEFECT IN THE VOLTAGE TO BULB CONFIGURATION THAT CAUSED THE BULBS TO BURN OUT. *TC THE CRUISE CONTROL BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION AT 45000 MILES. THE TIRES LOSE AIR PERIODICALLY (SECOND SET). THE RUNNING BOARD LIGHTS FAILED. *NM
THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM ACTIVATES CONSISTENTLY AT LOW SPEEDS ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL. THE MANUFACTURER HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NO RECALL. THEY PLACE THE BLAME ON RUST AFFECTING THE SENSORS BUT I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM ON ANY OTHER ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM I HAVE HAD, NOR HAVE I EVER HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM RESULTS FROM THE SYSTEM'S DESIGN AND BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I STOPPED DRIVING MY VEHICLE BECAUSE THE FIRST OCCURENCES WERE STARTLING AND I NEARLY HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE SITUATION DID NOT CALL FOR A PANIC STOP BUT I WAS STARTLED WHEN IT ACTIVATED AND CONFUSED BY WHAT WAS HAPPENING. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A PEDESTRIAN AND CAUSED INJURY EVEN AT LOW SPEED. THE VEHICLE IS NOW IN FOR REPAIR, WHICH WILL COST A MINIMUM OF $200 PLUS REPLACEMENT OF ANY SENSORS WHICH MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BE CLEANED. I CONTACTED GM AND THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THE LIABILITY IS THE MANUFACTURER'S AND THE SYSTEM SHOULD BE MODIFIED OR CORRECTED TO PERFORM SAFELY IN ALL CLIMATES IN WHICH THEY MARKET VEHICLES. ESPECIALLY SINCE MANY OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES ARE MARKETED WITH 4-WHEEL AND ALL-WHEEL DRIVE PERFORMANCE AS A SELLING POINT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.*AK
THE PARKING AND EMERGENCY BRAKE ON THE VEHICLE WAS DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACK AND HAS BEEN SERVICED TWICE. *JB THE VEHICLE WOULD ROLL FRONTWARDS AS WELL. *SC
MY 2001 YUKON XL HAS EXPERIENCED A MECHANICAL PARKING BRAKE PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASE IN 2000. AT APPROXIMATE MILEAGE 11500 I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE GMC DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED TO COMPLAIN THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN APPLIED. THEY TOLD ME THAT WAS THE WAY IT WAS DESIGNED. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE TRIED TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES AND FOUND THAT IT DID NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE WHEN APPLIED. A FEW MONTHS AGO I HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED BY A NON GMC SHOP AND TOLD THEM ABOUT A "SWISHING/RUBBING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH NOW HAS APPROXIMATELY 73 K MILES ON IT. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS THE PARKING BRAKE PADS RUBBING ON THE ROTOR AND THAT THIS WAS A GMC DESIGN FLAW THAT GMC WAS WELL AWARE OF. I THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GMC SHOP, COURY GMC IN MESA, AZ, WHERE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. I AGAIN TOLD THEM OF THE NON FUNCTIONAL BRAKE AS I HAD PREVIOUSLY DONE AT THE 11.5K MILEAGE MARK. SERVICE PERSONNEL AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE WAS DESIGNED TO GO TO THE FLOOR WHEN APPLIED. THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE REAR ROTOR AND EMERGENCY BRAKE PAD WAS WORN OUT AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I SHOWED THEM THE PREVIOUS SERVICE ORDER FROM THE 11.5K MILEAGE MARK. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PARKING BRAKE AT THEIR EXPENCE BECAUSE TOO MANY MILES HAD ACCUMULATED BETWEEN COMPLAINTS. I LIVE IN THE ARIZONA DESERT AND CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT I HAVE APPLIED THEN RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE AS IT DOES NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO INDEPENDENT SHOP OWNERS THE PARKING BRAKE DESIGN IS DEFECTIVE AND WEARS OUT EVEN IF IT IS NOT USED. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY APPARENT IN MY CASE. NOT ONLY DOES THE PARKING BRAKE NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE WHEN APPLIED IT WEARS OUT WHEN NOT IN USE AND CAUSES DAMAGE TO THE REAR BRAKE ROTOR, A DEFINATE SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS NOT SURPRISED THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE COVERING THIS VERY ISSUE.*AK
PARKING BRAKE PREMATURELY WORN OUT. *AK
WHILE PARKING AND APPLYING THE PARKING BRAKE THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE DID NOT HOLD. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE STATES INSPECTION. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
A LOUD GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TIRE GARAGE FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT A ROCK GRAVEL WAS TRAPPED INSIDE OF THE TREAD, AND THE ROCKS WOULD CUT GROVES INSIDE OF THE ALLOY WHEELS. THIS CAUSED LOSS OF AIR PRESSURE FROM THE TIRES. *AK
ANTILOCK BRAKES CONSISTENTLY ENGAGING AT LOW SPEEDS
ABS AND TRACTION ASSIST WENT OUT..I HAVE 56000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE. OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ARE TRYING TO GET A RECALL OUT ON THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS..PRETTY SAD THAT GM CANNOT MAKE A LONGER LASTING AND MORE EFFICIENT VEHICLE.*AK
MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL HAS SUFFERED FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM MADE THE SUBJECT OF THE RECENT RECALL BY GM. THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED THREE TIMES AND LEFT MY WIFE AND CHILDREN STRANDED ON INTERSTATE 45 AND IN GALVESTON, TX. WE HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TWICE TO GM DEALERSHIPS WITH ONE DEALERSHIP KEEPING THE VEHICLE FOR A WEEK WITHOUT DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY SOLUTION THESE "CERTIFIED" MECHANICS COULD THINK TO DO WAS REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, WHILE I KNEW ALL ALONG THERE HAD TO BE SOME KIND OF SHORT IN THE FUEL SENDING SYSTEM. I HAVE SPENT OVER $1,000.00 IN REPAIRS AND TOWING CHARGES AND I STILL DON'T BELIEVE MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN PROPERLY REPAIRED. I CONTACTED GM ABOUT THE RECALL AND THEY HAVE REFUSED TO INCLUDE MY YUKON IN THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY SAY IT DOESN'T HAVE THE RIGHT VIN NUMBER. WHEN MY VEHICLE HAS SUFFERED FROM THE VERY PROBLEM MADE THE SUBJECT OF THE RECALL ON AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS, HOW COULD GM EXCLUDE IT FROM THE RECALL BECAUSE OF A VIN NUMBER. OBVIOUSLY GM HAS FAILED TO PROPERLY NOTIFY THE NHTSA OF ALL OF THE VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THE FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM PROBLEM, PROBABLY IN AN EFFORT TO MINIMIZE COSTS. HOWEVER, IT IS THE CONSUMERS LIKE ME THAT ARE AT RISK WHEN GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY FOR MANUFACTURING DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS. MY GMC YUKON XL NEEDS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND GM'S RECALL LIST NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL AFFECTED CARS, NOT JUST THE ONES THEY PICK AND CHOOSE. MY WIFE AND KIDS SAFETY ARE AT ISSUE HERE.
ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ACDELCO BATTERY POSITIVE TERMINAL CORRODED AND FELL OFF WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. NO VISIBLE SIGNS. FAILURE CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME, WITH VEHICLE EITHER RUNNING OR PARKED, AND AT ANY LOCATION. REPAIR IS A BATTERY REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR OF ACID-DAMAGED PARTS LOCATED UNDER THE BATTERY. I'VE SINCE LEARNED THAT THIS FAILURE IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE OF GM REPAIR CENTERS AND OTHER GM SUV VEHICLE OWNERS.*AK
LOST STEERING AND BRAKES. SHAFT IN PUMP SNAPPED OFF INSIDE HOUSING. TOWED TO GM GARAGE AND NEW PUMP INSTALLED. HAPPENED WHEN BACKING AND TURNING SHARPLY OVER ROUGH GROUND. NIGHT. 70 DEGREES. RETURNED TO CAMPGROUND USING TWO HANDS ON STEERING WHEEL AND PARKING BRAKE. ON 4000 MILE TRIP PULLING 3 TON TRAILER. WAITED 4 DAYS FOR REPAIR TO BE COMPLETED. *NM
AT APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES ON 2001 GMC YUKON XL, THE CAR BEGAN STALLING WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE OR WHEN IDLING AT RED LIGHTS, ETC. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH COMPLAINT. WE WERE TOLD IT NEEDED THE FUEL INJECTION SERVICE. WE HAD THIS DONE AT A LOCAL MECHANIC AND THE NEXT TIME WE REFUELED THE VEHICLE, WE SMELLED GAS AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS LEAKING FUEL. NOW ANY TIME WE COMPLETELY FILL THE VEHICLE WITH GAS, IT LEAKS AND YOU CAN SMELL GAS FOR A FEW DAYS. WHEN WE TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WITH THIS COMPLAINT, THE CAR WAS THEN OUT OF WARRANTY, AND THE DEALERSHIP WANTED $250 JUST TO LOOK AT THE GAS TANK TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG. WE DENIED THAT SERVICE. WE WERE MADE AWARE OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM THROUGH AN ARTICLE IN THE ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION ON 9/14/04.*AK
PARKING BRAKE FAILURE: RESULTS FROM ONE TIME DRIVING OFF WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON OR SIMPLY TOWING A TRAILER AND PARKING IT ON A HILL AND SETTING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE PARKING BRAKE ON THESE 1999-2002 GMC TRUCKS AND SUVS ARE A DANGEROUS. THEY GIVES NO INDICATION THAT THE PARKING BRAKE IS WORKING BECAUSE THE PEDAL FEELS THE SAME, NO RESISTANCE, WHEN WORKING AND WHEN NOT. OUR FRIENDS OWN A 2002 DENALI AND WE WERE AT A BOAT RAMP, HE BACKED THE DENALI WITH THE BOAT ON THE TRAILER ON THE BOAT RAMP, PARKED IT AND LOADED THE BOAT. CLIMBED BACK IN TO LAUNCH IT AND THE TRUCK'S TRANSMISSION HAD TORQUE LOCKED BECAUSE THE PARKING BRAKE FAILED. WE HAD TO GET OUR CAR TO TOW HIM SLIGHTLY FORWARD TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO RELEASE. IF THE PARKING PIN IN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO OVER EXERSION FROM LACK OF A FUNCTION PARKING BRAKE, IT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND MAJOR PROPERTY DAMAGE. WHEN WE TRIED TO FIX OUR PARKING BRAKE IN OUR DENALI, WE DISCOVERED THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE HUB AS WELL BECAUSE THE PADS HAD DESTROYED THE INSIDE OF THE HUB TO THE POINT THAT IT WOULD NOT WORK EVEN IF THE PADS WERE REPLACED. THIS IS THE CASE IN EVERYONE THAT WE KNOW WHO OWNS A GM TRUCK.*AK
ABS MODULE FAILURE AT AROUND 39,000 MILES. REMOVED ABS FUSE TO GET MOTOR TO STOP RUNNING CONTINUOUSLY, AS IT WAS EXTREMELY HOT. CALLED DEALERSHIP ABOUT REPAIRING THE MOTOR, BUT THEY DO NOT REPAIR THE MODULES, ONLY REPLACE ENTIRE MODULE FOR $1000 (WITH THE EXACT SAME MODULE). SENT MODULE TO A COMPANY THAT REPLACED THE FAULTY PARTS FOR $100, WITH PARTS THAT WELL EXCEED SHODDY OEM STANDARDS, WITH A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE PARTS AS WELL. *JB
WHEN FILLING UP THE FUEL TANK TO THE FULL LEVEL AN EXSESIVE LICKAGE STARTS IN THE FRONT TOP OF THE FUEL TANK FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE. NO DEATHS YET BUT ANY FIRE UNDER MY SUV DURING THE LICKAGE I'M SURE IT WILL BLOW UP!*AK
I HAVE A 2001 YUKON XL WHICH HAS HAD THREE INSTANCES OF KNOWN DESIGN FAILURES IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM -- BOTH EMERGENCY FEATURES, BOTH WELL KNOWN TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FIRST IS A KNOWN DESIGN DEFECT IN THE RETAINING CLIP OF THE EMERGENCY/PARKING BRAKE MECHANSIM. AS A RESULT THE PARKING BRAKE WILL WEAR OUT WITHIN 20-30K MILES. THE SECOND IS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN THE EBCM (BRAKING CONTROL MODULE) WHERE THE ABS MOTOR SHORTS INTO A ALWAYS ON POSITION. THE ONLY WAY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IS TO REMOVE THE ABS FUSE AND DO WITHOUT THE ABS FEATURE. NEITHER KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE HAS A RECALL ASSOCAITED WITH IT. *AK

WHEN DRIVING AT ANY SPEED VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO OVERDRIVE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT TRANSMISSION FAILED. *AK
ABS BRAKE FAILURE ON MY GMC 2001 YUKON01. 1ST FAILURE OCCURRED AT 18000 MILES. DEALER WOULD ONLY FIX IF I SPEND $600 ON ALL NEW ROTORS & PADS(ALL 4 WHEELS). ASK TO CHECK ALL OTHER SENSORS AT THE TIME. THEY SAID THE WHERE OK. 2 ND FAILURE 1800 MILES LATER. WOULD FIX FOR $495
FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL AT, LT245/75R16, DOT VN11BAC4200. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE TREAD CAME OFF THE TIRE AND BEGAN TRAMPING. TREAD PEELED OFF THE TIRE. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. THE TIRE STILL MAINTAINED ITS AIR PRESSURE. CONSUMER CHECKED THE AIR PRESSURE AFTER THE OCCURRENCE, AND THE PRESSURE WAS 84 PSI. THE TIRE WAS NOT OVERLOADED, AND IT WAS NOT UNDER PRESSURE. *AK
THE RIGHT WINDOW HINGE ON THE REAR "LIFT GATE" HAS BROKEN AFTER 68,000 MILES AND THREE AND HALF YEARS OF USAGE. THE HINGE HAS FAILED DUE TO FATIGUE FROM NORMAL, OCCASIONAL USE ON A WELL MAINTAINED, GARAGE KEPT VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE, IN MY OPINION AS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER, IS A FACTORY DESIGN DEFECT. THE SAFETY ISSUE I HAVE WITH THIS PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER HINGE BREAKS, THE GLASS NO LONGER SEALS PROPERLY AND HANGS AJAR ALLOWING EXHAUST GASES TO BE VACUUMED INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THIS PROBLEM REQUIRES A $1400 GM OR A $600 DOLLAR AFTER MARKET REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW. THIS IS EVEN MORE DISHEARTENING KNOWING THAT IT WILL ULTIMATELY FAIL AGAIN IN THREE YEARS. THREE WINDOWS WOULDN'T GO DOWN. THE ELECTRIC MOTORS WERE BAD. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM OCCUR WITH THIS MAKE/MODEL A LOT AND WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR GMC DEALERS. THE ONLY WINDOW THAT DOES WORK IS WHERE THE MOTOR HAD BEEN REPLACED BY A PREVIOUS OWNER. *AK THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS THE STATE INSPECTION DUE TO THIS ISSUE. *SC *JB
THE ABS CONTROL SYSTEM FAILED ON MY 2001 YUKON XL AT 42,000 MILES. IT FAILED AGAIN AT 88,000 MILES. GM SAID THIS IS AN ISOLATED PROBLEM. IT IS NOT. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS IN THIS VEHICLE. *JB
2001 GMC YUKON. ABS MODULE FAILED CAUSING PUMP TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY. RATHER THAN PAY $1,000 FOR REPAIR, OPTED TO HAVE FUSE PULLED (SUGGESTED BY GMC SERVICE MANAGER). ABS LIGHT ON DASHBOARD STAYS LIT CONSTANTLY NOW. SO DOES THE BRAKE LIGHT. PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE HAS NOT WORKED FOR THREE YEARS NOW. TWO WEEKS AGO THE TRACTION ASSIST OFF LIGHT CAME ON AND NOW IT STAYS LIT UP TOO. FROM WHAT I READ IN THE OWNERS MANUAL, THIS PROBLEM MAY POSSIBLY BE RELATED TO THE ABS. AFTER MUCH INTERNET RESEARCH, I HAVE COME TO LEARN THAT PROBLEMS REFERENCED ABOVE ARE QUITE COMMON WITH GMC VEHICLES. SINCE THE PROBLEMS ARE RELATED TO THE BRAKING CAPABILITY OF THE VEHICLE I BELIEVE THERE ARE SOME SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. NOT TO MENTION THE FACT THAT I WILL LOSE APPROXIMATELY $1500-$2000 VALUE WHEN I TRY TO SELL THIS VEHICLE. *NM
MY 2001 GMC YUKON WITH 4-WHEEL DISC BRAKES FAILED STATE INSPECTION DUE TO WORN OUT (NON-FUNCTIONING) EMERGENCY BRAKES. I HAVE ONLY USED THEM FOR PARKING ABOUT 10 TIMES & NEVER FOR EMERGENCY STOPPING. THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THEM, TOLD ME THAT DUE TO A CLIP DESIGN PROBLEM, THEY TYPICALLY WORE OUT WITHOUT USE, RIGHT AFTER THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED. THE LININGS WOULD NOT REMAIN STRAIGHT & WOULD WEAR PREMATURELY. THEY CHARGED ME FOR SOME OF THE REPAIR ($100) BUT IT SEEMS THAT IT SHOULD BE COVERED AS A RECALL. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER NOTICED AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT FLASHING THROUGHOUT TRAVEL AT ALL TIMES. DEALERSHIP SERVICED VEHICLE, AND NOTICED BRAKE CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHEN PUMPING GAS IN THE GAS TANK, THE GAS WOULD LEAKS FROM THE FILLER PIPE. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE OWNER THAT THE WIRING HARNESS HAS MELTED FROM THE FUEL PUMP. *AK
THE EBCM WENT OUT ON MY 2001 GMC YUKON ABS SYSTEM CAUSING THE ABS PUMP TO RUN CONTINUALLY EVEN WITHOUT THE KEY ON. PULLING THE FUSE STOPPED THE PUMP FROM RUNNING, BUT I DON'T HAVE ABS, WHICH TO ME IS A SAFETY CONCERN. GM SHOULD RECALL THIS MODULE FOR SAFETY REASONS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS A LONG LIST OF VEHICALS WITH THIS KNOWN PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THIS PART DUE TO THE $1000 PRICE FROM THE DEALER, NOR DO I INTEND TO UNTIL GM ISSUES A RECALL ON THIS DEFECTIVE PART. FOR THE MONEY THAT I GAVE GM FOR THIS VEHICAL, I EXPECT MORE CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT THIS, I HAVE GIVEN THEM ENOUGH MONEY FOR THEM TO JUST BRUSH MY SAFETY (AND OTHERS' SAFETY AS WELL) ASIDE. *AK
1-AT LOW SPEED BRAKING (3-5MPH), THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM CAUSES THE PEDDLE TO PULSATE AND GROON. SEVERAL TIMES THE SYSTEM JUST GAVE UP AND ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO SLIDE INTO INTERSECTIONS, BEFORE STOPPING. 2-NO CONSEQUENCES YET 3- TOOK 2001 YUKON XL TO LOCAL GMC DEALER, FOR SERVICE. DEALER REPORT WAS LEFT FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY WAS HEAVILY CORRODED. FRONT ROTORS WERE RUSTY AND NEEDED TO BE CUT, REAR ROTORS WERE RUSTY AND NEEDED TO BE CUT, ALSO REAR PADS NEED REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 26,000 MILES. VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AT THIS TIME, FEELING THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE HUB ASSEMBY AND REPLACING OTHER PARTS ARE NOT TOTALLY NECESSARY. *AK
VEHICLE HAVING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH SEATBELTS. *MR THE FRONT SEAT BELT WOULD NOT PULL OUT OR RETURN TO POSITION, TWO WEEKS LATER, THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT. THE REAR SEAT BELT EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. THE BATTERY LEAKED ACID FROM THE POSITIVE BATTERY POST AND THE MATERIAL ON THE DRIVERS SEAT WAS WEARING OUT. *SC *JB
I OWN A 2001 GMC YUKON XL. FOR THE PAST 6 MONTHS... I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR ELEMENT. CONSUMER CALLED AND COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKES, INTERMITTENTLY AT EVERY 600 MILES AVERAGE, THE ABS SYSTEM NEED TO BE REPLACED AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSES. DEALER INDICATED THAT CONSUMER NEEDED TO CLEAN THE SENSOR AND THE BEARING,. ALSO, THEY STATED THAT GMC AND NHTSA HAS A TSB ON THIS ISSUES. *AK
THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION.THE VEHICLE WAS HIT BROADSIDE, AND THE SIDE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS STRUCK BY A VEHICLE WHO HAD RUN A RED LIGHT. *SC *JB
CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE WAS INOPERATIVE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE CAUSE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. AK
2001 YUKON XL PARKING BRAKES INOPERATIVE. FAILED DEALER INSPECTION. HE SAID THEY JUST WEAR OUT. INTERESTING, MY VEHICLE HAS 60000, AND THE DISC BRAKES ARE STILL THE ORIGINAL. I HAVE RARELY USED THE PARKING BRAKE. MAYBE ON A HILL ONCE OR TWICE. THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM OR A MODULE PROBLEM AND GMC IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND ITS NOT COVERED ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THE ABS WENT OUT AT 40000, AND WAS COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I'M PERPLEXED ABOUT GMC'S LACK OF CONCERN FOR ITS PRODUCTS AND SAFETY.*AK
WHEN DRIVING, THE ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONSUMER PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND PARKED THE VEHICLE ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, AND SMELLED A GAS ODOR. THE CONSUMER GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO INVESTIGATE THE SMELL, AND NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. THE CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WIRING FAILED, CAUSING THE FUEL TO LEAK FROM THE FUEL TANK. *AK A SMALL LEAK WAS FOUND IN THE EVAPORATIVE FUEL SYSTEM. THE CONSUMER NOTICED GAS LEAKING AT A RATE OF A QUART PER 5 MINUTES AND APPEARED TO BE COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK. THE MECHANIC FOUND FUEL LEAKING FROM AROUND THE CONNECTOR WHICH HOUSED WIRES FROM THE FUEL PUMP AND THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. *SC *JB
