TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL DENALI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE EMERGING FROM THE FRONT END DIFFERENTIAL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILED, BUT THE DEALER WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE INSPECTED BY A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. THE FAILURE REOCCURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
VEHICLE ROLLS WHILE IN PARK. HAD PARKING PAWL REPLACED, PROBLEM PERSISTED. PROBLEM IS MORE OBVIOUS THE GREATER THE INCLINE. VEHICLE IS NOT FREEWHEELING BUT HAS SOME RESISTANCE.
I HEARD A SLIGHT GRINDING NOISE, THAT SOUNDED LIKE A BRAKE DRAGGING. I REPLACED BRAKES ALL THE WAY AROUND, AND THAT DIDN'T STOP THE NOISE. I THEN REPLACED ALL THE WHEEL BEARINGS, THIS DID NOT HELP EITHER. I TRIED THE U-JOINTS WITH NO LUCK. I WAS TALKING TO THE PERSON THAT I GOT THE VEHICLE FROM AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR END HAD BEEN REBUILT TWICE! THIS WAS BEFORE I GOT THE VEHICLE, AND IT ONLY HAD 67000 ON IT WHEN I GOT IT. SINCE THEN I HAVE TALKED TO MANY YUKON OWNERS, AND THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES. *TR

UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BUT THE REPLACEMENT HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED.
2001 YUKON XL SUV WITH 81182 MILES ON IT. TRANSMISSION MADE A POPPING SOUND (NO FORWARD GEARS, BUT REVERSE GEARS). SUV HAS UPGRADED TRANSMISSION THAT HAD A SUPPOSEDLY BETTER MODEL "FRONT PLANET" PART PER GMC TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. THAT SUPPOSEDLY SUPERIOR "FRONT PLANET" SPLIT INTO (2) PARTS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION ALTHOUGH IT IS ONE MOLDED PIECE. RESULTING EXPLOSION OF METAL CAUSED A $2703.52 TRANSMISSION REBUILD. I HAVE THE DIGITAL PHOTOS AND THE ACTUAL FAILED PARTS!*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE SERVICE INDICATOR INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ALL 4-WHEEL DRIVE POWER WAS COMPLETELY LOST IN THE VEHICLE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE CASE SHIFT CONTROL MODULE FAILED. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED FOUR TIMES SINCE 2004. THE DEALER REPLACED THE CASE SHIFT CONTROL MODULE EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT BELIEVES IT SHOULD NOT FAIL EVERY 12 MONTHS. SHE BELIEVES THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,946 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,000.

I PURCHASED A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 06/15/01. IN THE EARLY 40K MILE PERIOD ON MY 2001 I STARTED HEARING A ROAD NOISE THAT I THOUGHT WAS MY NEW TIRES. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO MARLOW-WERNER PONTIAC GMC IN PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA ON 3/06/03 AT 44,792 MILES AND TOLD THEM I HAD SOME SORT OF TIRE NOISE IF THEY COULD CHECK OUT. THEY REPORTED NO PROBLEM. THE NOISE KEPT GETTING LOUDER DURING A 6 HOUR TRIP. UPON RETURNING TO TOWN WE TOOK IT INTO TUFFY AUTO SERVICE CENTER IN PORT CHARLOTTE. WE TOLD THEM WE THOUGHT IT WAS A BEARING NOISE AND TO PLEASE CHECK IT OUT. THEY HAD THE KNOWLEDGE TO PUT IT ON THE LIFT AND PUT IN GEAR AND REALIZED IT WAS THE REAR END. WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO MARLOW-WERNER AND TOLD THEM WHAT TUFFY HAD SAID. THEY CHECKED OUT THE VEHICLE AND TOLD US THE COMPLETE REAR END NEEDED TO BE REDONE. THE BEARINGS WERE SCORED AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS, PINION, AND SIDE BEARINGS. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT THE DEALER EVERY 3K MILES AS PER MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS. I HAVE NEVER KNOWN A NEW VEHICLE WITH 40K MILES HAVE THE REAR END GO OUT THIS WAY. I FEEL THERE IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THEY SHOULD HAVE REPAIRED IT AT NO COST TO ME. THEY CHARGED ME 50% OF THE REPAIR COST UNDER THE GOODWILL WARRANTY. I FEEL THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE CHECKED INTO FURTHER AND SHOULD HAVE NOT HAPPENED WITH THE LOW MILEAGE AND IS A SAFETY CONCERN. I CALLED GMC ON 4/2/03 AND SPOKE WITH DARREN CHRISTENSEN WHICH IS A CONSUMER RELATIONS MANAGER. THE FILE NUMBER IS #1-867-42264. HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW HOW I DROVE MY VEHICLE AND IF I HADN'T DROVE ON IT FOR SO LONG THE REPAIR WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SO EXTENSIVE. I WAS FURIOUS. I TOLD HIM THAT I USE MY VEHICLE TO TAKE MY TWO KIDS TO SCHOOL AND ON VACATIONS AND WAS NOT A HARD DRIVER. HE TOLD ME HE COULDN'T HELP ME ANY FURTHER AND THAT THEY WOULD ONLY COVER THE 50%. I JUST WANT THIS NOTED IN CASE THERE ARE OTHER CONSUMERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE REAR PINION/BEARINGS. *JB
MULTIPLE FAILURES WITH 2001 YUKON. DASHBOARD LIGHT, AIR BAG AND COMPUTER MALFUNCTIONED. PROBLEMS STARTING AFTER ACCELERATING. *BF THE VEHICLES COMPUTER MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING DASHBOARD LIGHTS, AIRBAG, L.E.D, AND BRAKE LIGHTS TO TURN ON. THE SPEEDOMETER FROZE. WHEN THE CONSUMER WOULD PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND PROPERLY. THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS SPURACTICALLY. *TC
