DRIVING VEHICLE AT APPROX 45MPH, CAME TO STOP AT RED LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. PUMPED THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN AND NOTHING. DOWN SHIFTED TRANSMISSION TO SLOW DOWN AND PRESSED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LIFTED THE HOOD NO BRAKE FLUID IN REAR SECTION OF MASTER CYLINDER. NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING UNDER THE FRONT OF THE DRIVERS DOOR ON THE GROUND. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKE LINE WAS DRIPPING FLUID. THE BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND THE FRAME IS REALLY RUSTED. JUST GOT THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE GMC SHOP FOR ROUTINE SERVICE. CAN'T FIGURE WHY THEY DIDN'T NOTICE OR AT LEAST TELL ME THAT I MIGHT HAVE A PROBLEM.I CALLED THEM AND ADVISE WHAT ISSUE I WAS HAVING. THEY ADVISED THAT GM WOULD NOT COVE THE ISSUE AND 1300.00 WOULD MAYBE COVER THE LINE REPLACEMENT PLUS. I AM NOT HAPPY. WORKED HARD TO BUY THIS VEHICLE AND NOW THAT I AM RETIRED FROM THE MILITARY I REALLY DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPLACE THE LINES AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE RUSTY FRAME. *TR
THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF THE TRUCK. IS HELD ON BY A HOIST AND CABLE SYSTEM. THE CABLE BROKE ALLOWING THE TIRE TO FALL TO THE GROUND. LUCKILY THE VEHICLE WAS BEING BACKED OUT OF THE GARAGE AND NOT GOING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT HAPPENED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL FOR MY FAMILY OR OTHERS ON THE ROAD! SO FAR I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND GMC. THEY WANT TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW DO NOT WANT TO COVER THE PART BECAUSE ITS MORE THAN SEVEN YEARS OLD. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. THIS PART FAILED AND COULD HAVE CAUSED INJURY TO MY FAMILY AND OR OTHERS. INCIDENT HAPPENED THIS MORNING ON 12/9/11. *TR
I USUALLY OPEN THE WHOLE TAILGATE TO ACCESS THE REAR CARGO AREA, HOWEVER SINCE I WAS TOWING A TRAILER I OPENED THE REAR GLASS TO RETRIEVE AN ITEM. WHEN I PUSHED DOWN TO CLOSE THE REAR GLASS, I NOTICED THAT THE GLASS DID NOT FIT TO CLOSE PROPERLY. I OPENED THE GLASS AND SAW THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE HINGE ON THE REAR GLASS WAS BROKEN AND PARTIALLY SEPARATED FROM THE REAR GLASS. THIS RESULTS IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION, AS THE REAR GLASS IS NOW SECURED TO THE TRUCK WITH A SINGLE HINGE AND THE LATCH. I AM WORRIED THAT IF I DRIVE THE TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY THE WHOLE REAR GLASS WILL HAVE A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE AND INJURE DRIVERS BEHIND ME. USING A PLASTIC HINGE AT A POINT UNDER HEAVY LOAD SEEMS LIKE AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW. *KB

WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT A LOW SPEED NEAR STOPPING THE BRAKE KICKS BACK AS IF THE ABS BECOMES ACTIVATED AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE IS INCREASED. THIS OCCURS ON ALL SURFACES WET OR DRY. THE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED AND THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. THE SAME VEHICLE (YEAR/MAKE/MODEL) HAS A RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT I HAVE BEEN TOLD MY VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL PER THE VIN NUMBER. THE GM RECALL NUMBER IS 05068 AND YOUR REPORT NUMBER IS 05V521000. [XXX]. THE SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO ENTER THIS AS MY VIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON XL 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE LEAKS WHENEVER IT RAINS. THE ROOF IS LEAKING FROM THE FACTORY MADE ROOF RACK BECAUSE IT IS CORRODED AND CREATED A HOLE. WATER ACCUMULATES IN THE SEATS AND UNDER THE MATS, CAUSING MILDEW AND MOLD. AS A RESULT, HIS FAMILY BECOMES ILL WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS. THE DEALER STATED THAT DUE TO THE SALT WATER RAIN, THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE IS KEPT OUTSIDE AND HAS EXCESSIVE MILEAGE, AND THE CONTACT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE FOR FREE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SERVICED SINCE THE TIME IT WAS PURCHASED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIRS; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT MUST PAY OUT OF POCKET. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON DENALI. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED FOR SEVERAL DAYS IN AN UNCOVERED DRIVEWAY IN THE RAIN. WHEN THE CONTACT OPENED THE DOOR OF THE VEHICLE, HE NOTICED THAT WATER PENETRATED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE CARPET, SEATS, AND SEAT BELTS WERE DAMAGED WITH MILDEW. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AVAILABLE. HE WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER ESTIMATED THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSIS TO BE APPROXIMATELY $165 TO BE PAID BY THE CONTACT. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 78,000.
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE METAL CLASHING ON METAL. THE CONTACT TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A A DEFECTIVE FLEX PLATE. HE FELT THAT THIS WAS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE FAILURE COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF THE ABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THIS WAS A HUGE CONCERN FOR ANYONE WHO WAS PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILER. THE CONTACT COULD PROVIDE PICTURES IF NEEDED. THE FAILURE WAS 80,000 MILES. *AK THE NOISE WAS NOTICED A IDLE AND PARTICULARLY AT ACCELERATION. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FLEX PLATE CONNECTING THE CRANK TORQUE CONVERTER WAS FRACTURED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBABLE FAILURE MODE ON THIS PART IS FLEXURAL FATIGUE WHICH WOULD RESULT MISALIGNMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT AND THE CRANKSHAFT, OR EXCESSIVE RUN OUT ON THE ATTACHMENT SURFACE OF EITHER THE CRANKSHAFT OR THE CONVERTER. I OPENED BACK REAR LIFT GLASS AND IT MADE A VERY STRANGE NOISE. I CLOSED IT THEN NOTICED IT WAS NOT SITTING STRAIGHT SO I OPENED IT AGAIN TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. WHEN I TRIED TO CLOSE IT AGAIN IT WOULD NOT LOCK AND THEN ONE HINGE HOLDING THE GLASS ON JUST BROKE AND THEN THE GLASS WAS ONLY HELD ON BY ONE HINGE AND WAS COMPLETELY CROOKED. I CONTACTED GMC DEALER AND THEY SAID $1,100.00 REPAIR BECAUSE THEY HAD TO REPAIR THE WHOLE GLASS PLUS THE HINGES. I FOUND OUT THAT A COUPLE OTHER PEOPLE IN MY SMALL AREA HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEN I FOUND SOMEWHERE ON THIS WEBSITE THERE HAD BEEN 3 MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. WHEN I SPOKE WITH GMC THEY SAID IT WASN'T ANYTHING I DID AND IT WASN'T DUE FROM WEAR AND TEAR THAT IT JUST BROKE. APPARENTLY THE PART THAT BROKE ON MINE WAS THE WELDING CAME OFF. I THINK IF AN INVESTIGATION IS STARTED THAT GMC WILL FIND OUT THERE ARE A LOT MORE PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
TAILGATE LIFT ASSIST PISTONS FAILED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, MAKING THE OPENING AND LIFTING OF THE REAR TAILGATE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO WEIGHT. THIS ISSUE REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE TWO PISTONS. WITHOUT A FIX THE VEHICLE OWNER HAS TO PROP OPEN THE TAILGATE WITH A HOMEMADE SUPPORT WHICH CAUSES A SERIOUS DANGER OF INADVERTANT SLIPPING AND CLOSURE OF THE HEAVY TAILGATE WHICH IS AN IMMENANT DANGER TO SMALL CHILDREN, ELDERLY. VEHILCE IS A 2001 AND THESE PARTS SHOULD HAVE A LONGER LIFE EXPECTANCY.
THE REAR LIFTGATE HINGES, THAT ARE GLUED TO THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS, HAS COME FREE FROM THE GLASS. NEITHER THE GLASS LIFTGATE OR HINGES ARE DAMAGED, THE ATTACHING COMPOUND (I.E. GLUE?) HAS FAILED. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER A FACTORY EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT GMC CANNOT REPAIR THE DEFECT. THEY MUST REPLACE UNDAMAGED ITEMS IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE FAILED ADHESIVE.*JB
CONSUMER PURCHASED A VEHICLE THAT WAS 3 INCHES TALLER THAN SAFETY REQUIREMENT. WHEN DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE. CONSUMER WAS PULLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS TOO TALL. VEHICLE WAS FINALLY IMPOUNDED BY HIGHWAY PATROL DUE TO SAFETY STANDARDS. *AK
THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS. THE UPPER RIGHT HINGE ON THE GLASS TO THE LIFTGATE BROKE. THE ENTIRE GLASS UNIT HAS TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER WHO HAS BEEN OF NO ASSISTANCE. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON AND KNOWN PROBLEM. *TC *B
THE RIGHT WINDOW HINGE ON THE REAR "LIFT GATE" HAS BROKEN AFTER 68,000 MILES AND THREE AND HALF YEARS OF USAGE. THE HINGE HAS FAILED DUE TO FATIGUE FROM NORMAL, OCCASIONAL USE ON A WELL MAINTAINED, GARAGE KEPT VEHICLE. THIS FAILURE, IN MY OPINION AS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER, IS A FACTORY DESIGN DEFECT. THE SAFETY ISSUE I HAVE WITH THIS PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER HINGE BREAKS, THE GLASS NO LONGER SEALS PROPERLY AND HANGS AJAR ALLOWING EXHAUST GASES TO BE VACUUMED INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THIS PROBLEM REQUIRES A $1400 GM OR A $600 DOLLAR AFTER MARKET REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE REAR WINDOW. THIS IS EVEN MORE DISHEARTENING KNOWING THAT IT WILL ULTIMATELY FAIL AGAIN IN THREE YEARS. REAR LIFT GATE GLASS AT HINGE HAS COME APART.*MR THE BONDING MATERIAL HOLDING THE HINGE TO THE WINDOW FAILED. *TS *JB
SOME GM PRODUCTS, INCLUDING MY 2001 GMC YUKON, DO NOT COME WITH A DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM. GM HAS WRITTEN, INDICATING THAT THERE IS A "STANDARD" DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM WHEN THERE IS NOT. GM HAS MADE AN APPARENT MISREPRESENTATION, FOOLING CUSTOMERS INTO BELIEVING THAT THE COURTESY DOME LIGHT SYSTEM (WHICH TURNS ON WHEN THE DOOR IS OPEN) IS A DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM. I HAVE SEEN OTHER INTERNET COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SYSTEM IN GM PRODUCTS. IT POSES A GRAVE DANGER TO OCCUPANTS. IS THERE LEGISLATION REGARDING A DOOR AJAR WARNING SYSTEM AND CAN ANYTHING BE DONE ABOUT GM? BELOW ARE EXAMPLES OF WHAT CAN OR HAS OCCURRED. A DRIVER ENTERS A YUKON ALONG WITH THREE PASSENGERS. THE DOME LIGHT WILL TURN ON NO MATTER WHAT AT THIS JUNCTURE BECAUSE THE DOORS WERE OPENED, SO THERE WOULD NOT BE CAUSE FOR ALARM AS DOORS CLOSE. ONE OF THE THREE PASSENGERS DOES NOT CLOSE HIS/HER DOOR COMPLETELY. THE DRIVER PUTS THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND STARTS THE VEHICLE. THE LIGHT TURNS OFF. NO DOOR AJAR WARNING. ANOTHER EXAMPLE: I OPENED A REAR PASSENGER DOOR OF MY YUKON AND THE DRIVER'S DOOR. THE DOME LIGHT TURNED ON, BECAUSE IT IS APPARENTLY A STANDARD FEATURE FOR THE LIGHT TO COME ON WHEN A DOOR IS OPENED FOR PEOPLE TO GET IN AND OUT. I THEN PUSHED THE PASSENGER DOOR TOWARDS IT'S HOUSING JUST ENOUGH FOR METAL TO TOUCH METAL (OR THE APPARENT SENSOR), BUT STILL "OPEN" IN THAT, WITHOUT ENGAGING THE DOOR OPENING MECHANISM, I COULD STILL PULL IT OPEN. I THEN ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND CLOSED IT (ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR). I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND THE DOME LIGHT TURNED OF. ANYONE COULD HAVE PUSHED OR PULLED THE PASSENGER DOOR OPEN. EXAMPLE: I BEGAN BACKING OUT OF MY HOUSE ONE DAY WHEN ONE OF THE DOORS BEGAN TO OPEN. NO DOOR AJAR LIGHT WAS ON. HAD THIS OCCURRED ON THE OPEN ROAD, A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE RESULTED. THE DOORS ON THIS SUV ARE ALREADY HEAVY, AND IT IS VERY EASY TO HAVE A DOOR AJAR.*AK
