I LOST ALL BRAKING ABILITY WHILE TRAVELING THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID FLOWING FROM THE MAIN BRAKE LINE FEEDING THE ANTI-LOCK CONTROLLER.
WHILE TRAVELING TO WORK MY VEHICLES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE REDUCED POWER WARNING CAME ON AT WHICH TIME I HAD COMPLETE LOSS OF ACCELERATION, COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKING, AND COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING POWER. I THEN HAD TO COAST TO A STOP AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE 6 TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET THE REDUCED POWER WARNING TO GO OFF AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ALTHOUGH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME IN 2 DAYS WITH THE LOSS OF POWER. I HAVE HAD THE REDUCED POWER WARNING ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS YEARS PAST BUT NEVER HAVE I LOST TOTAL / ABSOLUTE POWER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, THIS IS A TOTAL DEATH TRAP FOR ANYONE WHO HAS HAD THIS EXPERIENCE, ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAY OR HIGHWAYS AT HIGH SPEEDS. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE AFFECTING OTHER GMC OWNERS AND HAVE SEEN NO RESOLUTIONS OR ANY RECALLS FROM GMC. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE THROTTLE HOUSING AND HARNESS COMPONENTS, ACCELERATION PEDAL SENSOR AND YET THE ISSUE CONTINUES, SOMEONE IS GOING TO ( DIE ) BECAUSE OF GMC'S LACK OF CONCERN AND RESPONSIBILITY TO OWNERS OF THEIR PRODUCTS. I WILL NEVER EVER OWN ANOTHER GMC ASSOCIATED PRODUCT.
THERE IS AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT DISPLAYS ON THE DASH FOR MYSELF AND THOUSANDS OF OTHERS WHO OWN GMC/CHEVY TRUCKS WITH THESE MOTORS. THEY HAVE A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR WITH THE TRUCK WHERE IT SAYS "REDUCED ENGINE POWER". I'VE FOUND 2 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS THAT SOMEWHAT ADDRESS THE ISSUE, BUT MANY PEOPLE TAKE THEIR TRUCKS TO MECHANICS AND DEALERSHIPS TO GET THE ISSUE FIXED AND SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS AND TROUBLESHOOTING TO GET THE ISSUE RESOLVED, TO NO AVAIL. THE 2 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS THAT I FOUND WERE #PIP3089B (DATED 10/31/2006) AND #PIP3042A (DATED 8/30/2004). I'VE SEEN ON MANY MANY FORUM POSTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND POSSIBLE FIXES, WHICH WHEN I READ DEEPER INTO THEM, SEEM TO NOT BE TRUE FIXES.
I KEEP HAVING THE DISPLAY SAY "REDUCED ENGINE POWER". I'LL BE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, DOING 65 IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE ACCELERATOR NO LONGER ACCELERATES AND IT DISPLAYS "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER DISPLAY. FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN ONLINE IT APPEARS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR ON THOUSANDS OF OTHER SIMILAR VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE, CHEVY SUBURBAN'S, SILVERADO'S, TAHOE'S, ETC. I REPLACED THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR AND THE HARNESS (BECAUSE I HEARD THE HARNESS MIGHT ALSO BE AN ISSUE) AND I AM STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK. IT HAS DONE IT OVER A DOZEN TIMES ON ONE TRIP BACK FROM WORK (80 MILES FOR ME). I HAVE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD (IF POSSIBLE) AND TURN OFF THE TRUCK, THEN WAIT A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME, THEN TURN THE TRUCK BACK ON. THIS USUALLY FIXES THE ISSUE, BUT IT DID NOT HELP ME WHEN IT HAPPENED TO ME IN THE TUNNEL AND I WAS GOING 5 MPH (TOP SPEED DURING THE "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" MODE, ONCE YOUR DRIFTING STOPS (BECAUSE YOU DRIFT, IT DOESN'T ENGAGE THE BRAKES). I WAS EXTREMELY WORRIED THAT I WOULDN'T MAKE IT OUT OF THE TUNNEL WITHOUT GET REAR ENDED, AND ONCE I MADE IT OUT, I WAS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE TUNNEL AWAITING ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE, IT WAS VERY FRIGHTENING, WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR.
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 14MONTH OLD BABY IN THE CAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAD NO BRAKES AT ALL. MY PARKING BRAKE COULDN'T STOP ME EITHER SO I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THEN FORCED IT INTO PARK SO I DIDN'T CRASH. THE BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND I DIDN'T HAVE ANY NOTICE OR IDEA UNTIL THE BRAKES WERE ALREADY GONE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC YUKON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED INDEPENDENT DECELERATION AND THE REDUCED ENGINE POWER WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP, SPARK PLUGS, TRANSMISSION, AND ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND TRANSFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
JUST BOUGHT CAR ELECTRICAL HAS BEEN ACTING UP FOR A WHILE NOW (30 DAYS) AND NOW DASH HAS GONE OUT SUNROOF WONT OPEN PR CLOSE AND DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER WINDOW DOESNT WORK AUTO STORE WONT FIX OR TAKE BACK CAR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT FENDER OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE PAINT ON THAT FENDER WAS BUBBLING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,832.
IWAS DRIVING AT LOW SPEED WENT TO STOP AT STOP SIGN WHEN BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR.I CRASHED INTO STOP SIGN TO STOP . TRUCK WAS TOWED TO DEALER. I WAS TOLD TO MAJOR BRAKE LINE BURST. TRUCK IS NOW AT DEALER BEING FIXED. AT A PRICE OF 2800.00. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. THIS CAN'T GO ON ANY LONGER.
WHILE SITTING IDLE MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT INTO REDUCED ENGINE POWER MODE. I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER AND PULL OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE CAR. 5 MINUTES LATER THE CAR STARTED LIKE THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS THE REP WARNING WOULD SHOW UP AND MY CAR WOULD SUDDENLY LOSE POWER. I WAS CROSSING THE ROAD DURING ONE INCIDENT. HOWEVER, WHEN I WOULD SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTART THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD GO AWAY AS WOULD THE REP WARNING. AFTER A QUICK REVIEW ONLINE IT IS EASY TO FIND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE A SIMILAR ISSUE. GM WILL ONLY DIAGNOSE AND IF THE LIGHT IS OFF WHEN YOU GET THERE THERE IS NOTHING FOR THEM TO DO EXCEPT TAKE YOUR MONEY AND SAY GOOD LUCK.
REAR BRAKE LINE BURST WITHOUT WARNING AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION THE BRAKE LINE IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. *TR
THERE IS A RECALL #05068 THAT DESCRIBES EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING MY CAR. IT OCCURS EVERY TIME I DRIVE MY CAR, EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE AND BRAKE. (2003 GMC YUKON XL). HOWEVER, GMC CLAIMS MY CAR "ISN'T EFFECTED" AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT. MY ISSUES ARE 1. GETTING DANGEROUS, AS THE CAR BOGS AND WON'T ACCELERATE WITHOUT A PERIOD OF HESITATION AND THEN IT GIVES TOO MUCH ACCELERATION WHICH CAN BE BAD IF I'M ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE. ALSO, THERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THESE VEHICLES WHICH IS ANOTHER PROBLEM I AM EXPERIENCING: 2. MY ABS KICKS IN RANDOMLY, EVEN IF THE PAVEMENT IS TOTALLY DRY AND CLEAR. APPARENTLY, THIS IS CAUSED BY A CORRODED MOUNTING SURFACE FOR THE FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THE CORROSION BUILDS UP CAUSING EXCESSIVE GAP BETWEEN MOUNTING SURFACE AND WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WHICH CAUSES A LOSS OF WHEEL SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL. WHEN THE ABS MODULE SEES THE LOSS OF SIGNAL IT THINKS THE VEHICLE IS SLIDING OUT OF CONTROL SO IT WILL ACTIVATE THE TRACTION CONTROL OR ABS. DESCRIPTION FROM RECALL #05068: CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES MAY EXPERIENCE UNWANTED ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION. THIS CONDITION IS MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR IN ENVIRONMENTALLY CORROSIVE AREAS. THIS RECALL WILL BE LAUNCHED IN THE "SALT BELT" STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT... HAZARD:THIS CAN CAUSE INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING LOW-SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
BRAKE LINE GOING TO REAR BRAKES WAS RUSTED OUT. SITUATION LUCKILY HAPPENED WHILE MY WIFE WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. NO HARM OR INJURY OCCURRED. DISABLED VEHICLE. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWS THAT ALL BRAKE LINES ARE SUSPECT AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
A DOG RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR HAD IT CHECKED AT BALE CHEVROLET IN LITTLE ROCK ARK. WANTED TO CHARGE ME 6800.00 TO REPAIR HAD IT TOWED BACK TO IL. WHERE I LIVE THAT COST WAS 500.00 BESIDES 200 MILES THAT WAS COVERED BY AAA I,M A 62 YR OLD WOMAN HAD MY GRANDCHILDREN WITH ME IN LITTLE ROCK ARK THIS EXPERIENCE WAS THE SCARIEST TIME IN MY LIFETIME NO WARNING JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN NO BRAKES IN THE WORST TRAFFIC EVER. THE MONEY SPENT ON THIS TRIP WAS VERY EXPENSIVE NOT TO MENTION THE STRESS. *TR
I HAD A BRAKING PROBLEM MARCH 2015, CORROSION OF THE BRAKE LINES. I HAVE A 2003 YUKON 2500 QUADRASTEER. I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK WHEN THE BRAKES WENT. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT!!!!! I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL PRACTICALLY TO THE FLOOR, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL INTO A PARKING LOT. WHEN I GOT OUT THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT FROM THE BRAKE LINES TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. WHY GM RUNS THE LINES RIGHT ALONG THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE UNDERCARRIAGE IS A MYSTERY TO ME. IT IS JUST GOING TO BE EXPOSED TO SALT! I LIVE IN MICHIGAN AND WE USE A LOT OF SALT IN THE WINTER MONTHS. YES THINGS DO RUST, BUT I ALWAYS WASH THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF MY TRUCK! IT'S A CASE OF POOR ENGINEERING AND IT LEADS TO PREMATURE CORROSION. I AM A MOTHER OF 3 YOUNG CHILDREN AND THANK GOD THEY WERE NOT IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED TO ILLUMINATE AND NONE OF THE GAUGES FUNCTIONED. IN ADDITION, THE DIGITAL DISPLAY WAS NOT FUNCTIONING DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
FOUND A BROKEN OFF EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT ON DRIVEWAY 3 YEARS AGO. FOUND ANOTHER BROKEN ONE TODAY. BOTH ARE FROM THE SAME SIDE. NOW INSTEAD OF 6 BOLTS I HAVE 4 BOLTS. ANTILOCK BRAKES BEGAN TO APPLY THEMSELVES IN RIGHT HAND TURNS GOING UP AND DOWN HILL AT SPEEDS UP TO 45 MPH. ALMOST CAUSES ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. HAD TO TAKE TO HURRICANE CHEVROLET SEVERAL TIMES TO GET FIXED COST ALMOST $4000
WHILE STOPPING FROM LOW SPEEDS THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES ON DRY SURFACES. THIS CAUSES INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES. *JS

MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HER SON, OUR GRANDSON, HOME FROM SCHOOL IN MY YUKON. AS SHE WAS LEAVING THE CITY LIMITS JUST STARTING TO GET UP TO LEGAL 55 MPH AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. SHE FORTUNATELY SAW A BODY SHOP AND MANAGED TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE IN THERE AND DOWN SHIFTED TO STOP. SHE WAS FORTUNATE TO FIND THIS LOCATION. AS YOU LEAVE TOWN THERE IS A LARGE HILL WE ARE THANKFUL THE BRAKES DID NOT FAIL AS SHE WAS GOING DOWN IT. I JUST AM UPSET THERE WAS NO WARNING, AND WE FIND OUT THE WHOLE BRAKE LINE FAILED. IT IS HARD TO IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND KEEPING UP WITH TRAFFIC, I NOTICED MY SPEED WAS 75MPH. SLOWING DOWN TO THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT I WAS SUDDENLY GETTING PASSED UP BY EVERYONE. IT WASN'T UNTIL I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND WHILE WAITING AT A STOPLIGHT I NOTICED THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 10MPH (WHILE STANDING STILL). CHECKING GMC AND CHEVROLET FORUMS ONLINE, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AND A DEFINITE SAFETY CONCERN. THE READING ON THE SPEEDOMETER WHILE IN PARK NOW VARIES BETWEEN 10-20 MPH, AND I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA HOW FAST I'M ACTUALLY TRAVELING WHILE DRIVING. I'VE MADE AN APPT WITH THE DEALER TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT, AND I'M SURE THE REPAIRS WILL BE EXPENSIVE! *TR
I HAD A PANIC STOP WHILE DRIVING MY SUV, AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, OFFERING ALMOST NO BRAKING ABILITY. THIS CAUSED ME TO SHARPLY SWERVE AROUND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, DRIVE THROUGH A RED LIGHT AT A BUSY INTERSECTION INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, AND FIND A SAFE PLACE TO LAND. I HAD MY 11 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND 9 YEAR OLD SON WITH ME, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DEADLY. *TR
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE, NO BRAKES. STEEL BRAKE LINE RUSTED THROUGH ON FRAME RAIL NEAR GAS TANK CAUSING FLUID CONTAINER TO EMPTY COMPLETELY. NO ADVANCED WARNING LAMP OR INDICATION OF FAILURE. TO REPLACE THE LINE, THE FUEL TANK MUST BE REMOVED. DEALER CHARGE $800.00 AND UP. *TR
LOSING POWER THROUGHOUT MY VEHICLE. STARTED WITH THE OVERHEAD HEATING/COOLING CONTROLS. VEHICLE WILL LOCK ITSELF WITHOUT ANY KEYS WHEN DOORS ARE SHUT. (IT HAS LOCKED ME OUT ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS) WORKED ITS WAY BACK TOWARDS THE REAR LOSING OVERHEAD LIGHTS. HEATER/AC DOES NOT WORK IN THE REAR. PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR WINDOW OR SEAT BELT DOES NOT WORK. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE GOES CRAZY. AND NOW THE MAIN (FRONT) HEATING AND COOLING CONTROLS ARE GOING APE [XXX] CRAZY. DRIVING HOME WHEN I PUSH THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES DIDN'T WORK, BRAKE SERVICE WARNING CAME ON UPON CHECKING ALL THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AND WHEN IT PRESS THE BRAKES IT APPEARS THE PRESSURE PUNCTURE A LINE. *TR
CAR PULLED IN FRONT OF ME, HAD TO APPLY MAXIMUM BRAKING EFFORT. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK GRADUALLY SLOWED. FURTHER ATTEMPTS TO DRIVE AND BRAKE WERE FUTILE. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP AND COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. LUCKILY NOBODY WAS INJURED IN THIS COLLISION. AFTER INSPECTION, I NOTICED FLUID ON THE GROUND AT THE REAR LEFT (DRIVER'S SIDE REAR), AND LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE TO SEE WHERE THE FLUID MAY BE COMING FROM. I SAW THAT THERE WAS FLUID COATING A LARGE AREA OF THE UNDERBODY, AND ALSO SEE THE BRAKE LINE ATTACHED TO THE FRAME AS WET AND RUSTED. I HAVE PICTURES SAVED AS A REFERENCE. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING UP IN THE MOUNTAINS AND WE LOST POWER BRIEFLY TO THE ENGINE. THE LIGHTS FLICKERED AND THE DASH BOARD WENT OUT. THEN THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER CAME ON AND THE STABILITY/TRACTION CAME ON TOO. THIS HAS HAPPENED WEEKLY FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. THIS LAST TIME WAS ALARMING SINCE WE WERE COMING DOWN A MOUNTAIN IN A STORM AND COULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED UP THERE WITH NO RUNNING VEHICLE TO KEEP US WARM. THIS NEEDS TO GET A RECALL OR INVESTIGATION GOING ON THESE VEHICLES. IF YOU GOOGLE THIS ISSUE YOU WILL SEE THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THAT ARE AFFECTED WITH THIS ISSUE. IT WILL KILL PEOPLE IF THEY EXPECT TO HAVE POWER TO GET THROUGH AN INTERSECTION FAST ENOUGH AND THE VEHICLE GIVES OUT ON THEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 60 MPH... WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A CHIMING NOISE AND MY "SERVICE BRAKE SYSTEM" ALERT CAME ON! I THEN ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN AND TO MY UNFORTUNATE DISCOVERY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. (SCARY) I LET THE VEHICLE COAST A BIT TO SLOW DOWN AND TRIED PUMPING MY BRAKES.. I DID SOME RESEARCHING- CALLING A FEW DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND SERVICE LOCATIONS AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST ANYWHERE FROM $1,500 TO $600.00 TO HAVE THE LINES REPLACED,ECT. I AM FURIOUS THAT GM IS TRYING TO THROW THIS ON THE CONSUMER STATING THIS WAS A "MAINTENANCE ISSUE"... I HAVE READ NUMEROUS STORIES OF PEOPLE (REAL PEOPLE) HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT GM WANTS TO SAY THIS IS OUT FAULT!!?!?!? NO WAY... IS THERE ANY RECOURSE? ON 9/16/14, I GOT INTO MY CAR AND STARTED THE ENGINE. UPON STARTING THE ENGINE, BOTH AIRBAGS BLEW UP. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR IMPACT, THEY JUST BLEW UP. THERE WAS NOBODY IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND THAT ONE BLEW UP TOO. I REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO GM AND THEY INVESTIGATED IT AND HAVE DENIED PAYING TO REPAIR DAMAGES. THEY SAY THERE WAS CORROSION IN THE AIRBAG SENSOR. NOWHERE IN THE OWNERS MANUAL DOES IT SAY THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING THESE CONNECTIONS. THIS IS A LIFE SAFETY DEVICE THAT SHOULD BE ASSEMBLED WITH THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CARE A PRECISION. THIS IS NOT THE RESPONSIBILITY OR THE OWNER OR OPERATOR, IT IS FAULTY EQUIPMENT AND SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF GM. NOW I HAVE A CAR THAT I CANNOT DRIVE, IT HAS TWO BLOWN AIRBAGS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE FIRST OCCURRENCE IN SEPTEMBER 2014. "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" AND SERVICE ENGINE SOON SIGNALS APPEAR ON VEHICLE PANEL CAUSING ENGINE POWER TO BE REDUCED IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. HAS HAPPENED TO ME GOING 10MPH, 55MPH, AND 70MPH ON HIGHWAY, CAUSING A NEAR REAR COLLISION BECAUSE I LOST POWER SO QUICKLY. I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED 6 OR 7 TIMES SINCE SEPTEMBER 2014 AND THIS ISSUE IS NOT GETTING RESOLVED. THROTTLE BODY SENSOR REPLACED TWICE, THROTTLE BODY HARNESS REPLACED, ALL WIRES, AND SENSORS HAVE BEEN CLEANED AND THOROUGHLY INSPECTED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 55 COMING FROM SIKESTON MO HEADED TO ST LOUIS WITH MY FAMILY. AS I WAS DRIVING I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE TRUCK HAD BEGUN TO VIBRATE AFTER PULLING OF I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS FLUID LEAKING OUT. DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN BRAKES WENT SOFT AND FAILED PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD, TOWED CAR HOME REPLACING ALL BRAKE LINES DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. *JS
THE PROBLEM: BRAKES FAILED WHILE VEHICLE WAS RUNNING. AFTER A HARD BRAKE AT A STOPLIGHT AND DRIVING BRIEFLY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR BARELY STOPPING THE VEHICLE. BRAKES WERE EXTREMELY MUSHY TO NON-EXISTENT AT TIMES. REPAIR WORK: LOCAL GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED OUT AND THEY REPLACED IT FOR CLOSE TO $1,600. PER THE INVOICE REPAIRS INCLUDED: BRAKE SYSTEM REPAIR/LABOR, BRAKE FLUSH KIT, PIPE KIT AND FLUID. (WHEN ASKED ABOUT BRAKE LINE ISSUES LATER, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS REGARDING THEM WITH GMCS.) HOW IT HAPPENED: WHILE DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE, I HAD TO BREAK HARD WHEN I CAME AROUND A BEND TO A RED STOPLIGHT. THOUGH THE BRAKES WORKED, THEY FELT LIKE THEY WERE GIVING JUST A LITTLE AFTER I FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. WE PRECEDED ANOTHER 15-MILES WITH NO INCIDENT AND PULLED INTO RESTAURANT DRIVE-THRU. WHILE SITTING IN THE DRIVE-THRU LANE WITH THE VEHICLE IN GEAR AND MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, ALL OF A SUDDEN MY FOOT WENT TO STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE JUMPED FORWARD. THANKFULLY THERE WAS ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME SO THAT I DIDN' HIT THEM. I IMMEDIATELY SHIFTED IT OUT OF GEAR TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. AT THIS TIME I NOTICED A WARNING LIGHT HAD COME ON INDICATING TO CHECK BRAKES AND THAT THE ABS WAS OFF. I TESTED THE VEHICLE IN A NEARBY EMPTY PARKING LOT TO SEE IF IT WAS STILL DRIVABLE AND THE BRAKES APPEARED TO HAVE ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF 'STOPPAGE' THOUGH THE PEDAL WAS TO THE FLOOR. UNABLE TO STOP, THEY ROLLED THROUGH A STOP SIGN AND PULLED INTO A CHURCH PARKING LOT. UPON INSPECTION, BRAKE FLUID WAS DRIPPING FROM A RUSTED BRAKE LINE JUST INSIDE THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE CHARLOTTE, NC AREA MOST OF ITS SERVICE LIFE. ANNUAL TRIPS TO NORTHERN MICHIGAN WITH PROPER POST TRIP WASHINGS SHOULD NOT HAVE CREATED THIS AMOUNT OF RUST AND CORROSION ON KEY COMPONENTS SUCH AS THE BRAKE LINES. THIS KNOWN PROBLEM MUST RELATE TO THE INFERIOR QUALITY OF METAL OF GM ALLOWED THE SUPPLIER TO USE. THE NUMEROUS FAILURES I'VE READ ABOUT HAVE NOT BEEN LIMITED TO THE NORTHERN CLIMATES AND CONSEQUENTLY WILL RESULT IN NUMEROUS DEATHS AS THESE VEHICLES AGE FURTHER. THERE I DISCOVERED EXCESSIVE BRAKE FLUID LOSS COMING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WHEEL/SUSPENSION AREA. DEALER REPAIR REPORT: "FOUND VEHICLE TO HAVE LOST BREAKING ABILITY. FOUND REAR BRAKE LINES FROM ABS HUB RUSTED OUT CAUSING SYSTEM TO LOOSE BRAKING. REMOVED AND REPLACED REAR BRAKE LINES FROM ABS HUB TO MASTER." CONSIDERING THE BUSY HIGHWAY I WAS ENTERING AND ABSOLUTE NO WARNING FROM THE VEHICLE EITHER BY ELECTRONICS OR "FEEL", I CONSIDER IT A MIRACLE I WAS NOT IN A CRASH OR WORSE. AS I WAS DRIVING ON 95N OF COLLEGE PARK, MD, MY VEHICLE POWER SEEM TO SHUTDOWN ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE "REDUCE POWER ENGINE" MESSAGE APPEARED IN MY INSTRUMENTATION PANEL.
