MY SON AND I WERE GOING NORTH ON RT 1 IN REHOBOTH BEACH AND STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND SMELLED GAS. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND GAS WAS LEAKING FAST FROM THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK. TOOK IT STRAIGHT UP TO MY MECHANIC [XXX] AT EMERY CHASSISWORKS AND LEFT IT FOR HIM TO CHECK. HE FOUND THE METAL GAS PUMP HAS RUSTED OUT ON TOP AND WAS PUMPING GAS ALL OVER. .HE SAID HE ONLY FOUND ONE OTHER YUKON WITH THAT PROBLEM. ALL THE OTHERS HAD A PLASTIC TOP (THAT COULD NOT RUST). THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS (ANY CIGARETTE, SPARK, ETC.) AND WE WERE BLOWN UP. WHY DIDN'T I HAVE THE GAS PUMP ON TOP OF THE GAS TANK WITH A PLASTIC TOP THAT DOESN'T RUST. VERY DANGEROUS. MY 18-YEAR OLD DAUGHTER NARROWLY ESCAPED DEATH THE EVENING OF MAY 1ST WHILE DRIVING MY 2004 GMC YUKON DENALI. SHE WAS IN A RELATIVELY "ROUTINE" ACCIDENT IN WHICH SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND STRUCK A TREE HEAD-ON IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA OF COLORADO SPRINGS. A GOOD SAMARITAN PULLED HER FROM THE VEHICLE SECONDS BEFORE THE VEHICLE ERUPTED INTO A MASSIVE FIREBALL THAT COMPLETELY GUTTED THE VEHICLE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I AM ENORMOUSLY TROUBLED BY THE FIREBALL -- NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAPPEN IN THIS TYPE OF ACCIDENT. I AM REMINDED OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE FORD PINTO AND FORD EXPLORER AND WORRY THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE THAT MAY COST OTHERS THEIR LIVES. I PURCHASED AND METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I WANTED SOMETHING BIG, HEAVY AND SAFE TO PROTECT MY FAMILY, NEVER ANTICIPATING THIS HORRIFIC SCENARIO. WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO INVESTIGATE THIS INCIDENT? I HAVE MOST OF MY MAINTENANCE RECORDS, THE POLICE REPORT, PHOTOGRAPHS, NEWS ACCOUNTS, YOUTUBE VIDE, ETC. USAA IS MY INSURER. THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS BUT I HAVE ASKED USAA TO HOLD THE VEHICLE SO THAT YOU OR ANOTHER APPROPRIATE AGENCY CAN CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION. *TR
THE TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY RUSTED THROUGH ALLOWING GAS FUMES TO ENTER THE VEHICLE AND THE GARAGE IN WHICH THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED. IT ALSO CAUSED HARD STARTING. THE REPLACEMENT FUEL PUMP WAS OF A DIFFERENT DESIGN WITH THE TOP BEING CONSTRUCTED OF ALUMINUM AND BRASS AND NOT STEEL TO PREVENT RUSTING. *TR

I WAS DRIVING ON DELAWARE ROUTE # 1 DOING THE SPEED LIMIT (65MPH) IN MY 2004 GMC YUKONXL WHEN I LOST POWER TO THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF OF THE HIGHWAY ON THE RIGHT SHOULDER EVEN WITHIN FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. AFTER ASSESSING THE SITUATION I REALIZE THAT MY MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING WITH THE DASH INDICATORS SHOWING THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE REDUCED POWER SIGNAL LIGHT ON. WHEN TRAFFIC HAD CLEARED I ATTEMPTED TO GO BACK ON THE HIGHWAY BUT FOUND I COULD ONLY TRAVEL BETWEEN 35-40 MILES PER HOUR. KNOWING THAT THERE WAS A GM DEALER AHEAD IN 15-20 MILES I CONTINUED ON RT #1 SINCE THE SPEED LIMIT AHEAD WAS REDUCED TO 55MPH. WHEN I REACHED THE GM DEALER I.G.BURTON IN MILFORD DELAWARE I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I EXPLAINED MY SITUATION AND WAS TOLD THAT I PROBABLY HAD A BAD THROTTLE BODY (CARBURETOR) AND THAT IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THEY SEEMED TO SAY THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM. I WENT AHEAD AND HAD THE WORK DONE AT THAT POINT FOR A COST OF $568.32. *TR

THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME WHEN I GO TO THE GAS STATION AND TRY TO PUMP GAS, THE PUMP ALWAYS SHUTS OFF. IT HAPPENS WHEN I PUMP GAS MANUALLY OR USE THE LEVER ON THE GAS PUMP. I PULL OUT THE GAS NOZZLE AND RE-INSERT IT AND IT CONTINUALLY HAPPENS. IT IS VERY ANNOYING TRYING TO FILL UP THE 26 GALLON GAS TANK. *NM
THIS VEHICLE CONTINUES TO LEAVE US ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER IT IS THE FUEL PUMP. THEY HAVE REPLACED 3 TIMES NOW BUT STILL STALLING, WON'T START, DIES WHILE DRIVING, ETC... SO FAR THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED, THE DEALER JUST KEEPS CHANGING THE FUEL PUMP. THEY TELL US GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMPS ON THESE SUV'S. *NM
WHEN FILLING GAS TANK, GAS PUMP KEEPS CLICKING OFF AS IF THE TANK IS FULL. ALTHOUGH, THE FILLING PROCESS HAS JUST STARTED. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE VEHICLE HAS RECEIVED REPAIRS FOR THIS ISSUE.. *TR
OUR 2004 GMC YUKON CONTINUES TO STALL WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY DURING HOT WEATHER AND ON INCLINES. FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED ON 6/29/05, 7/29/05, AND ON 9/6/05. DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT PROBLEM WITH NEW FUEL PUMPS. *NM

WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DO SO. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *LA THE CONSUMER WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY A DUMP TRUCK AS A RESULT OF THE ENGINE SHUTING DOWN WHILE DRIVING. *TC
