[XXX] NOVEMBER 21, 2006 I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY, AND I NOTICED SMOKE STREAMING FROM THE TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN. I TOOK THE EXIT OFF THE FREEWAY. THE CAR WAS LOSING POWER, AND JERKED WHEN I GAVE IT GAS. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE TOW TRUCK. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MARIN HONDA, A NEAREST DEALER. NOVEMBER 24, 2006 THEY TESTED AND FOUND THE ELECTRICAL PORTION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD FAILED. THEY REPLACED IT BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE (TRANS GEAR SELECTION) LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT IT'S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PROBLEM. MARIN HONDA CHARGED US $205 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION SWITCH. NOVEMBER 24, 2006 EVER SINCE THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED, THE TRANS GEAR SELECTION BEGINS TO FLASH WHEN THE ENGINE IS ON. AND IT MAKES A CLUNK SOUND AND THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES WHEN THE GEAR IS SHIFTED TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. I CALLED THE MARIN HONDA SERVICE ADVISOR AND SAID THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM MUST BE RELATED TO THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT, BUT HE WAS ADAMANT THAT IGNITION SWITCH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TRANSMISSION. HE SAID IT IS PURE COINCIDENCE THAT BOTH THE IGNITION AND TRANSMISSION HAD PROBLEMS AT THE SAME TIME. NOVEMBER 28,2006 DECEMBER 1, 2006 THE MECHANIC AT PETALUMA HONDA SAID THAT THE RANGE SENSOR IS MALFUNCTIONING AND THERE ARE A FEW WIRES DANGLING WHICH MAY BE WHY THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT WORKING. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT WE TAKE THE CAR BACK TO MARIN HONDA. I DROVE THE CAR TO MARIN HONDA. DECEMBER 2, 2006 EDDIE PARNELL, SERVICE MANAGER AT MARIN HONDA SAID THAT THEY'VE REPLACED THE RANGE SENSOR BUT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. HE THOUGHT IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION. HE SAID THAT THEY CONTINUE CHECKING. DECEMBER 9, 2006 AFTER EIGHT DAYS, JACK, SERVICE ADVISOR AT MARIN HONDA, CALLED AND SAID THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS OR WHILE STOPPED, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED EACH TIME, AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE STARTER WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. UPDATED 12/05/06. *JB
TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE 1999 HONDA ACCORD WITH 80000 FAILURE MILEAGE AT 45 MPH AND COMING TO A RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE STOPPED, BUT IN AN ATTEMPT THE DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IT DID NOT MOVE, IT JERKED FORWARD EVENTUALLY. ALSO, THE VEHICLE HAD PROBLEMS SHIFTING INTO GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP AND A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS RECOMMENDED. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED RECALL # 02V120000 FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH WAS PERFORMED IN 2003. THE IGNITION FAILED AGAIN, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL, WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH. THE STALLING HAD OCCURRED 30 TIMES. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED.
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
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS IN SNOWY CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO SUSTAIN TRACTION CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED ALL FOUR TIRES WERE PREMATURELY WORN, BUT DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THAT TIME DUE TO THE REMAINING TREAD. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, AND THE CONTACT REFERRED TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE TREAD WEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. THE TIRES WERE CONTINENTAL CONTITOURING 195/65R15, DOT RADIAL 91HCH95.
ALTERNATOR BRACKET CRACKED TWICE IN ONE YEAR. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED WHEN SHIFTED INTO REVERSE OR 1ST GEAR. THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH GEARS AND TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS SEEN ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT SERVICE DEALER, THEN BY THE SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
1. TRANSMISSION FLUID STARTED LEAKING ON 99 ACCORD EX WITH >92100 MILES. ESKRIDGE HONDA TIGHTENED BOXTON BOLT. LEAKING GOT WORST. TOOK CAR BACK 2 DAYS LATER. ESKRIDGE STATED A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD BE REQUIRED BECAUSE THE INSPECTION REVEALED THAT IT WAS THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS EXPERIENCED BY OTHER MODELS -- 00-0 MODELS WHERE HONDA USA PROVIDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO REPLACE THOSE TRANSMISSIONS. 2. FROM MY RESEARCH, OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING SIMILAR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ON THEIR 99 HONDAS, BUT THERE'S BEEN NO RECALLS. 3. SINCE I VIEW IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE, I PLAN TO PAY IF NECESSARY TO REPLACE IT, SINCE I DON'T WANT MY 16-YR SON DRIVING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE. 4. IS NHSTA AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM ON THE 99 HONDAS? IF SO, WHAT'S THE STATUS OF YOUR ACTIONS IN GETTING HONDA USA TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY FOR 99 HONDAS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH PRIOR TO EACH INCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE USUALLY RESTARTS AFTER WAITING LESS THAN ONE MINUTE. UPDATED 10/04/06. *JB
DEFECTIVE EGR VALVE ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW WHEN I PURCHASED IT AND IT ONLY HAS 96K MILES. I AM THE ONLY OWNER. IT BURNS OIL AND NO ONE CAN DETERMINE WHY. I JUST REPLACED 2 VALVES DUE TO THE OIL AND NOW MY EGR VALVE IS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. AFTER REVIEWING THE COMPLAINTS, THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE EGR VALVE FOR A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE SEEN. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD BE EITHER DIFFICULT TO START OR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE VEHICLE STALLED EACH TIME IT WAS STARTED. THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS FAILED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER A SAFETY RECALL THE FIRST TIME. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE HAD ALREADY BEEN REPAIRED UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL, AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. TWO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS WERE REFERENCED: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) AND 05V025000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH). THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 183,144 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 149,227.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A PIECE OF METAL DETACHED FROM THE SLIDER OF THE DRIVER SEAT, CAUSING FREE MOVEMENT OF THE SEAT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, WHO INSTRUCTED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHERE THE SEAT ATTACHES TO THE FRAME, THE SEAT WAS ONLY HELD ON BY A SPOT-WELD. UNDER NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, THE SPOT WELD BREAKS LOSE CAUSING THE SEAT TO ROCK BACK AND FORTH. THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER SEAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH ABOUT 6-8 INCHES. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
MY HUSBAND AND I BOUGHT A 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX IN 2002. NOT LONG AFTER BUYING THE CAR WE NOTICED THAT THE CAR ACTED SLUGGISH WHEN GOING FROM A STOP. IT WASN'T THAT MUCH OF A PROBLEM SO WE DIDN'T DO MUCH ABOUT IT OTHER THAN ADDING HEET TO THE GASOLINE THINKING WE HAD BAD GASOLINE. THEN WE STARTED NOTICING A SORT OF GRINDING NOISE WHEN WE WOULD START THE CAR WHICH CAME FROM THE KEY IGNITION. THE CAR WOULDN'T START SO WE WOULD TRY AGAIN AND THEN IT WOULD START. THIS YEAR 2006 WE STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR STALLING WHEN WE WOULD STOP AT STOP SIGNS. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND WE PAID FOR NEW SPARK WIRE AND PLUG. SOON AFTER THE CAR STARTED STALLING AS WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY! WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK CAR TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE WE WERE TOLD OUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED! MY HUSBAND DIDN'T THINK THIS WAS THE PROBLEM SO WE DIDN'T HAVE IT REPLACED. THE CAR KEPT ON GETTING WORSE ALMOST CAUSING A COUPLE OF ACCIDENTS WHEN IT WOULD QUIT GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. WE THEN HEARD OF A RECALL ON 1999 HONDA ACCORDS THROUGH CONSUMER REPORTS. WE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AGAIN BUT WERE TOLD WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE OUR CAR WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL! WE CALLED HONDA CORP TO FIND OUT WHY IT WASN'T INCLUDED AND WERE TOLD THEY RECALLED ONLY CERTAIN MAKES AND MODELS AND OURS WASN'T ONE OF THEM. WE OF COURSE WENT AHEAD AND HAD THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED. WE CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY HONDA DIDN'T HAVE OUR MODEL AND MAKE RECALLED WHEN WE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. AT THE VERY LEAST WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD OF A PROBLEM SO WE COULD HAVE REPAIRED IT RIGHT AWAY. WE DID KEEP THE IGNITION SWITCH. WE JUST HAD THE CAR REPAIRED BUT HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT STALLING. *NM

PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT THERE WAS A RECALL PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID # 05V025000; ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH. 1,000 MILES LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED SUDDENLY IN TRAFFIC. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS BAD AND REPLACED THE SWITCH.
THE CLEAR COAT ON MY '99 HONDA ACCORD IS FADED AND THE PAINT HAS STARTED TO COME OFF IN MANY SPOTS. *TR
THE BOLT HOLDING THE MAIN CRANK SHAFT PULLEY CAME LOOSE CAUSING ALL EXTERIOR BELTS TO COME OFF AS WELL AS THE INTERIOR TIMING BELT, SHEARED THE WOODRUFF KEY, AND WARPED PULLEY. THE ENGINE SHUT-OFF BECAUSE TIMING WAS NOW OFF ON ENGINE AND THE PISTONS CAME UP AND BENT SOME VALVES. NOW I AM OUT $3,000 DOLLARS IN REPAIRS. PER MYCARSTATS.COM, THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS BOLT/ DESIGN ASSEMBLY CAME DEFECTIVE FROM MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY WORK RELATED TO THIS BOLT AND PULLEY. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT FOR 6 HOURS, THE BACK WINDSHIELD SHATTERED OUTWARDS. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE TO ENSURE THAT IT WAS NOT VANDALIZED. THE GLASS WAS CRACKED INTO TINY PIECES. THERE WAS NOTHING TO INDICATE A FOREIGN OBJECT AS THE CAUSE OF THE INCIDENT. AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN, THE GLASS FELL INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE ON TO THE BACK SEAT. *AK

CONTINUOUS ENGINE CHECK LIGHT POINTING TO FAILURES IN THE EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM. MONETARY LOSS IS BECOMING UNACCEPTABLE. *JB
{NHTSA RECALL 02V120000}. MY VEHICLE EXIBITED THE EXACT SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED IN THIS RECALL, YET HONDA DEALERSHIPS ADVISED MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THEREFORE, I HAD TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT. I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE PART. HOW CAN I VERY IT IS THE SAME AS THE ONE RECALLED IN ORDER TO GET REIMBURSEMENT.
1999 HONDA ACCORD: DRIVER'S WINDOW. LESS THAN 60,000 MILES USUALLY PARKED MOST OF THE DAY. DRIVER'S WINDOW WOULD GO DOWN BUT NOT UP. WAS TOLD "DUE TO USE - WINDOW WIRE GEARS STRIPPED. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS OCCUR AND DROVE TAURUS TO 120,000 UNDER SAME CONDITIONS. I COULD SEE IT IF THERE WAS MORE THAN SLIGHT USE OF THE WINDOW!!! COST $282 TO REPLACE GEAR. (MIDWEST LOCATION) *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL # 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH). THE CONTACT FELT THAT HER VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED. AS OF JULY 10, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 109,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
ON AT LEAST TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD SPONTANEOUSLY QUIT WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT THEN RESTARTED IMMEDIATELY. ON AT LEAST TWO OTHER SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE WOULD APPEAR TO START, BUT WOULD QUIT IMMEDIATELY WHEN THE KEY WAS RELEASED FROM THE START POSITION. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AS A FAULTY ELECTRICAL PART IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. I HAVE LEARNED THAT SOME HONDA MODELS MANUFACTURED DURING THE SAME TIME FRAME AS MY VEHICLE HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM, BUT I WAS INFORMED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THIS RECALL. CONSIDERING THE HISTORY, IT SOUNDS AS IF NOT ALL OF THE PROBLEMATIC CARS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AND/OR RECALLED. THE PROBLEM IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE. LOSING POWER TO A VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS COULD LEAD TO CATASTROPHIC CONSEQUENCES. AS A RESULT, I FEEL THAT MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PART OF THAT RECALL. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO IDENTIFY AND CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AT MY EXPENSE BEFORE IT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *NM
OVER THE LAST TWO MONTHS, MY ACCORD EX HAS STALLED NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS, MAJOR STREETS, AND A COUPLE OF TIMES IN THE MIDDLE OF MAJOR INTERSECTIONS. NOT ONLY DOES IT STALL, BUT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO START UP AGAIN. I SOMETIMES HAVE TO SIT WHEREVER I MAY BE FOR 10-15 MINUTES WHILE TRYING TO START UP AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER LAST WEEK TO HAVE THE RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH TAKEN CARE OF, I WAS INFORMED IT WAS ALREADY DONE IN OCTOBER 2002. YET, THEY TOLD ME MY PROBLEM WAS A BAD IGNITION SWITCH. THEY PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THAT HONDA HAS NO OBLIGATION TO FIX IT SINCE THEY HAVE ALREADY REPLACED IT ONCE. WHEN I COMPLAINED THAT 3 1/2 YEARS WAS AN UNUSUALLY SHORT LIFE FOR AN IGNITION SWITCH, ESPECIALLY AFTER A RECALL, I WAS GIVEN THE HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER TO CALL AND COMPLAIN. UPON CALLING, I WAS AGAIN TOLD THAT HONDA HAS NO OBLIGATION TO DO ANYTHING. I CONTINUED TO COMPLAIN. FINALLY, THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD FILE A CASE FOR INDIVIDUAL REVIEW. TODAY, I RECEIVED THE DECISION THAT MY CASE DOES NOT QUALIFY AS A "GOODWILL CASE" BECAUSE MY CAR DOES NOT RECEIVE ITS MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALER. (WHY SHOULD I WHEN I CAN GET THE SAME WORK DONE FOR 1/3 TO 2/3 OF WHAT THE DEALER CHARGES.) I TOLD THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP, CHRIS, THAT APPARENTLY THE SWITCHES HONDA FURNISHED THE DEALERS FOR THE RECALL PARTS WERE AS DEFECTIVE AS THE ORIGINAL AND HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS OR FOR POSSIBLE EFFECTS OF THEM. HE DID NOT DISAGREE, BUT MAINTAINED HIS STANCE THAT THEY HAD NO OBLIGATION SINCE THEY FIXED IT ONCE AND I DON'T HAVE MY CAR REPAIRED AT THE DEALER. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW POLICY FOR "GOODWILL" CASES CAN SUPERSEDE SAFETY ISSUES. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE SWITCH. THEY ARE FLAT DENYING ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR A PROBLEM THAT CAN AND PROBABLY ALREADY HAS RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH A REAR TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION AND BELT FAILURE. A FRONT TIRE HAD TREAD SEPARATION 7 MONTHS EARLIER AND BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN ALERTED. UPDATED 10/30/06. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT STATED THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH) WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL PRIOR TO PURCHASING THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE REPAIR HAD NOT REMEDIED THE FAILURE AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A MAJOR CRASH TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
LARGE AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL FOUND IN ANTI-FREEZE RESEVOIR TANK. GARAGE SAID IT WAS A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. CAR ONLY HAS 56,000 MILES ON IT. GARAGE SAID THEY'VE NEVER SEEN A HEAD GASKET BLOW WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. *JB

THE CAR HAS HAD DIFFICULTIES STARTING AND STALLED OUT NUMEROUS TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS EXACT PROBLEM WAS HIGHLIGHTED IN A RECALL BY AMERICAN HONDA FOR 1997-2000 HONDA ACCORDS DATED MAY 23, 2002. THEY SUGGESTED IN THE RECALL THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH SHOULD BE REPLACED. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE'S VIN [XXX] DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE CATEGORY OF THIS RECALL THAT AFFECTED OVER 1.3 MILLION CARS. MY PROBLEM IS THE EXACT ISSUE THAT IS OUTLINED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. I SPOKE TO AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY SET UP A CASE [XXX]. THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR DEATH IF THE CAR STALLS. 1999 HONDA ACCORD V-6, 90K MILES. IN JULY, 2005. I STARTED NOTICING A WHISTLING SOUND WHEN THE ENGINE WAS ON AND THE ABS AND OTHER DASH LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND OFF SPORADICALLY. DURING NORMAL MAINTENANCE, I INQUIRED ABOUT THE NOISE AND DASH LIGHT PROBLEM. NOTHING WAS FOUND WRONG. THE DASH LIGHTS HAVE BEEN COMING ON AND OFF EVER SINCE. TODAY WHEN THE CAR WAS CRANKED, IT MADE A LOUDER THAN NORMAL WHISTLING SOUND. AFTER DRIVING IF FOR 1/2 A MILE THE NOISE STOPPED. THE NEXT TIME I DROVE THE CAR, IT STOPPED ACCELERATING AND ACTED AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO CUT OFF. I PARKED IT AND ATTEMPTED TO CRANK IT AGAIN BUT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. AFTER RECHARGING THE BATTERY, IT STILL COULD NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP. AFTER INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET, I REALIZED THAT MANY OTHERS WITH 99 ACCORDS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS. CONSIDERING THIS IS THE 3RD HONDA I HAVE PURCHASED (THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MY 93 HONDA ALSO) IT APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *NM
STARTED SEEING TRANSMISSION FLUID ON LT SIDE UNDER VEHICLE. HAD SEAL REPLACED BY LOCAL TRANS SHIP. TWO WEEKS LATER FLUID LEAKING AGAIN. RESEARCHED AND FOUND RECALL ON 2000 AND UP FOR BAD BEARING CAUSING THIS EXACT PROBLEM AND HONDA'S EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THOSE VEHICLES. TOOK VEHICLE TO RT.23 HONDA AND THEY ADVISED THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THE ONLY ITEM THAT THE HONDA FIELD SERVICE MANAGER WOULD ONLY ALLOW THE PART ONLY. I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $1000 LABOR. I REQUESTED THE FIELD MANAGER'S NAME BUT BRAD MORDER (SERVICE WRITER AT RT.23 HONDA) REFUSED TO GIVE IT TO ME. I LODGED A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA (CASE #12006-04-250-0809)THAT WAS HANDLED BY CHRIS MARTINEZ OF HONDA (X-118183) WHO STATED THAT HE DID NOT WANT TO DISCUSS THE PARTICULARS AND THAT HE HAD NO AUTHORITY TO CHANGE THE DECISION OF THE FIELD MANAGER. AGAIN, WHEN I ASKED FOR THE NAME OF THE FIELD MANAGER MR. MARTINEZ WOULD NOT GIVE IT TO ME. WHEN I ASKED HIM FOR HIS SUPERIOR'S NAME SO THAT I COULD ESCALATE THIS MATTER, HE ADVISED THAT HIS DECISION WAS FINAL AND THERE WAS NO OTHER RECOURSE I COULD TAKE. I NEW IT HAD TO BE REPAIRED AND I USED TO BE AN ASE CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN, SO I PURCHASED THE PART AND REPLACED IT MYSELF. AT THE PARTS COUNTER THE ASKED IF I WANTED THE RECALL IGNITION SWITCH. I PAID $54.55 FOR THE PART AND IT TOOK 1 HOUR TO INSTALL, AND THE OLD PART IS AVAILABLE.*AK

WHEN STARTING FROM COLD IN THE MORNING, THE VEHICLE COUGHS AND DOES NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. AFTER SOME TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME UP. VEHICLE RUNS SMOOTHLY AFTER ENGINE WARMS UP. MILEAGE REDUCED FROM 29 MPG IN CITY TO 25 MPG. THE MECHANIC SAID THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS FOR "LEAN FUEL MIXTURE". HE RESET THE ALARM AND SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE. SAME PROBLEM HAS REPEATED SEVERAL TIMES. MECHANIC SAYS THAT HE HAS SEEN SEVERAL VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HONDA RELEASED A KIT TO SOLVE IT BUT I'LL HAVE TO BUY IT. I AM WRITING TO EXPRESS DISSATISFACTION WITH MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX V6,[XXX]. ABOUT A WEEK AGO MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I CHECKED THE CODE AND IT INDICATED TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH MALFUNCTION. THE CAR WAS SHIFTING AND DRIVING FINE, SO I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE HONDA DEALER TO GET THE TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED. I CLEARED THE ERROR, BUT IT CAME RIGHT BACK ON. THE CAR WAS SHIFTING AND DRIVING FINE. TODAY ON MY WAY TO WORK AT 75 MPH AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT SHIFTED IN TO SECOND AND STAYED THERE. YOU CAN IMAGINE WHAT THAT DID TO RPMS!
