ONE DAY WHILE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY 3 LANE HIGHWAY MY HONDA WOULD NOT GO FORWARD ANY MORE. NO MATTER HOW HARD I PRESSED THE GAS IT WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. I COULD PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL OR REVERSE, BUT IN DRIVE I COULD NOT GET IT TO GO ABOVE 10 MPH. I IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION PLACE WHO TOLD ME HONDA HAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 98-2000 ACCORDS UNDER 100,000 MILES, AND THEY WILL REPLACE YOUR TRANSMISSION. SINCE MY CAR ONLY HAD 80,000 MILES, I CALLED THE SERVICE STATION, MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. THEY TOLD ME OKAY, BUT THERE WOULD BE A $95 FEE IF IT WASN'T THE TRANSMISSION. THEY CALLED ME LATER THAT DAY, AND SAID MY VIN# DIDN'T MATCH THE RECALL, SO SORRY. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA, AND THEY SAID I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN GIVEN THAT INFORMATION, AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I STATED SO WHAT YOU ARE TELLING ME IS THAT IN 98,99 & 00, YOU PUT BAD TRANSMISSIONS IN YOUR ACCORDS, I HAVE A BAD TRANSMISSION IN MY ACCORD, BUT I'M NOT COVERED??? TO WHICH THEY REPLIED YES. *JB
PURCHASED A PR-OWNED VEHICLE FROM POWER TOYOTA CERRITOS AND THE VEHICLE HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS AFTER 6 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP. *JB
I HAVE A 1999 HONDA ACCORD DX SEDAN. THE CLUTCH WENT OUT RECENTLY. ACCORDING TO HONDA, THEY HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FOR THIS PROBLEM. HOWEVER, HONDA SAYS THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO FAULTY MANUFACTURING FROM A VENDOR AT ORIGINAL ASSEMBLY. INSTEAD OF REPAIR OR REPLACE THE PART THAT IS FAULTY THE WHOLE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY MUST BE REPLACED DUE TO NEW MANUFACTURING AND DESIGN SPECS. SO INSTEAD OF A COST OF @ $150.00 IT WILL COST ME @ $500.00. PLUS THERE ARE NO ASSEMBLIES AVAILABLE - IT'S BACK ORDERED DUE TO THE DEMAND OF THIS ASSEMBLY BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE OF THE ORIGINAL. AS OF THIS TIME - EVEN THOUGH HONDA FREELY ADMITS THE TO BAD MANUFACTURING -THEY ARE OFFERING NO REIMBURSEMENT OR OFFER NO ASSISTANCE FOR A RENTAL CAR. I'VE BEEN WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR 3 WEEKS WITH NO REPAIR DATE IN SIGHT. *NM
HONDA ACCORD 99 V6 TRANSMISSION FAILED, SPEED 10 MPH WHILE IT'S 6000 RPM, ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, VERY DANGEROUS, IT'S 2ND TRANSMISSION. THE 1ST TRANSMISSION FAILED AT ABOUT 70K MILES, AND THE 2ND FAILED AT 82K. *JB
I HAVE A 99 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 AND FOUND OUT RECENTLY THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS HAVING SERIOUS SHIFTING PROBLEMS AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE HADN'T EVEN HIT 90,000 MILES YET. WHEN I WENT IN TO HONDA TO SEE WHAT THE LIGHT WAS ON FOR IT TURNS OUT IT WAS A "TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SYSTEM FAILURE" AND THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. HONDA TOLD ME IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY (3YR, 36K MI WARRANTY) SO THEY CLAIM THEY COULDN'T REPLACE IT. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER IF IT ISN'T UNDER WARRANTY. NO ONE PURCHASES A CAR, NEW OR USED, TO HAVE TO GET A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION BEFORE THE CAR EVEN MAKES IT TO 100,000 MILES. BESIDES THE MAJOR MECHANICAL PURCHASE, HONDA'S FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS ARE A SAFETY HAZARD. I CAN'T RECALL HOW MANY TIMES I'VE PRACTICALLY BEEN RAN OFF THE ROAD BY TRACTOR TRAILERS BECAUSE MY CAR COULDN'T SHIFT AND ACCELERATE FAST ENOUGH TO GET ONTO THE HIGHWAY. HONDA SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES. DOES IT REALLY TAKE SOMEONE TO DIE BEFORE THEY TRY TO REMEDY THE SITUATION? *JB
I HAVE HAD A TRANSMISSION FAILURE IN MY HONDA ACCORD. WHEN I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC IN PARKVILLE, MISSOURI, HE CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FOUND IT BLACK. HE FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION, PUT NEW FLUID IN, AND CHANGED A FILTER BEHIND THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. HE TOLD ME THAT HONDA FROM 98 TO 2002 HAD TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. HE TOLD ME TO DRIVE THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS AND SEE IF THAT DIDN'T FIX IT. I COULD TELL AS I DROVE HOME THAT IT WAS NOT FIXED. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION WOULD COST 1,600 TO 1,800 DOLLARS. SINCE I HAVE HAD TO GET A NEW ENGINE IN MY ACCORD OR MY LEMON, THREE NEW BATTERIES, AND NOW A NEW TRANSMISSION AND IT IS NOT ALREADY PAID FOR BECAUSE I LEASED IT AND AM IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING IT, I NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING OVER 30 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED IN 2005 FOR NHTSA RECALL 02V120000, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH. THERE WAS NO FAILURE AT THE TIME THE SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000. THE OXYGEN SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED ON THE 1999 HONDA ACCORD. *TS THE OXYGEN SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED EVERY TWO YEARS SINCE 2001. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 1999. THE TIRES HAVE DRY ROT AND CRACKED ON THE SIDEWALL. THE TIRE HAVE BEEN ROTATED FREQUENTLY AND THE TREAD IS VERY GOOD BUT THE TIRES NEED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE THEY REACH THEIR MILEAGE WARRANTY (MICHELIN TIRES). *NM
I BOUGHT A HONDA ACCORD FROM CROWN AUTO IN OXNARD CALIFORNIA IN APRIL OF 2005. FOUR MONTHS LATER MY TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT AND IT WAS REPLACED IN AUGUST OF 2005 , NOW IT IS FEBRUARY AND MY TRANSMISSION IS GIVING OUT . *JB
THE SUBFRAME, BRAKE LINES, FUEL LINES, AND SUSPENSION, ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, HAVE ALL RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT OF FAILURE DUE TO A POORLY DESIGNED A/C DRAIN HOSE. THE DEALER SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THIS WAS A PROBLEM DURING ANY OF THE LATER SERVICE VISITS. HONDA SHOULD TAKE ACTION ON THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION. *TR

I PURCHASED A NEW 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX IN THE SUMMER OF '99. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE, MY HUSBAND AND I NOTICED THAT THE BLACK PAINT WAS STARTING TO CHIP AND FLAKE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FROM WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE (PERFORMANCE HONDA, FAIRFIELD, OH) TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE SITUATION. THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR OFFERED MANY EXCUSES SUCH AS THAT I MUST HAVE DRIVEN THROUGH A STREET PAINTING PROJECT, ENCOUNTERED ACID RAIN, USED A POWER WASHER TOO OFTEN, OR DIDN'T KEEP THE VEHICLE CLEAN. MY HUSBAND AND I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF OUR VEHICLES WITH THE INTENT OF KEEPING THEM FOR MANY YEARS. THIS VEHICLE WAS WAXED WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF PURCHASE AND HAD BEEN WASHED AND MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS. WE CONTINUED TO SEE MORE PAINT SPECS MISSING IN THE BLACK PAINT. AT EACH SERVICE VISIT, I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SITUATION. THE SERVICE MANAGER EVEN CAME TO OUR HOUSE AND TO MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. ALL OF THE EXCUSES POINTED TO OUR INADEQUATE CARE OF THE VEHICLE. ON MY LAST VISIT, THEY ASKED IF I WOULD LIKE A QUOTE ON A NEW PAINT JOB FROM THEIR BODY SHOP. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON HONDA WEB SITES AND I WONDER IF THERE WAS EVER ANYTHING DONE TO RESOLVE THE SITUATION WITH THIS BATCH OF BAD PAINT. HONDA SEEMS UNWILLING TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION OR OFFER ANY COMPENSATION FOR THE PAINT TROUBLES. *NM
AT 99K MILES THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING. THE CAR JUMPS FORWARD ON THE SECOND SHIFT. DEALER ADVISES TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION COST $3800. *JB
ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 7, 2005, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I REFERRED TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL AND FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AS WRITTEN. THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM SO I TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL HONDA REPAIR SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THEY INDICATED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILED AND THEY QUOTED ME $1100 TO COMPLETE THE REPAIRS. I DO NOT HAVE THIS KIND OF MONEY LAYING AROUND. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THERE ARE 8 COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. HOW MANY COMPLAINTS DOES IT TAKE BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED? NOT ONLY WILL I HAVE TO CONTINUE DRIVING WITH THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT, BUT I WILL BE POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT AT THE SAME TIME. I GUESS I NEED TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE EPA AS WELL. PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *NM

1999 HONDA ACCORD IGNITION SWITCH FAILED.***NO ANSWER REQUIRED***.*MR THE CONSUMERS WIFE NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO START. ON 4-5 OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WHEN A TURN WAS MADE. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD ABOUT RECALL, HOWEVER THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. *JB
THE CAR'S CLEAR COAT IS PEELING AND HAS BEEN SINCE ABOUT 2005 WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION AND ALSO EXPLAINED THERE ARE MANY OTHER OF THE SAME CARS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM I WAS TOLD IT WAS PARKING UNDER A TREE, OR BIRD POOP, OR SUN DAMAGE BUT I HAVE A FRIEND YOU DOES ALL OR THE ABOVE WITH THEIR CAR AND THERE IS NO PROBLEMS AND I DO NOT HAVE ANY OF THOSE PROBLEMS (YES A FEW BIRD POOPS BUT NOT EXTREME, AS WITH SUN). I EXPLAINED THAT I WENT TO A PROFESSIONAL PAINT PLACE AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS EITHER THE WAY IT APPLIED OR THE BATCH(LOT) WAS A BAD BATCH AND YOU CAN TYPICALLY ISOLATE IT TO A AREA OR MANUFACTURE - NO I HAVE NOT HAD MY CAR REPAINTED I FEEL AS A CERTIFIED HONDA VEHICLE THEY SHOULD REPAINT IT ON THERE DIME. YES I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 11 YEARS BUT STILL I SHOULD HAVE BEEN ENTITLED TO NOT HAVING THE EMBARRASSMENT WHEN I TOOK GUESS OUT AND WITH MY NEIGHBORS THINKING I DON'T TAKE CARE OF MY CAR AS WITH FELLOW EMPLOYEES. SHAME FIRMS CAN'T STAND BEHIND "OH THERE AWARD WINNING" PRODUCT. I ALSO HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION THE SECOND YEAR AND IT TOOK 3 YEARS TO GET THAT RESOLVES, THEN THERE WAS A RECALL WITH A IGNITION PARTS THAT THEY FIXED AFTER THE CAR ROLLED INTO THE ROAD TWICE, AND IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE ODOMETER LIGHT YOU HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE DASH REMOVED - SAD. *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD DEVELOPED A PROBLEM WITH THE ALTERNATOR. *MR THE VEHICLE BEGUN TO LOSE POWER, BRAKING AND STEERING. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. THE DASHBOARD LIGHT WAS SUPPOSED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE ALTERNATOR WAS NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY. THE DEALER REFUSED TO CONSIDER ANY COMPENSATION. *SC
I TOOK MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AT 78,000 MILES WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO CODE IN THE COMPUTER AND MY GAS CAP WAS THE CULPRIT. THEY SAID THEY RESET COMPUTER AND ALL WAS GOOD WELL IF YOU RESET THE COMPUTER THIS MEANS YOU CLEARED ANY CODES WITCH OH BY THE WAY THERE WERE NOT ANY CODES RIGHT... LOW AND BEHOLD AT JUST AFTER 84000 MILES THE LIGHT COMES BACK ON ,AND THIS TIME THERE IS A CODE CAT AND O2 SENSOR NO GOOD 1,100.00 DOLLARS LATER IM SENT ON MY WAY. NOW AT 126,000 THE INFAMOUS P1457 CODE REARS ITS UGLY HEAD AND READ THAT HONDA MAY HAVE EXTENDED THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY TO 14 YEARS/130,000 MILES. IF THIS IS TRUE WHY WAS I CHARGED FOR CAT AND O2 SENSOR BACK AT 84,000 MILES???LETS JUST SAY IM NOT A VERY HAPPY HONDA CUSTOMER RIGHT NOW. *TR
TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR. ONLY 55,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND WE STRICTLY ADHERED TO THE MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES. BASED ON RESEARCH ON THE WEB, THIS IS QUITE COMMON BUT HONDA IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THE TRANSMISSION FAILURES. HONDA RECOGNIZED THE ISSUES WITH THE 2000-2003 ACCORD TRANSMISSIONS BUT FAILED TO INCLUDE THE 1999'S WHEN THEIR IS OBVIOUSLY WIDESPREAD PROBLEMS WITH THEM.
HAD TWO (2) GOODYEAR ASSURANCE TIRES BLOW OUT APPROXIMATELY A MONTH APART ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD - HIGHWAY DRIVING...FRONT TIRES, FIRST THE LEFT AND YESTERDAY THE RIGHT TIRE. LUCKILY NO INJURIES. WONDERED IF THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS.

DT: THE LIGHTS WILL COME ON WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. MAINTENANCE LIGHT WILL STAY ON, AND THEN WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ABOUT 60-80 MPH THE GREEN LIGHT WILL POP ON, AND THE VEHICLE WILL JUST CUT OFF. *AK
DT: CONSUMER REPORTS WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR LUNGES FORWARD; AND IS OUT OF CONTROL. IN READING OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CONSUMERS, HE NOTICED OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THE VERY SAME DAY HE BROUGHT THE CAR HOME, THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD AT FOUR-WAY STOP AND HE WENT THROUGH THE MID-SECTION. THE CAR REVS UP AT VIOLENT PACE. *JB
I BOUGHT MY 99 HONDA ACCORD ON JUNE 28, 2003 FOR 16,000$ ODOMETER READOUT 56,000 MILES. I HAVE SINCE NOTICED NOISES AND JERKY LIKE MOVEMENTS UPON ACCELERATION ALSO WHEN LETTING OFF THE GAS PEDDLE WHEN THE CAR IS TRYING TO IDOL DOWN. AS IF TO BE STUCK OR REVVING IN THE GEAR IN WHICH ITS LEAVING AND ENDS WITH A JERK ONCE IT GETS TO THE GEAR ITS CHANGING TO WITH A REV OR JUMP ESPECIALLY IF ON A HILL. NOW AT JUST OVER 130,000 MILES AND IN THE YEAR 2008 THE PROBLEM IS WORSE AND WORSE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN TEMP. MADE BETTER WITH FLUSHING OF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, AND FOR WHATEVER REASON THERE IS NO CHANGEABLE TRANSMISSION FLUID FILTER. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY HONDA THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. WHAT! 130,000 MILES AND IT ALREADY NEEDS REPLACING, THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE A HONDA,, HONDA ONCE MEANT RELIABILITY, BIGGEST MILEAGE ECT. I HAVE NOT AS OF TODAY WHICH IS JULY 15, 2008, REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION, AND IM HOPING THAT WITH A LITTLE PRAYER GOD WILL HAVE MERCY ON ME AND MY DUMB CAR, BECAUSE I CANT AFFORD A NEW TRANSMISSION, AND YES I AM WILLING TO BET THAT THEY HAVE THIS PART IN STOCK EVEN!! HONDAS GOOD TO HAVE THOSE ODD PARTS THAT BREAK , LETS YOU KNOW THAT YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH PROBLEMS ON THOSE PARTS. RECALL CAMPAIGN 03V423000 CONCERNING IGNITION SWITCH. OWNER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER PERTAINING TO THIS RECALL. OWNER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THIS RECALL REPAIRS DONE. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP WANTED TO CHARGE THE OWNER $500.00 FOR REPAIRS. *AK

TRANSMISSION FAILURE - 1999 ACCORD EX IN MINT CONDITION, PERFECT MAINTENANCE RECORDS AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGINS TO FAIL ,OUT OF THE BLUE, AT 71,000 MILES. THE CAR SHIFTS AND LURCHES IN 1ST, 2ND AND THIRD GEAR. ALSO, NOTICABLE LOSS OF OVERALL POWER OR TORQUE IN THE CARS PERFORMANCE. THIS IS MY THIRD ACCORD AND FIRST AUTOMATIC. VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH THE EGR VALVE WHICH IS CLOGGED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUES TO KEEP FLASHING OFF/ON SINCE LAST SUMMER. DEALER INFORMED THE OWNER THAT THE EGR VALVE NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED, HOWEVER, A PRODUCT UPDATE HAS BEEN IMPOSED.
