SOMETIMES MY CAR WILL JUST STOP RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING. EXTREMELY PERILOUS WHEN IT HAPPENS IN A TURN AND AT LOW SPEEDS BECAUSE OF LOSS OF POWER STEERING OR IF SITTING AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. IT APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO THE IGNITION. DASH LIGHTS MAY OR MAY NOT FLASH ON AN OFF. ADJUSTMENT OF THE IGNITION KEY POSITION/ANGLE FIXES IT UNTIL IT HAPPENS AGAIN. HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. *TR
I HAVE A 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX WITH A 4 CYLINDER VTEC ENGINE. 1-12-08 WHILE DRIVING AT LOWER SPEEDS--TYPICALLY 30 TO 45 MPH THE CAR WILL JERK AND CHANGE GEARS WHEN NOT NEEDED. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE CAR STALLS AND I HAVE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL TO RESTART. UPDATE: MAY 2008 AND I HAVE NO REVERSE GEAR AT ALL. AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW WHY HONDA HAS NOT PUT A RECALL ON THESE 1998 AND 1999 TRANSMISSIONS. WHY? DOES SOMEONE REALLY HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THEY FIX THEIR OWN PROBLEM? I AM CALLING HONDA IN THE MORNING AND IF I DON'T GET SATISFACTORY RESULTS I WOULD LIKE TO START A NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN AGAINST HONDA. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED OR IDLING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF. OCCASIONALLY, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER AND START. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE TOUCHES ANY METAL PORTION OF THE VEHICLE IN COLD WEATHER, A SHOCK OCCURS. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 1999, AT 48,000 MY TRANSMISSION JERKS, PULLS, SLIPS, SHIFTS ROUGHFLY, WHEN DRIVING AT 30MPH OR MORE IT DOWNSHIFTS AND THE CAR SHUDDERS AND STOPS SUDDENLY. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. HONDA SHOULD RECALL THE 1999 ACCORDS.*CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE ENTIRE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF AND HAVE TO BE RESTARTED WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. WHEN DRIVING AT FAST SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD RESTART ITSELF. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. I HAVE A 99 HONDA ACCORD IN WHICH THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING. I DIDN'T REALIZE IT UNTIL I TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL AND REALIZED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. IT TOOK SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART AND TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE ALTERNATOR BUT THE MECHANIC SAID NO BECAUSE THE LIGHT WOULD HAVE COME ON. HE SAID IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. HONDA HAD A RECALL ON THESE IN 2003. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL BECAUSE HONDA SAID MY SWITCH WAS NOT APART OF THE RECALL. I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR STALLING WHILE DRIVING AS THE SWITCH WITH THE RECALL. I CALLED HONDA TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION AND TO FIND OUT WHY THEY DIDN'T NOTIFY ME OF THE POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I HAVE TWO LITTLE GIRLS WHO RIDE IN THIS CAR WHICH BY THE WAY IS MY ONLY CAR AND WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN KILLED DUE TO THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR

THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS PRIOR TO THE FAILURES. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH), ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A SIMILAR RECALL REPAIR, BUT THE FAILURE WAS STILL NOT CORRECTED. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE GREEN KEY LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED; HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT. ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2002, THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V120000. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
1999 HONDA ACCORD EX SEDAN. TOOK TO DEALER TO HAVE S/B : 05-007 FIXED IN APRIL 2007. AUGUST 2007 WHEN LEAVING WORK, CAR WOULD STALL @ 2ND OR 3RD TRAFFIC SIGNAL. NO LIGHTS OR ELECTRIC (ALL GAUGES OFF) (ONCE OR TWICE). WOULD PLACE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND RESTARTED, WITH NOW PROBLEM. IN SEPTEMBER 2007 THE PROBLEM BEGINS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY (TWICE A WEEK). NOW, OCTOBER 2007, CAR HAS NOW STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (55 MPH). TAKING BACK TO DEALER, WILL UPDATE. *TR
CAR WON'T START AND MAINTENANCE LIGHT CAME ON. TOW IT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOUND TO THE TRANSMISSION'S FAULT. HONDA WON'T COVER IT UNDER THEIR RECALLS FOR 2000 MODELS, BECAUSE IT IS A 1999 MODEL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER IT WAS SHIFTED BACK INTO PARK. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED CONSISTENTLY FOR THE PAST YEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS; THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST FOR REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
SINCE FIRST PURCHASED THIS 99 ACCORD HAS BEEN TO THE SHOP ON 5 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FOR HARD SHIFTING INTO 1ST AND 2ND. WAS TOLD BY HONDA MECHANIC THAT WAS HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SHIFT. STILL HAVING TROUBLES WITH SLIPPING, AND HARD SHIFTING AND OCCASIONALLY DOWN SHIFTING WHEN GOING 70MPH, CAR WILL WHINE LOUDLY AND YOU CAN FEEL THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFT. WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD WHILE DRIVING CAR CUT OFF. I COULD NOT DEPRESS THE BRAKE, CAR BEGAN TO COAST UNTIL I COULD PULL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO TURN THE KEY TO OFF SO THAT I COULD PLACE THE CAR IN PARK. ONCE CAR STOPPED, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND PROCEEDED TO MY DESTINATION. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT THE CAR HAS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING. WITHIN THE LAST 2 MONTHS THE CAR HAS BE HAVING TROUBLE STALLING WHILE DRIVING BUT WOULD IMMEDIATELY RESTART. WHEN CAR WAS AT A PARKED STATUS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME I WOULD NOT ANY PROBLEMS STARTING THE VEHICLE. BUT IF THE CAR WAS DRIVEN, PARKED AND THEN RESTARTED THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE RESTARTING AGAIN. I WOULD HAVE TO REPEATEDLY HAVE TO ATTEMPT TO GET THE VEHICLE TO START. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO GET SERVICED CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE ACCORD WAS TAKEN IN 2002 TO GET REPAIRED FOR THE RECALL 02V120000. THE CAR WAS NOT HAVING PROBLEMS UNTIL RECENTLY. *JB
CAR IS STALLING AND SEEMS THAT TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING. IN RESEARCHING WEB, I HAVE RUN ACROSS AT LEAST 20 DRIVERS, WITH EXACT SAME MAKE, MODEL ETC. ALTHOUGH MY CAR HAS 120K MILES, SOME ONLY HAD 60K WHEN THEIR TRANSMISSION FAILED. EVERY MECHANIC THAT I SPOKE WITH (INCLUDING DEALERSHIP) ADMITS THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN THESE MODELS ARE KNOWN TO FAIL. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A DEALER AS REPUTABLE AS HONDA HAS NOT BEEN MADE TO REENGINEER THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. ACCORDING TO THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ, EVEN THE 2004 MODELS HAVE TRANSMISSIONS BEGINNING TO FAIL. IT SEEMS EXTREMELY UNFAIR THAT THE CUSTOMERS ARE THE ONES FOOTING THE BILL. *TR

WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME, THE VEHICLE COULD IMMEDIATELY BE RESTARTED AFTER IT STALLED. THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE HIS VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL, THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A FREE REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 141,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000. UPDATED 4/29/08 *CN
I WAS TRYING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN THE CAR STALLED. WHEN I REALIZED WHAT HAPPENED AND TRIED TO COAST OFF THE ROAD, THE CAR STARTED BACK UP WITHOUT ME DOING ANYTHING. IT CONTINUED TO STALL AND RESTART NINE TIMES IN A 3 MILE STRETCH. THE LAST TIME I PULLED OFF THE ROAD BECAUSE THE CAR DID NOT RESTART. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND TRIED TO START THE CAR. IT STARTED. I DROVE THE NEXT 10 MILES HOLDING THE KEY STEADYING IN THE IGNITION. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT HELPED BUT I GOT HOME WITHOUT IT STALLING AGAIN. I KNEW IT WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN RECALLED AND REPLACED TWICE PREVIOUSLY. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY EMISSION SYSTEM AND I HAD TO HAVE MY EVAC CANISTER REPLACED ($250). I DID THAT AND WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE DEALER WHEN MY CAR STALLED AND RESTARTED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL REPAIR MAN WHO TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. HE REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE CAR HAS BEEN FINE SINCE. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY REPLACED THE KEY PORTION OF THE IGNITION LOCK. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 148,500.
BOUGHT THIS 99 HONDA ACCORD DX 4 DOOR 5 SPEED BACK IN 2006 FROM A HONDA DEALERSHIP. IN THE END OF 2007 THE CAR SHUT OFF ON THE HIGH WAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING!!! THANK GOD I DIDN'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT! IT THEN HAPPENED AGAIN A MONTH LATER! IT THEN HAPPENED QUITE FREQUENTLY TILL I COULD NO LONGER LET THE KEY GO WITHOUT IT SHUTTING OFF! WHEN THE CAR SHUTS OFF EVERYTHING STOPS, INCLUDING POWER STEERING!!! VERY DANGEROUS!!! WE LOOKED OVER THE CAR AND LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND MY CAR HAD A RECALL ON IT. WE CALLED HONDA'S 1800 NUMBER AND THEY TOLD US THE CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN RECALLED AND FIXED IN 2002 SO THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING FOR US!!! SO WHY THEN A COUPLE OF YEARS LATER WOULD THE SAME PROBLEM BE HAPPENING!? I AM SCARED THAT IF I GO AND HAVE IT FIXED IT WILL JUST SHUT OFF ON ME AGAIN IN FOUR YEARS, OR LESS!? DID THEY JUST REPLACE THE FAULTY PART WITH ANOTHER FAULTY PART?! I HAVE READ SOME OF THE FORUMS ON LINE AND THEY SEEM TO INDICATE THAT IT COULD BE THE WIRING TO THE IGNITION SWITCH AND NOT THE WHOLE PART. WE HAVE RIGGED THE CAR BY HANGING OBJECTS OFF OF THE KEYS TO GET IT TO STAY ON... I KNOW IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT STOPS ALTOGETHER! THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
I CAN ADD ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FAILURE FROM A HONDA ACCORD 1999. THIS CAR HAS THE SAME TRANSMISSION AS THE RECALLED TRANSMISSIONS ON HONDA ACCORD FROM 2000 TO 2002. MY TRANSMISSION SEAL LEAKED AT 110,000 MILES. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT 149,000 MILES FOR $2100. OF COURSE, THE REASON I BOUGHT A HONDA WAS BETTER ENGINEERING. I AM BEGINNING TO THINK THAT I HAVE A FALSE PERCEPTION OF THE HONDA QUALITY. THIS WAS MY FIRST HONDA AND I DON'T THINK AT THIS TIME THAT MY NEXT CAR WILL BE A HONDA AUTOMATICALLY. I HAVE GOTTEN UNSOLD ON THEM. BASED ON ALL OF THE OTHER LETTERS I SAW ON THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND THE FACT THESE CARS HAD LOWER MILEAGE, I DON'T THINK I HAVE A PRAYER ON HONDA KICKING IN SOMETHING FOR THE REPAIR. 1999 ACCORD TWO RECALLS FOR IGNITION CAUSING ENGINE TO STALL. CUSTOMER STATES THAT HER ENGINE WOULD STALL ANYWHERE IT DIDN'T MATTER. CONSUMER HAD THE IGNITION SWITCHED REPLACED. SHE WOULD LIKE MORE INFO. *KB UPDATED 09/18/07 *TR THE CONSUMER STATED CAR SHUT DOWN ON 8/2/07 IN THE PARKING LOT AND THEN AGAIN AT A STOP SIGN AND WAS VERY HARD TO RESTART. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER SHE WAS INFORMED THERE WERE 2 RECALLS ISSUED FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH OF HER VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL. THE CONSUMER FURTHER STATED THE RECALL NOTICED SAID THE REPLACEMENT OF ELECTRICAL CONTACT PORTION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH WHILE RETAINING THE ORIGINAL LOCKS AND ASSEMBLIES BUT THE CONSUMER STATED HAD TO HAVE THE LOCKS REPAIRED, IT WOULD NOT LOCK WHEN DRIVER SIDE LOCK PUSHED IN. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED THE FIRST TIME BUT IS HESITANT ABOUT TAKING THE VEHICLE BACK TO ORIGINAL DEALER DUE TO THE FACT THEY WILL STATE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH IN A 1999 HONDA ODYSSEY WHICH CAUSES THE CAR TO DIE WITHOUT WARNING. SWITCH WAS REPLACED IN 2002 AFTER RECALL NOTICE, AND AGAIN IN 2006 AFTER SEVERAL INCIDENTS OF CAR STALLING WHILE IN TRAFFIC. A YEAR LATER, THE CAR DIED AGAIN - SAME SYMPTOMS AS LAST YEAR. DEALER REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE SWITCH COULD BE THE PROBLEM. *TR

HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON JULY 5, 2007 AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. ON JULY 7, 2007, WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF RETRIEVING HIS VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TWICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DRIVES NORMALLY AND THEN STALLS. HE PULLS THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNS IT OFF FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, AND THEN RESTARTS THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES AND THEN FAILS AGAIN. THE FAILURE BEGAN SIX MONTHS AGO AND OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 197,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS THE 1999 HONDA ACCORD WOULD RANDOMLY FAIL TO START WHEN BATTERY AND ALL OTHE MECHNICALS COMPONENTS WERE NORMAL. AFTER MULTIPLE TRIPS TO GARAGES THE PROBLEMWAS NARROWED DOWN TO THE IGNITION SWITCH THATWA S NOT PROPERLY DISABLING IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM. *AK I FOUND OUT THERE IS AN OUTSTANING RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM (RECALL ID FROM NHTSA: 02V120000). HOWEVER, HONDA LIMIT THE RECALL TO A SMALL NUMBER OF VINS AND FAIL TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM FOR MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS.

I DID TURN OFF THE AC AND PRAYED ALL THE REST OF THE 20 MILES OR SO THAT I HAD TO GO TO GET HOME, WHICH I DID. CALLED A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP THAT I HAVE USED BEFORE AND BEING A HOLIDAY WEEKEND, COULD NOT GET IT IN BEFORE TUESDAY, 5-29-07. FOUND TO BE IGNITION SWITCH. WAS TOLD TO CALL HONDA DEALERSHIP IN SPRINGFIELD, MO AND WAS TOLD WAS FIXED AFTER RECALL. IN LOOKING AT THE PAPER WORK I HAD FROM PREVIOUS OWNER, IT HAD BEEN DONE AT 67375 MILES AND AGAIN HAD PROBLEMS AND WAS DONE AT 83050 MILES AGAIN. THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME AT ALL AT THE DEALERSHIP SO I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF. THE CAR NOW HAS 103596 MILES ON IT. SO THAT TELLS ME THAT THESE IGNITION SWITCHES ARE GOOD FOR 20,000 OR LESS AND MY LIFE WAS IN JEOPARDY BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY SWITCH. NOW HOW LONG CAN I DRIVE AND BE SAFE BEFORE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN???? THE TRANSMISSION IN THE HONDA ACCORD VEHICLE YEARS 1998-2003 ARE DEFECTIVE. THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE FAILING AT AS EARLY AS 70,000 MILES. MY ACCORDS TRANSMISSION RECENTLY FAILED AT AN ESTIMATED 80,000-85,000 MILES. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I DISCOVERED THAT HONDA DID/OR WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN ONLY THE 2000 AND UP ACCORDS BUT WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM IN THE 98 AND 99 HONDA ACCORD DESPITE KNOWING THAT THE SAME EXACT TYPE OF TRANSMISSION WAS USED IN THE 98 AND 99 VERSIONS AS WELL. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS CONCERNING HONDA'S REFUSAL TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN 98 AND 99 AS WELL. IS THEIR ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO. THE 1999 HONDA ACCORD WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL IN SUMMER 2002 FOR AN IGNITION SWITCH DEFECT. I HAD THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OFF IN OCTOBER 2002. NOW, IN 2007, THE SAME PART WAS DEFECTIVE AGAIN. THE COST TO ME TO HAVE THIS FIXED WASA $293. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT WILLING TO HELP W/ THE COST BECAUSE OF THE TIME LAPSE. HONDA REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT A RECALL PART WAS ONLY REPAIRED ONCE A PERIOD! ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIRS TO THAT PART WERE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONSUMER. MY POSITION WAS THAT IF THE PART WAS DEFECTIVE IN DESIGN, THIS SHOULD STILL BE HANDLED AS A RECALLED ITEM. I HAVE NO TRUE WAY OF KNOWING IF THE PART I RECEIVED IN 2002 WAS INDEED A REDESIGNED PART, OR SIMPLY THE SAME PART IN THE VEHICLE AT THAT TIME. IT OCCURS ON ALMOST A DAILY BASIS AND OCCURS WHILE STOPPED A LIGHT TO EVEN MORE FRIGHTENING WHILE DRIVING IN FOUR GEAR. WHILE THIS HAS YET TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, THE POSSIBILITY IS VERY HIGH. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2002 (#02V120000). I CALLED HONDA TO FIND OUT WHY I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OR WHY THE DEAL DID NOT FIX DURING MY COUNTLESS ROUTINE MAINTENANCE VISITS. OUT OF 1,000,000 RECALLS I WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED FOR THE YEAR OF MY CAR, BUT I AM BEING TOLD IT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HAD THE DEALER CHECK FOR THE CODE WHICH CAME UP AS P1491, EGR VALVE ISSUE. THERE IS DOCUMENTED RECALL/NOTE FOR THIS MAJOR DESIGN DEFECT PART, BUT ONLY FOR 8YR/80K MILES. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND ASKED FOR "GOOD FAITH"/IF THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR. AM/HONDA REFUSED MY REQUEST. MY 99 ACCORD EX V6 HAS 130K MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN DOCUMENTED DESIGN FLAW. EMISSION PARTS SHOULD LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR. HAD TO SHELL OUT $300 FOR THAT REPAIR. I HAVE OWNED 7 OTHER HONDA'S PLUS THIS CAR. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HAD THIS TYPE OF ISSUE. WHEN RETRACTING, THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT CAN CATCH ON THE POWER SEAT LEVER WHICH RECLINES THE DRIVER SEAT. AS A RESULT, THE SEAT BACK RECLINES UNLESS SOMEONE DETERMINES THE REASON FOR THE SEAT GOING BACK. THE SEAT RECLINES WITH SUCH FORCE THAT ANYONE SITTING IN THE BACK SEAT CAN BE SEVERELY INJURED AND POTENTIALLY CRUSHED BY THE FORCE. *NM

I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM SF TO OUR HOME IN SANTA ROSA, AND I NOTICED SMOKE STREAMING FROM THE TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN. THEN THE ODOMETER DROPPED FROM 65 TO 0, WENT BACK TO 65, THEN FLUCTUATED. AS I TOOK THE EXIT OFF THE FREEWAY, THE CAR WAS LOSING POWER, AND JERKED WHEN I GAVE IT GAS. I PULLED OVER AND CALLED THE TOW TRUCK. THE ENGINE DID NOT START WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER TRIED IT, ALTHOUGH IT CRANKED. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO MARIN HONDA. THEY TESTED AND FOUND THE ELECTRICAL PORTION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH HAD FAILED. THEY REPLACED IT BUT AT THE SAME TIME THE D4(TRANS GEAR SELECTION)LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT IT'S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PROBLEM, AND THAT WE SHOULD TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE TRANS FLUID 7 WEEKS AGO.(MY WIFE TOLD THE CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISOR THAT WE HAD THE TRANS WORK DONE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO WHEN IT FACT IT WAS JUST CHANGING FLUID AS PART OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE). MARIN HONDA CHARGED US $205 FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF IGNITION SWITCH. THE D4 STARTS FLASHING WHEN THE ENGINE IS STARTED AND SHIFT TO ANY ONE OF GEARS. AND IT MAKES A BIG CLUNK AND THE WHOLE CAR SHAKES WHEN THE GEAR IS SHIFTED TO REVERSE OR DRIVE. I CALLED MARIN HONDA CUST ADVISOR AND TOLD HIM IT MUST BE RELATED TO IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT, BUT HE'S ADAMANT THAT IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. WHEN WE CHECKED YOUR WEBSITE AND LOOKED UNDER "RECALL" FOR 1999 ACCORD, WE FOUND IT HAD IGNITION SW RECALLS IN THREE DIFFERENT YEARS, 2002, 2003, AND 2005.
