WHILE DRIVING DRIVING 15 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE MOVING ABOUT 60 MPH CRASHED INTO CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK
P0420 CODE - CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON - CATALYST EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD - BANK 1 NLY 6 YEARS OLD AND 95,000 MILES. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON MANY SITES, THIS IS A SYSTEMATIC PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CAR AND PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD $1100 TO GET THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED AND THERFORE CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, WHILE POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT AND POSSIBLY OVERLOOKING OTHER FAILURES THAT MAY BE MORE SAFETY CRITICAL BECAUSE OF THE LIGHT ALWAYS BEING ON.*AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE KEY INSIDE OF THE IGNITION SWITCH THE VEHICLE FAILED TO TURN ON. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE STARTED. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC TO HAVE IT INSPECTED. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED ONCE. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THE GEARS WERE DEFECTIVE AND THE FLUID WAS DISCOLORED. *JB

THE TRANMISSION ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD WENT OUT AT 10200. THIS IS THE THIRD HONDA THAT I HAVE OWNED AND I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY COULD GO AS HIGH AS 3-4000. I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR, AND I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A LAWSUIT AGAINST HONDA OR SOMETHING BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.*AK
THE VEHICLE STALLED INADVERTENTLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE OWNER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS FOR THIS DEFECT. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
MY 1999 ACCORD HAS 70,000 ORGINAL MILES ON IT. THEN ONE DAY THE GEARS STATED SLIPPING AND WITHIN A WEEK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDS NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $4000. BUT DOSEN'T KNOW WHY TRANMISSION HAS FAILED. STILL WORKING WITH DEALERSHIP ON REPAIR.*AK

WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DOWN SHIFT ON ITS ON. THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK THEN ACCELERATED WITH A HESITATION. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. PLEASE FILL IN ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *JB
I WAS DRIVING MY MOM'S 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 HOME LAST NIGHT AROUND 11:00 PM. AS I WAS APPROACHING THE EXIT AND PROCEEDED TO DECELERATE FROM 65MPH, THE CAR VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFTED SEVERAL TIMES CAUSING ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR. A LARGE TRACTOR-TRAILER WHICH WAS BEHIND ME WAS NARROWLY ABLE TO AVOID REAR-ENDING (OR RUNNING ME OVER!) BY SWITCHING LANES. MY LIFE FLASHED BEFORE ME AS I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE END OF MY LIFE. FORTUNATELY, I SURVIVED, HOWEVER, I HAVE A NASTY CASE OF WHIPLASH. AFTER DOING MY RESEARCH, I'VE FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS USED IN THE 98-2002 ACCORDS V6 HAVE A FAULTY CARRIER BEARING WHICH BRAKES AND RUINS THE INNERDS OF THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION. AFTER CALLING HONDA USA, I WAS TOLD TOUGH LUCK, AND WAS SARCASTICALLY TOLD THAT IF I EXPECTED THEM TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT, I SHOULDN'T HOLD MY BREATH. REGARDLESS OF THE EXTRORDINARY INFLATED REPLACEMENT COST OF $4800.00, THE NHTSA MUST OPEN A DEFECT INVESTIGATION. ALTHOUGH THE 2001-2002'S WERE "RECALLED," THE 98-99'S WITH THE EXACT SAME TRANSMISSIONS HAVE NOT. I FEAR FOR THE LIVES OF ALL THOSE INDIVIDUALS WITH THESE CARS - ESPECIALLY IF THEY CANNOT AFFORD THE OUTRAGEOUS COST TO REPLACE HONDA'S FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. THIS IS TRULY AN INJUSTICE!*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 36 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED FORWARD, FOLLOWED BY A METAL TO METAL NOISE. THE DRIVER COASTED THE VEHICLE TO A STOP, THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE THE FLUID WAS BURNT, BUT THE METAL NOISE WAS STILL PRESENT. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE FRONT PUMP WAS FOUND TO BE THE MAIN CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. EXCESSIVE METAL WAS ALSO FOUND IN TRANSMISSION PAN AS WELL AS FLUID AND THE FORWARD DRUM WAS DAMAGED. A RE MANUFACTURED TRANSMISSION WITH A TORQUE CONVERTER WAS INSTALLED. *JB NO RECALL PERTAINING TO THIS VEHICLE FOUND. *TC
I NOTICED TRANSMISSION LEAKING FROM MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX AT ABOUT 78,000 MILES. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING AND NOT CHANGING GEARS AT THE PROPER TIMES. THUS, I TOOK MY CAR TO A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP AND WAS ADVISED THAT MY SEALS AND AXELS HAD TO BE REPLACED. TO GET A SECOND OPINION, I TOOK IT TO A MEINEKE SHOP WHO ADVISED THAT MY AXELS WERE FINE AND THAT I NEEDED A TRANSMISSION TECHNICIAN BECAUSE MY PROBLEM WAS GREATER THAN I IMAGINE. I CONTACTED A TECHNICIAN IN THE AREA AND HE ASSESSED THE SITUATION. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE BEHRINGS ON THE VEHICLE WERE POORLY MANUFACTURED AND THUS WERE CAUSING LEAKAGE AND SLIPPAGE. HE OFFERED LITERATURE ON THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM WHICH HELPED ME UNDERSTAND. HIS SOLUTION WAS TO COMPLETELY REBUILD THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION BUT THAT WAS A COST THAT I COULD NOT EVEN FATHOM TO BEAR. THIS LED ME TO CONTACT A TRANSMISSION REPAIR TECHNICIAN THAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY CONSULTED WITH WHEN I WAS FACED WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH MY 1988 HONDA ACCORD. THIS TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THE CAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE PREVIOUS TRANSMISSION TECHNICIAN. HE CAUTIONED THAT HONDA ACCORDS BUILT IN BETWEEN 1998 AND AFTER HAD THOSE FAULTY PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION, THUS CAUSING THE SAME PROBLEMS I WAS DESCRIBING. I HAD TO OTHER ALTERNATIVE THAN TO TRUST THIS TECHNICIAN WITH THE REPAIR OF MY TRANSMISSION SINCE I HAD PREVIOUSLY DEALT WITH HIM. HE WAS HONEST AND STRAIGHTFORWARD FROM THE START. AS A RESULT, I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OF THE TRANSMISSION, INCLUDING NEW PARTS; I HAVE HAD TO RENT A CAR IN THE INTERIM; AND I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OBTAIN ANY TYPE OF ANSWERS AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENS OR WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL. THE TECHNICIAN HAS GRANTED ME THE FAVOR OF KEEPING THE OLD PARTS AND WILL PROVIDE ME WITH AN ITEMIZED BILL FOR HIS SERVICES, INCLUDING ANY PARTS ORDERED FOR THE REPAIR/REFURBISHING OF THE TRANSMISSION.
WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING MY ACCORD V6, MY TRANSMISSION SENSOR BLEW OUT. THAT WAS THE ONLY THING COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I REPEATEDLY EXPRESSED CONCERNS TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WITH MY TRANSMISSION. IT WOULD THUMP AND LURCH THE CAR FORWARD OR HESITATE BETWEEN GEARS. REPEATEDLY THEY ASSURED ME THIS WAS NORMAL. LIKE EVERYONE WHO BUYS A HONDA, I THOUGHT HONDAS ARE BUILT TO LAST SO MAYBE THIS IS NORMAL. THE FIX-IT WAS TO FLUSH MY SYSTEMS ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS. WHICH BY THE WAY, MADE THINGS WORSE. I HAD TO MANUALLY SHIFT AN AUTOMATIC. SUCH IRONY. NOW THE VEHICLE ONLY ENGAGES 2ND GEAR. I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING HONDA WITH THIS FOR 9 MONTHS NOW.*AK
THE IGNITION SWITCH ALLOWS THE DRIVER TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING IN PARK. THIS WILL ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FREELY.
1999 HONDA ACCORD'S CRANKSHAFT WAS BROKEN. *MR THE LOWER PULLEY "IN HAND" HAD COME OFF OF THE END OF THE CRANKSHAFT. *SC *JB

1999 HONDA ACCORD - 63K MILES - TRANSMISSION FAILED. TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED ABOUT 5K00MILES BEFORE FAILURE DESPITE NOT BEING RECOMMENDED BY HONDA. HONDA WOULD NOT PAY FOR REPLACEMENT.*AK
THE SEAT BRACKET BROKE. WHEN THE DRIVER ACCELERATED THE SEAT WOBBLED. *AK THE CONSUMER WOULD BE THROWN AROUND NEARLY LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *SC *JB
1999 HONDA ACCORD, EX V6, 79K MILES, BEAUTIFULLY MAINTAINED AND ONLY SERVICED BY HONDA DEALERSHIPS. ORIGINAL OWNER WAS MY FATHER (PHILIP GARRAFFA) WHO LEASED THE VEHICLE; I PURCHASED THE CAR AND THE END OF THE LEASE - I KNOW IT HAS BEEN TAKEN CARE OF AND HAS NEVER BEEN SUBJECTED TO EXCESS WEAR AND TEAR. AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING (STEPPING ON THE GAS), THE ENGINE WILL 'REV', CAR WILL NOT MOVE INTO GEAR, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WILL SLAM INTO GEAR AND JERK FORWARD. THANKFULLY THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LOWER SPEEDS, BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AT A HIGHER SPEED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DIDN'T SHIFT PROPERLY FROM THE FIRST TO THE SECOND GEAR. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
HONDA ACCORD 1999, ENGINE CHECK LIGHT INDICATES CATALYTIC CONVERTER FAILURE, WHICH IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR CAUSED BY A DESIGN FLAW WHEREBY LEAN FUEL MIXTURES PRODUCE LOW EMMISSIONS, BUT ALSO BURN UP THE CATALYST BED. THE FAILURE IS SYSTEMIC AND HAPPENS BETWEEN 80,000 AND 130,000 MILES. MANY FAMILIES CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR AND SINCE IT IS NOT CRITICAL, IT WILL BE LEFT UNATTENDED, WHICH LEADS TO ENVIRONMENTAL DETERIORATION AND THE IMMEDIATE RISK OF DRIVING WITH THE WARNING LIGHT ALREADY ILLUMINATED.*AK
MY TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING. SPECIFICALLY BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND. I TOOK IT IN ASSUMING THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE TUNED UP, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I DROVE THE CAR FOR ANOTHER WEEK AND HAD IT FAIL MISERABLY. I COULD NOT GET OUT OF 1ST GEAR AND DROVE HOME AT 5 MPH. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. THE DEALER SAYS THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. *LA
I OWN A 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX 2.3 VTECH. I STARTED HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AROUND 60000, WHEN THE CAR WAS COLD TRANSMISSION HAD TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS, WHEN THE CAR GETS HOT TRANSMISSION IS OK. I WENT TO THE HONDA DEALER WHERE MY FRIEND WORKS AS A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AND SOONER OR LATER IT WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE COMING TO THE DEALER WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT HONDA ISSUED A RECALL ON 2000 AND 2001 HONDAS ACCORD TRANSMISSION BUT THEY DID NOT ISSUE THE RECALL FOR 1998 AND 1999. I'VE ENDED UP SELLING MY ACCORD AND GETTING ANOTHER 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX 2.3 VTECH AND FEW WEEKS AGO I'VE NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM. WHAT'S GOING ON? IF HONDA WON'T ISSUE ANOTHER RECALL FOR 1999 ACCORD TRANSMISSIONS, I'LL NEVER BUY HONDA AGAIN. *JB
CAR STALLED WHILE DRIVING. WAS ABLE TO GET CAR RESTART AFTER PUSHING IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CAR WOULD NOT START LATER IN THE DAY. HAD CAR TOWED TO NEAREST AUTO SHOP. SHOP INFORMED ME OF RECALL. CONTACTED NEAREST DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. SHOP REPLACED IGNITION SWITCH AND NEEDED TO REPROGRAM KEYS, RESULTING IN $700 BILL.*AK
1999 HONDA ACCORD V6 - THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND WILL NOT ENGAGE IN GEAR. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED TO HAPPEN, THE CAR WOULD REV UP TO HIGH RPM'S AND THEN ENGAGE. NOW THE ONLY WAY TO DRIVE IS PUT IN 2ND GEAR. IT WILL NOT SHIFT INTO 3RD OR 4TH AT ALL. ACCORDS FROM 2000 - 2004 HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE 1999 SHOULD ALSO BE RECALLED. THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY! *JB
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 40,000 MILES, HOWEVER IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO THEY FIXED IT AT A COST OF ROUGHLY $6000. NOW AT 82,000 MILES, THE FLUID IS LEAKING AND THEY ARE ADVISING ME TO PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT FOR ABOUT $4000. HONDA IS USING THERE GOOD NAME TO SELL A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND THE 98-99 V6 ACCORDS NEED TO BE RECALLED ALONG WITH THE 2000-2001. *AK
02 V 120 000/IGNITION SWITCH: AFTER HAVING THE RECALL REPAIRS DONE BY THE DEALER APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO, THE VEHICLE BEEN HAVING AN ON GOING / INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE STALLING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR RESOLVE THE ISSUE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR FELT AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR WAS AT ABOUT 95K MILES, BUT THIS SEEMED VERY EARLY FOR A TRANSMISSION TO GO OUT. I GOT THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT, WHICH COST ME ABOUT $1600. FILING THIS COMPLAINT AFTER A FEW YEARS, BUT I RECENTLY HEARD THE 1998 HONDA ACCORDS ARE HAVING A RECALL. MINE IS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. *TR
WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH IS SLIGHTLY INCLINED, THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 1999 ACCORD V6 WILL SLIP AS IF THE GEARS ARE NOT MESHING AND IT VIOLENTLY POPS. IT ALSO REQUIRES ME TO PRESS HARD ON THE ACCELERATOR FOR THE CAR TO EVEN BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO DOES NOT SHIFT SMOOTHLY WHEN DRIVING AND SOMETIMES DOWNSHIFTS ERRATICALLY, SUCH AS AFTER I'VE ALREADY STOPPED. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED WITH 72,000 MILES AFTER TAKING IT TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR A THOROUGH CHECKOUT PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE. I WAS NOT TOLD OF A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL BY THE DEALER, AND EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT OK EXCEPT THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDED TO BE CHANGED, WHICH I DID. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 1 WEEK, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED FOR THE FIRST TIME WITH ME. I CARRIED IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS "NORMAL" FOR A HONDA. WELL, IT'S NOT NORMAL FOR MY OTHER TWO HONDA ACCORDS (91 AND 92). IT NOW SLIPS EVERY DAY THAT I DRIVE IT AND I BELIEVE IT WILL COMPLETELY FAIL PRETTY SOON. I SUSPECT THE PREVIOUS OWNER PROBABLY HAD THE TRANSMISSION FIXED AND THEN SOLD IT TO ME. I ALSO HAVE A 2002 ODYSSEY, WHICH IRONICALLY, IS IN THE SHOP TODAY FOR A RECALL TO CHECK THE 2ND GEAR IN THE TRANMISSION FOR OVER-HEATING AND TO INSTALL A "OIL JET" WHATEVER THE HELL THAT IS. I AM VERY ANGRY AT HONDA AND WILL PROBABLY NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA OF ANY KIND IF A RECALL IS NOT ISSUED ON THESE OBVIOUSLY CHEAPLY DESIGNED AND DANGEROUS TRANSMISSIONS. WHY CAN'T YOU PUT SOME PRESSURE ON HONDA TO INCLUDE THE 1999 MODEL ACCORD WITH THE 2000+ MODELS FOR THE TRANS RECALL? IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM.*AK

TIRES MAKE EXCESSIVE NOISE. *AK
THE VEHICLES AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. *NM THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WERE INTERMITTENT, THE ALTERNATOR WAS FOUND FAULTY AND MADE NOISES, AND THERE WAS MOANING COMING FROM THE ENGINE AREA AT TIMES. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SC *JB
(1) DRIVER'S POWER SEAT WAS MOVED TO ITS MOST EXTREME REARWARD POSITION WHILE CLEANING UNDER THE SEAT. BACKREST WAS NOT MOVED OR UNLATCHED FROM IT'S NORMAL UPRIGHT POSITION. SEAT WAS THEN REPOSITIONED TO ITS NORMAL DRIVING LOCATION. (2) UPON SITTING IN THE SEAT AND LEANING BACK AGAINST THE BACKREST, IT GAVE WAY AND DRIVER FELL BACKWARDS. HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL PREVENTED DRIVER FROM FALLING INTO A NEARLY HORIZONTAL POSITION. UPON RELEASING PRESSURE AGAINST THE BACKREST, IT SPRANG BACK TO ITS NORMAL UPRIGHT POSITION. SEAT WOULD NOT LOCK INTO THE UPRIGHT POSITION. IF THE LATCH HAD FAILED WHILE DRIVING THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN BACKWARDS AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE WITH A POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH. (3) DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO OPERATE THE POWER SEAT'S VARIOUS CONTROLS CONTROLS TO RE-ENGAGE LATCHING MECHANISM WITHOUT SUCCESS. WHEN VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER, IT TOOK ABOUT AN HOUR OF DISASSEMBLING THE MODULE CONTAINING THE LATCHING MECHANISM MODULE BEFORE IT COULD BE MADE TO LOCK. TECHNICIAN COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY IT FAILED AND WHY IT REPAIRED ITSELF OR THAT IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE ORIGINAL MODULE. NEW PART WAS ORDERED AND IS TO BE REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE WEEK OF JULY 5- APPROXIMATE COST $400. PRESENTLY DON'T KNOW IF I CAN RETAIN CUSTODY OF OLD PART. *NM
WHILE PLACING THE KEY INSIDE THE IGNITION CONSUMER COULD REMOVE THE KEY WHILE IN PARK. CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD MOVE ON ITS OWN AND CAUSE A COLLISION. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK

1999 HONDA ACCORD LX, CAR HAS 100,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION IS GONE. I WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT IT WILL COST $5500 TO REPLACE. THIS IS UNHEARD OF WITH A HONDA. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT HONDA'S TRANSMISSION AND IT ISN'T JUST THE ACCORD, IT IS SEVERAL OTHER MODELS. WHAT IS GOING TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS? *LA
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY ACCORD WENT OUT AND WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING OR STOPPED. WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATE IN GEARING AND CAR WOULD JUMP FORWARD WHILE EVEN ON THE BRAKE. IF THE CAR WAS PLACED INTO REVERSE, IF ON A SLIGHT HILL, THE CAR WOULD ROLL FORWARDS OR BACKWARDS BEFORE CATCHING GEARS AND ACTING THE PROPER WAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED REPEATEDLY OVER THE COURSE OF A FEW WEEKS. FAILED TRANSMISSION IN 2 DIFFERNENT LATE 1990S HONDA CARS. THE FIRST BEING A 1998 HONDA CIVIC HX COUPE WITH VORTECH ENGINE AND THE SECOND BEING A 1999 HONDA ACCORD 4DR EX V6 (VORTECH) ENGINE. TRANMISSION FAILURE BETWEEN 80K AND 110K MILES. FOUND OTHER PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR HONDAS. *AK

I PLAN TO TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP (PATTY PECK HONDA, RIDGELAND) TO IMMEDIATE REPAIR. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY RECALL NOTICES ABOUT THIS DEFECT. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CATASTROPHIC FAILURE RETAINING PIN BROKE AND ALLOWED ONE OF GEARS ON SPIDER ASSEMBLY TO MOVE. THIS CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION- DAMAGING GEARS AND THE CORE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, SRS AIR BAG LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE AIR BAGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK ALL THE VEHICLE'S DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING AFTER THE DEALER REPLACED THE RECALLED IGNITION SWITCH. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE MANUFACTURER PAY FOR THE DOOR LOCK REPAIR. THEY AGREED TO PAY FOR THE PART BUT WANTED THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR THE LABOR. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THEY SHOULD PAY THE TOTAL EXPENSE. *NM
TRANSMISSION ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX HAS BEEN SLIPPING FOR QUITE SOME TIMES. I AM THE SECOND OWNER, HAVING BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THE COMPANY I WORKED FOR. PERFECTLY MAINTAINED, WITH MAINLY HIGHWAY MILES. MY TRANSMISSION IS NOW OUT COMPLETELY; WHEN IT WENT OUT, MY 4 YEAR OLD SON AND I HAD TO DRIVE BACK HOME, IN REVERSE. NOW I AM STRANDED AT MY HOME IN THE COUNTRY, 20 MILES FROM TOWN. I AM A SINGLE FATHER AND I NOW HAVE TO RELY ON MY PARENTS TO TAKE ME PLACES AS I CURRENTLY CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY $4-$5K TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE RECALL WAS ONLY DONE TO THE YEAR 2000 VEHICLES WHEN IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT THE PROBLEM WAS PREVELANT IN THE 1999 MODELS AS WELL. *AK
AS THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, MY CAR WAS TURNED TO IDEL AND ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK MY 99 ACCORD V6 TO THE DEALERSHIP , THEY SAID THAT A NEW TRANSMISSION TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WOULD COST $5200 AND PAYING OUT MY POCKET .
