AFTER FALLING ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL 70 MPH, THE CONSUMER HIT A ROAD SIGN AND THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE CAUSE WAS NOT DETERMINED. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT EXTERIOR LIGHTING FAILED TO WORK. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT IN A PRIOR SERVICE BULLETIN BY HONDA THESE COMPONENTS ARE ALL LINKED TO A FAULTY MULTIPEXOR SWITCH ( SERVICE BULLETIN #00-07C). IN TALKING TO HONDA THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE SERVICE BULLETIN WAS PERTAINING TO EXPORTS. THE CONSUMER AGREED TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE TO BE DONE NOW THE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL THE TIME NOW. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *TC
THE HORN FAILED TO WORK WHEN NEEDED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT HORN AND THE AIR BAG WERE DESIGNED ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THEY NEED TO REMOVE THE AIR BAG TO FIX THE HORN, AND THIS WILL COST $2500 AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. *AK THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT THE MANUFACTURER PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE IT APPEARED TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *NM
THE CONSUMER CAN REMOVE THE IGNITION KEY WITHOUT PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK. *JB
VEHICLE HESITATED AND JERKED. CONSUMER MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT TRANSMISSION WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
STICKING ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN A 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX SEDAN 4 CYL AUTOMATIC. THE ACCELERATOR STARTED STICKING AND WOULD RESULT IN A SUDDEN UNSAFE SURGE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. THE DEALER IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A CARBON BUILD-UP IN THE THROTTEL BODY WHICH RESULTED IN THE THROTTLE PLATE STICKING.
MY TRANSMISSION LOCKED AT 65 MPH ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK MY 99 ACCORD TO THE DEALERSHIP , THEY SAID IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT WOULD COST $2500, WHICH NOW HAS TO PAY OUT MY POCKET . THE HONDA HAS ONLY 93K. MY MOTHER IN LAWS TAURUS HAS 140000, AND IS STILL RUNNING FINE. IT'S A 1997. HOW DOES A 1997 TAURUS OUTLAST A 1999 ACCORD? IF THIS IS THE CASE THAT I HAVE TO NOW WORRY ABOUT WHEN I BUY A HONDA, THEN I MIND AS WELL INVEST IN A TOYOTA CAMRY IN THE FUTURE.*AK
I HAVE NOTICED A FEW WET SPOTS ON MY FLOOR OF MY GARAGE SO I CRAWLED UNDER CAR TO LOOK. I NOTICED FLUID COMING OUT FROM THE TRANSMISSION ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHERE THE AXLE GOES THROUGHT THE AXLE SEAL INTO THE TRANSMISSION. I TOOK THE CAR TO EXCLUSIVE HONDA /ACURA IN OMAHA NE. THEY CHECKED THE CAR OVER AND FOUND EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE OUTPUT SHAFT (AXEL). THEY ADVISED ME I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE CAR IS A 1999 ACCORD THAT HAS BEEN MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO MANUAL AND ONLY HAS 58000 MILES. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED AND ERRATIC SHIFT THAT IS VERY UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER RESTARTED VEHICLE AND PULL OVER. THEN, DROVE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE VEHICLE WAS IMPORTED FROM CANADA. *AK
1999 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 AUTO TRANSMISSION FAILURE. BEGAN UPON RETURN FROM 100K SERVICE BY HONDA DEALERSHIP. ERRATIC SHIFTING/SLIPPING OCCURS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FLUID LEAKS AT VARIOUS POINTS OF THE UNDER CHASSIS. MY ACCORD HAS ONLY BEEN SERVICED BY A HONDA SERVICE DEPT. WAS INFORMED BY TECH THAT A "FAULTY" CARRIER BEARING WAS NOTED. A "REFURB" TRANNY INSTALL WAS RECCOMMENDED ($3000) INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE FAULTY BEARING. *JB
WHILE PLACING THE KEY INSIDE THE IGNITION VEHICLE DID NOT TURN ON. CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER INFORMED THE MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM HAD OCCURRED MORE THAN ONCE. *AK
WHILE STARTING UP VEHICLE DRIVER'S FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ,AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE THOTTLE BODY WAS CORRODED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
1999 HONDA ACCORD - ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. DEALER SAYS NEED TO REPLACE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FOR $1100. THINK THIS IS A RIP OFF. BELIEVE IT HAPPENS TO MANY PEOPLE.*AK
I HAVE HONDA ACCORD LX MODEL 1999. I HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OF MY CAR STALLING WHILE DECELERATING. THIS PROBLEM IS SINCE LAST 12-18 MONTHS. I HAVE SHOWN THIS TO CAR DEALERS MULTIPLE TIMES BUT NOTHING SIGNIFICANT WAS TOLD TO ME. MOST OF THE TIME I AM UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHEN AT SERVICE CENTER BUT IT HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. SOMETIMES EVEN ON THE FREEWAY IT STALLS DURING DECELERATING. PLEASE CONSIDER IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN. CONSUMER LATER LEARNED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AT A VERY LOW MILEAGE, WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT, THE TRANSMISSION STARTS SLIPPING, AND THE CAR LOSES CONTROL. *AK

I HAVE A 99 HONDA ACCORD V6. MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISION LEAKS FLUID, IT DOES NOT SHIFT IN A RIGHT GEAR.I A WAS ON THE HILL SHIFTED TO D4 GEEAR AND MY CAR WENT DOWN AND DEMADGE MY FENCE,

UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND MOVING THE GEAR FROM THE PARK POSITION TO THE REVERSE POSITION, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED. *JB THERE WAS PERSISTENT INTERMITTENT SUDDEN ACCELERATION, UPON SHIFTING AFTER IGNITION FROM PARK. *SC *JB
1999 HONDA ACCORD EX COUPE V6 (CALIFORNIA) ENGINE STALLS IMMEDIATELY WHEN BLINKER/SIGNAL LEVER IS USED, FOR LEFT OR RIGHT TURN SIGNAL. WHEN ENGINE STALLS, GREEN "KEY" LIGHT FLASHES ON DASHBOARD. OTHERWISE, FAILURE HAPPENS RANDOMLY. FAILURE HAS OCCURRED BOTH WHILE DRIVING AT 60+ MPH AND WHILE VEHICLE IS STOPPED. AT HIGH SPEEDS, ENGINE STALLS AND THEN RESTARTS IN A FEW SECONDS. HAS NOT OCCURRED WHEN ENGINE WAS COLD/NOT-WARMED-UP. FAILURE OCCURRED ABOUT ONCE A MONTH AT FIRST, BUT IN THE LAST THREE MONTHS, AVERAGES ABOUT ONE FAILURE A WEEK. FAILURE STARTED HAPPENING AT AROUND 70,000 MILES. CAR NOW HAS ~92,000 MILES. CAR HAS HAD ONE OWNER SINCE PURCHASED NEW. CAR RECIEVES REGULAR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. CAR HAD COMPLETE TUNE-UP (OIL/FILTER,SPARK PLUGS, IGNITION CAP & ROTOR, IGNITION WIRES, TRANSMISSION FLUID (HONDA), AIR FILTER, FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER, ETC...) AFTER FIRST FAILURE. ALTERNATOR FAILED AND WAS REPLACED MANY MONTHS AFTER "STALLING/BLINKER" FAILURES FIRST OCCURRED, AND HAD NO APPARENT AFFECT ON STALLING PROBLEM. STALLING STILL OCCURS, AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT CAUSE IS.
TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON 1999 HONDA ACCORD V6 WITH ONLY 56000 MILES. *AK
THE CONSUMER PULLED THE SEAT BACK FORWARD TO PLACE ITEMS IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE SEAT BACK WAS PUSHED BACK TO THE ORIGINAL POSITION, THE BACK WOULD NOT STAY IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE SEAT BACK NOT IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION AND WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER WAS CITED BY THE POLICE AND SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES TO THE ARMS, LEGS AND HAND. *MR
99 ACCORD EX V6. DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND ACCELERATING. TRANSMISSION JOLTED THE ENTIRE CAR SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR, ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND FROM THAT POINT ON TRANSMISSION WAS EXTREMELY SLUGGISH AND JOLTING DURING DOWN SHIFT OR UPSHIFT. TOOK INTO DEALER WAS INFORMED IT NEEDED NEW TRANSMISSION FOR $6500. THIS CAR HAS 67000 MILES ON IT. FOUND SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET REGARDING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURES EXACTLY LIKE MINE IN V6 ACCORDS EXACTLY LIKE MINE. HONDA EXTENDED WARRANTY ON 2000 AND 2001 V6'S TO 7 YR/100K, BUT NOT 1998 OR 1999. MY CAR HAPPENS TO BE A 1999. WHEN A CLASS ACTION SUIT IS INITIATED, COUNT ME IN. I WILL FILE FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH AMERICAN HONDA. *JB

THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE WITH CAR KEY ON DRIVER'S SIDE, WHICH ONLY UNLOCKED THAT DOOR AND REAR DOORS. PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT UNLOCK. PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK WILL LOCK ALL DOORS, BUT DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK WILL NOT UNLOCK THE DOORS. CONSUMER HAS TO MANUALLY PULL UP LOCK LATCH AT WINDOW TO OPEN AND EXIT VEHICLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE. DOOR KEY USED ON PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE WILL UNLOCK DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND 1 REAR DOOR, INSIDE AUTOMATIC LOCK ON PASSENGER SIDE LOCKS DRIVER'S DOOR. DRIVER'S DOOR AUTOMATIC LOCK DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK AT ALL NOW. *LA
INTERNAL TORQUE CONVERTER PROBLEM; WOULD NOT PASS EMISSIONS; LOCK UP NOT COMING ON IN OVERDRIVE; REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF CYLINOIDS, TORGE, GASKET SEAL, TRANSMISSION FLUID, AND LABOR COSTS ($1241).*AK
TRANSMISSION SLIPS. THERE ARE ONLY 92,000 MILES ON THE CAR. DEALER ADVISED THAT TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $5200 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS IS HIGLY UNUSUAL FOR A CAR 5 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ESPECIALLY GIVEN THAT HONDA PROVIDED AN EXTENDED WARRANTEE ON THE SAME ACCORD IN 2000-2001.*AK
TRANSMISSION SHIFTS OUT OF GEAR INTERMITTIENTLY. *AK
THE TRANSMISSION IN MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX V-6 FAILED ON FEBRUARY 26, 2004. THE CAR HAS 66,800 MILES ON IT. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY IMPLEMENTED ON THIS MODEL YEAR AS THERE HAS BEEN ON THE 2000-2001 ACCORD AND THE '99-'01 ODYSSEY. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE SHOP FOREMAN AT MY HONDA DEALER AND HIM REVEALING TO ME THAT THEY PERFORM APPROXIMATELY 3-5 TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS EACH WEEK ON THE HONDA ACCORD('98-'01), I THOUGHT IT HIGHLY SUSPECT THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO RECTIFY THE PROLEM TO OTHER YEARS IN THIS MODEL. *AK
TRANSMISSION SLIPS HORRIBLY; GEARS ARE ALL SCREWED UP; TORQUE CONVERT CLUTCH CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION ; ALMOST GOT HIT BY AN 18 WHEELER WHEN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION; WAS TOLD THAT IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM IN 1999 V6 ACCORDS. *AK ENGINE ERROR CODE: P0740
GAS PEDAL STICKS WHEN STARTING THE CAR. MUST PRESS HARD TO GET CAR IN MOTION AND THEN QUICKLY LET OFF SO CAR WILL NOT GO OUT OF CONTROL SPEED WISE. USUALLY WHEN CAR HAS BEEN SETTING FOR A WHILE OR COLD OUTSIDE. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE IN PARKING LOTS OR ANYWHERE PEOPLE MAY BE WALKING BY CAR WHEN THIS HAS TO BE DONE AS THE CAR "JUMPS" AND THE ENGIN REVES UP. BEEN DOING THIS FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. GIVING THE LAST DATE IT OCCURRED.*AK
PASSANGER DOOR DOES NOT LOCK CONSISTANTLY WHEN AUTOMATIC LOCKING SYSTEM IS USED. IT WILL ALSO NOT UNLOCK WHEN SYSTEM IS USED. IT WORKS SOME TIMES AND NOT OTHERS. I CAN PULL UP ON THE LOCK OR PRESS DOWN TO ENGAGE OR DISENGAGE. THIS IS ONGOING AND HAS BEEN FOR THE PAST MONTH OR SO.*AK
I JUST PURCHASED A 1999 HONDA ACCORD EXV6 COUPE FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER WHO KEPT EXCELLENT RECORDS ON THE SCHEDULED MAINTAINCE ACCORDING TO THE FACTORY MANUAL. THE COMPLAINT I HAVE IS THAT THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS FAILING WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES ON THE CAR. I HAVE READ WHERE THE HONDA RECALLED 16000 ACCORDS WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND REPLACED THEM ON 2000 AND 2001 ACCORDS. WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO SKIP THE 1999 PROBLEMS? THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY. THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS THAT THE ENGINE SPEEDS UP AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE CAUSES THE TIRES TO BREAK LOOSE CAUSING THE CAR TO LOOSE TRACTION AND WHEN THE TIRES REGAIN THEIR GRIP ON THE ROAD THE CAR DARTS OUT INTO TRAFFIC. *JB
WHILE PULLING OUT INTO A ROADWAY AT A HURRIED PACE TO AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC, MY '99 ACCORD WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE RPM'S JUST INCREASED. AN ONCOMING VEHICLE NOTICED THAT I WAS NOT GETTING OUT OF THE WAY AND SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES. FORTUNATELY, BEFORE AN IMPACT OCCURED, MY HONDA VIOLENTLY SLAMMED INTO GEAR AND I GOT OUT OF THE WAY OF THE OTHER VEHICLE, BUT THE ACCELERATION WAS SO SUDDEN I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN. THE ACCORD IMPACTED THE CURB, CAUSING TIRE AND RIM DAMAGE. THE TRANSMISSION IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE AND I AM DISMAYED TO FIND THAT HONDA KNOWS THE TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE, YET WILL DO NOTHING TO HELP '99 OWNERS. HONDA NEEDS TO RECALL ALL THESE TRANSMISSIONS, NOT JUST THE 2000/01 BECAUSE THEY ARE A THREAT TO DRIVER SAFETY (AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED). I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED HONDA'S CARS BUT MAY CONSIDER ANOTHER VEHICLE IF HONDA ALLOWS THEIR BOTTOM LINE TO ENDANGER CUSTOMER SAFETY. *LA

ELECTRIC MALFUNCTION FOR HONDA ACCORD EX 1999 , DOOR REMOTE KEY DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY AND MOST OF THE TIME KEY LESS ENTRY DOES NOT WORK FOR ALL THE DOORS. I TOOK CAR FOR REGULAR SERVICE AT HONDA DEALER IN RICHMOND VA, AND I ASKED THE SERVICE MAN TO FIX THE DOOR LOCK PROBLEM BECAUSE THE REMOTE KEY DOOR LOCK IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND I HAVE TO PRESS THE DOOR LOCK NOB(S) TO LOCK THE DOOR AFTER INVESTIGATION HONDA DEALER SERVICE MAN NOT ABLE TO FIND OR LOCATE THE PROBLEM AND HONDA CHARGE ME $40 FOR JUST TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM I CAN UNDERSTAND HE SPEND HIS TIME, THIS IS ALRIGHT FOR ME. BUT LATER ON HONDA SERVICE MAN CALLED ME THAT I NEED TO INVESTIGATE IT MORE AND THAT WILL COST $120 MORE AND AT THAT TIME HE HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT IS WORNG WITH THE DOOR(S) LOCK PROBLEM. I ASKED HIM WHAT IS YOUR FINDING ABOUT THE DOOR LOCK PROBLEM. HE SAID IT MAY BE BECAUSE MOUSE MAY HAVE CUT THE ELECTRIC WIRES FOR THE DOOR LOCK , BY THE WAY I NOTICE THIS PROBLEM IOWA AND IT WAS FREEZING COLD IN JAN-FEB HOW COME A MOUSE GO INSIDE THE DOOR AND SERVIVE AND I HAD OPEN PARKING IN IOWA. I THINK THIS IS SOME FAULTY WORKMAN SHIP AT HONDA OR THE EQUIPMENT IS FAULTY WHICH CONTROL THE DOOR LOCK. NOW PRESSING THE DOOR LOCK BUTTON DOES NOT CLOSE ALL THE DOORS SO I HAVE TO PRESS THE DOOR NOB TO CLOSE THE DOOR. MY FAMILY USED TO SAY THEY GET STATIC ELECTRIC SHOCK SOMETIMES WHEN THE GET OUT OF THE CAR AND THEY CLOSE THE DOOR(S). I HAVE ONE EXTRA PROBLEM NOW EARLIER IT WAS ONLY DOOR LOCK PROBLEM NOW SECURITY LIGHT ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR STOP COMING ON. *LA
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 1999 HONDA ACCORD (PURCHASED NEW) WITH 57,400 MILES. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN HILL IN WET BUT NOT RAINY CONDITIONS, MY BRAKES FAILED. THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR & I LOST ALL BRAKING POWER. I WAS NOT ABLE TO PUMP THE BRAKES BACK UP AND THERE WERE NO BRAKE INDICATOR OR WARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME ON. IT WAS NOT AN ABS ACTIVATED SYSTEM BECAUSE THE PEDAL SIMPLY FELL TO THE FLOOR. AFTER THE CAR SAT FOR APPROX. 30 MINUTES, FULL BRAKING POWER RETURNED. THERE WAS ALSO A BURNING SMELL, WITH A FOUL ODOR. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP, NO PROBLEM COULD BE FOUND. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A ONE-TIME OCCURRANCE. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A HONDA DEALER (THIS IS THE 5TH HONDA I HAVE OWNED & I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM) THE DEALER GAVE TWO REASONS FOR LOSS OF BRAKES/PEDAL TO THE FLOOR: LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID (MINE WAS FINE) OR A PROBLEM WITH THE INTERNAL SEAL IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. THE DEALER REPLACED MY MASTER CYLINDER AND BLED THE WHOLE SYSTEM. THE CAR HAS RATHER LOW MILEAGE & HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED. MY CHILD & HIS FRIEND WERE IN THE CAR WITH ME WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. THERE WAS NO CRASH AS I USED THE E-BRAKE AND WAS ABLE TO COME TO A SLOW STOP (IT TOOK APPROX. 1BLOCK) AND I WAS ONLY TRAVELING APPROX. 30 MPH. *AK
1999 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ISSUE. VEHICLE PURCHASED SEPT 2000 WITH APPROX 15K MILES. VEHICLE BEGAN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION NOT ENGAGING AFTER THROTTLE HAD BEEN PRESSED AT APPROX 42K MILES. BAD HESITATION, AND ON AN ALMOST DAILY BASIS. PRESS ON THE GAS, THE ENGINE REVS, BUT VEHICLE BARELY MOVES AND WHEN IT DOES ENGAGE IT IS VERY HARSH. DANGEROUS TRYING TO ENTER FREEWAYS, PASS OTHER VEHICLES OR CROSS STREETS/INTERSECTIONS. THE BASIC HONDA WARRANTY OF ONLY 3/YR 36K MILES HAD ALREADY LAPSED. TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD BEEN CHANGED IN AUG 2002 WITH 31K MILES. AGAIN CHANGED(DRAIN/FILL) IN JUNE 2004 WITH 46K MILES AND AGAIN IN SEPT 2006 WITH 61K MILES. HONDA TRANSMISSION FLUID USED. *JB
TIRES ALL FAILED 2/2004. NO APPARENT REASON. P195/65R15. DOT EJ9NCAL2502 AND EJ9NCAL2402 PURCHASED 9/2002 APROX 20,000 MILES OF USE. *AK
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 53K!. TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY JERKED CAR FORWARD AT STOP LIGHT FORCING IT INTO INTERSECTION. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED AS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. NO EXTENDED WARRANT FROM HONDA FOR '99 MODELS. UNLESS HONDA TAKES CARE OF ITS DEFECTIVE PARTS IT WILL BE MY LAST HONDA. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION! *JB
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. *JB THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE NEW TRANSMISSIONS HAVE UPDATED CARRIER BEARINGS. THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION HAD DEFECTIVE CARRIER BEARINGS WHICH SPREAD METAL DEBRIS THROUGHOUT THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CONSUMER SENT A PETITION LETTER BUT DID NO RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION FROM ODI WHETHER IT WAS RECEIVED OR WHAT POSSIBLE ACTION WOULD BE TAKEN. *NM
1999 HONDA ACCORD, TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER ONLY 59,000 MILES! ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ONLY 5 MILES BEFORE I TOOK IT TO AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER WHO DEEMED IT UNSAFE TO DRIVE! I DO NOT HAVE ALL THE SERVICE RECORDS BUT I KNOW I DID TAKE IT FOR EVERY SINGLE SERVICE SUGGESTED IN THE MANUAL. NOT ONLY DOES HONDA KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM (IT EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON 2000 AND 2001 MODELS, WHICH ARE IDENTICAL TO THE 1999) BUT JUST IN MY SMALL TOWN ALONE I PERSONALLY KNOW OF 2 OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!AFTER MUCH PRESSING, HONDA AGREED TO PAY FOR LESS THAN A THIRD OF THE $5000.00 COST OF NEW TRANSMISSION BIG DEAL! ALSO THEY REFUSED TO PAY FOR MY RENTAL (NOW GOING ON 2 WEEKS)....IT TOOK THEM OVER W EEK TO RESPOND TO MY COMPLAINT LEAVING ME EITHER DRIVING AN UNSAFE (IN THEIR WORDS) CAR OR RENTING 1! *LA
I FIRST NOTICED A DIFFERENCE IN MY 99 ACCORD COUPE V6 TRANSMISSION WHEN IT WAS COLD OUT. THE CAR JERKED BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR. IT RAN FINE ONCE THE CAR WARMED UP. WHEN I CALLED HONDA TO ASK ABOUT THE ISSUE, I WAS TOLD OLDER CARS DO THAT AND IT WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF LATER THE TRANSMISSION STARTED JERKING BETWEEN 3RD AND 4TH WHEN BELOW 40 MPH. MY CAR THEN WOULD NOT LEAVE A STOPPED POSITION UNTIL HITTING AT LEAST 2500 RPM'S THEN IT KICKED INTO GEAR. I TOOK MY CAR TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP - THEY FLUSHED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID - CHARGED ME $85 AND ON A SIDE NOTE ON THE BILL THEY STATED "TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACEMENT - INTERNAL DAMAGE". THEY DID NOT TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS NOR DID THEY OFFER TO REPAIR THIS AT A CHARGE. WHEN I PURCHASED MY CAR I BOUGHT THE 100,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY, WHICH I PAID CLOSE TO $1500 FOR. HONDA REALIZED THERE WAS AN ISSUE AND EXTENDED THE 100,000 MILE WARRANTY AUTOMATICALLY FOR THE 2000-2002 MODELS. I HAD APPROXIMATELY 108,000 MILES ON MY CAR WHEN I TOOK IT TO HONDA FOR THIS ISSUE. AFTER DEALING WITH HONDA CUSTOMER CARE FOR OVER 3 WEEKS I GOT NOTHING BUT A RUN AROUND FROM THEM. I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE COMPANY THAT HANDLES THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE, THIS COMPANY TOLD ME THEY WERE NOT SURE WHY HCC REFERRED ME TO THEM B/C IT WAS HCC DECISION OF HOW THEY WANTED TO HANDLE MY CASE. IN THE END HONDA DID NOTHING FOR ME. I TOOK MY CAR TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP; AFTER THEY TORE DOWN THE TRANSMISSION THEY FOUND EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. I WAS TOLD THAT THE 2ND GEAR THRUSTER BARRING HAD FALLEN INTO THE PUMP WHICH DESTROYED IT, 2ND GEAR WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED, THE ELECTRICAL CYLINDER WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR, AND THE REMAINING 3 GEAR THRUSTER BEARINGS HAD ALSO FALLEN OUT. IN THE END IT COST ME OVER $3000 ($2000 IN PARTS ALONE) AND ALMOST 2 MONTHS TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE TO MY TRANSMISSION. *LA
