CAR WRECK BROKE ARM IN TWO PLACES BY AIRBAG
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH OVER A POTHOLE, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE IGNITION WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE SRS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT DURING THE MOST RECENT FAILURE, THE SRS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I BOUGHT MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD 4CYL. ABOUT ONE MONTH AGO FROM AN OWNER. DROVE PERFECT FOR THE FIRST WEEK. THEN ONE MORNING MY BRAKE PEDAL GOT REALLY SOFT. AFTER CHECKING ALL FLUIDS AND LEAKS FOUND OUT THAT MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A SMALL SHOP TO GET MY BRAKE LINES REPLACED. I THEN GOT A CALL A FEW DAYS LATER SAYING I SHOULD GO DOWN AND CHECK SOMETHING THEY NOTICED ON MY CAR. TURNS OUT THE PASSENGER SUBFRAME IS RUSTED AND ROTTED OUT. EVERYTHING ELSE UNDERNEATH THE CAR IS CLEAN. THE MECHANIC SAID IT'S WEIRD THAT ONLY THE PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED. HE TOLD ME IT COULD BREAK APART ANYTIME. BEING THAT IT'S NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE I HAVE TO GET IT REPLACED NOW. THE COST IS GOING TO BE ABOUT $1200 WITH LABOR. WHEN I GOT HOME I STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I DO ON THEIR HONDA ACCORDS. HONDA SHOULD DO A RECALL ON THIS BEING IT'S A STRUCTURAL COMPONENT TO CAR AND SAFETY ISSUE. HOPEFULLY HONDA WILL RECALL THIS SUBFRAME PROBLEM AND REIMBURSE ME LATER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD IT MADE LOUD BANGING NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE MECHANIC TO DISCOVER THAT THE SUB-FRAME WAS RUSTED. AFTER INVESTIGATING, I COME TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO ALOT OF HONDA ACCORDS MADE IN (1999-2002). (HTTP://WWW.NEWSNET5.COM/NEWS/LOCAL-NEWS/INVESTIGATIONS/CENTER-FOR-AUTO-SAFETY-REQUESTING-RECALL-OF-1-5-MILLION-HONDA-ACCORDS-FOR-RUST-ISSUE-IN-SUB-FRAME) FURTHER MORE, HONDA CHANGED THE DESIGN LOCATION OF THE DRAINAGE HOSE IN 2003, AND SAID IT WAS UNRELATED TO SUB-FRAME RUST. NHTSA NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOME IS KILLED BECAUSE OF HONDA FAILED ENGINEERING. THE COST TO REPLACE THE SUB-FRAME IS ABOUT $1300.00 + INCIDENTALS. *TR
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE REVEALED SHOCKING FINDING: THE R/F CORNER OF SUBFRAME IS RUSTED THROUGH AND BREAKING. DEALER ADVISES IT SHOULD BE REPLACED ASAP AND THAT THE CAR IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. OBVIOUSLY IT MAKES NO SENSE TO SPEND THE $2,500+TAX THAT THE DEALER PROPOSES, AS THE CAR IS BARELY WORTH THAT MUCH. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN 1998-2002 HONDAS AS THE AIR CONDITIONER DRIPS RIGHT ONTO THIS PART OF THE SUBFRAME. THE INCONTROVERTIBLE EVIDENCE IS THE DOZENS OF OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR SUBFRAME RUST FILED HERE WITH THE NHTSA AND ELSEWHERE - ALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE - AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT HONDA CHANGED THE DESIGN ON THE 2003 MODELS. I DON'T KNOW WHY THE NHTSA IS WAITING TO FORCE A RECALL?? WHAT IF I HADN'T GOTTEN THE MAINTENANCE FOR ANOTHER FEW MONTHS?? WHAT COULD HAVE POTENTIALLY HAPPENED?? COULD I HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AS THE BOTTOM PARTIALLY FELL OUT?? THIS IS A SERIOUS INJURY, IF NOT DEATH, WAITING TO HAPPEN! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!??? AS FOR HONDA, I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN. THEY OFFERED MINIMAL GOODWILL ASSISTANCE, AND, THROUGH THE DEALER, BASICALLY SAID, IT'S AN OLD CAR, PARTS FAIL. DISGUSTING THE CALLOUSNESS AND DISREGARD FOR CUSTOMER LOYALTY. THIS CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE WORTH APPROX $2,500 RESALE VALUE GIVEN ITS MILEAGE AND CONDITION OTHERWISE. NOW IT'S A HEAP OF METAL. HONDA, I'LL TAKE MY HARD-EARNED MONEY TO YOUR COMPETITORS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR CONDITION HOSE WAS LEAKING WATER ONTO SUB FRAME CAUSING IT TO RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STEER PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE SUB-STRUCTURE HAD BECOME RUSTED AND DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WHEN SHIFTED INTO GEAR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT NO WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AT LESS THAN 70,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX IS FAILING, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR HAS BARLEY BEEN DRIVEN. I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE DELAYED GEAR ENGAGEMENT, BOTH ON UP SHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS AS WELL AS TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKAGE WHICH WAS INITIALLY DIAGNOSED AS A BAD LEFT SIDE AXLE SEAL. WHEN THE MECHANIC PROCEEDED TO FIX THE AXLE SEAL, HE THEN RE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BAD BEARINGS AND A FAULTY TRANSMISSION, A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2000 & 2001 ACCORDS. SINCE THEN I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS AND TRANSMISSION SPECIALISTS FOR A SECOND OPINION, WHO HAVE REACHED THE VERY SAME CONCLUSION/DIAGNOSIS. A VAST MAJORITY OF THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2000 AND 2001 ACCORDS HAVE FAILED OR ARE HAVING PROBLEMS. THE SCARY PART IS ALL THE TRANSMISSION SHOPS ARE FAMILIAR WITH THIS ISSUE, SOME OF THEM SEE AN ACCORD OR AN ODYSSEY (SIMILAR PROBLEM) ONCE A WEEK! FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE/INVESTIGATION THE COMMON CONSENSUS IS; THE HONDA TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE LATE 90'S WERE BULLETPROOF BECAUSE THEY WERE SPECIFICALLY BUILT FOR THE CARS FROM THE 90'S. HOWEVER, WHEN HONDA UPGRADED THE SIZE OF THEIR ENGINES AND POWER, HONDA USED THE SAME 90'S TRANSMISSIONS, WHICH IN THE LONG RUN COULD NO LONGER HANDLE THE LARGER ENGINE CAPACITY OR THE EXTRA POWER AND EVENTUALLY FAIL. IN 2006 HONDA WAS HIT WITH A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. HONDA SETTLED THE MATTER OUT OF COURT BY EXTENDING THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO 93 MONTHS OR 109,000 MILES. HOWEVER, HONDA NEVER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY REDESIGNING THE TRANSMISSIONS OR PROVIDED A FIX. INSTEAD, HONDA SIMPLY REPLACED THE OLD FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS WITH NEW TRANSMISSIONS THAT STILL HAD THE SAME FAULTY DESIGN. NOW, ALL THE TRANSMISSION IN THOSE CARS ARE FAILING AS WELL AND HONDA DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY, CLAIMING THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
AFTER GOING OVER A SMALL SHARP SPEED BUMP IN A PARKING LOT THE LEFT FRONT DRIVERS SEAT "L" BRACKET BROKE, ALLOWING THE SEAT TO TILT BACK AND FORTH AND THE SRS LIGHT TO CAME ON. A HONDA DEALER TOLD ME , IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR POSSIBLY WELDED. COSTS RANGED ($300-$400) FOR WELDING OR NEW SEAT BRACKET ($1300 - $1500). *TR
I BACKED MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN UPHILL INTO MY GARAGE, TOOK THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND STARTED TO GO INTO MY HOUSE WHEN I HEARD A STRANGE NOISE. WHEN I TURNED AROUND THE HONDA WAS ROLLING DOWNHILL TOWARDS MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE, IT STOPPED SHORT OF HITTING MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE BY SOME SHRUBS AND A SMALL TREE. NO SERIOUS DAMAGE HAPPENED. I STILL HAD THE KEY IN MY HAND AND WHEN I CHECKED THE HONDA THE TRANSMISSION WAS IN REVERSE. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO REMOVE THE KEY IN EACH GEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY IN EVERY POSITION. I TOOK THE HONDA TO A LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID NO RECALL WAS ON MY HONDA FOR THAT PROBLEM AND THAT I HAD NO RECOURSE EXCEPT TO HAVE IT REPAIRED ON MY OWN. I ALWAYS HEARD SAFETY RECALLS NEVER EXPIRED BUT I GUESS I WAS MISINFORMED. I LOCATED AN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V025000 THAT STATED HONDA ACCORD 1999-2002 IGNITION KEY INTERLOCK (THE KEY CAN BE TAKEN OUT OF THE IGNITION IN ANY GEAR AND THE CAR COULD ROLL AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR). POSSIBLY CAUSING DAMAGE OR DEATH? *TR
THE CAR MADE A KNOCKING SOUND AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT AT 55 MILES PER HOUR. MECHANIC NOTICED THE SUB FRAME ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED OUT AND STATED IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. ENTIRE FRONT SUB FRAME TO BE REPLACED. NO EVIDENCE OF RUST ON THE REST OF THE SUB FRAME OR UNDERCARRIAGE.
WHEN THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED, THE ASR LIGHT TURNS ON. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY SLIPPED TO NEUTRAL AND WOULD NOT GO BACK TO DRIVING. WHITE SUV BEHIND ME ENDED UP SMALL COLLIDING WITH MY BACK BUMPER. *TR
VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ATTEMPTING TO GO UP A HILL THE CAR LOST POWER PAST 3 AND 4 GEAR. WOULD PULL CAR OVER LET IT COOL OF AND CONTINUE A FEW MORE MILES DOWN THE ROAD FOR IT TO DO THE SAME THING. CAR IS NOW PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY UNABLE TO BE DROVE. *TR
I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA WITH PROBLEMS ACCELERATING UP A HILL AND SOMETIME ON FLAT LAND AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $4300. I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A SERVICE MANAGER BECAUSE I ONLY TAKE MY CAR TO HONDA TO BE SERVICED AND NOW ALL OF A SUNDEN I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. WELL THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 WERE BAD. THIS PROMPTED ME TO GO ONLINE AND DO RESEARCH, AND THERE WERE A WHOLE LOT OF COMPLAINTS. THESE COMPLAINTS STATED A LOT OF ISSUES I HAD WITH MY CAR WHEN I FIRST GOT IT SPECIFICALLY I COULDNT GET MY CAR TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR FROM PARK. MY CAR BROKE DOWN ON ME SO MUCH IN THE EARLIER YEARS IT WAS RIDICULOUS. SO I CALLED HONDA TO NO AVAIL SINCE I FELT MY ISSUES WERE COVERED UP WHEN I HAD A WARRANTY WITH THEM. THEY SAID THEY COULDNT HELP ME IM AT 116,000 MILES AND THEY EXTENDED THE MILEAGE TO 109,000 ON THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. I WOULD SAY THAT THIS IS BAD BUSINESS FOR HONDA. THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE A RECALL. THEY SEVICE TECHS SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE THOROUGH. *TR

WHILE GETTING NEW FRONT TIRES THE SERVICE TECH POINTED OUT THE RUSTED PASSENGER SIDE SUB FRAME AND SHOWED ME THE PERFECT DRIVERS SIDE. LOOKING UP WAS THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN THAT CAUSED THE DECAY. *TR
A MONTH AND A HALF AGO I TOOK MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD FOR EXHAUST REPAIR, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE SUBFRAME THAT HOLD THE CAR ENGINE MOTOR HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED, I WENT AHEAD AND TO THE CAR TO HONDA MOTORCAR DEALER BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE HOOD LATCH SWITCH THAT MADE THE FACTORY CAR ALARM SYSTEM TO GO OFF NON-STOP, I LIVING A NIGHTMARE. NWAY THE DEALER WANTED AND STILL WANT 400 TO REPLACE THE HOOD LATCH SWITCH, THE DEALER ALSO SAID THE SAME THING THE MECHANIC HAD SAID EARLIER THAT THE VEHICLE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED, THEY NEED ALMOST 1200 DOLLARS TO DO SO. THIS A MAJOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLE THAT CAN ACCIDENT AND DEATH. I NEED TO DRIVE MY CAR EVERY DAY FOR WORK PURPOSES. HOW COMES THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS MAJOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENT THAT HOLDS THE VEHICLE TOGETHER. *TR
I HAD A SCHEDULE OIL CHANGE AND THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT MY SUBFRAME WAS RUSTING AWAY. HE INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR. THE SUBFRAME SHOULD NOT BE IN THIS CONDITION AS A RESULT OF NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION. I DO HAVE PHOTO'S OF THIS PART. *TR
I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A CERTIFIED AUTO SHOP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND DURING THE INSPECTION THE MECHANIC LIFTED THE CAR AND ALLOWED ME TO TAKE PICTURES OF THE RUSTED SUB- FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT IS VERY CLEAR THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT DRAINS DIRECTLY INTO SUB-FRAME CAUSING CONDENSATION ALONG WITH A PUDDLE OF WATER SITTING ON THE FRAME WHICH CAUSED A RUSTED HOLE IN THE SUB-FRAME. THE SPOUT FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO ALLOW THE WATER TO GO DIRECTLY ONTO THE GROUND. DUE THE FAULTY DESIGN SEVERAL HONDA OWNERS WILL NEED TO HAVE THEIR SUB FRAME REPLACE ALONG WITH THE BEARING. THIS IS A HIGH SAFETY RISK WHILE DRIVING, THE RUSTED FRAME COULD FALL APART AND POTENTIALLY CAUSING ACCIDENT. *TR
I LEARNED WHEN I CHANGE MY OIL. I NOTICE THE SUBFRAME HAVE FELL OFF AND RUST OUT. I CALL THE HONDA DEALER AND THEY SENT ME TO V MAIL. *TR
WHILE BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR BRAKE WORK, THE STAFF NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH, WAS BROKEN, AND WAS LIKELY PUTTING STRESS ON THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING. FIVE DAYS LATER, I RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE OUT-OF-TOWN USER CAR SALES/SERVICE BUSINESS FROM WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED AND THEY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM, TRACING IT TO RUNOFF FROM CONDENSATION OVER THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR DIRECTLY ON TO THE CORRODED AREA. BECAUSE OF THE PRE-EXISTING NATURE OF THE PROBLEM, THE USED CAR SALESMAN IS WILLING TO PAY 50% OF THE COST, BUT PARTS (EVEN WITH THE USE OF A RUST-FREE USED SUBFRAME) AND LABOR TOTAL COST IS $1,200. *TR

I WENT IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED OUT ON THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE. FROM WHAT HE SAID AND WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING, THIS IS QUITE COMMON. WITH HOW SERIOUS THIS IS, I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY HONDA DOES NOT RECALL VEHICLES FOR THIS ISSUE. WITH THE AC LEAKING RIGHT ONTO THIS SPOT AND THEM FIXING THAT DEFECT AFTER 2002, IT IS CLEARLY THEIR FAULT. IT IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND AN OVERALL HASSLE FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN'T HAPPEN, EVEN IN A 15 YEAR OLD CAR. *TR
THE SUBFRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS RUSTED OUT. THE RUST IS BELOW THE AC DRAIN HOSE. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE DEALER GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $1600 FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
THE AC RUBBER HOSE LEAKS WATER AND DRIPS ON THE SUB FRAME CAUSING THE SUB FRAME TO RUST OUT. THE RUST TOTALLY CRACKED THE SUB FRAME, WHICH IN TURN, CAUSED THE SUSPENSION TO THE BE LOOSE. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE, THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HUNDRED OF CONSUMERS. WOULD TAKE SEVERAL TIMES OF HAVING ONE FOOT ON BRAKE AND ONE FOOT ON GAS TO GET IT TO START AGAIN.TRANSMISSION IS ACTING LIKE IT IS SLIPPING. JUST BOUGHT THIS USED CAR LAST YEAR. LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP, DON WESSEL, OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI ACTED LIKE EVERYTHING WAS FINE WITH THE CAR WHEN WE BOUGHT IT. TOOK IT IN THERE THEY GOT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF BUT THEN IT CAME BACK ON A FEW DAYS LATER. TRIED TO GET THEM TO FIX IT BUT THEY WOULDN'T. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER PLACE THEY, HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND SAID THAT ALL CYLINDERS WERE MISFIRING, AND THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION. TRYING TO FIND A PLACE TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION. WE THINK DEALERSHIP SHOULD FIX IT SINCE WE BOUGHT IT THERE AND THEY DID NOT THINK ANYTHING WAS WRONG EVEN AFTER WE BROUGHT IT BACK AND TOLD THEM THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND CAR IS STILL ACTING UP. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE MECHANIC FOR TWO ISSUES: A POSSIBLE BRAKE FLUID LEAK, AND A WEAK TO ALMOST NONFUNCTIONAL A/C IN THE SUMMER MONTHS. HE TOLD ME THAT MY FRONT PASSENGER SEAT SUBFRAME WAS COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT DUE TO RUST (THE RUST WAS NOT MENTIONED WHATSOEVER DURING THE CAR'S INSPECTION ONLY 6 MONTHS PRIOR) AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. CHECKED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A WIDELY PREVALENT ISSUE WITH GEN 6 ACCORDS (98 - 02). I'VE LIVED IN A SNOWY CITY FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR, BUT THERE IS NO APPRECIABLE RUST ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE CAR. ONLY IN THIS ONE SPOT, WHICH IS DIRECTLY UNDER THE A/C DRAIN. HONDA CHANGED THE LOCATION OF THE A/C DRAIN IN 2003 (WITH THEIR 7TH GEN ACCORDS), AND THIS PROBLEM IS NOT AN ISSUE ON THOSE CARS. HONDA HAS SAID THAT IT IS JUST A COINCIDENCE, BUT THEY ARE BETTER OFF PUTTING OUT A RECALL AND COVERING THE COST OF REPLACING THESE FRONT PASSENGER SUBFRAMES THAN HAVING TO PAY FOR A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ONCE SOMEBODY IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE OF A ROTTING SUBFRAME. WHILE I THINK THAT MY WEAK A/C MAY BE WHAT CAUSED THE ACCELERATION OF THIS SUBFRAME ROT, IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE WITH THE SUBFRAME AND HONDA HAS MADE NO ATTEMPTS TO RECONCILE THE ISSUE. FORD DID A RECALL ON A 12 YEAR OLD CAR WHEN THEY DISCOVERED A DESIGN FLAW. SHOULD I CALL MY CONGRESS MAN TO GET THIS PROBLEM TO BE KNOWN TO THE MASS PUBLIC. I NOTICED THAT DURING SIDE WIND OR GOING OVER DIPS IN HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE WOULD WANDER AND SWAY MAKING STEERING QUITE DIFFICULT AND SO I HAD MIDAS DO A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHICH DIDN'T HELP. THE MIDAS INSPECTOR TOLD ME THAT HE WASN'T ABLE TO GUARANTEE THE ALIGNMENT, SINCE HE THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN WRECKED AND THAT THE FRAME WAS OUT OF KILTER. HOWEVER I RESEARCHED ONLINE, AND FOUND THAT THIS WAS A TYPICAL DESIGN FLAW ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL, WHERE THE A/C LIQUID DISCHARGE WAS RIGHT ABOVE THE SUB-FRAME AND HAD RUSTED THE REAR CROSS MEMBER COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM THE FRAME. ON MAY 29, 2014 OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR CAR AND HAD JUST DROPPED A FRIEND OFF AT THE BUS STATION, AFTER THE FRIEND GOT OUT OF THE CAR, SHE PULLS OFF AND GOES AROUND A CORNER AND THE CAR ACCELERATES AND JUMPS A CURB, UPROOTS A TREE, HITS A PARKED CAR, WHICH CRASHES INTO ANOTHER PARKED CAR. SWAY BAR IS NO LONGER ATTACHED TO THE FRAME. $1600 REPAIR & HE CAN NOT EVEN FIND A PART AS HE HAS SEEN SO MANY OF THIS SAME PROBLEM IN LAST COUPLE YEARS. TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC TO INSPECT WHEEL NOISE. INSPECTION RESULTED IN REPLACEMENT OF BALL JOINT. INSPECTION ALSO REVEALED 80-85% RUST-OUT OF SUBFRAME ON PASSENGER SIDE. NO OTHER UNDERCARRIAGE RUST IS EVIDENT AND THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THIS IS THE SAME AREA OF THE SUBFRAME WHICH HAS BEEN REPORTED AS A 'DEFECT' DUE TO FACTORY PLACEMENT OF THE A/C DRAIN HOSE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION WAITING TO HAPPEN. *JS

SUB-FRAME RUSTING: UPON RECENT INSPECTION THIS VEHICLE WAS DETERMINED TO HAVE RUSTING THROUGH THE SUB-FRAME ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE RESULTING IN FAILURE TO PASS INSPECTION DUE TO BEING UNSAFE. COST TO REPAIR AND REPLACE THE PART AND ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO BE SAFE TO DRIVE WILL BE $1500.00. NO OTHER SIGN OF RUST ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THIS VEHICLE. UPON RESEARCH INTO THIS SERIOUS AND EXPENSIVE DEFECT WE NOTED THAT THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF ACCORD VEHICLE OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FLAW. THE PART WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH, BROKEN IN SEVERAL PLACES, AND WOULD HAVE EVENTUALLY CAUSED A STEERING PROBLEM, ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE PART. *TR
