2000 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED ON AUGUST 5, 2010, HE SPENT $2488.77 TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. HE RECENTLY BEGAN EXPERIENCING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AGAIN. IT WAS THEN, HE DECIDED TO DO SOME RESEARCH, AND DISCOVERED THERE WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION STARTING WITH MODEL YEARS 2000-2003. THE CONSUMER WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT, DUE TO THE FACT THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. HONDA STATED THEY DID NOT WHY THE CONSUMER WAS NEVER INFORMED OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.*JB
1. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE: 133K MILES ON 2000 HONDA ACCORD, 4 DOOR, LX 4CYL, 5 SPD MANUAL TRANS. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER, PURCHASED IN NOV OF 1999. CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN DAILY 15-30 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS. REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED. THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. 2. THE FAILURE, HOW OFTEN IT OCCURS, IT'S CONSEQUENCES: ON 8/3/10, STARTED TO DRIVE TO WORK. AFTER 2 MILES, I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ACCELERATED. WHEN I WENT TO SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, THE ENGINE OVER-REVVED - UP TO THE REV LIMITER, EVEN THOUGH I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR IN ORDER TO SHIFT. I COASTED WITH THE CLUTCH DEPRESSED WHILE THE ENGINE "BOUNCED" OFF THE REV LIMITER FOR A SECOND. THEN I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I COULD NOT "UN-STICK" THE THROTTLE -WHICH WAS STUCK IN WOT (WIDE OPEN THROTTLE) POSITION. 3. WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE)? I TRIED TO LIFT THE THROTTLE OFF THE FLOOR, IT WAS STUCK. I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT, WHICH MADE NO DIFFERENCE. I THEN OPENED THE HOOD. I COULD SEE THE THROTTLE CABLES WERE SLACK AND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK. THE PART OF THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH HOLDS THE CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD BROKEN. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CABLE (NO LONGER HELD IN PLACE) FLOPPED FORWARD AND JAMMED THE THROTTLE OPEN. UNTANGLING THE JAMMED THROTTLE BODY, AND SECURING THE CRUISE CONTROL THROTTLE CABLE TO A LOCATION WHERE IT COULD NOT COME LOOSE, ALLOWED THE THROTTLE BODY TO WORK AGAIN. USED THROTTLE BODIES ARE AVAILABLE - $135 +/-. NEW THROTTLE BODIES ARE AVAILABLE $400 APPROX. LABOR IS 1-2 HOURS TO REPLACE. VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. EASY FOR ME TO REPEAT THIS. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THIS YET. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP - THEY WANTED TO SEE IT. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC, HE VERIFIED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY BROKE (FAILED) IN A TROUBLING WAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT WAS PARKED WHEN SHE DISCOVERED SHE WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION WITHOUT THE VEHICLE BEING IN PARK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V025000, COMPONENT: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: IGNITION: SWITCH) BUT WAS ADVISED BY BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 249,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE WINDSHIELD HAD BEGUN TO PIT CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL GLARE FROM THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED WAS DIFFICULT TO SEE DURING THE NIGHT DUE TO THE GLARE OF HEADLIGHTS OR DURING THE DAY WITH THE GLARE OF THE SUN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
2000 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE DEFECTIVE TIRES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH REAR TIRES WERE FOUND TO HAVE SEPARATED BELTS DURING A TIRE ROTATION. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS HIS 3RD SET OF TIRES, HE HAD TO PURCHASE. *JB
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2000 HONDA ACCORD AND HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION FOR THE 4TH TIME. FIRST TIME @ 60,000 MILES, THAN 80,000 MILES, THAN 140,000 MILES. HONDA SUCKS... ALL THEY TELL ME NOW IS IT'S OUT OF WARRANTY. OBVIOUSLY THE 2000 ACCORDS HAVE MAJOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *TR
THE THIRD TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED ON MY HONDA ACCORD. HONDA REPLACED THE FIRST 2 WITH ONLY A $200 CHARGE ON THE SECOND ONE. THE FAILURE MODE IS SUCH THAT THE CAR SLIPS INTO A NEUTRAL LIKE STATE WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THINK ABOUT TURNING LEFT, CROSSING ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND YOU STEP ON THE GAS, THE CAR STARTS TO MOVE AND GOES INTO NEUTRAL. YOU ARE STUCK IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. *TR
I'D DRIVE DOWN THE FREEWAY OR UP A HILL TO GET TO A PARKING STRUCTURE AT SCHOOL AND THE CAR WOULD STALL AND SLIP GEARS WHERE I THOUGHT IT WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS OR PEOPLE BEHIND ME WOULD GET ANNOYED AND PASS AT RELATIVELY CLOSE AND HIGH SPEEDS. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK ONE NIGHT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY WENT OUT ON ME ROUGHLY 2 BLOCKS AWAY FROM MY HOUSE. I BARELY COULD MAKE IT OVER 10 MPH AND HAD MY CAR SIT IN THE PARKING LOT FOR 6 MONTHS. MY BROTHER HAS PUT IN A NEW BATTERY AND SUGGESTED I PUT NEW TRANSMISSION FLUID IN, BUT THE FLUID IS FULL AND THE CAR STILL SLIPS. I KNEW IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM WHICH IS MORE COMPLICATED SINCE I KNOW THAT'S A LOT MORE PRICEY THAN WHAT I CAN AFFORD RIGHT NOW, AND ALL I WANT IS FOR MY CAR TO BE IN WORKING ORDER AGAIN SINCE THIS CAR SHOULD LAST A LOT LONGER SINCE IT'S BEEN TAKEN CARE OF. *TR
THE SERVICE MANAGER FOR CONCORD HONDA IN 2007 RECOMMENDED THAT I FIX A BROKEN WELD ON THE DRIVER SEAT FRAME BY HAVING IT RE-WELDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I HAD ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER TO TAKE IT TO HONDA OF AMERICA TO HAVE THE SEAT REPLACED EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD BECAUSE THE WELD SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED WITHIN A SIX YEAR TIME PERIOD. THE WELD ON THE SEAT HAS BROKEN AGAIN AND THE CURRENT SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE REPAIR BOTH BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAS PASSED FOR A REPAIR, BUT ALSO HE WOULD NOT REPAIR THE SEAT BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL SERVICE MANAGER SHOULD NOT HAVE RE-WELDED THE FRAME AS IT WOULD NOT BE SAFE TO DO SO. I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA TO TALK TO THEM THIS TIME AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM IN THE 2006/2007 TIME FRAME, BUT THAT THE CAR WAS NOW TO OLD NOW FOR THEM TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. WHAT IS BOTHERING ME IS THAT THEY ADMIT THE SEATS WILL NOT STAY FIXED TO THE FRAME IN AN ACCIDENT. NOR DO THEY SEEM TO CARE ABOUT EARLY FAILURE OF THE WELDS AND THEM NOT HOLDING. I HAVE HAD A CAR THAT WAS 35 YEARS OLD AND THE WELDS WERE STILL IN PLACE. THANK YOU *TR
TREAD ON LEFT FRONT TIRE SEPARATED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT ABOUT 60 MPH. TREAD DID NOT COME COMPLETELY OFF AND IT DAMAGED TIRE WELL AND BUMPER. *TR
FAILURE OF OPDS UNIT ON MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD 4-DOOR V-6. AS AN OUTCOME OF A JOINT ACTION LAWSUIT HONDA AGREED TO EXTEND THE OPDS WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS FROM THE DELIVERY DATE OF THE VEHICLE OR 156,000 MILES. MY OPDS UNIT HAS FAILED JUST 3 MONTHS AFTER THE 10 YEAR EXTENSION. THIS IS THE 2ND SDS SYSTEM FAILURE AS THE SEAT BELT SENSOR HAS FAILED IN THE PAST. HONDA NOW COVERS THE SEAT BELT FAILURE ON THE MANY ACCORD MODELS FOR LIFETIME AS THE FAILURE IS COMMON. FAILURE OF SDS AIRBAG SYSTEM ON HONDA ACCORDS AND OTHER HONDA VEHICLE MODELS IS AN ON-GOING CHRONIC PROBLEM THAT RENDERS THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM INACTIVE UPON ANY COMPONENT FAILURE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD TO OWNERS AND DUE TO THE HIGH COST TO REPAIR THE SDS SYSTEM MANY OWNERS CANNOT AFFORD TO MAKE THE SDS AIRBAG SYSTEM OPERATIVE AGAIN. HONDA MUST STEP UP TO INSURING THAT LIFETIME WARRANTIES ON THE SDS SYSTEMS ARE IN PLACE FOR ALL OWNERS AS AN SDS FAILURE MAY RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH FOR THE VEHICLE OWNERS. WAY TOO MANY SDS SYSTEM FAILURES HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED BY HONDA DEALERS AND OWNERS. WHO KNOWS JUST HOW MANY "RED LIGHTS" ARE ACTUALLY ON THE DASHBOARDS OF HONDA ACCORDS OUT THERE THAT SIMPLY DON'T GET FIXED DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF REPAIR? *TR
DASH LIGHT FOR RIGHT AIRBAG CAME ON AND AN ALARM WHILE DRIVING AND IS STILL ON.
TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING JUST OUTSIDE OF THE 100,000 EXTENDED WARRANTY HONDA DID BECAUSE OF MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NONE OF THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ARE ILLUMINATED. THE LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS NOT WORKING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THE DEALER STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN RECALL 04V256000 WAS RELATED TO THE INTERIOR LIGHTING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD COUPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON JUNE 2, 2010 WHILE SITTING AT A STOP SIGN, SHE NOTICED SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE STEERING MODULE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID BEGAN SPURTING FOLLOWED BY A SIZZLING SOUND. THE NOISE DISAPPEARED WHEN THE VEHICLE LIGHTS WERE TURNED OFF. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REFERRED HER TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE SHE WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIR EXPENSES. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 140,000.
DEAR NHTSA: I AM WRITING ABOUT MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD COUPE WHICH HAD AN ACCIDENT ON MAY 22ND, 2010. I WAS DRIVING IN DRY CONDITIONS ALONG I-85 NORTH IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, GEORGIA WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE SUDDENLY BLEW OUT CAUSING MY CAR TO FLIP AND ROLL OVER. WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE BLOWOUT. I LOST CONSCIOUSNESS BRIEFLY AND MY NECK WAS SEVERELY BROKEN. I HAD TO HAVE AN OPERATION AND WILL BE OUT OF WORK FOR AT LEAST THREE MONTHS. MY SON WAS INJURED BUT NOT AS SEVERELY AS ME, WITH MANY CUTS ON HIS FACE AND EAR. TWO OTHER OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MANY BRUISES AND CUTS ON ARMS, LEGS AND FACES. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THERE ARE TWO ISSUES THAT SEEM TO POINT TO DEFECTS IN THE CAR. THE FIRST IS THAT THE ROOF COLLAPSED SO MUCH THAT IT HIT MY HEAD AND ALMOST KILLED ME. THE SECOND ISSUE IS THAT NONE OF THE FOUR AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT WITH SO MUCH DAMAGE TO THE CAR AS IT ROLLED OVER AND CRUSHED THE ROOF, THAT THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR INVESTIGATING THIS CAR TO SEE IF FEDERAL GUIDELINES WERE VIOLATED. *TR

THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER OR LOCAL MECHANIC. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WITH A DELAY RESPONSE. THE RPMS ALSO BEGAN TO INCREASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHO STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD BE REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
I HAVE A HONDA ACCORD 2000 EX WITH 132000 MILES. 1. THE DASHBOARD LIGHT DOES NOT WORK SO I CANNOT SEE THE EQUIPMENT READING 2. THE SRS LIGHT ON AND STAYS ON AFTER THE JUMP START THE CAR. I CHECK THE ONLINE THERE ARE SO MANY OF THE HONDA ACCORD THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THIS SHOULD BE THE SAFETY ISSUE. HONDA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEM. *TR
I ALSO HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD LX WITH APPROX. 134,000 MILES AND THE SRS INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON. THE AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER REPORTED THAT THIS WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL PER MY VIN. EVEN A QUICK SEARCH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON DEFECT WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR. HONDA NEEDS TO ISSUE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I AM NOT ON THE RECALL LIST HOWEVER I CALLED HONDA AS THE SRS LIGHT REMAINS ON. AFTER SPEAKING TO 4 REPRESENTATIVES AT HONDA THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER RESPONDED TO A RECALL IN 2006 SERVICE BULLETIN RECALL 06-009 - CODE OPDS WHICH IS FOR FAULTY AIRBAGS AND SEATBELTS. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD REPAIR DONE ACCORDING TO HONDA 3/31/2010 - 10 YEAR WARRANTY. I BOUGHT THIS CAR AT 89000 ODOMETER ON 10/11/2012. APPROX. 6 MONTHS AGO THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON. I CONTACTED HONDA WITH NO ASSISTANCE AS THEY SAID THERE IS A 10 YEAR WARRANTY ON THIS RECALL. YESTERDAY I STARTED BY GETTING ASSISTANCE FROM EMILY, BRIANA, NICOLE AND ALEXIS AT HONDA - CASE NO. N012015-05-2002159 AND TO EXPECT A CALL FROM HONDA. YESTERDAY AFTERNOON JAMES (NO ID OR LAST NAME) REGIONAL CASE MANAGER. HE INFORMED ME THAT HE COULD NOT ASSIST ME. 1. I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER. 2. I AM NOT A LOYAL HONDA OWNER AS I HAVE NOT BOUGHT ANOTHER HONDA. 3. NO REPAIRS THROUGH HONDA. 4. THE CAR IS OVER 10 YEARS OLD. I INFORMED HIM TO CHECK ANOTHER RECALL WHICH SUPERCEDES THE PREVIOUS RECALL AND DATED 3/14/2006. HE INFORMED ME TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE AT MY EXPENSE AT HONDA AND THE CASE IS CLOSED. I TOLD HIM THAT THIS WAS A FAULT WITH HONDA AND IT IS NOT 10 YEARS SINCE THE RECALL AND I FEAR DRIVING MY ONLY CAR WITH AN ENORMOUS PROBLEM IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT - SEAT BELTS AND AIRBAGS AND AN ENORMOUS DANGER TO ME AND MY GRANDCHILDREN. HE INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT HIS OR HONDA'S RESPONSIBILITY. PLEASE HELP ME. I NEED HONDA TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.
SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IF INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON OUR 2000 HONDA ACCORD WITH 67K MILES ON IT. WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED FOR THIS ISSUE TO 10 YEARS OR 150K MILES, OURS IS NOW TEN YEARS OLD. WE FEEL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THAT HONDA SHOULD COVER THIS FOR THE LIFETIME OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE BUY VEHICLES WITH ALL THE AIRBAGS...SAFETY! THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED HIM TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD SRS LIGHT IS ON, NO ANY ACCIDENT WAS INVOLVED. THE LIGHT KEEPS ON EVEN AFTER RESET SEVERAL TIMES. I WONDER IF THE MANUFACTURER COVERS THE COST OF REPLACEMENT FOR VEHICLE SAFETY. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED DESPITE THE CAR HAVING THE FACTORY RECOMMENDED SERVICE FOR THE TRANSMISSION BEING PERFORMED AT 60K. AT THE TIME THE CAR WAS MAKING A LEFT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. UPON INVESTIGATING IT WAS FOUND THE CAR WAS PART OF A CLASS ACTION DUE TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE, BUT I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD. *TR

2000 HONDA ACCORD R GEAR SHIFT HANDLE (KNOB) BECAME DETACHED FROM POLE WHEN TRYING TO MOVE THE GEAR FROM PARK. *TR

DURING A NORMAL DRIVE AND THEN A STOP AT A RED LIGHT, CAR'S ENGINE STALLS. AFTER AUTO SHOP EXAMINATION, THE CONCLUSION WAS THAT THE BALL BEARING IN THE ENGINE'S TENSIONER LOCKED UP, THUS THROWING THE TIMING BELT OFF AND BENDING VALVES DUE TO INCORRECT TIMING. AUGUST OF 2009, 155K MILES, TOOK CAR INTO HONDA DEALER FOR SERVICE AND TO ISOLATE SCRAPPING NOISE, DEALER UNABLE TO DETERMINE SOURCE. ON FEB 18, 2010 TOOK CAR BACK TO HONDA DEALER AND NOISE WAS ISOLATED TO 'TRANSMISSION FINAL DRIVE, ALOT OF PLAY IN CARRIER BEARINGS'. REMEDY ACCORDING TO SERVICE MANAGER IS TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $2700 + TAX. OPENED CASE NUMBER WITH HONDA CORP ON 02/18/10 ASKING ASSISTANCE IN COST OF REPLACING TRANSMISSION. HONDA REPRESENTATIVE DENIED ASSISTANCE ON 02/24/10. THE CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED BY HONDA DEALER AND IS IN GOOD MECHANICAL SHAPE OTHER THAN TRANSMISSION. HE FELT AS IF "SOMETHING GAVE WAY" AND THE PEDAL SUDDENLY BECAME STUCK. HE USED HIS HAND TO PLACE THE PEDAL IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION AND HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. HE HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO-DATE. WHEN HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER THEY INSTRUCTED HIM TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 121,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,000.
FOR NO APPARENT REASON AT ALL (NO MOISTURE PROBLEM; NO CELL PHONE, COMPUTER, ETC. USE; NO DISCONNECTING ANYTHING AT ALL, MUCH LESS RELATED TO SEAT BELTS, PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY, SEAT REMOVAL, ETC.) THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS REMAINED ON FOR MANY MONTHS. GOOGLE SHOWS THIS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM, WHICH HAS TRIGGERED A VERY WIDE RANGE OF RESPONSES FROM HONDA. THIS HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL CAR GIVEN TIMELY COMPLETION OF ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. BUT THE SRS LIGHT PROBLEM, SINCE IT INVOLVES THE SAFETY RESTRAINING SYSTEMS, SHOULD BE GUARANTEED FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. BUT, GIVEN THE VARIOUS WAYS PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE HAVE BEEN TREATED, I AM RELUCTANT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO HONDA. IT MAY ONLY REQUIRE A RESET FOR THE LIGHT, WHICH SHOULD COST NOTHING. BUT CHARGES FOR A DIAGNOSIS ARE IN THE $70-100 RANGE. THEN, IF THERE IS ACTUALLY A PROBLEM WITH SAFETY, FIXES HAVE COST IN A RANGE OF $600-1500. THE WHOLE SITUATION IS ABSURD.
