On this vehicle, it is common knowledge that the V6 models have an issue related to the transmission (referred to as the automatic transaxle by Honda) where the system was not reworked to account for the extra torque put out by the more powerful V6 engine causing it to strip and shred portions of the gearing causing gear slippage, rough idling, and other similar issues usually occuring sometimes around or after the 80k mile mark. Upon finding out about this, I did some research and Honda's "solution" offered was that transmissions could be swapped for rebuilt ones salvaged off of other vehicles brought in for similar issues but there have also been reports of these rebuilt transmissions beginning to fail after they reach an additional 80k miles proving the issue was not truly resolved. On top of this, a formal recall was never made, owners were not made aware of this, and the offer was only made available to those who brought their vehicles in for this issues within a certain number of years and certain of mileage after their purchase which is very unsafe, anti-consumer, and shows a lack of care and responsibility on their part especially since this issue affects not only V6 Accord models, but also affects Ridgeline, Odyssey, and CR-V models that use the same engine and transmission combo. It should also be noted that, due to the lack of notice or action regarding this issue on the manufacturer's part, it has never been resolved on my model as the prior owners never knew of this issue when they bought the car new but the Honda owned dealership was happy enough to quote me a $1406 repair the last time I inquired about this issue.
I had this car for a few weeks with 120K miles on it and the transmission died on me while driving and almost got hit with a big rig. Lucky the big rig has enough distance to slam that break. This car needs attention and recall with the transmission. Been reading a lot of faulty transmission for this model and no recall. Not sure if a crash or fatality will occur first before they will initiate a recall. Honda is a reliable company but has this many complaints and no recall has been initiated.
MY AIR BAGS ARE TAKITA AND NEEDS REPLACED I CAN LEAVE MY CAR IN ANY GEAR BUT PARK AND IT DRIFTS AWAY I HAVE REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION 2X WITH ONLY150K MILES
I HAVE BEEN FAMILIAR WITH THIS CAR AND MANY OTHER SIMILAR HONDA'S OF THIS YEAR AND EVERY SINGLE ONE INCLUDING THE LOWER MILE ONES HAVE NEEDED A TRANSMISSION REBUILD OR REPLACEMENT. THE J30 TRANSMISSION IS INEPT TO DO ITS JOB AND THE STRAIN ON IT FROM THE V6 VTEC RENDERS IT USELESS QUICKLY. MUCH LIKE THE HONDA ODYSSEY IF SIMILAR YEARS THIS TRANSMISSION IS NO GOOD AND NEEDS A RECALL. THIS CAR WAS MOVING ON THE HIGHWAY ON ITS WAY BACK FROM THE CITY WHEN IT WENT OUT, STRAIGHT LINE. *TR
THE KEY WON'T COME OUT IGNITION. AND TRANSMISSION IS FAILING. . THE GEAR LIGHTS BLIMK. IT THROWS CAR INTO AN ALMOST STANDSTILL WHILE DRIVING. GEARS SLIP. IT'S VERY DANGEROUS.
THE INTERLOCK OPERATION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO THE "OFF" POSITION AND REMOVE THE KEY WITHOUT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION TO PARK.

TRANSMISSION FAILED ON 2000 HONDA ACCORD V-6 AT 105,000 MILES. VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET, RIGHT OFF HIGHWAY EXIT, IN AN AREA WITH HIGH TRAFFIC.
AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE IN "REVERSE" TO GET INTO A STALL PARKING SPACE ON THE STREET, IT WAS SHIFTED INTO "DRIVE". WHILE BEING IN "DRIVE" AND TAPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE VEHICLE WENT IN "REVERSE" UNCONTROLLABLY. THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. IN AN ATTEMPT TO AVOID REVERSING INTO A WALL, THE VEHICLE TURNED AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THE IMPACT POTENTIALLY INJURED A WOMEN THAT WAS STANDING BEHIND THE IMPACTED VEHICLE TALKING WITH SOMEONE.

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. AT LESS THAN 70,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX IS FAILING, EVEN THOUGH THE CAR HAS BARLEY BEEN DRIVEN. I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE DELAYED GEAR ENGAGEMENT, BOTH ON UP SHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS AS WELL AS TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKAGE WHICH WAS INITIALLY DIAGNOSED AS A BAD LEFT SIDE AXLE SEAL. WHEN THE MECHANIC PROCEEDED TO FIX THE AXLE SEAL, HE THEN RE DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS BAD BEARINGS AND A FAULTY TRANSMISSION, A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2000 & 2001 ACCORDS. SINCE THEN I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS AND TRANSMISSION SPECIALISTS FOR A SECOND OPINION, WHO HAVE REACHED THE VERY SAME CONCLUSION/DIAGNOSIS. A VAST MAJORITY OF THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2000 AND 2001 ACCORDS HAVE FAILED OR ARE HAVING PROBLEMS. THE SCARY PART IS ALL THE TRANSMISSION SHOPS ARE FAMILIAR WITH THIS ISSUE, SOME OF THEM SEE AN ACCORD OR AN ODYSSEY (SIMILAR PROBLEM) ONCE A WEEK! FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE/INVESTIGATION THE COMMON CONSENSUS IS; THE HONDA TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE LATE 90'S WERE BULLETPROOF BECAUSE THEY WERE SPECIFICALLY BUILT FOR THE CARS FROM THE 90'S. HOWEVER, WHEN HONDA UPGRADED THE SIZE OF THEIR ENGINES AND POWER, HONDA USED THE SAME 90'S TRANSMISSIONS, WHICH IN THE LONG RUN COULD NO LONGER HANDLE THE LARGER ENGINE CAPACITY OR THE EXTRA POWER AND EVENTUALLY FAIL. IN 2006 HONDA WAS HIT WITH A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FOR THE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. HONDA SETTLED THE MATTER OUT OF COURT BY EXTENDING THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY TO 93 MONTHS OR 109,000 MILES. HOWEVER, HONDA NEVER CORRECTED THE PROBLEM BY REDESIGNING THE TRANSMISSIONS OR PROVIDED A FIX. INSTEAD, HONDA SIMPLY REPLACED THE OLD FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS WITH NEW TRANSMISSIONS THAT STILL HAD THE SAME FAULTY DESIGN. NOW, ALL THE TRANSMISSION IN THOSE CARS ARE FAILING AS WELL AND HONDA DENIES ANY RESPONSIBILITY, CLAIMING THE TRANSMISSIONS ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR

I RECENTLY TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA WITH PROBLEMS ACCELERATING UP A HILL AND SOMETIME ON FLAT LAND AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AT A COST OF $4300. I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH A SERVICE MANAGER BECAUSE I ONLY TAKE MY CAR TO HONDA TO BE SERVICED AND NOW ALL OF A SUNDEN I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. WELL THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THE TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 WERE BAD. THIS PROMPTED ME TO GO ONLINE AND DO RESEARCH, AND THERE WERE A WHOLE LOT OF COMPLAINTS. THESE COMPLAINTS STATED A LOT OF ISSUES I HAD WITH MY CAR WHEN I FIRST GOT IT SPECIFICALLY I COULDNT GET MY CAR TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR FROM PARK. MY CAR BROKE DOWN ON ME SO MUCH IN THE EARLIER YEARS IT WAS RIDICULOUS. SO I CALLED HONDA TO NO AVAIL SINCE I FELT MY ISSUES WERE COVERED UP WHEN I HAD A WARRANTY WITH THEM. THEY SAID THEY COULDNT HELP ME IM AT 116,000 MILES AND THEY EXTENDED THE MILEAGE TO 109,000 ON THEIR TRANSMISSIONS. I WOULD SAY THAT THIS IS BAD BUSINESS FOR HONDA. THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE A RECALL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND WOULDN'T GO OFF. CAR WAS STRUGGLING TO AUTOMATICALLY SHIFT INTO GEAR. WHEN IT GOT REALLY HOT, CAR WOULD NOT START UP RIGHT AWAY. WOULD TAKE SEVERAL TIMES OF HAVING ONE FOOT ON BRAKE AND ONE FOOT ON GAS TO GET IT TO START AGAIN.TRANSMISSION IS ACTING LIKE IT IS SLIPPING. JUST BOUGHT THIS USED CAR LAST YEAR. LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP, DON WESSEL, OF SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI ACTED LIKE EVERYTHING WAS FINE WITH THE CAR WHEN WE BOUGHT IT. TOOK IT IN THERE THEY GOT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO OFF BUT THEN IT CAME BACK ON A FEW DAYS LATER. TRIED TO GET THEM TO FIX IT BUT THEY WOULDN'T. TOOK IT TO ANOTHER PLACE THEY, HOOKED IT UP TO THE COMPUTER AND SAID THAT ALL CYLINDERS WERE MISFIRING, AND THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION. TRYING TO FIND A PLACE TO FIX THE TRANSMISSION. WE THINK DEALERSHIP SHOULD FIX IT SINCE WE BOUGHT IT THERE AND THEY DID NOT THINK ANYTHING WAS WRONG EVEN AFTER WE BROUGHT IT BACK AND TOLD THEM THAT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON AND CAR IS STILL ACTING UP. *TR
ON MAY 29, 2014 OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR CAR AND HAD JUST DROPPED A FRIEND OFF AT THE BUS STATION, AFTER THE FRIEND GOT OUT OF THE CAR, SHE PULLS OFF AND GOES AROUND A CORNER AND THE CAR ACCELERATES AND JUMPS A CURB, UPROOTS A TREE, HITS A PARKED CAR, WHICH CRASHES INTO ANOTHER PARKED CAR. OUR CAR WAS TOTALED. I THINK THE OTHER CAR WAS TOTALED AND THE OTHER CAR HAD MODERATE DAMAGE. OUR DAUGHTER HAD A GASH IN HER ARM AND A LOT OF BUMPS AND BRUISES. MY DAUGHTER IS SCARED TO DEATH TO DRIVE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HONDA FIX THIS PROBLEM, THIS IS NOT THE FIRST INCIDENT, NOR WILL IT BE THE LAST. *TR
