I WAS APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT LOW SPEED THROUGH A PARKING LOT , MADE A TURN TO PARK REVERSE, FOOT ON BRAKE PUT CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK UP, PUT FOOT LIGHTLY ON GAS PEDAL AND IT GAIN SPEED AND LURCHED FORWARD INSTEAD, OVER A CURB, UP AN SLIGHT INCLINE AND HIT LIBRARY WALL, AND STOPPED. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I AM SORE, IT WAS TOWED AND I PAY TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC TO LOOK AT NEXT WEEK.

I WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AT A SPEED OF ABOUT 35 MPH DRIVING MY HONDA ACCORD 2000 V6 ON JULY 13, 2013 APPROXIMATELY @ 2.00 PM EST. I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN INCREASING THE SPEED TO APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. SHOCKED BY THE RANDOM ACCELERATION, I APPLIED BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER STOMPING ON THE PEDAL IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK . THEREFORE IN ORDER TO AVOID GOING TOWARDS THE TRAFFIC I DECIDED TO DRIVE INTO THE WOODS ON TO MY RIGHT SIDE. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP INSIDE A WOODED AREA 45 YARDS FROM THE EDGE OF THE RIGHT LANE KNOCKING OFF ALL THE TREES ON ITS WAY. IT DEPLOYED BOTH AIRBAGS IN THE FRONT. THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY DAMAGED ( TOTALED). THERE WAS NO INJURIES TO ME OR ANY OTHERS IN THIS CRASH. I FIRMLY BELIEVE & SUSPECT THERE WAS SOME MALFUNCTION IN THE VEHICLE'S SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM THAT RESULTED IN THIS MISHAP. I WAS TRAVELING IN REVERSE FOR APPROXIMATELY 50 YARDS AT A SPEED OF UNDER 5 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. MY PASSENGER WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AS I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE. 1. THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE: 133K MILES ON 2000 HONDA ACCORD, 4 DOOR, LX 4CYL, 5 SPD MANUAL TRANS. I'M THE ORIGINAL OWNER, PURCHASED IN NOV OF 1999. CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN DAILY 15-30 MILES WITH NO PROBLEMS. REGULAR MAINTENANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED. THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. 2. THE FAILURE, HOW OFTEN IT OCCURS, IT'S CONSEQUENCES: ON 8/3/10, STARTED TO DRIVE TO WORK. AFTER 2 MILES, I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ACCELERATED. WHEN I WENT TO SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, THE ENGINE OVER-REVVED - UP TO THE REV LIMITER, EVEN THOUGH I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR IN ORDER TO SHIFT. I COASTED WITH THE CLUTCH DEPRESSED WHILE THE ENGINE "BOUNCED" OFF THE REV LIMITER FOR A SECOND. THEN I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I COULD NOT "UN-STICK" THE THROTTLE -WHICH WAS STUCK IN WOT (WIDE OPEN THROTTLE) POSITION. 3. WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE)? I TRIED TO LIFT THE THROTTLE OFF THE FLOOR, IT WAS STUCK. I REMOVED THE FLOOR MAT, WHICH MADE NO DIFFERENCE. I THEN OPENED THE HOOD. I COULD SEE THE THROTTLE CABLES WERE SLACK AND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK. THE PART OF THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH HOLDS THE CRUISE CONTROL ACCELERATOR CABLE HAD BROKEN. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CABLE (NO LONGER HELD IN PLACE) FLOPPED FORWARD AND JAMMED THE THROTTLE OPEN. UNTANGLING THE JAMMED THROTTLE BODY, AND SECURING THE CRUISE CONTROL THROTTLE CABLE TO A LOCATION WHERE IT COULD NOT COME LOOSE, ALLOWED THE THROTTLE BODY TO WORK AGAIN. USED THROTTLE BODIES ARE AVAILABLE - $135 +/-. NEW THROTTLE BODIES ARE AVAILABLE $400 APPROX. LABOR IS 1-2 HOURS TO REPLACE. VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION. EASY FOR ME TO REPEAT THIS. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THIS YET. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP - THEY WANTED TO SEE IT. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC, HE VERIFIED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY BROKE (FAILED) IN A TROUBLING WAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT NOTICED RESISTANCE IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SO HE APPLIED MORE PRESSURE TO IT. HE FELT AS IF "SOMETHING GAVE WAY" AND THE PEDAL SUDDENLY BECAME STUCK. HE USED HIS HAND TO PLACE THE PEDAL IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION AND HAD NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. HE HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP TO-DATE. WHEN HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER THEY INSTRUCTED HIM TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 121,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,000.
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD WITH AROUND 117,000 MILES AND HAVE HAD ISSUES OF THE ACCELERATOR STICKING FOR AT LEAST A YEAR BUT NEVER THOUGHT TOO MUCH OFF IT UNTIL YESTERDAY WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT IN A PARKING GARAGE. AS I WAS PULLING IN MY GAS PEDAL STUCK AND JERKED MY CAR FORWARD INTO A CEMENT WALL. I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP. THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT THREW MY CAR INTO NEUTRAL FROM DRIVE, MY STEREO IS NOW SUNKEN INTO MY DASHBOARD, I HIT MY HEAD ON THE ROOF OF MY CAR AND MY KNEE WENT INTO THE DASHBOARD. (THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY WHICH IS ALSO A LITTLE CONCERNING WITH HOW MUCH DAMAGE THERE IS TO MY CAR) MY FRONT BUMPER IS SCRATCHED AND CRACKED AND IT HAS SEPARATED FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE PANEL. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THE CONTACT INCURRED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WILL NEED STRUCTURAL REPAIRS AND AIR BAG REPLACEMENT.
