TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN ACCELERATING VERY FAST OVERHEATING, SLIPPING, IT APPEARS THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAVE BEEN LEAKING HOWEVER I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. MY DEALERSHIP FROM FEBRUARY 13, 2012 SEPTEMBER 28, 2012 COMMONWEALTH HONDA HAS BEEN CLAIMING THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS TRANSMISSION THE SUSPENSION OR THE TIMING BELT. THEY PERFORMED SERVICE AND ALL OF THEM THEY CLAIM EVERYTHING IS FINE. NOW LESS THAN 30 DAYS LATER MY TRANSMISSION IS BROKEN. A VEHICLE WITH JUST GOT PROBLEMS SHOULD NOT CONTINUE TO BE RESOLD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH, THE RADIO LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE FUSE IN THE CIRCUIT BOARD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,502 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,705.
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON THE I-15 APPROACHING VICTORVILLE, CA. THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PREVENT GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND. THE CAR STALLED ONCE I GOT IT STOPPED AND THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION CAME ON. THE TRANSMISSION HAD APPARENTLY OVERHEATED AND SPEWED ALL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OUT ONTO THE ROAD. I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO VICTORVILLE HONDA. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS TOO LATE IN THE DAY TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE AND DROVE ME TO A CAR RENTAL PLACE WHERE I RENTED A CAR AT MY OWN COST. THE NEXT MORNING THEY CALLED AND INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND THE COST WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $6000 FOR THEM TO REPLACE IT. I WAS DRIVING FROM CALIFORNIA TO OHIO AND COULD NOT AFFORD THE COST. I HAD THEM FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION AND REFILL IT AND CONTINUED ON MY TRIP. APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH LATER THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED AND I HAD IT REPLACED AT A LOCAL SHOP. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ALTHOUGH SHE REPLENISHED THE POWER STEERING FLUID THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A LEAK IN THE POWER STEERING HOSE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V222000 (STEERING:HYDRAULIC POWER ASSIST:HOSE, PIPING, AND CONNECTIONS). THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO VERIFIED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V001000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE) THAT COULD HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.

MY CAR STARTED BUCKING ABOUT TWO WEEKS AFTER I HAD IT INSPECTED IN JULY. ALSO THE DRIVE LIGHT WAS BLINKING AND THE CHECK MAINTENANCE LIGHT CAME ON. AT ONE POINT I WAS ALONE AND FAR FROM HOME AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. I CONTACTED A MECHANIC I KNOW WELL WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT I SHOULD TRY TO DRIVE THE CAR TO THE TRANSMISSION PLACE HE RECOMMENDED. FOR SEVERAL MILES THE CAR BUCKED AND I WASN'T SURE WHETHER I WOULD GET THERE OR NOT, BUT I DID. VERY SCARY. NOT SURE THIS SURE HAPPEN WITH A CAR THAT ONLY HAS 76,500 MILES ON IT AND I AM THE ONLY OWNER. *TR

MY POWER STEERING HOSE (WHICH IS CONSTRUCTED OF THE SAME MATERIALS AND ROUTED IN THE SAME MANNER AS THE ACURA TL) BEGAN LEAKING FLUID ONTO MY CATALYTIC CONVERTER AT THE REAR OF THE ENGINE AND A GREAT DEAL OF SMOKE BILLOWED FROM THE HOOD. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE HOSE OUT OF IT'S DESIGN POSITION AND AWAY FROM THE EXHAUST AND DRIVE HOME. THIS ENGINE IS IDENTICAL EXTERNALLY TO THE ENGINE IN TL. THE HOSE ROUTING AND MATERIALS ARE THE SAME AS WELL. THE TL RL TSX HAVE BEEN RECALLED, WHY HASN'T MY ACCORD V6? *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AND WAS GRADUALLY HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY ACCORD V6 ENGINE SHIFTING INTO THIRD GEAR. RPMS WOULD GO UP, BUT NO ADDITIONAL POWER. FINALLY TRANSMISSION TOTALLY FAILED. HONDA REPORTED TO ME THAT THE ERROR CODE INDICATED AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THEY ONLY GAVE ME $1300 TOWARDS THE $4400 COST OF THE TRANSMISSION. THEY HAD NO RESPONSE TO MY COMMENT THAT I NOTED OTHER FAILURES OF THE TRANSMISSION POSTED IN THIS DATABASE AND ELSEWHERE ON THE WEB. *TR
THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING, SO I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE HOSE WAS CRACKED AND DETERIORATING AND CAUSE OF THE LEAK LEADS BACK TO THE RACK AND PINION WHICH WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I SUBSEQUENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM HONDA, BUT PARTS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR REPAIR UNTIL EARLY 2013. *TR
THE VEHICLE STOPPED DEAD FOR ME ON A ROAD. FORTUNATELY I WAS NOT ON A HIGHWAY (I WAS ON A 30-MILE/HOUR ROAD) BECAUSE I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED AND I WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD OR ,WORSE, CAUSED SOMEONE ELSE TO BE INJURED. I CALLED THE TOWING SERVICE AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. THE CAR AT PRESENT IS WORTHLESS. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FORM HONDA. I CAN ONLY GUESS THAT I HAD MOVED FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE. HOWEVER, MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP IN SYRACUSE,NY NEVER (OVER 8 YEARS OF SERVICE AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP) NOTIFIED ME OF A POTENTIAL ISSUE OR RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM SINCE THE CAR JUST STALLED ON THE ROAD AND DIED. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HONDA AND THEIR LACK OF NOTIFYING OWNERS OF THE POTENTIAL SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V176000, (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT DID NOT RESPOND. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,406.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING DURING THE EVENING, HE WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL. THE CLIMATE CONTROL PANEL FAILED WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO DEALER OR REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 170,000.
I HAD BEEN DRIVING 10 MIN. (70MPH) ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I WENT TO PASS ANOTHER MOTORIST AS SOON AS I TURNED ON MY BLINKER THE CAR STARTED TO SHUTDOWN. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I DISCOVERED THAT WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE CAR WOULD ALSO MAKE AN SUDDEN JERK AND BEGIN TO SHUTDOWN. THE CAR WOULD DRIVE COMPLETELY NORMAL AS LONG AS YOU DID NOT ACTIVATE EITHER THE BLINKERS OR THE BRAKES. I TRIED SEVERAL OTHER ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES AND NONE OF THEM SEEMED TO EFFECT THE CAR. AFTER DRIVING FOR SEVERAL HOURS WE EXITED THE INTERSTATE AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AFTER ENGAGING THE BRAKE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS THE CAR DIED . WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED AND THE PROBLEM STOPPED. *TR

I DID THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ON MY HONDA ACCORD. I HAVE FOLLOWED ALL OF THE SPECIFICATIONS REGARDING OIL CHANGES, MAINTENANCE ON THE TRANSMISSION, TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT, ETC. UNFORTUNATELY, EVEN WITH THE ROUTINE MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON THIS CAR, MY TRANSMISSION FAILED ON A ROAD TRIP ON JULY 7, 2012. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 75 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY HONDA ACCORD WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ANYMORE. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL ACROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC IN ORDER TO GET TO THE SHOULDER. UNFORTUNATELY, THAT IS WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT MY TRANSMISSION FAILED AND I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST GARAGE. *TR
TODAY WAS JUST ANOTHER DAY TO WORK. I HAVE TAKEN THIS ROAD TO WORK FOR PAST TWO YEARS WITH ME DRIVING. FIRST YOU GET OFF THE RAMP, THEN STOP AT A STOP SIGN, THEN YOU PASS UNDER THE BRIDGE TO FOLLOW THE STRAIGHT ROAD TO WORK. HOWEVER, TODAY IT WAS DIFFERENT. I FIRST TOOK THE EXIT RAMP AND WENT TO THE END OF IT. STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN. CHECKED BOTH SIDES TO SEE IF IT WAS CLEAR FOR ME TO PROCEED AND GO AHEAD WITH MAKING A TURN. IT WAS CLEAR SO I MADE A LEFT TURN AND WENT STRAIGHT. HOWEVER, WITHIN NEXT 5 YARDS AFTER GOING STRAIGHT MY CAR'S STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO SHAKE AND CAR PULLED TO THE LEFT. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR SINCE ALL THIS HAPPENED SO FAST AND MY CAR HIT THE HUGE CEMENT POLE WHICH IS THE BASE OF THE BRIDGE. AFTER TALKING WITH MY HUSBAND AND MANY OTHERS, THEY BELIEVE THAT CAR HAS SOMEHOW MALFUNCTIONED. THE TWO THEORIES WE HAVE IS EITHER STEERING WHEEL GETTING LOCKED OR LEFT WHEEL GIVING OUT IN SOME MANNER. THIS WAS NOT A NEW ROAD FOR ME. I WAS NOT A PHONE. I WAS NOT TEXTING. I WAS NOT DISTRACTED IN ANYWAY. THE CAR JUST HAD ITS OWN MIND TODAY AND SOMEHOW IT PULLED TO THE LEFT. I DO NOT KNOW IF THERE ARE OTHERS WHO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT I WANTED TO TELL MY STORY SINCE I AM NOT HURT AS MUCH. IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE BEING FASTER, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. *TR
CLIMATE CONTROL DISPLAY AND LIGHTING GOES OUT(ALSO RADIO DISPLAY) WHICH MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN ON DEFOGGERS OR OTHER ITEMS AT NIGHT WHEN DRIVING WELL KNOWN DEFECT THAT SHOULD CAUSE A TOTAL RECALL. *TR
THE PASSENGER WINDOW BEGAN ROLLING UP AND STAYING UP ALL ON ITS OWN, AT ANYTIME IT WANTED. IT WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL WORKING ORDER AFTER I RESTARTED THE CAR. THEN ONE DAY- IT ROLLED DOWN, AND WOULD NOT WORK AGAIN. I FOUND OUT I COULD OVERRIDE WITH THE KEYS TO ROLL UP. BUT ID HAVE TO WINDOW LOCK TO STAY. THEN ONE DAY WE SMELL BURNING- WE TRACED IT TO THE DOOR- AND THE OVERRIDE NO LONGER WORKS. NOW THE DRIVER WINDOW IS BEGINNING TO DO THE SAME BEHAVIOR. SO FAR I'VE REPLACED DRIVER SWITCH= 325.00 --QUOTE FOR MOTOR= 400.00--I KNOW IT WILL NEED THE SWITCH TOO... THAT IS OVER 1000.00 JUST TO GET THE WINDOW UP??? THAT IS ABSURD! *TR
2004 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER STATES THE VEHICLE HAD CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED HE READ ON THE INTERNET, WHERE A RECALL WAS ISSUED, BUT HE NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE. *JB
THE DISPLAY FOR THE RADIO/AC IS VERY DIM. THE RADIO STILL WORKS BUT YOU CAN'T SEE THE DISPLAY. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. HONDA NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL AND FIX THIS ON ALL ACCORDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE GOING 40 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS JERKING FORWARD AND SHE PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE ANY TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE CONTACT ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE VEHICLE AND VEHICLE FUNCTIONED NORMALLY, BUT THE FAILURE LATER RECURRED. THE TRANSMISSION FAILED COMPLETELY AND THE CONTACT HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HER HOME. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY OUR HONDA ACCORD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION LOST POWER AND ACTED LIKE IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL. LUCKILY WE WERE ABLE TO LIMP TO THE GARAGE AS IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY OR WE WERE IN A POSITION WHICH YOU COULD NOT PULL OVER TO A SAFE LOCATION. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE TRANS IS A PROBLEM I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED AND FEEL THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT FAIL IN THIS WAY. I BELIEVE IT IS A DESIGN FLAW. I HOPE NO ONE IS INJURED WITH THESE FAILING TRANSMISSION AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL IF YOU DO AN INTERNET SEARCH. *TR
STARTED WITH HIGH PITCH WHINE, THEN IT TOOK A FEW SECONDS TO GO INTO GEAR, THEN SPUTTERING AND ULTIMATELY IT WOULD STOP ACCELERATING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. *JS
ON JUNE 9, 2012 MY NIGHTMARE RETURNED AND AGAIN IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION. I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR INTERSECTION IN QUEENS, NY WHEN I FELT A CHANGE IN THE SPEED OF THE CAR AND THE LOSS OF POWER (CAR NOT MOVING). BY THE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE TO NAVIGATE IT CLOSER TO A SAFER SPOT. I LATER HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC TO DIAGNOSIS THE PROBLEM AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. AGAIN, THIS WAS AN UNEXPECTED EXPENSE THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS EXTREMELY SLOW TO RESPOND BEFORE FAILING AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED A COMPLETE REBUILD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HAVING REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V222000 (STEERING), THE VEHICLE STARTED TO EXHIBIT A LOUD, UNUSUAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THEY HAD ALREADY PERFORMED THE REPAIRS SPECIFIED TO THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 91,000. *TR

I HAVE IMPECCABLE SERVICE RECORDS AND LOCAL DEALERSHIP (WHERE I BOUGHT CAR FROM) AGREED THAT I COULD NOT HAVE DONE ANY BETTER WITH MAINTENANCE--ALL OF WHICH WAS PERFORMED AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS AND TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE AND FAILURE WAS SUDDEN (COUPLE OF DAYS). MOST RECENT TRANSMISSION FLUSH WAS AT THE HONDA SUGGESTED MILEAGE. *TT

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,592 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 156,400.

FIRST, I CALLED APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO AND FILED A COMPLAINT OVER THE TELEPHONE. THE MAN I TALKED TO SAID HE WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH AN EMAIL TO ME, WHICH HE NEVER DID. HE ALSO SAID I WOULD RECEIVE SOMETHING BY MAIL, WHICH I NEVER DID. MY NAME IS [XXX] I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT COMPLAINT? IN SHORT: MY 2004 HONDA ACCORD'S TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 94K. HONDA SAID MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. WHO DID HONDA MAKE A DEAL WITH? I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE TRANS REBUILT. NOW GOING HIGH SPEEDS FOR LONG DISTANCES THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS UP, THE D LIGHT BLINKS, THE TRIANGLE COMES ON, THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. ONCE THE CAR COOLS DOWN MOST LIGHTS GO OFF AND AFTER 3 CYCLES, THE ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF. AUTO ZONE CAME UP WITH SOME P CODE THAT IT WAS A SENSOR. THE TRANS GUY REPLACED IT., I AM STILL GETTING DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND THIS TIME I LOST THE SPEEDOMETER. SOMEONE SAID THE TRANS IS OVERHEATING. BUT THEN WHY THE P CODE THAT IT IS A SENSOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEM? IF HONDA IS HAVING SUCH A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS WHY ISN'T THE HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION GETTING INVOLVED? WHY DOESN'T EVERYONE WRITE TO THEM AND MAKE A COMPLAINT? WHY AREN'T YOU GETTING INVOLVED WITH THIS ISSUE? HONDA PUT A BAD PRODUCT IN THEIR CARS AND THE CONSUMERS ARE SUFFERING. IN 1970S CHEVY PUT A SMALL TRANS IN A MID SIZE CAR WITH PLASTIC PARTS. AFTER 3 TRANSMISSIONS AND A TRIP TO COURT THE JUDGE ORDERED THEY PUT A BIGGER TRANS IN MY CAR. IS THIS THE SAME THING? THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH HONDA AND THEIR TRANSMISSIONS AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE CONSUMERS ARE GETTING THE RAW DEAL ON THIS? WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, MY CAR JUST SHUT OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. PRIOR TO THAT I WOULD HAVE GLITCHES (ON/OFF) WHILE LISTENING TO THE RADIO BUT THIS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I DIDN'T NOTICE THE PROBLEM BEFORE BUT IT JUST KEPT SHUTTING OFF EVEN THOUGH THE GAS TANK WAS FULL AND THE BATTERY IN IT IS NEW. I TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC BUT NOTHING CAME UP IN THEIR SENSOR. THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT ALL OF THE CONNECTIONS AND COULDN'T SENSE THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE. I KNOW THAT I DIDN'T BUY A NEW CAR BUT IT HAD A FULL INSPECTION. I'M WORRIED THAT ALTHOUGH IT PASSED IT'S SAFETY INSPECTION IF IT IS TRULY SAFE TO DRIVE SINCE IT KEEPS SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ESPECIALLY COMING TO STOPS. *TR

DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN THE V6 MODEL (85000 MILES) SEEMED TO SLIP INTO NEUTRAL, AND ANY APPLICATION OF GAS RED-LINED THE ENGINE. HAD TO DODGE THROUGH HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SLOWING DOWN TO 25 MPH BEFORE THE GEARS WOULD ENGAGE. AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY, THE SAME PROBLEM PERSISTED AT LOWER SPEEDS; COMPLETE GEAR SLIPPING. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED IN D OR D3. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT TURNED OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES, IT SEEMS TO NOW BE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, BUT THERE IS NO TELLING WHEN IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE TO DUE SUDDEN FAILURE OF A CRITICAL SYSTEM. HAD I BEEN LESS FORTUNATE ON THE HIGHWAY, I COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. ALSO, IF THIS HAPPENED WHILE TURNING THROUGH OR CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION, I WOULD HAVE BEEN BROADSIDED. MY WIFE HAD PARKED IN A PARKING SPACE WITH A VERY SLIGHT DOWNWARD SLOPE. THERE WAS ANOTHER SPACE AHEAD OF HER. SHE HAD BEEN DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN. THE CAR WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. WHEN SHE RETURNED ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER, THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT HARD. SHE STARTED THE ENGINE AND SHIFTED INTO REVERSE. THE CAR STARTED COASTING FORWARD. THE BRAKES REMAINED HARD AND DIDN'T STOP THE CAR. SHE STOPPED IT BY SHIFTING TO PARK, THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. SHE REPEATED THE ATTEMPT TO BACK OUT OF THE SPACE - SAME RESULT. NO ERROR MESSAGES APPEARED. SHE CALLED, AND I DROVE TO THE SCENE. THE RAIN HAD STOPPED. I FELT THE HARDNESS OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, ALTHOUGH IT FELT MORE LIKE A STIFF SPRING THAN A NON-POWER BRAKE PEDAL TO ME. I PUMPED THE SPRINGY PEDAL A FEW TIMES; IT DIDN'T CHANGE. I STARTED THE ENGINE, KEEPING MY FOOT LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE. WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED, THE STIFFNESS IMMEDIATELY DISAPPEARED, THE PEDAL FELT NORMAL, THE TRANSMISSION WORKED, AND THE CAR DROVE NORMALLY. I DIDN'T GET TO EXPERIENCE THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. LATER, I COULD FIND NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THE LINKAGE HAS ONLY A VERY SLIGHT AMOUNT OF PLAY, AS IT SHOULD. I DEPLETED THE VACUUM SUPPLY BY PUMPING THE BRAKES WITH THE ENGINE OFF. THE PEDAL FELT VERY HARD, UNLIKE THE SPRINGY FEEL IN THE PARKING LOT. I HAVE A PHD IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AND A LOT OF CAR REPAIR EXPERIENCE. THIS BACKGROUND LEADS ME TO CONCLUDE THAT IT IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY FOR THE UNRELATED BRAKING AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS TO FAIL SIMULTANEOUSLY, AND THEN RECOVER SIMULTANEOUSLY. THERE HAS TO BE ANOTHER COMMON CAUSE, WHICH LEADS ME TO SUSPECT THE COMPUTER SYSTEM OR POSSIBLY A SENSOR, PARTICULARLY BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED AFTER DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN. THE POSTULATED FAILURE MODE IS A COMPROMISED COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT COULD PARTIALLY ACTIVATE THE ABS SYSTEM AND ALSO FAIL TO OPERATE THE REVERSE SOLENOID VALVE IN THE TRANSMISSION.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. CAR WAS LURCHING AND JUMPING IN SPEED. ENGINE WAS RACING. ULTIMATELY, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR WAS LEFT WITHOUT PROPULSION IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY. THERE ARE 100+ SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND THE #1 MOST REPORTED PROBLEM ON THE HONDA ACCORD IS THE TRANSMISSION. THE '03 ACCORD IS THE #2 WORST CAR LISTED ON THE SIDE WITH 747 COMPLAINTS (#1 PROBLEM) ON THE TRANSMISSION. THE '04 IS #12 ALSO WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS BEING THE #1 COMPLAINT. WITH NO OTHER SIGNS OR WARNINGS, MY TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BUSY STREET. THE ENGINE REVS BUT THE CAR DOES NOT ENGAGE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE IT SEEMED TO STAY IN FIRST GEAR. AFTER LIMPING ALONG FOR A FEW MINUTES, ALL IT WOULD DO WAS REV. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AGAIN AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I STARTED IT UP AFTER A MINUTE OR TWO OF FREAKING OUT, AND IT SEEMED TO WORK NORMALLY AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE, THE SAME SYMPTOMS RETURNED. HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND WE DRAINED AND REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, WHICH WAS DARK. THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR ANOTHER FIFTEEN MINUTES, UNTIL IT FAILED AGAIN. NOW I AM LOOKING AT 2-3K REPAIR TO HAVE A HONDA ACCORD THAT WORKS. RADIO DISPLAY LIGHTS ARE OUT. THE PANEL IS COMPLETELY DARK. THE A/C-HEAT CONTROLS, CLOCK, RADIO ARE ALL DISPLAYED ON THIS PANEL. THIS WILL NOT LET ME LEAVE THE FAILED COMPONENTS IN THE BOX AND WON'T SEND THE MESSAGE....
