NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Honda Accord. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Vehicle steering jerked away from it's intended path and the screen also shut down for a bit. It feels dangerous to try and drive since it my run you into another lane.
ABS Module is defective. Dashboard lights corresponding to ABS and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems continuously turn on and off. A quick online search proves that this is a very common issue on Honda Accords. This was also confirmed by Honda Dealer Service department and two independent mechanics. Honda needs to issue a recall for effected vehicles.
The drive shaft light is on and clicking, car is extremely hard to turn in any direction or drive.
Starter is faulty. Car starter does not engage engine. Needed to get it replaced
After having my Honda Accord sport 2015 4 cylinder, I started to notice around 90k miles an occasional grinding noise when starting the car that is getting progressively worse. I've had previous Hondas with many more miles and never had this issue before. I believe the issue is the starter, but I have not been able to take it to the mechanic yet. I intend to go this weekend. I'd like to also state there have been numerous reports regarding starters for a V6 engine, and I believe it is the same for 4 cylinders.
I had a high pressure fuel pump failure on August 14 2022. I was driving on the highway in stop and go traffic when suddenly my car could not accelerate over 30mph. This was dangerous not only for me but for others around me. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they diagnosed it was a high pressure fuel pump failure. I was then told that this is a very rare part to have failed and there was no cause to the failure. There were no warning lamps, symptoms, or other messages prior to the failure.
I am original owner of vehicle, 125,000 miles, well maintained, no accidents. I would like to add to other owner complaints of, "Car is turning without input from driver". My sample turns right. I must actively resist the car in order to maintain my lane. There are no MILs illuminated in the instrument panel. I asked dealer to align the vehicle. Dealer claimed, "Cannot be Aligned", "Power Steering Rack is Leaking". I was skeptical of claim because I have "Electric" Power Steering System. I took vehicle to an independent mechanic. They found minor misalignment and successfully corrected that. The mechanic advised me that he found the vehicle is "wanting to turn right on its own". I have documentation from both establishments.
Vehicle failing to start consistently. Battery is fine. No noise is heard when moving key to start. Either starter or ignition is bad. Concern about being stranded.
Car is making weird static/ like someone is getting crushed near dashboard driver side but also sounds like near rear view mirror but as well as near speaker
There are multiple complaints about starting issues and ABS module issues for 2013-2016 Accords online. I myself am also experiencing Starting issues and ABS issues I have bought a starter 4 times from Honda and they have all had the same issue of intermittently working. My ABS Module has just went out and Honda wants 1,300 for a problem that has been known about since the 2013 release. Something needs to be done as I have paid well over $3,000 for the issue to not be fixed.
Both left and right airbags between front doors and front windshield rattle and make noise inside. Noise can be heard clearly while driving above 40 mph and does not stop until vehicle stops. Not sure if this is something that can be looked into by the dealer and repaired but if they are broken or defective, it’s not something the consumer should have to pay for when the airbags have never been used or opened. Defect should be looked at prior to an accident taking place for safety.
6/24/2022 I was driving my 2015 Honda Accord with 65k miles when the car had no power, unable to accelerate, and limited steering. The following warning lights went on : Malfunction Indicator Lamp, Vehicle Stability System Indicator, Electric Power Steering System Indicstor, and Low Tire Pressure indicator (new tires last week). I let the car sit for awhile and restarted it with the same warnings showing. Very scary and unsafe to suddenly lose power and steering. I had just returned from a trip on a mountain road and busy highway which could have had deadly results. My car is a 2015 with 65 thousand miles on it- how does something this dangerous occur?
Starter is inconsistent. Looked online and many customers have complained about it. It’s not just a starter it’s a flaw in the design. Looks like other parts need to be replaced in order to correct the issue. This should be a recall.
Back up camera black screen, safety issue.
I can always feel that the transmission is not responsive. Every now and then when I back up or the car moves into the first gear after I put it in the drive mode it takes awhile before it really moves. It staggers and stalls before the acceleration finally kicks in. The scariest incident was when I needed to accelerate onto the highway on the entry ramp and the car was stalling and refusing to increase torque and speed even though the acceleration pedal was all the way floored. It almost caused a major crash from the rear. Every Honda dealer I go to cannot seem to replicate the issue I keep experiencing and dismiss my account as if it is in my head. I wish someone addresses this important warning urgently before there is a catastrophic car incident involving our lives. Looking forward to a prompt resolution to a recurring issue. My guess is that there was a transmission software update from the dealership when I first bought the car which has caused this recurring transmission issue which Honda refuses to acknowledge.
It is regarding the Starter Grinds or Spins at Startup (Service bulletin 16-002). My car was giving finding noise while starting. When I checked with my dealer they replaced the new starter (I paid from my pocket). Again i got the same issue, then started was replaces 2nd time. On the very next day i received the same issue. So they took their time and did the diagnosis that this is something to do with (Service bulletin 16-002). Dealr is asking for parts and repair cost close to 4.5 grand. I did the research and found that this is an ongoing issue and bulletin was issued. Please advise me as i got stranded on a cold day in Chicago with my family. It is very unsafe.
I was coming out of a turn on a local street, going very slow. My vehicle ended up crossing the two lane road and hit a telephone pole. The pole did not fall down. Thankfully, neither myself nor my front passenger were seriously injured. We had on seat belts and the air bags DID NOT deploy. There was no warning of a crash in terms of instruments or trouble with handling. The vehicle motor was shut off because I tried to cut the motor after impact and it was already stalled. The vehicle was declared a total loss. No one to my knowledge did any safety inspections. I have since learned that the crash may be a result of some known defects in the model. I have never received any recall notices in the years of owning the car. I purchased as certified pre-owned in 2018. This is a courtesy notice to help others.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while reversing when he was going to steer the vehicle, the steering wheel locked. The contact stated he continued moving the steering wheel causing the steering to operate normally. The contact stated that the failure occurred several times. The dealer was contacted for diagnosis and an appointment was sheduled. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
There is a buzzing sound coming from the airbag driver side
While driving my FCW lights came and said failure. I took my car to an independent service center and they confirmed that many Hondas with the same year have had this same problem. Told me that he wouldn't even be able to repair because the part needed to fix the light from coming on was unavailable all across the world. So many Hondas have had this same issue and needed to repair this issue that it's unavailable. I had the car less than one year after I bought it used with less than 95,000 miles. I've owned 5 other Honda accords that would go forever and have 200,000+ miles without any issues. I've already had to place my alternator 5 times and starter as well.
Electric power steering failed to work properly, including turning wheels hard to the left without driver effort; driver could override this through continuous effort to hold wheels straight against steering system pull. Dealer service confirmed the problem; replacement cost was $2837, mostly for parts. Vehicle has less than 28,000 miles. There were no warning lamps, messages, etc. Repair notes that DTC vehicle scanned no stored codes.
Intermittent starting of car. Push button start works inconsistently. All lights on dashboard light up and system sometimes makes clicking sound. Have been stranded numerous times. I often times have young grandchildren in car so this is a safety issue.
Backup camera doesn’t work anymore it gives me a black screen. I’ve seen multiple people with this problem on the same car this a safety hazard because of the camera not allowing me to see what’s behind me. Car is also fairly new with 45000 miles.
While driving on the freeway at 65mph my electric power steering failed. The steering suddenly became very difficult to manage. Fortunately for me, I am a big strong man and was able to control the car. The reason I want to report this is if a person with little strength or disability would not be able to control the car. Especially in a high speed turning situation. I have researched this online and found a few people have had accidents because of the steering failure. The EPS (electric power steering) module failed. Replacing this unit fixed the problem.
2015 accord with 39000 mi. has had a starter motor fail, this apparently a common problem.
Driving on freeway went and applied foot to gas pedal and car goes into limp mode causing in ability to drive as there isnt any power and mil light starts to blink and or will set and if it sets the traction steering and tp light also come on. Have to pull over turn car off and then the car will go this mil if sets is a p0304 code but light will go off.
I am having issues starting my vehicle. I have a manufacture alarm system installed in a vehicle. I've never had issues but recently, when I sometimes (not consistently) hear my alarm honks twice before my the car engine starts. Now, my car doesn't even start, no click whatsoever. All the lights do come on when I attempt to start the car. I got a diagnosis done with Napa, no issues with the battery or starter. I also changed the battery on my key. Starting my vehicle was never an issue but recently, maybe 3 months ago. I've searched this issue on the internet and saw that some customers are having the same honking issues and problems with starting their car. I am very concern for my safety that my vehicle does not start. I am not able to quickly start my vehicle when there is an emergency and Ia stranded trying to start my car. Currently, I have been successful in starting my vehicle after multiple attempts, activating and deactivating my alarm, closing and opening the car door, just trying to troubleshoot the issue so I could get my car started. It's becoming an issue as my car is having issues starting daily and I fear for my safety. I contacted a Honda dealership to see what could be done but I was told it would cause me $175 to simply diagnose my vehicle which I don't have the capability of paying for. I currently have 98,000 miles on my vehicle and get an oil change, other maintenance done regularly. I don't expect this issue to happen on a reliable vehicle like a Honda Accord so this issue is surprising to me. It is causing me alot of stress and trauma whenever I start my car, not knowing if I will get stranded or not.
Honda Accord LX 2015 engine sputtered and failed 3 times while in idle with A/C on then won’t start after that. Battery, alternator confirmed good. Use medium grade gas BP, lights on, drives well after it starts. Changed battery-mechanic says good. So why does this keep happening? Am frustrated as it is expensive to change out the parts. Honda has lost its good reputation. Taking back to Honda dealer in Miami to fix again.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. Additionally, the vehicle was pulling to the right. The contact stated that extra effort was needed to turn the steering wheel. The contact pulled off the road, stopped and placed the vehicle in park(P) and turned off and restarted the vehicle. The contact stated that the power steering functionality returned. The contact stated that the steering wheel symbol was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent but that it had become more frequent. The vehicle was driven to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure, and the rack and pinion gears were replaced along with the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) module. The contact stated that vehicle had experienced the same failure after repairs were made and had not been repaired since the last failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Power Steering did not work when I went out to my car. I took it to Honda and they replaced the power steering rod While I was driving it power steering failed again. Took it back to Honda - replaced electrical panel While I was driving power steering went out again. Back in shop with Honda and saying needs electrical harness repair. Dangerous to drive as you have no control over steering car while driving
The contact owned a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving approximately 3 mph and making a left turn, a Chevrolet crashed into the passenger side quarter panel. The steering wheel air bag deployed. The contact sustained a fractured wrist and brunt her hand. The occupant of the passenger seat sustained back injuries. The driver obtained medical attention. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire. The vehicle was towed by the insurance company. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss.
With no warning, the battery failed. The car started up again with a jump from AAA. I drove it for 45 minutes. Turned off the car and it would not start again. Had to spend almost $200 to get a new battery on the spot. I have not been to a dealer or service center. I was lucky to be in a position to get a new battery quickly. It may have affected my safety if I'd been out of the city and unable to get help.
The VSA Modulator-Control Unit failed at only 25K miles
Car does not start all the time. After a few attempts it will start. Some times it starts without issue. This vehicle is unreliable and can leave you stranded. Regretting my purchase. Car only has 44k miles. Pathetic
The car will not start. Steering wheel and gearshift are locked. Beeps and flashes various symbols when attempting to start. Have done trouble shooting processes in drivers manual with no success. Car worked fine last night. Cannot get car to do anything. Dangerous and frustrating--what if it happened while traveling? If it won't operate, depending when it occurred could compromise safety--parked in a public area, etcetera. Car is up to date with maintenance and vehicle inspection. Presently waiting for car to be towed to dealer.
Everything in the car shuts off and on all of a sudden; this includes the screen the air all the lights and the car kind of jerks. it goes back almost immediately but I'm afraid it will do this on the freeway. It has done this at least 4 times in the last month.
Ignition switch failed and had to be replaced. Car only has 65,000 miles. This must be a manufacturing defect, but American Honda refuses to accept any responsibility.
The shucks began shuddering at highway speeds and upon stopping within 1 mile of first incident the vehicle was unable to move under its own power. Further inspection of the car by the Honda dealership determined the transmission failed.
Car intermittently won't start
While driving, the steering wheel light started to come on and started to make a noise, then the steering wheel itself got stuck and could not turn the vehicle. This we were so close to crashing putting in risk myself and my kids at the time. Since then, I can’t drive it due to the steering wheel locking.
My 2015 Honda Accord V6 EXL auto transmission will not start. When I press the start button with my foot on the break, the car does not start
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the power steering failed, and the steering wheel was stiff and difficult to turn. The parking brake failed to disengage when the contact attempted to drive the vehicle. The dealer was made aware of the failure and scheduled an upcoming appointment for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
This car started having starting problem , I replaced the battery but that didn't help at all. It take two to three attempts to start after driving a little while.
In 2017, my vehicle was part of a Honda recall for the battery sensor. I had the recall service completed at Colerain Honda in Cincinnati, OH. Honda marked recall repair as completed in 2017, but the same defect has been ongoing since 2021 through today. I have had to replace multiple alternators and batteries, believing the recall repair (battery sensor issue) was properly resolved, but the issue persists. This raises concern that the recall work was either not done correctly or not done at all. The dealership has refused to provide records or assistance, leaving me to cover repair costs throughout the years. This is a safety and reliability concern that remains unresolved. When I contacted the dealership, they were unable or unwilling to provide documentation of the actual recall repair outside of "it's been completed, we can't see back that far", leaving me uncertain whether the work was properly performed and how they did it. I was also treated rudely and dismissed when requesting answers or proof. This raises a potential safety risk: If the recall repair was never done, my vehicle is still at risk of electrical fire or failure. If the repair was improperly performed, it could leave me and other drivers in danger. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether Honda and Colerain Honda fulfilled their recall obligations in this case.
Purchased Used 2015 Honda Accord Hybrid from Dealer March 25, 2021. Vehicle ran clean for two months, but now in the last month and a half, vehicle randomly will not start on 3 separate occasions. During these incidences vehicle will also not give power to door locks, etc, leaving driver stranded with no way to lock themselves in the vehicle for safety if necessary. Vehicle is keyless/push-button start. Battery tests good. ***Incident 1: Vehicle did not start on 88 degree day. No accessory power either. Would not power door locks. Left my 17 year old daughter stranded in excessive heat, in a Metro area parking lot until I could get to her two hours later. Multiple attempts to start the vehicle/pressing brake/start button with key fob next to start button. Replaced batteries in Key fobs with no change. Vehicle started with a jump. ***Incident 2: Similar to 1st incident, vehicle randomly would not start, no accessory power or power to door locks. Again, very hot and humid evening. Multiple attempts were made to push-button-start the vehicle with key fob well within area to start it. Called someone to come get us but continued attempts to start the car. It randomly started after about 45 minutes. Battery indicator on dashboard indicates good charge on battery. Left our family stranded in a rural area in the dark with excessive heat during this time. ***Incident 3: Vehicle will not start when pressing brake, start button, and key fob close by. My daughter was stranded again in 89 degrees outside. I picked her up with no success in starting the vehicle. Car's still sitting. ** There is no 'suspicious' activity of the vehicle before this happens. Completely random. New batteries in fobs. Concerned this could develop into a bigger problem of these models I've discovered; stalling while driving. (??) It appears our problem is large enough that there are public videos online about this. Hopefully we can rectify this as it poses a risk to stranded motorists left alone.
The contact owns a 2015 Honda Accord. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning. There was an abnormal clicking sound detected. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the starter needed to be replaced. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 62,000.
Transmission is not shifting. Also, when backing up car may jump and then stall.
Honda Accord Touring Hybrid 2015. I was parked in front of a building and the car speed up and crashed against a wall. I was not stepping on the gas or the breaks. The car was on parking. I got injured and the airbags deployed. I did some research on the internet and this has happened before. I am glad I am fine.
Driving at Interstate speeds, I had the engine suddenly **THUNK** and lose power. I limped it to the side of the road to get out of traffic. I went to investigate and the vehicle would not even idle. It just shut off After having it towed back to local service company, looked at, and the dealership I bought it at to look at, I am told the main bearing failed on the connecting rod. The thunks I hear is the rod spinning in there, shearing off metal shavings that are now all over inside the engine bay. Honda has a TSB out for the car, for this exact issue, but my VIN number somehow doesn't fit in their window. Component that failed - Main bearing on the Connecting Rod Safety of myself and others - Gave out while driving highway speeds, which caused the car to lose power to keep it at highway speeds. Had to limp it to the shoulder Reproduction of problem - Yes, at an independent service center and a dealership service center Component inspected - not by any of the listed people, just the service centers Warning lamps, messages, symptoms - None whatsoever I have amazon receipts of items purchased for all at home maintenance done on the vehicle since it was bought new. I do not have a scanner handy for the service center documentation and receipts
When accelerating it does like it’s running out of gas and doesn’t want to go… I can feel the car sputting! I was going through a light that had turned green and an 18wheeler was coming up behind me thought the car wasn’t going to accelerate
