There are 17 owner-reported brakes complaints for the 2017 Honda Accordin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The car hit the brakes automatically at 70MPH when passing on the left. There was absolutely nothing in front of the car that should have triggered the CMBS.
ABS LOW VOLTAGE WARNING symbol appeared on vehicle. $3500 to repair according to dealership. This is a common issue on these vehicles and poses a safety risk. Hoping that NHTSA will investigate this problem as many owners have experienced same issue and repair cost is significant, particularly for a vehicle this age.
ON [XXX] my car while driving suddenly reported ABS brake system failure, together with that other warnings flashed Adaptive cruise, PS System (EPS) failure etc. With difficulty I was able to stop the car and pull over. Same day I called Honda service HQ and lodged a complaint Case number [XXX]. The car has 57,478 miles and is properly maintained. Honda suggested that I drive the car over to a dealership. I am unwilling to drive due to serious safety concerns. Another followup email was sent on July 8th to acs@ahm.honda.com but has resulted in no response. I am a [XXX] and even though its a serious safety incidence, Honda has shown no signs of concern . Please advise and help me out, the company should get it towed and fix the issue free of charge. Thank you INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
ABS Module set the following lights to turn on: emergency brake, traction control, steering wheel with exclamation mark.
I am writing to bring to your attention a serious safety issue I have experienced with my 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring, which has 58,757 miles on it and has been diligently maintained with all scheduled services up to date by Honda dealership. On March 18, 2025, I reported a brake fluid leak originating from underneath the brake pedal inside the cabin. Upon taking the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership for inspection, I was informed that the root cause is a faulty brake booster Simulator. What is particularly concerning is that there was no warning light, alert, or indication of this issue prior to the visible brake fluid leak. The only reason this dangerous condition was discovered was due to visibly seeing brake fluid inside the vehicle cabin. This issue has been reported to Honda customer service center, however their focus was only not vehicle millage being out warranty without offering any root cause or resolution. Honda dealership stated that this very uniqe they haven't face this type failure.
On [XXX] the car was being drive from North Carolina to Ohio. The brakes failed in Fort Chiswell, VA, at 5:00 pm on [XXX]. Using the brake pedal did not slow the car, had to put gear selector in B, that slowed the car but did not bring it to a stop. Had to use the emergency brakes to come to a complete stop. This malfunction could cause a crash or could cause injury or death. The brakes failed a second time the tollbooth between Princeton, WV, and Beckley, WV. On [XXX] the car was towed to the Honda dealership in Beckley WV. The dealership worked on the brakes and claimed to have fixed the problem. On [XXX], after one hour of driving, now in Charleston, WV, the brakes failed a third time. The car was turned off and then back on and driven and the brakes failed a fourth time. The car was towed to the Honda dealership in Charleston WV. The dealership was told that the problem occurs after driving the car for an hour or so. The dealership was not willing to drive the car that long to replicate the problem. There is a Honda Service Bulletin [XXX] that pertains to a similar brake problem on this vehicle. The dealership did not appear to be aware of the service bulletin. When the braked failed, the following warning indicators were displayed on the dashboard: Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) problem Hill Start Assist problem Collision Mitigation System Problem Road Departure Mitigation System Problem Adaptive Cruise Control Problem Brake System Problem INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
All brake lights are displayed on dash, along with steering, tire, and ABS lights. I spoke with the dealership two years ago and the part has been backordered. They could not tell me when it would become available. I checked today and it's available and expensive. When driving my brakes shake. I've had the brakes repaired at least for times and they still don't fully brake properly.
Multiple safety lights on dash including brakes, ABS, power steering, traction control. Multiple incidents where vehicle braking exceeded safety standards.
1) ABS Module 2) ABS break is not working. So it puts myself and others at risk. 3) Yes. 4) N/A 5) It has traction control, steering wheel, and ABS lights on. It appeared when the vehicle hits 70k. Honda should do a recall on this issues. This is a wide known issues for 9th gen Honda Accord owners
The contact owns a 2017 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the service brakes and ABS warning lights had remained illuminated. The vehicle was examined by a service mechanic who diagnosed that the ABS module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,000.
After my car serviced. Four new wheels, alignment, oil change etc..My ABS light, Brake light, Traction control light, and power steering light all started to come on at the same time. I did some research and found out its due to Honda’s faulty ABS module. It cost $2600.00 to repair and its all due to a wire malfunction inside the module.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, MY HONDA ACCORD COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM WILL APPLY THE BRAKES FOR NO REASON. THERE WAS NOTHING AHEAD OF ME THAT SHOULD CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. LUCKILY, THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED WHEN SOMEONE WAS CLOSELY FOLLOWING ME. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST 10 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW IN 2017. IT HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT ON A HIGHWAY.
11/03/2019 2:30PM. SUNNY 60 DEGREE F. 2017 4DR ACCORD HYBRID TOURING 26009MILES. ALWAYS DEALER SERVICED. EXITING HIGHWAY 55MPH, WHILE APPLY BRAKE THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS COMING ON WITH ALL KINDS OF MESSAGES. INCLUDING THE RED BRAKE ON RIGHT SIDE OF DISPLAY AND AMBER BRAKE SYSTEM ON LOWER RIGHT SIDE OF DISPLAY. BRAKES WERE VERY MINIMAL AND HAD TO USE PARKING BRAKE. BRAKE PEDAL WOULD PULSATE AND MAKE AN AUDIBLE CLICKING NOISE.VERY DANGEROUS. DROVE TO A PARKING LOT, SHUT CAR OFF AND RESTARTED, NO FURTHER ISSUES THAT DAY. I WILL BRING TO DEALER ASAP. WARNINGS DISPLAYED IN CENTER OF DISPLAY: BRAKE SYTEM PROBLEM ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST (VSA) PROBLEM HILL START ASSIST PROBLEM COLLISION SYSTEM MITIGATION PROBLEM ROAD DEPARTURE MITIGATION SYSTEM PROBLEM. WHILE STOPPED I WAS ABLE TO TAKE PICTURES OF ALL THE DISPLAYS.
ON OR ABOUT 6/10/19 WHILE DRIVING TO WORK I NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY CAR. THE SOUND WAS LIKE SCREECHING NAILS ON A CHALKBOARD WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION AT ANY SPEED WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. THE SOUND WOULD GO AWAY WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER I PICKED UP MY CAR ON 6/15/19 FROM SERVICE, WITH ONLY 18,119 MILES, I WAS INFORMED BY MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER THAT ALL THE BRAKE PADS HAD SEIZED AND ALL BRAKE CALIPER PINS HAD FROZEN. THE CAR HAS ONLY BEEN SUBJECT TO NORMAL DRIVING. THIS IS HONDA CASE # 09629449.
AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT, IN THE CITY OF TUCSON, ARIZONA, I TURNED RIGHT ON A GREEN LIGHT AND HEARD A LOUD BANG COMING FROM THE FRONT OF MY CAR. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS NOT GOING VERY FAST SINCE I WAS TURNING FROM A DEAD STOP. I COASTED INTO THE SERVICE STATION ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR IN ORDER TO PARK THE CAR. WHEN I TRIED TO APPLY THE BRAKES NOTHING HAPPENED. PLACED MY RIGHT FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TWICE AND THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND. I COASTED INTO THE BACK OF A TRUCK THAT WAS PARKED. TWO WITNESSES TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVER OF A TRUCK HAD RUN A RED LIGHT AND HIT ME. THE POLICE WERE CALLED, BUT WOULD NOT MAKE A REPORT. IN TUCSON, AZ, UNLESS TRAFFIC IS BLOCKED OR SOMEONE IS HURT THE POLICE WILL NOT RESPOND TO AN ACCIDENT. THIS TOOK PLACE DURING DAYLIGHT AROUND 7:15 AM. THE BRAKES WORKED LATER AT THE REPAIR SHOP. THEY DID NOT WORK IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE I WAS HIT.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND THE VEHICLE APPLY THE BRAKES WITHOUT ANYTHING BEEN IN FRONT OF IT. IT'S SCARY BECAUSE ANY ONE COULD REAR END YOU. TOOK IT TO HONDA WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASE AND THEY WAS TAKING ABOUT REALIGNING THE SENSOR.
WHILE OPERATING MY VEHICLE, IN MOTION, THE COLLISION MITIGATION BRAKING SYSTEM (CMBS) LIGHT COMES ON FREQUENTLY FOR NO REASON. THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING IN BOTH CITY STREET & HIGHWAY DRIVING AS WELL. THE CMBS SYSTEM HAS ALSO FULLY ACTIVATED BY ITSELF A FEW TIMES, FOR NO APPARENT REASON, RESULTING IN THE BRAKES LOCKING UP COMPLETELY. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN MY BEING HIT FROM BEHIND AS I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS OCCURS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM MORE THAN ONCE, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SYSTEM WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE SYSTEM ACTIVATES I FEEL VERY UNSAFE OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN THERE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW IN JULY 2017. *THE DATE SELECTED BELOW IS THE FIRST OF MANY OCCURRENCES, TO INCLUDE JUST YESTERDAY*
