WHEN EVEN LIGHTLY TOUCHING THE TURN SIGNAL, THE HEADLIGHTS ON OUR 2006 HONDA CIVIC COUPE GO OFF. TOUCHING THE TURN SIGNAL MAKES THEM COME BACK ON. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. SOME PREVIOUS HONDA MODEL YEARS MAY HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THE COMBINATION SWITCH PROBLEM, AND WE ARE WONDERING WHY 2006 MODEL YEAR IS NOT. THIS HAPPENED WITH OUR VEHICLE JUST A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER THE 5 YEAR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY EXPIRED. IN RESEARCHING THE COMBINATION SWITCH INCIDENTS ON THE WEB, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
PREMATURE AND UNEVEN WEAR ON REAR TIRES. HONDA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN, 08-001, WHICH ADDRESSES A PROBLEM WITH REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM. UPPER CONTROL ARM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ON 2006 AND 2007 MODELS DUE TO POOR DESIGN. HOWEVER, HONDA IS WAITING UNTIL PEOPLE COMPLAIN BEFORE THEY ARE REPLACING THE CONTROL ARMS. HONDA CHANGED THE DESIGN ON 2008 AND NEWER CIVICS. ON MY CAR, A MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE LEFT REAR TIRE WAS WORE DOWN TO THE CORD ON THE INSIDE PART OF THE TIRE, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED A BLOWOUT. ALSO, TIRE TREAD ON INSIDE PART OF RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS NOTICEABLY WORN, ALTHOUGH NOT AS BAD AS LEFT REAR TIRE. TIRE TREAD ON FRONT TIRES IS FINE. AND TIRE TREAD ON THE OUTSIDE PART OF THE REAR TIRES IS FINE. VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE THE DAMAGED PORTION OF THE REAR TIRES WITHOUT HAVING CAR UP ON RACK. *TR
I TOOK IN MY CAR TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THE TIRES ROTATED. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT ROTATE THE TIRES BECAUSE THERE WAS "TOO MUCH WEAR" AND THEY WERE "WORN OUT". I HAVE HAD THE TIRES FOR 30,000 MILES AND THEY HAVE AN 80,000 MILE WARRANTY. *TR
PREMATURE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF WATER PUMP PULLEY CAUSED BY PULLEY BOLTS FALLING OUT OF PULLEY, PULLEY DETACHING AND THAN CAUSING FAILURE OF SERPENTINE ACCESSORY BELT. HONDA WILL NOT COVER THIS UNDER TSB 08-039. THIS IS A SAEFTY ISSUE AS WELL - LOSS OF POWER STEERING, COOLING, ENGINE COULD BLOW. I HAVE TO BRING INTO DEALER CONTACTED HONDA ASKED THEM TO COVER 100% OF COST THEY ONLY COVER 40%. REPLACED WITH UPGRADED PARTS NOT SAME FLAWED DESIGN. HONDA MUST COVER 100% OF THIS. HAVING TAKEN MY CAR IN FOR A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT 91,000 MILES I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WAS ONLY WORKING ON AN INTERMEDIATE BASIS. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT A PRODUCT RECALL WAS IN PLACE FOR SAME YEAR MAKE - DIFFERENT MODEL. I'M HAVING THIS CORRECTED AT MY EXPENSE BUT FELT IT NECESSARY TO ALERT YOU FOLKS TO A POSSIBLE DEFECT IN OTHER CARS OF SAME MAKE AND MODEL YEAR. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC IS EATING THROUGH REAR TIRES. THE TIRES THREAD ON THE INSIDE IS WEARING OUT. THE ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN CHECKED AND READING THROUGH THE BLOGS, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP (HONDA) IS NOT RECOGNIZING THIS PROBLEM. *TT
HONDA RECALL.THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC [XXX], FOR THE VISORS FALLING DUE TO FAILURE OF INTERNAL SPRINGS THAT HOLD THEM IN PLACE, CAUSING OBSTRUCTION OF VISION AS WELL AS A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, CURTTRIGHT HONDA IN ENID OK. I WAS TOLD THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. FOR REASONS UNKNOWN I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE RECALL, HAD I KNOWN I CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE TAKEN CORRECTIVE ACTION IN A TIMELY MANNER. I WAS LATE RESPONDING TO THE RECALL NOTICE BUT WHY DOES AN IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR EVEN DEATH UNDER THE RIGHT CIRCUMSTANCES? THE RECALL WAS EXTENDED 7 YEARS BUT THAT EXTENSION HAS PASSED AS WELL. THERE WAS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT FILED BUT I WAS NOT A PART OF IT. MY REAR TIRES ON MY '06 WERE MAKING A ROARING NOISE AND VIBRATING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. AFTER PUTTING 15,000 MILES ON IT (BOUGHT USED WITH 64,404 MILES ON IT), MY TIRES WORE OUT DUE TO UNEVEN TIRE WEAR AT THE INNER EDGES. FORTUNATELY BY CHANCE, JUST BEFORE WE EMBARKED ON A 1500 MILE TRIP, I JUST ACCIDENTALLY HAPPENED TO NOTICE THAT THE BELTS WERE SHOWING ON THE INNER EDGE OF MY RIGHT REAR TIRE. THIS WAS NOT READILY NOTICEABLE FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR, UNTIL I CRAWLED UNDER THE BACK END OF MY CAR TO CHECK ON SOMETHING ELSE. FROM THE APPEARANCE OF THE OUTER EDGES AND MID-SECTIONS OF MY TIRES, I NEVER WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT MY TIRES WERE IN NEED OF IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT AND THAT THIS WAS AN ACCIDENT JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN! AFTER INSPECTING THE OTHER TIRES ON MY CAR, I ENDED UP REPLACING A TOTAL OF THREE TIRES. HOWEVER, THIS WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH MY TIRE-EATING CAR, SINCE THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS REQUIRE REPLACEMENT, AS OUTLINED IN HONDA TSB 08-001. I WENT TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND WAS INFORMED BY A SERVICE REP THAT THEY HANDLE THESE CLAIMS ON A CASE-BY-CASE BASIS. SINCE I DID NOT SAVE MY WORN OUT TIRES AND DUE TO THE CURRENT MILEAGE ON MY CAR, I DECIDED THAT IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A WASTE OF TIME FOR ME TO TRY TO GET HONDA TO REPLACE THE CONTROL ARMS AT THEIR EXPENSE. AFTER REVIEWING TSB 08-001, IT IS MY OPINION THAT HONDA SHOULD DO THE RIGHT THING AND INITIATE AN IMMEDIATE SAFETY RECALL TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION. PREMATURE TIRE WEAR DUE TO THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM CONFIGURATION APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE 06 & 07 CIVIC MODELS, AS INDICATED BY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND BY THE LARGE NUMBER OF AFTERMARKET ADJUSTABLE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS/CAMBER KITS THAT ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. MY CIVIC NOW STAYS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY ALL OF THE TIME. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT IS NOT EASILY OR READILY NOTICEABLE TO CONSUMERS! *TT
BROUGHT VEHICLE TO HONDA DUE TO LOUD ROARING SOUND NEAR REAR LEFT TIRE. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BEARING AS THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL AND MY CAR WAS SUPPOSEDLY "OK". HONDA CALLS AND WANTS TO CHARGE ME ALMOST $800 FOR 2 NEW CONTROL ARMS, 2 NEW REAR TIRES, AND AN ALIGNMENT. I DO SOME RESEARCH AND FIND OUT THERE IS A TSB: HONDA DESIGNED THE CONTROL ARMS WRONG CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR OF THE TIRES. THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THEM WITH NEWLY DESIGNED CONTROL ARMS. SO, HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR IT CONSIDERING THEY DESIGNED A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. HONDA WILL NOT PAY FOR IT. ESSENTIALLY, HONDA IS ADMITTING THE PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE BY REPLACING IT WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED PRODUCT. MY PURCHASED AN AFTERMARKET WARRANTY FROM THE HONDA STEALERSHIP: THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE CONTROL ARMS CLAIMING "IT IS A DEFECT CAUSED BY HONDA" AND THE PART IS NOT BROKEN. THE CONSUMER LOSES ONCE AGAIN AND HONDA TAKES THE MONEY. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY DEFECTIVE DESIGN ON THIS CAR: THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKS DUE TO IMPROPER CASTING, THE CHEAP VISORS BREAK: AT LEAST HONDA EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS TO 8 YEARS. AFTER THAT, I GUESS YOU'RE OUT OF LUCK. THIS IS MY 6TH HONDA. I ALSO HAVE A HONDA LAWNMOWER AND POWERWASHER. HONDA WAS THE ONLY VEHICLE I WOULD BUY DUE TO THEIR HIGH QUALITY AND RELIABILITY. THEY USED TO BUILD QUALITY PRODUCTS AND STAND BEHIND THEM. NOW THEY BUILD GARBAGE AT A PREMIUM PRICE AND REFUSE TO STAND BEHIND THEM. I KNEW I BOUGHT THAT HYUNDAI SONATA FOR $4,000 LESS THAN AN ACCORD... PS: THE HYUNDAI HAS 0 ISSUES AND RUNS GREAT WITH SIMILAR MILEAGE. SORRY HONDA: I WILL BE PURCHASING FROM A COMPANY THAT STANDS BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS INSTEAD OF COMPANY RIDING OFF OF THEIR NAME LEGACY FROM THE 80'S AND 90'S. CHECK OUT HYUNDAI OR EVEN DARE I SAY AND AMERICAN CAR: THE QUALITY IS MUCH BETTER. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNEVEN TIRE WEAR, SHOCKS OR STRUT ISSUES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE TIRES WERE REPLACED FIVE TIMES. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED HIS VEHICLE HAD A DEFECTIVE REAR CAMBER. THE DEALER WAS ONLY WILLING TO PAY HALF OF THE COST. DESPITE, THE CAMBER BEING DEFECTIVE. *JB
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 25MPH ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN I SMELLED RUBBER BURNING AND THEN MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A TRUSTED FRIEND'S SHOP TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THEN TO FIX IT. WE FOUND THAT THE TENSIONER BOLT WAS BROKEN. OUR MECHANIC HAS DONE LOTS OF RESEARCH ON THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE FOUND THAT OTHER OWNERS OF 2006 HONDA CIVICS ARE ALSO HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO REPLACE THIS BOLT. I ONLY HAVE 75,000 MILES ON THIS HONDA AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS FAIRLY NEW CAR. I HOPE IT CAN BE FIXED. *TR
HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IMA BATTERY DEPLETES EVERY TIME I START THE CAR AND THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR ELECTRIC MOTOR WITH 2 MINUTES OF STARTING TO DRIVE. SO THERE IS NO ELECTRIC ASSIST WHEN ENTERING FREEWAY. THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE IS UNDERSIZED FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR AND THUS GETTING ON THE FREEWAY CAN BE QUITE DANGEROUS. ALSO HONDA ISSUED A RECALL TO "FIX" IMA BATTERY ISSUES. THIS HAS RESULTED IN SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER GAS MILEAGE THAN WAS ADVERTISED. PRIOR TO THE IMA RECALL THE CAR RETURNED 42-46 MPG AFTER THE RECALL IT NOW RETURNS 33-35 MPG. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR BROKE AND FELL OFF IN AUGUST 2011 ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC. PRIOR TO AUGUST 2011, WHEN MOVING IT BACK INTO THE NONUSE POSITION IT WOULD STICK AND HANG IN THE WAY CAUSING VISIBILITY PROBLEMS. THEN EVENTUALLY BROKE ALL THE WAY AND JUST FELL OFF. THIS WAS NOT DUE TO MISUSE OR OVERUSE!!!! THIS IS A FAULTY PRODUCT!!! I AM APPALLED THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A CORRECTIVE PRODUCT DESIGNED AND REPLACED THROUGH A RECALL SCENARIO!!!! IT IS OBVIOUS THERE IS A DEFECT IN THIS PART!!!! IF YOU WILL SEARCH THE INTERNET AND EVEN THIS SITE, YOU WILL SEE THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WARRANTS A RECALL! THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS YOU CANNOT SEE WHEN THE SUN IS AT A CERTAIN LEVEL IN THE SKY WITHOUT THE VISOR, AND YOU CANNOT SEE WITH A FAULTY VISOR THAT HANGS IN YOUR FIELD OF VISION WHEN IN A "BROKEN BUT HASN'T FALLEN OFF YET" SCENARIO. HONDA - YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!! PLEASE RECTIFY THIS PROBLEM FOR THE SAFETY OF ME AND MY DAUGHTER!!!! I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS IN MY LIFE AND HAVE NEVER, NEVER, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH A SUNVISOR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE WORN PREMATURELY. THE ROTORS WERE TOO SMALL FOR THE PADS AND THERE WAS A CONSTANT NOISE COMING FROM THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT LEAST THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SRS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE WARNING LIGHT WAS INDICATING THAT THE REAR PASSENGERS WERE NOT WEARING THEIR SEAT BELTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE SYSTEM FAILED DUE TO A DAMAGED WIRING SYSTEM UNDER THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR REPAIRS UNDER A MANUFACTURER'S ENGINE BLOCK FAILURE WARRANTY IN MARCH 2012. THE LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACED THE ENGINE COIL AND THE ENGINE SENSOR, BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED AN ENGINE COOLANT LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND LOCATED THE FAILURE AS THE ENGINE BLOCK BEING CRACKED DUE TO DEFECTIVE ALUMINUM. THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENGINE BLOCK, THE TIMING CHAINS AND THE SPARK PLUGS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000. FUEL GAUGE OPERATES INTERMITTENTLY. GAUGE MAY SHOW AS 'FULL' WHEN EMPTY; OR INDICATE 'EMPTY' WHEN FULL. AT TIMES, GAUGE LIGHTING IS OFF AND WILL NOT REFLECT EITHER 'FULL' OR 'EMPTY' FUEL TANK. HAS ALSO INDICATED AS CONTAINING FUEL IN TANK, WHEN IN REALITY IS NEAR EMPTY, WHICH MAY CAUSE DRIVER TO RUN OUT OF FUEL WITHOUT SUFFICIENT WARNING.
SRS LIGHT COMES ON AND DOES NOT GO OFF. CODES 32-10, 33-10 HARD CODES WILL NOT CLEAR. RELATED TO PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATER AND LEFT SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG, RESPECTIVELY. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THESE ITEMS BUT, AS YET, NO RECALL NOTICE. HONDA REFUSES ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR REPAIR/REPLACEMENT OF AFFECTED PARTS AS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. SHOULD THERE BE TIME LIMITS ON SUCH ITEMS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, A LOUD METAL ON METAL TYPE NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE REAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT BOTH REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000. ....UPDATED 12/03/12 *BF THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE REAR WHEEL BEARING WERE ABOUT TO SEIZE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 01/10/12
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, I AM ON MY SECOND SET OF TIRES DUE TO THEM RUBBING ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE WELL. MY CAR HAS 62,000 MILES ON IT. I AM GOING NEXT WEEK TO GET ANOTHER SET OF TIRES ( THE THIRD SET). THE BACK TIRES RUB EXCESSIVELY SO MUCH SO THE BACK OF THE CAR SHAKES, IF I HAVE ANY WEIGHT IN THE CAR IT IS ALMOST UNBEARABLE. *TR
MY WIFE HAS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC THAT HAS AN ISSUE WITH THE PAINT. IT SEEMS LIKE THE HOOD, ROOF, AND TRUNK ARE BEGINNING TO OXIDIZE. WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE PAID ABOUT 60% OF THE COST WITH OUR OUT OF POCKET COST AT ABOUT $300. NO IT LOOKS LIKE THE OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR THAT DID NOT GET PAINTED ARE BEGINNING TO OXIDIZE AGAIN. THE DOORS, FRONT FENDERS AND REAR FENDERS ARE BEGINNING TO OXIDIZE AGAIN. THE LOCAL DEALER IS GOING TO PAINT THEM BUT OUR OUT OF POCKET COST IS AROUND $320 AGAIN. THIS LOOKS LIKE IT IS HAPPENING WITH MANY 2006 HONDA CIVICS AND I HOPE A LAWSUIT OR RECALL IS STARTED SO I CAN GET RE-IMBURSED FOR THE COSTS OF HAVING TO PAINT AFTER ONLY 5 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP ON A BRAND NEW CIVIC. *TR
2006 HONDA SEDAN GOING 70 MPH ON INTERSTATE HIT A ROADSIDE POST HEAD ON AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, LEFT REAR TIRE TORN OFF BY EDGE OF PAVEMENT CAR SPUN TO RIGHT, ROLLED ON DRIVER'S SIDE THEN ROOF, SLID DOWN HIGHWAY. NO SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE TIRES ON MY CIVIC HYBRID WERE ALL WORN ON THE INSIDE AND NOT EASILY VISIBLE (THE OUTSIDE TREAD LOOKED FINE) - I FOUND THIS OUT DURING MY ANNUAL CAR INSPECTION IN JULY/AUG 2008. AT THAT TIME I HAD A FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENT DONE AND TIRES REPLACED BEFORE I COULD PASS THE INSPECTION. SINCE THEN, I REPLACED ONE OF THE TIRES ABOUT A YR AGO BECAUSE THE TIRE STARTED TO COME APART AT THE SEAM AND WAS MAKING A LOUD THUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE HE WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND WAS ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
