MY '06 HONDA CIVIC HAS HAD THE SAME AIR CONDITIONING PROBLEM TWICE ALREADY. THE 1ST TIME THIS HAPPENED (SUMMER OF '09) THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT A PEBBLE HIT THE (APPARENTLY EXTREMELY FRAGILE) CONDENSER UNIT, CAUSING A LEAK. THEY SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY ROAD DEBRIS, SO THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY. THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME OVER $1300 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM (THE FIRST TIME). I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND TONS OF THESE CASES WITH HONDA VEHICLES. APPARENTLY THE CONDENSER IS NOT PROPERLY PROTECTED AGAINST DEBRIS LIKE IT SHOULD BE. THIS IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNLESS HONDA HAS A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN I SPOKE TO HONDA AMERICA, THEY LIKENED THE FAILURE TO A CHIPPED WINDSHIELD. DURING COMMON, EVERYDAY, FREEWAY DRIVING, THE DAMAGE SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS A CHIPPED WINDSHIELD. THE WINDSHIELD IS A PROTECTIVE DEVICE, AND THEREFORE DEFLECTING PEBBLES AND OTHER ROAD HAZARDS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT'S DESIGNED FOR. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. IMAGINE, PEBBLES ACTUALLY HITTING A MOVING VEHICLE A FEW INCHES OFF THE GROUND--AS IF THAT'S AVOIDABLE! MY QUESTION IS, DID HONDA FORGET THAT PEOPLE TEND TO USE THEIR CARS ON ROADS?? OR DID THEY SIMPLY FORGET WHAT ROADS ARE MADE OF? I COULD GO TO HONDA'S SERVICE DEPT TOMORROW AND HAVE THE [XXX] THING FIXED, DRIVE AWAY AND THE SAME PROBLEM COULD HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. AS FOR MY CURRENT PROBLEM, I NOTICED SOMETIME IN LATE MARCH OF 2011 THAT MY A/C, YET AGAIN, NO LONGER WORKS FOR THE SAME REASON PREVIOUSLY STATED. I'VE BEEN OUT OF WORK FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX THIS ON MY OWN. I ALREADY PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR THE 1ST TIME. I CANNOT DO IT AGAIN. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND THE TEMPERATURE IS ON THE RISE, AND WITH SUMMER AROUND THE CORNER IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. I CAN'T GO TO INTERVIEWS DRENCHED IN SWEAT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THEY BEGAN FEELING A VIBRATION AND HEARD A ROARING NOISE IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM CAME FROM A COMBINATION OF THE TIRES AND REAR WHEELS GEOMETRY DISPLACEMENT. THE FAILURE CAUSED INNER EDGE WEAR ON THE TIRES, VIBRATION AND A ROARING NOISE. THE CONTACT SPOKE TO THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT THE COMPONENT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE WHEN THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE BATTERY CABLES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED DUE TO THE BATTERY LEAKING ACID. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE BATTERY CABLES WERE ATTACHED TO A WIRING HARNESS AND THE ENTIRE HARNESS WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIRS AND THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 34 MPH AS THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL CLUNKING NOISE. THE CONTACT SUDDENLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. HE SUSTAINED CRACKED RIBS AND SEVERAL BRUISES AS A RESULT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE CRASH. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO VIBRATE. ALSO, A LOUD TICKING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IN MARCH OF 2010, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V399000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK: WHEEL SPEED SENSOR); HOWEVER THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETECT A MALFUNCTION. THE DEALER REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OF THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WHEEL BEARING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
HAVE HAD ALL SERVICES PERFORMED AT REGULAR INTERVALS. HAD NOTICED A GROWLING/HUMMING/HARMONIC HOWL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. HAD MY MECHANIC (NON-HONDA) CHECK OUT FRONT END, HAD TRANSAXLE SERVICED, NEW TIRES BALANCED, ETC. SAID CV JOINTS, BEARINGS, EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT & MUST BE "NOISY" TIRES. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS NOISE SEEMS TO GET WORSE & DIDN'T WANT TO REPLACE BRAND NEW TIRES. SCHEDULED ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WHERE MECHANIC FOUND THAT REAR AXLE IS CAMBERED IN CAUSING UNEVEN TIRE WEAR AND (NOW) REALLY LOUD HOWL (CAN'T CARRY ON A CONVERSATION IN BACK SEAT).. ALSO NOTICE SOME "SWAY" AT TIMES. MY MECHANIC STATED A "REPAIR KIT" TO FIX THE CONTROL ARM ISSUE WOULD COST ABOUT $750 INSTALLED BUT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET. I THEN STARTED INTERNET RESEARCH & FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM (SB 08-001), HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME BUT NO OWNER NOTIFICATION. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING MY HONDA DEALER THAT SOLD ME THE CAR, BUT DON'T EXPECT MUCH OF A RESPONSE SINCE NO RECALL HAS (YET) BEEN ISSUED. I CONSIDER THE VEHICLE DANGEROUS AT THIS POINT AND WILL HAVE TO USE AN ALTERNATE VEHICLE FOR A NECESSARY TRIP OUT OF TOWN. *TR
ENGINE STOPPED UNEXPECTEDLY WITH NO PRIOR SIGNS OF TROUBLE WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH ON RESIDENTIAL STREET. CAR TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. FOUND BOLT WHICH HOLDS ENGINE ACCESSORY BELT TENSIONER IN PLACE HAD FAILED. REPLACED TENSIONER AND BOLT WITH NEW HONDA PARTS. FIVE MONTHS LATER SAME BOLT AGAIN UNEXPECTEDLY BROKE RESULTING IN ENGINE STOPPAGE AGAIN FORTUNATELY AT 25 MPH IN LIGHT TRAFFIC. CAR WAS TOWED AND REPAIRED. BOTH REPAIRS USED HONDA REPLACEMENT PARTS. I HAVE BOTH BOLTS. BOLTS ARE NOT SUPPOSE TO BREAK UNDER THESE CONDITIONS. FORTUNATELY FAILURE DID NOT HAPPEN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR HIGH SPEED BUT THEY COULD HAVE. *TR
PAINT ON THE ROOF OF THE CAR IS PEELING OFF ON BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC HAS FLIP VISOR ISSUES. I'VE REPLACED MINE MULTIPLE TIMES AND IT CONTINUES TO BREAK. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT CONSTANTLY DROPS AND GETS IN THE WAY OF MY VISIBILITY OF THE ROAD. *TR
WHEN MY BOYFRIEND TOOK THE CAR IN FOR 30,000 MILE SERVICE HE MENTIONED THAT THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW. HONDA CLAIMED THERE WAS NO LEAKS. AT 46,980 MILES THEY DETERMINED POWER STEERING RACK HAD INTERNAL LEAK CAUSING LOW FLUID AND DAMAGE TO PUMP. HONDA WOULD NOT CONFESS TO THE POWER STEERING BEING FAULTY AND REFUSED TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF RACK AND PINION AND PUMP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL EXHIBITED AN UNUSUAL GRINDING NOISE AND BECAME INCREASINGLY STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER WITHOUT WARNING. WITHIN FIVE MINUTES OF THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS SMOKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE TENSIONER PIVOT BOLT HAD FRACTURED AND ENTERED THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SMOKE AND THE STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,500. UPDATED 12/14/11 *CN
2006 HONDA CIVIC LX OVERLY ACIDIC BATTERY THAT CAUSED A SMALL FIRE AND DAMAGE TO THE POSITIVE CABLE RESULTING IN A $500 REPLACEMENT.. I THINK THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT CABLE DUE TO AN INFERIOR DESIGN. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID EXPERIENCES FREQUENT, SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AT RANDOM TIMES DUE TO BATTERY RE-CALIBRATIONS WHICH A) PREVENT ELECTRIC MOTOR ASSIST AND B) USE ENGINE POWER FOR CHARGING RESULTING IN A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER FOR ACCELERATING FROM STOP, ENTERING FREEWAYS OR CLIMBING HILLS. THE HONDA IMA SYSTEM (INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST) USES AN ELECTRIC MOTOR TO AUGMENT THE SMALL 1.3L ENGINE. BECAUSE THE ELECTRIC MOTOR IS LOCKED OUT DURING BATTERY RECALIBRATIONS, THERE IS A NOTICEABLE 20% LOSS OF POWER FOR ACCELERATION. WHEN THE GASOLINE ENGINE IS ALSO BEING TAXED WITH GENERATING ELECTRIC POWER FOR BATTERY RECALIBRATION, THE TOTAL LOSS OF POWER IS VERY SIGNIFICANT AND RESULTS IN AN ALREADY SLOW CAR (0-60 IN 13.5 SECONDS) BECOMING DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO CROSS INTERSECTIONS OR MERGE INTO FREEWAY TRAFFIC. MY RESEARCH SUGGESTS THAT THIS PROBLEM STEMS FROM PREMATURE DEGRADATION OF THE HYBRID BATTERY PACK. *TR
YESTERDAY 01/03/11 I WAS TOLD BY A REPAIR SPECIALIST FROM THE MISSION VALLEY HONDA DEALERSHIP IN SAN DIEGO CA THAT MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX WITH APPROXIMATELY 50,000 MILES HAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. I'VE DONE INTERNET RESEARCH AND IT APPEARS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF OTHERS THAT HAVE HAD THIS SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THEIR HONDA CIVICS YEARS 2006 THRU 2008. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE AND SAFETY CONCERN! MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR AROUND WITH OUR 4 MONTH YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. NOW, I'LL BE DRIVING IT AS I'M NOT FEELING SAFE ABOUT HER DRIVING IT. THE DEALERSHIP IS REPLACING THE ENGINE FOR FREE BUT THEY ARE NOT GIVING ME A RENTAL CAR AS THEY STATE THEY DON'T HAVE ANY. WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP HONDA IS GIVING US CONSUMERS WITH THESE DEFECTIVE CARS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY WAS RAPIDLY DISCHARGING AND FAILED TO CHARGE FULLY, CAUSING THE GAS MOTOR TO RUN LONGER. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE A SOFTWARE UPGRADE PERFORMED. THE CONTACT DID NOT INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,300 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000. UPDATED 02/10/11 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE DID INFORM THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE AND A WARRANTY CLAIM WAS MADE TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS GIVEN THE HONDA SOFTWARE UPGRADE BY THE LOCAL DEALER. SINCE THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE, THE MPG CONTINUES IN THE 30 MPG RANGE, DOWN FROM THE PRE-FAILURE MPG OF 42 MPG. CURRENT, POST-UPGRADE IS MEASURED OVER THE LAST 200 MILES BY THE VEHICLES THE ON-BOARD MPG DEVICE. THE BATTERY CONTINUES TO DISCHARGE RAPIDLY, THE RPM IDLE INCREASES FROM ABOUT 750 TO 1500. THE VEHICLE USES THE STARTER MOTOR INSTEAD OF THE IMA BATTERY. UPDATED 04/21/11
OUR 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX AUTOMATIC HAD THE BATTERY DIE ON US WHILE THE KEY WAS STILL IN THE IGNITION AND APPARENTLY THIS COMBO IS A SURE FIRE WAY OF DESTROYING THE ABS MODULATOR WHICH HONDA CHARGES $900 TO REPAIR. THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD HONDA PROBLEM WHICH WAS REVEALED ONCE I STARTED SEARCHING FOR WHAT THE LIGHTS ON OUR DASH MEANT. MORE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM CAN BE FOUND HERE. I HAVE A 2006 CIVIC AND THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS ARE DEFECTIVE RESULTING IN PREMATURE TIRE WEAR AND THE REAR OF THE CAR SWAYING ESPECIALLY IN THE SNOW. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AT 30,000 AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AT 60,000. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN RELEASED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, BUT WHEN I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE CONTROL ARMS WERE DEFECTIVE AND WOULD NEED TO BE COVERED AT MY COST OF $455.00. I WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE NEW TIRES AT THIS TIME, BUT DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE THEM AT 90,000 MILES. THIS PROBLEM IS NOT ONLY COSTLY TO THE OWNERS OF 2006-2007 CIVICS, BUT IS ALSO DANGEROUS. *TR
BATTERY BEGAN PERFORMING WHAT IS KNOW AS A CALIBRATION WHERE ALL MOTOR ASSIST CEASES AND THE BATTERY RECHARGES. ONCE IN A WHILE THIS IS OKAY HOWEVER IT GRADUALLY GOT MORE AND MORE FREQUENT TO THE POINT IT BECAME A DAILY ROUTINE OR EVEN OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES WITHIN THE DAY. ONE COLD MORNING THE IMA (BATTERY LIGHT) CAME ON. AFTER TAKING THE CAR INTO HONDA, THEY PERFORMED 6 SOFTWARE UPDATES. SINCE THAT TIME CALIBRATIONS HAVE INCREASED IN FREQUENCY. THE BATTERY WILL NOW CALIBRATE AFTER SITTING FOR AS LITTLE AS 1 HOUR AND WILL OFTEN CALIBRATE SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN A SINGLE COMMUTE. AT ONE POINT OVER THE COURSE OF THE DAY, ABOUT 80 MILES, THERE WERE 5 CALIBRATIONS. A FEW DAYS LATER THE CAR PERFORMED 4 CALIBRATIONS IN A 20 MILE STRETCH. THE IMA LIGHT HAS NOT CAME BACK ON AT THIS POINT BUT I DID TAKE THE CAR TO HONDA. THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE CONDITION. AT THIS TIME NOTHING HAS BECOME OF THE CALIBRATIONS. WHILE THEY HAVE BEEN MERELY ANNOYING I AM CONCERNED THAT THEY POSE A HIGH SAFETY RISK AS SHOULD THE CALIBRATION COME AT THE BEGINNING OR IN THE MIDDLE OF A HEAVY ACCELERATION, THE CAR WILL LOOSE SIGNIFICANT POWER AND CAN POTENTIALLY CAUSE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION THAT COULD EASILY RESULT IN A COLLISION.(WHEN THE BATTERY CALIBRATES, GETTING THE CAR TO ACCELERATE IS LIKE PUSHING A FREIGHT TRAIN). *TR
BOTH VISORS SPLIT OPEN AND WILL NOT STAY UP. I CANNOT USE THEM TO BLOCK THE SUN AND HAVE TO DUCK UNDER THEM TO VIEW THE ROAD. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE! *TR
THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE SERPENTINE BELT TENSION IDLER PULLEY HAS FAILED TWICE ON MY VEHICLE. IT'S A FATIGUE FAILURE FROM BOLT BENDING LOAD; A DESIGN FAILURE. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT BOTH FAILURES OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS ON SIDE STREETS. IF THIS OCCURRED AT SPEED WHERE I COULD NOT PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY, I COULD HAVE BEEN IN SEVERE DANGER WITH LOSS OF POWER, ENGINE SEIZING AND A POSSIBLE FIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC STOP BUT THE VEHICLE WAS UNRESPONSIVE. THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BURNING ODOR COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT THERE WAS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE. THE TECHNICIAN BURNISHED THE START CLUTCH AND REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
I HAVE A HONDA CIVIC 4DR SEDAN 2006 PURCHASED IN NOV 2005, IT CURRENTLY HAS AROUND 43800 MILES. WHEN I TURN ON THE HEATER, I CAN SMELL STRONG BURNING ANTIFREEZE/COOLANT AND SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. FINALLY I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AFTER LIVING WITH THE PROBLEM FOR 3 DAYS AND HE SAID I HAD A ENGINE LEAKING COOLANT WITH A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AND HONDA IS READY TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BLOCK AS THE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. I AM WORRIED IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. PLEASE ASK HONDA TO ISSUE A OFFICIAL RECALL NOTICE SO THAT MY ENGINE IS COVERED FOR ATLEAST THAT PARTICULAR PROBLEM, SO THAT I DON'T HAVE TO PAY IF THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN ONCE MY WARRANTY IS DONE. *TR

THE DEALER OFFERED TO COVER FIFTY PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COSTS AND THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.

CAR STOPPED AT STOP SIGN AT THE TOP OF A VERY STEEP HILL. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAPPENED, BOTH TIMES WERE AFTER THE AUGUST 2010 IMA RECALL BY HONDA. HONDA DEALER SAID THAT THERE IS NO SOLUTION FROM HONDA EVER SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. I HOPE THAT YOU CAN URGE HONDA TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN SAN FRANCISCO WITH ITS MANY STEEP HILLS AND IMPATIENT DRIVERS.
THE CAR LOSES POWER UPON ACCELERATION AND GOING UP A HILL FROM A COMPLETE STANDSTILL. THE CAR AT TIMES CAN NOT CLIMB UP A HILL. THIS CAUSES A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE DISCUSSED THIS HONDA AND I WAS TOLD THAT "GIVEN THAT THERE WAS NOT A COMPUTER RECORD IN THE MEMORY THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM. ON THE FREEWAY THE ENGINE REVS UPON ACCELERATION WITHOUT ANY INCREASE IN SPEED. I THINK THE BATTERY ELECTRICAL ASSIST SYSTEM IS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, HONDA ADDED A COMPUTER PATCH TO THE CAR THAT SLOWED DOWN THE ELECTRIC ENGINE ASSIST AND COMPRIMISED THE POWER AND ACCELERATION.
OVER THE LAST YEAR I HAVE NOTICE REDUCED SURGE POWER WHEN I HIT THE ACCELERATOR FOR WHEN I NEED EXTRA, SHORT TERM SPEED (E.G., MERGING ONTO A HIGHWAY). WHEN I FLOOR THE GAS PEDAL, I DO NOT GET ANY "ASSIST" FROM MY IMA (HYBRID MOTOR), AS VIEWED BY THE IMA METER ON MY DASH AND FELT IN TERMS OF ACTUAL INCREASE IN POWER/SPEED. I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX SEDAN. I HAVE EXPERIENCED RAPID AND UNEVEN TIRE WEAR ON BOTH REAR TIRES. I ROTATED THE TIRES IN MARCH 2010 AND AT THAT TIME, THE WEAR WAS FAIRLY EVEN ON ALL FOUR TIRES WITH ABOUT 50% OF THE TREAD LEFT. I PURCHASED THE TIRES IN AUGUST OF 08. DURING THE WINTER MONTHS I USE SNOW TIRES. THE TIRES HAVE ABOUT 25,000 TO 30,000 MILES ON THEM. SINCE MARCH 2010, I'VE DRIVEN THE CAR ABOUT 10,000 MILES. NOW THE REAR LEFT TIRE IS SHOWING EXTREME WEAR ON THE INSIDE WITH UNEVEN WAVE PATTERNS AND THE REAR RIGHT TIRE IS WARN ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE STEEL BELTS. I FOUND OUT BECAUSE MY CAR FAILED INSPECTION. I'VE ALSO NOTICED A LOUD ROAR COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE ROAR IN JULY AND TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION AND I JUST DON'T ROTATE MY TIRES ENOUGH, EVEN AFTER I EXPLAINED THAT I ROTATE MY TIRES TWICE A YEAR AND JUST ROTATED THEM THAT PREVIOUS MARCH! THE MECHANIC THAT DID THE INSPECTION (WHO ALSO SOLD ME THE TIRES) SAID THAT THERE IS NO WAY THAT SUCH A SEVER WEAR PATTERN COULD DEVELOP UNLESS THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE REAR SUSPENSION. I CALLED THE HONDA DEALER AGAIN WHILE AT THE STATE INSPECTION STATION AND TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM AND TRIED TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE REAR SUSPENSION LOOKED AT. THEY AGAIN TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SUSPENSION AND THAT THE WEAR WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE I DIDN'T ROTATE THE TIRES ENOUGH. THEN THE DEALER TRIED TO SELL ME A SET OF TIRES OVER THE PHONE! MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THE REAR TIRE WEAR PRESENTS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND THAT THE RIGHT TIRE ESPECIALLY, COULD BLOW AT ANY TIME. IT APPEARS THAT HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AS IT IS DESCRIBED IN THEIR SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO TO GET THEM TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE INTERMITTENTLY. THE ENGINE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED A BROKEN AUTO TENSIONER PIVOT BOLT; HOWEVER, THE BOLT DID NOT HOLD THE PIVOT ARM AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE THREAD WITHIN THE BOLTS WAS DAMAGED. A PRIVATE MECHANIC INSTALLED HELI-COL IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE THREADS IN THE ENGINE BLOCK; HOWEVER, THE BOLT SLIPPED AGAIN. BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SINCE THE HELI-COL WAS INSTALLED BY A PRIVATE MECHANIC IT VOIDED ANY WARRANTY COVERAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,100. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,050.
2006 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISOR BROKEN (AGAIN). THIS IS THE THIRD TIME MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISOR HAS BROKEN. THE FIRST TIME IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING THE CAR. THE SECOND TIME THE CAR WAS 2K MILES OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE IT THAT ONE LAST TIME. NOW IT IS BROKEN AGAIN! IF YOU GOOGLE "HONDA CIVIC SUN VISOR" YOU WILL FIND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE SUN VISOR SPLITS IN HALF AND CAN NO LONGER BE PUT UP (STORED POSITION). WHEN THE PLASTIC FRAME OF THE VISOR SPLITS, THE VISOR HANGS STRAIGHT DOWN BLOCKING YOUR VISION WHEN DRIVING. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY VISION IS CONSTANTLY BLOCKED AND I FIND MYSELF BENDING DOWN WHILE DRIVING TO SEE IF TRAFFIC LIGHTS ARE GREEN OR RED. IT CAN ALSO BLOCK MY VIEW OF A PEDESTRIAN STEPPING OFF OF THE CURB INTO THE CROSSWALK. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND HONDA DOESN'T WANT TO REPLACE THESE AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE A TSB ON IT. IN ADDITION TO MY VIEW OF THE ROAD BEING BLOCKED BY THIS PLASTIC FRAMED SUN VISOR, I'M ALSO AFRAID IF I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, MY FACE OR A PASSENGERS COULD HIT THE SUN VISOR AND THE VISOR COULD CAUSE MAJOR TRAUMA TO A HUMAN. *TR

2006 HONDA CIVIC HAD 35,000 CHECKUP ON AUG 23,2010 - ON SEPT 30 THE CAR REFUSED TO START AFTER GROCERY SHOPPING - OCT 1 LOCAL DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE BATTERY NEED REPLACING AT A COST OF $1040, INCLUDING TOWING. I WAS TOLD THAT NO THE BATTERY PROBLEM SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN FOUND ON 8/23 AND THAT IT COULD HAPPEN OVERNIGHT - THAT THERE IS NO WAY TO DETERMINE WHEN YOUR CAR WILL DIE! THE BATTERY IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SO NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY UNTIL THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED! THE OUTRAGEOUS PRICE FOR REPLACING A BATTERY COSTING $79 - $135 IS RELATED TO THE COST OF REPLACING THE NECESSARY HARNESS WHICH IS BURNED THROUGH BY THE BATTERY ACID. I THINK THIS "DESIGN FLAW" - SO IDENTIFIED, AS ABOVE INFORMATION WAS, BY THE LOCAL SERVICE CONSULTANT - NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED AND OWNERS WARNED. SINCE MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID RECEIVED THE BATTERY SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPGRADE IN LATE 2010, THE CAR HAS HAD GREATLY REDUCED AVAILABLE POWER AND ACCELERATION. THE FUEL EFFICIENCY HAS REDUCED BY ~10 MPG, WHICH IS INFURIATING, BUT THERE IS A LARGER SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED BATTERY POWER AVAILABLE FOR ACCELERATION. INTERMITTENTLY, BUT REPEATEDLY, WHEN ACCELERATING, ESPECIALLY FROM A STOP TO TURN LEFT THROUGH A GAP IN TRAFFIC OR TO MERGE ON A FREEWAY FROM THE ENTRANCE RAMP, A DANGEROUS SITUATION HAS OCCURRED BECAUSE THE ENGINE-BATTERY COMBINATION DOES NOT SUPPLY ADEQUATE POWER AND ACCELERATION. I WAS NEARLY SIDE-SWIPED THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE BATTERY UPDATE WHEN I WAS CAUGHT BY SURPRISE AT THE UTTER LACK OF POWER AS I TRIED TO TURN INTO TRAFFIC. MY HONDA DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN UNRESPONSIVE MY COMPLAINTS AND REQUESTS TO REVERT THE SOFTWARE TO THE OLD VERSION, WITH WHICH MY CAR WORKED FINE. *TR
