2006 HONDA CIVIC EX 4 DOOR SEDAN. PROBLEM WITH THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS: I WAS DRIVING THE CAR, AND NOTICED SUDDENLY THAT THE TIRES START MAKING HORRIBLE NOISES, ALMOST SOUNDING AS IF I HAD A FLAT TIRE. THE EFFECT ON DRIVING WAS VERY BAD- CONTROL AND STEERING WERE EFFECTED. I CHECKED THE TIRES, BUT DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING SPECIFIC EXCEPT FOR WEAR ISSUES. TAKING IT IN TO HONDA, THEY SAID THAT "NO ONE COULD FIX THE PROBLEM EXCEPT FOR HONDA". THEY SAID THAT A "NEW, UPDATED PART" HAD BEEN RELEASED A YEAR AND A HALF AGO (WHEN MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY). THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED, SO THE PROBLEM WAS WELL KNOWN. THEY STILL HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS DANGER TO DRIVER SAFETY. *TR
MY HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IMA BATTERY (NOT THE REGULAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BUT THE INTEGRATED MOTOR) WILL NOT RETAIN CHARGE. WHEN DRIVING BEGINS, THE MOTOR ASSIST BATTERY QUICKLY (WITHIN 5 MILES) WILL DROP TO ZERO CHARGE LEAVING THE CAR WITH ABSOLUTELY NO ACCELERATION POWER. AT TIMES IT IS UNKNOWN IF THE BATTERY IS DEPLETED UNTIL IT IS NECESSARY TO PUT MY FOOT TO THE FLOOR TO AVOID A PROBLEM ON THE ROAD. AT THAT POINT, THE BATTERY REFUSES TO RESPOND. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE NEEDED TO ACCELERATE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND. HONDA HAS LOOKED AT MY CAR AND HAS DECIDED THAT "WITHOUT THE IMA LIGHT COMING ON, THERE IS NO WAY TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM," THIS PROBLEM OCCURS ALMOST EVERY DAY I DRIVE THE CAR (DOCUMENTED EVERY DAY FOR 2 MONTHS.) I HAVE NEARLY BEEN HIT 3 TIMES, ONCE WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING EXCEPT "SOFTWARE UPDATES" AND REFUSES TO "THROW PARTS" (DIRECT HONDA QUOTE) AT THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT WAS STOPPED AT A SERVICE STATION WHEN HE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT FURTHER INVESTIGATED THE FAILURE AND FOUND THERE WAS FLUID ON THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE ENGINE WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO COVER FIFTY PERCENT OF REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
DEFECTIVE SUN VISOR ON 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX. BROKE AFTER NORMAL USE. AFTER BREAK, IT HANGS DOWN LOOSELY AND IMPAIRS THE DRIVER'S VISION. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC SI VISORS HAVE FALLEN OFF RIGHT IN MY FACE WHILE DRIVING, CAUSING A REACTION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THEY WERE POORLY MADE AS THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR HAS ALSO FALLEN COMPLETELY OFF. LUCKILY I DIDN'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT BUT I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL FOR MANY PEOPLE. I HAVE READ THAT WHEN THEIR IS HIGH HEAT, IT CAN CAUSE THIS PROBLEM AND IT JUST SO HAPPENS THAT WE'VE EXPERIENCED 90+ HEAT FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS WHEN THIS HAPPENED. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. BOTH OF MY SUN VISORS HAVE CRACKED ALONG THE SEEMS. THIS CAUSES THE SUN VISOR TO NOT GO UP. THE SUN VISOR HANGS IN MY LINE OF VISION, IT WILL NOT GO ALL THE WAY UP OR ALL THE WAY DOWN. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

SUN VISORS, DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS, FAIL TO STAY IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE VISORS IN THE DOWN POSITION BLOCK THE DRIVERS VISION WHICH IMPAIR THE VISIBILITY OF SIGHT. THIS IMPAIRMENT HAS ALMOST LEAD TO SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2006- 2007 CIVICS BASED ON INTERNET RESEARCH. AMERICAN HONDA AND THE LOCAL DEALER REFUSES TO CORRECT THIS DESIGN DEFECT. THE VISORS ARE PLASTIC. THE TWO HALVES, UPPER AND LOWER, ARE GLUED TOGETHER. THE INTERIOR MECHANISM THAT RETAINS THE VISOR IN THE UP POSITION IS METAL. THE METAL HAS A HIGHER YIELD STRENGTH THAN THE PLASTIC AND BREAKS THE PLASTIC AT THE POINT WHERE IT IS GLUED TOGETHER. *TR
SAFETY ISSUE SUN VISOR EXPLODES IMPEDES VISIONS. APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON 8TH GENERATION HONDA CIVICS. I JUST WANT TO ADD MY NAME TO THE LIST. I OWN 2006 HONDA CIVIC. BOTH SUNVISORS EXPLODED OR BROKE. I WAS ADVISED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON THE VEHICLE. HONDA HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE AT THIS TIME. *TR
I OWN A 2006 HONDA CIVIC SI, WHICH I PURCHASED NEW FROM DUBLIN HONDA IN DUBILN, CA IN 2006. MY CAR HAS ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM SHIFTING FROM 2ND GEAR TO 3RD GEAR, EVEN WHEN IT WAS BRAND NEW. IT WOULD SOMETIMES "POP" OUT OF GEAR UNLESS I HELD THE SHIFTER FOR A MOMENT AFTER SHIFTING. THE CAR NOW HAS 67500 MILES ON IT, AND TWO WEEKS AGO, THE CLUTCH/TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY STOPPED WORKING. I BROUGHT IT TO SUNNYVALE HONDA, WHO WANTED TO CHARGE ME NEARLY $1900 TO REPAIR THE CLUTCH. I DECLINED, INSTEAD I BROUGHT IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO CHARGED ME $1140. THE MECHANIC SHOWED ME THAT THE PRESSURE PLATE IN THE CLUTCH HAD SIMPLY SNAPPED IN HALF, WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE. HOWEVER, AS SOON AS I GOT THE CAR BACK, IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD ALSO BEEN BADLY DAMAGED AS A RESULT, AND NOW THE TRANSMISSION GRINDS EVERY TIME I TRY TO PUT THE CAR INTO 4TH GEAR. AS A RESULT, I HAD TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC, WHO ESTIMATES IT MAY COST $2000 OR MORE TO REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION. I FEEL THAT THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A CAR WITH 67,500 MILES ON IT, AND IT IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT THE PRESSURE PLATE SNAPPED. THIS PARTICULAR CAR HAS A HISTORY OF NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING A DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION, WHICH HONDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. CAR HAS BEEN MAINTAINED PROPERLY; CRACK DISCOVERED BY DEALER DURING COURSE OF OIL CHANGE; NO INDICATION OF HOW LONG THE BLOCK HAS BEEN CRACKED SINCE NO ODOR, NO DISCERNIBLE COOLANT LEAK, OR OTHER OBVIOUS INDICATION OF LEAKING COOLANT. WHICH I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR CURRENTLY, AND EITHER WAY I FEEL LIKE IT WAS A FLAW IN THEIR DESIGN AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE MY SUN VISOR EVERY SUMMER WHEN ITS TOO HOT AND DECIDES TO FALL OFF! THE VISOR WAS DOWN AND WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE VISOR, IT FELL APART AND OBSCURED HIS VISION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE NEEDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE VISOR WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 41,000.
2006 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISORS SPLIT WHEN ADJUSTED IN HOT WEATHER. THEY THEN HANG DOWN TILL REPLACED, OBSTRUCTING VISION. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MINE 6 TIMES. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT TO DEALERS, YET THEY DON'T IMPROVE THE REPLACEMENT SUN VISORS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 40 MPH, THE DRIVERS SUN VISOR FELL INTO THE CONTACTS LINE OF VIEW. THE DEALER ADVISED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER THE REPAIR WOULD BE AT THE CONTACTS LIABILITY. THIS WAS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,020.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE BATTERY BEGAN TO LOSE POWER AND THE ACCELERATION WAS SLUGGISH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND WAS BECOMING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000. UPDATED 02/08/11*LJ THE CONSUME STATED THE HYBRID BATTERY BEGAN FREQUENTLY DISCHARGING AT LEAST ONCE A DAY IN EARLY JUNE 2010. THE FREQUENT DISCHARGING OF THE BATTERY RESULTED IN SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED LOSS OF ACCELERATION. THE CONSUMER OBTAINED THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE FROM HONDA IN LATE AUGUST 2010 AND IT DID NOT IMPROVE THE FUNCTIONING OF THE IMA BATTERY. THE IMA BATTERY CONTINUED TO DISCHARGE AT LEAST ONCE A DAY AND SOMETIMES THREE TIMES A DAY. UPDATED 04/29/11
THE WINDOW VISOR ON MY 2006 CIVIC SI HAS MELTED TWICE NOW AND IT POSSES A DRIVING HAZARD. THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT AFTER THE INSIDE PLASTIC IS HIT BY DIRECT SUNLIGHT THE ACTUAL PLASTIC CLIPS MELT AND THAT CAUSES THE VISOR TO SUDDENLY FLIP DOWN RIGHT INTO YOUR LINE OF VISION. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC AND HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SUN VISORS SPLITTING AND FALLING INTO A DOWN POSITION WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO PUT INTO AN UP POSITION AGAIN. THIS RESULTS IN AN IMPEDED VIEW OF MY DRIVING FIELD. WHEN I TRY TO MOVE IT TO THE SIDE WINDOW AND MAKE A TURN THE VISOR HITS ME IN THE HEAD CAUSING ANOTHER ISSUE WHILE DRIVING. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR I HAD TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPLACED (NOT SURE ABOUT THE PASSENGER SIDE), BUT IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. A YEAR AND A HALF AGO I NEEDED TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPLACED BUT IT WASN'T UNDER WARRANTY AND I DID NOT HAVE THE $65.00 TO PAY FOR IT. NOW I NEED THE PASSENGER SIDE REPLACED AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS SO LOOSE I HAVE TO PUSH IT UP FOR EVERY STOP LIGHT SO I CAN SEE IT. IT'S EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HOW IT FLOPS DOWN AND BLOCKS YOUR FIELD OF VIEW. I MADE A COMPLAINT WITH HONDA BUT THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING UNTIL THERE IS A RECALL ON THE PART. *TR

HOWEVER, THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN REQUIRED TO SEND THIS "SERVICE BULLETIN" TO ALL OWNERS, AND THEN THEY COULD HAVE THE OPTION TO CHANGE THE PART IF THEY HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING ISSUES OF RIDICULOUS EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HONDA IS HOPING... THAT MOST OF THE OWNERS OF THESE CARS WILL FIND OUT THERE IS A PROBLEM AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES... LIKE I DID... NICE HONDA... AFREAKINGP'RECIATE IT. I PURCHASED A USED(2ND OWNER) 2006 HONDA CIVIC IN JUNE 2010 WITH APPROX 60,000KM. WITH A FULL INSPECTION SERVICED BY HONDA AND A BRAND NEW SET OF TIRES(98% TREAD). SINCE THEN I HAVE ONLY PUT ON 25,000KM AND HAVE ALREADY TAKING MY CAR INTO THE SHOP ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS FOR SEVERVE "CUPPING" OR UNEVEN WEAR ON THE REAR TIRES, AFTER 25,000KM I HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED ANOTHER SET OF TIRES AND THOSE ONES TOO ARE BADLY "CUPPING". 2 SETS OF NEW TIRES IN UNDER 2 YEARS IS NOT RIGHT! I HAVE CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY SAID " THEY HAVEN'T HEARD OF PROBLEMS WITH HONDAS DOING THAT" AND SAID "THAT SINCE I HAD MY TIRES BOUGHT AND SERVICED AT A TIRE STORE, IT IS THEIR CONCERN!" THEY ARE NOT OWNING UP OR EVEN REGONIZING THE OBVIOUS DEFECT THAT THIS CAR HAS.THEY OFFERED TO FIX THE ISSUE FOR AN AMOUT OF $900? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON MAY 28, 2010 WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, SMOKE BEGAN TO RISE FROM THE HOOD. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND NOTICED FLUID LEAKING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED, CAUSING THE MOTOR TO CRACK; THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD BE PARTIALLY COVERED. DEALER TRIED REPAIR RECOMMENDED BY HONDA ENGINEER CONSISTING OF PLACING O-RINGS BETWEEN ENGINE AND MOUNT. THIS ELIMINATED THE NOISE. 1000 MILES LATER THE RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT BROKE AND ENGINE DROPPED IN FRAME. DEALER REPLACED RIGHT ENGINE MOUNT PER TSB BUT NOISE STILL EXISTS AND NOW HONDA IS STATING THAT THE NOISE IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND REFUSES TO REPAIR. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2006 HONDA CIVIC AND HAVE HAD ALL THE RECOMMENDED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. WITH MY LONG COMMUTE I'M UP TO 143,000 (HIGHWAY) MILES. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM HAVING THEIR "B13" SERVICE WHEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON; IT NEEDS A NEW ENGINE(!) THEY TOLD ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2006 CIVICS AND THAT DEALERSHIP HAS HANDLED "SEVERAL, ONE JUST THIS WEEK", AND THAT IT MANIFESTS ITSELF ARBITRARILY, "THE ENGINE IS FINE AND THEN IT JUST BREAKS". MOST CIVICS LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD ARE STILL UNDER WARRANTY (OR CLOSE ENOUGH) SO I IMAGINE THAT THESE PEOPLE HAVEN'T FELT THE NEED TO REPORT THIS. BUT EVEN WITH THEM MANAGING TO GET HONDA AMERICA TO PAY 25% OF THE COST I'LL STILL PAY OVER $3000 IN REPAIR COSTS. HONDAS ARE "SUPPOSED" TO BE VERY RELIABLE, SO HAVING A WELL-MAINTAINED ENGINE DIE AT LESS THAN 5 YEARS OLD FEELS LIKE I'VE BEEN CHEATED. BUT MORE SIGNIFICANTLY, IF HONDA KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM, I THINK THEY SHOULD TAKE MORE ACTION AND RESPONSIBILITY ABOUT FIXING IT. THE INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST SYSTEM FAILS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME I HAD PARKED THE CAR OVERNIGHT AND THE BATTERY CHARGE INDICATOR WAS NEAR THE TOP. WHEN I DROVE TO TOWN IN THE MORNING AND STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT ON A HILL, WHEN I ACCELERATED THERE WAS NO MOTOR ASSIST AND THE CAR WAS VERY UNDERPOWERED. THE BATTERY CHARGE INDICATOR SHOWED NO CHARGE. IT DOES CHARGE AGAIN TO NORMAL, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THIS MAY HAPPEN. I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IN ON A FREEWAY ON RAMP OR TWO LANE ROAD PASSING SITUATION.

THE AIR CONDITIONER ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC FAILED. SINCE I HAVE A 10-YR EXTENDED WARRANTY, I HAD MY HONDA DEALER DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM (COST $75). THEY TOLD ME THAT THE AC CONDENSER WAS DAMAGED DUE TO A ROCK/PEBBLE IMPACTING THE CONDENSER AND THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE PROBLEM. I HAD THEM REPLACE THE CONDENSER (COST: $782). IT TURNS OUT THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS DEFECT FOR THIS HONDA AND OTHERS GOING BACK TO 2003. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PROTECTION IN THE FRONT GRILLE THAT WOULD PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. THE DESIGN OF THIS HONDA WELCOMES DEBRIS TO COME THROUGH THE GRILLE! A SIMPLE $5.00 SCREEN ATTACHED TO THE GRILLE WOULD HAVE SAVED ME $856. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE. I NOW HAVE TO LOOK FOR MY OWN CUSTOM GRILLE TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. THE 2006 HONDA WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WITH THE OWNER DRIVING AND THE OWNERS SON IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THERE WAS A CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF THEM. THE OWNERS CAR WAS HIT FROM BEHIND AND PUSHED INTO THE FRONT CAR. NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. BOTH FRONT SEAT BELTS FAILED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO IMPACT THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE PASSENGER TO IMPACT THE DASHBOARD. BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER WENT TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND WERE DIAGNOSED WITH CHEST CONTUSIONS. THE SEAT BELTS REMAINED PULLED OUT (THEY DIDN'T RETRACT AFTER THE ACCIDENT). THE VEHICLE IS BEING REPAIRED AND THE OWNER HAS REQUESTED THAT ALL SEAT BELT PARTS BE TURNED OVER TO THE OWNER. *TR

THE CONTACT PLANNED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 26,500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 27,000.
2006 HONDA CIVIC. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEMS WITH WATER PUMP BOLTS *TGW WHEN THE MECHANIC STARTED THE VEHICLE, SPARKS WERE COMING FROM THE AREA OF THE WATER PUMP. WHEN HE CHECKED THE ENGINE AREA, IT WAS APPARENT THAT ONE OF THE THREE VISIBLE BOLTS HOLDING THE WATER PUMP IN PLACE HAD FALLEN OFF. THE SERPENTINE BELT ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY, THE MECHANIC REMOVED THE FAULTY WATER PUMP, HAVING DETERMINED IT HAD BEEN OUT OF ITS NORMAL SHAPE. HE FURTHER DETERMINED THAT THE TENSIONER ASSEMBLY HOLDING THE WATER PUMP IN PLACE WAS THE INCORRECT PART. IT WEIGHED 40 POUNDS, WHEN THE PROPER WEIGHT FOR THAT WATER PUMPS TENSIONER WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT 16 POUNDS. WHEN THE MECHANIC ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT PART, IT WAS IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL PART AND INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WOULD ONLY LAST 25,000-30,000 MILES UNTIL THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN. *JB UPDATED 06/08/10.*JB
