MY CAR IS 4 YEARS OLD AND APPROACHING 50,000 MILES. YESTERDAY AFTER WORK I HAD MADE A STOP ON THE WAY HOME AND WHEN I CAME OUT AND STARTED MY CAR IT WAS MAKING A HORRIBLE RACKET. IT WAS A LOUD RATTLING SOUND. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND SAW THE PULLEY ON THE WATER PUMP WOBBLING AROUND LIKE CRAZY. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT AT. TODAY THEY INFORMED ME THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE WATER PUMP COMPLETELY AND CHARGED ME $500 FOR IT. WHEN LOOKING ONLINE ABOUT THE ISSUE I FOUND THERE HAD BEEN A LIMITED RECALL FOR THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR BUT MY VIN DIDN'T FALL WITHIN THE AFFECTED RECALL RANGE. IS IT JUST COINCIDENCE THAT I HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS OTHERS WITH THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR OR SHOULD MY CAR HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL? *TR
BEGINNING IN APRIL OF 2010 MY SRS INDICATOR, AIRBAG LIGHT, WOULD COME ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING RANDOMLY. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THE DIAGNOSTIC THAT CAME UP WAS FOR A FAULTY SIDE AIRBAG. IT WILL COST ME $1150 TO FIX, FOR WHICH I DO NOT HAVE, AND THEY STATED FAULTY AIRBAGS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE NOT FIXED IT AND AM GOING TO TRY TO HAVE TO WARRANTY COVER THIS. MY CAR IS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC WITH ABOUT 59,600 MILES ON IT. *TR
THE VISORS IN THE CAR HAVE A METAL ROTATING PIECE IN BETWEEN TWO PLASTIC PIECES THAT CAUSE THE VISOR TO SNAP AFTER MINIMAL USE. MY DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR IS NOW COMPLETELY BROKEN, AS HAS HAPPENED TO MY FRIEND'S EXACT SAME CAR TOO. *TR
HONDA 2006 DEFECTIVE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS THAT CAUSES REAR TIRES TO WEAR ON THE INSIDE. HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001
I HAVE AROUND 95K MILES ON MY HONDA, THERE HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEMS TO DATE. I WAS DRIVING OUT OF TOWN, GOING UPHILL, WHEN MY ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. WE GOT A TOW TO THE HONDA DEALER ON SATURDAY 3/27/10, TODAY 3/29/10 THEY CALLED TO INFORM ME IT WAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK THAT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $5000 TO REPAIR (NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY). I BEGAN RESEARCHING ONLINE AND NOTICED I WAS NOT ALONE, I SAW HUNDREDS OF THREADS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME PROBLEM AND REFERENCING SERVICE BULLETIN 08-044. THE FACT THAT IT IS A WELL KNOWN, DOCUMENTED ISSUE AND NOT RECALLED IS OUTRAGEOUS! *CN
2006 HONDA CIVIC TIRES ARE CUPPING AND WEARING PREMATURELY. A LOUD PULSING NOISE IS COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR ALONG WITH A VIBRATION THAT CORRESPONDS WITH THE NOISE. LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM IN ACCORDANCE WITH SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001 DATED FEBRUARY 8, 2008. UNFORTUNATELY I HAD TO PAY FOR THE NEW TIRES SINCE IT IS ONLY A SERVICE BULLETIN AND NOT A RECALL.
2006 HONDA CIVIC HANDLES TERRIBLE IN ANY WEATHER CONDITIONS. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES ON MY VEHICLE AND HAVE JUST PURCHASED MY FOUTH SET OF TIRES. HONDA HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN TO FIX UPPER CONTROL ARMS ON THE REAR END. WHICH WAS NEARLY IMPOSSABLE TO DISCOVER, AND MOST HONDA OWNERS PROBABLY ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS. HOWEVER EVEN AFTER I HAD THIS PART FIXED MY TIRES HAVE STILL WORN OUT AS QUICKLY AND UNEVENLY AS EVER. MOST AMERICANS CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE TIRES EVERY 20,000 MILES AND HONDA CONTINUES TO STATE THAT IT IS A TIRE ISSUE AND NOT THERE PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD DIFFERENT BRANDS OF TIRES ON MY VEHICLE AND THE SAME THING CONTINUES TO HAPPEN.
WAS AT A STOP SIGN ON SUNDAY 5PM ON DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW I WENT TO CLOSE THE WINDOW THE WINDOW SHOT STRAIGHT UP OFF THE TRACK I WAS ABLE TO CATCH IT BEFORE IT HIT GROUND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW IS NOW UNUSABLE. *DT

I AM UNCERTAIN THIS IS THE PROPER FORUM FOR MY COMPLAINT BUT IT HAS TO DO WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC. I GO THROUGH FRONT BRAKE PADS IN LESS THAN 15K MILES AND MY REAR BRAKES HAVE HARDLY BEEN TOUCHED. SOON, AT JUST OVER 40K I WILL BE REPLACING PADS A 3RD TIME AND ROTORS TOO. ON MY PRIOR CAR, A 1991 HONDA ACCORD THAT I PUT 325K MILES ON, I REPLACED PADS ABOUT EVERY 40K MILES. THIS IS A BIGGER HEAVIER CAR YET THE BRAKES LASTED LONGER AND AS I GROW OLDER I THINK MY DRIVING HAS BECOME MORE PATIENT AND LESS AGGRESSIVE SO I WOULD EXPECT MY BRAKES TO LAST THE SAME OR LONGER ON A SMALLER LIGHTER CAR. I THINK MY CURRENT CIVIC BRAKING SYSTEM IS OVER ZEALOUS AND BURNING THROUGH BRAKE PADS TOO FAST. MY MIDAS MECHANIC SURE THINKS SO BUT SAID I WOULD NEVER BE ABLE TO PROVE IT ON MY OWN. I THOUGHT IT WAS WORTH BRINGING TO YOUR ATTENTION. THE SUN VISORS BEGIN SEPARATING, DANGLING AND INTEFERE WITH FIELD OF VISION DURING NORMAL TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. DEALERSHIP REPLACED MY VISORS THREE TIMES PRIOR TO WARRANTY EXPIRATION AND NOW THEY ARE NO LONGER WILLING TO DO IT. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IS BLOCKS MY FIELD OF VISION. *TR
THE PAINT IS SEVERELY COMING OFF AND HAS BEEN FOR YEARS. AND I HAVE CALLED HONDA SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY REFUSE TO HELP. *JS
I HAVE 89,000 MILES ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE OTHER DAY I WAS DRIVING IT TO WORK AND IT OVERHEATED. WHEN I POPPED THE HOOD, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WASN'T ANY ANTIFREEZE IN IT. I HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY LEAKING, AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING OUT A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. WHILE MY CAR IS HIGH MILEAGE, IT IS ALSO ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD, SO IT SHOULDN'T BE HAVING ISSUES THIS SERIOUS SO SOON. *TR
RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM GRANDDAUGHTER ON HER WAY HOME TO PICK ME UP. SHE STATED SHE WAS NOT SPEEDING AND 2 OR 3 MINUTES LATER HER HONDA CIVIC WAS INVOLVED IN A HIGH SPEED SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH WHICH KILLED BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC 4DR LX AT. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, I HAVE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ENGINE ACCELERATION *WHILE BRAKING*. THE FIRST TIME, I WAS EXITING A HIGHWAY AND HAD COME TO A STOP WHILE I WAITED TO MERGE ONTO A THOROUGHFARE; MY ENGINE RPM SUDDENLY INCREASED TO 1500 OR SO, AND I HAD TO MAINTAIN INCREASED PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE OTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED TODAY: I WAS ALSO AT A STOP IN A LINE OF CARS WAITING TO PAY IN ORDER TO LEAVE A GARAGE. I INADVERTENTLY LESSENED THE PRESSURE MY RIGHT FOOT WAS EXERTING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND THE CAR ENGINE STARTED TO ACCELERATE (NOT JUST LURCH FORWARD ASSOCIATED WITH LIGHTER BRAKE PRESSURE), SO I HAD TO HOLD DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH A GREAT DEAL OF FORCE, AND THE ENGINE RPM RETURNED TO IDLE SPEED. IN NO WAY DID MY FOOT TOUCH THE ACCELERATOR IN EITHER OF THESE INSTANCES. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID ENGINE BLEW UP A WEEK AGO - FEB. 11 2008. WITHOUT INDICATION, THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. IT IS PASSED FACTORY WARRANTY WHICH IS 60K MILES OF 5 YEARS. THE CAR HAS 78K MILES ON IT AND IT WAS WELL MAINTAINED. THE ORIGINAL OWNER WAS A RENTAL CO AND THEY MAINTAINED IT WELL. IT WAS BOUGHT BY A BROKER WHO PERFORMED NORMAL MAINTENANCE ON IT - OIL CHANGE, AIR FILTER, BRAKES, TRANSMISSION FLUID AND NEW BATTERY BEFORE SELLING IT TO ME. I PERFORMED REGULAR MAINTENANCE AS WELL. I TOOK IT TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALER AFTER IT BROKE AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT CONCLUDE WHAT CAUSED IT, BUT THE RESULT WAS 4 BROKEN SPARK PLUGS AND A CRACKED NO. 2 PISTON. HONDA OF AMERICA OPENED A CASE AND CLOSED IT BECAUSE 1. IT WAS USED, 2. EXPIRED WARRANTY AND 3. IT WAS NOT MAINTAINED AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATED 60 MPH HE HEARD A NOISE AND SMELLED AN UNUSUAL ODOR IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ALSO BEGAN TO MOVE SLOWLY AND LOST POWER BEFORE IT EXPLODED. HONDA OF NORTH AMERICA OPENED AND CLOSED A CASE REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE DRIVER STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS AT A LOCAL HONDA DEALER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
2006 HONDA CIVIC VISOR BROKE, DRIVER SIDE. *TR
TRANSMISSION IS FAILING IT IS FLARING. RPM RISES TO 6-7K RPM AND IT STILL AROUND 20-30 MPH. AND IT SLOWING INCREASING SPEED. THIS IS DANGEROUS, WHEN I AM TRYING TO MERGE IN TRAFFIC I DON'T HAVE THE ACCELERATION I MERGE ON HIGHWAY OR JUST GETTING ON A STREET. *TR
I OWN A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE WINTER OF 2007-2008 THE CAR WOULD FISHTAIL ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLY ON SNOW AND ICE - NOT A SNOW OR ICE STORM NECESSARILY, BUT REALLY WHENEVER THERE WAS SNOW COVER OR ICE ON THE ROADS. WE CHANGED TIRES - TWICE. THE WINTER OF 2008-2009, WE WERE STILL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS TIME, THE DEALERSHIP SUGGESTED AN ALIGNMENT. WE HAD THAT DONE, BUT THE TECH'S WHO DID THE ALIGNMENT WOULD NOT ROTATE OUR TIRES BECAUSE THEY SAID OUR TIRES WERE BALD. WE DISCOVERED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT BALD ON THE OUTSIDE EDGE, ONLY ON THE INSIDE. WE ENTERED THE WINTER OF 2009-2010 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM - TOOK IT ONCE AGAIN TO THE LITHIA HONDA DEALERSHIP IN AMES, IA. WE READ INTERNET ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE BLAMING THE REAR SWAY BAR. THE TECHNICIANS CHECKED IT AND THE REAR SHOCKS BUT DIDN'T DISCOVER ANYTHING WRONG. LITHIA'S SERVICE DEPT REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT BE ASSURED THEY WOULD BE REIMBURSED FOR THEIR COSTS. LITHIA OF AMES DID NOT CONTACT THE NATIONAL MANUFACTURER, AMERICAN HONDA, UNTIL WE ASKED THEM TO. WE DID MORE RESEARCH. ONE MAN IN BRITISH COLUMBIA HAD POSTED ABOUT HIS CAR HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS OURS - COMPLETE WITH MANY OF THE SAME WORDS USED TO DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM AS WE HAD USED AND THAT TECHNICIANS HAD DETERMINED IT WAS THE CONTROL ARM. THE CONTROL ARM IS TOO SHORT. WE ASKED THEM TO CONTACT AMERICAN HONDA - THE CONTROL ARM HAS A BULLETIN - BUT ONLY FOR UNEVEN TREAD WEAR. MY FAMILY AND I - OUR FRIENDS, EVEN - ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IN THIS CAR. WE CANNOT TAKE IT OVER 35-40 MILES AN HOUR EVEN WHEN IT'S SUNNY OUTSIDE BECAUSE SNOW COVER WILL CAUSE IT TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE CAR DOESN'T TRACK STRAIGHT WHEN TRAVERSING BUMPY ROADS. ON A TRIP DOWN SOUTH LAST WINTER, THE CAR HIT A SMALL PATCH OF ICE AND FELT LIKE WE WERE GOING INTO THE DITCH. WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE TO SEE PROBLEMS WITH THE UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. THE AMERICAN HONDA REPRESENTATIVE , SAID, OUR REAR ALIGNMENT IS THE WORST SHE'S EVER SEEN. PLEASE HELP!! *TR
I OWN A 2006 HONDA CIVIC 2 DOOR COUPE. IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SERVICE SHOP AT THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER AS IT REQUIRES A NEW TRANSMISSION ONLY 5700 MILES PAST THE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS A "RARE" OCCURRENCE AS STATED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER AND USUALLY HAPPENS WITH CARS WITH MUCH HIGHER MILEAGE. IT IS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION THAT AS OF 2 WEEKS AGO HAS BEEN SLIPPING, GRINDING AND WHIRRING. I HAVE REQUESTED THAT THE HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER GET INVOLVED DUE TO REPORTS YOU HAVE PUBLISHED STARTING BACK IN 2001 ABOUT FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS IN CIVICS. THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL SINCE IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED IT IS NOT A "SAFETY" ISSUE. HOW CAN THIS BE?? WHEN YOU PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND YOUR GEARS SLIP GIVING YOU NO ACCELERATION?? I PURCHASED A HONDA DUE TO ITS "LONGEVITY" AND AS OF THIS POINT, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION IS THAT IT HAS LEAKED INTO MY CLUTCH AND REQUIRES A NEW CLUTCH, TRANSMISSION AND DRIVESHAFT AT A COST TO ME OF OVER $5000 WHEN I STILL OWE $7500 ON A CAR THAT'S ONLY 4 YEARS OLD WITH 65722 MILES. I AM PAYING FOR A RENTAL AS INSURANCE DOES NOT COVER THIS AND I AM TRULY UPSET THAT THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE ARE MANY MANY REPORTS ABOUT HONDA CIVICS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS DATED BACK TO 2001. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO REPAIR SHOP FOR BURNING SMELL. IT WAS FOUND THAT FRONT BRAKES WERE LOCKED. BLEEDERS WERE OPENED WHICH RELEASED THE FRONT BRAKE APPLICATION. ONLY THE BUILT UP PRESSURE IN THE CALIPER WAS RELEASED, HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WAS NOT DRAINED, OR BLED. THE BRAKE FLUID IS FULL, THERE ARE NO SIGNS OF FLUID CONTAMINATION. NOW, VEHICLE HAS A HARD BRAKE PEDAL BUT ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKE APPLICATION. NO BRAKE FLUID ESCAPES WHEN OPENING BLEEDERS, WITH HELPER PRESSING BRAKE PEDAL. I THOUGHT, EVEN IN THE EVENT OF COMPLETE ABS FAILURE, THE BASIC HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WOULD STILL BE FUNCTIONING. *TR UPDATED 4/13/10 *CN THE PROBLEM WAS CREATED BY AN IMPROPER ADJUSTMENT OF THE BRAKE POSITION SWITCH (BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH). TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE SUN VISORS WOULD CONTINUALLY FALL FROM THE CLOSED POSITION. IN ADDITION, THE VISORS WERE ALSO SPLIT IN HALF EXPOSING THE METAL CLAMPS ON BOTH ENDS OF THE VISORS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE VISORS TO REMAIN IN A STATIONARY POSITION. THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR WAS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED BY THE DEALER HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A DECISION ON IF HE WOULD BE LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK WHEN MY ENGINE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. AFTER PULLING OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND GOT MY CAR TOWED TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. MY CIVIC EX ONLY HAS 46,000 MILES ON IT! HOW CAN A CAR'S ENGINE CRACK WITH ONLY 46,000 MILES ON IT. HAD I NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION, THE ENGINE COULD HAVE CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO OVERHEATING. LUCKILY, MY ENGINE IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. ACCORDING TO TSB 08-044, A TECHNICAL BULLETIN RELEASED BY HONDA, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH 2006-2007 HONDA CIVICS AND YET THEY HAVE NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THE ENGINES. HONDA IS REFUSING TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR ON MY BEHALF SO I AM NOW FORCED TO SPEND $450 ON A RENTAL CAR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS! *JB
UNDER NORMAL USE, THE SUN VISOR HINGE BREAKS, CAUSING THE VISOR TO SPLIT AT THE SEAM BY ITS MOUNT. THE VISOR IS DIFFICULT TO PUT BACK IN THE UPWARD POSITION AND WILL NOT STAY IN A FORWARD POSITION. IT FALLS STRAIGHT DOWN IMPEDING VISIBILITY. IF FORCED BACK INTO THE UPWARD POSITION, IT WILL STAY OUT OF VIEW, BUT WILL NOT FUNCTION FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE; THEREFORE, THERE IS NO USABLE SUN VISOR. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW IN OCTOBER 2006. THE VISOR WAS FIRST REPLACED BY THE DEALER IN 2008. IT BROKE AGAIN IN EARLY 2010. SEARCHING THE WEB, I FIND THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT HAS GONE UNADDRESSED. *TR
FIRST MY AC STOPPED WORKING AND THEN MY TEMPERATURE MAXED OUT. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC. IT TURNS OUT THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK IS CRACKED! YES, I HAVE 132K. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS TURNED OFF AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT RESPONSIVE. HOWEVER, THE BRAKES STILL WORKED. AFTER COASTING TO A STOP, THE CAR WAS ABLE TO RESTART IMMEDIATELY. THIS FAILURE HAS NOT YET RECURRED. THE SYMPTOMS ARE VERY SIMILAR TO THOSE CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH WAS RECALLED ON 2002 HONDA MODELS. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX WITH ONLY 35,000 MILES STARTED OVERHEATING. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY RELIABLE MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. HE TOLD ME TO TOW THE CAR TO THE HONDA REPAIR SHOP AS THIS WAS A FAULT WITH THIS PARTICULAR YEAR. HONDA IS COVERING THE COST TO REPAIR. WE HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A DEFECT ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTED TO EITHER DRIVE OR REVERSE, THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY LURCH EVEN THOUGH THE FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. A FEW TIMES WHERE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE SHE DIDN'T EXERT ENOUGH FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND CAUSED FOR THE VEHICLE TO MOVE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT INTENDED. LUCKILY THE ONLY INCIDENT HAVE BEEN MINOR WITH REGARDS TO THE BUMPER HITTING THE WALL OR ANOTHER VEHICLE. WE BELIEVE THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIX ESPECIALLY IN THE EVENT THAT THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN A STEEP SLOPE THAT WILL CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX SEDAN HAS HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH BOTH SUN VISORS SINCE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. THE VISORS HAVE BOTH MELTED AND BROKE WHICH CAUSE THEM TO HANG DOWN IN VIEW AND WILL NOT GO IN THE UP POSITION. WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AND THE HEAT IN MY CAR WENT COLD. I PULLED OVER INTO A PARKING LOT TO CHECK MY ANTIFREEZE, THE TUBE RUNNING INTO THE RESERVOIR TANK WAS STILL WET FROM ANTI-FREEZE. I ADDED MORE ANTI-FREEZE AND BEGAN TO DRIVE, MY CAR ONCE AGAIN BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AFTER 30 SECONDS OF DRIVING. CAR WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHICH HE DETERMINED MY ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED IN 2 PLACES. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT HONDA HAD RELEASED A TSB 08-044 STATING THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2006-2007 MODELS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP IN WHICH THEY ALSO CONCLUDED THAT I HAD A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA IS ONLY WILLING TO PAY 50% OF THE COSTS. THIS CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND WITH DOING RESEARCH, MANY LIKE ME ARE DEALING WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD TAKE FULL OWNERSHIP ON THIS DEFECT AND COVER THE COSTS 100%! *TR

I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. FOR THE PAST SIX OR SO MONTHS SOMETIMES WHEN I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE AFTER A STOP OR AFTER SLOWING DOWN THE IMA BATTERY INDICATOR WILL DROP TO 1 OR NO BARS WITHIN A SECOND OR TWO. WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING AND FOR AT LEAST 1 MINUTE AFTERWARD I HAVE ALMOST NO POWER AND CAN BARELY ACCELERATE. THE LOSS OF POWER IS SO BAD THAT I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED CRASHES. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY, BUT MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. WHEN IT DOES HAPPEN, MY MPG ALSO DROPS QUITE A BIT. SINCE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PREDICT IT MAKES DRIVING VERY HAZARDOUS. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THAT THE CAR IS NOT GOING INTO AUTO-STOP AS OFTEN AS IT SHOULD BE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO HONDA DEALERSHIPS AND BOTH HAVE SAID THAT THEY CAN'T "DUPLICATE" THE PROBLEM AND THAT NO "CODES" ARE COMING UP. THE FIRST DEALERSHIP DID NOTHING. THE SECOND ONE, WHICH WAS WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED "RESET THE COMPUTER" BUT NOTHING ELSE. THE CAR HAS BEEN GIVEN BACK TO ME BOTH TIMES AND THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED. *TR

MY PAINT ON MY CAR WAS COMING OFF. HONDA WAS SUPPOSED TO REPAINT IT. THEY HAD USED SOME NEW ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PAINT ON THEIR CARS AND MANY CARS WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. I BRING MY CAR IN BEFORE MY WEDDING AND HONDA SAID THEY NO LONGER REPAINT THE CARS. I HAVE THE INFO OF THE PERSON WHO HAD TAKEN THE PHOTOS BUT HE WAS NO LONGER WORKING. I CALLED THEM TO MAKE SURE I WAS STILL "SCHEDULED" AND I EVEN SPOKE TO THE NEW PERSON WHO WAS TRANSITIONING INTO THE POSITION WHILE THE CURRENT PERSON WAS STILL THERE AND THEY BOTH ASSURED ME THAT I WAS STILL SCHEDULED FOR MY REPAINT. I CAN'T BELIEVE SUCH A LARGE COMPANY ACTS LIKE THIS. THEY DID NOT PRODUCE QUALITY AND DON'T FIX THEIR MISTAKES. THIS SHOWS THEM TO BE SO DISHONEST AND DISHONORABLE. 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX, 69000 MILES. DRIVING TO VISIT FAMILY ON CHRISTMAS DAY, MY ENGINE BEGAN SMOKING WITH NO WARNING. THE TEMP GAUGE NEVER MOVED. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE FREEWAY AND AFTER LETTING THE CAR COOL, ADDED OVER A GALLON OF COOLANT. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC, THINKING IT WAS JUST A HOSE OR SOMETHING, AND HE DIAGNOSED IT WITH A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. HE SHOWED ME TSB 08-044 AND SAID THE ONLY WAY THE ENGINE BLOCK COULD HAVE CRACKED IS FROM A DEFECT IN THE PART. HE SUGGESTED I TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORM HONDA OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THE CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AND OFFERED ME A 75/25% SPLIT, LEAVING ME WITH A BILL OF $840. HONDA NEEDS TO COVER THIS REPAIR FOR ALL OWNERS AT 100%, REGARDLESS OF MILEAGE. IN MY RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS KNOWN DEFECT IS BECOMING MORE WIDESPREAD IN 2006, 2007 AND NOW EVEN 2008 HONDA CIVICS, AS THESE NEWER CARS BEGIN TO REACH HIGHER MILEAGE. THE DEFECT IS A RESULT OF FAULTY CASTING RESULTING IN A POROUS ENGINE BLOCK PRONE TO CRACKING AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURES, WHICH HONDA IS TRYING TO COVER UP. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL OR AT LEAST OWNER NOTIFICATION SO THAT PEOPLE CAN HAVE THEIR CAR INSPECTED FOR THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THEIR WARRANTY IS UP. I BOUGHT THIS CAR WITH A DEFECTIVE ENGINE... AS THEY HAVE SEEN SIMILAR PROBLEMS, THEIR DISTRICT MANAGER APPROVED THEM COVERING 50 % OF THE ESTIMATED COST OF $3100 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE / BLOCK. WHILE I APPRECIATE THEIR GENEROSITY, I WOULD EXPECT THEM TO COVER IT 100 %, AS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ON THE R18 ENGINE USED IN THE 2006 CIVIC. THAT I WAS UNLUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE MADE IT PASSED 60K MILES BEFORE THE CRACK APPEARED SEEM IRONIC. I SUGGEST THAT HONDA MAKE GOOD ON A 90 / 10 REPLACEMENT PROGRAM, 90 % OF THE COST COVERED BY AMERICAN HONDA. IF THIS WAS SOME OTHER BRAND WITH A LESSER REPUTATION FOR QUALITY AND RELIABILITY, I WOULD NOT BE SO SURPRISED, BUT THE HONDA NAME LEADS ME TO EXPECT BETTER. *TR

WHEN MY LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE CAR, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE 2006 AND 2007 ENGINES USED IN THE CIVIC. I WAS VERY LUCKY NOT TO HAVE ENDED UP STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY DURING THIS FRIGID NEW ENGLAND WINTER. IF HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THIS FLAW THEY SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
