INTERMITTENT WIPERS RUN ON LONGER THAN NORMAL AND STOP IN MID-WINDSHIELD AND NOT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD. EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM LAST WINTER/SPRING AND SEEMS TO WORK FINE DURING WARM MONTHS. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID.... UNEVEN OR RAPID REAR TIRE WEAR, RESULTING IN A ROARING NOISE FROM THE REAR, AND A VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE LATER POISING THE POTENTIAL RISK OF LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. HONDA BULLETIN 08-001 ACKNOWLEDGES PROBLEM BUT HONDA IS NOT WILLING TO BE PROACTIVE BY REPAIRING PROBLEM, WAITING ON CONSUMER TO COMPLAIN. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS INHERENT PROBLEM THAT HONDA RECOGNIZES BUT WILL NOT TAKE ACTION TO REMEDIATE ON VEHICLES THAT MAY PASS WARRANTY LIMITS. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND ADVISED THEM I WAS MADE AWARE OF THEIR SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001 THAT ADDRESSES PROBLEM I HAD ORIGINALLY COMPLAINED ABOUT TO HONDA CITY, BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST BAD TIRES. DESPITE HAVING MY CAR SERVICED AT DEALMAKER HONDA, AT NO TIME DID THEY APPRISE ME OF THIS SERVICE BULLETIN. A VISUAL INSPECTION SHOWS UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. IF IT IS OBVIOUS TO THE UNTRAINED EYE, WHY DIDN'T THEY NOTE IT ON THEIR ROUTINE CHECKS WHEN I HAD THE CAR SERVICED? I BELIEVE HONDA SHOULD CONTACT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND MAKE THEM AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE HIGH SPEED VIBRATION OR TIRE MALFUNCTION COULD POTENTIALLY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND THE TENSION BAR WAS REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH ON A SECONDARY ROAD HE HEARD A PECULIAR NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE TENSION BAR BOLT AND THE SERPENTINE BELT AT AN EXPENSE OF $543.36. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT THEY COULD NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE HE ALREADY HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT TECHNICIAN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000
THE LEFT REAR WHEEL BEARING ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EC COUPE FAILED AT JUST UNDER 60K MILES. THOUGH IT WAS COVERED UNDER A AUG 2007 RECALL, HONDA NEVER CONTACTED ME ABOUT THE RECALL NOR NOTIFIED ME AT ANY OF THE TIMES I WAS IN FOR DEALER SERVICE AFTER AUGUST 2007 PRIOR TO THE TIME THE BEARING HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
THE SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER BOLT HAS BROKEN 5 TIMES IN THE PAST 30,000 MILES. THIS REQUIRES REMOVING THE BROKEN BOLT AND REPLACING THE BOLT, TENSIONER ASSEMBLY, SERPENTINE BELT, WATER PUMP AND/OR PULLEY EACH TIME. HONDA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE IN FEBRUARY 2009, I RECEIVED A "PRODUCT UPDATE: REROUTING THE DRIVE BELT" WHICH ALSO RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE BOLT. PRIOR TO THIS, ON OCTOBER 3, 2007 AT 35,954 MILES I TOOK THE CAR TO HONDA BECAUSE OF A WHINING NOISE AND THEY REROUTED THE BELT - BUT DID NOT REPLACE THE BOLT. IN ADDITION TO THE NOVEMBER 23, 2009 INCIDENT ABOVE, THE BOLT ALSO BROKE MAY 20, 2010 AT 78,198 MILES, AND AGAIN ON OCTOBER 12, 2010 AT 81,895 MILES AND THAT TIME WAS FIXED BY WADE RAULERSON HONDA, GAINESVILLE, FL. WHEN IT BROKE ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2012 AT 98,000 MILES I WAS IN GAINESVILLE AND HAD IT TOWED TO HONDA OF GAINESVILLE BUT THEIR ESTIMATE WAS $850 AND INCLUDED A NEW WATER PUMP WHICH WE LATER FOUND IT DID NOT NEED. SO I HAD IT TOWED 25 MILES BACK TO WILLISTON AND MY SON, AN EXPERIENCED MECHANIC REMOVED THE BOLT AND REPLACED IT, THE TENSIONER AND BELT. ON NOVEMBER 13, 2012 AT 101,000 MILES, THE BOLT BROKE AGAIN AND HE HAD A MORE DIFFICULT TIME REMOVING AND REPLACING IT. ALL THE REPLACED PARTS HAVE BEEN HONDA PARTS. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE THIS TIME, IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A BAD ACCIDENT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WARNING AND THE ENGINE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY. I WILL NEVER HAVE THE CONFIDENCE TO DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE OR FOR ANY DISTANCE AGAIN BUT, NOW THAT I'M LIVING MOSTLY ON SOCIAL SECURITY, I CANNOT AFFORD CAR PAYMENTS. I EXPECTED THIS HONDA TO LAST ME AS LONG AS I WOULD NEED A CAR. THE REPAIR COSTS I'VE PAID HAVE BEEN $1,800 AND DON'T INCLUDE MY SON'S LABOR. *TR
2006 CIVIC CRACKED BLOCK ISSUE. ON NOV 10 I REALIZED I HAD A COOLANT LEAK AND TOOK IT INTO A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE SHOWED ME I HAD A COOLANT LEAK ON THE FRONT OF MY MOTOR. I DID A LITTLE RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE IS ACTUALLY A TSB REPORT ABOUT A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK DUE TO CASTING POROSITY PROBLEM. SO I TOOK IT INTO MY HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THIS WAS IN FACT THE PROBLEM AND PROCEEDED TO TRY AND CHARGE ME $5500.. OH WAIT THEY WERE GOING TO COVER 25% HOW NICE. BEFORE I LEFT I HAD GOT THEM FROM 25-40% BUT TO ME THAT IS STILL UNACCEPTABLE. ACCORDING TO THE ACTUAL HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN, WHICH WAS ISSUED IN MAY 2008, ACTUALLY CIRCLES THE EXACT SPOT WHERE MY LEAK IS AND STILL REFUSES TO COVER THE COST DUE TO MY MILEAGE. I THINK THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!! THE TSB VERIFIES THAT HONDA KNOWS THIS A PROBLEM ALTHOUGH THEY WILL NOT STEP UP AND FIX THEIR KNOWN DEFECT.. *TR
WE PURCHASED A CIVIC HYBRID DEC 2006 AND WITH 13K MILES IN MARCH WENT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE OF A VERY LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS THE NATURE OF THE CAR AND SOLD ONE NEW TIRE. SINCE THEN WE WENT ELSEWHERE FOR SERVICE. AFTER GOING THROUGH 3 SETS OF TIRES AND READY FOR THE 4TH IN THREE YEARS AND 80K MILES WE RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN ON SOME AFFECTED CARS FOR REAR TIRE RODS THAT WERE DEFECTIVE BUT OURS WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE E IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I EXPLAINED THAT WE HAD THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER BUT THEY DID NOT FIX. HONDA SAYS TOO BAD NO LONGER COVERED SO WE ARE TO PAY FOR FAULTY ITEMS THAT WE HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT AFTER ONLY 13K MILE DUE THE INCOMPETENCE OF THE HONDA FAMILY. VERY UPSET! *TR
1. LEFT MY LIGHTS ON AND NEEDED A JUMP START ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID NAVI. 2. AFTER RECEIVING THE JUMP START, THE VEHICLES BRAKE LIGHT, ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHTS WERE ALL ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH BOARD. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLES AUTO ENGINE STOP FEATURE WAS NO LONGER OPERATIVE, 3. MY HONDA DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A FAILURE OF THE ABS MODULE. AS SUCH, THE VEHICLE'S ABS WAS NON FUNCTIONAL, ALTHOUGH THE AUTOMOBILE CONTINUED TO RUN. SINCE MY VEHICLE HAD 103,000 MILES IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE INITIAL ESTIMATED REPAIR COST WAS $1500. I SUSPECTED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE ABS WAS THE JUMP START. I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND CONFIRMED A NUMBER OF OTHER SIMILAR REPORTS OF THE SAME PROBLEM, SAME CONDITION (AFTER A JUMP START) AND SAME EXPENSIVE REPAIR HAVE BEEN REPORTED. THERE IS NO WARNING ABOUT JUMP STARTING IN THE VEHICLES ENGINE COMPARTMENT, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MANY OTHER WARNINGS. THERE IS NO PROTECTIVE COVER ON THE VEHICLES NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (WHICH MAY BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM). AND THERE IS NO WARNING IN THE VEHICLES USERS MANUAL. I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORPORATION TO REPORT THE PROBLEM, ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY DUE TO ITS MILEAGE. I CONTINUED TO REACH OUT TO SENIOR MANAGEMENT OF AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORP TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND ASK FOR THEIR ASSISTANCE AS "A GOODWILL GESTURE" AND AGAIN RECEIVED THE SAME "OUT OF WARRANTY" REPLY. ON DECEMBER 21, I SENT CERTIFIED LETTERS TO AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CORPS CEO OUTLINING THE ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE A DOCUMENTATION AND WARNING LABEL FAILURE, WHICH CAN PUT THE DRIVER AT EXTREME RISK OF INJURY SINCE THE ABS CIRCUIT BECOMES NON OPERATIONAL. ON DECEMBER 28TH I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM AMERICAN HONDA IN WHICH THEY CONFIRMED THAT HAVE RECEIVED OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS IDENTICAL ISSUE, BUT THEY DENIED MY REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER COVERED BY THEIR WARRANTY. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SEARS AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS UNDER A RECALL AND THAT THE DEALER WOULD FIX IT FOR FREE. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE WATER PUMP WAS NOT COVERED BY A RECALL. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT THAT ONLY CERTAIN VIN NUMBERS WERE EFFECTED BY THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG 2006 HONDA CIVICS AND I BELIEVE THIS TO BE THE RESULT OF A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. I FOUND SEVERAL SIMILAR INCIDENTS LISTED AT THE NHTSA WEBSITE WITH SIMILAR DESCRIPTIONS. MY VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE WATER PUMP AND TENSIONER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $380.08. I SPOKE TO THE HONDA DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND ALSO CALLED HONDA MOTOR COMPANY, BUT WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. *TR
I LEASED A NEW 2006 HONDA CIVIC, 2-DOOR COUPE IN APRIL 2006. TWICE WHILE MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE MILEAGE WARRANTY, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR (PART #88380-SNA-A01ZA, H/C 8073496) FAILED. FAILURE IN THIS CASE MEANS THE UNIT SPLIT APART AT THE SEAM CONNECTED TO THE ARM THAT HOLDS IT TO THE HEADLINER. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS TO REPLACE THE VISOR. EACH TIME THE VISOR WAS REPLACED IT LASTED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR BEFORE FAILING AGAIN. EACH PART REPLACEMENT WAS IDENTICAL TO THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE MOST RECENT FAILURE OCCURRED JUST AFTER THE CAR WENT OUT OF THE 3-YEAR WARRANTY, AND BEFORE THE 36,000 MILE EXPIRED. I HELD OFF REPLACING IT BECAUSE I KNEW I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. RECENTLY, I NARROWLY AVERTED AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY MY DEFECTIVE VISOR. IT WOULD NOT STAY UP AGAINST THE ROOF, FLOPPING DOWN 100% OF THE TIME, WHICH CAUSED ME TO MISS SEEING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND TO ENTER AN INTERSECTION AFTER A TRAFFIC SIGNAL TURNED RED. LUCKILY, THE DRIVER CROSSING FROM MY RIGHT WAS ABLE TO SEE ME AND TO COME TO A STOP IN TIME. BUT I KNEW I COULD NOT DELAY REPLACING THE VISOR. A NEW VISOR COST ME CLOSE TO $70. THERE WAS NO AFTERMARKET PRODUCT AVAILABLE AND I DID NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS TO INSTALL A NEW VISOR MYSELF. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL BLOGS: WWW.USRECALLNEWS.COM AND WWW.CIVICFORUMS.COM AND WWW.HONDA-TECH.COM, FILLED WITH COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER HONDA OWNERS HAVING IDENTICAL PROBLEMS. ALL REPORTED THE SAME THING: HONDA WILL NOT FIX THEM FREE OF CHARGE AFTER THE WARRANTY. AND THERE HAS BEEN NO REDESIGN OF THE PART. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE ITEM TO HAVE TO REPLACE ONCE A YEAR (ON AVERAGE), AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH A DEFECTIVE VISOR. IT DROPS DOWN AND FULLY OBSTRUCTS VISION IN THE UPPER HALF OF THE WINDSHIELD. SURELY THIS FACT, BACKED UP BY MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND THAT OF OTHERS, CONSTITUTES REASON FOR A SAFETY RECALL. BY THE WAY, I NOW OWN THE CAR WHICH IS A GOOD VEHICLE IN OTHER RESPECTS. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR
PREMATURE TIREWEAR & TIRE ROAR ON REAR TIRES. ALSO PREMATURE BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT ON FRONT DISC BRAKES. ORIGINAL TIRES REPLACED AT 41,591 MILES. NEW TIRES HAVE APPROX. 15,500MILES. FRONT DISC PADS REPLACED AT 33,489. CAR NOW HAS 57,096MILES .

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE HAD MOVED TOWARDS HOT. MOMENTS LATER SMOKE ENGULFED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, AND SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 130000.
WAS DRIVING 2006 HONDA CIVIC HOME FROM WORK AND TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT TO HOT. MECHANIC SAID COOLANT LEAKING FROM CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. CAR WAS UNUSABLE WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED. REPLACED ENTIRE ENGINE BECAUSE WAS LESS THAN REPLACING ENGINE BLOCK. OLD ENGINE IS AVAILABLE. 2 SPECIAL BULLETINS FROM HONDA ON CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA REFUSED TO PAY ANYTHING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE EXITING A PARKING SPACE THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BENT TO THE RIGHT, WHICH THEN JAMMED INTO THE WHEEL RAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE REAR LOWER CONTROL ARM HAD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED, BUT WAS STILL AT THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 85,000. UPDATED 11/03/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE CONTROL ARM BROKE IN HALF WHICH CAUSED THE WHEEL TO JAM INTO THE WHEEL WELL. UPDATED 11/03/09.*JB
DEFECTIVE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS WHICH CAUSE EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. ONLY A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED FROM HONDA. THE BAD PART IS WHEN THE SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED IN JULY 2008 MY VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THERE'S TRUST ISSUES WITH MY DEALER (PHIL BACHMAN HONDA) WHICH I FEEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING OUT FOR ME THEIR CUSTOMER AND MADE ME AWARE OF THIS BUT THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN SO I AM PAYING $700 INSTEAD OF HONDA. WHEN I CONTACTED HONDA THE REPRESENTATIVE CHRIS TRIED TO POINT THE PROBLEM TO ME FOR NOT REPLACING MY TIRES WITH THE SAME BRAND THAT COME ON IT FROM THE FACTORY. HOW CRAZY THIS PROVES HONDA IS A COMPANY OF PLACING THE BLAME ON OTHERS INSTEAD OF TAKING OWNERSHIP / FIXING THE BAD CONTROL ARMS THEY INSTALLED. I READ THE COMPLAINTS AND SEE THAT BASICALLY EVERY BRAND OF TIRE HAS BEEN DAMAGED DUE TO THIS. THIS SHOULD BE RECLASSIFIED AS A RECALL AND EVERYONE PAID BACK FOR THERE REPAIRS AND PRORATED TIRE COST - IN MY CASE HONDA OWES ME $220 FOR THE CONTROL ARM REPAIR AND $150 PRORATED TIRES. THIS MUST BE THE HONDA'S NEW MIND SET NEVER TAKE OWNERSHIP. IT ALSO MAY HAVE TO DO WITH HAVING 3 RECALLS ALREADY. *TR
ELECTRONIC MOTOR ASSIST (EMA) BATTERY FAILURE IN A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CAR HAD 60,000 MILES ON IT AND THE BATTERY THAT POWERS THE ELECTRONIC MOTOR FAILED. WHEN THE BATTERIES BECOME FAULTY: GAS MILEAGE IS DECREASED AS WELL AS THE CAR'S OVERALL HORSEPOWER(BY ABOUT 20-25 HP IF I AM CORRECT). THIS MAKES DRIVING THE CAR UNPREDICTABLE WHEN IN TRAFFIC. THE $3,000 BATTERY WAS REPLACED BY HONDA THROUGH WARRANTY(STOPS AT 80,000 MILES). HONDA HAD STATED THAT THE BATTERIES SHOULD LAST AT LEAST 100,000 MILES. THE BATTERIES SEEM TO BE GOING BE FAILING IN 50,000-70,000 MILEAGE AREA AT AN EXTRAORDINARY RATE. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE MY SECOND REPLACEMENT AS IN 2007 I HAD A COMPLETE EMA FAILURE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE ELECTRONIC MOTOR ASSIST FAILED 100%. ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD TURNED ON AND THE RPMS SHOT WAY UP. THE DEALERSHIP HAD MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK AND THEN TOLD ME THAT IT NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH TAKES MINUTES TO UPDATE. *TR
SUNVISOR ON MY 2006 HONDA KEEPS BREAKING CAUSING IT TO FALL INTO VIEW CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

2006 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISOR FELL OFF. VERY DANGEROUS TO NOT HAVE SUN VISOR WHEN DRIVING INTO THE SUN. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC LX UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATING WHILE BRAKED. ONE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE. IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE CAR FROM PROCEEDING INTO THE INTERSECTION, I HAD TO APPLY BOTH FEET HEAVILY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS CROSSING THE STREET IN FRONT OF MY CAR AT THE TIME. AFTER THIS INCIDENT, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY HONDA DEALER TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM. IN A SECOND SIMILAR INCIDENT, I WAS STOPPED WAITING TO EXIT A COMMERCIAL PARKING LOT ONTO A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE. AGAIN, THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE FIERCELY. THIS TIME I WAS UNABLE TO HOLD BACK THE CAR WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. IN A PANIC, FEARING I WOULD HIT SOMEONE CROSSING IN FRONT OF MY PATH, I ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK OR REVERSE JUST TO STOP IT FROM CONTINUING FORWARD. THE LATEST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 10/3/09 WHILE BRAKED AT A CORNER INTERSECTION WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR DOWN THE BLOCK WHERE I WANTED TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. THIS TIME WHILE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND I PROCEEDED SLOWLY TO TURN THE CORNER, THE CAR BEGAN TO ACCELERATE UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS OCCURRED WHILE ANOTHER CAR WAS PROCEEDING DOWN THE BLOCK TOWARDS ME. WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, I WAS UNABLE TO HOLD BACK THE CAR AS I PROCEED AROUND THE CORNER. AS MY CAR CONTINUED TO RACE FORWARD, I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO MANEUVER AROUND THE OTHER CAR WITHOUT STRIKING IT HEAD ON. THESE UNEXPECTED ACCELERATIONS HAVE BEEN VERY TERRIFYING EXPERIENCES AND IT IS EVEN MORE UPSETTING TO LEARN FROM THE DEALER THAT THIS PROBLEM CANNOT BE EXPLAINED OR REPAIRED. HYBRID BATTERY IMMEDIATELY & WITHOUT WARNING LOSES ITS ENTIRE CHARGE (FROM FULL TO ZERO IMMEDIATELY) CAUSING A FORCED MAJOR RECHARGE OF HYBRID BATTERY, GIVING THE CAR ALMOST NO POWER WITH NO WARNING (UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS IT NEVER REACHES ZERO--A MILD RECHARGE WILL KICK IN ONCE IT GETS HALF-FULL). HONDA'S TECHS VERIFIED THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR BUT BECAUSE THEY RECEIVE NO ERROR CODE THEY REFUSE TO DO ANY FIXES AND REPLACE THE BATTERIES EVEN THOUGH PROBLEM IS WELL-KNOWN (JUST SEARCH THE HYBRID CAR FORUMS FOR OTHERS WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM). HAPPENS A FEW TIMES EACH MONTH NOW, ALWAYS WITHOUT WARNING, ALWAYS IMMEDIATELY FROM FULL (OR NEAR FULL) TO ZERO. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS A NORMAL GRADUAL DEPLETION AS YOU USE THE HYBRID SYSTEM UNDER NORMAL USE. IT SUDDENLY DISCHARGES THE HYBRID BATTERY FROM FULL TO ZERO AND FORCES A MAJOR RECHARGE PULLING AWAY MOST OF THE CAR'S POWER THAT CAN EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I EVEN WENT TO HONDA ON AUG. 13, 2009 COMPLAINING OF VIBRATIONS FELT ESPECIALLY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 68 MPH. THEY PUT THE CAR ON THE LIFT AND MY REAR TIRES WERE WORN ON THE INNER BOTTOMS RIGHT DOWN TO THE STEEL BELTS! THE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TIRES AND AN ALIGNMENT AND SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE NEED FOR THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS EVEN THOUGH THE MECHANIC SAID TO SAL (THE SERVICEMAN HELPING ME) ABOUT SOME SORT OF RECALL ONLY TO HAVE SAL SAY THAT THERE WERE NONE. IT IS ONLY THAN THAT THEY REPLACED THE PARTS AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE OF THE WEAR ON THEM. I FEEL THAT IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WEAR. IN AUGUST OF 2009, AT 89,549 MILES THE ORIGINAL SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER FAILED. THE TENSIONER BOLT BROKE OFF IN THE ENGINE BLOCK DURING THE REPLACEMENT PROCESS. ENOUGH OF THE BOLT WAS EXPOSED TO GRIP IT AND REMOVE IT FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. HONDA REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE USED INCLUDING NEW TENSIONER ASSEMBLY, TENSIONER BOLT AND BELT. LOCAL HONDA DEALER WOULD NOT ASSIST. NOT WARRANTY, NO DEFECT, NO OFFER TO ASSIST. OCTOBER, 2011, AT 146,000 MILES, THE TENSIONER BOLT BROKE CAUSING MISALIGNMENT OF THE SERPENTINE TENSIONER PULLEY, TEARING UP THE BELT AND STALLING OUT THE ENGINE. THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. INSTALLED A SECOND "BELT ENHANCEMENT KIT" FROM LOCAL PARTS COMPANY,WITH NEW LONGER BELT, NEW BELT ROUTING AND NEW TENSIONER WITH A NEW BOLT. PRIVATE MECHANIC HAD TROUBLE REMOVING BROKEN BOLT FROM ENGINE BLOCK, BUT GOT IT OUT. THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER SAID MY VIN NOT AFFECTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. LOCAL PARTS DEALERS COMPUTERS ALL SHOWED A "BELT ENHANCEMENT KIT" AND SO DID THE HONDA PARTS DEPARTMENT. HONDA SERVICE WRITERS NOT HELPFUL, NOT THEIR PROBLEM. WHAT WILL HAPPEN THE NEXT TIME THIS BOLT FAILS AND DAMAGES THE THREADS? OR THIS FAILURE DAMAGES THE ALTERNATOR, WATERPUMP, POWER STEERING UNIT AND OTHER PARTS? THIS SHOULD BE A WARRANTABLE FAILURE COVERED BY HONDA. *TR
A SCREW HOLDING IN PLACE THE TRUNK SENSOR BROKE INTO TWO PIECES AND WE COULD NOT OPEN THE TRUNK,EITHER WITH THE CABLE RELEASE OR THE FOB. THERE ARE TWO APPROXIMATELY 1/16 INCH WIDE SCREWS HOLDING THE TRUNK SENSOR IN PLACE SO THAT IT CAN OPEN THE TRUNK ON COMMAND FROM THE FOB OR CABLE RELEASE SYSTEM. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEN IN AN ACCIDENT NOR HAS IT BEEN JARRED VIOLENTLY IN ANY WAY. THIS SCREW BREAKING IN TWO PIECES HAPPENED DURING NORMAL USE.THERE IS NO KEY RELEASE SYSTEM TO LOWER THE BACK SUPPORT SECTION OF THE REAR SEATS NOR IS THERE A REAR LOCK TO ENTER THE TRUNK.SO,TO FIX THE PROBLEM ,MY MECHANIC HAD TO REMOVE ENOUGH BOLTS TO ENTER FROM BEHIND THE REAR SEAT. HAD A CHILD BEEN LOCKED IN THE TRUNK,IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN AT LEAST AN HOUR TO EXTRACATE HIM OR HER. THANK-YOU! *TR
CAR PARKED OVER THE WEEKEND IN SHADED AREA. MONDAY MORNING, FLIPPED THE VISOR DOWN WHEN IT SPLIT OPEN ALONG THE SEAM. A METAL BRACKET POPPED OUT, LEAVING THE VISOR DANGLING DOWN. THE VISOR IS A HAZARD THAT SEVERAL PASSENGERS HAVE BUMPED THEIR HEADS INTO IT. THE VISOR CREATES BLIND SPOT WHEN DRIVING. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR DAMAGED PARTS. MY DRIVERS SIDE VISOR IS ALSO SPLIT OPEN. HONDA SUGGESTED I CALL THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS IN AN EFFORT TO HAVE THEM REPLACE THE VISORS. MANAGERS REFUSE TO SPEAK TO ME OR HAVE REFUSED TO RETURN MY CALLS. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN SUN VISOR DEFECTIVE AND IS DANGLING DUE TO 2-PART DESIGN. THIS IS A DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER. EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE ARE NEGLIGIBLE. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 3 YEARS AND HARDLY USE THE SUN VISOR, EXCEPT TO HOLD UP A SUN SCREEN FOR WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED. I HAVE NOT YET HAD THE CHANCE TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE IS NOISE DURING DRIVING WHICH APPEAR TO BE FROM THE TIRES AND IT CAN BE ANNOYING AT POINTS. I READ ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND MY CAR HAS THE PROBLEMS THAT OCCUR TO HAVING A BAD CONTROL ARM. THE INNER PORTION OF MY TIRES ARE WEARING OUT FASTER THAN THE OTHER PARTS OF THE TIRES. HONDA AND THE DEALERSHIP I GO TO WON'T COVER THE REPLACEMENT OF THE CONTROL ARMS BECAUSE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE CONTROL ARM ISSUE UNTIL RECENTLY. I HAVE BOUGHT ANOTHER SET OF TIRES BECAUSE THE FIRST SET STARTED TO MAKE THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATE DURING SPEEDS ABOVE 60 MPH. HONDA SHOULD MAKE THIS A RECALL OR COVER ALL THE COSTS OF REPLACING THESE PARTS EVEN IF THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CAR OWNER SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR FIXING THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED FOLLOWED BY AN EXCESSIVE DELAYED RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V034000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING: ENGINE).THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE FAILURE BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE WHICH RESULTED TO THE BATTERY NOT MAINTAINING A CHARGE; LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND DECELERATING ISSUES. ALSO, THE ENGINE WAS SLUGGISH DURING ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 90,000.
