MY HONDA CIVIC DIED ON THE FREEWAY AND THE RESULT WAS A CRACKED BLOCK. I HAVE FOUND OUT SINCE THAT HONDA ISSUES A TSB 08-044 ON THESE ENGINES FOR THERE REPAIR SHOP. I HAVE DOCUMENTS THAT I CAN EMAIL TO YOU. THE ENGINES ARE KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE, BUT HONDA WAITS UNTIL AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES TO AVOID FIXING THE PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ON THESE ENGINES. SEE CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND CRACKEDENGINES.COM FOR MORE CASES OTHER THAN MINE. LUCKY FOR ME, THAT WHEN THE ENGINE DIED AT 65 MPH IN THE FAST LANE, A QUICK THINKING CHP OFFICER PUSHED MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE 70MPH FAST LAST AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. IF THIS 'RECALL' IS ISSUED AND SAVES ONE LIVE, IT IS WORTH IT. *TR
AIR CONDITIONER BLOWS ONLY HOT AIR AFTER DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. CULPRIT WAS FOUND TO BE A LEAKING SUCTION LINE, PROBABLY PUNCTURED BY ROAD DEBRIS DURING DRIVE. THE LOCATION OF THE SUCTION LINE IS IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR, WHICH IS NOT PROTECTED BY A MESH GRILL. DUE TO ITS LOCATION, SUCTION LINE IS EASILY DAMAGEABLE. HONDA SHOULD PROVIDE FREE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THIS IS FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN FAULT. THE DEALER FIXED THIS ISSUE BY REPLACING THE FRAGILE COPPER SUCTION LINE WITH A HEAVY DUTY RUBBER TUBE AND REDIRECTED IT BEHIND THE BUMPER INSTEAD OF IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR. *TR
06' HONDA CIVIC EX 2 DR, A/C STOPPED WORKING, BROUGHT IT TO HONDA AND WITHOUT HESITATION STATED IT WAS A SMALL ROCK OR PEBBLE THAT KNOCKED A HOLE IN MY CONDENSER, $700 PLUS TO FIX. WHY IN THE HECK WAS THIS NOT RECALLED AND SOMETHING PLACED OVER THE GAPING HOLE THAT ALLOWS A SMALL ROCK OR PEBBLE TO CAUSE SO MUCH DAMAGE? I HAVE READ UP AND SEEMS THIS IS HAPPENING WITH ALL MAKES AND MODELS OF HONDA BUT ESPECIALLY PREVALENT ON THE CR-V'S. THIS NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED AND HONDA NEEDS TO MAKE A STATEMENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING AT LEAST 35 MPH UPHILL, THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIVE SLUGGISH AND WITH LIMITED POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HE WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE BATTERY TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65,000. UPDATED 2/23/11 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE AUTO STOP FEATURE AND MAIN BATTERY BEGAN ACTING ERRATIC AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN LOSING POWER. UPDATED 05/20/11

2006 HONDA CIVIC COUPE, 36,900 MILES. 4/24/09 DISCOVER AIR CONDITIONER BLOWING HOT AIR, DRIVEN TO DEALER. DEALER TEST AC SYSTEM DISCOVERS "FREON LEAK IN AC CONDENSER WHERE STRUCK BY A ROCK OR SOME SORT OF ROAD DEBRIS". AC CONDENSER REPLACED. TOTAL COST OF $828. RESEARCH ON HONDA CIVIC AC CONDENSER THROUGH GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED HTTP://WWW.TOPIX.COM/FORUM/AUTOS/HONDA/TQ02NF40877B57GF6/P6#LASTPOST MULTIPLE POST FROM HONDA OWNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND "DIAGNOSIS" FROM HONDA. OBVIOUSLY, THESE COSTLY REPAIRS ARE DUE TO A POOR DESIGN FLAW IN LATER MODEL HONDA VEHICLES (I.E. ODYSSEY, ACCORD, CIVIC) AS CONSUMERS REPORT THE SAME PROBLEM OVER, AND OVER AGAIN. HONDA TAKES NO ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THIS REGARDLESS OF THE MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE. THERE IS NOTHING THE CONSUMER CAN DO TO PROTECT THE AC CONDENSER FROM BEING DAMAGED AGAIN BY "ROAD DEBRIS". *TR
IN OCTOBER OF 2007, ONE OF MY TIRES HAD A BLOW OUT ON THE FREEWAY, I HAVE MY VEHICLE SERVICED ON A REGULAR BASIS AND WAS NOT AWARE THAT MY TIRES WERE WORN ON THE INSIDE TREAD, THEY WERE ROTATED AT EVERY OIL CHANGE, UNEVEN WEAR WOULD HAVE BEEN EVIDENT PRIOR TO NEEDLESS REPLACEMENT. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH THE SAME DUNLOP TIRES THAT WERE ORIGINALLY ON THE CAR ALONG WITH A FRONT-END ALIGNMENT. ALL PAST VEHICLES THAT I HAVE OWNED HAVE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE ON THE TIRES BECAUSE OF THE CONSISTENT AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE OF THE VEHICLE, THEREFORE I HAD NO REASON TO EXPECT LESS FROM MY HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. FROM OCTOBER OF 2007 (NEW TIRES) THROUGH APRIL 2008 (SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001) I CONTINUED THE CONSISTENT AND REGULAR SERVICING OF MY HYBRID. THIS WOULD HAVE PUT MY NEW TIRES AT APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS OF USE. ON APRIL 22, 2009 I HAD MY 2006 CIVIC HYBRID SERVICED, INCLUDED IN THE SERVICE WAS THE OIL CHANGE, AND TIRE ROTATION. AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP, MY CAR EXHIBITED EXTREME VIBRATION. I ASSUMED THAT ONE OF THE TIRES WAS OUT OF BALANCE. I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON APRIL 24, 2009 AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY TIRES WERE EXCESSIVELY WORN, NOT ON THE WHOLE TIRE, ON THE SIDES OF THE TIRES AND THEY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION BY A TECHNICIAN, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED IN APRIL OF 2008, BUT NO RECALL ON THE CONTROL ARMS FOR 2006-07 CIVIC HYBRIDS. SERVICE BULLETIN VERSUS A RECALL, THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I WOULD NEVER HAVE KNOWINGLY DRIVEN MY VEHICLE WITH UNSAFE TIRES, YET BECAUSE I WAS NOT INFORMED AT THE TIME I HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. I WAS TRAVELING NORTH WHEN THE TIRE BLEW OUT IN OCTOBER OF 2007; I TOOK MY 4 GRANDCHILDREN TO DISNEYLAND IN THAT VEHICLE ON APRIL 7 THROUGH APRIL 9, 2009 AND I SHUDDER TO THINK OF WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED BECAUSE OF THOSE TIRES. I AM THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED AND CANNOT POSSIBLY UNDERSTAND HOW I WAS NOT INFORMED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX SEDAN. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE OVER HEATED. THERE IS A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SAFELY ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE NOT A FACTOR. A DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE REPAIR ORDER IS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 89,253.
SUN VISORS HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. I AM UNABLE TO LIFT THE VISORS BACK TO THE "UP" POSITION. I FEAR THAT THIS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THERE HAVE BEEN PEOPLE WHO HAVE ENTERED THE VEHICLE AND IT THERE HEAD BECAUSE THE VISOR IS STUCK IN THE "DOWN" POSITION.
MY SUN VISOR ON MY BRAND NEW 06 HONDA CIVIC IS BROKEN FOR THE 3RD TIME SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR BRAND NEW. *TR
DRIVING IN RAIN, WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON INTERMITTENT, AND THEY STARTED RUNNING FULL - NOT INTERMITTANT. MOVED WIPER SWITCH TO FULL, AND BACK TO INTERMITTENT, WITHOUT ANY CHANGE. MOVED WIPER SWITCH TO FAST, AND BACK TO FULL AND INTERMITTENT, AND STILL NO CHANGE. TURNED WIPERS OFF, BUT THEY KEPT RUNNING WHILE SWITCH WAS IN THE OFF POSITION. PULLED OFF HIGHWAY. MOVED SWITCH POSTION BACK AND FORTH AND THEN BACK TO OFF. WIPERS STILL KEPT RUNNING. TURNED OFF CAR, WIPERS STOPPED. WAITED A FEW MINUTES, STARTED CAR, WIPERS STARTED UP EVEN THOUGH SWITCH STILL IN OFF POSITION. WIPERS SWEPT TWICE, AND THEN FROZE IN THE FULL UP POSITION. TURNED OFF CAR AGAIN. RESTARTED CAR, WAS ABLE TO GET WIPERS TO RUN INTERMITTENT AGAIN, BUT KEPT THEM THAT WAY FOR REMAINDER OF RIDE HOME. WAS AFRAID TO CHANGE SWITCH POSITION AGAIN FOR FEAR OF COMPLETE FAILURE AND BEING STRANDED FAR FROM HOME IN THE RAIN WITH NO WIPERS. AFTER RESEARCH, I NOW SEE THAT THERE IS A HONDA TSB 07-071 DATED NOV 22, 2007 FOR THIS ISSUE THAT SUPERSEDES ANOTHER FROM OCT 19, 2007. *TR
HONDA IS AWARE OF UPPER CONTROL ARM DEFECT IN HONDA CIVIC 2006-2007, BUT HAS NOT ISSUE ANY PRODUCT UPDATE OR RECALL. FAILURE TO REPLACE THIS PARTS WILL RESULT IN UNEVEN WEAR ON THE REAR TIRES. ALSO, I BELIEVE IT MAY REDUCE THE STABILITY OF THE CAR AND THEREFORE MAY RESULT IN HAZARDOUS ACCIDENT. SO FAR NO INCIDENT OR CRASHES OR INJURIES HAVE OCCURRED. I HOPE THAT HONDA TAKES RESPONSIBILITY IN REGARD TO THIS MATTER. *TR
LAST YEAR I HAD TO HAVE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED DUE TO FAILURE AND AT THAT TIME I INFORMED THE HONDA DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIAN HAT THE RPM'S ON THE CAR WERE STAYING HIGH EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS IDLE. THE SERVICE TECH SAID THEY CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE AND SAID THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. NOW HERE WE ARE 16000 MILES LATER AND I HAVE A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE CAR MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHILE IN GEAR NO OTHER SYMPTOMS AT THIS POINT. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT ARE ONLY WILLING TO HELP ME WITH 25% OF THE BILL BECAUSE I PERFORMED MY OWN TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGE AND THE WARRANTY IS UP. THIS IS THE THIRD PROBLEM I HAVE HAD WITH THE CAR IN THE THREE YEARS I HAVE HAD IT. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AFTER ONLY 84,000 HIGHWAY MILES ON THE CAR. THE ONLY INDICATION I HAD OF A PROBLEM WAS WHEN MY CAR OVERHEATED SUDDENLY. WHEN I CHECKED THE COOLANT LEVEL, THERE WAS NOTHING THERE--DESPITE THE FACT THAT I'D HAD AN OIL CHANGE WITHIN THE PAST 4 WEEKS AND ALL FLUIDS HAD BEEN TOPPED OFF THEN. MY MECHANIC THEN DISCOVERED THAT COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THE PROBLEM COMES ON WITH VIRTUALLY NO WARNING, AND I WAS LUCKY THAT THE CAR DID NOT BREAK DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. MY MECHANIC COULD NOT THINK OF ANY REASON FOR THIS HAPPENING OTHER THAN A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. I AM NOW IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY HONDA AND APPLYING FOR AFTER-WARRANTY ASSISTANCE. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO NUMEROUS OTHER 2006 HONDA OWNERS. I ALSO FOUND THAT HONDA HAS ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (08-044) FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. IF THIS IS ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM THAT THE COMPANY HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN TO ITS SERVICE DEPARTMENTS, WHY HASN'T A RECALL OR EVEN AN OWNER NOTIFICATION BEEN ISSUED? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUN VISORS HINGES FRACTURED AND THE VISORS WOULD NOT REMAIN IN THE CLOSED, UPRIGHT POSITION. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER SEAT WOULD NOT LOCK INTO PLACE WHEN ADJUSTED. THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BACKING HAD ALSO FRACTURED WITH EXPOSED WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURES AND THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. MY 2006 CIVIC SI HAS HUGE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE CAR HAS HUGE ISSUES WITH SECOND AND THIRD GEAR, AT THIS MOMENT I HAVE NO 3RD GEAR. WE HAVE A GROUP OF ABOUT 2000 PEOPLE WHO HAVE SIGNED A PETITION TO HONDA FOR A RECALL.. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY HONDA YET. *TR

2006 HONDA CIVIC WITH A POWER STEERING ISSUE. CONSUMER STATES THAT HE WAS ADVISED THAT HIS POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING. GOT THE PROBLEM REPAIRED AND HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. DEALER STATED IT WAS A RARE PROBLEM. *KB THE DEALER REPLACED THE JOINT INLET AND CLAMP. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC SI. HE NOTICED THAT THE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT TIRES WERE LOOSING TREAD ON THE INSIDE. HE REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES IN JULY OF 2009. THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A NOISE IN THE REAR. HE WILL ADD AN ADJUSTER TO THE CONTROL ARM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000. UPDATED 12/8/09 *CN THE TIRE SHOP STATED THE CAMBER WAS OFF IN THE REAR AND THERE WAS NO ADJUSTMENT THAT COULD BE DONE. UPDATED 12/09/09. *JB
THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR KEEPS BREAKING BLOCKING MY DRIVING VISIBILITY AND HONDA NOR THE HONDA DEALERSHIPS WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OR RECALL IT. *TR
TIRE NOISE DURING DRIVING. PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE OVER 2 MONTHS. FOUND REAR TIRE INNER WEAR (CUPPING) ON DRIVER SIDE. HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND IS REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. HONDA WILL NOT COVER THE TIRE REPLACEMENT OF PAY PRO-RATED AMOUNT BECAUSE VEHICLE HAS OVER 25K MILES. I DRIVE 90% HIGHWAY AND TIRES STILL HAVE 40% LIFE REMAINING. *TR
TIRES WEAR AND CUP. MAJOR VIBRATION AND NOISE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NEWEST SET OF TIRES HAVE REAR TIRES CUPPED TO THE POINT OF NEEDING REPLACED AT 10,000 MILES. COMPANY HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE BUT NEVER INFORMED CUSTOMER. WE THOUGHT OUR FIRST TIRES WERE THE PROBLEM BUT COME TO FIND OUT THE REAR ARMS NEED TO BE REPLACED TO TRY TO FIX ISSUE. CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. WINTER OF 2007 HUSBAND DID 3 360'S ACROSS 3 LANES OF HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. *TR
HONDA USA ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS REGARDING THE EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR DUE TO DEFECTIVE OR POORLY DESIGNED REAR CAMBER ARMS TSB08-001. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM (TIRES WEARING PREMATURELY AND VEHICLE OWNERS BEING UNAWARE AS IT WAS NEVER A RECALL). I HAVE EVEN WITNESSED A DEALER HONDA HOFFMAN OF WEST SIMSBURY TELL A CUSTOMER THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY THE REAR TIRES ON THEIR CIVIC WERE WEARING OUT SO RAPIDLY AFTER PERFORMING THIS EXACT TSB ON MY VEHICLE. I CAN ONLY GUESS THEY MAKE MORE MONEY SELLING TIRES VERSUS REPLACING THE REAR CAMBER ARMS VIA THE TSB. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THE ALIGNMENT OF THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM WAS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSING THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES TO WEAR PREMATURELY. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE THE TIRES ROTATED AT EACH OIL CHANGE, AND THE FAILURE WOULD PERSIST. THE DEALER ADVISED ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89,000. 09/07 - TOOK 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO EXCESSIVE VIBRATION AT SPEED. WAS TOLD TIRES WERE CUPPING DESPITE EXCELLENT, DOCUMENTED VEHICLE MAINTENANCE (TIRE BALANCING, ALIGNMENT AND ROTATIONS INCL.). DEALERSHIP/HONDA FINALLY AGREED TO REPLACE 3 TIRES, I PAID FOR FOURTH. (DUNLOP TIRE DEFECT WAS ASSUMED CAUSE) 03/09 - VIBRATION AND TIRE NOISE BEGAN TO RECUR IN APPROX. FEB 09 BUT DIDN'T GET VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE UNTIL 3/14/09. DIAGNOSIS REVEALED CUPPING AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THAT A FEB 2009 HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN SUGGESTED TO DEALERSHIPS THAT IF THEIR CIVIC OWNERS COMPLAINED OF EXCESSIVE/PREMATURE TIRE WEAR THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS WITH THE NEWLY REDESIGNED ARMS. THE DEALERSHIP REP STATED THAT SINCE THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE NO RECALL WAS REQUIRED. I DISAGREE THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. MY TIRES, AFTER ONLY 15,000 MI. ARE SERIOUSLY WORN. SO MUCH SO THAT HONDA IS REFUSING TO REPLACE OR EVEN GIVE PARTIAL CREDIT. IF THESE TIRES WOULD HAVE BLOWN ON THE ROAD COSTLY PROPERTY DAMAGE, SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN FATALITIES COULD OCCUR. IF THIS DEFECT WARRANTED THE REDESIGNING OF AN INTEGRAL PIECE OF THE VEHICLES SUSPENSION SYSTEM, THEN I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO MANDATE THAT HONDA REPLACE THESE PARTS IN ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. THE ONLY REASON I FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS WAS BECAUSE OF THE VIBRATION ISSUE, NOT FROM NOTIFICATION FROM HONDA. WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE THAT DON'T GO TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE? HOW LARGE DOES THE POTENTIAL LOSS OF PROPERTY/LIFE HAVE TO BE BEFORE THE PUBLIC IS WARNED OF THIS? *TR

I TOOK IT TO SOUTH BAY HONDA (WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR) AND WAS TOLD THAT A PEBBLE HIT THE CONDENSER, RENDERING MY A/C USELESS. (WOW. MUST HAVE BEEN SOME PEBBLE)... I WAS TOLD IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. ESTIMATED COST: $1214.00 I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND HUNDREDS OF CASES OF HONDA VEHICLES WITH THE EXACT SAME COMPLAINT ABOUT THE A/C. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE DESIGN FLAW!! THE FRAGILE CONDENSER IS NOT PROPERLY PROTECTED AGAINST DEBRIS LIKE IT SHOULD BE. DID HONDA, A SUPPOSEDLY "TRUSTWORTHY" AND "REPUTABLE" COMPANY, OVERLOOK THE FACT THAT ROAD DEBRIS IS UNAVOIDABLE? SEEMS THAT A SIMPLE PROTECTIVE SCREEN WOULD HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THIS IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO HAPPEN OVER AND OVER AGAIN UNLESS HONDA HAS A RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM... OR AT THE VERY LEAST REPAIR THE PROBLEM ON CARS THAT ARE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, WHICH IS EXHIBITING EXCESSIVE AND UNEVEN REAR TIRE WEAR. THE TIRES WERE INITIALLY REPLACED IN FEB. 2008, AND AGAIN IN JUNE 2008 (ALONG WITH THE REAR CONTROL ARMS). NOW, IN FEBRUARY 2009, THE REAR TIRES ARE WORN OUT AGAIN ON THE INSIDE, WITH CUPPING AND SCALLOPING OF THE TREAD. THESE TIRES HAVE LESS THAN 20,000 MILES SINCE NEW, AND HAVE BEEN ROTATED. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CIVIC, AND THIS PROBLEM IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED OR FIXED BY HONDA. *TR
I'M AN OWNER OF A HONDA CIVIC EX '06, WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2006. AFTER GETTING A FLAT TIRE (REAR RIGHT SIDE), MY CAR WAS TAKEN IN TO ANOTHER DEALER (NOT HONDA) AND HAD ALL 4 TIRES REPLACED. THE CAR HAD 39K MILES ON IT. AT THE TIME, IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE CAR SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO HONDA TO BE INSPECTED FOR UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. I SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THAT MODEL/YEAR OF CAR AND THERE WAS EVEN A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT IT. AFTER THE INSPECTION, HONDA STATED THAT YES INDEED, THE UNEVEN TIRE WEAR WAS DUE TO A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND THAT IT MUST BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HONDA WOULDN'T PAY FOR IT AT THE TIME SINCE MY WARRANTY HAD ALREADY EXPIRED. I JUST WANT TO WRITE THIS NOTIFICATION BECAUSE THEY SHOULD NOT BE SELLING CARS THAT HAS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD (ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING IN RAIN OR SNOW). *TR

AT 55K MILES, WE HAVE JUST INSTALLED OUR THIRD FULL SET OF TIRES ON 2006 HONDA CIVIC LX. THE ORIGINAL TIRES LASTED APPROX 35K. WE HEARD LOUD GROWLING FROM REAR TIRES, INITIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS, THEN PROGRESSIVELY LOWER SPEEDS. THIS WAS ACCOMPANIED BY VEHICLE VIBRATION WHICH SEEMED TO INCREASE EXPONENTIALLY W/INCREASED SPEED. DISCOVERED ONLINE ABOUT ISSUES W/CIVIC'S REAR CONTROL ARMS. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALER, WHO ADVISED THE TIRES WERE UNEVENLY WORN. IN FACT THERE WERE COMPLETELY BALD SPOTS, WHILE APPROPRIATE TREAD REMAINED ELSEWHERE ON EACH TIRE. DEALER AGREED TO REPLACE CONTROL ARMS ONLY AFTER WE REPLACED THE TIRES.. WE BORE ENTIRE COST OF REPLACEMENT TIRES. AFTER SIX MONTHS AND 20K MILES, INCLUDING ONE TIRE ROTATION, THE NOISE AND VIBRATION RETURNED, THIS TIME ON FRONT END. COULD THIS BE BECAUSE THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE WORE UNEVENLY WHILE INITIALLY ON BACK? TOOK CAR BACK TO HONDA DEALER, WHO SAID "TIRES WERE WEARING UNEVENLY; THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED." NO ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF ANY ISSUES W/CIVIC MODEL. TIRE DEALER PRO-RATED REPLACEMENT TIRES [STILL A BUNCH OF $$$], SAID THEY'D NEVER HAD THAT "BETTER" [70K] MODEL OF TIRE WEAR SO UNEVENLY. [CUPPING/FEATHERING] IT SEEMS HONDA'S "FIX" WASN'T REALLY. I AM GENUINELY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY; WE WILL LIKELY SELL THE CAR ASAP. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT SOME CIVIC OWNER OUT THERE WILL BE UNABLE TO AFFORD REPLACEMENT TIRES AND JUST CONTINUE TO DRIVE ON WORTHLESS RUBBER. I PURCHASED A 2006 HONDA CIVIC NEW FROM DEALER WITH 100K MILE WARRANTY. THEY WILL NOT FIX THIS ISSUE. THE SUSPENSION IS FAULTY, CAUSING THE REAR TWO TIRES TO WEAR OUT ON THE INSIDE OF THE TREAD WITHIN 15K MILES. I'VE SPENT MONEY FOR 4 SETS OF TIRES SO FAR, AND THEY WON'T FIX IT. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO OUR REPAIR FACILITY (SPECIALISTS IN HONDA/ACURA AUTOMOBILES). THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK WHICH WAS CORROBORATED BY THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER WHERE WE HAD THE CAR TOWED IN ORDER FOR HONDA TO ACCESS THE SITUATION. THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR STATION THAT WE ORIGINALLY TOOK THE CAR HAD LOOKED UP BULLETINS AND FOUND HONDA TSB 08-044, THAT WAS ISSUED 7/25/08. WE TALKED TO HONDA AND THE REPAIR AMOUNTS TO $3,300. THEY HAVE OFFERED US TO PAY FOR THE PARTS ($2,000) AND US THE LABOR ($1300). I HAVE LOOKED UP THIS TSB ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MANY PEOPLE (THERE'S A POSTING OF AN '08 CIVIC THAT HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN WITH 7,000 MILES ON IT) . THERE WERE OTHERS AT VARIOUS MILEAGES UNDER THE 60K, SEVERAL OVER AND ONE AT 96K WHERE THAT OWNER FELT HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR IT. THE OFFER HONDA MADE TO US IS UNACCEPTABLE TO BOTH MY WIFE AND I AND WE THINK YOUR ORGANIZATION SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY. I BROUGHT IT TO ANOTHER HONDA DEALERSHIP, WHERE IS STILL SITTING, BECAUSE I AM IN A CATCH 22. HONDA CLAIMS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE AIRBAG SENSORS; THEY ARE NOT DEFECTIVE. I FILED AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT WITH HONDA AMERICA AND THEY TOLD ME TO CONSULT MY INSURANCE. MY INSURANCE DOESN'T SEE HOW THEY CAN COVER IT. EVEN WITH AN ATTORNEY, A HONDA REPRESENTATIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THAT HONDA WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE TECHNICIANS AT THE DEALERSHIP CONTRIVED AN ABSURD IDEA THAT MY FIANCE AND I MUST HAVE BEEN PLAYING TUG - OF - WAR WITH THE CAR DOOR (ME ON THE INSIDE AND HE ON THE OUTSIDE OR VISE VERSA). IF THAT WERE THE CASE, ONE OF US WOULD BE BATTERED AND BRUISED. I ARRIVE AT MY POINT.
