I AM WRITING TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THE DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE I HAD RECENTLY WITH MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC. 1.ON NOVEMBER 26, 2008, THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED NEW TIRES SOON. I THEN MENTIONED TO HIM THAT THE TIRES WERE VERY LOUD AND THE CAR SEEMED TO BE MAKING EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE. HE SAID NOTHING ABOUT MY COMMENT. 2.ON DECEMBER 21, 2008, I NOTICED THAT THE TIRES ON THE CIVIC WERE WORN DOWN VERY UNEVENLY AND ONE OF THEM WAS BUCKLING. I DID NOT WANT TO DRIVE WITH THOSE TIRES ANY LONGER DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES AND PROCEEDED TO BUY 4 NEW TIRES THE FOLLOWING DAY, DECEMBER 22, 2008. 3.AFTER THE TIRE PURCHASE AND REVIEWING HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001 (DATED APRIL 11, 2008), I DECIDED TO RETURN TO MY HONDA DEALER AS I BECAME CONCERNED THAT THIS WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING OF A LARGER PROBLEM. AS IT TURNS OUT, I WAS RIGHT. 4.THE SERVICE BULLETIN DESCRIBES EXACTLY WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH MY CAR. AS THE CAR WAS AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THE WORK WAS COVERED AT NO COST TO ME. HOWEVER, I PAID FOR 4 NEW TIRES AND I THINK AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC SHOULD COVER THIS COST. IN ADDITION, THIS IS A REVISED SERVICE BULLETIN FROM FEBRUARY 8, 2008 AND NO ONE EVER INFORMED ME THAT MY CAR MIGHT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. CLEARLY THERE WAS A DEFECT WITH THIS CAR. THIS CAR WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND THE ORIGINAL TIRES SHOULD HAVE LASTED WELL OVER 30,000 MILES. THE SERVICE ADVISOR WHO ASSISTED ME ON DECEMBER 22, 2008 INSISTED THAT THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE NOR DID IT WARRANT A RECALL ON THE 2006 HONDA CIVIC. AS A PROACTIVE CONSUMER, IT WAS MY GOOD FORTUNE TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE SERVICE BULLETIN, AND POINT OUT THAT THESE 'SYMPTOMS' WERE OCCURRING WITH MY CAR. IF I HAD NOT HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM REPAIRED AT THE DEALER, THE DEFECT WOULD HAVE RUINED MY BRAND NEW SET OF TIRES. BY THAT TIME, THE CAR WOULD NO LONGER BE UNDER WARRANTY AND I WOULD HAVE INCURRED THE COST TO FIX IT WHEN HONDA WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ENGINE SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER BOLT BROKE. TENSIONER FAILED AND BELT LOCKED UP, CAUSING LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND ENGINE SHUT OFF CAUSING A DANGEROUS SITUATION. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP REPLACED TENSIONER BOLTS. *TR
AT 26,000 MILES I HAD TO REPLACE TIRES ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC DUE TO NOISE COMING FROM REAR AND CUPPING ON REAR TIRES. I HOPE A RECALL IS ISSUED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! *TR
SUN VISOR STARTED TO SPLIT OPEN TWO YEARS AGO AT ONLY 30,000 MILES, PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE, AND NOW IT IS AT THE POINT WHERE IT JUST DANGLES IN FRONT OF THE EYES AND WON'T EVEN STAY PUT. I HAVE TO MOVE IT TO THE SIDE EVERYTIME I'M DRIVING. APPARENTLY, IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, SO I'LL HAVE TO PAY FROM MY POCKET TO GET IT FIXED.
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS 2006 HONDA CIVIC, WHICH I JUST PUT ON A 3RD SET OF NEW TIRES BEFORE THE CAR HAS REACHED 90,000 MILES. EVEN WITH PERFECT ALIGNMENT, THEY ARE WEARING BALD ON THE INSIDE OF THE TIRE, THEREFORE, A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. THE CAR SWAYS IN THE BACK. *TR
I BACKED UP MY CAR AND LIQUID WAS LEAKING OUT AT A FAST RATE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO BREAKAWAY HONDA. THEY CALLED AND SAID MY ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED. THIS IS A 2006 CAR! I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO A LARGE NUMBER OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. I HAD TO PAY $881 AND DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY ANYTHING. THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. *TR
ENGINE CRACKED IN 2006 HONDA CIVIC. HONDA ADMITS THAT IT IS A DEFECT BUT WON'T ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A COUNTRY ROAD AT ABOUT 55 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG WENT OFF WITHOUT PROVOCATION. IT SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN HAD GONE OFF BESIDE MY LEFT EAR. I WAS STUNNED AND MY EAR FELT LIKE IT WAS FULL OF COTTON. THERE WERE NO CARS IN SIGHT AT THE TIME AND NO CURBS. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AFTER REALIZING WHAT HAD HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS FULL OF DUST AND MY SEATBELT WAS SO TIGHT THAT I FELT LIKE IT WAS CRUSHING ME. THE SIDE SEAT AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED AS WELL. I TOOK MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD BEEN SET OFF BY DAMAGE DONE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR BY MERELY DRIVING OVER A CURB, WHICH HAPPENED ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO. HONDA REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS WAS NOT THE NORMAL FUNCTION OF THE AIRBAG AND REFUSED TO COVER THE COST OF FIXING IT, ALTHOUGH IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. MY INSURANCE COMPANY REFUSED TO PAY BECAUSE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED. HONDA'S ESTIMATED COST OF REPAIR WAS $2787 AND THEY CHARGED ME $51.29 TO GIVE ME THAT ESTIMATE. MY CAR IS STILL NOT REPAIRED. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING THROUGH A NEW NEIGHBORHOOD THAT WAS STILL UNDEVELOPED. THE PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WHEN I HIT A RAISED SEWER DRAIN WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I WOULD ESTIMATE APPROX. SPEED OF 10MPH. THE SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AND HIT MY WIFE IN HER HEAD AND ARM. SHE INCURRED A HEADACHE AND BRUISE ON HER RIGHT ARM. THE INCIDENT FILLED THE VEHICLE WITH THE AIRBAG DUST AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AS MY WIFE WAS SCREAMING AND CRYING IN PAIN. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED AT SUCH A LOW RATE OF SPEED AND WITH IMPACT ONLY TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF THE CAR PILLARS AND INJURY TO MY WIFE. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC LX WITH 20,500 MILES. REAR TIRES ARE NEARLY BALD. DEALER INDICATES THAT THERE IS A KNOWN REAR SUSPENSION PROBLEM. HONDA NOTIFIED DEALERS OF PROBLEM IN APRIL 2008 AND DEALERS ARE ADDRESSING CONCERNS WHEN THE VEHICLES ARE BROUGHT IN. MY SON DRIVES THIS VEHICLES TO AND FROM COLLEGE AND WE BOUGHT THE CAR FOR SAFETY REASONS. WE EXPECT THAT HONDA WILL REPLACE THE WORN TIRES SINCE IT WAS THEIR DEFECT BUT THE DEALER HAS NOT OFFERED TO REPLACE THE TIRES. *TR
DESIGN DEFECT OF SUNVISOR ON 2006 HONDA CIVIC LEADS TO FAILURE OF SUN VISOR TO STAY IN UP POSITION. SUNVISOR FALLS DOWN TO BLOCK DRIVERS VISION. PROBLEM IS WELL DOCUMENTED BY MANY OWNERS ON WEB SITES SUCH AS HTTP://WWW.USRECALLNEWS.COM/2007/09/MAJOR-HONDA-CIVIC-RECALL-OF-2006-AND-2007-MODELS.HTML TO MY KNOWLEDGE HONDA HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL OR REDESIGNED THE DEFECTIVE PART. *TR
DURING WARMER TIMES OF THE YEAR (60-90 F), MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WILL SUDDENLY LOSE 75-100% OF THE CHARGE IN THE HIGH-VOLTAGE HYBRID IMA BATTERY WITHOUT WARNING. THE IMA HYBRID SYSTEM THEN FAILS TO FUNCTION AND LEAVES THE VEHICLE DEPENDENT UPON THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE ENTIRELY FOR PROPULSION. WHILE THE BATTERY DOES HAVE SAFEGUARDS BUILT IN TO PROTECT IT DURING EXTREMELY HIGH TEMPERATURES, IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, I HAVE HAD THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY TEMPORARILY FAIL AT TEMPERATURES AS LOW AS 60 DEGREES F, WHILE GARAGED AT MY HOME OR PARKED IN A SHADED, LOWER SPACE IN A PARKING DECK. DURING COLDER PERIODS, THE PROBLEM APPEARS INTERMITTENTLY AT MOST. THE VEHICLE MUST THEN RECHARGE THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY, WHICH CAN TAKE VARYING AMOUNTS OF TIME FROM SEVERAL MINUTES TO OVER A HALF HOUR. THE IMA HYBRID SYSTEM WILL FUNCTION ON A LIMITED LEVEL WHEN THE HYBRID BATTERY IS PARTIALLY CHARGED, THOUGH OBTAINING FULL FUNCTION OF THE IMA SYSTEM FOLLOWING A "CRASH" CAN BE A PROLONGED EXPERIENCE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE CIVIC HYBRID IS MARKEDLY SLOWER WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF THE ELECTRIC MOTOR, CREATING A HAZARD IN ADVERSE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS, SUCH AS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC. I HAVE EXPERIENCED AT LEAST 1 NEAR MISS WHEN THE ELECTRIC ASSIST FAILED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE ATTEMPTING SUCH A TURN. CURRENTLY, HONDA HAS NOT ISSUED ANY TSBS OR RECALLS REGARDING THE ISSUE. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. I HAVE UNUSUAL TIRE WEAR ON THE REAR TIRES. I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN SENT TO HONDA DEALERS, BUT PUBLIC WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THUS, MANY OF US HAVE TO BUY TIRES PREMATURELY, NOT TO MENTION, PERHAPS IN DANGER OF BLOW-UP, ETC. *TR

2006 HONDA CIVIC FLAT SPOTS IN REAR TIRES 3 SETS OF TIRES HAVE BEEN PUT ON CAR .HONDA IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROBLEM WITH REAR SUSPENSION PROBLEMS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE OWNED A 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX FOR A LITTLE OVER 2 AND A 1/2 YEARS NOW. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AGO, I NOTICED THAT MY VEHICLE WAS LEAKING ENGINE COOLANT. I SPOKE WITH A TECHNICIAN AT MY DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN. WHEN I DID, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS A "HAIR-LINE FRACTURE" IN THE ENGINE BLOCK THAT WAS CAUSING ENGINE COOLANT TO LEAK AND ALSO TO MIX WITH THE OIL IN THE ENGINE. MY VEHICLE AT THE TIME HAD ONLY 26,731 MILES ON IT, SO THE DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE AT NO CHARGE. ON TOP OF THE ENGINE TROUBLE, I HAVE ALSO HAD TO GET THE WINDSHIELD WIPER FLUID PUMP REPLACED AND ALSO TWO SUN VISORS INSIDE THE VEHICLE THAT FELL APART REPLACED AS WELL. ALL REPLACEMENTS, LUCKILY, WERE PROVIDED AT NO COST BY THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ON 2 LANE HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH. NO WARNING OF A PENDING PROBLEM. HALF OF THE FRONT BUMPER CAME LOOSE FROM THE FRAME AND FELL DOWN AND STRUCK THE PAVEMENT, THEN BEGAN BOUNCING UP AND DOWN, TEARING THINGS UP. LOUD NOISE LIKE PIECE OF TIRE FLAPPING IN WHEEL WELL. WE STOPPED AND INVESTIGATED THE DAMAGE. COULD NOT DRIVE OVER 35 MPH TO THE NEXT TOWN, SOME 20 MILES AWAY. REACHED TOWN AND BOUGHT AND USED DUCT TAPE TO HOLD THE FENDER UP OFF THE GROUND SO WE COULD DRIVE HOME. WE THEN TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL HONDA DEALER. WE WERE TOLD THE UNDERNEATH PLASTIC CLIPS AND OTHER COMPONENTS WERE DAMAGED AND THAT THE CAR MUST HAVE BEEN RUN INTO A CURB OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I INVESTIGATED FURTHER, AS I KNEW THAT THE CAR HAD NEVER HIT A CURB. IT HAS, HOWEVER, MADE SCRAPING NOISES WHEN PASSING OVER A TYPICAL PARKING LOT WHEEL STOP. IN MY JUDGMENT, THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSE BY THE FACT THAT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE DOES NOT CLEAR WHEEL STOPS, AND HITTING WHEEL STOPS HAS SEVERELY DAMAGED THE PLASTIC COMPONENTS UNDER THE FRONT END, RESULTING IN THE BUMPER FALLING OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEED. HAD BOTH SIDES OF THE BUMPER COME LOOSE, I WOULD HAVE RUN OVER THE BUMPER, PROBABLY LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND BECOMING INVOLVED IN A WRECK. LOOKING UNDER THE VEHICLE, YOU CAN SEE THAT BOTH SIDES HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY SCRAPING OVER PARKING LOT WHEEL STOPS. WE WERE LUCKY TO HAVE SURVIVED. I CONSIDER THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE: 1) WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED; 2) PARKING WITH YOUR WHEELS AGAINST A WHEEL STOP IN A PARKING LOT IS A NORMAL PRACTICE AND IS NOT SOMETHING ONE WOULD NORMALLY WORRY ABOUT. REPAIRS EXCEEDED $485 AT A PRIVATE COLLISION REPAIR CENTER AND WOULD HAVE COST APPROXIMATELY $800 AT THE DEALER. REPAIRS: REPLACED CLIPS, SOME PLASTIC COMPONENTS UNDER FRONT END, AND REPAINTED BUMPER. THE DEALER REFUSED ANY WARRANTY COVERAGE. *TR
2006 AND 2007 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISOR HAS A DEFECT. IT SEPARATE AND BREAK WHEN THE INSIDE TEMPERATURE REACH A HIGH TEMPERATURE. *TR
SUN VISOR ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HAS CRACKED OPEN AND JUST HANGS THERE IMPAIRING MY VISION OF THE ROAD. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENS, THE FIRST TIME WAS ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND NOW IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I AM OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I WONDER HOWE MANY TIMES WE AS OWNERS HAVE TO KEEP PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT DOES NOT WORK. CLEARLY HONDA IS NOT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM AS THEY ARE MAKING MONEY OFF OF US AND ARE AFRAID OF LOSING SOME. IF THE VISOR IMPEDES PROPER VISUAL OF THE ROAD WOULDN'T THIS BE A SAFETY HAZARD? DOES ANYONE HAVE TO GET HURT ON THE ROAD IN ORDER FOR THIS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF? *TR
MY SUN VISORS CONTINUALLY BREAK ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED THEM FOR FREE; HOWEVER, IT IS A HASSLE TO GET THEM TO DO IT. THEY TRY TO CHARGE ME UNTIL I GET FUMING MAD AND TELL THEM THAT THIS IS MY XX NUMBER OF TRIPS BACK TO THEIR DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO HAVE YOUR SUN VISOR CRACK OR SPLIT AND HANG DOWN IN YOUR FACE WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. THE SUN VISORS USED BY HONDA ARE INFERIOR AND NEED TO BE RECALLED AND REPLACED WITH A BETTER VERSION. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX AND AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN AFTERNOON TRAFFIC THE SUN WAS SHINING I MY EYES SO I WENT TO PUT THE VISOR DOWN AND IT FELL OFF IN MY LAP AND I ALMOST RAN INTO ANOTHER CAR. I HAVE NOT FIXED THIS BECAUSE I FELT LIKE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL IT'S A NEW CAR. WHY DID HONDA FIX THE LATER YEARS IF THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP US THESE NEW VISORS ARE $180.00 . *TR
WE BOUGHT A 2006 HONDA CIVIC IN SEPT. 2005. IN 2007 WE BEGAN HAVING VIBRATION PROBLEMS, FOUND WE WERE HAVE TIRE ISSUES WHEN WE WENT TO OUR LOCAL TIRE SHOP, WE REPLACED THE TIRES, WE MENTIONED THIS TO THE DEALER WHEN WE WENT IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE, THEY SEEMED UNCONCERNED. IN 2008 WE HAD A RECURRENCE OF THE SAME PROBLEM AND WENT TO OUR SEARS STORE, WHO CONFIRMED TIRE WEAR, AND WE AGAIN REPLACED THE TIRES. THIS SEEMED ODD, SO WE THEN MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR INSPECTION. AT THIS TIME THE DEALER TOLD US OF A "SPECIAL BULLETIN" FOR A SUSPENSION DESIGN FLAW, NOT A RECALL, AND WE TOOK THE CAR IN FOR THE "KIT" UPDATE, WHICH WE HAD TO PAY FOR AS IT WAS NOT A RECALL! WE ARE NOW HAVING THE SAME "VIBRATION" PROBLEM, HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER, WHO TELLS US THE SUSPENSION IS FINE AND RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE TWO REAR TIRES FOR "CUPPING" ON ONE OF THEM. WE ARE WELL UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE TIRES BUT IN ALL LIKELIHOOD AS THE SUSPENSION IS PROBABLY THE ISSUE(PER SEARS ON THE PHONE), THEY WON'T BE COVERED. SO.. ONCE AGAIN WE ARE REPLACING TIRES, WHICH WE ARE CERTAIN ARE WEARING DOWN DUE TO A SUSPENSION PROBLEM (SHORT REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS)AFTER READING THE ONLINE FORUMS WHERE EVERY PROBLEM WE HAVE AND HAVE HAD IS BEING DISCUSSED FOR OUR MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. PLEASE HELP US MAKE HONDA AWARE THAT THEY NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR CAUSING COSTLY TIRE REPLACEMENTS. APPARENTLY THE SOLUTION IS REPLACEMENT OF THE CONTROL ARMS AND HONDA WILL NOT BEAR THE REPLACEMENT COST OF TIRES THAT THEIR DESIGN FLAW HAS AND CONTINUES TO CAUSE. HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *TR
ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2008, I BEGAN MY DRIVE TO WORK AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED ON ME (NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER) WHILE I WAS DRIVING 35 MPH! LUCKILY, I WAS ON A SIDE STREET AND ABLE TO STOP THE CAR EVEN THOUGH I COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I WAS ABOUT TO TURN ONTO A HIGHWAY! MY CAR IS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FOR THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE PART. WHAT SCARES ME IS THE THOUGHT OF WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WHILE TRAVELING AT A HIGH SPEED. TO ME, THIS SITUATION HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BEING ON PAR WITH THE DANGER AND FATALITIES INCURRED BY OWNERS OF FORD EXPLORERS SOME YEARS AGO (E.G., TIRES). I THINK IT WOULD BE VERY IMPORTANT TO SEE IF OTHER OWNERS OF 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRIDS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THEIR STEERING WHEELS LOCKING UP WHILE DRIVING AND WHETHER THERE HAVE BEEN MAJOR FATALITIES/ACCIDENTS AS A RESULT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I HEARD A SQUEALING NOISE, THEN THE SMELL OF RUBBER BURNING, AND THEN LOSS OF POWER FROM THE ENGINE. WHEN I PULLED OVER, THERE WAS SMOKE COMING OUT FROM THE SIDES OF THE HOOD AND I DID NOT OPEN IT. I CALLED AAA AND THEY TOWED ME TO A DEALERSHIP FOR THE CAR TO BE REPAIRED. WHEN THE DEALER ADDED ENGINE COOLANT TO THE CAR, IT RAN RIGHT THROUGH AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE DEALER SENT IT OUT TO A MACHINE SHOP TO SEE IF THE CYLINDER HEAD COULD BE SAVED. DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT CAUSED BY LACK OF COOLANT, THE DIP STICK MELTED AS WELL AS THE SPARK PLUGS AND OTHER COMPONENTS OF THE ENGINE. THE DEALER HAD TO INSTALL A BRAND NEW ENGINE BLOCK, CYLINDER HEAD, NEW SPARK PLUGS, NEW TIMING CHAIN AND OTHER PARTS. THE COST WAS OVER $6000! IT HAD ONLY 80,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS 27 MONTHS OLD. I AVERAGE 100 MILES PER DAY TO GET TO AND FROM WORK VIA THE FREEWAY, 3000 MILES PER MONTH, 36,000 MILES PER YEAR. I HAD THE INTERMEDIATE SERVICE DONE AT 47000 MILES AND ANOTHER ONE AT 70000. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT AFTER ONLY 80000 MILES AN ENGINE WOULD GIVE OUT LIKE THAT. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT AND THE MAINTENANCE MINDER ON THE DASH NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE ENGINE OVERHEATING OR NO COOLANT. WHEN I GOT HOME AFTER THE INCIDENT, I FOUND A POOL OF BRIGHT BLUE FLUID ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. I THOUGHT IT WAS WINDOW WASHER FLUID, BUT IT WAS THE ENGINE COOLANT! DEALER SAID IT MAY HAVE BEEN A BAD SEAL AT THE BASE OF THE COOLANT RESERVOIR. THE CAR TOOK A LITTLE OVER A WEEK TO FIX AND IT'S RUNNING FINE NOW. *TR
HONDA CIVIC 2006 PURCHASED IN THE FALL OF 2007, ATTEMPTED TO USE THE AIR IN THE SUMMER OF 2008 AND NOTHING. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THERE WAS A PIN HOLE IN THE CONDENSER, PROBABLY CAUSED BY A SMALL PEBBLE, WHICH IN-TURN CAUSED ALL OF THE FREON TO LEAK OUT. MY DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR IS DEFECTIVE AND HANGS RIGHT IN MY LINE OF VISION WHEN DRIVING. THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID THIS IS TO TAPE IT TO THE CEILING OF THE CAR. IN TALKING WITH OTHER HONDA CIVIC OWNERS, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A PRODUCT DEFECT. MY CONCERN IS THAT IT IMPEDES SAFE DRIVING, BUT IS COSTLY TO FIX. *TR
MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HAS 55,000 MILES ON IT. I WENT TO DROP MY DAUGHTER OFF AT KARATE WHEN STEAM CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I BROUGHT IT DOWN THE STREET TO A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, HE LOOKED AT THE CAR AND FOUND IT HAD A CRACKED BLOCK. IN HIS OPINION IT WAS THE CASE OF A DEFECTIVE CASTING. I CONTACTED MY DEALER , AND AFTER FIGHTING OVER WHO WOULD PAY FOR TOWING THEY TOWED IT TO THE DEALER THEY ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE BLOCK WAS CRACKED. THEY TRIED TO MAKE ME PAY FOR THE DEFECT AND WHEN THEIR MECHANIC FOUND OUT THE CAR HAS A 5 YEAR 60,000 MILE WARRANTY THEY TURNED AROUND AND WILL REPLACE THE ENGINE FOR FREE. MY CONCERN IS IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING THERE WAS SO MUCH STEAM THAT I PROBABLY WOULD NOT SEE WHERE I WAS DRIVING. *TR

THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS IN MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC COUP DEPLOYED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE INITIAL INSPECTION FROM THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE PURCHASED ,(HONDA OF LISE) OR THE EVENTUAL REPAIR SHOP WHO WAS RECOMMENDED BY HARTFORD INSURANCE COULD FIND NO REASON FOR THE DEPLOYMENT. THE ONLY COMMENT FROM HONDA OF AMERICA WAS THAT IT WAS NOT A "DEFECT", NO CAUSE WAS GIVEN BY ANY HONDA ASSOCIATE AT ANY TIME. THE REPAIR SHOP (TERRY'S IN FRANKFORT IL), WAS VERY CONCERNED BECAUSE RELOADING THE AIR BAGS WAS NOT AN ISSUE, BUT KNOWING WHETHER THE CAUSE WAS RESOLVED WAS AN ISSUE WITH THEM. THEY ARE A CERTIFIED SHOP WITH HARTFORD INSURANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 27,300 MILES AND WAS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD. LUCKILY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT A VERY LOW RATE OF SPEED (5 - 10 MPH), AFTER PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN. SEVERAL WEEK EARLIER WE HAD DRIVEN FROM FLORIDA TO CHICAGO WITH NO INCIDENTS. THEY PERFORMED A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPLACE THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND DID ALIGNMENT. THE INCORRECT PARTS WERE INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY. HOWEVER, THE BAD PARTS ALLOWED THE REAR TIRES TO 'CUP' CAUSING THE NOISE. THE OVERHEAD VISORS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WILL NOT GO BACK UP TO THE ORIGINAL RESTING POSITION. WHEN THEY ARE PULLED DOWN, A GAP FORMS BETWEEN THE HARD PLASTIC PORTION AND THE CENTER PORTION. NORMALLY, WHEN THEY ARE PUT IN THE NORMAL RESTING POSITION THE GAP CLOSES AND CREATES A POPPING SOUND. CURRENTLY, THE GAP WON'T CLOSE ANYMORE. I HAD THIS PROBLEM BEFORE WITH THE VISOR ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AND A HONDA RETAILER CAR SHOP REPLACED THE VISOR. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR MORE IN THE SUMMER MONTHS. *TR
REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS ON 2006/2007 CIVICS WERE MANUFACTURED TOO SHORT YET INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY AND SOLD IN NEW CARS. THIS, IN TURN, CAUSED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE TO SLIDE AND KICK OUT WHILE IN TURNS, ESPECIALLY IN THE RAIN. IT ALSO CAUSED THE REAR TIRES TO WEAR EXCESSIVELY FAST. I HAD TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER 3 TIMES BEFORE THEY ADMITTED THEY HAD ISSUED A TSB THAT GAVE THE DEALERS THE OK TO REPLACE THE PARTS, PROPERLY ALIGN THE CAR, AND COVER THE TIRES ONLY IF IT HAD LESS THAN 25,000 MILES ON IT. I FIND THIS TO BE A VERY DANGEROUS PRACTICE ON HONDAS PART AND FEEL A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN. TSBS ARE ONLY DISTRIBUTED TO THE DEALERS, NOT THE END CONSUMER. THEREFORE IF A AN OWNER DOESNT GO TO THE DEALER, THEY ARE NEVER AWARE THE CAR IS UNSAFE. MY REQUEST IS TO MAKE HONDA ISSUE A RECALL OF THE EFFECTED CARS, NOT JUST ISSUE A TSB WHEREAS ITS THE SAME AS A YOU-CALL AND MAKE THE OWNERS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RAPID TIRE WEAR $. SHAME ON HONDA.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR DROPPED DOWN AND WOULD NOT GO BACK UP. THE VISOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. A MONTH LATER, THE VISOR FELL AGAIN. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THE DEALER WAS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THE PROBLEM AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 30,000.
