2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID DURING HOT WEATHER THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS OPERATED ON THE COLDEST SETTING, THIS CAUSED THE HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY TO LOOSE CHARGE .WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR LOST POWER AND HAD TROUBLE GETTING UP TO SPEED (I WAS ALMOST HIT BY ANOTHER CAR COMING UP IN THE LANE) THE CAR WAS TAKEN INTO THE DEALER ON 7/17, 8/14, 8/18, 8/27, 9/9 THROUGH 9/30/08 DURING WHICH TIME NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND WITH THE CAR. ON 9/30/08 I TOOK A TEST DRIVE WITH THE TECHNICIAN AND WITHIN 5 MINUTES HE WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. UPON RETURNING TO THE DEALER HIS MANAGER TOLD HIM NOT TO DOCUMENT HIS FINDINGS BECAUSE HONDA, ALTHOUGH AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, DID NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM AND BECAUSE I COULD NOT SELL THE CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM TO SOMEONE ELSE I TRADED THE CAR IN. I LATER FOUND THE CAR ON THE USED CAR LOT FOR SALE. *TR
BOTH SUN VISORS ON 2006 HONDA CIVIC HAVE BROKEN. THE DRIVER'S SIDE BROKE AT ~59,000, FIXED AND BROKE AGAIN AT 82,000. THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR IS CURRENTLY HANGING IN THE LINE OF SIGHT AND READY TO FALL OFF. IT SPLIT APART AT THE TOP SEAM. BOTH VISORS DO NOT SIT IN THE CLOSED POSITION PROPERLY WHICH CAUSES THEM TO CONSTANTLY BE IN THE DRIVER'S LINE OF SIGHT WHEN DRIVING. VISORS REMAIN IN THE OPEN POSITION - UNABLE TO CLOSE WHEN NOT NEEDED WHICH IMPAIRS DRIVING VISION. RECALL???? *TR
1) SINCE I'VE OWNED MY CAR, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE A FAULTY VISOR..AND EACH TIME IT GETS HOT OUTSIDE, MY VISOR ACTS UP AND ENDS UP BREAKING AND HANGING IN FRONT OF MY FACE WHILE I DRIVE. 2) EVERY SUMMER IT WON'T WORK PROPERLY AND EVENTUALLY IT BREAKS REQUIRING IT TO BE REPLACED. 3) YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO REPLACE IT EACH TIME THIS HAPPENS. AND IT'S UNPREDICTABLE AS TO WHEN IT'S GOING TO BREAK. THERE IS NO FIX TO PREVENT IT FROM HAPPENING. THEY NEED TO COME UP WITH A REDESIGN THAT IS NOT FAULTY. HONDA DOES HAVE THE PART, BUT NOW THAT MY WARRANTY IS UP, I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT EACH TIME IT BREAKS. THAT JUST DOESN'T SEEM FAIR. *TR
REAR SUSPENSION, PREMATURE TIRE WEAR: 2006 CIVIC SI, TURNED DOWN AT DEALER EVEN WITH WARRANTY IN HAND AT ABOUT 30,000 MILES FOR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF REAR CONTROL ARM/PARTS WITHOUT PAYING OUT OF POCKET. STATES NOT COVERED. HAVE HAD THE PROBLEM SINCE AND 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT IS NOT THE REMEDY. NOTICE BAD CUPPING TO INNER REAR TIRES AND HARSH VIBRATIONS AND NOISE. *TR
CUPPING OF REAR TIRES CAUSED BY REAR CONTROL ARM PREMATURE WEAR. PARTS NOT COVERED BY A RECALL, CAR OUT OF WARRANTY, COST TO REPLACE FAULTY CONTROL ARM, $453.00, COST TO REPLACE RUINED TIRES, $200.00. DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS PART IS NOT ON A RECALL AT THIS TIME, NO ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN, THE FAULTY PART IS STILL ON MY CAR. THE REPLACEMENT PART IS ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE OF HIGH DEMAND FOR REPLACEMENT ON OTHER CARS LIKE MINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR MATERIAL WAS SEVERLY CRACKING AND SEPARATING. THE SUN VISOR FAILED TO REMAIN IN A SECURED POSITION AND OBSTRUCTED THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY RECOMMENDED THAT THE SUN VISOR BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. I BOUGHT A 2006 HONDA CIVIC WITH 50K MILES ON IT ONE MONTH AGO. THE AIR CONDITIONING DID NOT BLOW COLD AIR FROM THE VERY FIRST TIME I TURNED IT ON. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP (IT HAS A BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY FOR A YEAR), THEY SAID A PEBBLE HIT THE CONDENSER AND IT WOULD COST $700 TO REPLACE AND IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED A ROAD HAZARD. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HAD TO PURCHASE A NEW AXLE, NEW BRAKES, AND FOUR NEW TIRES. SHE HAS ALL OF THE PAPERWORK FOR THE REPAIRS THAT WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE THUS FAR. ON JUNE 21, 2008, WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND BEGAN DECELERATING. SHE PULLED OVER UNTIL AAA ARRIVED. THE CONTACT WAS THEN INFORMED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SHE BELIEVES THAT THE SAFETY RECALL IS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE, BUT HONDA DISAGREES. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V399000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR) WAS REFERENCED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
A RUMBLING NOISE EMANATING FROM THE REAR THAT HAS PROGRESSIVELY INCREASED IN VOLUME FROM ~12K TO 38K MILES. RECENTLY NOTICED EXTREME WEAR ON THE INSIDE OF BOTH REAR TIRES AND A PRONOUNCED TOE OUT OF BOTH REAR WHEELS. I ALSO HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS FROM HYDROPLANING EMANATING FROM THE REAR. NUMEROUS ENTRIES ON THE NET INDICATED A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH 06 TO 08 CIVIC REAR CONTROL ARMS AND A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED 1/08 TO REPLACE THESE CONTROL ARMS. I WAS NOT CONTACTED OR INFORMED IN ANY WAY OF THIS BULLETIN EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY 06 HONDA CIVIC AT MY DEALER IN MAY 08. AFTER REALIZING THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM IE. PURE SAFETY ISSUE AND RUNNING INTO DENIALS AND RESISTANCE FROM BOTH PFLUEGAR AND TONY HONDA ON OAHU I CALLED HONDA CORP. IN CALIFORNIA AND THEY ARE GOING TO DEAL WITH TONY HONDA FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE ARMS. HONDA MUST ANNOUNCE A RECALL ON THIS SERIOUS DEFECT BEFORE THERE IS A RASH OF ACCIDENTS/DEATHS DUE TO THEIR UNCONSCIONABLE CONDUCT REGARDING REPLACING THIS SERIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PART. I BOUGHT A 2006 HONDA CIVIC AND WITHIN A YEAR MY DRIVER SIDE VISOR STOPPED WORKING. IT WOULDN'T STAY UP AND EVERY NOW AND THEN IT WOULD JUST DROP DOWN. THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY AND THE VISOR SNAPPED DOWN WHICH SCARED ME AND I COULDN'T SEE, WHICH IS HOW I ALMOST WRECK. IT FINALLY CAME OFF AND BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE A WARRANTY I COULD GET IT FIXED WITHOUT PAYING OVER $100 PER VISOR. MY PASSENGER VISOR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS WELL AND NOW I DRIVE WITHOUT VISOR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND I WISH HONDA WOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I WILL NEVER WANT TO PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA JUST BECAUSE OF THIS VISOR PROBLEM. SUN VISORS ON 2006 HONDA CIVIC BREAKS MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT THE VISOR IN THE UP POSITION....METAL BRACKET BREAKS THE PLASTIC AROUND IT WHEN THE VISOR IS WARMED BY SUN...WHEN YOU PUT THE VISOR BACK UP IT CAN FALL DOWN MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70000.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: THE PURPOSE OF THIS LETTER IS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE TREATMENT I RECEIVED FROM HONDA OF AMERICA. I WAS IN A MINOR ACCIDENT ON JUNE 11 2008. THE ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED BY THE TIE ROD BREAKING ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC AS I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AT 25 MILES PER HOUR. THE MECHANICAL FAILURE CAUSED MY CAR TO VEER INTO 2 PARKED CARS CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO EACH. THE ATTENDING OFFICER STATED THAT THE ACCIDENT WAS OBVIOUSLY THE RESULT OF A MECHANICAL FAILURE AND DID NOT ISSUE ANY TICKETS. THE BODY SHOP OWNER ALSO AGREED THAT A MECHANICAL FAILURE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. THIS PROMPTED ME TO INFORM HONDA OF AMERICA OF THE ACCIDENT CAUSED BY THE BROKEN TIE ROD. HONDA'S RESPONSE WAS YOU WILL BE CONTACTED IN 2 TO 3 WEEKS. IN THE MEAN TIME THE CAR WAS NOT FIXED AS EVERYTHING WAS ON HOLD WAITING FOR HONDA'S RESPONSE. IN FACT THE CAR WAS NOT FIXED UNTIL 7/24/08, 43 DAYS LATER. CONTACT WAS MADE BY CHRISTIAN K. SKJERVOLD OF M.A. JORDAN CO. INC. LOCATED IN MINNEAPOLIS MN. MR. SKJERVOLD VISIT WAS VERY UNPLEASANT. HIS ONLY OBJECTIVE WAS TO BADGER ME INTO ADMITTING THAT I HAD SOMEHOW BROKEN THE TIE ROD MYSELF. I AM 81 YEARS OLD AND DRIVE QUITE CONSERVATIVELY. HE SUGGESTED REPEATEDLY THAT PERHAPS I HAD BEEN DRIVING RECKLESSLY AND DAMAGED THE CAR BEFORE HAND. HE INFORMED ME THAT HE WOULD BE IN CONTACT IN 2 WEEKS. I HEARD NOTHING UNTIL I CONTACTED HIM IN LATE SEPTEMBER. A WEEK LATER I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM HONDA STATING THAT BASED ON THEIR INVESTIGATION THE TIE ROD HAD BROKEN AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT CONTRADICTING ALL OF THE AVAILABLE INFORMATION. THE LETTER GOES ON TO STATE THAT TIE ROD WAS NOT BROKEN BUT WAS BENT IN THE MIDDLE. THIS IS PURE FABRICATION AND I HAVE ALL OF THE BROKEN PARTS IN MY GARAGE TO PROVE IT. IF THIS IS THE WAY HONDA HANDLES THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM I WILL ASSUME YOU HAVE A FILE ON THEM ALREADY. PLEASE ADD THIS TO YOUR DATA BASE. I RECENTLY BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND THE STEEL TRIED IS SHOWING THROUGH. HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND, IF I BOUGHT NEW TIRES, THAT THEY WOULD GIVE ME A FREE ALIGNMENT. NOT COOL SEEING AS HONDA SHOULD GIVE ME NEW TIRES AND FIX THE PROBLEM. MY CAR NOW MAKES LOUD NOISES DUE TO THE TIRES AND, WITH ALL THE OTHER FIXES I AM HAVING TO GET, I AM RETHINKING HONDA'S COMMITMENT TO CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. A VERY LOUD ROAD NOISE HAS BEEN COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. MY CAR WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE WORN DOWN. I WAS TOLD BY THE HONDA DEALER THAT I NEED 4 NEW TIRES (33,394 MILES) BECAUSE THERE IS EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE REAR CONTROL ARMS, AS PER HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN. WE ARE AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF THE PARTS AND THE WORK WILL BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE ON JUNE 16TH. HOWEVER, THE TIRES ARE NOT COVERED AT ALL BY THE WARRANTY. 1. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, A RANDOM ROAD PEBBLE PUT A HOLE IN OUR CAR'S AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER UNIT. 2. THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT DOES NOT WORK; 3. THE DEALER SAYS THE DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL COST $800 TO REPLACE THE CONDENSER. MY 2006 CIVIC LX COUPE HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE WINDSHIELD VISORS. I PLACE A WINDSHIELD SHADE DAILY WHEN I PARK MY CAR AT WORK AND USE THE VISOR TO HOLD THE SHADE IN PLACE. I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE VISOR NOT BEING ABLE TO STAY UP BECAUSE THE PLASTIC PART THAT SURROUNDS THE ROD SPLITS OPEN AND THE VISOR WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. A CO-WORKER HAS A 2007 CIVIC AND HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER REPLACED HIS VISORS AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS A BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE. MY CIVIC HAS 39000 MILES AND SO I'VE PASSED THE 36000 MILE WARRANTY LIMIT. THE DEALER SAID THAT MY WARRANTY PERIOD IS OVER SINCE I WAS OVER 36000 MILES. I HAVE READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VISOR PROBLEM AND I FEEL THAT THIS CAN CAUSE A VISIBILITY PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE WARRANTY IS OVER, BUT THE VISOR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MILEAGE. *TR

AT FIRST THE VISOR BEGAN TO SEPARATE, AND IN THE BEGINNING I WAS ABLE TO SQUEEZE THE VISOR BACK TOGETHER AND THEN THE VISOR JUST HUNG IN MY LINE OF VISION WHILE DRIVING. THE SUN VISORS ON MY DAUGHTERS 2006 HONDA CIVIC HAVE COMPLETELY FELL APART. I HAVE BEEN READING ON LINE THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE. THANKFULLY MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT MOVING HER VEHICLE AT THE TIME THEY FELL OR SHE COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. WITH THE INCREASING FREQUENCY OF THIS- I THINK HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS AND REPAIR THEM FOR FREE. BUT, I HAVE BEEN TOLD "THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR WILL BE OVER $100. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT SWERVED TO AVOID TWO DEER AND CRASHED INTO A MAILBOX. SHE ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD SHATTERED AS DESIGNED INTO TINY PIECES. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SPLINTERED INTO SHARDS, RESULTING IN SEVERE EYE DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER. HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL AND SEVERAL PIECES OF GLASS WERE REMOVED FROM HIS EYES. A FEW DAYS LATER, HE WAS TAKEN TO AN EYE DOCTOR TO HAVE SEVERAL MORE PIECES OF GLASS REMOVED FROM HIS EYES. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO REPORT THE FAILURE AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST, AND PROVIDED HER WITH THE NUMBER TO THE NHTSA HOTLINE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 34,000.
MY WIFE TOOK MY HONDA CIVIC 2006 SEDAN TO GOODYEAR TIRE FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATE. THEY DISCOVERED UNUSUAL UNEVEN WARE ON THE REAR TIRES. GOODYEAR WOULD NOT DO THE ROTATION AND NOTED LEFT REAR SHOCK BLOWN AND TIRES ARE CUPPED, NEEDS 4 TIRES AND ALIGNED SOON. THEY ADVISED TAKING IT BACK TO HONDA DEALER AND HAVE CHECKED. HONDA SERVICE AGREED WITH GOODYEAR THAT BOTH STRUTS ARE BLOWN AND NEEDS THE REAR CONTROL ARM KIT. THEY WANTED TO SPLIT THE COST OF THE STRUTS AND CONTROL ARM REPAIRS TOTALING $594.21 LEAVING ME TO FOOT $297.11. I WOULD PAY FOR NEW TIRES. THIS 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WEARS OUT THE REAR TIRES WITHIN ONE TIRE ROTATION. THE INNER EDGES OF BOTH REAR TIRES WEAR AWAY CAUSING INSTABILITY OF VEHICLE ESPECIALLY ON WET SURFACES. HONDA IS REPLACING THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS UNDER WARRANTY AS PER A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN BUT ARE NOT COVERING TIRES WORN OUT AFTER 21,000 MILES. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD 2 FOUR WHEEL ALIGNMENTS AND 2 TIRES REPLACED BY HONDA PRIOR TO GETTING CONTROL ARMS. I AM NOW TRYING TO GET THEM TO PAY FOR THE 2ND SET OF TIRES IT HAS WORN OUT. I RECENTLY HAD AN INCIDENT ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE IN WHICH THE TRUNK LID DOOR JAMMED AND WOULD NOT OPEN. THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF OPENING THE TRUNK, ONE BEING ON THE REMOTE AND THE OTHER BEING THE LEVER IN THE DRIVER COMPARTMENT. (THE TRUNKS ON THESE CARS DO NOT HAVE A KEYED ENTRY.) UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT THE TRUNK HAS NO ACCESS FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRUNK IF THE LID DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. THESE CARS HAVE A 60/40 FOLD DOWN REAR SEAT THAT IS ONLY ABLE TO OPEN FROM INSIDE THE TRUNK. AFTER SPEAKING WITH HONDA, THEY CONFIRM THAT THIS IS IN FACT THE DESIGN IF THE CAR. MY FEAR IS THAT A SMALL CHILD WILL ACCIDENTALLY GET LOCKED IN THE TRUCK OF THE CAR AND THE DOOR JAMS. THIS COULD HAVE DEADLY RESULTS BECAUSE THERE IS NO QUICK WAY TO GAIN ACCESS. *TR
I HEARD A LOUD HUMMING NOISE COMING FROM THE TIRES ON THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE REAR HUB AND THE NOISE STOPPED FOR ABOUT 8-10 THOUSAND MILES. I LATER FOUND THAT THEY HAD ISSUED A RECALL. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AND THIS TIME THEY HAD TO REPLACED THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS. HONDA ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS PROBLEM AND I AM READING MANY COMPLAINTS ON EDMUND'S INTERNET SIGHT COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE ON THE 2006-2007 CIVICS. THE PROBLEM WITH THE SUSPENSION RUINED THE TIRES ON THE CAR AND CAUSED AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THE DEALER DID CHANGE THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS BUT THE CAR CONTINUES TO MAKE NOISE IN THE REAR. THE DEALER TELLS ME ITS THE TIRES AND THE CUPPING IN THE TIRES IS THE FAULT OF THE TIRE, NOT THE CAR WHICH IT NOT TRUE. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE THE TIRES BUT ADMITTED THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS ON THEIR CARS. ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED WHEN A TIRE BLOWS OUT TO NOTIFY PEOPLE OF THE PROBLEM? *TR

THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE CONTACT HAS TO DUCK DOWN TO SEE THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN 30,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC COUPE. AT 12,000 MILES BOTH SUN VISORS SPLIT APART WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. I CONTACTED THE HONDA DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY SCHEDULED ME FOR REPLACEMENTS AT NO CHARGE. BY 16,000 MILES, BOTH SUN VISORS BROKE AGAIN AND THE HONDA DEALERSHIP REPLACED THEM! LUCKILY, WINTER CAME AND THEY LASTED UNTIL THE NEXT SUMMER. AT ROUND 29,000 MILES THEY BROKE AGAIN AND WERE REPLACED ONCE AGAIN, UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WILL NOT REPLACE THEM WITHOUT CHARGING ME BETWEEN $200 AND $320, DEPENDING ON WHICH DEALERSHIP I CALLED. TALK ABOUT A RIP OFF AND A PIECE OF CRAP! I THOUGHT HONDA MADE QUALITY??? THE AIR CONDITIONER IN MY RECENTLY PURCHASED 2006 HONDA CIVIC WAS NOT COOLING PROPERLY. UPON TAKING IT IN, IT WAS DISCOVERED THE CONDENSER HAD A HOLE WHICH, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY A ROCK/ROAD DEBRIS. STEERING LOCKS UP FROM TIME TO TIME. IT HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES. APPROX. 12 MONTHS AGO & THEN AGAIN 4-27-2008. COMES AND GOES. CONCERNED IT WILL CAUSE A CRASH. I CHECK ON HONDA WEBSIGHT AND NO RECALLS. *TR PHONE INTERVIEW UPDATE (SEPT. 8, 2008): MR. BITKER SAID THAT HE DID NOT NOTICE ANYTHING UNUSUAL PRIOR TO THE STEERING LOCKING UP. THE STEERING LOCKUP LASTED ABOUT 2 TO 3 SECONDS EACH TIME DURING WHICH HE COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. ONCE IT OCCURRED AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I HAVE A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR TIRES ON IT 4 TIMES SINCE APRIL OF 2007. I CONTACTED HONDA TODAY, DECEMBER 2, 2008 AFTER FINDING A BULLETIN THAT THEY POSTED ABOUT THE PROBLEM, BUT BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY THEY REFUSE TO REIMBURSE ME OR PAY TO GET THIS FIXED. IT STATES IN THE BULLETIN THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM IS TOO SHORT AND THAT IT CAUSES UNEVEN AND RAPID REAR TIRE WEAR, AS WELL AS VIBRATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS A HAZARD FOR ME DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS IT IS, BUT I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO KEEP REPLACING TIRES, NOR DO I HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED ON MY OWN. PROBLEM: INTERMITTENT LOSS OF FULL BRAKING ABILITY. DETAILED DESCRIPTION: WHEN LEAVING WORK, MY DRIVING ROUTINE IS VERY SIMILAR DAY-TO-DAY. OF THE ESTIMATED 370 TIMES I HAVE LEFT WORK WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE HAD BRAKE FAILURE ON 5 TO 10 OCCASIONS. THE SCENARIO IS THIS: 1.START ENGINE, BACK OUT OF PARKING SPOT, AND APPLY BRAKES IN ORDER TO SHIFT FROM R TO D. 2.DRIVE 100 FEET THROUGH PARKING LOT AND APPLY BRAKES A SECOND TIME WHILE WAITING TO ENTER THE MAIN ROAD. 3.DRIVE ONE-QUARTER MILE AND APPLY BRAKES A THIRD TIME AT THE FIRST TRAFFIC LIGHT. IT IS THIS THIRD APPLICATION OF BRAKES THAT SOMETIME RESULTS IN BRAKE FAILURE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL GO ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, AND BRAKING CAPABILITY IS ABOUT 30% OF WHAT IT SHOULD BE. IF I PUMP THE BRAKES, THE FAILURE WILL DISAPPEAR AND NORMAL BRAKING RETURNS. THIS RESULTED IN A REAR END ACCIDENT, WHEN I COULD NOT STOP AND HIT THE STOPPED VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. VEHICLE HAD 36,801 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AT THE TIME OF ACCIDENT, AND NO BRAKE REPAIRS HAD EVER BEEN ATTEMPTED ON THE VEHICLE. *TR

HONDA, AND ITS DEALERS, HAD CONSISTENTLY MAINTAINED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUE WITH THE 2006 CIVIC REAR SUSPENSION, EVEN THOUGH I'D SPENT ALMOST 100 HOURS OF MY TIME, INCLUDING MULTIPLE TRIPS TO THE DEALER. THEY BLAMED EVERYONE INVOLVED EXCEPT THEMSELVES - MY AGGRESSIVE DRIVING, THE OEM BRIDGESTONE TIRES, LACK OF ROTATION, THE PHASE OF THE MOON, YOU. ONLY WHEN THREATENED WITH MY LAWSUIT DID THEY ADMIT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, AND TELL ME THAT I COULD HAVE MY REAR END MODIFIED BY MY DEALER AT HONDA'S EXPENSE TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM. HAVING SAID THIS - THEY HAVE ANNOUNCED NO GENERAL RECALL OR NOTIFICATION ACTIONS, NOR HAS THE NHTSA - TO WHOM I'D COMPLAINED A YEAR AGO. MY PREVIOUS 2006 HONDA CIVIC LX 2 DOOR COUPE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT AND REAR END CRASH AND NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP IN TRAFFIC AND WAS REAR ENDED . THE CAR IN FRONT AND THE CAR BEHIND ME BOTH HAD THEIR AIRBAGS DEPLOY. THE CONTROL ARMS THAT ARE ON THE CAR NOW CAUSE THE REAR TIRES TO WEAR UNEVENLY OR RAPIDLY. THE SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER IS SB08-100. THIS COULD CAUSE A BLOW OUT TO HAPPEN ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH AT THOSE SPEEDS COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. THINK IT IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. *TR

MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC SI HAS AN ISSUE WITH "HANGING REVS" THAT EVEN AFTER THE RELEASE OF THE GAS PEDAL THE RPMS SEEMS TO STAY STEADY FOR 1-2 SECONDS. THE INABILITY OF THE DBW SYSTEM WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO EARLY CLUTCH FAILURE, ALSO THERE IS SURGING AND JERKING IN 1ST-2ND GEAR. I MUST SAY THAT IT MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE I CAN'T PREDICT WHAT THE CAR WILL DO. THE CAR ALSO SEEMS TO HAVE A NOTCHY, STIFF, AND GRINDING 3RD GEAR THAT WON'T SEEM TO GO AWAY EVEN WITH RECOMMENDED FLUID. *TR
THE DRIVE-BY-WIRE THROTTLE SYSTEM EQUIPPED ON THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN VERY TARDY IN ITS RESPONSE TIME TO THROTTLE-PEDAL INPUT. THIS WAS ALREADY A "RECALL" FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND HAS SINCE GOTTEN WORSE AFTER THE NEW SOFTWARE WAS INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. FOR INSTANCE, IF DOWNSHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR, QUITE OFTEN WILL THE ENGINE ACCELERATE ITSELF AND PUSH THE VEHICLE FOR EXTENDED AMOUNTS OF TIME (10-15 SECONDS) WITH NO PEDAL INPUT. THIS HAS OCCURRED NOT ONLY IN FIRST GEAR, BUT ALSO FOURTH GEAR AND SIXTH GEAR, NOT WHILE DOWNSHIFTING BUT DURING NORMAL HIGHWAY DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF INCIDENCES OF THIS IS APPROXIMATELY 10. LUCKILY I DO HAVE A CLUTCH AND WHEN DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH, THE ENGINE WILL RAISE ITS REVS FROM ~2000 TO OVER 3000 AND THEN DROP OFF TO IDLE.
