AFTER ABOUT 16 MONTHS OF OWNING THE CAR, BEGINNING IN OCTOBER 2007, THE IMA (INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST) ELECTRIC ASSIST MOTOR IN MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID HAS BEEN ACTING ERRATICALLY. AN WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DUE TO IMA PROBLEMS, AND SOME COMPONENTS OF THE IMA COMPUTER AND CONTROL SYSTEM WERE REPLACED (I AM NOT SURE IF ANY OF THE OLD PARTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE). SINCE THAT TIME, THE IMA BATTERY THAT POWERS THE ASSIST MOTOR HAS BEEN UNPREDICTABLE. IT SOMETIMES WOULD FULLY DISCHARGE, AND THE CAR WOULD RUN ONLY ON THE UNDERPOWERED 1.3 L GAS ENGINE. THE CAR IS VERY SLUGGISH, CAUSING SAFETY ISSUES WHEN ACCELERATION IS NEEDED IN CITY OR INTERSTATE DRIVING. THE PROBLEM IS WORSE IN WARMER WEATHER, 85 DEGREES OR HIGHER. SINCE THE PROBLEM FIRST WAS OBSERVED IN EARLY OCTOBER 2007, SOME PARTS AND COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP. ON OCTOBER 29, 2007 THEY REPLACED THE MCM RELAY AND THE BATTERY CONTROL UNIT. AROUND JULY 9, 2008 THE ORIGINAL IMA BATTERY WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW EXPERIMENTAL IMA BATTERY. ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2008 THE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS REPLACED AT THE SUGGESTION OF ANOTHER CIVIC HYBRID OWNER WHO THOUGHT THAT REPLACING THE SENSOR ON HIS CIVIC HAD HELPED SOME OF THE ERRATIC BEHAVIOR. HOWEVER THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP ADMITTED TO ME THAT AMERICAN HONDA CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEMS THAT MY CAR HAS. HE TELLS ME THAT THE PROBLEMS ARE DUE TO A CHANGE IN PROGRAMMING OF THE SOFTWARE THAT CONTROLS THE IMA, A PROBLEM THAT STARTED WITH THE SOFTWARE UPDATES INSTALLED ON MY CAR IN OCTOBER, 2007. HE SAYS THAT HONDA IS WORKING ON A NEW SOFTWARE UPDATE TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS, BUT NO ONE HAS AN IDEA OF WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. THE ONLY SUGGESTION THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME WAS "WHEN YOU RUN THE AIR CONDITIONING, DIRECT THE VENTS UPWARDS TOWARD THE CEILING TO SEND THE COLD AIR BACK TOWARD THE IMA BATTERY". I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT THE PROBLEM WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WHEN ACCELERATION IS NEEDED AND THE IMA WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY. *TR
I HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS OF COMPLETE BATTERY FAILURE ON MY HONDA CIVC HYBRID 2007. WITH THE LAST INCIDENT, ON OCT. 26, 2007. I FELT VERY SHAKEN BECAUSE I WAS PULLING ONTO A HIGHWAY AND AN 18 WHEELER WAS COMING - THE BATTERY FAILED AND I ONLY HAD THE POWER OF A SMALL GAS ENGINE. I WAS FORCED TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO AVOID A COLLISION. I HAVE HAD MY CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND CURRENTLY IT REMAINS AT THE DEALERSHIP SINCE NOV. 1. I AM BEING TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW THE CAUSE AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO GET THE CAR TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM. ALL THREE TIMES THAT MY BATTERY FAILED, I WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY. THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS PROBABLY HIGH 80S TO MID 90S. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP HAS RE-WORKED THE ELECTRONICS TWICE WITHOUT SUCCESS. *TR
ON MY 06 CIVIC SI'S 6SPEED. THE THIRD AND FOURTH GEAR DO NOT ENGAGE, WHEN THEN DO THEY POPPED OUT AND ARE REJECTED. THIS HAPPENS MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN IT IS COLD HOWEVER IT ALSO DOSE IT WHEN WARM, RANDOMLY. THE GEARTRAIN SEEMS TO BE VERY NOTCHY OVERALL AND GETTING WORSE. I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM FIXED BY THE DEALER ONCE BUT THE PROBLEM QUICKLY CAME BACK. THE DEALER REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM AGAIN, CLAIMING THAT IT WAS NOT REPRODUCIBLE. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND MUST BE FIXED. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE IN VARYING CLIMATES WITH THIS PROBLEM. I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM HONDA STATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SEALS THAT MAY CAUSE LEAKAGE AND WHEEL BEARING FAILURE. INSTRUCTED TO TAKE TO DEALER. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO BE TOLD THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON MY CAR. 06 HONDA CIVIC. WHY DID I RECIEVE A LETTER IF THERE WAS NO RECALL????????? *TR
EXCESSIVE WEAR TO REAR TIRES ON A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. TIRES LASTED 26,000 BEFORE HAVING TO BE REPLACED. TIRES ROTATED AT 3,000 MILE INTERVALS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE BRAKES MADE A SQUEALING NOISE. THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED AFTER APPROXIMATELY SIX FEET. THE DEALER CHECKED THE VEHICLE TWICE, BUT FOUND NO FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,000. UPDATED 7/3/08 *CN UPDATED 07/15/08. *JB
RECENTLY THOUGHT MY CAR SOUNDED LOUDER THAN USUAL UPON ACCELERATION AT 40 MPH AND ABOVE BUT DIDN'T' SEEM TO BE FROM ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION AND I WASN'T TOO SURE IF IT ALWAYS SOUNDED LIKE THAT. SEVERAL DAYS LATER I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR ABS REAR WHEEL SENSOR O-RING INSPECTION, WHICH SAID IT COULD AFFECT MY REAR WHEEL BEARINGS IF THE 0-RING WAS DEFECTIVE. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A DEALER TO HAVE THIS INSPECTED AND THEY ALSO NOTICED THE NOISE AT 40 MPH & ABOVE. THEY DID TELL ME I NEEDED TO HAVE MY DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL BEARING REPLACED, BUT THE CLERK SAID THIS WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL I JUST HAD CHECKED. SO I ASSUME THAT SINCE MY FRONT (NOT BACK) WHEEL BEARING IS DEFECTIVE, THIS IS A SEPARATE ISSUE & HASN'T YET BEEN RECALLED. I SET UP AN APPT. TO HAVE IT REPAIRED ON 10/16/07. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTI-LOCK: WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HIS LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING PROPERLY. FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. THE DEALER IDENTIFIED THE FAILURE AS RELATING TO THE RECALL AND CHARGED THE CONTACT $150 FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED, BUT THE DEALER REFUSES. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000. UPDATED 4/23/08 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED IN OCTOBER HE INFORMED JOHNSON CITY HONDA ABOUT THE WHEEL BEARINGS MAKING NOISE BUT THE COMPLAINT WAS NEVER CONFIRMED AND 5 MONTHS LATER HE DISCOVERED THE REAR WHEEL WAS ABOUT TO FALL OF THE VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE ABS ON THE DAY OF THE CRASH, HOWEVER, THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000.
WHEN GOING UP A HILL WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET, THE RPMS WILL INCREASE IN ORDER TO CLIMB THE HILL WHILST MAINTAINING THE SAME SPEED. ONCE THE PEAK OF THE HILL IS REACHED, THOUGH, THE RPMS WILL NOT RETURN TO THE NORMAL RANGE (BETWEEN 2000 AND 3000). THIS WILL CONTINUE INDEFINITELY UNLESS I SLOW DOWN BELOW 40 MPH, OR SHIFT FROM D TO S AND THEN BACK TO D. WHILE I HAVE INCLUDED OCT 5TH, 2007 AS THE INCIDENT DATE, THAT IS APPROXIMATELY WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE ISSUE. NO DOUBT IT HAS BEEN OCCURRING THROUGHOUT THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR, BUT THIS IS WHEN I FIRST BECAME AWARE OF THE PROBLEM ON A LONG ROAD TRIP. THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. THIS IS WASTING A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF GAS, AS WELL AS PUTTING UNNEEDED WEAR AND TEAR ON THE ENGINE AND DRIVETRAIN. HONDA MAINTAINS THAT THIS IS NOT TRIGGERING ANY ERROR CODES WITH THE SYSTEM MANAGEMENT IN THE CAR. HOWEVER, THIS BEHAVIOR IS SURELY NOT INTENDED, AND OTHERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME BEHAVIOR ON ONLINE MESSAGE BOARDS. *TR
I OWN A 2006 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN LX. I HAVE REPLACED THE REAR TIRES 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 50,000 MILES. THE REAR TIRES CUP SEVERELY AND CREATE EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE. I WAS TOLD THIS IS DUE TO A FACTORY DEFECT IN A REAR ARM BEING TOO SHORT. *TR
IN AUGUST OF 2006, I PURCHASED A 2006 HONDA CIVIC FROM BOB HOWARD AUTOMALL IN OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA. LITTLE DID I KNOW THAT THIS CAR WAS FLAWED FROM THE BEGINNING AND HONDA AMERICA KNEW IT AND DID NOTHING TO LET ANY CONSUMERS KNOW ABOUT THIS DEFECT. THE FLAW IN THE CAR IS THAT THE REAR AXLE IS FLAWED AND IS CAUSING TIRES TO WEAR ABNORMALLY, THUS CAUSING FLATS AND BLOWOUTS THAT CONSUMERS ARE UNAWARE OFF. CURRENTLY THERE IS NO FIX AND HONDA IS UNWILLING TO WARRANT ANY OF THE ADDITIONAL DAMAGE THAT THEIR MISTAKE HAS CAUSED. THIS CAR THAT WE OWN HAS HAD TWO BLOWOUTS ON THE REAR TIRES AND ADDITIONAL DAMAGE THAT WAS CAUSED WHEN WE HAD TO JUMP CURBS TO GET OUT OF THE CITY TRAFFIC FLOW. NOW HONDA AMERICA WANTS TO KEEP THIS FLAW QUIET AND LET CONSUMERS FOOT THE BILL FOR TIRES AND ANY DAMAGE THAT THIS FLAW FROM THE MANUFACTURE HAS CAUSED. HONDA STILL HAS NO FIX AND EXPECTS CONSUMERS TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS. CHEERS AND CONCERNED CITIZEN*CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE TIRES WERE SMOKING, AND AS A RESULT, WERE GRINDED DOWN TO THE METAL BELTS. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS NEVER ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,500 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
NEED 4TH SET OF TIRES AT 116,00 MILES.JUST RECENTLY, HONDA DEALER ADVISED THAT REAR CONTROL ARM MUST BE REPLACED. FOUND HONDA TSB08-001 THAT INDICATED THE REAR CONTROL ARM IS DEFECTIVE. HAD SERVICE COMPLETED WHICH COST $500 AND HONDA OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. *TR
WHEN I TOOK MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC LX IN FOR A/C REPAIR TO THE HONDA DEALER, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS APPARENTLY HIT BY A ROCK THAT PUT A HOLE IN THE CONDENSER, CAUSING THE FREON TO LEAK OUT. THIS ISN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AND WILL COST ME OVER $500. THEY TOLD ME TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I HAVE SEEN ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODELS OF HONDAS. HONDA SHOULD COME FORWARD AND DO A RECALL DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING OF THE A/C COMPRESSOR. IF THIS VERY SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO THAT MANY HONDA CUSTOMERS, THE PART IS DEFECTIVE. *TR
I BOUGHT MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE BRAND NEW IN NOVEMBER 2005, PROBLEMS STARTED TO OCCUR SHORTLY AFTERWARDS FOR INSTANCE THE AIRBAG LIGHT HAD A MALFUNCTION AND RECALLED THE DEALER DIDN'T FIX IT THE FIRST TIME, VERY INCONVENIENT, BRAKE PEDAL WAS FIXED BEFORE I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THAT AS WELL BECAUSE COULD FALL OFF AND CAUSE A CRASH. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO HONDA SERVICE TO GET PROBLEMS FIXED AND NUMEROUS TIMES, BEEN TOLD THAT ITS NORMAL OR SOME OTHER ?!@#$% THEY ALWAYS GAVE ME THE RUN AROUND,THE SERVICE PEOPLE ARE RUDE, MEAN AND INCOMPETENT AND IGNORANT. I HAVE TAKEN MY 06 CIVIC IN A TOTAL OF 8-10 TIMES NOW TO FIX PROBLEMS THEY NEVER FIX ANYTHING! INTERIOR TRIM IS POOR/POOR ALTERING FROM THE FACTORY, PANELS LOOSE AND POPPING OUT INTERIOR SCRATCHES TOO EASILY/FRAGILE CHEAPLY MADE ?!@#$% (STILL), FRONT DRIVERS SEAT WONT RETRACT ALL THE WAY BACK ANYMORE LIKE IT USED TO (NEW) WEATHER STRIPPING IS LIFTING UP BY FRONT WINDSHIELD (STILL) VARIOUS RATTLES FROM INTERIOR (STILL), UNDERCOATING/UNDER BODY SPRAY FROM FACTORY IS PEELING COMPLETELY OFF (NEW) DOOR PANEL FLEXES AND RPMS RISE WHEN USING WINDOWS/NOW SEEMS TO ROLL UP/DOWN SLOWER THAN BEFORE (STILL/NEW) KEEP IN MIND IM ONLY AT 11,000 MILES TOO! HONDA AND TOYOTAS QUALITY IS GOING DOWNHILL VERY FAST ESPECIALLY WITH THE CIVIC, CRV, RDX, MDX, CAMRY, TUNDRA, HIGHLANDER, LANDCRUISER, YARIS, AND RAV4. THE LAST YEAR BEFORE THE REDESIGN OF THESE VEHICLES THE QUALITY WAS GREAT, NOW IT SEEMS LIKE HONDA AND TOYOTA ARE EITHER TEAMING UP TOGETHER OR COMPETING TO SEE WHO CAN MAKE THE CHEAPEST AND ?!@#$% VEHICLE WITH CHEAPLY MADE MATERIALS AND TAKING SHORTCUTS, CHANGED A SUPPLIERS OR SOMETHING, THESE PROBLEMS ARE UNACCEPTABLE FOR A NEW VEHICLE. *TR
DURING THE YEARS OF 2008 THROUGH 2011, I BROUGHT VEHICLE TO SHEEHY HONDA OF ALEXANDRIA FOR REGULAR SERVICE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS I COMPLAINED OF EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE. TECHNICIANS MADE NOTATIONS OF TIRES "CUPPING, NOISE" AND ACKNOWLEDGED UNEVEN AND PREMATURE WEAR AND RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF REAR CONTROL ARM. I DECLINED THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE ON THE GROUNDS THAT I FELT LIKE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A DEFECTIVE PART ISSUE FOR WHICH I SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO PAY. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH I FOUND THAT HONDA HAD ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM WITH CONTROL ARMS ON 2006 CIVICS IN SERVICE BULLETIN 08-001. IN 2011, I BROUGHT THIS TO HONDA'S ATTENTION THROUGH SHEEHY HONDA OF ALEXANDRIA, VA AND THROUGH CALLS TO AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. HONDA REFUSED TO REPLACE CONTROL ARM. IN JULY OF 2013, I RECEIVED A NOTICE, THROUGH HONDA, FROM THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA INSTRUCTING ME TO TAKE MY 2006 CIVIC IN TO HAVE THE CONTROL ARM INSPECTED/REPLACED. IN AUGUST OF 2013, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SHEEHY HONDA OF ALEXANDRIA FOR THE RECOMMENDED SERVICE. THEY DID NOT LOOK AT THE CONTROL ARM. THEY INSTEAD MADE A NOTATION THAT THE "REAR TIRE WEAR IS OKAY AT THIS TIME" AND REFUSED TO REPLACE THE CONTROL ARM. WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THEIR ATTENTION THAT THERE IS A RECORD OF THIS ISSUE WITH THEM ON MY CAR GOING BACK TO 2011, I WAS INFORMED THAT ALL RECORDS ARE PURGED AFTER TWO YEARS AND THEY HAD NO RECORD OF INTERACTIONS WITH ME ON THIS ISSUE. *TR
I OWN A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING I NOTICED THE A/C WAS NOT THROWING COOL AIR. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN BRANDON FL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONDENSER TO THE A/C WAS DAMAGED DUE TO A ROAD HAZARD, SOMETHING STRIKING IT THROUGH THE GRILL. MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR BILL THAT I PAID WAS OVER $400.00. MY CONCERN WAS ADDRESSED TO A DISTRICT MANAGER, HE STATED THAT DUE TO A ROAD HAZARD HONDA WOULD NOT PAY. I BELIEVE THAT A POOR DESIGN FEATURE BY THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD NOT COST ME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON ROUTE 88 HEADING WEST. I SHIFTED LANES GRADUALLY FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE RIGHT LANE WHEN I HIT A PUDDLE. I WAS EASING OFF THE ACCELERATOR, BUT I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. MY HONDA CIVIC HYBRID 2006 STARTED TO HYDROPLANE. IT SPUN AROUND 320 DEGREES AND WENT OVER AN EMBANKMENT. THE CAR SUFFERED OVER $14,000 DAMAGE AND MY WIFE SUFFERED A SEVERE BACK INJURY THAT CONTINUES TO IMPACT HER ABILITY TO FUNCTION TODAY. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO THE STATE POLICE. A WITNESS THAT WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME CONFIRMED THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS NEVER LIT UP. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IS MORE LIKELY TO HYDROPLANE THAN OTHER CARS. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO INVESTIGATE THE POSSIBILITY THAT THERE IS A DEFECT THAT CREATES THIS SIGNIFICANT RISK. I SHOULD ALSO NOTE THAT I HAVE OBSERVED UNUSUALLY RAPID WEARING OF THE TIRES ON THE HYBRID. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE, BUT DID NOT OFFER A REMEDY. THE FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED AT 13,000 MILES AND THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. *TR
I WAS INFORMED BY LANCASTER HONDA AT APPROXIMATELY 12, 400 MILES THAT I NEEDED MY BRAKES REPLACED. THE BRAKES WAS REPLACED BY LANCASTER HONDA AS A COURTESY. AT 18, 573 MILE LANCASTER HONDA STATED THAT MY BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THEY REPORTED THAT I HAD 1,5 MM LEFT ON MY BRAKES. I TOOK THE CAR TO ROBERTSON'S HONDA AND THEY STATED THERE WAS 3.5 MM LEFT. IN ALL INDICATION I WILL BRAKES TWICE IN 24,000 MILES. THE OWNER OF A 2006 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN EX STATED HE HAS 32, 000 MILES ON HIS BRAKES. THE OWNER OF A 2006 -2007 HONDA CIVIC COUPE EX STATED HE HAS REPLACED HIS BRAKES TWICE WITHIN A YEAR. ON SEPT 7, 2007. I COMPLAIN TO HONDA DEALERSHIP IN CARSON, ABOUT A ROARING SOUND ON MY REAL WHEELS. ASIDE FROM THAT THERE WAS UNEVEN WEAR ON BOTH INNER SIDE OF THE TIRES. THE SOUND WAS LIKE A BEARING FAILURE. THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEED AN ALIGNMENT. SO I PAID FOR IT. PLUS I HAVE TO BUY NEW TIRES. THEN TODAY 9-2-08. IT HAPPENED AGAIN WITH THE SAME ISSUES. I WAS TOLD THEY WOUND NOT COVER SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MY CAR 55,000 HOWEVER ON FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR 2008. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THIS ISSUE. WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS ON 2006 AND 07 HONDA CIVIC LX AND EX NOT SI. SO TRIED TO ARGUE ABOUT THE SERVICE BULLETIN BOTH HONDA DEALERSHIP AND HONDA MOTORS NORTH AMERICA. THEY ARE GIVING ME A RUN AROUND AND WONT PAY ME FOR MY TIRES AND ALIGNMENT COST. BUT THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM WHICH IS REPLACING FLANGE AND UPPER CONTROL ARM AS STATED IN SERVICE BULLETIN. I REQUEST YOUR KIND OFFICE AND RECOMMEND A RECALL ON THIS ISSUES OF ALIGNMENT BECAUSE THEY SAID ITS JUST A SERVICE BULLETIN AND NOT A RECALL. SO ITS NOT MANDATORY. SO THEY WONT PAY FOR MY THIRD TIRE AND ALIGNMENT . AND THE CAN GET OFF THE HOOK. 09/04/2007 DRIVING EAST ON I-10, SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING, ENGINE WOULD REV UP BUT CAR WOULD NOT GO. COASTED OVER TO SHOULDER (WAS ALMOST STRUCK IN REAR BY LARGE TRUCK SOUNDING HIS HORN AND LOCKING HIS BRAKES; I COULD NOT ACCELERATE OUT OF HIS WAY). CAR WOULD SHIFT BUT WOULD NOT GO. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER. INVOICE STATED, "FOUND CLUTCH DISC CAME APART." CAR HAD ONLY 26,232 MILES ON IT. REPLACED CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE AND THROW OUT BEARING. COST $1098.68. *TR
I HAVE A RUMBLE IN THE SUSPENSION OF MY CAR WITH NEW TIRES. THE TIRES I HAVE ONLY HAVE ABOUT 15,000 MILES ON THEM AND HONDA IS SAYING THAT IT'S BECAUSE I PUT CHEAP TIRES ON MY CAR. I HAVE BEEN TO BARRY'S HONDA SO MANY TIMES TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. EVEN WHEN I HAD THE ORIGINAL TIRES ON THE CAR AND THEY DIDN'T WANT TO FIX IT OR THEY DIDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. I BROUGHT IT TO THEM AT LEAST THREE OR FOUR TIMES. ONE TIME THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A BROKEN BELT IN MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE SO THAT'S WHEN I REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES. THE ORIGINAL TIRES ONLY HAD 40,000 MILES ON THEM WHEN I REPLACED THEM. WHEN I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED THE STORE THAT PUT THE TIRES ON SAID THAT THERE WASN'T A BROKEN BELT. I WAS DRIVING MY HONDA CIVIC 2006 IN THE LEFT LANE ON INTERSTATE 15 GOING NORTH FROM BARSTOW, CA AND 3 MILES NORTH OF AFTON ROAD I HEARD A EXPLOSION COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR END AND THE VEHICLE STARTED SLIDING FROM THE BACK TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TRIED TO MANEUVER THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND THE CAR STABILIZED AROUND ONE SECOND AND STARTED SLIDING AGAIN UNTIL I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE ROLLING FIVE TIMES TO THE RIGHT AND LANDING ON THE DESERT UP SIDE DOWN. THE TIRES INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY WAS MICHELIN PILOT 215/45 ZR17. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. *JB
ON 8/24/07 MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX WITH ONLY 12,107 MILES ON IT BEGAN MAKING A SQUEALING NOISE. TWO MINUTES LATER THERE WAS A NOISE, POWER STEERING WAS LOST AND CAR STALLED. DEALER SAID THE WATER PUMP AND PULLEY BROKE, AND THEY WERE BOTH REPLACED. PARTS WERE BACK ORDERED, HOWEVER, AND I WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR OVER A WEEK. THE DEALER SAID THEY HADN'T SEEN MUCH OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE FACT THAT THE PARTS WERE BACK ORDERED INDICATED TO THEM THAT THIS TYPE OF REPAIR WAS A PROBLEM. *TR
2006 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISORS BROKEN (AGAIN). THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC SUN VISORS HAVE BROKEN. THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WITHIN THE FIRST THREE YEARS OF OWNING THE CAR. THE THIRD TIME THE CAR WAS 500 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY BUT THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE IT THAT ONE LAST TIME. NOW IT IS BROKEN AGAIN! IF YOU GOOGLE "HONDA CIVIC SUN VISOR" YOU WILL FIND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE SUN VISOR SPLITS IN HALF AND CAN NO LONGER BE PUT UP (STORED POSITION). WHEN THE PLASTIC FRAME OF THE VISOR SPLITS, THE VISOR HANGS STRAIGHT DOWN BLOCKING YOUR VISION WHEN DRIVING. BECAUSE OF THIS, MY VISION IS CONSTANTLY BLOCKED AND I FIND MYSELF BENDING DOWN WHILE DRIVING TO SEE IF TRAFFIC LIGHTS ARE GREEN OR RED. IT CAN ALSO BLOCK MY VIEW OF A PEDESTRIAN STEPPING OFF OF THE CURB INTO THE CROSSWALK. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND HONDA DOESN'T WANT TO REPLACE THESE AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE A TSB ON IT. IN ADDITION TO MY VIEW OF THE ROAD BEING BLOCKED BY THIS PLASTIC FRAMED SUN VISOR, I'M ALSO AFRAID IF I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT, MY FACE OR A PASSENGERS COULD HIT THE SUN VISOR AND THE VISOR COULD CAUSE MAJOR FACIAL TRAUMA.
ACCORDING TO THE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS, STANDARD 208 SECTION 4.5.1(C), SUN VISORS MUST HAVE AIR BAG WARNING LABELS. HONDA CURRENTLY PROVIDES THESE WARNINGS ON THE SUN VISORS. HOWEVER, IF THE SUN VISOR BREAKS, THEN I WOULD BE FORCED TO REMOVE THE SUN VISOR IN ORDER TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE SAFELY. ONCE OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY PERIOD, THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER BE OPERATED IN COMPLIANCE WITH FEDERAL REGULATIONS. HONDA IS CURRENTLY BEING SUED IN COOPER, ET AL. V. AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC., CASE NO. BC 448670 BECAUSE OF THE SUN VISOR BREAKING ON A REGULAR BASIS. BY SETTLING THE CASE, THEY ARE ESSENTIALLY ADMITTING THE SUN VISOR IS PRONE TO BREAKING. I DO NOT BELIEVE A CAR OWNER SHOULD PAY TO REPLACE A REQUIREMENT FOR FEDERAL STANDARDS. *KB
I AM CURRENTLY HAVING ISSUES WITH THE REAR TIRES ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC EX. ONCE MY VEHICLE REACHED ROUGHLY 17,000 MILES, I STARTED TO HEAR EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR TIRES. NOT THINKING MUCH ABOUT IT, AT ROUGHLY 20,000 MILES, THE SOUND WAS GETTING WORSE. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY REAR TIRES HAD A FLAT SPOT ON EACH TIRE. THEY SAID THAT IT LOOKED LIKE SOMEONE HAD PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AT HIGH SPEED. I DROVE IT FOR 500 MILES MORE AND COULD NOT TAKE THE LOUD HUMMING COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE. AT THIS POINT I DECIDED TO REPLACE THE TIRES. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THE SUSPENSION. THERE WERE MANY (8) FLAT SPOTS ON ONLY THE REAR TIRES. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WHICH WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER 2005. SHE NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE IN THE GAS MILEAGE BETWEEN 10 TO 15 MPG. SHE ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING UPHILL OR ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER. THERE WERE NO RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. NOTICED A WHINING TYPE SOUND ON MY 2006 HONDA CIVIC SEDAN WITH 8275 MILES. POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LOW BY 4.6 OUNCES, WELL BELOW THE INTAKE HOSE FOR THE SYSTEM. DEALER INFORMS ME REPLACEMENT OF RACK AND PINION IS NECESSARY DUE TO LEAK, FLUID SHOOTS OUT WHEN PUMP IS RUNNING. WARRANTY, NO OUT OF POCKET COST. LOSS OF USE WHILE AWAITING PARTS ORDER, 4 DAYS TOTAL LOSS. *JB

WHEN SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE AND PUT ON THE SEAT BELT, SHE NOTICED THAT THE MOTOR WOULD PULL REALLY FAST AS IF IT WOULD MOVE FORWARD. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE MOTOR REVVED EXTREMELY FAST AND THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE MOTOR. ON ONE OCCASION, THE MOTOR EVEN CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATE BACKWARDS. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE SOURCE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 20,965 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 18,000.

THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY FOR THE FAILURE AND TO REQUEST ASSISTANCE FROM THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE REPAIR SHOP. THE INSURANCE COMPANY AGREED TO ASSIST HER WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21985 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25000. RK
SUN VISORS IN 2006 HONDA CIVICS ARE NO GOOD. WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND ARE AVERAGING 1 SUN VISOR PER YEAR. IN FOUR YEARS NOW THE DRIVER SIDE HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE AS WELL AS THE PASSENGER SIDE. NOW, THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE IT. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND HONDA IS OR HAS DONE NOTHING THE BETTER THESE VISORS. IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR ME TO PAY FOR THE SAME PRODUCT KNOWING THAT IT WILL DO SAME THING AGAIN. HONDA NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A BETTER DESIGN AND RECALL THESE VEHICLE'S BEFORE ONE FALLS DOWN IN SOMEONE'S FACE AND THERE IS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
BOTH VISORS IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT FAILED, DUE TO POOR DESIGN. WELDED PLASTIC SEAM IS NOT TOUGH ENOUGH TO HANDLE SPRING TENSION, BOTH FAILED AND FELL TO DOWN POSITION ALL TIME, CAUSES A VISIBILITY ISSUE. *JB
REAR TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT APPROXIMATELY 18,000 MILES. REAR TIRES AGAIN REPLACED AT 40,000 MILES. REAR TIRES AGAIN REPLACED AT 65,000 MILES. ALL TIRES REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE AS HONDA WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM. INSANELY LOUD RUMBLING NOISE COMING FROM REAR END OF VEHICLE STARTING AROUND 15,000 MILES. DEALER SAID THAT'S NORMAL. INDEPENDENT SHOP MANAGED TO GET ALIGNMENT WITHIN SPECIFICATIONS ALTHOUGH IT WAS "VERY DIFFICULT" TO GET THE ALIGNMENT TO MEET HONDA'S SPECIFICATIONS. REAR END CONTINUES TO RUMBLE AND MAKE LOUD NOISE. HONDA DEALERS WILL NOT FIX ISSUE. *TT
MULTIPLE SETS OF TIRES REPLACED DUE TO PREMATURE TIRE WEAR ON REAR TIRES. HONDA TSB 08-001 RECOGNIZES GEOMETRY ISSUE OF NEGATIVE CAMBER ON THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME AS I DIDN'T KNOW THE TIRES WERE WEARING PREMATURELY UNTIL I HAD THE TIRES INSPECTED. THE HANDLING IS AFFECTED DUE TO A ROARING OR THUMPING VIBRATION COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. NEW TIRES WEAR IN LESS THAN 10,000 MILES CAUSING UNDUE BURDEN ON THE CONSUMERS PART TO REPLACE THE TIRES IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. HONDA WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AS IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND REPAIRS MUST BE COVERED BY THE CONSUMER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR RELEASED WITHOUT ASSISTANCE AND FAILED TO REMAIN IN THE UPWARD POSITION. THE DEFECTIVE SUN VISOR OBSTRUCTED THE DRIVER'S VISIBILITY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION OR STATIONARY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES AND REPAIRS WERE MADE AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,322 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,404.
APPROX IN THE MONTH OF DECEMBER 2006 MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE DEFECT. WAS NOTIFIED EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AND WHEN I LEFT THE DEALER THE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. ON JULY 21, 2007 THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHILE CLOSING THE PASSENGER DOOR, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT RUNNING. THE CURTAIN AND SEAT BOTH DEPLOYED. FOLLOWED UP WITH AN APPOINTMENT AT POMPANO HONDA. SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY AMERICAN HONDA DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES. THE REP CAME INTO THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND DENIED THE CLAIM. HE SAID THAT THE DEPLOYMENT WAS DUE TO IMPACT IN ON MY BUMPER WHICH PREVIOUSLY HAPPENED A YEAR PRIOR TO THE DEPLOYMENT. I SINCE THEN HAVE HAD TO PAY $1500.00 TO COVER THE REPAIR. I FEEL AS IF THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED THROUGH AMERICAN HONDA AS A SAFETY ISSUE DEFECT. I AM REFERRING TO YOU FOR POSSIBLE ASSISTANCE IN REVIEWING THIS ISSUE ON MY BEHALF. HONDA WOULD NOT ALLOW ME ACCESS TO MY SERVICE FILE AND PHOTOGRAPHS THE REP TOOK OF MY VEHICLE, WHICH DENIED MY CLAIM. POMPANO HONDA TOLD ME THE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE PROPERTY OF HONDA. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TIRE COMPANY, THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AND ALIGNED. ELEVEN MONTHS LATER, THE IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON THE REAR TIRE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS ALIGNED. HE STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAPPEN AGAIN ELEVEN MONTHS LATER AND HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED HIM THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM NEEDED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR BROKE OFF COMPLETELY. THE INTERNAL MECHANISM USED TO RAISE AND LOWER THE VISOR DOES NOT MOVE EASILY -- NOW, NOT AT ALL --CAUSING THE PLASTIC VISOR TO FALL APART. DEALER HAS AGREED TO REPLACE IT, BUT IT IS ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS WITH THIS COMPONENT. *JB
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR HAS COMPLETELY SPLIT APART NOT ALLOWING IT TO CLOSE. IT HANGS DOWN IN FRONT OF MY LINE OF VISION AND WILL NOT STAY BACK UP. IT OBSTRUCTS MY VIEW WHEN I TRY TO DRIVE AND ESPECIALLY MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE AT NIGHT. MY BOYFRIEND CANNOT EVEN DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE HE CAN'T SEE BELOW THE VISOR. THE VISOR STARTED TO CRACK SLIGHTLY WHEN MY CAR PASSED ITS 36K MILE WARRANTY, BUT EVERY SUMMER IT HAS CRACKED FURTHER AND FURTHER WHERE IT'S NOW TO THE POINT THAT THE SUN VISOR WON'T STAY UP FOR A SECOND. I CALLED THE NATIONAL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND THEY SAID THAT THE DEALERSHIPS NEED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIPS WON'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM UNLESS THERE IS PAID A "DIAGNOSIS FEE" (AND EVEN AT THAT POINT THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT NATIONAL HONDA WILL CORRECT THE ISSUE). THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT COMPLETELY OBSTRUCTS A DRIVER'S LINE OF VISION AND ESPECIALLY IMPAIRS NIGHT TIME DRIVING. *TR
SUN VISORS ON BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE GLUE GIVES OUT CAUSING THE CLAMP TO LOSE TENSION AND THE VISOR TO FALL DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THIS CAN STARTLE THE DRIVER CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT HAS YET TO FIX THE PART. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE VISORS REPLACED THREE TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2006. THIS ISSUE AFFECTS CIVICS BOTH TWO AND FOUR DOOR MODELS IN THE 2006 THRU 2010 YEAR MODELS. I CURRENTLY HAVE 111,000 MILES ON MY CAR WITH A PASSENGER SIDE VISOR WHICH HAS GONE OUT FOR THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN. WHEN ADDED TO THE VISORS WHICH CAME WITH THE CAR, I CURRENTLY HAVE HAD FOUR GO BAD ON THE DRIVERS SIDE AND FIVE GO BAD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. HONDA MAKES VISORS THAT WILL NOT GO BAD IN THIS WAY IN THEIR OTHER MODELS. THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, SUN VISOR DESIGN. *TR
EVEN BEFORE I REACHED 10,000 MILES ON MY CAR I HAD TO HAVE ALL 4 TIRES REPLACED BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL ONES WERE CUPPING. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE I HAD NOT ROTATED THE TIRES ANY WARRANTY WOULD BE VOIDED. *TR

WHILE GOING HOME THE CAR JERKED LOST ALL POWER AND STARTED SMOKING. I CALLED THE SO CALLED HONDA ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY TOLD ME ITS LATE ON SUNDAY WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO. LEAVE THE CAR WHERE ITS AT AND WE WILL TRY TO PICK IT UP TOMORROW I PAID THE TOW. IT TURNED OUT THE BELT TENSIONER BOLT BROKE TAKING OUT THE WATER PUMP , TENSIONER, CRANK SHAFT PULLEY, AND THE BELT CAR HAD 17,000 MILES AND I HAD TO PAY THE TOW. *TR
