SUN VISORS FOR HONDA CIVIC 2007 COUPE CRACK (BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE). *TR
SUN VISOR ON DRIVER'S SIDE SPLITS OPEN CAUSING IT TO SAG AND BLOCK THE DRIVERS VIEW. THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE IT STAY UP. *TR
AT ISSUE IS DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR FOR 2007 HONDA, PER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT DEALERSHIP, THERE IS A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING THAT LEAD TO A SEPARATION OF THE VISOR ON THE SEAM SO THAT THE VISOR DOES NOT GO UP AND STAY UP CAUSING ISSUES WITH VISIBILITY. WHILE DRIVING, SEAM SEPARATED FURTHER WHILE TRYING TO HOLD UP THE VISOR TO SEE A ROAD SIGN WHICH LED TO THE VISOR HANGING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON AN EXPRESSWAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OFF OF THE HINGE AND TOSS IT ON THE SEAT AVERTING AN ACCIDENT. PER SERVICE DESK PERSONNEL, NO IMPROVEMENT IN THE PART HAS BEEN MADE BY HONDA TO DATE. AS PER REVIEW OF BLOGS ON THE INTERNET, SOME OWNERS HAVE REPLACED THE VISORS MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR
SUNVISOR OF 2007 HONDA CIVIC CRACKED; VISOR HANGS DOWN, IMPAIRING VISION. *TR
THE SUNVISOR ON MY 07 HONDA CIVIC CRACKED AND HANGS DOWN, OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW (ESPECIALLY OF SIGNAL LIGHTS). THIS OCCURRED ON IT'S OWN. I DON'T PULL IT DOWN OFTEN, SO IT'S RECEIVED NO SORT OF ABUSES NOR ANYTHING THAT COULD HAVE POSSIBLY CAUSED A BREAK. I RESEARCHED THE PART TO FIND A CHEAP REPLACEMENT WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT I AM AMONG A MULTITUDE OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME THING! TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN AUGUST 2010, THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER AND NOT ACCELERATE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE REPROGRAMMING WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 28,000.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE VISOR IS DEFECTIVE. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE SEAL ON THE HINGE FOR THE VISOR HAS COME UNDONE (NOT DUE TO ANY EXCESS FORCE, SIMPLY DUE TO GENERAL EVERYDAY USE). THE DEFECTIVE HINGE ON THE VISOR LEADS TO THE INABILITY TO PROPERLY POSITION THE VISOR, WHEN IN USE, OR NOT IN USE. WHEN IN USE, THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD DUE TO OBSTRUCTING THE DRIVER'S VISION BY THE VISOR ITSELF DUE TO INABILITY TO PROPERLY POSITION THE VISOR (IT DOES NOT STAY IN PLACE), OR AFFECTING THE DRIVER'S VISION DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO PROPERLY SHIELD GLARE AND SUN DUE TO THE INABILITY TO PROPERLY POSITION THE VISOR WHILE DRIVING. WHEN NOT IN USE, THE VISOR MAY NOT STAY IN PLACE, THEREFORE "FLOPPING" IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S LINE OF VISION. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT, WHEN RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET, IS LARGE PROBLEM WITH HONDA CIVIC OWNERS LIKE MYSELF. THIS HAS NOT YET CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT, BUT I'M TRYING TO BE PROACTIVE IN PREVENTING SUCH AN INCIDENT. I HAVE TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TO SPEAK WITH MY HONDA SERVICE PEOPLE, AND I'VE BEEN TOLD THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE PEOPLE HAVE TOLD ME THEY SEE THIS COMPLAINT "ALL THE TIME." THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND PROPERLY HANDLED. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING INTO THIS MATTER.
SINCE I HAVE GOTTEN THE IMA BATTERY UPGRADE THE CAR BATTERY COMPLETELY DISCHARGES RANDOMLY SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. WHEN THE BATTERY DISCHARGES THE CAR LOOSES A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF ITS ACCELERATION. IT FREQUENTLY LOOSES ALL BARS ON THE BATTERY GAUGE, SIGNIFYING A RECALIBRATION EVENT. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE CAR IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AT A REASONABLE SPEED SINCE THE HYBRID SYSTEM IS TRYING TO CHARGE THE BATTERY INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING THE CAR. IN ADDITION, YOU HAVE TO DRIVE SLOWLY AND AVOID ANY SITUATIONS THAT MAY REQUIRE QUICK ACCELERATION WHILE THIS IS OCCURRING OR ELSE YOU MIGHT BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE HAD THREE INCIDENTS SINCE THIS UPGRADE WHERE I HAVE NEARLY HAD ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AT APPROX. 45 MPH IN MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC.SEEING THAT THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL HAD JUST TURNED RED I APPLIED THE BRAKES. AT THAT INSTANT I HEARD A "POP" AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKE LIGHT WARNING LIGHT WAS DISPLAYED ON MY DASHBOARD. FORTUNATELY I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT STRIKING ANYONE. I "NURSED" THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAD A BLOWN BRAKE LINE. A NEW LINE WAS INSTALLED , AT A COST OF $280.00. I WAS TOLD THAT "YOU MUST HAVE HIT SOMETHING WHICH SHOT UP AND STRUCK THE LINE". I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT, JUST AS I STATED ABOVE, "I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AND HEARD A POP! I DEFINITELY DID NOT STRIKE ANYTHING! I THEN REQUESTED THE REPLACED BRAKE LINE WHICH I NOW HAVE IN MY POSSESSION. *TR
ON 2/2009 I WAS REAR ENDED IN MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC SI DURING A LOW SPEED ACCIDENT (5MPH) THE REPAIRS COMPLETED WERE A NEW REAR BUMPER COVER AND PAINT BY A HONDA DEALER BODY SHOP. ABOUT 11 MONTHS LATER THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD FLICK ON AND OFF ON THE DASH. DURING WARRANTY REPAIR WORK TO 3RD GEAR ISSUES (1/2010) THAT I'VE NOW HAD MULTIPLE TIMES, I ASKED THAT HONDA LOOK INTO THE AIRBAG LIGHT. THEY REPLACED WHAT THEY SAID WAS A BAD SENSOR IN THE REAR BUMPER. 5 MONTHS LATER, ON 6/22/2010 DURING THE 3RD GEAR ISSUE BEING FIXED AGAIN, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS RANDOMLY COMING ON AGAIN. ONCE MORE, I ASKED THAT HONDA LOOK INTO THIS. THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A FAULTY SENSOR AGAIN AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE IT, IF THAT DIDN'T WORK, THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE A FLOORING HARNESS. ALL AIRBAG SENSOR WORK DONE HAS BEEN PAID FOR BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT ON 2/2009. ON 7/30/2010 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, THE SIDE IMPACT AND SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND MINOR INJURIES TO MYSELF (JAW PAIN, SORE RIBS, AND EAR ACHE) LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PULL OVER IN A SAFE LOCATION. AFTER TALKING TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE, I WAS ADVISED TO REPORT THIS INCIDENT TO THE NHTSA. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC EX FAULTY AC CONDENSER. STOPPED WORKING ABRUPTLY. DEALER TOLD ME BEFORE LOOKING AT IT THAT IT WAS A ROCK THAT HAD PUT A HOLE IN IT. INDICATED THEY HAD SEEN NUMEROUS CONDENSERS ON 2007 HONDA MODELS THAT THIS HAD HAPPENED. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE IT, EVEN WITH IT UNDER WARRANTY SINCE THEY DETERMINED IT TO BE A ROCK THAT CAUSED THIS SMALL HOLE. I FOLLOWED UP ON INTERNET AND SAW THAT THERE HAVE BEEN HUNDREDS OF OTHER HONDA OWNERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM AND HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A DEFECTIVE MAKE IN THIS VEHICLE. HONDA DOES NOT WANT TO ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. A CAR 3 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS HAPPENING TO IT. I HAVE MAINTAINED THIS CAR WITH ALL SERVICE AGREEMENTS AND MAINTENANCE RECORDS. *TR
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID THAT I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRES ON 3 TIMES AND THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 45,000 MILES. COUNTING THE ORIGINAL TIRES THAT CAME ON THE VEHICLE THAT'S 4-SETS OF TIRES. THESE TIRES WERE 70,000 MILE RATED TIRES. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER IN LITTLE ROCK, AR AND THEY ADVISE THAT THERE IS NO RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEM; HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ATTRIBUTED IT TO A DEFECTIVE REAR CAMBER ARM. THEY ADVISED ME THAT THERE IS A PUBLIC SAFETY BULLETIN 08-001ON THE PART. BECAUSE NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE DEFECTIVE REAR CAMBER ARM THEY ADVISED ME THAT IT WOULD COST $700 TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ONES. THE EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR CAUSED BY THIS DEFECTIVE PART CAN EASILY RESULT IN TIRE BLOW-OUTS, VEHICLE ACCIDENTS, AND HIGHWAY FATALITIES. THE FACT THAT A KNOWN SAFETY DEFICIENCY EXIST THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF BUT UNWILLING TO CORRECT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC SUNVISORS BREAK - REPEATEDLY, AND HANG IN VIEW OF DRIVER. I HAVE HAD DRIVER AND PASSENGER VISOR BREAK AND UNDERSTAND IT IS A DEFECT THAT HONDA DOES NOT RECOGNIZE OR SUPPORT. HONDA DEALER ADMITS THAT NEARLY ALL HONDA CIVICS HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR
PLASTIC DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR SEPARATED AT SEAM DURING WARM WEATHER AND NO LONGER MAINTAINED UP OR DOWN POSITION. VISOR BECAME AN OBSTRUCTION TO THE DRIVER'S VISION AND COULD ONLY BE REMOVED FROM VIEW WITH CONSTANT PRESSURE OR COMPLETE REMOVAL. *TR
THE SUNVISOR IN MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC SPLIT AT THE SEAMS AND WILL NO LONGER STAY UP. IT HANGS DOWN INTO MY FIELD OF VISION. I HAVE TALKED TO SEVERAL OTHER HONDA OWNERS AND THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO THEM- AND WITH REPLACEMENT PARTS THAT THEY HAVE PURCHASED. APPARENTLY THE HONDA SUNVISORS BREAK IN HIGH HEAT. CAR LOST OVER 15 MPG FOR A NUMBER OF MONTHS, EXTREME DECREASE IN ACCELERATION NECESSARY FOR CAR TO SAFELY MERGE OR TURN INTO TRAFFIC, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 35-40 MPH WHEN ENTERING INTERSTATE TRAFFIC, IMA AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS EVENTUALLY CAME ON, COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE IMA BATTER MODULE, MODULE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT SOFTWARE HAS BEEN REPROGRAMMED, CAR STILL HAS LESS POWER AND A LOSS OF APPROX 10 MPG, HONDA STATES THERE IS NO FIX AT THIS TIME, BUT THAT CAR IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED
THE SUN VISORS ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FAILED. THE POOR DESIGN OF THE VISORS IS THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE. THE AMOUNT OF FORCE REQUIRED TO MOVE THE SUN VISOR UP OR DOWN EVENTUALLY "UNWELDS" THE PLASTIC FRONT FROM THE PLASTIC BACK. THE RESULT IS THE VISOR IS STUCK IN THE DOWN POSITION RESULTING IN A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR SPLIT OPEN. ONE FINE AFTERNOON, I TRIED TO MOVE THE SUN VISOR IN MY CAR, THE PLASTIC SPLIT OPEN WITH CRACK SOUND. I THOUGHT IT JUST THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR, BUT WHEN I STARTED LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT, I FOUND LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. ADDING A COMPLAIN TO LET YOU KNOW ITS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH HONDA CIVIC. *TR
REFERENCE HONDA TSB 08-001. INCORRECT/DEFECTIVE UPPER REAR CONTROL ARMS INSTALLED DURING MANUFACTURE OF VEHICLE LEADING TO EXCESSIVE WEAR ON REAR TIRES. THIS LEADS TO EXCESSIVE NOISE/VIBRATION FROM REAR AND ALSO POSSIBLY AFFECTS CONTROL/HANDLING OF VEHICLE. *TR
REPORTED TO DEALER THAT CENTER HIGH MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. AFTER BRAKE LIGHT TOTALLY STOPPED WORKING RETURNED TO DEALER (10,000 MILES LATER) AND WAS TOLD IT WAS MORE THAN LIKELY A BURNED OUT BULB. THE BRAKE LIGHT DOESN'T HAVE A BULB BUT A ROW OF 5 LEDS. WAS TOLD TO RETURN THE FOLLOWING WEEK TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. I REMOVED THE LIGHT AT HOME AND FOUND A CLIP THE POWER WIRE GOING TO THE LIGHT WAS WRAPPED AROUND WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. TAKING THE WIRE OFF THE CLIP WHERE IT WAS TIGHTLY WRAPPED AROUND FIXED THE PROBLEM AND THE LIGHT WORKED EVERY TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. STILL WAITING TO CONTACT HONDA USA ABOUT THE PROBLEM. LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON GOOGLE AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE LIGHT NOT WORKING CONSISTENTLY. THE DESIGN OF THE LED BRAKE LIGHT SEEMS TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS. *TR
I OWN A 2007 HONDA CIVIC THAT WAS BOUGHT NEW IN JULY 2007. IN AUGUST 2007 THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR CAME APART AND WAS HANGING DOWN MAKING IT HARD TO SEE WHEN DRIVING. SINCE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THE DEALER REPLACED IT FOR FREE. AT THE TIME THEY HAD TOLD US THEY REPLACED NUMEROUS VISORS. NOW IT'S AUGUST 2010 AND IT'S BROKEN AGAIN. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALER WILL NOT REPLACE THE VISOR FOR THIS REASON. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES APART IT HANGS STRAIGHT DOWN AND CAN'T BE PUSHED UP TO STAY. I HAVE READ ONLINE FORUMS WHERE NUMEROUS PEOPLE ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED THE HONDA DEALER WHERE I LIVE NOW IN TENNESSEE THEY SAID THEY HAVE REPLACED A 'TON" OF THE VISORS. OBVIOUSLY HONDA HAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. *TR
THE HONDA 07 CIVIC SUN VISORS ARE DEFECTIVE AND MUST BE RECALLED! THE HEAT CAUSES THE VISORS TO CRACK AND BECOME SUSPENDED IN THE DOWN POSITION. AFTER IT CRACKS IT WILL NOT LOCK IN THE UP POSITION. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP ADMITS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND I MUST PAY TO HAVE IT FIXED NOW THAT MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED! THIS WILL BE THE SECOND TIME I'VE REPLACED BOTH VISORS. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR OF MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC HAS SUDDENLY SPLIT AND WILL NOT STAY UP. IT HANGS DOWN OBSTRUCTING MY VIEW OF THE ROAD-A SAFETY HAZARD. IT DOESN'T STAY ALL THE WAY UP OR DOWN. IT HAS SPLIT AT THE PLASTIC SEAM & THE SPRING MECHANISM SEEMS TO BE BROKEN. THIS SUN VISOR WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, AS THE COLOR WAS TAN AND MY CAR IS GREY. MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY & I AM TAKING IT TO THE DEALER FOR A REPLACEMENT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM RELATED TO HEAT IN THE CABIN. I LIVE IN THE SOUTH BUT LEAVE MY FRONT WINDOWS OPEN 2 INCHES AS I HAVE SIDE VISORS & DO NOT PARK IN A GARAGE. *TR
I OWN A 07 HONDA CIVIC THAT HAS A MAJOR FACTORY PROBLEM WITH THE REAR CONTROL ARM. THE VEHICLE CAN'T STAY ALIGNED AND IS A PART THE HAVE TO BE REPLACE. HONDA HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS SAFETY PROBLEM BUT WE I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER, THEY DO NOT COVER IT UNDER WARRANTY ON A CPO VEHICLE. I CHECKED ON THE INTERNET AND A LOT OF OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE. HONDA SHOULD DO A RECALL AND OFFER TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE PART. THE VEHICLE BOUNCE WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING AND THE NOISE IS REAL BAD. HOPEFULLY OTHER OWNERS HAVE CONTACTED YOU WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND CONCERN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN THROUGH TWO SETS OF TIRES IN LESS THAN 38,000 MILES. THE FACTORY TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED IN 2009 BECAUSE OF PREMATURE WEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RELATED TSB FOR THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS; THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR PREMATURE WEAR AGAIN AND THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,000.
PASSENGER SUN VISOR CRACKED DUE TO HEAT AND WILL NOT STAY IN UP POSITION OR CORRECT SLANTED POSITION FOR CORRECT VISIBILITY. APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM ON GOOGLE BLOG SITES WHERE HONDA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT IS IGNORING THE ISSUE (I.E., REPLACEMENT PART IS THE SAME DEFECTIVE PART THAT FAILS AGAIN). *TR
THE INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST (IMA) SYSTEM ON MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING ON A DAILY BASIS SINCE THE WEATHER HAS BEEN GREATER THAN 90 DEGREES THIS YEAR. THE SYSTEM BEHAVES ERRATICALLY WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING AN EXTREME DECREASE IN THE HYBRID MOTOR BATTERY CHARGE AND OVERALL VEHICLE POWER AT UNEXPECTED TIMES. THIS LOSS OF POWER CAUSES A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE ANTICIPATED PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING THE LACK OF SUFFICIENT POWER TO OVERTAKE A VEHICLE (PASS) OR TO MAINTAIN A SAFE SPEED RELATIVE TO OTHER CARS WHEN ON AN INCLINE, WITHOUT A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN THE GAS ENGINE RPM. ADDITIONALLY, THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP AT A COMPARABLE RATE TO OTHER VEHICLES IS NOT POSSIBLE WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF THE IMA, CAUSING UNEXPECTED BACKUPS OF TRAFFIC BEHIND MY VEHICLE. AT TIMES (INTERMITTENT PROBLEM) THE REGENERATIVE CHARGING SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE FIGHTING WITH THE VEHICLES ACCELERATION WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THIS CAUSES RANDOM CHANGES IN THE BRAKING POWER AND THE RESULTANT BRAKE PRESSURE REQUIRED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS RESULTS IN SMALL AND UNEXPECTED POWER/ACCELERATING SURGES WHEN COMING TO A STOP, WHICH COMPROMISES THE ABILITY TO SAFELY JUDGE THE DISTANCE AND SPEED AT WHICH TO BEGIN APPLYING THE BRAKE IN ANTICIPATION OF AN UPCOMING STOP. *TR

2007 HONDA CIVIC EX 4DR - THE ENGINE LEAKED COOLANT WITH NO WARNING. HAD IT TOWED TO HONDA DEALER AND THEY SAY THE ENGINE BLOCK IS CRACKED AT THE COOLANT PASSAGES. HONDA DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE SEEN THIS IN THE PAST (TSB #SB-08-044). I AM BEING TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT I NEED A NEW ENGINE BLOCK (APPROX $5,000.00). THE CAR HAS 99,600 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. ALL MAINTENANCE / SERVICE HAS BEEN PROVIDED BY THE HONDA DEALER FOR CARS LIFE. MY DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR IN MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX SUDDENLY FELL FROM THE STORED POSITION AND WOULDN'T GO BACK UP IN PLACE. SUN VISOR FAILED, RESULTING IN REDUCED VISIBILITY. *TR
THE VEHICLE'S HYBRID IMA SYSTEM (INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST) HAS BEEN STEADILY DETERIORATING SINCE APPROXIMATELY 40000 MILES, BUT BECAME HAZARDOUS AT AROUND 63000. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 78500. THE HYBRID BATTERY SYSTEM MUST RECHARGE SO FREQUENTLY THAT BATTERY ASSIST IS AVAILABLE LESS THAN HALF THE TIME. WHEN ASSIST IS UNAVAILABLE, ACCELERATION IS DANGEROUSLY LOW, MAKING COMMON DRIVING SITUATIONS SUCH AS LEFT TURNS, FREEWAY ONRAMPS, AND MERGING INTO TRAFFIC UNPREDICTABLE AND QUITE HAZARDOUS. HONDA'S ONLY RESPONSE HAS BEEN A SERIES OF INEFFECTIVE SOFTWARE UPDATES. HONDA WILL NOT REPLACE THE BATTERY UNDER WARRANTY UNLESS A WARNING LIGHT APPEARS. YET EVEN THE CURRENT SEVERELY DEGRADED PERFORMANCE OF THE BATTERY DOES NOT TRIGGER THAT WARNING LIGHT. I HAVE BEEN IN SEVERAL "NEAR MISS" SITUATIONS WHEN ACCELERATION WAS SO SLUGGISH THAT I WAS NEARLY UNABLE TO EVADE A DANGEROUS TRAFFIC SITUATION.
SUNVISOR ON PASSENGER SIDE HAS SPLIT AND WILL NOT STAY UP. THIS IS ANNOYING AND A SAFETY HAZARD. THE DRIVERS SIDE DID THE SAME THING WHILE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THEREFORE HONDA REPLACED IT FOR FREE. I DRIVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE CAR IS BARELY 3 YEARS OLD WITH LESS THAN 36,000 MILES. IN JUNE WHILE STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP ON A HILL AND DRIVING IN GENTLY ROLLING HILLS THE INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST WOULD OFTEN FAIL TO ENGAGE TO PROVIDE THE EXTRA POWER NEEDED TO CLIMB THE HILL. THE ENGINE REVVED TO 3000 - 3500 RPM BUT HAD NO POWER. WHEN STARTING FROM THE DEAD STOP THE CAR COULD NOT HOLD IT'S POSITION ON THE HILL. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE CAUSE BUT THEY APPLIED TWO SOFTWARE UPDATES TO THE COMPUTER THAT MIGHT HELP. THEY ALSO CONTACTED THE HONDA TECHLINE. HONDA TOLD MY DEALER THAT GIVEN THE AGE OF THE BATTERY (3 YEARS) AND WHEN THE TEMPERATURE REACHES 100 DEGREES (THERE WAS A COINCIDENTAL HEAT WAVE IN THE EAST) THIS WAS NORMAL OPERATION. ON THE SPECIFIC DAY THIS PROBLEM STARTED TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE EIGHTIES. THE DEALER SPENT TWO WEEKS TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND A THIRD WEEK ARGUING WITH HONDA THAT THE CAR DID NOT RUN RIGHT. AT THIS POINT I CONTACTED HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY OPENED AN 'INVESTIGATION'. THEY TOOK MY STATEMENT AND CONTACTED THE DEALER. THEIR CONCLUSION WAS THAT THE CAR IS OPERATING PERFECTLY NORMALLY. THIS TIME THEY SAID THAT GIVEN THE AGE OF THE BATTERY, IF YOU USE THE IMA TOO MUCH THE IMA BATTERY MAY OVERHEAT AND SHUT DOWN. THAT IS HONDA'S OFFICIAL POSITION AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE SAFETY CONCERNS OF THIS PROBLEM ARE OBVIOUS. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS. MY WIFE DRIVES A 2003 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID WITH OVER 100,000 MILES AND HAS NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM. THERE WAS A TOTAL REDESIGN OF THE CIVIC IN 2006. PERHAPS THE HONDA ENGINEERS OUTSMARTED THEMSELVES AND INTRODUCED A DESIGN FLAW. EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR AND LOUD NOISE FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. WE HAVE REPLACED TWO SETS OF TIRES, ONCE AT 11,000 MILES AND AT 36,000 MILES AND THEY ARE AGAIN WORN AT 58,461 MILES. WE LEARNED OF A SERVICE BULLETIN, SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER : 08-001 DATE OF BULLETIN : FEB 08, 2008, ISSUED BY HONDA AND AFTER MUCH COMPLAINING SINCE WE WERE A FEW HUNDRED MILES PAST THE 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE MARK THE DEALER MADE THE REPAIRS AND ALIGNED THE CAR. WE HAVE ROTATED THE TIRES REGULARLY AND THE LOUD NOISE IS BACK AS WELL AS EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR. I FIND IT RIDICULOUS TO HAVE TO REPLACE TIRES LIKE THIS BECAUSE THE TIRE WARRANTY IS VOID BECAUSE THE TREAD IN ONE SECTION IS BEYOND THE LIMIT FOR REPLACEMENT. I WAS ALMOST IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AS I WENT TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN, AND THE CAR ONLY ACCELERATED AT ABOUT 1/4 OF ITS NORMAL PACE. I HAD TO LOOK DOWN TO MAKE SURE MY FOOT WAS ON THE GAS. WHEN THIS ACCELERATION FAILURE OCCURRED, THE BATTERY SHOWED NO CHARGE, BUT IT HAD SHOWN ALMOST A FULL CHARGE WHEN I FIRST STARTED THE CAR, JUST A FEW MINUTES EARLIER. MY CAR NOW CANNOT HOLD A CHARGE AT ALL. I PARK IT FULLY CHARGED, AND WHEN I START, IT SHOWS FULLY CHARGED. WITHIN THE FIRST MILE OF DRIVING, IT DROPS TO 1 OR NO BARS. IT THEN HAS TROUBLE ACCELERATING, AS THE CAR CANNOT PULL FROM THE IMA AND IT TRIES TO CHARGE THE IMA, INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING. THIS FAILURE IS NOW OCCURRING DAILY. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE TO WORK, AS I DON'T KNOW WHEN I CAN MERGE ONTO INTERSTATE AND IF THE CAR WILL FAIL. IT IS USUALLY FINE AFTER ABOUT 10 MILES OF DRIVING, BUT MY COMMUTE IS ONLY 12 MILES, SO I WOULD SAY THIS MAKES A VERY LARGE % OF MY COMMUTE DANGEROUS. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT UPDATED SOFTWARE, BUT THIS HAS NOT IMPROVED THE SITUATION AT ALL. I AM KEEPING A JOURNAL OF THESE DAILY ACTIVITIES, AS THE IMA IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. MY GAS MILEAGE DROPPED 20% OVER THE PAST YEAR, EVEN THOUGH I DO USE ETHANOL FREE GAS. THIS WAS THE FIRST INDICATION THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE IMA, BUT HONDA SIMPLY GAVE ME THE BRUSH OFF EVERYTIME I EXPRESSED A CONCERN THAT THIS WAS AN EARLY SIGN THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. *TR
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE HONDA CIVIC HYBRID RELIES ON THE HYBRID BATTERIES (IMA BATTERIES) TO POWER THE VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATIONS AND ON A NORMAL BASIS THE BATTERIES ARE RECHARGED DURING VEHICLE DECELERATIONS. THE ISSUE I AM HAVING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A YEAR WITH NO SUPPORT TO FIX THE ISSUE FROM HONDA. THE CHARGE IN MY IMA BATTERIES IS ALWAYS 0-2 BARS (I HAVE PHOTOS SHOWING THIS) WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO HAVE VERY LIMITED ACCELERATION. ADD THE A/C BEING ON NOW IN THE SUMMER AND THE CAR IS BASICALLY USELESS. ALSO, WHEN THE SYSTEM (VEHICLE COMPUTER) SEES THAT THE IMA BATTERIES ARE LOW OR EMPTY IT FORCES THE ENGINE TO RECHARGE THE BATTERIES WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED ,WHICH IS NOT A 'NORMAL' OPERATION. WHEN THE SYSTEM GOES INTO A 'FORCED' RECHARGE IT COMMANDS THE ENGINE TO GO TO A HIGHER RPM TO CHARGE THE BATTERIES WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED THIS IN TURN CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO JUMP OR LURCH FORWARD WHEN YOU RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS ALSO CONCERNS ME SINCE YOU NEED TO ENSURE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH SPACE BETWEEN YOU AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU AND ESPECIALLY LEAVE SPACE IF YOU ARE BEHIND A PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK. I HAVE CONTACT ALL THE HONDA DEALERS IN THE EAST VALLEY AND THEY TELL ME THE SAME STORY. THE ALL AGREE THAT BATTERIES SHOULD NEVER BE AT ZERO AND THE CAR SHOULD NOT JUMP/LURCH FORWARD, BUT UNLESS THE IMA LIGHT GOES ON IN THE DASHBOARD (P07AF BATTERY DETERIORATION CODE FOR HONDA) THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND THERE IS ANYTHING THEY CAN DO. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE MADE SURE VISOR WAS NEVER LEFT IN THE DOWN POSITION, HOWEVER THE VISOR SPLIT OPEN AGAIN WHILE IN THE UP POSITION. I WAS ONLY OUT OF THE CAR FOR 30 MINUTES. THE MILEAGE IS 53000, SO IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THIS APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT, ESPECIALLY SEEING HOW MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE.
