ENGINE BLOCK CRACKS UNEXPECTEDLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC COUPE AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON HIGHWAY 67 SOUTH NEAR NEWPORT, AR, MY REAR WINDOW FLEW OFF THE CAR. LUCKILY, THERE WERE NO CARS BEHIND ME AT THE TIME. AFTER SOME QUICK RESEARCH, THERE WERE A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS HAPPENING ON THE 2006 HONDA CIVIC COUPE. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS LITTLE TO NO ADHESIVE WHERE THE REAR WINDOW USED TO BE. I TALKED TO HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST TO REPLACE THE WINDOW BECAUSE MY CAR HAS 43K MILES ON IT.
IGNITION KEY MAY BE REMOVED WHEN VEHICLE IS NOT SHIFTED INTO "PARK." UNLESS THE PARKING BRAKE IS ENGAGED, THIS CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ROLL FROM AN APPARENTLY PARKED POSITION, CREATING A RISK OF DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND PERSONAL INJURY. *TR
I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE. I WAS PUSHING AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE BREAKS AND THEY WEREN'T WORKING. I THEN RAN INTO A TREE AND IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CAR INTO PARK. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF BECAUSE IT WAS SMOKING. I AM NOT SURE IF THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AFTER I HIT THE TREE OR NOT. I KNOW THAT MY FOOT WAS FIRMLY PLANTED ON THE BRAKE, CHECKED TO SEE WHERE MY FEET WERE AFTER HITTING THE TREE AND TURNING THE CAR OFF. I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE IN MY CAR. IT ONLY HAS 34000 MILES. IT HAS HAD REGULAR MAINTENANCE SUCH AS OIL CHANGE AND THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AT 25,000 MILES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISORS FRACTURED AND WOULD NOT STAY IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION, CAUSING OBSTRUCTION TO THE DRIVERS VIEW OF THE ROAD. THE SUN VISOR WAS REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF SUN VISOR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT OBSERVED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE READING WAS OVER THE HALF WAY POINT. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THERE WAS A COOLANT LEAK AND STEAM UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 62,409.
I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHERE I SHOULD PUT THIS INFORMATION, BUT I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH 31,000 MILES THAT THE DEALERSHIP STATES NEEDS NEW FRONT BRAKES. THEY TOLD ME RIGHT UP FRONT THAT THIS WAS COMMON IN THE CIVIC AND IF IT WAS AN ACCORD, IT WOULD BE REAR BRAKES. I HAVE DRIVEN CARS FOR OVER 45 YEARS, AND HAVE NEVER HAD A CAR THAT REQUIRES A BRAKE REPLACEMENT AT THIS LOW MILAGE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BECAUSE THE CONSUMER RATINGS FOR RELIABILITY AND DEPENDABILITY WERE THE HIGHEST I COULD FIND. THEY DID NOT MENTION THIS ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES. I AM NOT SURE WHO TO CONTACT, BUT OTHER CONSUMERS WOULD SURELY LIIKE TO BE AWARE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF HONDA.
EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR ON 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. DURING ROUTINE SERVICE AT 25,000 MILES AT HONDA DEALER, I WAS ADVISED THAT THE TIRES NEEDED REPLACING DUE TO WEAR. I COMPLAINED BECAUSE THESE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE 60,000 MILE TIRES. WHEN I KEPT COMPLAINING AND REFUSING TO HAVE THEM REPLACED WITH THE SAME BRAND OF TIRE (BRIDGESTONE), I WAS FINALLY ADVISED THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS WERE BAD AND HAD CAUSED THE EXCESSIVE WEAR. THE CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AND I RECEIVED A PARTIAL CREDIT ON THE NEW TIRES. I LATER RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND OBSERVED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS VERY SAME PROBLEM. IT IS WORTH THE MONEY ($26.00) TO PAY TO HAVE ACCESS TO THESE BULLETINS. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED ANOTHER SERVICE BULLETIN PROBLEM THAT AFFECTED MY CAR AND HAD IT REPAIRED. IT WAS AN SLUGGISH ACCELERATION PROBLEM WITH THE CIVIC HYBRIDS. *TR
MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID IMA BATTERY IS DISCHARGING/RECALIBRATING RANDOMLY CAUSING LOSS OF POWER. PRIOR TO THIS DATE I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TRY AND FIND A PROBLEM SINCE THIS BEGAN OCCURRING FREQUENTLY AND WAS A NEW ISSUE WITH THE CAR. NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND. ON THIS DATE, THE IMA BATTERY DISCHARGED WHILE MAKING A LEFT AT AN INTERSECTION, POWER WAS DRAINED, A CAR ALMOST HIT ME BECAUSE MY CAR COULD NOT ACCELERATE FAST ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. GIVEN THAT THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY THERE IS NO WAY TO PREDICT WHEN A RECALIBRATION/DISCHARGE WILL HAPPEN. IT HAS SINCE BEEN TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES. BECAUSE THERE IS NO ERROR CODE INDICATING THERE IS A PROBLEM THEY ARE REFUSING TO WORK ON IT EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IS STILL 100% UNDER WARRANTY. MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE BATTERIES AND THE CAR POWER LOSS. THOSE THAT HAVE BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET THE IMA BATTERY REPLACED HAVE REPORTED THE CAR BACK TO NORMAL WORKING CONDITIONS. I SHOULD NOTE, THAT WHEN I FIRST GOT MY CAR THE DISCHARGE/RECALIBRATION WOULD HAPPEN ONCE EVERY SEVERAL MONTHS. THIS NUMBER HAS BEEN INCREASING RAPIDLY AND NOW THE VEHICLE DOES THIS AT LEAST FOUR TIMES A WEEK. IN FEBRUARY IT DID IT TWO TIMES A WEEK, AND ABOUT 7 MONTHS AGO IT STARTED DOING IT ONCE A WEEK. THE MORE THIS OCCURS THE MORE I AM AT RISK FOR AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR SIMPLY DOES NOT HAVE POWER TO GET OUT OF THE WAY AND BECAUSE IT IS SUCH A DRASTIC CHANGE FROM NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS THE DRIVER CANNOT COMPENSATE. HONDA IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS AN ISSUE AND HAS BEEN COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE TO MY CONCERNS. *TR
THE REAR SUSPENSION AND THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM CAUSE EXCESSIVE AND PREMATURE WEAR ON TIRES REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF PREMIUM TIRES AFTER ONLY 20,000 MILES OR LESS. MY CAR HAS ABOUT 80K MILES AND IS IN NEED OF ITS 4TH SET OF TIRES. NEEDLES TO SAY THE WEAR CREATE UNSAFE CONDITIONS WHILE DRIVING FASTER THAN 50MPH MAKING DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE A RISKY ENDEAVOR. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC LX COUPE HAS DEFECTIVE SUN VISORS. AT FIRST VISOR VERY LOOSE. OVER TIME VISOR WOULD NOT STAY UP. THIS HINDERS DRIVING AND BEING ABLE TO SEE THE TRAFFIC SIGNALS. NOW THE ENTIRE VISOR HAS COME OFF AS IT WON'T STAY ON ITS HINGE. NOW I DRIVE IN THE MORNING FACING THE SUN AND DRIVE HOME FACING THE SUN. VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF YOU WITH THE SUN IN YOUR FACE. HONDA AGREES I CAN GET A REPLACEMENT AT MY EXPENSE BUT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A FLAW WITH MANY HONDA CIVIC OWNERS. *TR
THIS IS REGARDING A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. THE IMA SYSTEM/ELECTRIC BATTERY IS NOT WORKING AS IT USED TO. RECENTLY THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY HONDA TO HAVE THE IMA SOFTWARE UPDATED AT ANY HONDA DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE BULLETIN DEALT WITH THE ISSUE OF THE ELECTRIC BATTERY NOT CHARGING PROPERLY AND NO/MINIMAL ASSIST FROM THE IMA SYSTEM WHEN ACCELERATING. THERE IS NO CHANGE IN HOW THE CAR IS PERFORMING AFTER THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THE MPG HAS GONE DOWN FROM 42 TO 32 MPG. THE ELECTRIC BATTERY IS NOT CHARGING AS IT USED TO INITIALLY AND THERE IS HARDLY ANY ASSIST WHEN ACCELERATING. MY WIFE AND I HAVE ALMOST GOTTEN INTO REALLY BAD ACCIDENTS WHEN TRYING TO MERGE ON THE FREEWAY. WITHOUT ANY ASSISTANCE FROM THE ELECTRIC BATTERY, THE CAR HAS LITERALLY NO ACCELERATION. ON A FEW OCCASIONS WE WERE ALMOST RUN OVER BY SEMI'S BECAUSE WE COULDN'T MERGE WITH THE TRAFFIC FAST ENOUGH. I'VE REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS IN BAY AREA CA BUT THEY INSISTED THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE HYBRID BATTERIES. THEY STATE THAT IF THERE IS A PROBLEM THEN A WARNING LIGHT SHOULD COME UP ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING THE PROBLEM. I DON'T KNOW WHY THE LIGHT IS NOT COMING ON BUT I PROVED TO MULTIPLE DEALERS THAT THE BATTERY CHARGE DOES NOT HOLD. THEY SAW HOW THE CAR WAS BEHAVING BUT SAID THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING TILL THE VEHICLE'S ONBOARD COMPUTER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE IMA SYSTEM. I THEN CONTACTED HONDA USA AND REPORTED THE ISSUE. THEY WERE POLITE BUT DECLINED ANY HELP. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE CAR HAS AN ONBOARD COMPUTER THAT DISPLAYS AN ERROR IF THERE IS AN ISSUE. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE FATAL ACCIDENTS ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE ANY POWER AND IT IS NOT FIT TO BE DRIVEN ON THE HIGHWAY BUT HONDA USA SAID THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY SUCH ISSUE. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND EVEN TRIED TO CORRECT IT VIA THE LATEST SOFTWARE UPDATE BUT IT DIDN'T WORK AND THEY'RE NOT WILLING TO REPLACE THE BATTERY. *TR
WHEN I LOADED MY STUFF INTO THE TRUNK, THE TRUNK LID DIDN'T STAY AND FELL DOWN AND HIT MY UPPER ARM. THE ACCIDENT CAUSED BRUISE ON MY ARM. I'VE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. *TR
PAINT IS PEELING ON CAR BIG AREAS ON ROOF AND CAR IS ONLY 5 YRS OLD, SUNVISOR BROKE INTO PIECES AND THEY WOULDN'T REPLACE IT EVEN THOUGH IT HAD A RECALL ON IT, AND ENGINE MOUNT BROKE ALSO. *TR
IN NOVEMBER 2009, I PURCHASED A USED 2007 HONDA CIVIC FROM A USED DEALERSHIP IN ALPHARETTA, GA. IT WAS PURCHASED AS IS SO I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO VOYLES HONDA IN MARIETTA, GA FOR A TOTAL CHECK-UP. THE CAR WAS SERVICED AND GIVEN THE GREEN LIGHT. IT HAD 74,960 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. ON MARCH 8, 2010, ON MY WAY BACK HOME FROM JACKSONVILLE, FL THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE QUICKLY. I WAS ON I95 NORTHBOUND WITH MY SON, AND IT WAS A VERY SCARY FEW MOMENTS FOR US. WE MANAGED TO PARK THE CAR ON THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE CAR WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. WHEN WE LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, THERE WAS NO SMOKE BUT THERE WAS A FUNNY SMELL. MY SON TOOK THE DIPSTICK OUT OF THE ENGINE AND IT WAS MELTED! WE HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO YULEE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THE ENGINE WAS GONE. AFTER STAYING IN A LOCAL HOTEL FOR THE NIGHT, MY HUSBAND PICKED US UP ON MARCH 9. WHEN I GOT HOME I MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO GRAINGER HONDA IN SAVANNAH. GRAINGER GETS THE CAR IN AND AFTER A $92.00 CHARGE FOR LOOKING AT IT, TELLS ME THAT THE ENGINE IS GONE AND THEY CAN GET ME A GREAT DEAL FOR $4,600.00 (A USED ENGINE WITH 19,000 MILES ON IT). WELL IN THE MEAN TIME, MY SON HAD BEEN RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM ON LINE AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY 2006-2007 HONDA CIVIC OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HE FOUND HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 08-044 WHICH STATES THERE IS A MECHANICAL DEFECT IN SOME OF THESE ENGINES. THE BULLETIN ALSO STATES THAT CUSTOMERS THAT ARE OUT OF WARRANTY WHEN THIS HAPPENS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR GOODWILL CONSIDERATION. I EXPLAINED SEVERAL EMPLOYEES OF GRAINGER HONDA BUT THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO 'TAKE DOWN' THE ENGINE AT A TUNE OF ABOUT $500-$600. HE SAID THEY MIGHT BE WILLING TO PICK UP 25% OF THE COST. I TOLD HIM ABSOLUTELY NOT. I TOLD HIM THIS WAS A DEFECT THAT HONDA WAS VERY MUCH AWARE OF AND THAT HONDA SHOULD PAY FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR. I ALSO CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD DO NOTHING. *TR
MY HONDA CIVIC 2007 GOT OVERHEATED AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 7 MINUTES FROM HOME ON MY WAY TO WORK EARLY MORNING. NEVER SEEN ANY VISIBLE LEAKS ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR IS ALWAYS UP TO DATE AND MOST OF THE TIME IS DONE BY THE DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM. AFTER I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED, THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE CAR HAS POROUS LEAK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK CAUSED BY A DEFECT WHEN THE CASTING OF THE ENGINE TOOK PLACE AT HONDA'S MANUFACTURING PLANT. THIS POROUS LEAK CAUSED THE ENGINE BLOCK TO CRACK AND LOSE COOLANT AND EVENTUALLY OVERHEAT THE CAR. THE DEALER RECOMMENDED ME TO REPLACE THE WHOLE ENGINE. THE DEALER EVEN FAXED ME THE SERVICE BULLETIN FROM HONDA REGARDING THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 90,000 MILES ON IT. SINCE THE CAR HAS PASSED THE WARRANTY PERIOD OF 60,000 MILES OR 3 YEARS WHICHEVER COMES FIRST, THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR AND ADVISED ME TO CALL AMERICAN HONDA. AFTER CALLING AMERICAN HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AND TELLING THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM, THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AND INSISTED THAT IT WAS NOT CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE ENGINE INSTEAD IT WAS TOTALLY MY FAULT FOR LETTING THE CAR OVERHEATED. I TRIED TO CALL HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THREE TIMES WITH NO RESULTS WHATSOEVER. THEY KEPT SAYING THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO DUE TO HIGH MILEAGE THAT THE CAR HAS. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AND COOLANT WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. *KB THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A CASTING DEFECT IN THE ENGINE BLOCK AND A TSB HAD BEEN ISSUED. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM CAUSED IRREGULAR WEAR AND TEAR ON THE TIRES. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE UPPER ARMS ON THE REAR BUT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE REPAIR COST. THERE ARE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES FOR HIS VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE NO WARRANTIES RELATED TO THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. UPDATED 05/03/11*LJ THE REAR CONTROL ARMS WERE REPACED. I HAVE PURCHASED THE BRAND NEW MARCH 2007 HONDA CIVIC ON MAY 2007. THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR IS BROKEN AND DOES NOT REMAIN IN UP POSITION NOR REMAIN ON THE SIDE. THIS IS A DRIVING HAZARD AS IT BLOCKS AND OBSTRUCTS THE DRIVER'S VIEW, AND WILL HIT THE DRIVER WITH VEHICLE MOVEMENT. IT CAUSES A HUGE ISSUE WITH VISIBILITY ON THE ROAD. NOT SO MUCH DURING THE DAY BUT VERY MUCH AT NIGHT TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING TO DRIVE WITH IT AT NIGHT. IT IS UNDER WARRANTY FOR THREE YEARS BUT CAR DRIVEN MORE THEN 30,000 MILES. WHEN I GO TO SCHAUMBURG HONDA THEY SAID IT IS NEVER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS WEAR & TEAR. I ALSO HAVE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT CARE TO VERIFY WARRANTY AND QUOTED ME PARTS $65.00 AND INSTALLATION CHARGE $36.00. THIS IS GIVEN IN WRITING BY DEALER ON 02/16/2010. *TR
SHORTLY AFTER THE VEHICLE WARRANTY EXPIRED, WE BEGAN TO NOTICE A LOUD HUMMING SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR WHEELS WHICH STEADILY GOT WORSE. ALSO, WE EXPERIENCED EXTREME LACK OF CONTROL OVER THE CAR DURING ICY CONDITIONS. WE DISCOVERED THAT THE HUMMING SOUND WAS COMING FROM REAR TIRES THAT WERE SEVERELY CUPPED. IT WAS NECESSARY TO PURCHASE NEW BACK TIRES, GET THE FRONT AND BACK ALIGNED, AND PURCHASE AND HAVE INSTALLED, A STABILIZER BAR. WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A COMMON DEFECT IN THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF CAR. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL ON 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID PUSHES UP WHILE STEPPING ON BREAK, AND CAR IS STOPPED, MAKING THE CAR LURCH FORWARD. *TR
IT COULD BE SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I COULD BE DEAD, TOO. BUT HONDA DOESN'T GIVE ME A GOOD RESPONSE FOR THIS CASE. I PURCHASED THIS CAR 35 MONTHS AGO, AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 68,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD THIS CAR SERVICED SINCE PURCHASE BY HONDA OF DECATUR AS RECOMMENDED BY THE OWNER'S MANUAL. I HAD THE CAR SERVICED THE FIRST WEEK OF FEBRUARY WITH A TYPE B SERVICE. THE DEALER PERSONNEL DIDN'T MENTION ANY MAINTENANCE ISSUES WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN AFTER THIS SERVICE. ON FEBRUARY 9, 2010 I NOTICE AN UNUSUAL SWEET SMELL AS I DROVE MY CAR TO THE AIRPORT. BECAUSE I WAS TRAVELING ON BUSINESS, I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR AND PICK IT UP ON FEBRUARY 11TH. SHORTLY AFTER RETURNING ON FEBRUARY 11, 2010 THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOWED THE ENGINE WAS OVERHEATING AND SOME SMOKE CAME OUT. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALER IN HUNTSVILLE, AL WHICH WAS THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. AFTER THE CAR WAS EXAMINED I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER'S SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THERE IS A CRACK IN ENGINE BLOCK. AT THIS TIME THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY A CAUSE FOR THIS CRACK. AS I EXPLAINED ABOVE THE CAR WAS RECENTLY SERVICED AND THE ANTI-FREEZE SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED FREEZE DAMAGE. THE DEALER HAS ESTIMATED THE REPAIR WILL COST $3,500-$3,700 AND BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE THEY INDICATE THAT HONDA OF HUNTSVILLE WILL NOT ABLE TO SUBMIT A WARRANTY CLAIM ON MY BEHALF. *TR
MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX. FIRST STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AT AROUND 50,000 MILES WHEN THE CAR WAS HESITANT TO ACCELERATE, AND THE CAR OVERHEATED ONCE. I TOOK INTO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, VERY INFORMAL, THEY GAVE ME NO PAPERWORK OR PROOF THAT THEY LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE, THEY CLAIMED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE AND THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN PLACE UNDER UNUSUALLY HARSH CONDITIONS OR THE EXTREME OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE OF 92 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE OVERHEATING. THE HONDA CERTIFIED MECHANIC DID NOT OBSERVED THE VEHICLE TO BE OVERHEATING, AND COULD NOT REPLICATE ANY ISSUES ON THE VEHICLE. THINKING THAT THEY MADE A FULL DIAGNOSIS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE CAR STARTED TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING WAS BURNING AND THE CAR WAS VERY HESITANT TO MOVE, I PLACED THE VEHICLE ON PARK AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, SMOKE WAS COMING OUT AND I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND WHAT LOOKED LIKE ANTIFREEZE WAS DRIPPING UNDER THE CAR. I IMMEDIATELY HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED TO MAKE ANOTHER DIAGNOSIS, THIS TIME THEY CAME BACK AND SAID THAT MY VEHICLE HAD A CRACK ON THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT SINCE THE CAR IS OVER THE DESIGNATED WARRANTY MILES TO BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET, ABOUT 5,000 DOLLARS. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKING IS A COMMON ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE AND THAT IT COULD BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT, BUT THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THE MANUFACTURER IS NOT COVERING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE FACT THAT ITS OVER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. I PROTESTED CLAIMING THAT I TOOK IN INTO THE HONDA SERVICE SHOP A FEW MONTH EARLIER, HAD THEY EXAMINED THE VEHICLE PROPERLY THEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DETECTED UNDER WARRANTY, EITHER WAY THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK AT 50,000 MILES. CAR IS NOW SITTING IN MY GARAGE, SINCE I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND THE CAR CAN'T BE DRIVEN. *TR

I PURCHASED CAR FROM HONDA DEALERSHIP IN MAY 2008; A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING PROBLEM WITH REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS WAS ISSUED IN FEBRUARY 2008. THEREFORE, THE DEALERSHIP KNEW OF THE PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT FIX IT OR INFORM ME PRIOR TO PURCHASING VEHICLE. AROUND FEBRUARY 2010, I STARTED EXPERIENCING SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH THE HANDLING OF MY CAR. IT VIBRATED AND SHOOK AGGRESSIVELY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE WHATSOVER ON WET ROADS. IT FELT LIKE ONLY TWO WHEELS WERE ON THE GROUND AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. 2007 HONDA CIVIC EX SEDAN: UPON A TRIP (60 MILES) HOME FROM THE CLEVELAND AIRPORT 1-26-10, I SMELLED COOLANT BURNING AND A SUDDEN CLOUD OF STEAM FROM UNDER THE HOOD. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THIS INCIDENT, THE DETERMINED CAUSE WAS THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED ALLOWING COOLANT TO BE SPRAYED ONTO THE MANIFOLD CAUSING THE BURNING SMELL AND CLOUDS OF STEAM. WHILE HONDA CANNOT PROVIDE A REASONING BEHIND THIS FAILURE, IT APPEARS OR WOULD SEEM TO BE A CASTING ISSUE FOR THE 2006-07 MODELS. THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 35K MILES AT THE TIME OF FAILURE AND HONDA DECLINED ALL EFFORTS TO ASSIST WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM HEARING AND SEEING NUMEROUS ISSUES EXACTLY IDENTICAL TO MINE WELL WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR OTHERS AND HONDA IS CLAIMING THERE IS "NO" PROBLEM WITH THESE ENGINES. HAPPPENED ON 1/5/2010 AND AGAIN ON 3/19/2010 TOOK CAR TO DEALER AGAIN THEY SAID THAT THEY UNPLUGGED THE MODULES AND HOPE THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD SWAY BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS WERE DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RESPONSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW HONDA CIVIC 2007 AND WITHIN 2 YEARS (~25K-26K MILES) THE REAR TIRES STARTED VIBRATING LOUDLY. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SERVICING CENTER I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR CONTROL ARMS WHICH CAN CAUSE UNEVEN OR PREMATURE TIRE WEAR IN ALL 2006-2007 CIVICS, EXCEPT FOR THE SI. WHILE THE PROBLEM DEVELOPED OVER A FEW MONTHS I WAS IN WARRANTY BUT WHEN IT WAS DIAGNOSED AND I WENT IN FOR A CLAIM HONDA SAID I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY SO THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PARTS FOR FREE BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR LABOR AND WOULD GET NO REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE TOTALLY CHOPPED TIRES. THIS IS A VERY WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEM (ONLINE HONDA/CIVIC FORUMS ARE FULL OF COMPLAINTS) WHICH I BELIEVE POSES A GRAVE ROAD SAFETY PROBLEM AND DANGER TO THE LIVES OF OWNERS WHO COULD GET INTO ACCIDENTS DUE TO BAD TIRES, IF NOT DIAGNOSED ON TIME. HONDA HAS BEEN SHUNNING ITS RESPONSIBILITY BY NOT SENDING OUT A RECALL AND ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM WITH DUE DILIGENCE. I URGE YOU TO TAKE THIS MATTER UP WITH HONDA AND ENSURE THAT THE THOUSANDS OF AFFECTED CIVIC OWNERS GET COMPLETE PAID REPAIRS AND ASSURANCE FROM HONDA. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT HAD THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE SENSOR AND WOULD COST 690 TO FIX. SEEMS TO ME HONDAS HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH AIRBAGS FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS. MY CAR ISN'T EVEN 3 YEARS OLD. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT AIRBAGS BE CONSIDERED AS REAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT ON A VEHICLE SINCE IT'S NOT OPTIONAL. IF SEAT BELTS ARE COVERED FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR, THEN WHY NOT AIRBAGS? I GOT A NEW HONDA CIVIC EX 2007 SEDAN AND PERFORMING ALL THE REGULAR NEEDED MAINTENANCE AND WHEEL ROTATION. AFTER DRIVING 20,000 MILES, I FELT SHAKING AND VIBRATION OF THE CAR WITH LOTS OF NOISE COMING OUT OF THE CAR. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO HONDA DEALER; THE TECHNICIAN CHECKED AND INFORMED ME THAT, THE WHEEL CUPS ARE UNEVENLY WORN DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE WHEEL CONTROL ARM AND IMPROPER WHEEL ALIGNMENT. DEALER SAID HE FIXED THE WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE WHEEL CONTROL BUT MENTIONED THAT THE NOISE WILL CONTINUE TILL THE WHEELS WEAR EVENLY (APPROXIMATELY 2MONTHS). I DROVE AGAIN FOR FOUR MONTHS WITH THAT NOISE AND VIBRATIONS, I DIDN'T SEE ANY CHANGE AND IN FACT THE NOISE HAS BEEN INCREASED. I BROUGHT THE CAR AGAIN TO DEALER AND TECHNICIAN VERIFIED AND SAID, I NEED TO REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES IN ORDER TO GET RIDE OF THAT ISSUE. I FILED A COMPLIANT TO HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE CLAIMING THAT, THE WHEELS HAS BEEN PREMATURE WEAR OF TIRES DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE WHEEL CONTROL ARM FROM THE MANUFACTURE. THEY TOOK WEEK TIME AND INFORMED ME THAT, THE TIRES WERE NOT COVERED MY HONDA WARRANTY AND THEY COULD NOT HELP ON THIS. I ARGUED WITH THE MANAGER WHO HANDLED THE CASE, THE LIFE OF THE TIRES WAS REDUCED TO HALF BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE PART FROM THE CAR,..NO USE.. *TR
