2007 HONDA CIVIC EX SUN VISOR BROKEN WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE CEILING OF THE CAR. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I HAVE HAD BOTH SUN VISORS REPLACED A TOTAL OF 4 TIMES. AFTER IT BREAKS, I HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE IT CAUSES A HUGE ISSUE WITH VISIBILITY ON THE ROAD. NOT SO MUCH DURING THE DAY BUT VERY MUCH AT NIGHT TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS EXTREMELY ANNOYING TO DRIVE WITH IT AT NIGHT. *TR
AFTER 14,000 MILES AUTOMOBILE FAILED STATE INSPECTION DUE TO TIRE WEAR. WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR UPPER ARMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD COVER THE REPLACEMENT ARMS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE TIRES. EVEN THOUGH THE ABNORMAL WEAR WAS DO TO THE REAR UPPER ARMS. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX. HOT DAY, OPENED THE CAR DOOR AND SAT DOWN AND NOTICED MY SUN VISOR FLAPPED DOWN AND BUSTED. LOOKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND VIEW HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS AND THE PICTURES OF WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CASE. BUERKLE HONDA IN MINNESOTA WANTS TO CHARGE ME 125.00 TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT WAS NOT MY FAULT AND IS OBVIOUSLY A COMMON PROBLEM THAT THEY ARE IGNORING. *TR
LOUD VIBRATION AND NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE CONTROL ARMS HAD BEEN RECALLED AND THAT MY TIRES WERE NOW "CUPPED". THE DEALER REPLACED THE CONTROL ARMS BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES WHICH HAD BEEN DAMAGED. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2007 HONDA CIVIC FROM AUTOFAIR HONDA OF MANCHESTER NH AND HAVE HAD ALL OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATION SERVICES DONE WITH THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HAVE OVER 39,000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE AUTOFAIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT NEVER ONCE INFORMED ME ABOUT A HONDA BULLETIN REGARDING THE CIVIC'S REAR SUSPENSION CAUSING REAR TIRES TO GO BALD, WHICH MINE DID. DURING MY LAST TIRE ROTATION ON APRIL 14, THEY DID NOT NOTIFY ME THAT MY TREAD WAS GOING BARE. ON JULY 4, I DISCOVERED THAT MY BACK TIRES WERE BARE AFTER REALIZING THAT THEY WERE MAKING CONSIDERABLE NOISE WHILE RIDING ON THE HIGHWAY. I PURCHASED NEW TIRES THE FOLLOWING MONDAY FROM A LOCAL TIRE STORE. DURING MY ONLINE SEARCH FOR NEW TIRES I FOUND OUT THAT OTHER CIVIC CAR OWNERS HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS DUE TO A REAR SUSPENSION FAULT WITH HONDA CIVICS. I THEN MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH AUTOFAIR TO HAVE THEM CHECK THIS ISSUE ON JULY 13. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THEN INFORMED ME THAT THEIR WAS AN ISSUE AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. BECAUSE MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, I HAD TO PAY AUTOFAIR TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THEY PUT IN THE FOLLOWING PART: 1 04523-SNA-A01 SET, UPPER ARM RR. I'M UPSET THAT THEY DID NOT INFORM ME ABOUT THIS ISSUE SOONER. WE'VE HAD A VERY WET JUNE AND MY TIRES WERE NOT SAFE FOR DRIVING IN SUCH CONDITIONS. OTHER PEOPLE AT THE AUTOFAIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAITING ROOM HAVE SAID THEY'VE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.*TR

2007 HONDA CIVIC SI SEDAN, THE REAR SUSPENSION IS DEFECTIVE CAUSING PREMATURE TIRE WEAR, IN LESS THAN 30,000 MILES I HAD GONE THROUGH TWO SETS OF TIRES, AND TWO REAR BEARINGS. REAR BEARINGS WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I PAID FOR THE TIRES. THE DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE THE REAR CONTROL ARMS, WHICH MEANS THAT THE BRAND NEW TIRES WILL ALSO WEAR PREMATURELY, AND POSSIBLY ANOTHER SET OF REAR BEARINGS... *TR
BOTH OF MY REAR WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED ON MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC. *TR
I OWN A HONDA CIVIC 4 DR AUTO TRANSMISSION, AND HAVE ISSUES WITH POOR QUALITY SUN VISORS. THE SUN VISORS BREAK APART EVERY SUMMER I HAVE OWNED VEHICLE FOR THREE YEARS AND CHANGED THE SUN VISOR ATLEAST THRICE TILL NOW FOR NO COST. BUT NOW I BEING CHARGED SINCE WARRANTY IS OVER. WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR KNOWN QUALITY ISSUE? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH UPHILL, THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS WITH NO ILLUMINATION OF THE BATTERY WARNING SYMBOL. THE FAILURE USUALLY OCCURRED WHEN DRIVING UPHILL AND HAD BEEN EXPERIENCED AT LEAST TEN TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED SHE RECEIVED A SOFTWARE UPDATE NOTIFICATION LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER BUT DID NOT HAVE THE UPDATES PERFORMED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE UPDATE COULD HURT THE FUEL MILEAGE SIGNIFICANTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. UPDATED 05/04/11
DRIVERS SIDE VISOR FAILS TO RETURN TO "UP" POSITION HANGS DOWN. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC LX BECAME COMPLETELY DISABLED WHILE DRIVING. ON THE ROAD, THE CAR STOPPED WITHOUT PRIOR ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER SERVICEMAN REPORTS A BOLT WAS SEVERED POSSIBLY FACTORY ERROR. DAMAGES INCURRED WERE BROKEN TIMING CHAIN, ROCKER ARM BOLT BROKEN, BROKEN HEAD AND MAJOR LEAKAGE. SERVICEMAN REPORTS ALL PARTS REPLACED, HOWEVER VEHICLE NO LONGER WORKS AT FULL CAPACITY. ENGINE/TRANSMISSION MAKES GRINDING NOISE. ADDITIONAL NOISES FROM REAR SUSPENSION ALSO. VEHICLE RETURNED FOR SERVICE 2X'S SINCE INCIDENT WITHOUT SUCCESS. CURRENT PROBLEMS, (NOISE AND SLUGGISHNESS) OCCUR AFTER VEHICLE IS DRIVEN FOR MORE THAN 1 HOUR. CUSTOMER REQUESTED OLD PARTS AT TIME OF SERVICE, BUT WERE NOT GIVEN. SERVICEMAN STATED PARTS WERE RETURNED TO THE FACTORY FOR INSPECTION. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC SI SUN VISOR SEPARATION AND HANGS IN THE FIELD OF VISION. THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OR DESIGN OF THE SUN VISORS OF HONDA CIVICS. THE UNIT BREAKS APART WITHOUT WARNING AND WILL NO LOGER BE ABLE TO RETRACT OUT OF THE DRIVERS FIELD OF VISION. I REPAIRED THE DRIVER'S SIDE UNDER WARRANTY, AND NOW THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS BECOME A PROBLEM, AND HANGS STRAIGHT DOWN WITH NO ABILITY TO ADJUST THE POSITION. I HAVE REVIEWED SEVERAL SITES ON THE INTERNET TO CONCLUDE THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ERROR, BUT A CONTINUING DEFECT. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID ON APRIL 16,2009 W/ 21K MILES. THE PRE PURCHASE INSPECTION BY AN INDEPENDENT "HONDA SPECIALIST" WAS DONE IN MY PRESENCE AND NO PROBLEMS WERE NOTED. MY LONG TIME SPECIALIST MECHANIC EVEN STATED "THAT IS THE FIRST PREPURCHASE I'VE EVER DONE WHERE I COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG EVEN THE TIRES MATCH AND HAVE WORN EVENLY. TWO MONTHS TO THE DAY AND 3K MILES LATER (24,365) I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AND TIRES ROTATED I WAS TOLD THREE TIRES WERE SHOWING WEAR ON THE INSIDE. I DID NOT BELIEVE THE DEALER AND DROVE OFF ON A SAT. KNOWING THEY WERE FINE 3K MILES AGO. I CHECKED THE TIRES CLOSELY ON MONDAY (AFTER DRIVING 40 MILES TO WORK) AND FOUND THEM TO BE SHOWING THREAD ON 3 TIRES. FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWED A TSB 008-001(REAR CONTROL ARMS OUT OF SPEC) THAT ADDRESSES THIS PROBLEM ALTHOUGH IT WAS NEVER MENTIONED TO ME BY THE DEALER. I COULD HAVE EASILY KILLED MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM DUE TO HOW FAST THE TIRES CAN WEAR FROM SAFE TO VERY DANGEROUS. 90% OF THE TIRE TREAD LOOKED VERY GOOD BUT THE INSIDE 10 % WHICH CANNOT BE SEEN WITHOUT GETTING ON YOUR HAND AND KNEES WAS EXTREMELY WORN. *TR
RIGHT REAR TIRE WEARS INCORRECTLY, CUPPING OR SCALLOPING OCCURS, APPEARS TO BE TO MUCH NEGATIVE CAMBER. THE CUPPING CREATES "WOBBLING" OR ROAD NOISE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS REAR ALIGNMENT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED AND HAD CAUSE THE TIRES TO FAIL. THE DEALER HAS MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AND ROTATED WHICH INCLUDED AN ALIGNMENT; HOWEVER, THE TIRES HAVE CONTINUED TO WEAR OUT PREMATURELY. THE HONDA MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
UNEVEN TIRE WEAR ON A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. *TR
2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID HAS ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES AND POWER. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES WERE NOT BRAKING PROPERLY. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE BRAKES INSPECTED, BUT AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKES AND ROAD TESTING, THEY STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING NORMAL. THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO HAVE BRAKING ISSUES, AND AFTER ALMOST HAVING A COLLISION DUE TO DECREASED BRAKING ABILITY, SHE AGAIN CONTACTED THE DEALER. THEY TESTED THE BRAKES AGAIN, AND FOUND NO PROBLEM. THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO FAIL ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. THE DEALER EVALUATED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED A REPORT FROM HONDA STATED THE IMA WILL STOP CHARGING AND STOP WITH ASSISTED BRAKING IF TEMPERATURES ARE TOO HIGH AND THAT IT IS NORMAL FOR THE CUSTOMER TO FEEL A DIFFERENCE IN BRAKING WITHOUT REGENERATION. HONDA ADVISED THAT THE CONSUMER DRIVE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN AND WHEN SHE PARKED THE VEHICLE TO LEAVE THEM DOWN AS WELL TO HELP COOL OFF THE HYBRID BATTERIES WHICH WERE LOCATED BEHIND THE SEAT. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE CONSUMER BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO PERFORM A COMPUTER UPGRADE ON HER VEHICLE. THE REPORT ALSO STATED UPDATED IMA CONTROL UNIT AND BATTERY SOFTWARE. THE CONSUMER DROVE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS AND NOTED SOME IMPROVEMENT WITH THE BRAKING ISSUE, BUT NOW THE IMA BATTERIES WILL NOT STAY CHARGED, AND IF THE BATTERY LEVEL GOES BELOW 4 BARS, WHICH IS 1/2 OF FULL BARS OR A COMPLETELY CHARGED BATTERY, THE VEHICLE'S POWER IS GREATLY DECREASED TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO TRAVEL AT SPEEDS OF 15-20 MPH FOR 15 SECONDS AFTER BEING STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. *JB
SUN VISORS SPLIT IN HALF. ONCE THE VISORS ARE SPLIT, THEY WILL NOT HOLD A "TUCKED UP" POSITION, BUT RATHER WILL HANG DOWN AND OBSTRUCT THE DRIVER'S VISION. THE PROBLEM IS CHRONIC AND THERE IS NOW A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT HAS FORCED THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE SUN VISORS. HOWEVER, THE BROKEN VISORS ARE BEING REPLACED BY ANOTHER VISOR WITH THE SAME DESIGN DEFECT. AFTER A BRIEF PERIOD OF USE, THE NEW SUN VISOR ALSO FAILS. THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO CREATE A NEW DESIGN WITHOUT THE FLAW AND REPLACE THE OLD DESIGN WITH THE NEW DESIGN AT THE MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC THAT I BOUGHT NEW. I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED REGULARLY, AND EACH TIME I HAVE TOLD THE DEALER THAT I HEAR A LOUD NOISE IN THE REAR. THEY HAVE REPEATEDLY TOLD ME THAT THE NOISE IS NORMAL FOR MY MODEL AND TIRES. THE NOISE BECAME SO BAD THAT I INSISTED THEY DO SOMETHING. THEY NOW SAY THAT THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS MUST BE REPLACED AND THAT THE CAR MUST BE ALIGNED AND THAT MY TIRES ARE RUINED. THE DAMAGE TO THE TIRES HAS CAUSED A SERIOUS SAFETY CONDITION. THEY REPLACED THE REAR CONTROL ARMS, BUT I STILL HAVE THE BAD TIRES. THE CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THIS IS A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS DEFECT. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
IN JANUARY 2009 I NOTICED A SHAKING/VIBRATING COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC LX. THE PROBLEM WORSENED UNTIL I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER IN MAY. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE CAR AND INFORMED MY THAT MY BRAKES AND REAR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AT 30,000, THE REAR TIRES WERE PRACTICALLY BALD. THE DEALER MADE NO MENTION WHATSOEVER OF THE REAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED ACCORDING TO SERVICE BULLETIN 8-001. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD BRING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER BECAUSE MY SHOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I FELT VERY DECEIVED BY THE DEALER; THEY DID NOT WANT TO LIVE UP TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITY UNDER THE WARRANTY. *TR
TIRE BLEW OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. AFTER INSPECTING THE TIRE WHEN RETURNING HOME TO DETERMINE ROOT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE THE VALVE STEM WAS FOUND TO BE CRACKED ALL THE WAY THROUGH ONLY ATTACHED BY A SMALL AMOUNT OF RUBBER. INSPECTED OTHER VALVE STEMS AND ALL WERE FOUND TO BE CRACKED ALMOST ALL THE WAY THROUGH. TIRES WERE RECENTLY REPLACED IN THE SUMMER OF 2008. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND SLOWED DOWN. OCCASIONALLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN AND RESTART ITSELF BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND SHUT OFF. THE BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THEY REPLACED THE REGULAR BATTERY. THE SECOND TIME THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 34,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. IN APRIL OF 2009, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK AND VIBRATED DRASTICALLY WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED FOR THE ISSUE, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HONDA HAS NOT BEEN HELPFUL WITH GETTING THIS ISSUE RESOLVED. HE WOULD LIKE THE FAILURE TO BE INVESTIGATED FOR A MANFACTURER DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,339.
DIFFICULTY SHIFTING TO 3RD GEAR ON MY 07 CIVIC SI. SOME GRINDING OCCURS WHEN SHIFTING AT TIMES, OTHER TIMES IT POPS OUT OF GEAR. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HONDA DEALERSHIP BUT NOTHING WAS DONE SINCE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE WHAT I DESCRIBED THE CAR WAS DOING. WHETHER HONDA DEALERSHIP CAN REPLICATE IT OR NOT, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE PARTICULARLY WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY WERE THE TRAFFIC IS HEAVY MOST OF THE TIME. *TR
UNEVEN TIRE WEAR AT 16,500 DUE TO REAR CONTROL ARM DESIGN FLAW. HONDA ISSUED TSB 08-001. THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT WILL NOT ADMIT TO IT UNLESS PRESSED. I DID EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, CONFRONTED THEM AND FINALLY THEY "REPAIRED" REAR CONTROL ARM???? BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE MY WORN TIRES OR GIVE ME A TIRE ALIGNMENT. I REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES AT MY EXPENSE AND NOW 4,000 MILES LATER , I HEAR EXCESSIVE ROAD NOISE AND WONDER IF THE PROBLEM WAS EVER FIXED. THIS IS A SAFETY AND ROAD HAZARD. HONDA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED CORRECTLY AND COMPLETELY WITHOUT THE CUSTOMER BEING CHARGED OR HARASSED. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID. I HAVE HAD ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE COMPLETED AT AN AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER. I HAVE HAD A CONTINUAL PROBLEM WITH WHEEL ALIGNMENT/TIRE WEAR ISSUES. THE FIRST SET OF TIRES (DUNLOPS) LASTED JUST A LITTLE OVER 30,000 MILES DESPITE REGULAR ROTATION. WHEN REPLACED, LARGE PATCHES OF CORD WERE VISIBLE. THE NEXT SET (MICHELINS) HAS NEARLY 20,000 MILES ON THEM, AND ARE ALSO SHOWING UNEVEN TIRE WEAR DESPITE REGULAR TIRE ROTATIONS. THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS IN THE REAR WERE REPLACED 10,000 MILES AGO AND THE ALIGNMENT WAS CHECKED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS AT THAT TIME. I DRIVE VERY CONSERVATIVELY, WITH NEARLY 95% OF MY DRIVING FREEWAY DRIVING AT OR BELOW POSTED SPEED LIMITS. I BELIEVE LIKE OTHERS THAT THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW. IT CAN BE SERIOUS IF TIRES ARE NOT CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS SHE HAD ALL FOUR TIRES ROTATED. AFTER THE TIRES WERE ROTATED SHE HAD TO HAVE A NEW SET OF TIRES INSTALLED. SHE NOTICES A PECULIAR NOISE COMING FROM THE WHEEL BEARINGS. SHE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.

I STARTED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE IMA (INTEGRATED MOTOR ASSIST, HYBRID BATTERIES) LAST SUMMER (2008) AND CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES TO DATE (MAY 2009). THE IMA BATTERY THAT POWERS THE ASSIST MOTOR HAS BEEN UNPREDICTABLE AND HAS HAD DEGRADED PERFORMANCE FOR THE PAST YEAR CAUSING THE CAR TO BE UNDERPOWERED AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY. THE IMA SYSTEM ROUTINELY FULLY DISCHARGES (ESPECIALLY DURING THE HOT SUMMER MONTHS IN ARIZONA) AND LEAVES THE CAR ONLY TO RUN ON THE UNDERPOWERED 1.3 L GAS ENGINE. THE CAR IS VERY SLUGGISH, CAUSING SAFETY ISSUES WHEN ACCELERATION IS NEEDED IN CITY OR INTERSTATE DRIVING. MY WIFE DRIVES 3 KIDS TO SCHOOL (35 MILES ON WAY) ON A DAILY BASIS AND IS CONCERNED FOR THE KIDS AND HER SAFETY ON THE HIGHWAY. THE BATTERIES ALSO ARE LOCATED UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT. DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE HEAT THE REAR PASSENGERS (MY KIDS) ARE ALWAYS COMPLAINING THAT THE SEAT IS WARM AND THAT IS EXCESSIVELY HOT IN THE BACK SEAT SINCE THE PROBLEM FIRST WAS OBSERVED IN LAST SUMMER 2008, I HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL DIFFERENT HONDA DEALERSHIPS. THEY ALL STATE THAT THIS IS 'NORMAL' OPERATION AND UNLESS THE SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. THE SERVICE LIGHT THEY ARE REFERRING TO IS THE P1433 BATTERY DEGRADED CODE THAT STATES TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES. IT SEEMS ODD THAT THEY WAIT UNTIL THE BATTERIES ARE TOTALLY FAILED AND DEPLETED BEFORE THEY WILL CHANGE THEM. I NOTICED THAT HONDA DOES HAVE A TSB OUT COVERING EXCESSIVE HEAT AND THAT IT CAN SEVERELY DAMAGE THE IMA BATTERIES. THIS STATES THAT IF THE TEMPERATURE IS ABOVE 150 DEGREES F THAT THE BATTERIES CAN BE DAMAGED OR FAIL. I KNOW THAT HEAT SOAKING THE CAR FOR 8-10 HOURS IN THE FULL SUN AT 110+ DEGREES (SHADE TEMP) CAN EASILY HEAT THE IMA BATTERIES TO VERY CLOSE TO 150 DEGREES. I AM HIGHLY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY WIFE AND KIDS THAT SHE DRIVES AND OTHERS THAT MAY BE EFFECTED. *TR
MY 2007 HIT 80,000 MILES AND I JUST HAD TO GET MY THIRD SET OF REAR TIRES (AFTER THE ORIGINALS) BECAUSE OF EXTREMELY FAST WEAR IN A CUPPING PATTERN. IT HAS GOTTEN SO BAD THAT BETWEEN ONE OIL CHANGE TO THE NEXT MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TOLD ME I NEEDED TO REPLACE TWO YEAR-OLD TIRES IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE THEY WERE IN DANGER OF THE TREAD SEPARATING FROM THE BODY OF THE TIRE AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE ABNORMAL TIRE WEAR STARTED AT ABOUT 39,000 MILES WHEN THE FIRST SET OF TIRES WORE OUT. I HAD THOUGHT I JUST HAD SOME BAD TIRES FOR THE FIRST AND SECOND REPLACEMENT SETS, BUT AFTER I BOUGHT A THIRD SET OF REAR TIRES - AND MY SECOND SET OF MICHELIN TIRES - I FIGURED THERE MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE TO THIS AND SO CHECKED WITH THE DEALER. THE HONDA DEALER ACKNOWLEDGES THIS IS APPARENTLY A "COMMON" PROBLEM WITH THE 2006-07 CIVICS AND THE (SORT OF) FIX IS TO REPLACE THE CONTROL ARMS IN THE REAR SUSPENSION AND DO A 4-WHEEL ALIGNMENT. THEY DON'T SEE IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE AND APPARENTLY HONDA WILL NOT DO THE REPLACEMENT AT NO CHARGE. *TR
WHEN I TOOK MY '07 CIVIC HYBRID TO MY DEALER IN MAY FOR AN OIL CHANGE, THEY TOLD ME ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WORN OUT TREADS. THE CAR ONLY HAD 18500 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME, SO I WAS FLABBERGASTED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SUGGESTED I WAS DRIVING THE CAR TOO AGGRESSIVELY. WHILE RESEARCHING REPLACEMENT TIRES ONLINE, I DISCOVERED THAT THIS PREMATURE TIRE WEAR HAD HAPPENED TO MANY OTHER CIVIC OWNERS. IN FACT, HONDA HAD ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN (008-001) FOR THIS BACK IN EARLY '08. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR CONTROL ARMS WHICH CAN CAUSE UNEVEN OR PREMATURE TIRE WEAR IN ALL 2006-2007 CIVICS, EXCEPT FOR THE SI. SO I WENT BACK TO THE DEALER, SHOWED THE ADVISOR THE SERVICE BULLETIN, AND GOT THE CONTROL ARMS FIXED. NOW WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST FIX THE CONTROL ARMS IN THE FIRST PLACE INSTEAD OF QUESTIONING THE CUSTOMER'S DRIVING HABITS? SEEMS TO ME EITHER THE ADVISOR IS INCOMPETENT OR DISHONEST. I SUSPECT IT'S THE LATTER AS SHE MENTIONED THAT HONDA DOESN'T PAY THE DEALER MUCH TO COVER THE REPAIR. OTHERS ON THE INTERNET HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE OVER THIS ISSUE. BROUGHT IN TO HONDA FOR UNEVEN TIRE WEAR AND THEY BLAMED GOODYEAR FOR THE WEAR EVEN THOUGH THE CHANGED THE REAR CONTROL ARMS TO CORRECT THE IMPROPER CAMBER FROM THE FACTORY. SEE SERVICE BULLETINS FOR FREE REPLACEMENT OF REAR SUSPENSION. HONDA WOULD NOT REPLACE TIRES. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. HONDA OFFERED TO PAY HALF OF THE TIRE REPLACEMENT. I DECLINED THEIR OFFER. WE WERE ABOUT TO GO TO ARBITRATION WHEN HONDA CALLED AND TOLD ME TO BRING THE 2007 CIVIC IN AND THEY WILL REPLACE ALL 4 TIRES AT NOT COST. IT TOOK ABOUT 4 MONTHS TO SETTLE, BUT EVENTUALLY ALL TIRES WERE REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. IF ALL ELSE FAILS, FILE WITH THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. THEY WILL HOLD THE DEALER RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT CORRECTING THE ISSUE EARLIER TO SAVE THE TIRES. *TR

THE TWO REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF $230.00. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO CURRENT RECALLS AND NO COMPENSATION WOULD BE OFFERED. THERE IS A CURRENT TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD CONTINUE TO OCCUR AND RESULT IN THE REAR TIRES HAVING TO BE REPLACED CONTINUOUSLY. I AM GETTING NEW UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND MY REAR WHEEL BEARINGS REPLACED AT NO COST TO ME,AND MY 2 OF MY TIRES(HOPEFULLY 4 IN THE END) PRORATED BASED ON WEAR. THERE IS A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED ION THIS,BUT I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF IT. MY FEAR IS THAT A CAR OWNER WHO DOESN'T EXAMINE HIS TIRES CLOSELY WILL SEE NO EXCESSIVE WEAR SINCE THE NEGATIVE CAMBER EFFECTS THE INSIDE OF THE TIRES. THIS COULD RESULT IN A NASTY BLOW OUT AND SOME CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED ON THE INTERNET,ALTHOUGH I CAN'T SUBSTANTIATE THEM. I FEEL THIS IS A REAL SAFETY ISSUE.
