ENGINE BLOCK CRACK DIAGNOSED FOLLOWING HONDA'S 10 YEAR WARRANTY THAT WE WERE NEVER ALERTED ABOUT BY HONDA OR AT ANY SERVICE PERFORMED BY HONDA IN THE PAST 10 YEARS. ENGINE WENT UP IN SMOKE AND BROKE DOWN WITHOUT ANY LIGHTS OR SENSORS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THANKFULLY ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD SAFELY.
AROUND 2009, JANUARY 2016 AND SEPTEMBER 2018 WHEN DRIVING VERY SLOWLY (TWO OF THESE TIMES IN A PARKING GARAGE AND ONE TIME WHEN TURNING A TIGHT CORNER WITH PEDESTRIANS PRESENT), I BELIEVE I SUDDENLY BRAKED BUT MY CAR SPED UP. THE LATEST OCCURRENCE RESULTED IN PROPERTY DAMAGE. I AM UNAWARE OF A RECALL RELATED TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FOR MY CAR. COULD THIS BE A MECHANICAL OR DESIGN PROBLEM?
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. CAR ENGINE CRACKED WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND KNOWN ISSUE TO HONDA FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF THE CIVIC. I HAD MY THREE KIDS, INCLUDING AN INFANT IN THE CAR. TOOK IT TO HONDA WHERE THEY EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WE HAD JUST MISSED. MY CAR IS IN IMPECCABLE SHAPE WITH LOW MILEAGE (80,000). HONDA REFUSED TO COVER THE ENGINE CRACK IN FULL (EXPECTING US TO PLAY 3,000), STATING THAT WE WERE NOT LOYAL HONDA CUSTOMERS AS OUR OTHER CAR WAS A TOYOTA. THE CAR HAD RECENTLY BEEN SERVICED BY HONDA AND THE AIRBAG RECALL WAS FIXED. AT THAT POINT, THEY SHOULD HAVE COMMUNICATED TO US REGARDING THE ENGINE AND THE CHANGES TO WARRANTY BASED ON THE KNOWN ISSUE.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V346000 (AIR BAGS). WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AFTER DRIVING OVER A POTHOLE. THERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
DRIVER SIDE SAFETY PRETENSOR MALFUNCTIONED. THIS ISSUE CAUSED THE AIRBAG TO NOT WORK IF IN AN ACCIDENT. HONDA SHOULD REPLACE ANY SAFETY ISSUES WITH ANY VEHICLES. I HAD TO GET IT REPLACED BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP COSTING 430.00.
COOLANT LEAKING AS DESCRIBED BY TSB 10-048 BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE ENGINE BLOCK THAT CRACKED, PART NUMBER 10002-RNA-A00. HONDA DEALER IN DUBLIN, OHIO SAID HONDA CORPORATION WOULD ONLY PAY 25% OF COST TO REPAIR SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO.
CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. MY CAR ONLY HAS 127K MILES ON IT AND OUT OF NO WHERE I HAD COOLANT LEAKING AND MY CAR ALMOST OVER HEATED BECAUSE OF IT WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. II HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND THAT'S HOW WE FIGURED OUT THE ENGINE WAS CRACKED. NOT ONCE DID I GET A CALL OR LETTER FROM HONDA INFORMING ME THAT MY CAR HAD A RECALL BECAUSE OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED HONDA TO SEE IF THEY WILL IN GOOD FAITH FIX MY CAR THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD NEED TO GET DIAGNOSISED BY A HONDA DEALER AND MAYBE THEY CAN DO A SHARED COST BUT IT IS NOT GUARANTEED. NOT ONLY CAN THEY NOT GUARANTEE THAT THEY WILL FIX IT BUT THEY WANTED ME TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR TO A DEALER? HOW IS THAT SAFE TO DO? US CONUSMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A DEFECTED CAR THAT THEY BUILT! MY HONDA SHOULD STILL HAVE MORE LIFE TO IT AND NOT DIED OUT ON ME SO EARLY. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL AND NOT JUST S REGULAR ONE.
LIKE ALL OTHERS WHO OWN HONDA HYBRID MY IMA BATTERIES FAILED LONG BEFORE THEY SHOULD HAVE NOW WITH MASSIVE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN CAR DRAINS 12V BATTERY AND YOU END UP WITH NO BRAKES OR STEERING IN TRAFFIC AND SUBJECT TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH WHY NO RECALL WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING TO EVERYONE WHO OWNS THIS HYBRID SINCE IT WAS INTRODUCED IN 2001 SHAMEFUL OVERSIGHT BY YOUR AGENCY.
ANOTHER CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK (R18A1 SOHC 1.8L 4-CYLINDER I-VTEC ENGINE) HONDA CIVIC EX WITH 103,000 MILES. SERVICED REGULARLY WITH HONDA FLUIDS AND OTHERWISE WELL TAKEN CARE OF. BLOCK CRACK AND COOLANT LEAKAGE OCCURRED DRIVING IN URBAN TRAFFIC AT 40 MPH AND RESULTED IN A MODERATE RISE IN ENGINE TEMPERATURE IN TEN MINUTES WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS AT "H". SUBSEQUENTLY THE ENGINE HAS HAD A STEADY DRIP OF COOLANT RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE BLOCK EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN STARTED.
THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SUN VISOR BROUGHT IT IN HAD IT FIXED IT WAS SPLITTING AT THE TOP WOULD NOT STAY UP HAPPENED AGAIN SAME THING HAPPENED TOOK IT IN ALL THEY DID WAS PUT SOME GLUE ON IT TOOK IT FOR THE 3RD TIME THEY WANT ME TO PAY 100.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED THIS IS A PROBLEM VISOR WON'T STAY UP SPLITTING AGAIN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED INSPECTION DUE TO FAULTY ENGINE MOUNTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD FAULTY ENGINE MOUNTS THAT NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT
I CANT OPEN GAS COVER BUT I CAN OPEN THE TRUCK OF THE CAR
The visors on both the passenger and driver side split in half and were hanging down. This caused the visors to block my field of vision and made driving more hazardous. There were no warnings prior to failure; however, I found online that this is a known problem (https://considertheconsumer.com/class-action-settlements/honda-civic-visor-recall-settlement). Honda did not contact me concerning the recall and I did not find out about it until I googled the information.
DRIVER WINDOW WON'T GO UP OR DOWN AND THERE IS A VERY STRONG PLASTIC TYPE SMELL. THE SMELL WAS SO STRONG THAT WE IMMEDIATELY BECAME DIZZY EVEN WITH THE PASSENGER WINDOW DOWN & SUNROOF WIDE OPEN. WE DROVE LESS THAN A MILE. IT HAS BEEN OVER AN HOUR AND WE ARE STILL FEELING NAUSEOUS, DIZZY AND WEAK IN THE KNEES. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AGAIN BECAUSE I BELIEVE WE WOULD HAVE PASSED OUT IF DRIVEN FURTHER. NO CHECK LIGHTS CAME ON, NO PREVIOUS INDICATION OF A PROBLEM.

OK I DID THE APPOINTMENT, TOOK IT IN, AND I TOLD THEM WHY I'M HERE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT FOR THEM TO CHECK IT I HAVE TO PAY $120 APART FROM WHAT IT COSTS TO REPAIR. MY QUESTION IS THEN WHAT IS FREE?'
I NOTICED COOLANT ON THE GARAGE FLOOR. THE COOLANT LEVEL SEEMED LOW. I TOPPED IT UP. NEXT DAY THE CAR ENGINE OIL INDICATOR BECAME HIGH AND THERE WAS SOME SMOKE. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY PRESSURE TESTED THE SYSTEM. THEY FOUND A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN THE 2006-2009 HONDA CIVICS. HONDA HAS APPARENTLY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS ENGINE BY 10 YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE BUT HAVE NOT MADE IT PUNLIC NOR HAVE I RECEIVED NOTICE. I HAVE ONLY 160K MILES ON THIS CAR BUT YET AM OUT OF LUCK AS IT'S PAST THAT 10 YEAR TIME LIMIT. THIS IS HIGHLY UNETHICAL OF HONDA AS THEY DID NOT SEND OUT ANY RECALL NOTICE. THE ENGINE IS SUPPOSED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE CAR. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND FORCE THEM TO ISSUE A RECALL.
I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2016 WITH 95,000 MILES FROM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I PREFORMED MAINTENANCE AS REQUIRED AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES. THE CAR HAD BEEN WORKING PERFECTLY UP UNTIL JUNE 5, 2018. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND NOTICED MY CAR BEGAN TO SHOW SIGNS OF OVER HEATING SO I PULLED OVER. I LET MY CAR COOL DOWN BEFORE CHECKING IT. EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT BUT THE COOLANT. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS WRONG SO I DROVE THE CAR TO THE CLOSEST AUTO SHOP I KNEW OF. MY CAR DROVE WELL THERE BUT I HAD TO PULL OVER TO ADD WATER. MY MECHANIC INFORMED THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE ENGINE AND COOLANT WAS LEAKING OUT. I ASKED IF THIS HAD BEEN A CAUSE OF SOMETHING I HADN'T MAINTAINED OR CHECKED. HE MENTIONED THAT THIS HAD BEEN A PROBLEM HE'S SEEN WITH HONDA'S. IT WAS A VERY SMALL MAYBE HAIRLINE FRACTURE WHICH HAD CAUSE MY COOLANT TO LEAK AND MY CAR TO OVERHEAT. I WENT HOME AND GOOGLED MY ISSUE. CONSUMERS REPORTS HAD AN ARTICLE DESCRIBING THE ISSUE WITH 2006-2009 HONDA'S WHICH WERE CRACKING AND LEAKING COOLANT. I FOUND A NUMBER AND CONTACTED HONDA BUT THEY INFORMED ME THAT I AM OVER THE WARRANTY LIMIT. I AM STILL WAITING ON A FINAL RESPONSE. I USE MY CAR FOR WORK SO IT ISN'T HEAVILY USED. I KNOW I'M WITHIN THE RANGE OF MANY WHO'VE HAD ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN MORE THAN 10 YEARS TO ADD THE MILES THAT WOULD BE NEEDED FOR THE ENGINE TO START TO FAIL. I UNDERSTAND THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY FOR HONDA BUT I WISH THEY'D CONSIDER MY CASE. THIS ISN'T A CAUSE OF MINE BUT A MANUFACTURES ISSUE WHICH SHOULDN'T VOID MY WARRANTY. IF THE CAR HAS A FAULTY ITEM THAT FAULTY ITEM WILL BECOME DEFECTIVE. IN THIS CASE THE ENGINE WHICH CRACKED AT NO FAULT OF MINE.
I AM DOING THIS REGARDING THE CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK ISSUE. I HAVE EMAILED HONDA AND THEY WILL NOT COVER IT. HOW CAN A MANUFACTURER KNOW THEY HAVE SOLD A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT AND NOT BE LIABLE? I AM A LOW INCOME INDIVIDUAL AND CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX MY CAR, IT IS VERY UPSETTING.
HOPE YOU ARE WELL. I AM A PROUD OWNER OF A 2007 CIVIC LX COUPE 1.8L 4 CYLINDER THAT I HAVE OWNED AND LOVED SINCE 9/28/09. IT'S MY DAILY DRIVER AND OFTEN TIMES MY LIFELINE. WHILE DRIVING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD TWO DAYS AGO I NOTICED MY TEMPERATURE GAUGE WAS RISING QUITE QUICKLY. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK MY FLUIDS (AS I JUST CHANGED MY OIL AND TOPPED OFF MY FLUIDS ON 2/14/18) AND NOTICED I WAS VERY LOW ON COOLANT. MY VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY THE NIGHT BEFORE. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS A COOLANT LEAK SO I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO WEIR CANYON HONDA IN ANAHEIM HILLS FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC LOOKED AT MY OIL AND IMMEDIATELY DETERMINED THERE WAS COOLANT IN MY ENGINE AND SIGNIFICANT BUILD UP. I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS A TSB #10-048 AND #SB-08-044 FOR MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT SINCE I AM 5 MONTHS PASSED MY 10 YEAR WARRANTY, THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. MY ISSUE IS, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS? WHY DIDN'T HONDA SEND ME A NOTICE ABOUT THIS EXTREME ISSUE? AS PER THE REQUIREMENTS, MY VEHICLE NEEDED TO MALFUNCTION WITHIN 7 YEARS FOR THE WARRANTY TO BE IN EFFECT, TO ONLY BE EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS DUE TO COMPLAINTS FROM LOYAL CUSTOMERS. AND YOU ALSO NEEDED TO HAVE THE PROBLEM, PAY FOR IT, THEN FIGHT FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I AM AT MY WHITS END OF WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THERE WAS A MINOR INJURY, WHICH DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD AND DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS. THE DEALER (SCHOLFIELD HONDA, 7017 E KELLOGG DR, WICHITA, KS 67207) WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD INVESTIGATE THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE ON THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE VEHICLE COULD NO LONGER BE SAFELY OPERATED ON THE ROAD. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER (WEST COUNTY HONDA, 15532 MANCHESTER RD, ELLISVILLE, MO) WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 77,000. *TT *TR

A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND THEN TOWED TO A COLLISION SHOP. IT WAS NOT DETERMINED IF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 145,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT POWERED OFF THE VEHICLE. ONCE RESTARTED, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO OPERATE CORRECTLY. IN ADDITION, A BURNING ODOR WAS PRESENT INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DELRAY HONDA (2500 S FEDERAL HWY, DELRAY BEACH, FL 33483, (561) 404-5617) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000.
MY ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED AND NOW THE HONDA BULLETIN IS SAYING I'M OUT OF THE TSB WARRANTY!!!! I'VE BEEN QUOTED WELL OVER $5,000 FOR A NEW ENGINE AND LABOR!!! PLEASE LIST THIS AS A RECALL!!!! IT IS UNFAIR FOR ME THE CONSUMER AND MANY OTHERS WHO MISSED THE WARRANTY!! MY ENGINE BLOCK JUST CRACKED TODAY AND TODAY I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THE 10YR EXTENSION FROM THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE!! SO IT COOLS DOWN AND I ADD COOLANT IN THE RESERVE AND THE RAIDIATOR TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. SO WHEN I ARRIVED ANDTURNED MY CAR OFF I WAS ABLE TO HERE THE WATER ON THE HOT MOTOR SO I LOOKED FOR WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS COME TO FIND OUT THAT MY CAR HAD A CRACK GOING ACROSS THE BLOCK OF THE ENGINE. AND THAT'S WHERE IT LEAKS ALL THE COOLANT OUT FROM. THAT IS REALLY UNSAFE I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT. PROBABLY MADE A BAD DECISION IN HONDA! I WANT TO KNOW IF I COULD BE HELPED? I NEARLY LOST CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE WITH THE SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD.
CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK, LEAKING ENGINE COOLANT AND OVERHEATING
MY ENGINE BLOCK IS CRACKED. I KNOW THAT SEVERAL YEAR MODELS OF THE HONDA CIVIC HAVE BEEN RECALLED DUE TO THIS DEFECT; THE 2007 YR MODEL AS IS MINE INCLUDED. WHEN TURNING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS OFF, THEY INTERMITTENTLY DO NOT PARK AT THE CORRECT LOCATION AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD, OR THEY CONTINUE TO RUN. WHEN YOU TRY TO PUT IT IN THE PARK POSITION, IT JUST KEEPS RUNNING, AND LANDS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE SYMPTOM IS USUALLY MORE NOTICEABLE IN COLDER WEATHER; HOWEVER, IT IS DIFFICULT TO REPRODUCE. IF YOU HAVE A VEHICLE THAT REPORTEDLY HAS THIS SYMPTOM, REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR COVER PLATE. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ON INTERNET FORUMS, AND THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. AT WHAT POINT WILL HONDA TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND RECALL IT? CAN YOU HELP WITH THAT? ENGINE BLOCK SUDDENLY DEVELOPED CRACKING, LOSES COOLANT AND OVERHEATS. HONDA ADMITS TO FAULTY ENGINE BLOCK BY EXTENDING WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS. HOWEVER HONDA WILL NOT ALLOW PROACTIVE USE OF WARRANTY. PROBLEM MUST SURFACE FIRST TO BE COVERED. MOST PROBLEMS SURFACE AFTER 10 YEARS, WHICH RELIEVES HONDA OF MOST OF THE CLAIMS LIABILITY. MY PROBLEM DEVELOPED 7 MONTHS OUT OF EXTENDED WARRANTY AT 76,000 MILES. ENGINE BLOCKS SHOULD LAST UNTIL CAR IS CRUSHED. SAFETY ISSUE: SUDDEN ONSET OF OVERHEATING AND BREAKDOWN. OUR 2007 HONDA CIVIC IS APPARENTLY PART OF THE SERVICE POSTING HONDA SENT TO ITS SERVICE DEPARTMENTS IN 2010, BUT NOT TO ITS CUSTOMERS, REGARDING A CASTING ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE BLOCKS IN 2006 THROUGH EARLY 2009 CIVICS. WITH THE ENGINE CASTING ISSUE A PERFECTLY MAINTAINED VEHICLE IS STILL BOUND TO OVERHEAT AT SOME POINT IN TIME BECAUSE A BAD ENGINE BLOCK WILL EVENTUALLY LEAK COOLANT. THE UNKNOWN CUSTOMER EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS GOOD FOR SOMETHING LIKE 8 YEARS, OR MAYBE 10, I DON'T KNOW. IN THE LAST YEAR I'VE HAD 3 COIL PACKS GO BAD IN THIS CIVIC ENGINE, THE WATER PUMP REPLACED AND THEN REPLACED A SECOND TIME BECAUSE THE ENGINE KEPT OVERHEATING PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THE LEAKING ENGINE BLOCK. MY DAUGHTER WAS LEFT STRANDED 3 TIMES ON THE ROAD BECAUSE OF THIS ENGINE BLOCK CASTING ISSUE WITH A FORESEEN FUTURE FAILURE THAT WAS HIDDEN FROM THE CUSTOMER. THE LAST TIME THE CAR QUIT SHE WAS LEFT STRANDED ON THE INTERSTATE IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION. EVERYTHING I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET POINTS TO HONDA ONLY HONORING WHAT THEY WANT TO HONOR ON THIS KNOW MANUFACTURING PROBLEM, AND THIS IS ONLY AFTER CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN OVERHEATED, AND SOMETIMES LEFT STRANDED ON THE ROAD IN MANY CASES BECAUSE THE COIL PACKS GO BAD AND DO NOT ALLOW THE CAR TO RESTART AND RUN SAFELY. HONDA HAS NOT BEEN FORTHRIGHT CONCERNING THE CASTING MALFUNCTION OF THE 2006 THROUGH EARLY 2009 ENGINE BLOCK. THEY ARE NOT ACTIVELY LOOKING FOR THIS LEAK, AND IF AN ENGINE SNEAKS PAST THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DATE THEN ALL COST IS ON YOU. A SAFETY RECALL NEEDS TO BE PUT OUT ON THESE ENGINES, AND HONDA NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO DO THE RIGHT THING SINCE TO DATE IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN A GOOD CORPORATE CITIZEN. THAT IS A SHAME, AND THEY SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE SINCE A FAILED ENGINE BLOCK IS A $4,500 - $6,000 REPLACEMENT COST AT THE DEALER, AND THESE ENGINES WERE ALWAYS BOUND TO FAIL AS SOME POINT IN TIME.
KNOWN ISSUE OF CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK HAPPENING AROUND 90K-110K MILES. MINE JUST HIS 95K AND THE ENGINE BLOCK CRACKED. HONDA ONLY OFFERED TO FIX IT AT FULL RETAIL PRICE MINIMUM OF $4,000. THE CAR WORKED GREAT AND THEN STOPPED WORKING WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY.
TO WHOM THIS MAY CONCERN, I AM THE SOLE OWNER OF A 2007 HONDA CIVIC WITH 57,576 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A FORMAL CLAIM AGAINST AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR COMPANY FOR NOT EXTENDING THE 10 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE ENGINE BLOCK DUE TO AN ENGINEERING/MANUFACTURING DEFECT DURING THE PRODUCTION OF THE VEHICLE. ON 2/1/18 MY CAR WAS DIAGNOSED BY A HONDA CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN, WHO DETERMINED THAT MY ENGINE BLOCK WAS LEAKING COOLANT DUE TO A CRACK BETWEEN CYLINDERS 1 & 2 ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BLOCK. THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED TO ME THAT HONDA ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE BLOCK TO COVER THIS ISSUE BUT MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED BY 3 MONTHS AND THEREFORE HONDA WOULD NOT COVER IT. SO, I DECIDED TO FILE A FORMAL CLAIM WITH HONDA AND AFTER GOING BACK AND FORTH FOR A WEEK AND A HALF THEY AGREED TO PAY 50% OF THE COST TO REPLACE THE ENGINE BLOCK, WHICH MEANT THAT I WAS RESPONSIBLE TO PAY $2,658.75 TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE. I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE COVERED THE ENGINE BLOCK REPLACEMENT 100% FREE OF CHARGE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE ISSUE WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURES DEFECT. ALSO, THE CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, HAS LOW MILES, AND HAS BEEN MAINTAINED AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS PURCHASED AT. AS A CUSTOMER, WHO PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW, I FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO INVEST MONEY ON REPLACING THE MOTOR DUE TO A DEFECT. THE CUSTOMER SHOULD ONLY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE . I'VE HAD MU CIVIC 11 YEARS AND DRIVEN THE CAR 167,000 MILES TROUBLE FREE. ON JAN 26, 2018 I DETECTED A SUDDEN COOLANT LEAK WITH ENGINE OVERHEATING AND STEAM COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE AND WAS SHOCKED WHEN I WAS TOLD I HAD A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. I WAS FURTHER INFORMED HONDA HAD IDENTIFIED THE DEFECT AND EXTENDED A WARRANTY FOR IT. HOWEVER, I WAS ONE YEAR BEYOND THE WARRANTY PERIOD. IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR TO ME. THE REPAIR COST WOULD HAVE BEEN EXCESSIVE SO I WOUND UP SELLING THE CAR FOR ITS PARTS VALUE. THIS ALL HAPPEND WHEN I WAS DRIVING 45 MPH AT NIGHT HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF, DASH LIGHTS FLICKER OFF AN ON CAR POWER TRAN JERKING THE ENGINE STALLS, AND PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM BEING RESTARTED, CHECK ENGIN LIGHT CAME ON THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED IN THE GRARGE SINCE THIS HAPPEND 3 YEARS AGO IT NOW STARTS BUT ITS THROWING CODES CHECK ENGIN LIGHT STILL ON . AFTER CAR WARMS UP THESE SAME SYMPTOMS START TO HAPPEN CODES FOR POWERTRAN CONTROL MODUL COMPUTER AND IMA SYSTEM THIS ALL HAPPEND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNNING .
ENGINE BLOCK WARRANTY EXTENSION. I RECENTLY NOTICED THAT MY CAR STARTED TO OVERHEAT, AND THAT THE COOLANT WAS ALWAYS GONE WITH NO LEAKS. SO I BEGAN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING THE THERMOSTAT, IT ENDED UP NOT BEING THE THERMOSTAT. I CONTINUED THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO TRACK THE PROBLEM. AFTER A RADIATOR, HOSES WATER PUMP AND ALL OTHER THINGS A CAR WOULD NEED TO FUNCTION INVOLVING COOLANT WAS REPLACED I WAS LEFT CLUELESS AND STUMPED. THEREFORE, I WENT TO HONDA FORUMS AND GOOGLE, AND THAT IS WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR CIVICS BECAUSE THEY WERE DEVELOPING A PROBLEM WITH CRACKED BLOCKS. THIS EXPLAINED EVERYTHING, WENT TO FORUMS AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS THE WORST AND BASICALLY TOLD MOST PEOPLE THAT IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND MOST OF THE PEOPLE DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE A NOTICE SUCH AS MYSELF. THE ENGINE BLOCKS AREA COMPLETELY WEAK AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED. THIS ISSUE USUALLY OCCURS AROUND 80,000-110,000 MILES. THIS WARRANTY NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED ESPECIALLY FOR PEOPLE WHO BOUGHT THE CAR USED AS MYSELF, I RECEIVED A NOTICE FOR THE AIRBAGS AND DID NOT RECEIVE A NOTICE ABOUT THE MOTORS, SO I BELIEVE IT IS NOT FAIR AND THAT HONDA REALLY IS STEALING MONEY FROM PEOPLE.
ON JANUARY 2ND, 2018 , WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET TO A LOCAL AAA APPROVED AUTO REPAIR CARE CENTER WHEN THE ENGINE OF MY HONDA CIVIC BECAME OVERHEATED CAUSING FUMES/SMOKE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE AND WOULD THUS BE A SAFETY HAZARD. THE PURPOSE OF TAKING IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP WAS INITIALLY JUST TO GET A VEHICLE INSPECTION TEST/REPORT DONE FOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION. DUE TO THE ENGINE OVERHEATING, FURTHER TESTS WERE DONE, AND REPLACING THE WATER PUMP AND PERFORMING VPS COOLANT SYSTEM FLUSH WAS RECOMMENDED. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO MY REGULAR MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED IT THOROUGHLY AND DISCOVERED A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. ONLINE I STUMBLED ACROSS SEVERAL WEB SITES INDICATING PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH ENGINE BLOCKS WITH SOME HONDA CIVICS. I CALLED AMERICA HONDA WHO SAID I NEEDED TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A HONDA GARAGE TO CONFIRM THE CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. THIS I DID AND IT WAS REINSPECTED AND CONFIRMED BY THE HONDA MECHANICS THAT THERE WAS INDEED A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING AT THE HONDA GARAGE FOR OVER THREE MONTHS NOW WHILE AMERICA HONDA DECIDED HOW MUCH THEY CAN HELP WITH REPLACING THE ENGINE. THEY WILL REPLACE MY ENGINE AFTER MY DEDUCTIBLE OF $2500. I HAVE RELUCTANTLY ACCEPTED THIS AS IT'S BEEN A LONG WAIT AND I NEED MY CAR BACK ON THE ROAD. I UNDERSTAND FROM AMERICAN HONDA THAT THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK WAS 10 YEARS FROM FIRST PURCHASE AND ONLY THE FIRST OWNER WOULD HAVE RECEIVED INFORMATION ON THIS WARRANTY. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THAT A CRACK IN THE ENGINE BLOCK THAT LEADS TO AN OVERHEATED ENGINE POTENTIALLY CAUSING A FIRE HAZARD SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER A RECALL. AMERICAN HONDA NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS DEFECTIVE ENGINE. THEY GAVE ME A FAULTY ENGINE THAT COULD CAUSE A FIRE DUE TO OVERHEATING AND SHOULD REPLACE IT ENTIRELY AT THEIR COST. THIS CAUSE TEMPERATURE TO BECOME RED WITH WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE FRONT HOOD WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY WIFE AND 3 MONTH BABY. IT LOOKS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WE FOUND OUT HONDA HAD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THIS TO 10 YEARS BECAUSE OF KNOWN DEFECTS. UNFORTUNATELY, I EXPERIENCED THE DEFECT 14 MONTHS AFTER MY CIVIC'S 10 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE HOOD I SAW THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE RESERVOIR AND I COULDN'T DETECT A COOLANT LEAK. THE NEXT DAY DEC.26TH 2017 I REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT ON MY CIVIC PRESUMING THAT THE THERMOSTAT WAS STICKING AND COOLANT WAS NOT CIRCULATING. THAT WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT THE CASE BECAUSE YET AGAIN THE NEXT DAY DEC.27TH 2017 IT OVERHEATED AND I HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED A SEVERE COOLANT LEAK COMING FROM THE ENGINE BLOCK. WHEN I GOT THE CAR HOME I DID SOME RESEARCH AND NOTICED A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN (ABOVE) AND SAW WE WERE NOT THE ONLY ONES HAVING THIS ISSUE. WE CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY STARTED A CASE FOR US AND RECOMMENDED THAT WE TAKE IT TO OUR LOCAL HONDA TO BE INSPECTED FURTHER. WE MADE A APPOINTMENT FOR THE INSPECTION AND AFTER HONDA INSPECTED IT THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH A CRACKED ENGINE BLOCK. THIS IS DO TO THEIR FAULTY DEFECTED PRODUCT. HONDA SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND FIX THE ISSUE. THIS CAR WAS METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED BY MY LOCAL HONDA AND HAS BEEN IN THE FAMILY. WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS BULLETIN OR ELSE WE WOULD HAD BROUGHT OUR CIVIC IN SOONER BEFORE THERE SUPPOSED EXTRA 10 YEAR WARRANTY EXPIRED. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER HOW MANY YEARS HONDA KNOWS THIS IS A ONGOING ISSUE AND IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN IF IT DOESN'T GET TAKEN CARE OF THE RIGHT WAY. THE ENGINE OVERHEATED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE HE WAS DRIVING AND GOT SO HOT THAT IT MELTED THE OIL DIP STICK (SEE IMAGE), LUCKY IT DID NOT GO ON FIRE, THE IGNITION COIL WAS ALSO MELTED TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. I KNOW THAT HONDA EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY ON THIS, AND MY CAR IS 2 MONTHS PASS THAT DATE WITH ONLY 57K MLES ON IT. WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO PAY FOR A KNOW ISSUE THAT CAN SHOW UP AT GIVEN TIME. WHETHER IT IS 5,10 OR 20 YEARS IT IS A KNOW DEFECT AND HONDA AS COMPANY SHOULD BE STANDING BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION OF THIS ISSUE IN WRITING FROM HONDA AT ANYTIME TO WATCH FOR THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND IT WOULD BE A FINANCIAL BURDEN TO DO A COMPLETE RECALL BUT I BELIEVE THAT IS WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT AWARE OF THIS POTENTIAL DANGER.

THE CONTACT CALLED MCCONNELL HONDA (334-271-2500, 2840 EASTERN BLVD, MONTGOMERY, AL 36116), BUT THEY DID NOT REPAIR WINDOWS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA CIVIC. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED AT LOW SPEEDS, IT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER AND BLACK SMOKE APPEARED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT DID NOT SEE FLAMES; HOWEVER, A COOLANT LEAK WAS OBSERVED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CHECKERED FLAG HONDA (6541 E VIRGINIA BEACH BLVD, NORFOLK, VA) STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INCLUDED IN THE EXTENDED COVERAGE FOR THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE UNKNOWN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER FOR THE FAILURE HAD EXPIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 166,000.
MY 2007 HONDA CIVIC COUPE OVERHEATED ON INTERSTATE IN FL AND STOPPED OPERATING. VEHICLE WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN AND REQUIRED TO BE TOWED.IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING FLUIDS. HONDA KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS. MY CAR WAS PURCHASED IN OCT OF 2006 AND INCIDENT OCCURRED IN SEPT OF 2017. MY VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BUT HONDA HAS ONLY OFFERED TO PAY $3000 OF THE $6100 REPAIR. I FIND THAT THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND THEY SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECT AND SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS MODEL AND NOT WAIT FOR THE ENGINE TO CRACK. THEY KNEW OF THIS DEFECT AND PLAYED THE ODDS THAT NOT ALL OF THE CARS WOULD BREAKDOWN. I NEVER EVEN RECIEVED THE NOTIFICATION OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I FOUND OUT ABOUT IT AFTER BREAKDOWN AND RESEARCHING IT ON INTERNET. A FULL RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPLEMENTED IF THEY KNEW THERE WAS A FAULTY ENGINE BLOCK.
