NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Honda CR-V. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
*This car was parked in the driveway 2 days without being driven before the following incident* ALSO- there are recalls for this make and model. Honda always said that the recalls do not include my car. Recalls should be expanded to include mine since the car is un drivable at the Honda service center. WHAT HAPPENED: Alarm went off on car in driveway. Horn constantly going off. Smoke came out around steering wheel and inside the vehicle filled with smoke. All lights came on dash. Gears were locked up and had to manually put in neutral to get on tow truck. Car is at Honda dealership in cumming GA. Said I needed steering wheel cable, srs unit, safety restraints unit, & brake boosters. They put parts on. Did same thing to them as it did in my driveway. Horn & smoke & all!! Now they say it needs steering wheel & the harness is on back order until August 28! and that my vin # is NOT on the recall but I believe it should be. This car could have caused a fire and was parked beside my house. My family and I were at risk and almost called police and fire department. Newborn baby, & other family members inside the home. Family members disconnected the battery because horn was so loud. All these repairs are headed towards $9000 & this is insane. This is my only vehicle. I must have transportation!
I was driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas on [XXX] with moderate traffic, going approximately 70 mph. I was traveling in the #1 (left most) lane. I had been using Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) for several hours without any problems. ACC started behaving differently: instead of automatically applying the brakes when the vehicle in front slowed down, I had to press the break peddle manually. This happed twice before the car suddenly, unexpectedly, applied full braking force. I had to take emergency action to avoid being hit by the vehicle behind me and quickly move onto the left shoulder. My vehicle completed its stop on the shoulder. A message flashed on the instrument panel (I believe it was related to the brakes), I was too busy getting off the road to read it. After the vehicle stopped, the brakes released, and I was again able to drive. I turned off ACC and re-entered the freeway (with some difficulty, as traffic was moving very fast). We continued our journey to our destination without cruise control activated. There were no further problems. I took my vehicle into the dealer when I returned from our trip. They inspected it and checked for codes. There were no codes. They did a short test drive and had no problems. The said vehicle needed software updates and did them. Updated EBB, EVPS, and updated ACC/CMBS and PGM F/I software. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Multiple times while driving on a highway with no other cars in front of me, the BRAKE light flashes. Yesterday, without warning and no other car in front of me, the automatic brake system engaged and brought my vehicle to a complete stop. I was almost hit from behind by another car.
Warning lights: adaptive cruise control fault. Lane departure fault collision avoidance fault and emissions check engine. Diagnosed fix: fuel injectors malfunctioning. This making the emissions light come on making all the other warning lights to go off. Fixed at a local Honda dealer. Not really a fix less then 24 hours later the same warning lights came back on however now a huge loss of power and loud engine noise when stepping on throttle. Just dropped off at dealer again to be diagnosed again.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, several unknown warning lights illuminated, causing the cruise control mode and the lane mitigation system to become inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was fuel intrusion in the engine oil. The dealer determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under an unknown extended warranty coverage because the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The CMBS suddenly engaged the brakes when there was no other vehicle on the road no less in front of the vehicle. The brakes very forcefully engaged causing the vehicle to slam to a stop. The light has come on previously on occasion with no cause but the brakes have never been engaged till now.
I was driving on the highway last week and my steering kept sticking. It’s like having to constantly adjust and you can feel the steering stick. Now it’s happening even in town while driving. I reached out to Steve Padgett Honda in Irmo SC and they said it’s not a known issue. I beg to differ. I decided to google to see what might be the problem And was overwhelmed by all of the information I have found. Including the fact that it IS a known issue to Honda. I think it’s dangerous! TY for any help.

The car failed to start three times and stalled twice in 1 day. My new driver, [XXX] , was driving when this occurred. Car was driven to a local mechanic that diagnosed "code P0087 Fuel pressure failure open recall - recommend going to the dealership." The car was then taken to Holler Honda. They confirmed the problem. The part was ordered but is back ordered. I've been given an ETA of September 2024. I have not been offered a loaner and am currently renting a car at my own expense as the car is now inoperable. The vehicle has under 37,000 miles INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Steering is "sticking" when driving above 35 mph which requires some effort to overcome and when it "unsticks" results in over correction. Also makes an audible noise when "unsticks" First noticed a year ago. It subsided but now has returned and is worse than before.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while attempting to come to a stop at a traffic sign, the vehicle did not brake as she depressed the brake pedal. The contact stated that she thought that she rolled into the intersection at approximately 10 MPH and crashed into a vehicle that was crossing the intersection. The contact's front end crashed into the other vehicle's wheel well and the passenger door. The contact's front end was crushed and her air bag was deployed. The contact stated that the police arrived and the Emergency Services unit responded. The contact stated she was treated for lacerations on both arms starting at her wrists and stopping at her elbows and she had bruising on her abdomen. The contact was not transported to the hospital. The contact stated that both vehicles were undriveable and towed away from the accident. The contact stated that prior to the accident she had taken the vehicle to a dealer due to a "brake system problem" message on her instrument cluster. The contact stated that the dealer had examined the vehicle and that when she drove the vehicle off of the lot the "brake system problem" message was no longer showing on the instrument cluster. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the brake warning reoccurred. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer and was advised by the dealer that there was no failure of the brake system. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that she had the crash and was not able to return the vehicle to the dealer due to the crash. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.
I experienced a concerning incident while driving recently, and I would like to bring attention to several issues with my vehicle. Firstly, while turning onto a main street at a speed of 35mph, my vehicle's automatic emergency braking system unexpectedly activated, despite there being no obstruction in front, beside, or behind me. This occurred at a green light as I approached the beginning of the intersection. Additionally, I have been facing multiple problems with my stereo, including glitches, turning off unexpectedly, and the brightness becoming engaged and freezing. I had previously reported these issues to the dealership within the first two years of purchasing my vehicle in 2019. However, the technicians only unplugged and replugged the stereo, assuring me it would be "good." I’m still currently dealing with the problem of the stereo glitches in 2024. Given these concerns, I am worried about the possibility of future issues arising and the potential for a collision due to my vehicle stopping itself randomly while driving. As a responsible driver with a family to consider, I kindly request immediate assistance in resolving these matters. To address the specific questions: 1. The component or system that failed or malfunctioned is the automatic emergency braking system. 2. Yes, the vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. 3. The safety of both myself and others was put at risk due to the sudden activation of the automatic emergency braking system. 4. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. 5. The vehicle and its components have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others. 6. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure of the automatic emergency braking system.
My car is having sticking steering and creaky noise when it turns. I googled this online. They have over 500,000 cars with the same issue. I went to get it checked out they want me to pay $3400 to get this fixed. I believe this is a major safety issue. Steering sticks at high speed very scary. The parts are on backorder, which leads me to believe there’s multiple cars having same issue. what I read into this is that Honda is more worried about the profit versus the safety of their consumers and their loyal consumers. that is over 500,000 cars with the same issue. Honda should be fixing these for charge. I have an injured in this car. It is the only one I have to drive. Before they fix it. I think they should fix it for free because it’s obviously a defect and 100,000 cars and therefore their liability to protect their customers. When you call her number, they talk about safety. They don’t give a dam about safety they only care about making a profit.

Issue: At speeds above 40 miles per hour there is resistance in the steering wheel. Although the resistance is in a narrow range, it increases with speed. Steering issues may cause a safety hazard. Dealer Diagnostic: Local Honda dealer performed a diagnostic and test drive and confirmed the resistance in the steering wheel. The dealer recommended replacing the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) gear box with an estimated cost of $3,770. It is my understanding that the 2017 and 2018 Honda CRVs were under a recall for this issue. My vehicle was manufactured in January 2019, and it had 34,435 miles when the dealer preformed it review on August 20, 2024. The Honda recall might not have completely correct the problem, and it should include additional model years.
Steering wheel sticks when turning, can overpower it but it is not right. Other people on the Honda forums have reported the same.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that after stopping at a traffic signal, while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle accelerated to approximately 15 MPH, and then the vehicle independently stopped. The contact had not depressed the brake pedal however, the “Brake” warning light illuminated during the failure. The contact stated that there was no vehicle or object directly in front of the vehicle. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and was able to continue driving. The contact stated that later while making a right turn onto a side street, the vehicle again stopped independently. The contact stated that she depressed the accelerator pedal, and the vehicle was able to move forward and gain forward momentum. The contact stated that the brake warning light was illuminated. The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, the dealer reset the sensor to the high setting. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
Traveling about 30mph on a street, the car activated the automatic breaking for no apparent reason. The screen flashed the orange “BREAK” sign at the same time that the car slammed the brakes on (with no prior warning). There were no cars in front, next to, or around me to the sides. There were no people or animals around and the weather was fully clear. The car behind me honked loudly at the sudden breaking of my vehicle. Everything in my car flew forwards (bags falling off the seat into the foot bed). It was very dangerous and I was lucky to avoid being hit from behind. I believe I injured my back and neck from the short stop as well. And my car just went through a full inspection at Firestone two days ago and everything checked out fine. The breaks activated for absolutely no apparent reason.
Numerous times, I have been driving with absolutely no other vehicles or obstacles surrounding my vehicle, and it would suddenly activate the automatic braking system without warning, leading to a very rapid deceleration from a high rate of speed, almost causing me to crash.
My wife was the driver, and I was in the front passenger seat. We were going about 35 MPH. Weather was not an issue. All of a sudden, and for no apparent reason, the car emergency braked to an emergency stop. We saw no warning lights on the instrument panel prior to the incident or afterwards. Traffic was light and nothing was nearby. Luckily no one was behind us, and no accident occurred. My wife and I had seat belts on and were not injured. We had our two dogs with us. They were thrown forward but were not injured, though they were scared. They are okay. We took the car to the Honda dealership in Jefferson City, MO. They checked the car and said that a temporary stop of the radar code was stored in the Integrated Driver Support System. They believed most likely a rock had hit the radar assembly and knocked it out of aim. They needed to recalibrate the radar to fix it. They said there was also a leak of the air conditioning and repair should be done at same time as the radar repair because the front bumper and radar had to be removed to perform the repairs. A part had to be ordered, so we had repair done six days later. In the meantime, we disabled the Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) feature. The car has now been fixed and appears to be operating properly, with AEB on.
Hello I have been so upset with Honda. I’ve owned many Hondas and other cars in my past and never had any problems. I would tell anyone to buy a Honda until now. My daughter has been driving my car and she said it smelled bad and all the lights kept coming on. We took it to a mechanic and at that time they didn’t really see anything wrong with it. My daughter kept driving it and we found out about the recall and called to have that fixed and they said they don’t have the part and they don’t know when they will get it. Well that was upsetting because we felt that was an issue with the car and we didn’t understand why they couldn’t just order the part give us something else to drive until they got it in but no such luck. The last time I talked to Honda in Marion, Ohio they said I didn’t need the part but clearly that is wrong. Well the part I’m the most upset about is my daughter could have died driving down the road and all the lights came on in the vehicle and it would not drive while she’s out in the middle of nowhere scared half to death. We get the vehicle to Honda and they say it’s the fuel injectors. I’m like no one’s fuel injectors go out. Well I look it up and it’s a huge problem for Honda and they just don’t want to pay to have them replaced. It has cost me $2000 and had to get another car to drive and my Honda still isn’t driving very good and still no recall fixed. This is wrong! I am very disappointed in Honda and shocked. What can I do about this situation?
I was driving my car in the city going 40 mph down a 4-lane road. There was no other traffic on the road at that time ahead of me, and the conditions of the roadway were dry with sunny weather. My vehicle's dashboard flashed and indicated automatic emergency breaking a couple of times, and suddenly slammed on the brakes. If the driver behind me had not been paying attention, then they could have rear-ended me causing injuries to the occupants of both vehicles. I was able to keep the vehicle in my lane, but the seatbelt knocked the air out of me due to the abrupt nature of the stop. I called the dealership, and they were not sure what caused it but informed me that I should wait until it does it again before bringing it in to be recalibrated.
CMBS braking malfunction. The car will brake on its own at highway speeds due to thinking you were going to crash when there are no other objects or vehicles in the roadway. Issue has become more frequent and I have found many forums and articles online of people with these issues, but my car Cannot be fixed, the dealer has no idea what to do. i’ve had this issue since my car only had 18,000 miles on it last year. It is going to cause a crash. At times it brakes to the point where I am almost stopped on the highway.
Driving along highway at highway speeds, the automatic braking system indicated 'BRAKE' in the center dash when there was no object in front of me. The vehicle did _not_ auto brake, but that was obviously the next step/possible if it continued to malfunction (actually brake the vehicle).
The infotainment screen starts glitching out on extended trips. It constantly beeps and flashes on the screen as of a button is being pressed. It also will not allow you to turn the system off to remove the distraction. This happened on a trip to Chattanooga in July 2022 and was 'fixed' with a software update. It happened again on [XXX]. Air conditioner start to blow warm air while parked i noticed the recall the dealer rick case wanted $1500 just to fix it if the seal was not it, but seeing all the same issues coming up with other owners makes me wonder if the dealer even though they know what’s wrong still they want to upcharge clients.
On Wednesday, [XXX], the sunroof glass of my 2019 Honda Cr-V Ex spontaneously exploded while driving on the highway. There was a startling loud sound that rendered me shocked while driving! It caused me to take my eyes off the road to look around my vehicle and in the rear-view mirror to see what had happened. Nothing hit the vehicle! Luckily, there were no other vehicles nor pedestrians nearby. I maintained staying in my lane, but I was completely distracted by the sound, this could have been dangerous! Also luckily, the interior sunroof shade was closed or I'd have been showered in broken glass. The service manager at the dealer I called, Greensboro Honda, said "I'm not going to lie, I have heard of this happening before". There are many reports of this happening online and, according to news station reports, an NHTSA investigation that was closed in 2021 citing that it “has not identified sufficient evidence of a safety-related defect in the subject sunroof.” On the same day the incident occurred, my vehicle was inspected by the Service employees of Honda of Greensboro, NC. They refused to fix the problem b/c the 'Area Manager", against the recommendation of the 'Service Manager', stated that "something must have hit the vehicle". I repeatedly insisted that nothing hit the vehicle. I have filed a claim with Nationwide Insurance. Greensboro of Honda did take photos and they taped the hole in the sunroof at no charge which was kind yet suspicious since I bought this 'Certified Pre-owned" vehicle at Leith Honda of Aberdeen. The Greensboro Honda dealership is not owned by Leith. Twice, once by phone message and once via email, I requested the email, denying the issue be fixed by Honda, between the 'Service Manager' and the 'Area Manager' at Greensboro Honda be forwarded to me, to no avail. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. Note: the shape of the fractured glass hole look almost identical to others. A loud pop like a gunshot went off which was the sound of the Moonroof spontaneously shattering while driving. If this had been open then the shattered glass could have rained down on driver and passengers causing injury and/or wreck due to sharp pieces of glass.
The steering rack is malfunctioning, causing the steering wheel to have notchy feel and a clicking sound. Problem has been reproduced by independent service center. No warning lamps.
My daughter was driving my car and she noticed this terrible smell and some of the lights came on to check the engine so we took it to get looked at and they said they didn’t see anything wrong. So she was driving it and then all the lights came on and the car would not drive. We had it taken to a place to get looked at and they said they couldn’t fix it so we had to take it to Honda and they said it needed new fuel injectors and this was not cheap. I was very upset with Honda because they know this is an issue with this year and make of car but they don’t want to pay to fix it and they never fixed the recall because he said they do not have the parts until later in the year. That is ridiculous. I’ve never had any problems with Honda until now and I’ve had many Hondas. My daughter could have been hit by another car or anything could have happened. They need to pay for this $2,000 repair. Thank you
My car has been having fuel issues for the past few years. I found out some time ago that Honda recalled the fuel pump on my vehicle. Since I started having issues (well over 1 year ago) I have reached out to Honda numerous times only to be told that unless my vehicle stops driving they wont take in any other vehicle on this recall. That was fine when my vehicle was still driving. Around April 2024 my CRV stopped driving due to Fuel pump issues. I had to tow to my house. I have attempted to use the Honda location closest to my house, (Rapids Honda) Coon Rapids, MN. I have been told that they have no parts. have attempted to get me to pay for this service but when I attempt to get them to take my vehicle for the recall they will only take it if i pay. I have attempted to work with them under recall and they stated they don't have the parts. I have been hung up on and advised they would call back to only not call back. I have been waiting months with my CRV dead in my driveway with fuel pump issue.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. While driving approximately 30-60 MPH, the vehicle started to jerk. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle hesitated and shut off unintendedly. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal simultaneously for the vehicle to accelerate. The contact added fuel injector cleaner to the fuel tank. The “WRENCH” symbol was displayed. After the failure, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The passenger side seat weight sensor assembly failed. It is available for inspection. The vehicle has been inspected and repaired by a certified Honda dealer. The airbag light stayed on beginning in December 2023. The SRS warning light came on in March 2024. This defect was subject to a recall of CRV’s manufactured from 2020 to 2022. We believe the 2019 vehicles were affected also and should have been part of the recall. Honda has recognized this problem and has reimbursed us $800 of the $1758.68 of the repair bill.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle slightly hesitated to accelerate. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or local dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 58,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2019 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle, the check engine, brakes, steering, back up, and parking brake warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven 30 MPH to the service station, where an independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with fuel injector misfire. The contact stated that the vehicle drove rough while depressing the accelerator pedal. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired because the parts to repair the vehicle were on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,238.
After using the LKAS at 36,300 miles I observed stickiness in the steering wheel. I drove it for awhile but the stickiness makes it difficult to steer and could cause an accident. I took it to the dealer and now at 37,000 miles it needs a complete rack and pinion steering assembly at almost $4000 dollars. I have been driving cars since the 1970's and this is the first steering issue I have encountered. You would think that steering would be a system they have mastered by now. I also know that slightly older Honda CRV's (IE, 2018 model year) have been recalled for an issue like this due to improper heat treatment of the gears in the rack and pinion system. My guess is that the same parts in that model year are also in the 2019 model and it should b added to the recall as well. This system should not fail at only 37,000 miles.
I was driving down a road with no traffic when the sunroof shattered. I pulled over and there was a hole in the middle and it was completely cracked. No damage to any other component of the sunroof just the glass. There was nothing that impacted or fell on the sunroof. There was no prior damage to the sunroof or surrounding area. The sunroof was closed not in use at time of incident. Dealership could not find a reason for the damage but did say they had someone else go in for a sun roof randomly exploding as well.

Car stops suddenly on highway, going into, "limp mode." All dash warning lights came on. Rich emissions. VTM-4 issue. This is an ongoing issue with CR-Vs, yet manufacturer has issues no solution, clearly opting to work each situation independently. Therefore, manufacturer saves the time and money associated with these repairs.

The fuel injectors are failing at 55 to 62k miles. The car experiences a loss of steering wheel functioning components related to the driver assist, and multiple warning lights appear on the dash for a period of a few days, then they suddenly disappear. There are slight hesitations in the automobile's acceleration, and this puts my family at risk during operation. The fuel pumps in the 2019 were replaced under recall but they failed to include the fuel rail and injectors and the pump we believe may have more pressure than the rail as and injectors were designed to handle and this shortens the life cycle of the part. The dealership diagnosed this problem and acknowledges that these same components have failed on other models and have settled lawsuits by extending the warranty periods to fix the injectors on certain less popular and lower sales volume models, but did not include the 2019 CRV and we think it is because that is a more popular model that would result in much more outgoing expense. his is putting many families at risk including my [XXX] daughter and her new born son. The dealership sells the injector and fuel rail parts that need to be fixed as a kit now due to previous and existing recalls in other Honda models but Honda consumer affairs has declined any warranty assistance to repair the 2019 CRV.
