EPS FAILURE: LAST MONTH, AFTER A GAS STATION STOP; I STARTED THE CAR, TO SEE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) INDICATOR LIT. FINDING THE POWER STEERING NOT WORKING, I CHECKED THE MANUAL. TURNING THE CAR OFF & ON AS RECOMMENDED RESET THE INDICATOR AND UNLOCKED THE POWER STEERING. THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SEVERAL MORE TIMES SINCE THEN. LAST WEEK THE PROBLEM HAPPENED THREE TIMES, AND PERSISTED UNTIL I DROVE A SHORT DISTANCE. I'M WORRIED ABOUT FAILURE IN TRAFFIC, DURING A TURN, ETC. READING ONLINE, I FOUND MANY DRIVERS REPORTING THIS TROUBLE WITH BOTH OLDER AND NEWER FITS, LOW AND HIGH MILEAGE; SOMETIMES HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING. THE TROUBLE CAN OCCUR AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE ISSUE IS DETAILED IN HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN 09-043, JULY 7, 2009.
AFTER RAINFALL, WATER IS COLLECTING (AND NOT DRAINING) IN THE BACKSEAT FLOOR AREA (UNDER THE CARPET) AND ALSO IN THE REAR HATCH, WHERE THE SPARE TIRE IS LOCATED. THE RUBBER SEALS ON THE BACK DOORS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION - AND THERE ARE NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF WATER SPOTTING ON THE INSIDE OF THE BACK DOORS OR THE REAR HATCH AREA - SO IT'S DIFFICULT TO TELL WHERE THE WATER IS COMING IN FROM. I PULLED THE CARPET UP IN THE BACK SEAT AREA AND HAVE TOWELS DOWN TO ABSORB THE WATER. I ALSO HAVE THE BACK SEATS UP AND HAVE TOWELS BELOW THEM THE CONTINUE TO GET SOAKED AFTER IT RAINS. THE TOWELS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR SEEM TO COLLECT MORE WATER THAN THE DRIVER-SIDE TOWELS. I'VE READ NUMEROUS REPORTS OF SIMILAR ISSUES WITH 2007 AND 2008 HONDA FITS BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. IT'S A HEALTH HAZARD TO HAVE WATER AND DAMPNESS INSIDE A VEHICLE, WHERE MOLD COLLECTS/GROWS. I HAVE NOT TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER YET AS MOST REPORTS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE SAY THEY HAVE TAKEN THEIR CARS IN NUMEROUS TIMES WITH NO REMEDY. I'M GOING TO TRY TO INVESTIGATE WHERE THE WATER IS COMING IN ON MY OWN, BUT FROM THE STORIES I'VE READ ONLINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A REAL ISSUE WITH 2007 & 2008 FITS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY ROAD GOING 45 MPH DRIVING STRAIGHT AND MY STEERING WHEEL JERKED OUT FROM BOTH HANDS AND SWERVED ME, MY WIFE, AND OUR INFANT DAUGHTER INTO THE ONCOMING LANE. THE POWER STEERING THEN WENT OUT AND I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WE STOPPED AT A GAS STATION. UPON RESTARTING THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING CAME BACK ON. WE HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING FAIL ON US BEFORE, BUT IT HAD NEVER JERKED THE WHEEL OUT OF MY HANDS LIKE IT DID THIS TIME. IN ANOTHER INSTANCE, WE WERE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY (DRIVING STRAIGHT), AND THE EPS GAVE OUT FIRST ONE ONE SIDE, AND THEN THE OTHER, PULLING HARD ON ONE SIDE, BUT NOT PULLING THE WHEEL FROM MY HANDS. I TOOK MY HONDA FIT TO A LOCAL DEALER. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN AND A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR THIS ISSUE. I HAVE A REBUILT TITLE ON MY CAR AND THE WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER MY ISSUE. THIS SHOULD BE A FACTORY RECALL.

2007 HONDA FIT SPORT, 33,000 MILES HORN BLOWS ON ITS OWN. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES COMMENCING FEB 1, 2016. SOMETIMES IT IS BRIEF AND OTHER TIMES IT LAST A FEW SECONDS.
OCTOBER 30, 2015 10:30AM. I WAS IN THE PARKING LOT AND NEED TO BACK MY UP ABOUT 100 FEET. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, STARTED THE VEHICLE, I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE, REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE, DID NOT PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR BEGAN TO MOVE IN REVERSE, I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WITH LIGHT PRESSURE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE SPEED, AFTER A FEW SECOND THE ENGINE UNEXPECTEDLY REVVED AND ACCELERATED, I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE FIRMLY, ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV, I PLACED SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV, I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL QUICKLY RELEASED IT, THE RPM FELL TO NORMAL OPERATING IDLE. A ABOUT TWO WEEK EARLIER I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 40MPH IN STRAIGHT DIRECTION ON A 4 LANE DIVIDED CITY STREET UNDER DRY CONDITIONS AND THE ENGINE ACCELERATED. I WAS STARTLED AND INSTINCTIVELY PRESSED THE BRAKE HARD. REALIZING THIS WAS NOT GOING TO SLOW THE PROBLEM I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. THE RPM FELL TO NORMAL OPERATING IDLE. I DO NOT REMEMBER IF I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN NEUTRAL. I FINISHED MY DRIVE OF ABOUT 2 MILES TO MY HOME. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN 33,000 MILES. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER OR THE DEALER AS OF THIS WRITING.

THE LOW-BEAM LIGHTS ON MY HONDA FIT 2007 ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. AT TIMES THEY WILL WORK BUT MORE OFTEN THEN NOT, THE LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK. THE HIGH-BEAM LIGHTS ALWAYS WORK BUT THE LOW-BEAMS DO NOT. I LOOKED ONLINE FOR A RECALL USING MY VIN BUT THERE WAS NOTHING FOR THIS PROBLEM. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE I REALIZED THAT MANY 2007 HONDA FITS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM BUT FOR SOME REASON MY CAR WAS NOT. IT APPARENTLY HAS TO DO WITH THE WIRING/CONNECTOR FOR THE HEADLIGHT. IF THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT 143,083 HONDA FITS IN THE US WERE RECALLED, WHY WAS MY CAR NOT? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE HIGH BEAM HEAD LAMPS FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE VEHICLE LEAKS. WATER ACCUMULATES IN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT EVERY TIME IT RAINS.
CAN NOT OPEN DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WITH THE KEY. PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND IGNITION OK BUT CONCERNED THAT THE KEY WILL NOT WORK WITH THE OTHER DOOR/TRUNK OR IGNITION IN THE FUTURE. THE FAILURE OF THE KEY OPENING THE DRIVERS DOOR PRESENTS A SAFETY HAZARD IN THECASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE INOPERABLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED BY A PASSENGER WHO WEIGHED APPROXIMATELY 130 LBS, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V624000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
WITHOUT WARNING, SEAT FORWARD/BACK MECHANISM FAILED. LOCKING DRIVER'S SEAT IN POSITION CLOSEST TO STEERING WHEEL. EXAMINED MECHANISM UNDER SEAT AND DISCOVERED CABLE CONNECTED TO SEAT LEVER HAD FRAYED TO SINGLE WIRE. SEAT COULD NOT BE MOVED FROM POSITION. HONDA SERVICE TECHNICIAN STATED HE HAD NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM; BECAUSE CABLE WAS INTEGRAL PART OF BOTTOM SEAT FRAME, IT WAS NECESSARY TO REPLACE ENTIRE FRAME AT COST OF APPROXIMATELY 530 DOLLARS. BECAUSE DEALER DID NOT STOCK FRAME IT WAS NECESSARY TO DRIVE CAR WITH APPROXIMATELY FIVE INCHES SPACE BETWEEN STEERING WHEEL AND DRIVER'S CHEST. WHEN I CONTACTED HONDA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, I WAS INFORMED "HONDA DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS TYPE OF FAILURE TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE" AND, BECAUSE THE CARE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPAIR. I THEN POINTED OUT THE FIT'S OWNER MANUAL CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING CAUTION "SEE PAGES 11-13 FOR IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION AND WARNINGS ABOUT HOW TO PROPERLY POSITION THE SEAT AND SEAT BACKS". THE PAGES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING WARNING: "IF YOU SIT TOO CLOSE TO THE STEERING WHEEL OR DASHBOARD, YOU CAN BE SERIOUSLY INJURED BY AN INFLATING FRONT AIRBAG, OR STRIKING THE STEERING WHEEL OR DASHBOARD". THE REPRESENTATIVE REPEATED THAT HONDA DID NOT CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY MATTER. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE PASSENGER-SIDE SEAT MECHANISM (WHICH IS USED WITH APPROXIMATELY THE SAME FREQUENCY AS THE DRIVER'S SIDE) SHOWED VIRTUALLY NO SIGN OF WEAR. THERE IS NO MENTION IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL OF A NEED TO CHECK UNDER THE SEAT FOR CABLE WEAR; NOR IS SUCH INSPECTION INCLUDED IN THE DEALER'S SERVICE INSPECTION CHECKLIST. BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN NATURE OF THE FAILURE AND THE WARNINGS CONTAINED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL, IT WOULD APPEAR THIS IN FACT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE.

THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V260000 (VISIBILITY). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDOW FUSE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
WITH NO PRECIPITATING EVENT THAT WE ARE AWARE OF, THE INNER SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT WHILE WE WERE DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON US HWY 93 IN WESTERN MONTANA ON A DRY ROAD. ALL FOUR TIRES, PURCHASED AS A SET, HAD JUST UNDER 6,000 MILES ON THEM AND HAD BEEN ROTATED BY THE TIRE STORE FROM WHICH WE PURCHASED THEM JUST TWO DAYS BEFORE INCIDENT AND WERE PROPERLY INFLATED. UPON INSPECTION AFTER INCIDENT OUTER SIDEWALL LOOKS STRESSED AS IT, TOO, WAS READY TO BLOW. AS WE EXPECTED, THE TIRE DEALER HAS AGREED TO REPLACE THE TIRE. *JS
I DROVE INTO MY DRIVEWAY TO PARK IN OUR CAR PORT. AS I APPROACHED THE CAR PORT THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT IT DID NOT EVEN SLOW DOWN. THE CAR WENT OVER A 8 INCH BY 4 INCH BARRIER AT THE FRONT OF THE CAR PORT, CONTINUED TO GAIN SPEED AS IT WENT THROUGH A SMALL GARDEN, THEN IT KNOCKED DOWN OUR PRIVACY FENCE. ALL DURING THIS TIME I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE. THE CAR THEN WENT ABOUT 60 FEET THROUGH OUR NEIGHBORS YARD AND CONTINUED THROUGH THE NEXT HOUSES' PRIVACY FENCE AND WENT ANOTHER 6 FEET AND FINALLY STOPPED WHEN IT HIT THE HOUSE. THE AIR BAGS NEVER RELEASED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,125.
STANDING WATER ACCUMULATES IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL AFTER HEAVY RAIN. *TR
I JUST WANTED TO REPORT THAT THE FRONT SEATS IN MY CAR WERE DESIGNED SO POORLY THAT AFTER DRIVING OVER 3 HOURS ON A TRIP THIS WEEK IN IT MY LOWER BACK BECAME SORE. AND EVEN AFTER 3 DAYS LATER IT IS STILL SORE. I'VE OWNED PLENTY OF CARS IN MY LIFETIME AND NEVER HAVE I RUN ACROSS SEATING THAT HAS EVER LEFT ME SORE IN THEM. I'M SORRY IF THIS COMPLAINT DOESN'T BELONG HERE BUT WHEN I FILED A COMPLAINT OVER HERE HTTP://WWW.HONDAPROBLEMS.COM/TRENDS/UNCOMFORTABLE-SEATS/ THAT SITE SUGGESTED I FILE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THESE POORLY DESIGNED SEATS HERE TOO. IN FACT I'VE NOTICED PLENTY OF OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THESE SEATS TOO ON THE INTERNET. *TR
AFTER A HEAVY RAIN, THE FLOOR MATS IN THE BACK SEATS BECOME SOAKED TO THE POINT WHERE THEY DEVELOP MOLD EVEN AFTER THE WATER IS CLEANED-UP. CHILDREN SIT IN THE BACK SEAT AND ARE EXPOSED TO UNHEALTHY CONDITIONS. THE WATER SEAMS TO BE COMING FROM THE FRONT DOOR/WINDOW AREA AND IS SEEPING INTO THE INTERIOR OF THE DOOR TO THE BACK FLOOR AREA, MOSTLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. MY RESEARCH INDICATES THAT SEVERAL OTHER HONDA FIT OWNERS ALSO HAVE THAT PROBLEM. I MUST TAKE IT IN TO HAVE IT REPAIRED BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT IS A HEALTH HAZARD. BUT IT SEEMS TO BE A FLAW IN THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE THAT SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY HONDA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUG WAS LOOSE. THE MECHANIC TIGHTENED THE SPARK PLUG, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN SIX MONTHS LATER. THE CONTACT BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE SPARK PLUG HAD COMPLETELY FALLEN OUT OF ITS NORMAL HOLE AND THAT A HELI-COIL WOULD NEED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AGAIN. TWO MONTHS LATER, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANG AND NOTICED SMOKE AROUND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AGAIN. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT RE REPAIR THE SPARK PLUG AND STATED THAT A NEW CYLINDER HEAD WAS NEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL, ON A CURVE, AT ABOUT 40MPH, THE POWER STEERING LOCKED. I WAS SO CLOSE TO GETTING IN A MULTI-VEHICLE CAR ACCIDENT. USUALLY THIS EPS PROBLEM HAPPENS FIRST THING, RIGHT WHEN I START THE CAR IN THE MORNING EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND ACCORDING TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL, WHEN THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS, WE ARE SUPPOSED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. OBVIOUSLY, HONDA ACKNOWLEDGES THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE EPS, EXCEPT THIS TIME, IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENTS, INCLUDING FATALITIES. THEY SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS PART INSTEAD OF JUST DOING A SERVICE BULLETIN. GM HAS A SIMILAR PROBLEM, IF NOT THE SAME, AND THEY CARE ENOUGH ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS TO DO A RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM, RATHER THEN JUST PROVIDE A SERVICE BULLETIN. HONDA SHOULD DO THE SAME FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CLIENTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND GOING OVER A BUMP, A LOUD NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AS IT STARTED TO SHAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPLIANCE BUSHINGS, SHOCKS AND FRONT LINKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,221.
DRIVING TO WORK EARLY MORNING I HAD THE HEADLIGHTS ON AND ALL THE SUDDEN IT WAS DARK, PEOPLE WERE FLASHING THEIR LIGHTS AT ME. I HAD TO PULL OVER. THE HIGH BEAMS WOULD COME ON BUT THE LOW BEAM AND FOG LIGHTS WOULDN'T. THEY FINALLY TURNED ON AFTER A WHILE. THEY HAVE TURNED OFF BY THEIR SELF A FEW TIMES NOW. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. I DID THE RECALL THAT WAS A COUPLE YEARS AGO ABOUT HEADLIGHTS BUT I DON'T THINK THAT WAS THE FIX FOR IT IF ITS HAPPENING TO OTHERS TOO. *TR
HONDA FIT SPORT :ENGINE WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON FOR WEEKS THEN TURNS OFF UNEXPECTEDLY THEN BACK ON AGAIN SINCE ABOUT AUGUST 2014. I COMPLETED THE 120,000 MILE RECOMMENDED SERVICE AT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP NEAR WHERE I WAS AT THE TIME BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON THEN OFF AGAIN INTERMITTENTLY REGARDLESS OF THE SERVICE. NOT SURE IF IT IS RELATED TO THE ENGINE SURGE I AM WORRIED ABOUT NOW (MARCH 2015) ACCOMPANIED BY MY PADDLE SHIFTERS NOT WORKING WHILE IN D MODE. I EXPERIENCED THIS WHEN ACCELERATING AT 20MPH AND AGAIN AT 35MPH MY ENGINE HAD HIGH RPMS THE ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT SURGED AND MADE A THUD AS THOUGH THE ENGINE WOULD FALL OUT OF MY CAR. I WAS REALLY NERVOUS TO CONTINUE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC AS EACH TIME I ACCELERATED IT HAPPENED AGAIN AT 20 MPH. AT MY DESTINATION FOR TWO HOURS I THEN DROVE HOME WITH SOME HILLS AND WINDING ROADS AND PUT MY CAR IN S MODE TO SEE IF PADDLE SHIFTERS WOULD WORK OR RESET IN SOME MANNER, WHICH IT DID START WORKING. THE SURGING CEASED TO HAPPEN IN S MODE SO I DECIDED TO SHIFT INTO D MODE TO SEE IF PADDLE SHIFTERS WOULD WORK PROPERLY AND THEY DID AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME FORTY MINUTES. THE ORANGE ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON AND PADDLE SHIFTERS SEEM TO BE WORKING IN BOTH S AND D MODE NOW WONDERING WHAT TO GET CHECKED OUT. SINCE I SPENT ALL THAT MONEY ON THE MAJOR SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE CAR SHOULD WORK WELL FOR THE NEXT 150,000 IT'S NOW NEAR 148,000 MILES I WANT TO KNOW WHETHER I CAN COUNT ON THE PADDLE SHIFTERS OR IF THEY WILL FAIL ME AGAIN. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT USUALLY TURNS OFF ONCE I GET AN OIL CHANGE AND RESET IT HAS REMAINED ON. I DON'T KNOW IF A DIAGNOSTIC WILL REVEAL ANYTHING OR IF I SHOULD JUST GET THE PADDLE SHIFTERS CHECKED. I USE THE PADDLE SHIFTERS A GREAT DEAL WHILE IN D MODE OVER THE PAST EIGHT YEARS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT NEW I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND ONLY PERSON DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT. CAR WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND THE STEERING WORK. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL. *TR

POWER STEERING FAILED AS LEAVING WORK. STARTING CAR HAS BEEN A RECENT ISSUE SINCE THE STARTER IS HAVING PROBLEMS BUT THE POWER STEERING FAILING THE ONLY SOLUTION HAS TO BEEN TO RESTART THE CAR. IN THIS CASE NOT POSSIBLE SINCE I COULD NOT GET THE CAR TO RESTART. *TR
MY ENGINE COILS WERE MISFIRING AND THE CAR SHUDDERED. I HAD THE COIL THAT WAS MISFIRING REPLACED, HOWEVER NOW A SECOND COIL IS MISFIRING. *TR
REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LEAKS WATER EVERY TIME IT RAINS. SAFETY CONCERNS ARE MOLD GROWTH ON CARPETING, BODY RUST FROM EXPOSURE TO WATER, SEATS HAVE ALSO GOTTEN WET WHEN FOLDED DOWN INTO FOOT AREA (MORE MOLD), WINDOWS FOG UP BECAUSE OF EXTRA HUMIDITY IN THE VEHICLE (IMPAIRING VISIBILITY), AND COULD POTENTIALLY ALSO BE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FROM EXTRA HUMIDITY. HAVE ALSO FOUND WATER IN SPARE TIRE WELL IN BACK OF CAR, BUT I'M NOT SURE WHERE THIS ENTERED THE CAR. UPON RESTARTING THE CAR AFTER A REST STOP THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOTED TO BE UPSIDE DOWN. IT COULD BE TURNED 360 OR MORE DEGREES WHEN THE CAR WAS NOT MOVING. THE STEERING WORKED WHEN THE CAR WAS MOVING, BUT AT A STOP IT MAY BE TURNED FREELY AGAIN. *TR
THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE DEVELOPED OVERNIGHT. IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS NOW. MY HONDA DOES NOT HAVE A KEYLESS ENTRY, THEREFORE, I UNLOCK MY CAR BY JUST INSERTING MY KEY INTO THE DOOR HANDLE. HOWEVER, ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO, I CAME OUT TO UNLOCK MY CAR AND WAS ONLY ABLE TO STICK MY KEY IN THE DOOR LOCK. THE KEY WOULD NO LONGER TURN. AT FIRST, THIS ISSUE WAS ONLY WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE LOCK; HOWEVER, IT NOW INCLUDES BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE LOCKS. FROM WHAT I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE ISSUE, IT SEEMS THAT THE CYLINDER COMPONENT OF BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE EXTERIOR DOOR LOCKS IS TO BLAME. IN MY RESEARCH, I CAME ACROSS SEVERAL FORUMS (MOST OF THEM BEING HONDA FORUMS) IN WHICH OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME 2007 BASE MODELS OF HONDA FITS INCLUDING THE 08' FITS. I DID TAKE IT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM CHECK OUT THE ISSUE. THEY DID CONFIRM THAT IT WAS THE CYLINDER THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THEY STATED THAT THE CAUSE MAY HAVE BEEN SOMEONE ATTEMPTING TO JAM SOMETHING INTO MY CAR DOOR LOCK IN ORDER TO BREAK IN. ALTHOUGH THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A POSSIBLE CAUSE, I FEEL THAT IF SEVERAL OTHERS WITH THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR OF HONDA ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE THEN IT ISN'T SOMETHING SPECIFIC TO MY HONDA OR THAT SOMEONE WAS MERELY TRYING TO BREAK IN. IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. THE ONLY WAY I AM ABLE TO ENTER MY CAR AT THE MOMENT IS THROUGH THE TRUNK. IF MY KEY STOPS WORKING FOR THAT LOCK THEN I HAVE NO WAY TO GET INTO MY CAR. WATER IS LEAKING INTO TRUNK SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT AND FLOOR UNDERNEATH REAR SEATS, ESPECIALLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. TOOK CAR TO DEALER FOR REPAIR IN THE MORNING, LEFT FOR ENTIRE DAY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE SOURCE OF THE WATER LEAK. DEALER TOLD ME I WOULD NEED TO BRING BACK THE CAR FOR FURTHER TESTING THAT COULD TAKE A FEW HOURS AND AT LEAST $300. I CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP TAKING IN THE CAR FOR THE ENTIRE DAY, PAYING A LOT OF MONEY AND NOT EVEN HAVE A GUARANTEE THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED. I HAVE TRIED TO SEAL A CRACK I FOUND IN THE ROOF SEAM (BASED ON INFORMATION I COULD FIND ONLINE OF OTHER OWNERS WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM). THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THE DEALER FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO EVEN DO THAT! *TR
WATER LEAKED INTO THE SPARE TIRE AREA CAUSING THE ENTIRE BACKSEAT FLOOR AREA TO BE SATURATED WITH WATER CAUSING MOLD AND RUST. THE DEALER HAD TO SEAM SEAL THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF ROOF. REAR TAIL LIGHT GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE WATER WAS ALSO COMING IN THROUGH THE AREA. *TR
VEHICLE LEAKS WATER THAT ACCUMULATES IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL. DEALER SAID THE FIXED IT BUT STILL LEAKS. HONDA CLAIMS UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES ALTHOUGH MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FOUND ON-LINE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WATER IS LEAKING AND CAUSING RUST IN THE CAVITY WHERE THE SPARE TIRE SITS. ACCORDING TO ONLINE RESEARCH, THIS IS COMMON IN THE 2007-2008 HONDA FIT. THE WATER RUNS DOWN ALONG THE INSIDE PANELS AND POOLS IN THE SPARE TIRE CAVITY. THIS HAS CAUSED THE SPARE TIRE AND JACK TO BECOME COMPLETELY CORRODED AND RUSTED. WATER THEN SPILLS FROM THAT CAVITY TO THE FOOT SPACE OF THE BACK SEAT. THE CARPET BECOMES WATER LOGGED. THE SEATS, WHEN FOLDED DOWN, BECOME WET. THE SUPPORTS FOR THE SEATS ARE RUSTED. *TR
I STARTED THE CAR AND NOTICED THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS ON. I TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND THEN READ ONLINE THAT I SHOULD TRY RESTARTING THE CAR. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS STILL ON. WAS SOMEHOW ABLE TO MAKE IT BACK HOME. TURNED OFF THE IGNITION PER CAR MANUAL, RESTART CAR AND TROUBLE CLEARED (NO MORE WARNING LITE, STEERING OK). DID SOME RESEARCH ON WEB, FOUND OUT THAT HONDA HAS ISSUED SERVICE BULLETIN 09-043 TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT (IE. REPLACE EPS CONTROL MODULE). WENT TO INDEPENDENT HONDA REPAIR SHOP, NO TROUBLE CODES FOUND ON THEIR SCOPE (CLEARS OUT AFTER RESTART). CALLED HONDA CUST SERVICE (800-999-1009), BUT WAS TOLD THAT SINCE IT'S OUT OF THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD, AND NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I JUST TOOK MY CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER TO HAVE THE EPS MODULE REPLACED ($700 + LABOR), SINCE I DO NOT WANT TO RISK DRIVING KNOWING THAT THE STEERING CAN GO OUT AT ANY MOMENT. I'M HOPING THAT NHTSA CAN PUT PRESSURE ON HONDA TO ISSUE A RECALL AS THIS PROBLEM CAN BE LIFE THREATENING, ESPECIALLY IF THE EPS WENT OUT ON A CURVE OR MOUNTAIN ROAD. SINCE LATE 2013 (APPROX. 75,000 MILES), THE ENGINE FUNCTIONS ERRATICALLY AND ALL CYLINDERS HAVE ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS REGISTERED ENGINE MISFIRES, RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE DYING UNEXPECTEDLY - ONCE NEARLY LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT WHEN IT DIED AS I PULLED OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I HAVE TRIED - UNSUCCESSFULLY, USING TWO DIFFERENT MECHANICS OVER NEARLY THREE YEARS - TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, BUT IT PERSISTS, DESPITE SWAPPING ENGINE COILS IN AND OUT, ADJUSTING THE IDLE, AND OTHER PROPOSED (BUT UNSUCCESSFUL) SOLUTIONS. SOMETIMES THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT COMES ON, AT LEAST GIVING ME SOME WARNING, BUT OFTEN IT DOES NOT. THE PROBLEM MAINLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS FIRST TURNED ON AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE, BUT IT IS UNPREDICTABLE: OCCASIONALLY THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC, AFTER IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A WHILE. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM CONTINUES, AND ENDANGERS MY SAFETY, I WENT ONLINE TO SEEK HELP, AND UNCOVERED MANY OTHER HONDA FIT OWNERS PLAGUED BY THIS SAME ISSUE, WHO HAD LOGGED THEIR COMPLAINTS AT WWW.FITFREAK.NET, SO I KNOW THIS IS NOT A FLUKE; IT'S A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA FIT.
