2007 HONDA FIT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH RECALL NOTICE AND SEEKS REIMBURSEMENT FOR REPAIRS. *SMD
ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK, SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING OUR HOME, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY ROUGH AND STARTED TO SHAKE THE CAR VIOLENTLY THROUGH A TURN AND THE EPS MALFUNCTION INDICATOR CAME ON. SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND THE ISSUE REMEDIED ITSELF AND THE EPS LIGHT TURNED OFF. THIS PAST WEEKEND, AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR, THE SAME ISSUE PRESENTED ITSELF. THIS TIME, HOWEVER, THE UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING CAUSED ME TO VEER INTO OPPOSING TRAFFIC. LUCKILY, OTHER DRIVERS IN THE OPPOSING LANE WERE ABLE TO RESPOND QUICKLY AND AVERT AN ACCIDENT. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE, INCLUDING ON POPULAR HONDA-SPECIFIC FORUMS, WHICH I AM A MEMBER OF, SUCH AS HONDA-TECH.COM AND FITFREAK.NET, AS WELL AS GENERAL AUTO FORUMS SUCH AS ON EDMUNDS.COM. IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AMONG OWNERS OF HONDA FITS, WITH SOME OWNERS STATING THAT THIS OCCURS 1-2 TIMES A MONTH. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND HONDA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 09-043, STATING SYMPTOMS OF 'THE STEERING FEELS HEAVIER THAN NORMAL,' A EUPHEMISM FOR THE POWER STEERING FAILING'A VERY DANGEROUS OCCURRENCE, WHICH I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT HONDA DID NOT ISSUE A FULL SAFETY RECALL FOR, AND WHICH WE HAD TO FIND OUT THE HARD/DANGEROUS WAY THAT THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH OUR VEHICLE. *TR
AROUND JUNE 30, 2011, SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE CAR, THE POWER STEERING CAUTION LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED LEAVING THE CAR WITH NO STEERING CAPABILITIES. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON, THE POWER STEERING RETURNED TO ITS NORMAL OPERATION. THIS SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AROUND JULY 4, 2011, ON JULY 19, 2011, JULY 22, 2011, AND JULY 25, 2011, ALL SHORTLY AFTER STARTING THE CAR. THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED BY APPLETREE HONDA AND THEY REPORTED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWERING STEERING UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF NEARLY $900.00 AT OUR EXPENSE DUE TO THE EXPIRED WARRANTY. THEY BASED THIS DIAGNOSED PARTIALLY ON A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN #09-043. WHEN THE POWERING STEERING FAILS, ALL VEHICLE OPERATIONS REMAIN ACTIVE, THE CAR IS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER, THUS CAUSING A SAFETY HAZARD NOT ONLY TO THE PASSENGERS OF THE FIT, BUT ALSO TO OTHER MOTORISTS ON THE ROAD. AFTER CONTACTING HONDA, THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO EXCEPT REPLACE IT AT OUR COST.
2007 HONDA FIT POWER STEERING STOPPED FUNCTIONING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING OPERATED. *TR
INTERMITTENT DISPLAY OF AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. ACCORDING TO DEALER THERE IS A BREAK IN THE STEERING WHEEL 'CABLE REEL' THAT CONNECTS THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG (AS WELL AS THE HORN AND THE CRUISE CONTROL). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL FOUR DOORS WERE RUSTING FROM THE INTERIOR TO THE EXTERIOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE FAILURE AND STATED THEY BELIEVED THAT THE METAL WAS NOT TREATED PROPERLY WHEN MANUFACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
MY HONDA WAS IN A 2010 RECALL FOR DOOR PANEL WIRING FAILURE. A HEAT SHIELD WAS INSTALLED. THIS YEAR THE DOOR PANEL MELTED A LITTLE OVER A MONTHS TIME. HONDA HAD ME BRING IN MY CAR,SAID THEY WOULD TAKE PICTURES AND CONSULT WITH HONDA ENGINEERS. THEIR CONCLUSION: MUST HAVE BEEN VANDALISM BY CIGARETTE LIGHTER OR SOMETHING STRANGE AS THE HEAT SHIELD WAS FINE AND THERE IS NO WIRING IN THE DOOR THAT OPERATES WINDOWS, LOCKS OR SPEAKERS (WHERE THE MELTS ARE). IF I PURCHASE A NEW DOOR PANEL FOR $250.00 THEY WILL DO THE LABOR FOR FREE. THEY SAY THERE ARE NO OTHER COMPLAINTS, EVER. NOT ONE PERSON WHO HAS SEEN THE PANEL BELIEVES IT.
WE REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS & AIR FILTER ON OUR 2007 HONDA FIT ABOUT A MONTH AGO AND RIGHT AFTER REPLACING THESE ITEMS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO WE HAD A MECHANIC PULL THE CODE & HE STATED THAT ONE OF THE SPARK PLUGS WAS LOOSE SO IT WAS TIGHTEN & THE LIGHT WENT OFF. NOW THE LIGHT IS BACK ON SO WE TOOK IT TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP & WAS INFORMED THAT WE NEED TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER & THAT IT IS NOT COVERED ON OUR WARRANTY. WE DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A CATALYTIC CONVERTER COULD HAVE ALREADY GONE BAD. HONDA IS WANTING US TO PAY THEM OVER $1,300 TO REPLACE IT.... WE BELIEVE THIS TO BE A RIP OFF AND NEED SOME ANSWERS!!! WE ARE STILL MAKING MONTHLY PAYMENTS ON THIS VEHICLE & NOW THEY WANT US TO SPEND THAT KIND OF MONEY ON A REPAIR THAT IS NOT OUR FAULT. I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP & TELLING THEM TO KEEP IT! *TR
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING DOESN'T WORK. *TR
APPROXIMATELY 10% OF THE TIME MY 2007 HONDA FIT IS FIRST STARTED, THE POWER BRAKES DO NOT FUNCTION AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE CAR. WITHIN 30 SECONDS OF STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKES SEEM TO WORK NORMALLY. *TR
LOSS OF POWER STEERING. IT WAS PARKED THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, IN 2011. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN FOR A COUPLE YEARS. NOW IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 24 HOURS, ON 06/10/2014. MOSTLY WHILE PARKED/IDLE. ONCE WHILE IN TRAFFIC. I LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS ON A WINDY ROAD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS! HONDA SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. I HAVE READ ABOUT THEIR SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE ISSUE (REPLACING EPS CONTROL UNIT.) *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. WHILE DRIVING ANY SPEED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF THE ENGINE WAS ROTATING AND THE ENGINE RESPONDED AS IF THE VEHICLE WERE GOING TO STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS;HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 96,000. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 08/01/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE CONSTANTLY MISFIRES AND THERE IS CONSTANT SPEED STUTTER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM BEGAN AFTER THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE.
FINDING WATER BUILDUP IN THE FRONT DRIVE FLOORBOARDS OF MY 2007 HONDA FIT. GENERALLY THIS HAPPENS AFTER RAINSTORMS WITH SIGNIFICANT DOWNPOUR AND I DIDNT NOTICE THIS BECAUSE LATELY WEATHER'S BEEN PRETTY GOOD. NOW I'M FINDING THE WET SPOT WITH MOLD TO GO ALONG WITH IT AS WELL UNDERNEATH THE FOAM PIECE UNDERNEATH THE CARPET. OTHERS HAVE HELPED ME TRACE IT TO MY DOOR SEALS AND THERE IS MUCH MOLD GROWTH UNDERNEATH, SO EVEN BEFORE I DISCOVERED THIS IT MUST HAVE HAPPENED BEFORE BUT IN LESSER DEGREE. I FEEL AS THIS SHOULD NOT BE A WARRANTY ONLY FIX BY HONDA AND THAT THE DOOR SEALS AND CARPETS SHOULD BE REPLACED AS A RESULT. GROWTH OF MOLD IN A CAR WHICH YOU'RE DRIVING IN EVERYDAY CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO ANYONE'S HEALTH. *TR
FRONT VEHICLE CARPET BENEATH GAS/BRAKE PEDALS HAS WORKED LOOSE. IT IS CURLED UP AND MAY POSE A RISE TO BRAKING ACCELERATING PEDALS, I WILL CONTACT HONDA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THE DRIVER'S LEFT FOOT TENDS TO GET CAUGHT IN THE CARPET AND THERE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A SIMPLE FIX FOR THIS. THE PLASTIC RUNNERS ON THE FLOORBOARD AT THE DOOR CAN'T BE LIFTED TO REPAIR THIS BECAUSE THE HOOD RELEASE HANDLE IS INCORPORATED INTO THEM. *TR
2007 HONDA FIT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS REPAIR ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE RECENTLY LEARNED THE RECALL WAS NOT PERFORMED PROPERLY. THE PROVIDED PHOTOS THAT SHOWED A DAMAGED WIRE AND A BURNT RECEIVER THAT THE WIRE WAS PLUGGED INTO AND IT WAS ALSO MISSING A PART THAT WAS NEVER PUT IN. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR FLOORBOARD CONTINUED TO BECOME SATURATED WITH WATER WHENEVER IT WOULD RAIN. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF MOLD GROWING IN THE VEHICLE. EVERY MORNING WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 40 DEGREES I HAVE NO POWER STEERING MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE THE CAR. IT IS A 2007 HONDA FIT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN HE NOTICED THAT THE HIGH BEAMS WOULD FLICKER ON AND OFF INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICED THE VERY SAME DAY THE FAILURE OCCURRED (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V624000, -EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:HIGH/LOW BEAM DIMMER) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. AFTER THE RECALL REPAIRS WAS PERFORMED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE ENGAGED THE ACCELERATOR, THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE AND THE LOW BEAMS WOULD SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC AT A COST OF $98.00. HE THEN CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT THEY PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED HE CAN ONLY DRIVE THE VEHICLE DURING THE DAY BECAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,800 AND THE CURRENT APPROXIMATE MILEAGE WAS 42,600.
I WAS DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE POWER STEERING FAILED. AT THE SAME TIME THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO SAFETY INTO A PARKING LOT. I SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND THE POWER STEERING FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. SOMEONE WITH LESS ARM STRENGTH MAY NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MANEUVER TO SAFETY. THIS PROBLEM HAS REOCCURRED TWICE SINCE THEN.
WHILE APPLYING THE FOOT BRAKE TO STOP VEHICLE IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED & WOULD NOT STOP UNTIL THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS APPLIED. MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 12,000 & YEAR WAS 2009 . THERE WAS A RECURRENCE FEB. 16 ,2011..MILEAGE ABOUT 20,000. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 2011 HONDA FIT IN THE HIGHWAY A SMALL PEBBLE HIT LOWER DRIVER SIDE OF FRONT WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK (CRACK IS ABOUT 20 INCHES LONG). WINDSHIELD MAY BE TOO THIN OR DEFECTIVE, BECAUSE UNDER REGULAR CIRCUMSTANCES THE WINDSHIELD WOULDN'T CRACK (SMALL PEBBLES USUALLY CHIP THE WINDSHIELD), I DID AN INTERNET SEARCH TO FIND OUT IF THERE WERE ANY PUBLIC CONCERNS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL (HONDA FIT) AND I FOUND OUT THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS TYPE OF ISSUE COULD POTENTIALLY BE A SAFETY HAZARD WHILE DRIVING, PARTICULARLY IF THE OBJECT HITTING THE WINDSHIELD IS BIGGER THAN A PEBBLE; CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK, THEREFORE REDUCING VISIBILITY TO THE DRIVER.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED. THE CONTACT TRIED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE BUT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. THE CONTACT TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT; THE POWER STEERING RESET ITSELF. 2007 HONDA FIT BASE WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION IN FLORIDA,THE PROBLEM FIRST APPEARED AFTER THE THE VEHICLE REACHED THE 30,000-35,000 MILE MARK AND CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. WHEN THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS LESS THAN 75 DEGREES F AND THE ENGINE HAS NOT REACHED NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE THE ENGINE WILL STALL EVERY TIME THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, THIS BEHAVIOR CONTINUES UNTIL THE VEHICLE REACHES NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO SEVERAL HONDA DEALERSHIPS OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AS NO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES ARE REGISTERED. IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SAFELY MERGE WITH TRAFFIC AS THE ENGINE STALLS WHENEVER THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED AND NO POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTIONED. THE BULB HAD BEEN REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V624000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:HIGH/LOW BEAM DIMMER SWITCH ) AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED FOR THE CURRENT LOWBEAM FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
IN DECEMBER AFTER A HEAVY RAIN, THE DRIVE SIDE DOOR LOCK BECAME INOPERABLE - THE KEY COULD NOT BE INSERTED. I TOOK IT TO MY HONDA DEALER WHO CHARGED ME $220 TO RE-KEY THE LOCK. ON JANUARY 18, 2011 WE HAD ANOTHER HEAVY RAIN AND THE SAME THING OCCURRED. I WILL BE TAKING IT BACK TO THE HONDA DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I WILL DEMAND THAT THIS REPAIR BE FREE OF CHARGE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE LOCKS THAT LETS WATER INTO THE LOCK AND RUINS IT DURING A HEAVY RAIN.
THIS SPRING,WE NOTICED THE FLOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS WET,VISIBLE PUDDLES IN THE BACKSEAT AREA AND WATER IN THE SPARE TIRE AREA.WE ALWAYS HAVE THE WINDOWS CLOSED,THE KIDS ALWAYS KNOCK SNOW OFF THEIR BOOTS AND WE HAVE SNOW MATS,SO THERE IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR.WE EASILY REMOVED A GALLON OUT OF THE BACK AREA WITH A SHAMWOW,BUT NOW THE MOLDY SMELL IS STARTING UP AND THE CAR ALWAYS HAS CONDENSATION INSIDE ON THE WINDOWS.WE GOT THE FLOORS FAIRLY DRY A WEEK AGO,AND SAT THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WHILE IT RAINED. LO AND BEHOLD,PUDDLES AGAIN!! THE DEALERSHIP SAYS "SORRY,YOUR PAST 3YEARS/60000"AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY"HONDA PLUS"DOESN'T COVER WATER LEAKS. HONDA CANADA SAYS GO PAY FOR AN INSPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP"THEN WE'LL TRY TO HELP YOU OUT"THIS CAR IS NOT YET 4 YEARS OLD AND IT SOAKS UP WATER LIKE A SPONGE.I 'M NOT SHELLING OUT A SINGLE PENNY FOR THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT.
STARTED NOTICING THAT WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE BACK FLOOR BOARD OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INVESTIGATION NOTICED CONSIDERABLE AMOUNTS OF WATER UNDER THE SPARE TIRE. I HAVE NOTICED THE MOLD GROWING IN THE CARPET AND HAVE CLEANED THIS UP TWICE. THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER (JOHNSON CITY HONDA) SAYS THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM IN THE PAST. THIS OCCURS EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN IN THE RAIN. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY THE LOCAL DEALER. *TR
I'VE HAD THIS ISSUE NUMEROUS TIMES OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. WHEN THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS BELOW APPROXIMATELY 45 DEGREES F, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE RELAY MAKES A STRANGE CLICKING BUZZING SOUND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ENGINE STARTS. THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS VERY STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MOVE. THE CONDITION CAN BE REMEDIED BY TURNING THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION, WAITING A FEW SECONDS AND TRYING AGAIN, ALTHOUGH THIS CYCLE MAY HAVE TO BE REPEATED A DOZEN TIMES BEFORE THE POWER STEERING COMES BACK ON. DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ACTIVE IS DANGEROUS AS IT'S OBVIOUS THE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED TO BE HIGHLY ASSISTED. YOU COULD FIND YOURSELF IN A SITUATION WHERE YOU ARE STRANDED BY THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY IT'S A COMMON ONE, SO MUCH SO THAT HONDA HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR IT WHICH CALLS FOR REPLACING THE EPS MODULE AT A COST OF $700+. LUCKILY I HAVEN'T HAD IT FAIL WHILE DRIVING BUT I'M AFRAID IT COULD AS IT HAS FOR OTHERS. IT'S OBVIOUS WITH THE FREQUENCY OF THIS ISSUE THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT IN THE EPS MODULE WHICH SHOULD WARRANT A RECALL. *TR
MY CAR HAS LEAKED FOR 4 YEARS NOW (THREE YEARS AFTER I BOUGHT IT, USED, I NOTICED THE LEAK). IT'S THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT AND BACK DOORS THAT LEAK. I'M PRETTY SURE THE RUBBER SEALS THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE DOORS SHUT ARE LEAKING, BUT I CAN'T FIND IT. I JUST FEEL MISTING MOISTURE COMING FROM SOMEWHERE WHEN IT'S POURING OUT AND I'M DRIVING, AND THE CARPET IS SOAKED THROUGH WHEN IT RAINS. IT TAKES DAYS TO DRY OUT. I THOUGHT THE "DOOR PANEL LEAK" RECALL WAS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF IT, BUT I THINK THEY JUST SEALED THE COMPONENTS IN THE DOOR AGAINST A KNOWN LEAK. I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM; I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT ALL I FOUND WAS OTHER PEOPLE WITH MOLDY CARPETS AND LEAKING DOORS. I KEEP A TOWEL ON THE FLOOR AT ALL TIMES, BUT NOW MY SEAT IS WET AND IT SMELLS MUSTY IN THE CAR ALL THE TIME. A ROLL OF PAPERTOWELS WILL GET COMPLETELY WATERLOGGED IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES ON THE FLOOR AT ANYTIME. I HAVE NEVER, EVER HAD A WET CAR LIKE THIS. IT'S LIKE THE WINDOW IS ALWAYS CRACKED, BUT THE WINDOWS ARE OPERATING JUST FINE. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT IT, AND THEY TRIED TO SELL ME A $400 "FIND THE LEAK" PACKAGE THAT I COULDN'T AFFORD.

DURING THE RAIN THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT GOT FLOODED; THIS CAUSED RUST FORMATION ON THE JACK, GROWTH OF THE MOLD AND EXTREME FOGGING OF THE WINDOWS. THE LEAK IS MOST PROBABLY CAUSED BY THE REAR DOOR TO BODY SEAL FAILURE. *TR

THEN THE NEXT DAY NOTICED SMOKE IN ADDITION OF ELECTRICAL & PLASTIC BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE OPENING OF THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. SAME NIGHT TURNED ON THE HEADLIGHTS AND COULD HEAR A FRYING NOISE FROM THE AROUND THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE WHO HAD THIS PROBLEM THE NEXT DAY ON MY WAY TO THE HONDA DEALER THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING (FOGS TOO), ONLY THE POSITION/BRAKE LIGHTS AND HIGH BEAMS WERE WORKING. FIRST DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHORT FRIED BOTH HEADLIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME THEN AFTER 3 HOURS LATER THE HONDA TECHNICIAN FOUND A MELTED WIRE CONNECTOR AND WIRE HARNESS ATTACHED TO THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH. $400 OF REPAIRS WITH PARTS. DEALER HAD HARNESS IN STOCK BECAUSE THE HARNESS IS THE SAME THAT WAS BEING FIXED BY THE RECALL FOR THE CIVIC FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE NIGHT WHEN MY LOWBEAMS WENT OUT. I PULLED OVER AND TRIED MANY THINGS WITH NO LUCK. MY HIGH BEAMS STILL WORKED SO I DROVE HOME USING THOSE. I HAVE, FOR NOW, FIXED MINE WITH THE APPLICATION OF SILICONE GREASE TO THE CONTACTS BUT DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THIS FIX WILL LAST. I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS MIGHT GO OUT SOME TIME WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK AND CAUSE ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. GIVEN THAT A NUMBER OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVE POSTED ON THE INTERNET THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, I THINK ITS WORTH LOOKING AT A POSSIBLE RECALL. I HAD RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON ISSUE ON MY MODEL AND YEAR AND THAT AN INVESTIGATION WAS PUT IN MOTION. I BROUGHT THIS INFORMATION IN THE FORM OF PRINTOUTS TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER WHEN I BROUGHT MY CAR TO BE REPAIRED. MY HONDA DEALER CHARGED ME AN $80 "DIAGNOSTIC FEE" TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME THAT THE WIRING IN A HARNESS TO THE LOW BEAM SWITCH HAD FAILED DUE TO "CORROSION AND MELTING WIRE FROM OVERHEATING" THEY RESPONDED THAT IT WOULD BE NECESSARY TO REWIRE THE HARNESS CONNECTOR AND REPLACE THE SWITCH TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AN ALMOST $300 DOLLAR REPAIR. WHEN I CONFRONTED THEM ABOUT THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM OR DESIGN FLAW IN THE VEHICLE THEY RESPONDED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT AND REQUIRED THE FULL PRICE OF THE WORK. AT THE TIME OF BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, A THURSDAY, THEIR "WIRING TECH WAS NOT AVAILABLE AND PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE THAT DAY AND TO BRING THE CAR BACK ON THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY FORCING ME TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH THE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PRACTICE OF USING MY HIGH BEAMS ONLY AS I HAVE NO OTHER CAR AND MY JOB REQUIRES ME TO DRIVE HOME AT NIGHT OFTEN. *TR
