TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING FAILED INTERMITTENTLY WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED OVER NIGHT. THERE IS ALSO NO POWER STEERING AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAS TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTART IT TO RESET ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THERE ARE NO RELATED RECALLS ON THIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT REQUESTED THAT THE MANUFACTURER WOULD AUTHORIZE A GOODWILL REPAIR FOR HIS VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. UPDATED 01/19/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE EPS LIGHT STAYS ON. AND THE ONLY WAY IT GOES OUT, IS IF THE CONSUMER SHUTS THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. KNOWLEDGE OF FAILURE OF RIGHT AXLE LIFT BEARING ON 1 2007 HONDA FIT SPEED, AND 2008 HONDA FIT SPEED (2). DEALER UNWILLING TO RECTIFY PROBLEM. THE 07 HAS 44,000 MILES, 08S HAVE 33000 AND 35000 RESPECTIVELY. *TR
THE 2007 HONDA FIT HAS DEFECTIVE DOOR SEALS IN AT LEAST THE FRONT TWO DOORS AND THE TRUNK LEADING TO BLACK MOLD AND RESULTING HEALTH CONCERNS. WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED ON ANY KIND IF INCLINE AND IT RAINS, WATER ENTERS THE CAR VIA THE DEFECTIVE DOOR SEALS AND SOAKS INTO THE REAR CARPETS CAUSING EXTENSIVE MOLD DAMAGE TO THE CARPETS AND SEALS. WATER ALSO FILLS THE REAR SPARE TIRE WELL. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME THE CAR IS PARKED IN THE RAIN. I HAVE PERSONALLY EXPERIENCED THIS WITH MY 2007 HONDA FIT, AND THERE ARE MANY OTHER HONDA FIT OWNERS REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE EITHER IN PERSON OR ONLINE. IN THE US HONDA DO NOT ADMIT IT IS AN ISSUE, DESPITE VARIOUS HONDA DEALERS IDENTIFYING THE PROBLEM. IN EUROPE AND JAPAN HONDA HAVE ATTEMPTED REMEDY WITH THE HONDA JAZZ - VIRTUALLY THE SAME CAR. THIS LEAK HAS CAUSED ME BREATHING DIFFICULTIES AND OTHER PHYSICAL SIDE EFFECTS. IT HAS REDUCED THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE AND IS A DANGER TO MY PREGNANT WIFE AND MY UNBORN CHILD. DESPITE MY AND OTHERS EFFORTS TO BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF HONDA USA, THEY HAVE IGNORED ALL ATTEMPTS AND WILL NOT OFFER ME ANY ASSISTANCE. I HAVE WASTED A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF MONEY TRYING TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE THROUGH HONDA. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED FOR THIS ISSUE. IT WOULD BE THE FOURTH ISSUED FOR THIS CAR, AND TWO OF THE PREVIOUS RECALLS ARE LINKED TO WATER LEAKS OR WATER DAMAGE. THERE IS CLEARLY A SERIOUS RELATED DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING WITH THE FIRST FIVE YEARS OF THIS MODEL'S LIFESPAN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED IN AUGUST OF 2009 THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THE CONDENSER FAILED AND FREON WAS LEAKING. A FEW MONTHS LATER THE AIR CONDITIONER FAILED TO OPERATE AND THE CONTACT WAS AGAIN INFORMED THAT THE CONDENSER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND LOCK LIGHT IS ON WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING. I TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTART THE CAR AND IT THEN CLEARS IT. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AT OTHER PEOPLES BLOGS AND HAVE COME ACROSS A FEW OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. IT HASN'T CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BUT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT IT. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS BACKING UP OUR HONDA FIT IN THE DRIVEWAY. HE PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND WHILE HE WAS BACKING UP IT MADE A TERRIBLE GRINDING SOUND. HE PUT HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THEN PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE. BEFORE HE EVEN MOVED HIS FOOT OVER TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE CAR ACCELERATED SO FAST THAT IT LEFT SKID MARKS ON THE DRIVEWAY. HE PUT HIS FOOT BACK ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR DIDN'T STOP. HE PUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON AND THE CAR DIDN'T STOP. THE CAR CRASHED THROUGH OUR FENCE AT WHICH POINT HE PUT THE CAR INTO PARK AND IT CAME TO A SCREECHING HALT. *TR
MY SON WAS INVOLVED IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT IN HIS 2007 HONDA FIT SPORT. HE HIT A TRUCK STOPPED IN THE STREET WHILE TRYING TO AVOID THE TRUCK. THE IMPACT OCCURRED ON THE LEFT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE HONDA FIT. THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE FIT WAS HEAVILY DAMAGED & THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. MY SON HAD A SERIOUS HEAD INJURY AND WAS UNCONSCIOUS AND WAS FLOWN BY LIFE FLIGHT TO A TRAUMA CENTER WHERE HE WAS HOSPITALIZED WITH A SERIOUS BRAIN INJURY. NONE OF THE CAR'S AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. HAD THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DEPLOYED, HIS INJURY WOULD HAVE BEEN GREATLY REDUCED. BEFORE THE ACCIDENT, THE CAR WAS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH 38,000 MILES ON IT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY PLACED THE SALVAGE VALUE AT $1,100. WHY DIDN'T THE AIRBAGS WORK IN SUCH A SERIOUS ACCIDENT? I HAVE PHOTOS AVAILABLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN AFTER BRAKING AT A STOP SIGN, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY LOCKED UP. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK INTO PLACE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 58,298.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. SHE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER NECK AND LEFT RIB CAGE. THE CONTACT WAS PREVIOUSLY REAR-ENDED BY A VEHICLE DRIVING 45 MPH. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING THAT CRASH AS WELL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE AIR BAGS; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 80,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE FROM THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE LEAK OCCURRED WHENEVER THERE WAS A HEAVY RAIN. POWER STEERING REPEATEDLY DISENGAGES WHILE DRIVING CAUSING POWER STEERING FAILURE. THIS HAPPENS APPROXIMATELY 1 OUT OF 25 TIMES THE VEHICLES IS DRIVEN. WHEN STEERING FAILS, IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 HONDA FIT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER IT RAINED, HE FOUND WATER ON THE FLOOR IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP ON THREE OCCASIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE HAD MINOR WELDING PERFORMED ON DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.
CAR IS GARAGE STORED AND DEVELOPED A STRESS FRACTURE IN THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT ONE DAY. I FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE WINDSHIELD ON THIS CAR IS NOT PROPERLY MOUNTED, CAUSING IT TO CRACK. THIS DIMINISHES VISIBILITY, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT WHEN HEADLIGHTS REFLECT OFF THE CRACK AND SEEMS TO HAVE WEAKENED THE STRENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD. WHEN I CALLED HONDA OF AMERICA THEY REFUSED TO HELP ME. *TR
DRIVING MY 2007 HONDA FIT THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. THE CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE AND WAIT ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING CAR. WHEN CAR WAS STARTED POWER STEERING RETURNED. I CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT RECEIVE ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A HONDA DEALER TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM CHECKED. *TR
AT AROUND 30,000 MILES THE VEHICLE STARTED STALLING WHEN COLD. WE WOULD START THE CAR AND BEFORE YOU COULD SWITCH FROM PARK TO DRIVE THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. IT HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE EVER SINCE. WE NOW HAVE 100,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND NOW THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN PULLING FROM A STOP WHICH LEAVES US DANGEROUSLY EXPOSED IN INTERSECTIONS ON A REGULAR BASIS. IT SEEMS LIKE A SIMPLE PROBLEM OF THE CAR IDLING AT TOO LOW OF AN RPM WHEN COLD, HOWEVER HONDA INSISTS THERE IS NO PROBLEM. WE HAD TAKEN IT TO HONDA A FEW TIMES WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. HONDA INSISTS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG BECAUSE NO ENGINE CODES ARE COMING UP. WE HAVE REPLACED ALL SPARK PLUGS AND ALL IGNITION COILS AND THAT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. HONDA EVEN HAD THE CAR HOOKED UP TO THE COMPUTER WHILE IT STALLED AND STILL INSISTS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO WE WILL BE TAKING IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO SEE IF THE PROBLEM CAN BE PROPERLY DIAGNOSED. *TR
WE HAVE A 13 YEAR OLD WHO WEIGHS OVER 75 POUNDS. SHE BEGAN RIDING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OF OUR 2007 HONDA FIT AFTER HER 13TH BIRTHDAY. WE NOTICED THAT THE SRS INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON WHILE SHE SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. ACCORDING TO THE HONDA MANUAL, IF THE LIGHT COMES ON OTHER THAN WHEN YOU FIRST START THE CAR, YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR CAR CHECKED BY THE DEALER, AS THIS MAY INDICATE THAT THE AIR BAGS OR SEAT BELT TENSIONERS ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WE HAVE NOW TAKEN OUR CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THEY CLAIM THE SRS SYSTEM AND THE AND THE SENSORS WORK PROPERLY. WE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTION IS THE MANUAL, AND CHECKED ITEMS THAT MIGHT BE INTERFERING WITH THE SENSORS. WE HAVE A PICTURE OF OUR DAUGHTER SITTING IN THE PASSENGER WITH THE SRS INDICATOR LIGHT ON. WE HAVE HAD HER RIDE IN ANOTHER 2007 FIT, WHERE THIS PROBLEM DID NOT OCCUR. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO OCCUR IN OUR CAR, HOWEVER HONDA SAYS THEY CANNOT FIX THIS, AS THEY CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. WE DISAGREE. OUR 75+ POUND DAUGHTER CANNOT SAFELY RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WE BELIEVE WE HAVE A DEFECTIVE VEHICLE, ONE THAT IS NOT SAFE FOR 13 AND 14 YEAR OLDS UNDER 100 POUNDS TO RIDE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
2007 HONDA FIT SPORT I BOUGHT 2 OF THESE CARS AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE NOTICED AFTER ABOUT 25K MILES THAT ON BOTH CARS THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR HAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT THAT CAUSES ONE OF THE LIGHTS IN THE HEADLIGHT THAT BLINKS WHEN YOU USE THE AUTO CLICKER TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE CAR TO GO OUT UNTIL YOU PUSH THE LIGHT. HONDA LOOKED AT ONE OF THE CARS AND SAID SO SORRY DON'T KNOW WHY IT DID THAT BUT IT WORKS NOW. NOW ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER MY OTHER CAR THAT HONDA HASN'T LOOKED AT IS DOING THE SAME THING. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 HONDA FIT WHICH HAS BEEN LEAKING WATER IN THE PASSENGER BACK FLOOR AREA FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. IT BEGAN OVER A YEAR AGO AND WAS SENT TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES. IT WAS ACCUMULATING OVER A 6 INCHES OF RAIN AND BECAME MOLDY AND SMELLED HORRIBLE. I EXPLAINED MY CONCERNS TO THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING THE LEAK AND MOLD HEALTH HAZARDS. ESPECIALLY HAVING MY NEWBORN IN THE CAR WITH ME. THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTED TO TAKE THE CAR APART.. THE LAST TIME IT WAS THERE WAS IN APRIL 2010 AND THEY ALLEGEDLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. WE HAVE NOT HAD A HUGE AMOUNT OF RAIN SINCE THEN (EXCEPT FOR ALOT OF SNOT). THE OTHER DAY AFTER A HUGE RAIN STORM I NOTICED A DISTINCT MILDEW SMELL. ONCE AGAIN THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH MY ALL WEATHER MATS WAS COMPLETELY SOAKED. (DIRECTLY UNDER MY 15 MO OLD'S CARSEAT.) I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AN UNRELATED RECALL AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE COULD BE. I AM AT MY WITS END AND CANNOT EXPOSE MY CHILD TO THIS MOLDY HEALTH HAZARD ANY LONGER. I AM LOOKING INTO MY RIGHTS AS A CONSUMER AND WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. *TR
2007 HONDA FIT MAJOR ISSUES: DOOR SEALS DO NOT KEEP OUT WATER WHICH RESULTS IN WET FLOOR IN THE TRUNK AND REAR PASSENGER AREA. THE PROBLEM WILL EVENTUALLY RUST OUT THE VEHICLE PREMATURELY AND IS A LIABILITY AND UNSAFE VEHICLE FOR LONG TERM USE. WITH THE WET INTERIOR COMES MOLD AND MILDEW THAT IS VERY HARMFUL TO YOUR HEALTH AND NOT FIT FOR CHILDREN OR ADULTS. HONDA HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THIS ISSUE. *TR
PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIME OVER THE PAST 2+ YEARS: SITUATION 1: WHILE DRIVING, WITHOUT WARNING, TOTAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING, STEERING WARNING LIGHT AND OTHER LIGHTS ON DASH LIGHT UP: SITUATION GOES AWAY BY TURNING OFF THE CAR AND RE-STARTING IT. SITUATION 2: STARTING THE CAR, CAR STARTS, POWER STEERING AND OTHER LIGHTS REMAIN ON, NO POWER STEERING. SITUATION GOES AWAY BY TURNING OFF CAR AND RE-STARTING. SITUATION 1 POTENTIALLY DEADLY - HAPPENED TO MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING, VERY DIFFICULT FOR HER TO MAKE A NECESSARY TURN ON WINDING ROAD.
LOST OF POWER STEERING ON 2007/2008 HONDA FIT. NORMALLY ON VERY COLD DAYS WHEN THE CAR IS COLD. IN THE MORNING ON FIRST STARTUP OR AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED FOR LONG TIME. THE POWERING STEERING DOES NOT WORK. USUALLY CAN TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART TO FIX THE PROBLEM. BUT SOMETIMES HAVE TO DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES. TWICE IT HAS QUIT WHILE I WAS ACTUALLY DRIVING BOTH TIMES WERE WITH IN THE FIRST 5 MILES OF DRIVING FROM HOME AND WORK, LOST OF POWER STEERING. PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES OVER SEVERAL YEARS BUT IS INTERMITTENT TO WHEN IT HAPPENS. NORMALLY HAPPENS ABOUT 1-3 TIMES A WEEK DURING THE WINTER SEASON OF ABOUT 3 MONTHS. HONDA DOES HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE PROBLEM NOW #09-043. PROBLEM SEEM TO BE THE EPS UNIT, PART NUMBER 39980-SLN-A21. I SERIOUSLY CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY PROBLEM AS YOU ALL OF A SUDDEN CAN LOST YOUR STEERING ABILITY WHILE DRIVING. THE PROBLEM IS NOT NORMAL AND I THINK HONDA SHOULD RECALL THIS CAR TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. I JUST READ THAT THE GM CARS AND ACURA CARS HAVE A SIMILAR POWER STEERING PROBLEM AND GM IS RECALLING THEIR CARS TO FIX IT. THIS THREAD DOCUMENTS OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM I HAVE. I OWN A 2007 HONDA FIT SPORT THAT WAS IN A HIGH SPEED CRASH. READING THE COMPLAINT # 10228324 I CAN RELATE TO THIS ISSUE. I WAS HIT ON THE VERY FRONT LEFT SIDE AT ABOUT 55 MPH AND THEN PUSHED OFF THE ROAD TO THE RIGHT. THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE CAR HIT A DIRT BURM AROUND 30 MPH. THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY BUT THE AIR BAG LIGHT STAYED ON UNTIL IT WAS RESET. THE BODY SHOP ADVISED ME THAT THE IMPACT CUT THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE AIR BAGS AND SENSOR'S HAD BEEN CUT IN HALF AND THE SENSORS WERE CRACKED. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE LEFT SIDE OF THIS MODEL FIT HAS MANY FLAWS AND I AM LUCKY THAT I WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE ONLY ANSWER I CAN GET ON THIS ISSUE IS THAT THE IMPACT WASN'T IN THE RED ZONE FOR THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. I'M SORRY BUT IF THEY DON'T DEPLOY DURING A FRONT END IMPACT WHY WOULD I EVER THINK THEY WOULD HAVE EVER DEPLOYED WITH THE WIRES CUT IN HALF. THE RED ZONE ISN'T THE ISSUE. THE CAR IS A DEATH TRAP ON WHEELS. SO MUCH FOR THE SAFETY RATINGS BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE THIS CAR HAS AN AIR BAG ISSUE. THE RECALL BECAUSE OF SALT, B.S. BECAUSE I LIVE IN TEXAS AND HAVE 2 OF THESE CARS THAT THE PASSENGER SENSOR IS STILL SHORTING OUT EVEN AFTER THEY REPLACED IT. TEXAS ISN'T ONE OF THE STATES THAT IS IN THE MULTI SALT STATES THAT THE RECALL COVERS. I THINK SOMEONE NEED TO TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT THE ISSUE BEFORE SOME DOES LOOSE THERE LIFE. ENOUGH SAID...... THE A PILLAR IS VERY WIDE AND CAN EASILY OBSTRUCT THE VIEW OF 1-2 PEOPLE WALKING ACROSS THE STREET. I AM A 4'11" DRIVER, WHO DRIVES SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY AND HAVE ALMOST HIT SEVERAL PEDESTRIANS WHO WERE WALKING ACROSS THE STREET AS I WAS CROSSING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION DUE TO COMPLETE VISUAL OBSTRUCTION OF THEM DUE TO THE A-PILLARS ON BOTH THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE. IF I RAISE MYSELF UP USING A CUSHION ON THE SEAT AND SUBSEQUENTLY RAISE THE STEERING WHEEL UP TO ALLOW FOR MY LEGS TO PASS UNDER IT, THEN THE STEERING WHEEL OBSTRUCTS THE VIEW OF THE SPEEDOMETER. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE EITHER A MORE ADJUSTABLE SEAT OR A CHANGE IN POSITION OF THE A PILLAR TO ALLOW FOR BETTER VISION FOR A SHORT DRIVER IN THIS CAR. UNFORTUNATELY, I THINK I'LL HAVE TO SELL THIS CAR IN ORDER TO NOT RUN THE RISK OF HITTING A PEDESTRIAN. *TR
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAS FAILED NUMEROUS TIMES DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE DURING DRIVING AND CAUSED NEAR MISSES OF OTHER CARS. FAILURE MOSTLY OCCURS AT STARTUP, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE CAR. IT TENDS TO OCCUR WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS CLOSER TO FREEZING BUT IT HAS OCCURRED IN THE SUMMER. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 09-043 HAS BEEN DISCUSSED ON SEVERAL FORUMS. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM DISCUSSED IN NUMEROUS FORUMS AND IS A DEFECT IN THE MANUFACTURING OF THE 2007 HONDA FITS. A RECALL IS REQUESTED AS IT POSSES A SIGNIFICANT RISK TO HUMAN LIFE AND LIMB, PARTICULARLY WHEN FAILURE OCCURS DURING DRIVING. *TR

AFTER ABOUT 2 YEARS, I NOTICED THAT MY CARPET IN THE REAR SEAT AND REAR HATCH AREA WERE SATURATED WITH WATER ANY TIME IT RAINS (LIVING IN FLORIDA, IT RAINS OFTEN). UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT UNDER THE REAR HATCH AREA WAS POOLING WITH A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF WATER (WE'RE TALKING A QUART OF WATER AFTER A HEAVY DOWNPOUR, EASILY A GALLON WITHIN A RAINY WEEK IF NOT TENDED TO DAILY). IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS SOME KIND OF LEAK AROUND THE REAR DOOR HATCH AND/OR REAR LIGHT SEALS, AND/OR IN THE ROOF, AND/OR IN THE FLOOR. THIS HAS LED TO MOLD AND MILDEW GROWTH IN THE VEHICLE'S PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHICH REPRESENTS A SERIOUS HEALTH CONCERN, NOT TO MENTION PROPERTY DAMAGE TO ANYTHING BEING TRANSPORTED IN THE VEHICLE. I HAVE BECOME AWARE OF OTHER HONDA FIT OWNERS FROM THE 2007-08 MODEL YEARS THAT HAVE THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. MY 07 HONDA FIT IS LEAKING WATER. THE CARPET IS WET AND MOLDY, ESPECIALLY UNDER THE REAR SEATS. THIS CAUSES MY WINDOWS TO HAVE CONDENSATION ON THEM AND IMPAIRS MY VIEW THROUGH THE WINDOWS SINCE THEY ARE FOGGY FROM OCTOBER TO MARCH WITH THE COLDER WEATHER.. THE SPARE TIRE AREA HAS WATER SITTING IN IT EVENTHOUGH I TAKE THE PLUG OUT TO DRAIN. THE CAR IS DEVALUED DUE TO THE STINK AND THOSE WITH HEALTH PROBLEMS DON'T WANT TO RIDE IN IT. DUE TO THE MOLD. THE CAR HAS STARTED RUSTING WHERE WETNESS POOLS, UNDER THE SEAT. AND IF IT ISN'T TAKEN CARE OF SOON, THE WET INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANELS WILL NOT ONLY RUST PREMATURELY BUT COMPROMISE MY REAR ELECTRICAL, SUCH AS MY SPEAKERS AND WHATEVER ELSE GOES THROUGH THE DOORS. I ALMOST GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT, I KNEW THE CAR HAD THIS BLIND SPOTS BUT NEVER KNEW WHERE SO DANGEROUS. NOT JUST TRADITIONAL BLIND SPOTS BUT EVEN WORSE FRONT AND BACK BLIND SPOTS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO MAKE TURNS WHEN INTERSECTING ANOTHER ROAD. *TR
OVER THE YEARS I HAVE EXPERIENCED MY POWER STEERING FAIL AND IS HAPPENING MORE OFTEN THE OLDER THE CAR GETS. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I DID WHAT THE MANUAL SAID AND PULLED OVER, TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT A MINUTE AND RESTARTED IT. IT WAS FINE AFTER THAT AND ONLY HAPPENED ABOUT TWICE THE FIRST YEAR. WHEN I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THAT SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AND SAID TO DO WHAT THE MANUAL SAID. AFTER TELLING THEM THIS HAPPENS SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR THEY WERE NEVER CONCERN OR CHECKED ERROR MESSAGES FROM THE ELECTRICAL MODULE. I'VE BROUGHT THIS TO THEIR ATTENTION SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ANY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT TO THE SITIUATION. SINCE THAT FIRST YEAR IT IS GRADUALLY GET WORSE. I STARTED KEEPING TRACK IN A CALENDAR WHEN EVER THIS OCCURS. ONE MONTH IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES AND TWO OF THOSE TIMES WERE TWO DAYS IN A ROW. I OWN A 2007 HONDA FIT, SPORT MODEL- THAT WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THERE WAS A LATE MODEL TOYOTA TUNDRA PICKUP TRUCK INFRONT OF MY CAR AND IT CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. I COULDN'T STOP QUICK ENOUGH- I WAS TRAVELING AT LOW SPEED MUST BE UNDER 15MPH. MY CAR HIT THE BUMPER OF THE PICK UP TRUCK INFRONT OF ME AND THE HOOD, LIGHTS AND ENTIRE "TOP" FRONT END SUSTAINED ABOUT "$7000" WORTH OF DAMAGE. BUT NONE OF THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT ALL. LOTS OF LIGHTS ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER CAME ON AND WENT OFF BUT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE TUNDRA ONLY SUSTAINED A SCRATCH ON THE REAR BUMPER. AFTER A TEAR DOWN BY THE BODY SHOP IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SENSORS WERE INSTALLED AT THE SIDES AT THE FRONT END OF THE FRAME RAIL. THIS IS A VERY LOW POSITION ON THIS CAR SINCE ITS ALREADY LOW TO THE GROUND. I BELIEVE THE AIRBAG SENSORS ARE TOO LOW ON THESE CARS BY POOR AND IRRESPONSIBLE DESIGN BY HONDA. HAD THESE SENSORS BEEN PLACED AT A HIGHER ELEVATION THEN THE AIRBAGS WOULD HAVE GONE OFF AND THE INJURIES WOULD HAVE BEEN EVEN MINOR. THIS DESIGN DECISION SEEMS LIKE IT WAS DEVELOPED TO SATISFY THE FRONTAL CRASH TESTS CONDUCTED BY THE INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR HIGHWAY SAFETY. DURING THOSE TESTS THE CARS ARE EVALUATED FOR CRASHES TO A SOLID OBJECT ANCHORED TO THE GROUND. THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH SCENARIO WITH ANY VEHICLE THAT WOULD NOT BE A COMPACT CAR. I WAS LUCKY BECAUSE THERE WAS NO LOSS OF LIFE BUT THE SAME ACCIDENT AT A HIGHER SPEED WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND CERTAIN LOSS OF LIFE. I EXPERIENCED A SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY HONDA FIT VEHICLE (I HAVE A 2007 NON-SPORT MODEL, AUTOMATIC) ON MARCH 26. AFTER STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION, I MADE A RIGHT HAND TURN AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMED TO LOCK INTO PLACE. THE CAR CONTINUED TURNING TO THE RIGHT, NEARLY HITTING THE CURB. I MANAGED TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND STRAIGHTENED THE CAR. I THEN REALIZED WHAT HAD HAPPENED: ONE OF THE KEYS ON MY KEY CHAIN HAD BEEN STICKING OUT AND GOT STUCK IN A SMALL ORIFICE THAT IS LOCATED ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, NEAR WHERE IT MEETS THE STEERING COLUMN. THE ORIFICE IS JUST BIG ENOUGH TO FIT A FINGER INSIDE. (THERE IS AN ORIFICE ON BOTH THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES OF THE WHEEL.) I REPORTED THIS TO BOTH THE HONDA "800" CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AND TO MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER IN PRINCETON, NJ. *TR
PURCHASE A 2007 HONDA FIT ON 3/15/08 WITH 3,300 MILES ON IT. AFTER DRIVING IT 150 MILES IN 3 DAYS NOW HAVE SHARP PAIN IN MY RIGHT FOOT AS THE ANGLE MY FOOT TAKES TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR IS STRESSFUL. I NOW HAVE PAIN JUST WALKING AROUND. SO FAR, IT HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, BUT THE LAST TIME IT QUIT, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN ON NARROW STREETS AT A CITY INTERSECTION AND NEARLY RAN UP ON A CURB. (3) A HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER PERFORMED THE HONDA-SPECIFIED DIAGNOSTICS AND FOUND AN "ERROR CODE" OF SOME SORT AND THEN PERFORMED THE HONDA-DICTATED PROCEDURES TO REMOVE THE CODE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE NOR COULD THEY TELL ME THAT THE SOURCE PROBLEM HAD BEEN CORRECTED, BUT ONLY THAT A COMPUTER CODE HAD BEEN REMOVED. *TR

AFTER HAVING PURCHASED MY FIT, ONE MORNING AT ABOUT 10,000 MILES, I STARTED MY CAR A POWER STEERING INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON, THE ORANGE STEERING WHEEL LIGHT ON MY DASH. MY POWER STEERING WOULDN'T WORK. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON THEN THE POWER STEERING REENGAGED. THIS HAPPENED ONLY ONCE AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST FROM BEING COLD. AS I CONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE IT STARTED HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY, USUALLY WHEN THE CAR WAS COLD IN THE MORNING AND NOT VERY OFTEN IN THE SUMMER. I HAD MY DEALERSHIP LOOK AT IT AND GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE ON THE CHARGES SINCE IT WAS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. THE COST WAS VERY EXPENSIVE AND SINCE IT WAS INTERMITTENT I THOUGHT I WOULD WAIT UNTIL IT FAILED COMPLETELY. HONDA REFUSED TO COVER THE ISSUE, EVENTHOUGH I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A VERY RARE INCIDENT AND SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING. I AM SUBMITTING THIS REVIEW BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND IT IS NOT SO UNCOMMON ON THIS VEHICLE AND FOR SOME IT OCCURS WHILE DRIVING. I WILL NOW HAVE THE ISSUE FIXED BECAUSE IT WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR THE POWER STEERING TO DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING. I HOPE THIS ISSUE IS CONSIDERED IMPORTANT BECAUSE HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO FIX THIS FAILURE WEATHER IN OR OUT OF WARRANTY. AT 6:00 PM LAST FRIDAY, I DROVE MY 2007 HONDA FIT OVER A LOW-LYING PARKING BARRIER LEFT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A PARKING LOT. UPON HITTING THE BARRIER, MY ENGINE RPMS WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND THE CAR WOULD NOT STOP IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT I HAD MY FOOT JAMMED ON THE BRAKE. TO AVOID CRASHING HEAD ON INTO A CONCRETE WALL, I TURNED AND HIT A PARKED CAR. MY OWN CAR DID NOT STOP UNTIL IT WAS HIGH-SIDED ON ANOTHER, PROPERLY PLACED, PARKING BARRIER. THE VEHICLE IS IN THE SAME CONDITION AND THE CONTACT DOES NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING. IN ADDITION, THE COIL PACKS NEED TO BE REPAIRED, WHICH HE ASSUMED TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE SPARK PLUS HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THE COIL PACKS ARE ON BACKORDER AND NO ONE HAS THE PARTS AVAILABLE. THE HESITATION OF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

BROUGHT IN TODAY, JULY 19, - WILL BE ATTEMPTING 3RD FIX. AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE MOLD SMELL - THEY CLEANED UP THE WHITE MOLD DURING THE FIRST FIX - SO VISUAL EVIDENCE IS GONE. I HAVE SEVERE ALLERGIES AND TAKE MEDICATIONS EVERY DAY, YEAR ROUND. THE DEALERSHIP AND MECHANICS SAY THIS IS A DEFECT FROM THE FACTORY. THEY HAVE BEEN SPEAKING WITH HONDA ENGINEERS ON HOW TO FIX - BUT SO FAR UNSUCCESSFUL. I BOUGHT THIS NEW, AS A RETIREMENT GIFT TO MYSELF. CASHED IN AN IRA.
