Honda has sent me numerous mailers advertising a gift card and loaner vehicle as incentives for participating in their Takata recall. Honda also cites the promise of a loaner vehicle in every press release trumpeting their so-called commitment to this recall. My local Honda dealership refuses to provide a loaner vehicle. I reported this problem to Honda expecting them to intervene, but I received nothing except useless automated email responses.
Cv axles prematurely rusting
My doors have defaulted to the lock position, even when the vehicle is occupied. The electronic unlock system will not permit the car to unlock. The manual lock strongly resists being moved to the unlock position. With much force, it can be moved, but immediately relocks. The only way to exit the vehicle is to force the manual lock to unlock while simultaneously pulling the handle to open the door. This is an extreme safety hazard - as one cannot easily exit the vehicle. Upon entering the vehicle, an older driver, a less strong driver, or partially disabled driver would be trapped in their vehicle with only emergency procedures able to free them. If there were an accident, and the airbag were deployed - it would be impossible for an able bodied driver to get both hands to the door and initiate the sequence necessary to exit the car. One would be trapped. An incredibly dangerous situation. I see the door actuator has been recalled on other Honda models - so it is a known issue with the manufacturer. At highways speeds vehicle became difficult to maintain in a straight path. Slight change in the steering would result in car drifting to the left or right, requiring constant correction. Car felt unsafe to drive...took to mechanic to be diagnosed. Informed car needed a new steering rack system.
The power steering warning light is on intermittently. The steering is too heavy to turn and the wheels feel like locked.
Driver door actuator malfunctioning triggering passenger door and trunk hatch to all To constantly lock and unlock until car reaches about 10 miles per hour. Took to Honda dealership for inspection and confirmed problem. Also confirmed back order for parts to repair for 2 months or more.
On April 25, 2022 our 2009 Fit started rolling away when it was parked, not in gear and the parking brake was not set. In trying to "catch" the car from traveling into the street, my elderly husband took a bad fall and sustained a shattered shoulder, nerve damage, and other injuries. The car continued to travel into the street, and finally stopped after hitting the car parked across the street (my 2005 Toyota). At first, we thought it was simply an unfortunate incident and did not report the incident. Last week, however, we received the notice from Honda about the NHTSA Recall 20V-770. This is the first time we were notified about the recall! When I went to your website, it appears Honda knew about this in 2020. We are taking the car to the dealership tomorrow (August 5, 2022). I am grateful you have a site that puts our safety first. Hopefully, we will know whether a defect was a factor in the accident. I have a related safety question. The dealership said they would inspect the part, and order a new one if it needs it, and let us know when the work could be done. Is it safe to keep driving the Fit while we wait for the part? I'd rather get an answer from an unbiased professional like yourselves. Many thanks for your help.
Pulling out onto a busy highway my car lost propulsion. It died in the middle of the highway with cars coming towards me. I found out the front right drive axle broke. I have photos of the broken drive axle. I later found out the part was recalled. I was never notified of any recall. I had my mechanic fix the car. He put in a new axle. Then I found out (on Facebook) that the axle was covered by recall. I called Honda. They said they will reimburse me for the repair. I sent them all the info, detailed bill and paid in full receipt. They did not pay. They closed my case. They do not return phone calls or letters.
2009 HONDA FIT. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING BECOMES DIFFICULT. THE VEHICLE'S MODEL YEAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AS IT OCCURED INTERMITTENTLY.
While driving without warning ? the car loses power steering the steering wheel locks up no control I hit the side walk back up power steering return and sometimes the car just shuts off a few put in park crank up
I was driving home during evening rush hour on the freeway, 65 mph. Suddenly, it felt as though I was driving a tank. Lucky that I was in the slow lane. I used the next exit and drove the rest of the way home very slowly on surface streets. A 100 degree turn in the roadway that I drove on would have been a disaster if a car was coming at me from the opposite direction. It got harder and harder to turn the further that I got. I managed to return home o k. I have had regular Honda maintenance at the dealership where I bought the car. Nowwhere else over the past twelve years. I will call the dealer to make an appointment tomorrow. I've never previously known of this problem - have not read or heard anything via media or been advised by Honda Inc. I've been concerned about electronic steering ever since I bought the car. If there is wind blowing, the car becomes unstable and drifts sideways.
Vehicle caught fire while driving
When driving my 09 fit my radio went in and out then my steering wheel indicator light popped up next thing I knew my steering wheel locked and felt stiff when trying to turn, kept happening as I drove, it’s happened at least 20 times maybe more in ONE day!!! I almost crashed because my power steering goes in and out in this car and it feels like I loose complete control of the car!!! It almost verging off on its own it feels like for about 2-3 seconds sometimes it feels like longer that this happens, once the steering wheel light goes away I can regain control. However this is very very dangerous and I do not feel safe driving the car with this is happening randomly when I’m driving !!!! It’s happening to me at LOW and HIGH speeds and it’s very scary!!!
This is related to the Honda Fit 2000 manual transmission driver shaft recall (Service Bulletin 21-009). Part of the background of this recall reads: “Due to improper manufacturing, the paint on the driveshaft near the dynamic damper may peel and chip over time, exposing the bare metal and potentially causing it to corrode under the dynamic damper. A corroded driveshaft may break during high torque conditions, rendering the vehicle without propulsion, or allowing the vehicle to roll while in Park, which can increase the potential of a crash or injury.” I was surprised to see that only the driver shaft where the dynamic damper is located would be replaced. After I brought in my car (a manual transmission) in for the recall I noticed that the other driver shaft (does not have a damper) is corroded as well. If the drive shaft can break due to corrosion on one side why would it not break on the other side? I would assume it’s made of the same material with only differences that one has a damper and the other does not. Is the damper what would cause the breakage of the driver shaft or the corrosion? The manufacturer failed to apply proper coding on both sides of the driver shaft not just on the side of the damper. I want to bring this to your attention and want to understand the reasoning behind the decision. I am concerned that this still poses a danger for breakage of the drive shaft that wasn’t replaced and where proper coding was not used. The contact stated while her daughter was driving at unknown speed, the steering wheel became difficult to turn with the power steering assist warning light and several other unknown warning lights illuminated. The driver continued driving to her destination. The contact also stated that she was unable to start the vehicle. The vehicle was jump started. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000. The consumer stated the vehicle was diagnosed at CMA'S Valley Honda as the Eps Unit.

DRIVE SHAFT BROKE AFTER PUTTING CAR INTO DRIVE (WAS PARKED ON SLIGHT INCLINE). PUSHED CAR INTO SAFE LOCATION. TOOK DRIVER SIDE TIRE OFF; SAW BROKEN DRIVE SHAFT. DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPACE TO SAFELY INSPECT PASSENGER SIDE.

EVERY WINTER THE BATTERY GOES COMPLETELY DEAD. NO SIGNS OF ANY LIFE IN THE VEHICLE. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACE BY THE DEALER AFTER I HAD THE CAR 6 MONTHS. I HAVE PUT AT LEAST SIX NEW BATTERIES IN THE CAR. SEARCHING ONLINE I FIND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.
DRIVING INTO AN INTERSECTION, MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED BEING ABLE TO PROPEL FORWARD. THERE WAS A CLUNK NOISE. I WAS EVENTUALLY PUSHED TO A PARKING LOT BY POLICE. I GOT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FOUND A BROKEN DRIVE SHAFT AND A RECALL ISSUED BY HONDA A FEW WEEKS BEFORE.

MY RADIO AT RANDOM TIMES WOULD TURN ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS IF IT LOST POWER, THEN ABOUT A WEEK OR TWO LATER MY POWER STEERING WOULD RANDOMLY CUT OUT FOR A FEW SECONDS WITH THE RADIO SHUT OFF AND THE EPS LIGHT IN THE DASH WOULD FLASH THEN GO AWAY, DURING THIS THE CAR BECAME HARD TO HANDLE AND CONTROL. THIS WOULD HAPPEN UNPREDICTABILITY WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ON SURFACE STREETS AND VARIABLE SPEEDS. I CHECKED IT WITH A CODE READER AND NOTHING CAME UP AS A HARD CODE. BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE ISSUE BUT WE'RE ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT IT WAS THE ELECTONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. I NOTICED HONDA HAD A RECALL ON THIS SYSTEM FOR 2007-2008 HONDA FITS AND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS FOR 2009 FITS THAT WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART, AND THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ESPECIALLY SINCE HONDA IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS A PROBLEM FOR 2009 FITS. AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THEY CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT REPLACING THE EPS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM SO I'M POTENTIALLY OUT $1500 FOR SOMETHING THAT IS A SAFETY FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE.
THE RIGHT AXLE RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE WHILE I WAS STATIONARY, WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THE KEFT AXLE WAS ALSO FOUND TO BE VERY RUSTED.
WHILE DRIVING, ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD FLASHED, RADIO TURNED OFF, AND POWER STEERING CUT OUT. OCCURRED IN MANY DIFFERENT SITUATIONS INCLUDING HIGHWAY DRIVING. I'VE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT IS WELL DOCUMENTED TO EXIST BOTH IN EARLIER MODELS OF THE FIT AS WELL AS THE 2009 MODEL. THE EARLIER VERSIONS LEADING UP TO 2008 HAVE A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THE 2009 MODEL DOES NOT. IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED.

SHE DRIVE BACK HOME SHE EXIT REGULAR STREET TURN LEFT TO ROUT 1 THEN THE CAR STOP MOVING AT THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE OTHER CAR THAT DRIVE ON ROUT 1 NEED TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. DRIVER SIDE AXLE BROKE WHILE CROSSING A BUSY HIGHWAY. NO POWER TRANSFERRED WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL TO GET TO THE SIDE STREET LEAVING ME TO COAST SLOWLY ACROSS THE ROAD AS IF THE CAR WERE IN NEUTRAL. PART RETRIEVED FROM ROADWAY. STRESS BREAK WHERE THE AXLE ENTERS THE RUBBER BOOT.
ON 10/3/2018, MY FRONT AXLE SNAPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT. I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO INCITING INCIDENT. AT CARX IN PEORIA, IL, THEY INDICATED THAT IN THE CENTER, THERE IS A RUBBER SEAL WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED BY WATER (NOT BY DRIVER; MFR PROBLEM). AT THAT TIME, IT COST ME $362 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. TODAY, 10/1/2020, MY FRONT AXLE SNAPPED AGAIN AS I WAS TURNING RIGHT WHILE DRIVING. I WAS NOT IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO CARX. THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT, AGAIN, MY FRONT AXLE HAS SNAPPED. I'LL BE UP FOR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF REPAIRS. THANK GOODNESS I WAS NOT REAR-ENDED WHEN IT HAPPENED. I WILL SECURE COPIES OF BOTH REPAIRS.
THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING STRAIGHT AND LEVEL AT A SPEED OF AROUND 35 MPH WHEN THE DRIVER LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THE ROAD HAS 4 LANES (2 IN EACH DIRECTION) WITH NO SHOULDER AND NO DIVISION BETWEEN ONCOMING TRAFFIC. WE FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT POLICE CAME QUICKLY TO PUSH THE CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC. WE LEARNED LATER THAT THE DRIVESHAFT FAILED SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING AND IS NOW UNDER A SAFETY RECALL ORDER. WE HAVE REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER FOR THE DRIVESHAFT REPAIR.

I JUST EXITED A HIGHWAY, STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON THE INTESECTION. WHEN I TRIED TO TURN RIGHT I HEARD A NOISE LIKE THE CAR HIT SOMETHING. BUT THERE WAS NOTHING FOR THE CAR TO HIT UPON TURNING ON RIGHT. THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACK UNTIL I USED THE HANDBRAKE AND TURNED ENGINE OFF. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, THERE WAS NOTHING OBVIOUSLY ADRIFT. TOWING SERVICE CAME AND CONFIRMED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AXEL SHAFT IS BROKEN. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP WHERE THE TECHNICIAN REMOVED THE BROKEN AXEL SHAFT AND SHOWED IT TO ME - THE AXEL SHAFT RUSTED INSIDE THE RUBBER BOOT. ANYWAY, TWO COPS HELPED ME GET THE CAR OUT OF THE INTERSECTION AND INTO A DRIVEWAY, AND I CALLED A LOCAL SHOP THAT I DEAL WITH WHEN I CAN'T DO THE WORK MYSELF, AND HAD IT TOWED THERE. THEY CALLED ME LATER THAT DAY TO SAY THAT THE RIGHT HALF SHAFT HAD SNAPPED INSIDE THE DAMPER, AND THAT WAS THE REASON FOR NO GO AND NOTHING ADRIFT. THEY ASKED IF I WANTED TO REPLACE BOTH HALF SHAFTS, AND I SAID HELL YES, TAKING NO CHANCES ON A REPEAT. A WEEK LATER AND $700 BUCKS LIGHTER, I HAD THE CAR BACK. THE SHOP OWNER AND THE LEAD MECHANIC BOTH SAID THAT THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS ISSUE, BUT MY '07 FIT WAS THE FIRST ONE THAT THEY HAD SEEN. THEY ALSO OPINED THAT THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER OCEAN HONDA OF NORTH HOLLYWOOD (5841 LANKERSHIM BLVD, NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA 91601, (888) 282-4550) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE DRIVESHAFT TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V770000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 121,000.
THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AXLE SHAFT (CV AXLE) ON MY MANUAL 2009 HONDA FIT SNAPPED OFF WHILE IN FIRST GEAR AND DRIVING AT REGULAR SPEED FOR THIS GEAR IN A PARKING LOT (UNDER 20MPH). . IT BROKE AT THE EDGE OF THE RUBBER DAMPER ON THE SHAFT. THE DRIVERS SIDE AXLE IS RUSTED AS WELL BUT HAS NO DAMPER AND DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE STRESS LINES/FAULTS AT THIS TIME. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL PART ON THE CAR FROM DATE OF PURCHASE. CAR HAS 135000 MILES ON IT.
I WAS IN IDLE WHEN THE RADIO FLASHED OFF AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT WENT OFF. IT TURNED BACK OFF, BUT THE CAR JEARKED AND SEEMED TO LOSE POWER. IT ONLY DID THIS IN IDLE FOR WHILE, BUT ONE TIME WHEN I WAS MAKING A TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL JEARKED FROM HAND AND MY CAR LUNGED AT THE SIDEWALK WHERE PEOPLE WERE! SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!! THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS INTENDED. A DEALER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.

THE AXLE ON THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE BROKE. THIS RESULTED IN MY CAR GETTING DISABLED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE SERVICE. THE SERVICE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THERE IS A RUBBER DAMPER ON THE AXLE. SALT AND GRIME ACCUMULATING UNDER THE RUBBER DAMPER LED TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND BREAKING. THE RUBBER DAMPER SHOULD HAVE BEEN DESIGNED SO THAT IT DOES NOT ALLOW ACCUMULATION OF SALT AND GRIME. THE BREAKING OF A VEHICLE AXLE WHILE DRIVING IS A SERIOUS SITUATION, AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT.
I TRIED TO UNLOCK MY CAR WITH THE REMOTE, IT DIDN'T UNLOCK. I COULD HEAR THAT IT WAS TRYING TO UNLOCK. I THEN TRIED THE KEY IN THE DOOR AND IT WOULD NOT TURN ALL THE WAY. I HAD TO CALL AAA TO HAVE THEM UNLOCK THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE DRIVERS DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK. I HAVE TO ENTER THE PASSENGER SIDE AND CLIMB OVER. I ALSO, CANNOT LOCK THE CAR WHEN PARKED, BECAUSE IT WILL NOT UNLOCK.
PASSENGER AXLE BROKE IN HALF. SITTING AT A LIGHT ABOUT TO TAKE OFF. CAR HAS TO BE TOWED AND IS NOT DRIVABLE.
BROKEN LEFT AXEL WHILE DRIVING AFTER MAKING A SLOW LEFT TURN OFF A STREET
FUEL MIXING IN WITH THE ENGINE OIL . AFTER CHANGING THE OIL OR CHECKING THE DIP STICK THE ENGINE OIL SMELLS HEAVILY LIKE FUEL. FUEL IS SOMEHOW MIXING WITH THE ENGINES OIL . VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN I NOTICED THE FUEL SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN AND THEN PROCEEDED TO CHECK THE OIL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 HONDA FIT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE STEERING LOST POWER AND THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MAKE A TURN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING LOST POWER, THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN, AND THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 137,000.
THE POWER STEERING IS FAILING. STEERING IS SERIOUSLY VERY HARD TO STEER. HONDA NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL TO REPAIR THE STEERING. THIS IS POSITIVELY A SAFETY PROBLEM.
CAR STALLS AND DIES AFTER INITIAL START. SOMETIMES EVEN WITH WARMING CAR UP FOR 5-10 MINUTES. OUTDOOR TEMPERATURE CAN BE 90 DEGREES AND THIS STILL HAPPENS. IF I START MY CAR, LET IT RUN FOR 5 MINUTES, PUT IT IN DRIVE, THE MINUTE I BEGIN TO SLOW FOR A STOP SIGN OR SIMPLY FOR AN APPROACHING STOP OR INTERSECTION MY CAR WILL SHUDDER AND DIE. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TWO MECHANICS HAVE FOUND NO CODES SOFT OR HARD TO SHED ANY LIGHT ON WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. I HAVE ALREADY PAID $300 FOR A VALVE ADJUSTMENT, REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND I'M STILL HAVING THE ISSUE.
THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON A COLD DAY IN FEBRUARY OF 2019 WHEN MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR ON HER WAY TO WORK IN THE MORNING. SHE BACKED OUT OF HER PARKING SPOT LIKE NORMAL AND THEN PROCEEDED TO AN INTERSECTION WHERE SHE FOUND THAT HER BRAKE PEDAL HAD BECOME HARD AND WOULD NOT DEPRESS AND SHE COULD NOT SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED MOVING INTO THE MAIN STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, WHERE CROSS TRAFFIC WAS PRESENT. SHE NARROWLY MISSED HITTING OTHER VEHICLES AND WAS GRAZED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AS SHE TURNED LEFT ONTO THE ROAD (T INTERSECTION). FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM BY A HONDA DEALERSHIP DID NOT YIELD ANY FINDINGS, BUT I HAVE TESTED AND WITNESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMING HARD AND NOT DEPRESSING ON COLD WINTER MORNINGS HERE IN THE NORTHEAST. THIS SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED IN AN OLDER HONDA ACCORD HYBRID THAT I HAD OWNED AND THE SOLUTION WAS TO REPLACE A FAULTY BRAKE BOOSTER VACUUM HOSE WITH INTEGRATED CHECK VALVE. WE WERE VERY LUCKY THAT NOBODY WAS FATALLY INJURED IN THIS INCIDENT BUT THIS TYPE OF FAILURE HAS HAPPENED TWICE TO OUR FAMILY ALREADY. I SUSPECT THAT OTHER INCIDENTS INVOLVING A FAILING BRAKE BOOSTER CHECK VALVE RESULTED IN THE TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE CAR OR THAT DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES BY MECHANICS WOULD REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER OR BRAKE BOOSTER AND FINALLY ALL THE HOSES, THEREBY ELIMINATING THE PROBLEM. I'M REPORTING THESE TWO INCIDENTS BECAUSE I HOPE THAT THIS WILL INFORM AUTO MANUFACTURERS TO ADD THE INSPECTION OF BRAKE BOOSTER CHECK VALVES TO REQUIRED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULES TO HELP AVOID FUTURE INJURIES OR FATALITIES AS A RESULT OF THE FAILING PART.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 35 MPH, RADIO LIGHTS FLASHED OFF. SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN, RADIO LIGHTS SHUT OFF, EPS INDICATOR CAME ON FOR APPROX. 2 SECS, STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO TURN, POWER TO STEERING AND RADIO RESUMED AFTER 3-5 SECS. SAME SCENARIO OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL ROADS AT 50MPH OR BELOW. OCCURRED AT MILEAGE 170,000.
POWER STEERING FAILURE. FOLLOWED BY WARNING LIGHT AND VERY HEAVY STEERING, WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT FORTY TO FORTY FIVE MPH ON A PAVED ROAD IN TRAFFIC. STOPPED, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. AFTER A FEW MINUTES RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE PS FAILURE LIGHT WAS OUT, THE PS WORKED BUT ONLY FOR ABOUT FIVE SECONDS. THE PS FAILURE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND THE PS FAILED AGAIN. DROVE HOME AND PARKED THE CAR.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FIRST TEXAS HONDA (3400 STECK AVE, AUSTIN, TX 78757, (512) 220-1121) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC STEERING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000.
DRIVING ALONG A CITY STREET. TIRE SLIPPED ON A PATCH OF ICE WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP. I HEARD SOMETHING BREAK/DROP AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOST LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS. TOWED IT TO THE SHOP. LEFT PASSENGER AXLE SNAPPED IN HALF.
