2004 HONDA ODYSSEY EX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO AIRBAG SAFETY RECALLS. *LD *JS
RETURNING FROM SHORT ROAD TRIP (LESS THAN 30 MILES FROM HOME), CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TCS LIGHT CAME ON. DROVE VEHICLE STRAIGHT TO HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE IT HAS BEEN SERVICED FOR THE LAST 8 YRS SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. CODE P0740 INTERNAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE VEHICLE TO WORK THE NEXT DAY (5 MILES FROM HOME), VEHICLE BEGAN SHUDDERING, RPM GAUGE REVVED TO 4,000RPM'S YET VEHICLE WAS SLOWING. COULD PUT PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL BUT CAR WOULD NOT GO. COULDN'T REACH ANY SPEED OVER 40MPH. VEHICLE VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFTED AND COULDN'T EXCEED 20MPH ON BUSY INTERSTATE. BARELY REACHED WORK WHERE VEHICLE RESTED. AFTER RESTING, ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE VEHICLE BACK HOME - HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. VEHICLE UNABLE TO MOVE FROM DRIVEWAY, TRANSMISSION IS NOT IN WORKING CONDITION. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHORTLY AFTER THE PREVENTIVE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, DECLINED TO PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE INTERNAL BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT COME ON INDICATING THAT WAS ANY BACK BRAKE LIGHTS, THEN WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STOP GOING FORWARD LIGHT THE TRANSMISSION WENT INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN THE TCS INDICATOR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND THEN THE 2004 ODYSSEY STOPPED MOVING WITHOUT ANY INDICATION AT ALL AS I WAS DRIVING IN HIGH TRAFFIC ON A CALIFORNIA FREEWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 7:30AM ON MY WAY TO WORK. I AM TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE MODELS AND THAT I WOULD COST ME OVER $3,200.00 OUT OF PICKET TO FIX AND THEN, (I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO HONDA FOR RECALL REPAIRS, BECAUSE IT IS STILL UNDER THE RECALL STATIC AND HONDA HAS NEVER FIXED THIS PROBLEM. AT THE TIME I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER I WASN'T TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE ODYSSEY'S AND THERE WASN'T ANY DEFEATS REPORTED ON THE VEHICLE FIX SHEETS. *TR
DRIVER'S SIDE (LEFT) SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLE BROKEN. SEAT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN NO ACCIDENTS. A SEARCH OF FORUMS REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND HONDA TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR POOR ENGINEERING. TSB 02-059 PER HONDA. *TR

I WAS ENTERING AN 4WAY AND IT WAS MY WAY TO CLEAR TO ENTER, WHEN A DRIVER ON MY RIGHT SIDE ENTER AFTER I HAD ALLREADY ENTERED THE INTERSECTION AND WAS WELL UNDERWAY. THE OTHER DRIVER COMPLAIN THAT HE WAS BLINDED BY THE SUN AND RAN INTO ME ON MY RIGHT SIDE OF VAN. MY INSURANCE ASKED IF MY AIRBAGS HAD OPENED THEY DIDN'T. THE PASSENGER DOOR WAS DAMAGED AND THE BACK SIDE SLIDING DOOR WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED AND WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN IT AND THE OPENED DOOR DING WOULD NOT STOP RINGING. I AM CONCERNED WHY THE BAG DIDN'T OPENED? *TR
I TOOK THE VAN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR AND OIL CHANGE AND ITS 60,000 MILE CHECK UP. I WAS TOLD TWO OF THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE CRACKED AND/OR BROKEN. ABOUT $900 TO REPLACE BOTH OF THEM. UPON LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR HONDA ODYSSEYS AT ABOUT THAT MILEAGE AROUND THAT YEAR. WITH SO MANY WITH THE PROBLEM, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR
I RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR A MODULE IN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM CAUSING IT TO DEPLOY ON ITS OWN. THE ADDITIONAL PROBLEM THAT I AM HAVING IS THE " SRS " LIGHT IS ON WHICH AS I WAS TOLD BY THE HONDA MECHANIC THAT IT MEANS THAT THE AIR BAG MIGHT NOT DEPLOY IF NEEDED . THEY ALSO REFUSED TO FIX THE LIGHT BEING ON BECAUSE THEY SAID THE 2 PROBLEMS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH EACH OTHER. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME MORE OF A SAFTY HAZZARD THAT THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT INFLATE WHEN YOU WOULD NEED IT AS APPOSED TO GOING OFF BY ITSELF. THEY ARE MAKING ME BRING IT BACK ANOTHER DAY SO THEY CAN CHARGE $115.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE PLUS OTHER PARTS WHAT IS NEEDED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 13V412000 (AIR BAGS) THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN AIR BAG SENSOR FAILURE, BUT ONE THAT WAS NONRELATED TO THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 123,000.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I RECEIVED A LETTER IN THE MAIL FROM THE HONDA AUTOMOBILE DIVISION ABOUT THE RECALL ON AIRBAGS FOR 2004 ODYSSEYS, AND I CONTACTED THE JEFFREY HONDA DEALER, IN ROSEVILLE, MICHIGAN. A CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE SAID THEY WOULD GET BACK TO ME ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF THIS, BUT IT HAS BEEN NEARLY A MONTH AND NO ONE HAS GOTTEN BACK TO ME. ARE THE AIRBAGS OKAY, OR DO WE STILL NEED TO GET THEM FIXED? IF WE DO HAVE TO GET THEM FIXED, WHEN WILL THE HONDA DEALERS KNOW ABOUT THIS? PLEASE LET ME KNOW. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! AS MY HUSBAND ACCELERATED, THE STEERING LOST POWER. HE COULD GIVE THE ENGINE GAS BUT COULD NOT MANAGE THE CAR. SOMEHOW HE WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR AROUND AND GET THE CAR BACK TO OUR MECHANIC. HE CHECKED IT OUT AND DETERMINED THAT INDEED THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. *TR

2004 HONDA ODYSSEY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED BOTH INSTANCES OCCURRED, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK. THE VEHICLE IMPACTED A BUILDING WALL. THE CONSUMER STATED HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND HE RECALLED THE ENGINE ROARING AND UNABLE TO STOP. *JB
WE HAVE A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY, BOUGHT IT USED IN THE SUMMER OF 2009 WITH 79,766 MILE. NOW AT 91,160 MILE, IT'S HAVING MAJOR ISSUES. ON OCTOBER 12, 2013, WE DROVE THE VAN TO THE STORE AND BACK HOME JUST FINE. ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 14TH WHEN WE TRIED TO DRIVE THE VAN AGAIN, IT WOULD NOT REVERSE OR DRIVE AT ALL. THE ENGINES STARTS UP JUST FINE IN PARKING AND IN NEUTRAL GEAR. AS SOON AS THE GEAR WAS SHIFTED TO D OR R, THE ENGINES STALLED. PLUS THE D DRIVE LIGHT WAS FLASHING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. SEARCHING ONLINE I FOUND THAT OWNERS OF 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY WAS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION FAILING. ON OCTOBER 22, I CALLED TO HONDA AMERICA TO SEE IF I CAN GET SOME ASSISTANCE FOR HELPING WITH THE REPAIR. I WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER. THAT SAME MORNING, I HAD OUR ODYSSEY VAN TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NEVER DROVE A CAR THAT TRANSMISSION WOULD FAIL. IF HONDA DOESN'T ASSIST ME WITH THE REPAIR, THIS WILL BE THE LAST HONDA I WILL EVER BUY! *TR
DRIVERS SIDE TOP SLIDING DOOR TRACK IS COMING LOOSE THE SPOT WELDS ARE BRAKING LOOSE FROM THE BODY. THE SLIDING DOOR IS A LITTLE LOSE. I AM CONCERNED THAT IT WILL BRAKE LOOSE COMPLETELY AND THE DOOR WILL FALL OFF WHILE WE ARE DRIVING. THIS IS A 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY LX. TRANSMISSION SLIPS IN 2ND GEAR WITH A SLIGHT LOAD I.E. GOING UP A SLIGHT HILL. IF YOU ACCELERATE THE SLIPPING/SHUDDER GOES AWAY. HONDA WAS NOT ABLE TO GIVE ME SPECIFIC INFORMATION AS TO THE VIN NUMBERS AFFECTED BY THEIR 2004 TRANSMISSION RECALL BUT COULD ONLY TELL ME MY VIN WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SECOND GEAR SLIPPING FAILURE WHEN I SEARCHED ONLINE, THE INFORMATION I READ STATED THAT THE ISSUE WAS WITH OIL FLOW TO THE SECOND GEAR CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. IT SEEMS THE 2004 RECALL SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED MORE VIN NUMBERS. MY VEHICLE HAS HIGH MILEAGE NOW AND IS OUTSIDE HONDA'S ASSISTANCE PARAMETERS BUT IF THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL MAYBE MY TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT HAVE FAILED. *TR

I DID NOT KNOW THE MOTOR MOUNT WAS AN ISSUE ON HONDA ODYSSEY BUT I ALREADY REPLACE ONE SO FAR ON MY VAN AFTER A MONTH I TOOK MY VAN FOR A IGNITION RECALL AND OVERALL THE VAN DID NOT ANY PROBLEMS AT ALL AFTER GETTING IT BACK FROM THE DEALER BUT AFTER A FEW WEEKS THE ENGINE KEEP SHUTTING DOWN IN A LOW IDLE, NO ACCIDENTS SO FAR ONLY MAD PEOPLE BEHIND ME WHEN MY VAN STALLS. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 HONDA ODYSSEY ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN ALL TRANSMISSION GEARS STOPPED WORKING. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE ODYSSEY WAS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. IT COSTS $4000 TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION AND $500 FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE. HONDA ODYSSEY STINKS!!! *TR
THE KEY WOULD FREQUENTLY FALL OUT OF THE LOCK, OR GET STUCK IN THE LOCK. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE INTERLOCK LEVER IN THE IGNITION SWITCH. WE WERE UNABLE TO IMMEDIATELY BRING OUR VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIR BECAUSE IT WAS OUR SOLE SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION. WHILE I WAS AWAY IN CALIFORNIA ATTENDING MY AUNT'S MEMORIAL, THE KEY TO THE VEHICLE FAILED TO FUNCTION WHETHER IN PARK OR OTHERWISE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER BROKE THE KEY OFF IN THE LOCK TRYING TO GET THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, BECAUSE THE SWITCH WOULD NOT PROPERLY RELEASE THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER TO APPLY THE RECALL REPAIR TO THE INTERLOCK LEVER *AND ANY OTHER NECESSARY PART OF THE IGNITION SWITCH* PER THE RECALL NOTICE. AFTER REPLACING THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE DEALER AND HONDA CORPORATE DECIDED THAT THIS WAS NOT A RECALL ISSUE AND REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY PART OF THE REPAIR COST, EVEN THOUGH THE NOTICE CLEARLY STATES THAT REPAIRS TO THE INTERLOCK LEVER AND *ANY NECESSARY PART OF THE IGNITION SWITCH* SHOULD BE COVERED AT NO COST. [XXX] IN THE CASE MANAGEMENT DIVISION OF AMERICAN HONDA CORPORATE (HE REFUSED TO GIVE ME HIS LAST NAME, BUT INDICATED THAT HE WAS THE ONLY [XXX] IN THAT DIVISION) AND [XXX] AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, CROWN HONDA OF GREENSBORO, BOTH REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS REPAIR AND FORCED US TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR THE REPAIR IN ORDER TO RELEASE MY VAN. THE RECALL NOTICE CLEARLY STATES THAT NOT ONLY THE FAULTY INTERLOCK LEVER BUT ANY NECESSARY PART OF THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD BE REPLACED AT NO COST. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER THERE WERE OTHER ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. IT WAS STILL SPECIFICALLY STATED IN THE RECALL NOTICE THAT THIS WOULD BE COVERED AT NO COST. APPARENTLY, HONDA DOES NOT FEEL THAT IT HAS TO HONOR THE RECALL NOTICE IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER MINOR MECHANICAL ISSUES EXISTING IN THE IGNITION ASSEMBLY. RECEIVED NEWS FROM A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP THAT ALL 4 ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN FOR A COST OF $925. WHEN LOOKING FOR PARTS HAPPEN TO SEE THE AMOUNT OF CHATTER REGARDING ENGINE MOUNTS ON SEVERAL MODEL YEARS OF THE ODYSSEY. LESSON LEARNED... PERHAPS CHECK THIS SITE BEFORE BUYING ANY VEHICLE. SEEMS HONDA SHOULD COVER SOME OF THE COST AT LEAST. *JS

I WAS COMING OUT OF APARTMENT PARKING LOT AND SUDDENLY CAR STOPPED. I HAVE TO TOWED CAR TO HERB CHAMBER OF HONDA IN WESTBOROUGH, MA. TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT IT IS A COMPUTER FAILURE. CAR SEEMED TO SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN WHEN APPROACHING STOP SIGNAL. TRIED TO PULL AWAY WHEN LIGHT WAS GREEN, BUT REMAINED STATIONARY AFTER PRESSING ON GAS/ACCELERATOR THREE TO FOUR TIMES. FINALLY WAS ABLE CREEP ALONG UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO STEER INTO A BANK PARKING LOT. HONDA DEALER DIAGNOSED ;PROBLEM AS FAULTY TRANSMISSION DUE TO OVERHEATED/BURNTOUT OF SOLENOIDS. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED UPON ENTERING THE FREEWAY. VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND FORCED TO PULL OVER. ALMOST REAR ENDED BY OTHER CARS ALSO ENTERING THE FREEWAY. HONDA ODYSSEYS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND THIS BODY STYLE 1999 TO 2004 ARE DEFECTIVE. FROM MY READINGS A LARGE QUANTITY OF THE TRANSMISSIONS FAILED AT 80,000 SO AT LEAST WE MADE IT TO 125,000 MILES. I REGULARLY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. SPENT $3200 AT AAMCO GETTING IT FIXED. *TR
TWO SEVERAL SECTIONS OF PAINT STARTED PEELING OFF WITHOUT CORROSION OR SCRATCH. AREAS AFFECTED: HOOD, ROOF, NEAR THE BACK WINDOWS AND SLIDING DOORS. THE PEELING ARE MAJOR ON THE ROOF. THIS SEEMS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE DARK BLUE HONDA ODYSSEYS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER BUT SAID BECAUSE IT'S 9 YEARS OLD THEY WEREN'T OBLIGATED TO FIX IT. *TR

I TOOK OUR 2004 ODYSSEY MINI VAN TO OUR HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH. WHILE THERE, THE DEALERSHIP IDENTIFIED THREE OF THE FOUR ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN, RESULTING IN A $858.78 REPAIR. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT UNCOMMON IN VEHICLES WITH 100,000. WE'VE HAD CARS MUCH OLDER THAN THIS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM! IF IT'S "NOT UNCOMMON" IN HONDA ODYSSEYS, I THINK IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. PERHAPS ANOTHER RECALL FROM HONDA IS DUE. *TR
ABOUT MAY 2013, I NOTICED THE PAINT PEELING FROM THE AREA NEAR THE BACK WINDOWS. WHEN I TOLD THE TECHNICIAN AT HONDA ROSEVILLE, HE JUST SAID IT WAS WEAR AND TEAR. IT CAN'T BE WEAR AND TEAR IN THE UPPER FRAME OF THE WINDOWS. IF IT IS NOT ADDRESSED SOON, THE PAINT WILL CONTINUE PEELING UP TO THE ROOF AREA. WE USED HONDA ODYSSEY [2004] DAILY FOR COMMUTING (NEVER TOWED ANYTHING AND DON'T HAUL ANYTHING). THE CAR WOULD START MOVING AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN WOULD STOP MOVING FORWARD. THE CAR WAS SUDDENLY STUCK IMMEDIATELY AFTER CROSSING THE INTERSECTION. I WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR IN ANY DIRECTION AND STUCK ON THE ROAD. ON DUTY POLICE OFFICER INFORMED THAT I NEED TO MOVE THE CAR AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. HE WANTED TO CALL THE TOWING TRUCK, BUT AT THAT TIME I TRIED SHIFTING FROM TO PARK AND BACK TO DRIVE IT WOULD MOVE FORWARD FOR FEW HUNDRED FEET AND AGAIN SAME THING NO FORWARD MOTION. AT THAT TIME I WAS ON DOWN THE HILL AND SO ABLE TO PULL THE CAR NEAR ONE BUSINESS PARK. LATER, I TOWED THE CAR TO NEAR BY SHOP AND FOUND TRANSMISSION FAILURE. HONDA MOTOR COMPANY REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING. WHEN I FOUND RECALL FOR THE SAME ISSUE, HONDA MOTOR COMPANY SAID THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON MY CAR. HONDA DEALER IS CHARGING $5,600 TO FIX THIS. 8TR

WE WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH THE MATTER AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE ACTUALLY A LOT OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING SIMILAR ISSUE FROM OTHER HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS PARTICULARLY FROM 2003 TO 2007 HONDA ODYSSEY.
