TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AT NIGHT, THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT BULB, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SIDE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULB WAS REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTO ELECTRIC SHOP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.
MY 3 YEAR OLD SON SITS IN A BOOSTER SEAT, DRIVER'S SIDE, IN THE 2ND ROW SEATS OF OUR 05 ODYSSEY EX-L. THIS MODEL HAS ELECTRIC SLIDING DOORS ON BOTH SIDES. MY SON ROUTINELY OPENS AND CLOSES THE DOOR BY PULLING THE HANDLE AFTER ASKING PERMISSION. ON THIS OCCASION, HE WAS SEATED IN HIS SEAT AND BUCKLED IN WHEN HE STARTED THE DOOR CLOSING. ABOUT 10 SECONDS LATER, AS THE DOOR WAS COMPLETING IT'S LATCHING, HE STARTED SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS. HIS LEFT HAND WAS CAUGHT AT THE BACK EDGE OF THE DOOR BETWEEN THE WEATHERSTRIP AND THE DOOR ITSELF. I HAD TO OPEN THE DOOR WITH THE DASH MOUNTED BUTTON TO RELEASE HIS HAND. UPON EXAMINATION BY HIS MOTHER AND ME, ONE OF HIS FINGERS WAS SCRATCHED A BIT AND THEY HURT, BUT NO INDICATIONS OF MORE SERIOUS INJURY, THANKS TO GOD. I'VE ALWAYS BEEN A BIT CONCERNED ABOUT THE FRONT OF THE DOOR CATCHING OR PINCHING SOMEONE, BUT NEVER REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THE BACK OF THE DOOR AS IT PULLS IN TO LATCH. UPON TESTING MYSELF AFTER THIS, IT ACTUALLY TAKES A FAIR AMOUNT OF FORCE BACK THERE TO MAKE THE DOOR REVERSE. A CHILD'S' FINGERS WILL BE NO MATCH FOR IT. I THINK HONDA (AND PROBABLY OTHERS) NEEDS TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS AND SAFETY OF AUTOMATIC DOORS ON MINIVANS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A WHISTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE WINDSHIELD. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 47,000.
I RECENTLY TURNED THE VEHICLE FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER QUICKLY. THE STEERING SEEMED TO FAIL (GOT VERY HARD) THEN RECOVERED AFTER A FEW SECONDS. I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR WARRANTY SERVICE WITH A FEW OTHER PROBLEMS AT WEST HILLS HONDA IN BREMERTON, WA. THEY TOOK CARE OF ONE PROBLEM, BUT COULDN'T ADJUST THE MISALIGNED GLOVE BOX AND MOST DISCONCERTING OF ALL, COULD NOT FIX THE STEERING PROBLEM. THEY ACTUALLY DID REPLICATE THE SAME PROBLEM I HAD. THEY SAID THEY ALSO REPLICATED IT ON OTHER ODYSSEY'S. THEY CALLED HONDA ENGINEERS AND WERE TOLD THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP COULD NOT KEEP UP WITH THE DEMAND, BUT IT IS NORMAL AND THERE IS NO FIX NECESSARY! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS INOPERATIVE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V344000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS AND THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 48,000.
A STRONG VIBRATION OCCURS WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR. THE DRIVER MUST ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE TO STOP THE RUMPLING. EVENTUALLY THE TRANSMISSION FAILS. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AND HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS AS EVIDENCED BY REPORTS TO EDMUNDS. HONDA SAYS IT IS NORMAL. *TR
A WHISTLE DEVELOPED AROUND THE WINDSHIELD. DEALER SAID PILLAR MOLDING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. REPLACEMENTS WERE INSTALLED AT OWNERS EXPENSE, BUT DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. DEALER THEN SAID THE COWL SEEMED TO BE WARPED. DEALER REPLACED, THIS TIME AT THEIR EXPENSE, AND FIXED PROBLEM. SAID SEAL HAD COME LOOSE UNDER COWL. *TR
HONDA ODYSSEY SHUDDERS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS BETWEEN 20 AND 40 MPH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 2+ YEARS AND AM NOW TOLD THAT TRANSMISSION IS IN DANGER. *TR
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY TAILGATE HINGE FAILURE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE TAILGATE FELL ONTO HER WHILE SHE WAS REACHING INTO THE BACK OF THE VAN. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT TAILGATE SUPPORT MALFUNCTIONED AND REPLACED IT. *KB
SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING: WHEN ENGINE IS AT IDLE SPEED (AS WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING PLACE), THERE IS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING WHEN TRYING TO TURN THE WHEEL QUICKLY (AS IN TRYING TO AVOID AN INCIDENT). THIS CAN HAVE MINOR TO SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES DEPENDING ON WHAT YOU MAY BE TRYING TO AVOID. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM BASED ON INTERNET POSTINGS. *TR
BRAKES, WHEN APPLIED AT SPEEDS OVER 60MPH CAUSE THE VAN TO WOBBLE UNCONTROLLABLY. BRAKES ALSO "WHINE" WHEN SLOWING ON APPROACH AND INTO A PARKING SPACE. DEALER HAS RESPONDED THAT THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE ISSUES, SO NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. ISSUES HAVE CONTINUED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS.*CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. HE OBSERVED THAT THE TREAD ON ALL FOUR TIRES WAS WORN. THE CONTACT OWNS RUN FLAT MICHELIN ENERGY LX PAX TIRES. THE TIRE SIZE IS 235-710R-460A. THE TIRE PRESSURE IS 33 ON THE FRONT AND 35 ON THE REAR. THE TREAD ON THE FRONT, REAR PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE TIRES TREAD ARE WORN. THE TREADS ARE WEARING ON THE TIRES FASTER THAN NORMAL. A LOCAL TIRE DEALER STATED THAT ONLY HONDA CAN DIAGNOSE THE TIRE FAILURE DUE TO THE SPECIAL METRIC RIMS. THE DEALER AND TIRE MANUFACTURER HAVE ADVISED HIM TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO PURCHASE TIRES. THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE ARE REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED TWO TO THREE TIMES A YEAR COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL TIRES. HONDA GAVE A QUOTE OF $2,000 TO REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES. HE WAS NOT ADVISED AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED OF THE ADDITIONAL COST TO CHANGE THE TIRES OR THAT THE TIRES LAST HALF AS LONG AS NORMAL TIRES. THE CONTACT ASKED HONDA TO REPLACE THE CURRENT 710 RIMS WITH CONVENTIONAL 17 INCH RIMS; HOWEVER, HE HASN'T RECEIVED A RESPONSE. THE CONTACT FILED COMPLAINT/CASE NUMBER, N012008-01-0201951 WITH THE MANUFACTURERS CUSTOMER CARE CENTER. HE ALSO SPOKE WITH THE TIRE MANUFACTURER AND AN ATTORNEY. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 6,000.
THE WIRELESS HEADPHONES DO NOT WORK FOR THE DVD PLAYER. THERE IS ONLY A HISSING "WHITE" NOISE. I KNOW MANY ODYSSEY OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND TOOK HER VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED AT THE DEALER'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THEY STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SUSPENSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L - AROUND 50K MILES, THE POWER STEERING WAS INTERMITTENTLY HARD, ESPECIALLY IN PARKING LOTS. VERY LITTLE ASSIST. AROUND 64K, OUR MECHANIC PURGED THE P/S PUMP OF FLUID AND THE PROBLEM REMAINED. MECHANIC REPLACED OUR P/S PUMP WHICH SEEMED TO WORK INITIALLY, BUT PERHAPS BECAUSE THE ISSUE WAS INTERMITTENT. PROBLEM RETURNED. WE NOW HAVE 104K ON THE CAR AND LIVE WITH THE ISSUE OF HARD STEERING, ESPECIALLY WHEN PARKING. HARD STEERING MEANS THAT I NEED TO USE BOTH HANDS TO TURN THE WHEEL IN THE PARKING LOT. *TR
THE A/C CONDENSER HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE DUE TO IT BEING PUNCTURED FROM EVERY DAY WEAR AND TEAR. AFTER THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT, THE DEALERSHIP INSTALLED A PROTECTIVE SHIELD OVER THE UNIT TO PROTECT IT FROM FURTHER DAMAGE. I FEEL THIS WAS AN ENGINEERING FLAW AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED THE $678.81 THAT I HAVE SPENT HAVING THESE CONDENSERS REPLACED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS A WIDE OPENING ON THE LOWER GRILL OF THE VEHICLE. A ROCK ENTERED THE GRILL AND CREATED A HOLE IN THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER, WHICH CAUSED A LEAK. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER. THE CONTACT RESEARCHED THE FAILURE AND FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 61,000. UPDATED 12-12-07. *KB
I HAVE TWICE HAD MY AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER GO OUT ON MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY, ONCE WHEN IT WAS 2 MONTHS OLD AND NOW AGAIN AS IT IS THREE YEARS OLD (37,000 MILES). THE DEALER SAYS IT IS FROM ROCKS HITTING THE CONDENSER UNIT. I FEEL THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM (SEE HTTP://WWW.TOPIX.NET/FORUM/AUTOS/HONDA-ODYSSEY/TJBOPFUR3SVARKHCJ), BUT HONDA THUS FAR IS NOT ADDRESSING IT AS A RECALL PROBLEM. THEY ARE MAKING PEOPLE PAY TO HAVE THEM REPAIRED. THEY COVERED MY FIRST ONE BECAUSE THE VAN WAS ONLY TWO MONTHS OLD, BUT THE SECOND ONE IS NOT COVERED. *JB
TODAY I AM TOLD BY LOCAL HONDA DEALERS SERVICE SHOP THAT MY AC CONDENSER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED DUE TO ROAD DEBRIS (PROBABLY A ROCK) AND THE COST WILL BE OVER $900. I HAVE A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH LESS THAN 30,000 MILES. OF COURSE THIS HAPPENED WHEN WE WERE OUT OF TOWN AND DROVE HOME IN 95+ DEGREE TEMPERATURES. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THE VERY SAME COMPLAINT. APPARENTLY IT IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF. NOW I AM FACED WITH PAYING IT ALL OUT OF POCKET OR USING MY INSURANCE WITH ITS $500 DEDUCTIBLE AFTER HAVING BEEN TOLD THAT OUR COVERAGE COULD VERY WELL GO UP IN THE FUTURE BECAUSE OF IT (YET INSURANCE COMPANY COULD NOT SAY HOW MUCH OR WHEN). I AM BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE... MUCH LIKE THE POORLY DESIGNED HONDA AC CONDENSER. *JB
SMALL ROCK DAMAGED AC CONDENSER. THIS CLEARLY IS THE DESIGN FLAW OF THE VEHICLE. THERE IS NO PROTECTIVE GRILL FOR THE FRAGILE AC CONDENSER. IT'S COST $600 TO REPLACE THE CONDENSER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH IN THE RAIN, ANOTHER VEHICLE SPLASHED A LARGE AMOUNT OF WATER UNDERNEATH THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. HE HEARD A LOUD THUMPING SOUND AND 30 SECONDS LATER THE BATTERY INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS THEN SIMULTANEOUSLY ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE HARMONIC BALANCER FELL FROM THE ENGINE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 37,000. UPDATED 01-14-08. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE HARMONIC BALANCER CAME APART DISLODGING THE BOTTOM PULLEY SHAFT WHICH THREW OFF THE SERPENTINE BELT. DEALERSHIP TELLING ME THAT MY AC ISN'T WORKING DUE TO A ROCK HITTING THE CONDENSER, & THAT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON LINE AND HAVE CAME ACROSS DOZENS & DOZENS OF PEOPLE THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFAULT AND THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE US PAY THE PRICE. *TR
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS WIDE OPENING WHERE CONDENSER SITS - ALLOWING ROCKS TO DAMAGE IT. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CONDENSER TWICE IN A 6 MONTH PERIOD BECAUSE OF THIS ROCK PROBLEM. $750.00 TO FIX. AMERICAN HONDA WILL NOT ADMIT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW NOR WILL THEY COVER THE COSTS. DRIVING THROUGH THE DESERT IN 100 DEGREE WEATHER WITH 3 YOUNG CHILDREN AND NO A/C IS RIDICULOUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND WITHIN SECONDS, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ELEVEN TIMES IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. THE WIRING HARNESS, ENGINE COMPUTER AND SOLENOIDS A-B WERE REPLACED TWICE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO EXHIBIT THE FAILURE AND WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING, MICHELIN PAX TIRE SYSTEM IS A CONSUMER RIP OFF. THE TIRE WEAR IS NOWHERE NEAR WHAT IS CLAIMED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND THE RUBBER COMPOUND IS SO SOFT THAT THEY ARE PUNCTURED BY EVERY NAIL OR SCREW ON THE ROAD. EVERY FLAT COSTS A MINIMUM OF $50.00 TO FIX BECAUSE OF THE JEL-PACK REQUIRED WHEN PATCHING. HONDA DOES NOT PROVIDE A SPARE TIRE OR EVEN A DONUT SPARE FOR EMERGENCIES. THE TIRES ARE SUPPOSED TO RUN FLAT FOR 125 MILES AT 50 MILES PER HOUR. IN RURAL ARIZONA, 125 MILES WON,T GET YOU ANYWHERE NEAR ONE OF THEIR " AUTHORIZED, PROPRIETARY " REPAIR PLACES. I FIND THAT THIS AUTO IS TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ANY PLACE NOT NEAR A REPAIR STATION. *TR
FRONT RH WHEEL BEARING PREMATURE WEAR @ TEAR, REPLACED TWICE. LOWER TRANS. MOUNT REPLACED, FALL APART CAUSING FRONT END TO SHAKE. *TR
THERE WAS NO SINGLE EVENT LEADING TO THE FAILURE OF THE AC CONDENSER. I HAVE A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY ON WHICH THE AC SYSTEM HAS FAILED DUE TO A LEAKING CONDENSER. THIS HAS HAPPENED UNDER NORMAL OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENTS. IT HAPPENED ON THE HOTTEST PERIOD OF THE SUMMER AND HAS CAUSED UNDUE DISCOMFORT AND COST. HONDA, WHEN CONTACTED, SAID THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY CATASTROPHIC CAUSE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED IN DUE COURSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION EMITTED A GRINDING NOISE WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS OVER 5 MPH. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS INTENDED. THE VEHICLE WAS EVENTUALLY TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,000. UPDATED 04/26/12*LJ
I PURCHASED MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY NEW IN NOVEMBER 2004, THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 43,000 MILES ON IT AND AFTER MY OIL CHANGE TODAY I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT STRUTS WERE LEAKING BADLY. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL CARS AND STRUTS NORMALLY GIVE WAY AFTER 80 - 100 K MILES. SOMEONE COULD END UP IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF IT REQUIRED IMMEDIATE STOPPING OR CONERING. *JB
I DROVE MY VAN UP TO THE GOAT PEN. PUT THE VAN IN PARK, LEFT IT RUNNING WALKED IN FRONT OF THE VAN AND CROSSED OVER TO THE GATE. I STOOD IN FRONT OF THE GOAT PEN FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. VAN STARTED MOVING FORWARD- HIT A TREE. THANK GOD I WAS NOT IN FRONT OF IT. *TR
ROLLING SIDE DOORS - AND REAR HATCH STRUTS MASSIVE PROBLEMS. BOUGHT CAR IN JAN 2006, NEW. IN 2007 ONE OF THE SIDE DOORS QUIT ROLLING. HAD TO HAVE THE ROLLER REPLACED - COST OVER $700. THEN A YEAR LATER, THE OTHER SIDE ROLLING DOOR WENT OUT. THEN, THE REAR HATCH STRUTS TOTALLY GAVE WAY AND THE REAR HATCH CAME SLAMMING DOWN ABOUT 2 INCHES FROM MY 7 YEAR OLDS HEAD. I CALLED DEALER - HONDA CARLAND IN ROSWELL - THEY COULD CARE LESS. UNTIL I HAD TO RAISED THE ROOF WITH HONDA CORPORATE BEFORE ANYBODY WOULD OFFER TO COVER THE COST TO REPLACE STRUTS. FOR CERTAIN, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS INJURY TO SOMEONE'S HEAD IF IT FELL ON THEM. AFTER THE HATCH, THEN CAME THE THIRD SLIDING DOOR PROBLEM, AGAIN I HAD TO FIX THE DOOR. SO, THREE DOOR FIXES AT OVER $700 EACH. NOW, IN 2013 FOR THE FOURTH TIME DOOR IS GOING OUT AGAIN. I AM TRADING THE CAR IN BEFORE HAVING IT FIXED. *TR
BRAKES GROAN AND SHUDDER WHEN APPLYING SIGNIFICANT PRESSURE. DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE OR SERVICE BRAKES UNLESS I PAID FOR TOTAL COST. I PAID FOR COST OF REPLACING PADS AND MACHINING ROTORS OUT OF POCKET. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 50-60 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THEY ADVISED ME TO ORDER A AFTERMARKET BILLITE GRILL FROM E BAY AND THIS WILL KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. I DID AND THIS COST ME $104.00. I DID A SEARCH IN THE INTERNET AND FOUND THIS IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF PEOPLE IN ALL AREAS OF THE COUNTRY. AFTER RESEARCHING FURTHER THE OBVIOUS CAUSE OF THIS WAS AN ENGINEERING DESIGN FLAW .- THE A/C CONDENSER WAS COMPLETELY EXPOSED TO ALL THE ELEMENTS OF THE ROAD WITH NO GRILLE/PROTECTION IN FRONT OF IT. HONDA SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND INSTALL A GRILLE IN FRONT OF THE CONDENSER TO PROTECT IT, AND REIMBURSE THOSE OF US WHO HAVE PAID TO HAVE CONDENSERS REPLACED DUE TO THEIR ERROR. UPON A VISIT TO LOCAL HONDA DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT A ROCK/ROAD DEBRIS PUNCTURED THE AC CONDENSER AND THE REPAIR ESTIMATE RUNS ABOUT $ 700.00. IN A PROCESS OF CALLING 5 OTHER LOCAL HONDA DEALERS TRYING TO GET A BETTER PRICING, I LEARNED THAT MY CASE IS NOT THAT RARE AS IT MAY SOUND. I WAS TOLD THAT ON AVERAGE THEY REPLACE ABOUT 2-3 AC CONDENSERS A MONTH. THEN I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND MUCH MORE ODYSSEY'S OWNER WITH IDENTICAL STORIES. MY ISSUE IS THAT 2005-2007 ODYSSEY HAS A DESIGN FLAW - TOO BIG OPENING UNDER THE BUMPER THAT ALLOWS ANY ROAD DEBRIS TO PENETRATE AC CONDENSER AND/OR RADIATOR. THE REGIONAL MANAGER CALLED ME AND GAVE A SEEMINGLY REHEARSED SPEECH OF HOW THIS WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. AFTER A SEARCH ONLINE, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE MANY MANY PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL. THIS RESULTED IN A LEAK OF THE AIR CONDITIONER COOLANT AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE CONDENSER UNIT AT APPROXIMATELY $700. AMERICAN HONDA WILL NOT COVER UNDER THEIR VEHICLE WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY CLAIM IT IS DUE TO A ROAD HAZARD AND NOT FROM A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE AND BELIEVE THIS IS A LATENT DESIGN DEFECT, THAT FROM A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH, APPEARS TO BE OCCURRING REGULARLY ON SEVERAL HONDA MODELS. MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A NEW HONDA ODYSSEY VAN IN 2005 WHICH WAS EQUIPPED WITH PAX RUNFLAT TIRES. AT THE TIME, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE TIRES WOULD WEAR LIKE REGULAR NON RUN-FLAT TIRES, AND WOULD BE 10-15% MORE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT ALL HONDA DEALERS WOULD HAVE THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT TO SERVICE THESE SPECIAL TIRES. NONE OF THESE STATEMANTS HAS PROVEN TO BE TRUE. THE TIRES ARE ALL WORN OUT AT 31K MILES, AND WE WERE QUOTED A PRICE OF $1300 PLUS TAX TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. WORSE YET, OUR NEARTEST DEALER (FLAGSTAFF HONDA) DOES NOT HAVE THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENT TO SERVICE THEM 2 YEARS AFTER THEIR RELEASE. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, WE NOW HAVE A FLAT AND GETTIGN IT FIXED WILL REQUIRE US TO DRIVE 50 MPH ON A BUSY INERSTATE (WHERE EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING 80+MPH) WHICH I REFUSE TO DO. BECAUSE OF ALL THESE PROBLEMS, I HAVE ELECTED TO PURCHASE NEW RIMS, TIRES AND PRESSURE SENSORS (PLUS A SPARE TIRE) ALL OF WHICH WILL COST OVER $1000. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A DEFECT AND THE TIRE SYSTEM WAS NOT FAIRLY EXPLAINED, WITH ALL IT'S SHORTCOMINGS OR WE WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THIS MODEL.
VAN ALWAYS HAS A GRINDING NOISE WHEN YOU PUT THE BRAKES ON HARD. IT APPEARS TO BE ONLY ON THE FRONT. WHEN IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER, THE TECH RODE WITH US TO HEAR THE NOISE AND REPLACED THE ROTORS & RESURFACED THE DISCS BASED ON THE HONDA TECH LINE. THE TECH INDICATED THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE HONDA VANS, AS THE FRONT OF THE VAN IS TOO HEAVY FOR THE BRAKES THAT ARE PROVIDED BY HONDA. IN LESS THAN 10,000 MORE MILES, IT WAS MAKING THAT NOISE AND STILL IS. WHEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE MULTI POINT INSPECTION, THEY ALWAYS INDICATE THAT THE BRAKES HAVE PLENTY LEFT. IT GRINDS EVERYTIME YOU PUT THE BRAKES ON AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THE OLDER CARS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE WORN DOWN COMPLETELY. *TR
