DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. NO WARNING SIGNAL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO DETERMINED THE FRONT WHEEL PADS WERE WORN OUT AND THE TWO FRONT ROTORS WERE MACHINED. AFTER 4000 MILES, THE PROBLEM RECURRED AND THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE FRONT WHEELS BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OUT AND REPLACED THEM AGAIN. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND THE FRONT SHAKING WAS NOTICED NINE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OPENED A CASE WITH THE COMMITMENT OF CALLING BACK PROMPTLY WHICH HAS NOT HAPPENED. THERE WAS A WIND NOISE COMING FROM THE WINDSHIELD AND THE LEFT SLIDING DOOR. THE REAR SEAT BELT WAS RIPPED. UPDATED 11/14/06. *JB
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE HEADLIGHTS RUNNING ON DIM ON HILLY COUNTY TYPE ROADS MAKE NO LIGHT ABOVE ABOUT 10 FEET. WHEN GOING DOWN AN INCLINE AS THE VAN IS TILTED FORWARD THE LIGHTS SHINE DIRECTLY INTO THE ROAD WITH NO SIGN OF LIGHT FORWARD TO SEE THE ROAD AHEAD. CONTACTED THE DEALER AND HONDA THEY SAY THIS IS NORMAL. *JB
WELDS BETWEEN THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL WELL AND THE VEHICLE FLOOR FAILED/CRACKED RESULTING IN WATER LEAKING INTO THE VAN AT THIS SITE. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THIS 3 TIMES WITHOUT SUCCESS. THEY DETERMINED THE WELDS WERE CRACKED AND REWELDED THIS SEAM. IT IS NOT KNOWN IF THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM AS THE VAN HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN IN THE RAIN SINCE THE LAST REPAIR.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE IS A LOUD GRINDING NOISE HEARD WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES. EXTRA PRESSURE IS NEEDED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SUFFICIENTLY STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE FOUR TIMES AND DETERMINED THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE DUPLICATED.
SMALL ROCK HIT THE AIR CONDITIONER CONDENSER ON MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY (WITH APPROXIMATELY 12,000 MILES), CAUSING A HOLE IN THE CONDENSER. THE CONDENSER IS LOCATED JUST BEHIND THE FRONT LICENSE PLATE AND IS UNPROTECTED. WENT IMMEDIATELY TO HONDA DEALER WHEN I SAW AND SMELLED FREON COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VAN. PAID AROUND $800 TO REPLACE THE CONDENSER. DEALER SAID THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THE CONDENSER IS NOT PROTECTED BECAUSE OF A POOR DESIGN.*JB
LIFTGATE SUDDENLY DROPPED CLOSED. DIFFICULT TO SUBSEQUENTLY OPEN- VERY HEAVY, AND WOULD NOT STAY IN OPEN POSITION. FLUID FROM STRUT MECHANISM LEAKING. SERIOUS INJURY COULD HAVE OCCURRED IF ANYONE WAS STANDING UNDER THE LIFTGATE. THE LIFTGATE IS VERY HEAVY. MECHANISMS REPLACED BY DEALER. *JB
1) EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE, THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. (2) FAILURE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES, AND AS SOON CAR WAS PUT IN PARK AND TURNED OFF, WHITE SMOKE CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, TURNING TO BLACK SMOKE AND FIRE WITHIN ONE MINUTE. WHOLE ENGINE, DASH AND FRONT OF CAR WAS DESTROYED IN THE FIRE. (3) WHAT WAS DONE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE; I.E, PARTS REPAIRED OR REPLACED (AND IF OLD PART IS AVAILABLE) CAR WAS TOTALED. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE MAKING U-TURNS, AT 5 MPH, A NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE BRAKE CLIP ON THE PASSENGER FRONT WAS REPLACED. THE NOISE PERSISTED AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING PUMP ON A SECOND VISIT. THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING PUMP DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR DID NOT CLOSE PROPERLY, THE RIGHT SIDE DOOR SEAL WAS BROKE. UPDATED 05/23/06. *JB
THE MICHELIN PAX TIRE SYSTEM: HONDA USED THIS PAX SYSTEM ON TOURING VERSIONS OF THE ODYSSEY MINI VAN IN 2005 (AND BEYOND BUT MINE IS A 2005). THESE TIRES WEAR EXTREMELY FAST AND UNEVENLY. THEY ARE EITHER AN EXTREMELY POOR DESIGN OR ARE DEFECTIVE. REPLACEMENTS CAN ONLY BE FOUND AT HONDA DEALERS. THIS IS MOSTLY AN ANNOYANCE AND ENDS UP COSTING THE OWNER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS MORE OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, IT MAY LEAD TO SAFETY ISSUES IN THE EVENT THE AVERAGE OWNER DOESN'T THINK TO CHECK THEIR TIRES AS FREQUENTLY AT A RATE THAT WOULD CATCH A PROBLEM. *TR
BOUGHT A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY ON 7/1/05. ON 4/4/06, THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO INCIDENTAL DAMAGE FROM A ROAD DEBRIS (PROBABLY A ROCK) PUNCTURING IT AND LEAKING THE FREON OUT. ON 4/28/08, THE SAME THING HAS OCCURRED. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, I HAVE FOUND MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE CONDENSER COILS ARE ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WITH NO PROTECTION FROM ROAD DEBRIS (E.G., A MESH OR WIRE SCREEN). *TR
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY: GROANING AND GRINDING NOISE WHEN BREAKING ESP WHEN DRIVEN FOR A LONG TRIP. BREAK STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASE. COMPLAINED TO HONDA BUT HONDA SAID ITS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN BREAKING AND NOT STOPPING IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE PLEASE INVESTIGATE. *NM
MY BRAKE FLUID IS LEAKING FROM THE FRONT CALIPERS OF MY BRAND NEW VAN. HONDA HAS REPLACED THE PADS TWICE AND THE CALIPERS ONCE ALREADY. I HAD TO ADD OVER A PINT OF FLUID TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF - IT IS NOW LEAKING OUT AGAIN. IS THIS NOT A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE? I GET LITTLE CONCERN FROM MY DEALER OTHER THAN A REMARK TO BRING THE THING BACK IN AGAIN AND AGAIN WITH NO EXPLANATION OR PERMANENT FIX. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60MPH THE VEHICLE RAN OVER ROAD DEBRIS. A SHORT TIME LATER THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR ERROR LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE FRONTAL DRIVER SIDE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WAS MISSING.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY (14500 MILES) AT 60 MPH ON A SMOOTH DRY HIGHWAY WHEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE EXPLODED. THE TIRE SEPARATED INTO THREE PARTS, LEFT AND RIGHT SIDEWALL AND TREAD. THE TIRE WAS A MICHELIN ENERGY LX4 235-65-16, ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON THE ODYSSEY. INFLATION PRESSURE WAS NORMAL, HAVING BEEN CHECKED TWO DAYS EARLIER. TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 65 DEG. THERE WERE FOUR WOMEN WITH THEIR WEEKEND LUGGAGE ON BOARD, CERTAINLY WEIGHING LESS THAN THE RATED LOAD OF THE VEHICLE AND THE TIRES. SINCE SHE WAS 200 MILES FROM HOME, SHE HAD TO BUY ANOTHER TIRE (OFF BRAND) AT THE NEAREST TIRE SHOP. THE FAILED TIRE WAS LATER TAKEN TO DISCOUNT TIRE IN LAKE WORTH, TX FOR REPLACEMENT WITH A CORRECT TIRE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR MOVES AND RATTLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THEY REPLACED THE DOOR TRIM, WINDOW REGULATOR AND ADJUSTED THE DOOR HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACED. POWER STEERING PUMP REPLACEMENT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. POWER STEERING PUMP STILL MAKING NOISE. DEALER DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEM. *JB
HONDA ODYSSEY 2005 POWER STEERING PROBLEM: POWER STEERING FAILS TO WORK AT RANDOM TIMES. IT IS DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VEHICLE WHILE PARKING OR TURNING AT SLOWER SPEEDS. IT HAPPENS AT RANDOM TIMES AND WHEN CAUGHT OFF GUARD MAKES IT FRIGHTENING AND PHYSICALLY DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. HONDA HAS RECOGNIZED THIS IS A PROBLEM IN THEIR SERVICE BULLETIN 07-005 FROM AUGUST 21, 2009 WHICH INCLUDES OUR MODEL YEAR. HOWEVER, HONDA IS REFUSING TO COVER THE $700 EXPENSE OF REPLACING THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND ACCESSORIES BECAUSE WE ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM IS WE HAD SYMPTOMS THEY DESCRIBE SINCE WE HAD THE VEHICLE AT THE BEGINNING BUT THEY NEVER COULD 'REPLICATE' WHAT WE WERE EXPERIENCING. THE FAULTY TUBING THEY USED IN THE SYSTEM ACTUALLY HAS RUINED THE PUMP OVER THE YEARS. HAD THEY RECOGNIZED THIS PROBLEM PREVIOUSLY WE MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SALVAGE THE PUMP, BUT WE DID GET AN ESTIMATE AND HAVE SOMEONE LOOK AT THE PUMP AND THEY ADMITTED IT WAS NEEDING REPLACEMENT. WE USE THIS VEHICLE TO DRIVE OUR FAMILY AND ALTHOUGH IT GENERALLY HAPPENS AT SLOW SPEEDS, THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE SITUATIONS WHERE WE HAVE ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AS WE WERE TURNING AND OUR CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE TURN WE WERE MAKING. EVERYONE I TALK TO THAT HAS THIS VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. HONDA KNOWS THEY PUT IN FAULTY TUBING WHICH DEGRADED TO MAKE LITTLE PIECES LOOSE IN THE FLUID WHICH THEN RUINED THE PUMP. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND ONE THAT WE SHOULD NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR FINANCIALLY. *TR
THE BRAKE MAKES AN LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN EVER IT GETS HOT OR WHENEVER I COME DOWN HILLS. IT HAS HAPPENED A LOT OF TIMES AND I AM NOT SIRE IF THE WILL BE A LOSS OF BRAKING POWER OR SOMETHING. *JB

THE DEALER DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES WAS NOT A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT, BUT AN ONGOING ISSUE THE MANUFACTURER ATTEMPTED TO REDESIGN. THE MANUFACTURER HAS A NEWLY REDESIGNED BRAKE PAD, BUT IT IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR THE NEWLY MANUFACTURED VEHICLES THEREFORE NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS WERE MADE. UPDATED 03/17/06. *JB
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING VAN HAVE THE PAX RUNFLAT TIRES. REPLACED 9 TIRES IN THE FIRST 30,000 MILES. ONE TIRE WAS PUT ON AND IN 2,000 MILES AND IT FAILED (BUBBLE IN SIDE WALL). MICHELIN WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME REGARDING WARRANTY. AFTER TALKING WITH THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER, THEY TOLD ME IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR THIS TIRE TO ONLY GET 30,000 MILES ON THEM BEFORE THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE CALLED MICHELIN AND THEY SAID THIS MILEAGE IS THE NORM. AT $250.00 PER TIRE, SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. *TR
CONTINUOUS BRAKE PROBLEMS! 1ST PROBLEM STARTED IN JUNE 05' @5600 MILES - GRINDING NOISE, PULSATING AND HARD TO STOP VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. SERVICE WRITER EXPLAINED THAT --BRAKE DUST-- WAS THE PROBLEM. 2ND MAJOR PROBLEM - IN SEPTEMBER BRAKES WERE MAKING THE LOUD GRINDING NOISE - WHEN APPLYING BRAKES MODERATELY - LT. FRONT BRAKE LOCKED UP AND SKIDDED 78 FEET. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN @ 8600 MILES AND 1ST DESIGN BRAKE PADS WERE RE-INSTALLED. 3RD PROBLEM - TWO WEEKS LATER - BRAKES WERE GRINDING NON-STOP. TOOK VEHICLE BACK IN SHOP AND THEY REPLACED AGAIN WITH 1ST DESIGN BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS.. -- 2ND DESIGN TO BE PRODUCED IN LATE OCTOBER-- 4TH PROBLEM - BRAKES PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE DURING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 05 @11,000 MILES - TOOK VEHICLE BACK INTO SHOP FOR THE 2ND DESIGN BRAKE PADS AND NEW ROTORS. -- WAS TOLD THAT NEW DESIGN WAS A -- SOFTER -- BRAKE PAD. -- WHEN DRIVING HOME - PULLED UP TO GARAGE DOOR AND VEHICLE ALMOST DID NOT STOP - ** HARD BREAK PEDAL WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS ** SEEM TO NOTICE EVEN MORE WHEN TURNING. 5TH PROBLEM - TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO SHOP A WEEK LATER, TO CHECK OUT BRAKE SYSTEM - UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. 6TH PROBLEM- TOOK VEHICLE BACK INTO SHOP IN DECEMBER 05 - BRAKE WERE INTERMITTENT NOT STOPPING VEHICLE - NUMEROUS TIME I HAVE ALMOST REAR ENDED VEHICLES IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. -- SHOP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. 7TH PROBLEM - TOOK VEHICLE BACK AGAIN IN LATE DECEMBER WITH 14,000 MILES - SHOP STILL UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM. TWO WEEKS LATER WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A PHARMACY DRIVE THROUGH - MY WIFE AND I EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE AGAIN - THIS TIME MY WIFE HAD TO RUN OVER CURB TO AVOID HITTING VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. ** DAMAGED THE FRONT BUMPER ** AND MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE VEHICLE WITH THE --SAFETY-- ISSUES THAT IT DOES HAVE.. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE -- -- VEHICLE HAS BEEN SITTING NOW FOR OVER TWO MONTHS -- NOT DRIVEN -- AND STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS. *NM
UPDATE TO CASE #10155801: SINCE VEHICLE HAD BEEN SITTING FOR OVER TWO MONTHS AND HONDA DID NOT WANT TO FACE THAT VEHICLE HAS SAFETY ISSUES - I DECIDED TO HAVE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE OTHER SHOP IN TOWN FOR A SECOND OPINION. I DROPPED VEHICLE OFF TO HAVE BRAKES DONE W/ OTHER WARRANTY ISSUES AND 9 DAY LATER I PICKED UP VEHICLE AND THEY INSTALLED THE 1ST DESIGN BRAKE PADS. THE ONES WE HAD GRINDING, PULSATING, LOSS OF PRESSURE AND BRAKES THAT WOULD LOCKED UP. I CAN NOT WAIT - GIVE IT A FEW THOUSAND MORE MILES AND HERE I GO AGAIN -- THE FIRST BRAKE PROBLEMS ALL OVER AGAIN. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THE BRAKE ISSUES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR EVEN KILLED. *NM
BRAKE FAILURE. CAR SENT IN FOR REPAIR IN AUGUST 2005 (DEALER GAVE A HANDOUT EXPLAINING WHY BRAKES WERE NOT A PROBLEM), SEPTEMBER 2005 (DEALER REPLACED BRAKES), BRAKES FAILED JANUARY 17, 2006. MY HUSBAND COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. *JB
POOR DESIGN OF 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE AIR CONDITIONER TWICE IN 18 MONTHS DUE TO FLYING ROCK PUNCTURES. HONDA DEALERSHIP KNOWS OF EXACT REPAIR (CHICKEN WIRE) BUT WON'T DO IT. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET ARE EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM. BOTH PUNCTURES HAPPENED DURING WINTER WHEN A/C NOT USED SO INCIDENT DATE IS APPROXIMATE. *JB
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH PAX TIRE SYSTEM - TIRES NEED REPLACEMENT MUCH FREQUENTLY THAN TRADITIONAL TIRES AND ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. HONDA NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THEIR PAX TIRE SYSTEM. *TR
MOST RECENT ON 1/7/2006 WHILE BACKING OUT OF GARAGE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND COMPLETE FAILURE. PUMPED 2 OR 3 TIMES AND BRAKES WORKED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 5 OTHER TIMES, ALWAYS AT A SLOW SPEED, USUALLY WHILE APPROACHING A TURN, TWICE WHILE PULLING UP TO OUR DRIVEWAY. PUMPING BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES BRINGS FULL BRAKING POWER BACK. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR A DAY AND A HALF. AST. SERVICE MANAGER CLAIMED THAT THERE HAD BEEN NO OTHER COMPLAINTS OF FAILURES KNOWN TO HIM. *NM
WHEN TURNING INTO PARKING SPACES OR MAKING OTHER SHARP TURNS, VAN MAKES LOUD GROANING NOISE. HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING DONE: BRAKE DUST BLOWN OUT, ROTORS RESURFACED AND PADS REPLACED, ALL OF WHICH HELPED FOR AWHILE BUT THEN NOISE RETURNS. CAR WAS SHIMMYING WHEN STOPPING FROM FREEWAY SPEEDS BUT THAT HAS STOPPED WHEN BRAKES WERE REPLACED. HONDA CLAIMS NO KNOWLEDGE OF OTHER CARS WITH THIS PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REFERRED THEM TO THESE WEBSITES. I HAVE AN '05 EX WITH ABOUT 45K ON IT. *TR
RIGHT FRONT BRAKE MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHEN BRAKING. CAR IS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT DEALER REFUSES TO REMEDY THE ISSUE AS THEY ARE STATING A REMEDY IS BEING SUPPLIED BY HONDA WITHOUT COMMITMENT AS TO WHEN IT WILL BE ADDRESSED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE.*JB
2005 ODYSSEY - FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT WILL NOT FREE UP TO ALLOW ENOUGH LENGTH TO BUCKLE. IT IS LOCKED IN THE RECOILED POSITION. IT JUST HAPPENED TWO DAYS AGO AND HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. AFTER TWO DAYS IT IS STILL LOCKED IN THE RECOILED POSITION MAKING THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT UNUSABLE. WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO GET IT CORRECTED. OUR VEHICLE JUST CAME OFF OF WARRANTY BUT WE UNDERSTAND THAT HONDA OFFERS A LIFETIME WARRANTY FOR SEAT BELTS. TRUE? *TR
I AM A MEMBER OF THE 05' HONDA ODYSSEY GROWLING CLUB. I STARTED HAVING A VIBRATION - GROWLING NOISE IN THE DRIVELINE @ 60 TO 70 MPH AND @ 2000 RPM. THIS STARTED 7 MONTHS AFTER OWNERSHIP AND 9900 MILES LATER. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED ON THE FORUMS THAT MAY OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ITEM - I HAVE TAKEN INTO SHOP THREE TIMES AND BOTH DEALERSHIPS STATE THAT ALL THE NOISES ARE NORMAL. SOUND APPEARS TO GET LOUDER - IS THAT NORMAL?? *NM

TOOK VEHICLE INTO THE SHOP AND THEY REPLACED BOTH MOLDINGS AND ADJUSTED FENDER. TOOK VEHICLE BACK INTO THE SHOP A MONTH LATER WITH SAME PROBLEM. THEY PREFORMED BULLETIN #04-078. DROVE VEHICLE ADDITIONAL 2000 MILES AND WIND NOISE STARTED AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD OTHER DEALERSHIP IN TOWN TRY TO FIX WINDSHIELD. PICKED UP VEHICLE AND DROVE IT OUT OF TOWN AND RT. WINDSHIELD MOLDINGS CAME LOOSE. PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT DEALERSHIP HAD SCRATCHED AND DENTED FENDER AND WINDSHIELD POST. PULLED BACK THE LOOSE AND FLAPPING MOLDINGS AND NOTICED THAT THEY HAD SHOVED A RED SHOP TOWEL IN THE FENDER/WINDSHIELD AREA TO STOP THE NOISE. **IS THIS PROPER PROCEDURES IN THE REPAIR MANUEL** SHOVING RED SHOP RAGS IN THE FENDERS TO STOP WIND NOISE?? WHAT TO DO NOW - FENDER AND WINDSHIELD POST AND QUARTER NEEDS TO BE REPAINTED - I NOW HAVE LOST VALUE ON VEHICLE BECAUSE VEHICLE WILL BE PAINTED AND WINDSHIELD MOLDING IS HELD ON BY DUCK TAPE. --FYI, WINDSHIELD MOLDINGS ARE ONLY HELD IN WITH DOUBLE SIDED TAPE CLIPS - DOUBLE SIDED TAPE WILL ONLY HOLD FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, BEFORE THEY DETER ATE AND THEY WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED.. FACTORY DID NOT THINK OF THE LONGEVITY OF THE WINDSHIELD MOLDINGS. MANY, MANY MORE PEOPLE WILL CONTINUOUSLY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH WIND NOISE. *NM

DRIVING A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY, DOWN A 2-LANE COUNTRY ROAD AT NIGHT IN NOVEMBER, A DEER WAS IN THE FIELD. I SLOWED DOWN BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE DEER WOULD DO AND THERE WAS ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS GOING TO PASS ME COMING THE OTHER DIRECTION. WHEN THE DEER SAW MY HEADLIGHTS, HE RAN INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE BREAKING THE HEADLIGHT AND DENTING THE PANEL ABOVE THE TIRE. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I GOT OUT TO CHECK THE DAMAGE AND REALIZED THE VAN WAS STILL DRIVABLE. I PUT ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND DROVE SLOWLY LESS THAN 25 MILES PER HOUR. I THAN SAW FLAMES COMING FROM THE HOOD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE BROKEN HEADLIGHT. I PULLED OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE GRASS, TURNED OFF THE CAR, GOT OUT AND CALLED 911. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT CAME, THE VAN WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES UNDER THE HOOD AND THE FLAMES WERE HITTING THE GRASS. THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE POPPED UNDER THE HEAT OF THE FLAMES. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VAN A TOTAL LOSS. INFORMATION FROM INSURANCE COMPANY SAID THE COMPUTER BEHIND THE HALOGEN LIGHT WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. *JB
DURING MODERATE BRAKING, THERE IS A CLANGING NOISE FROM THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE. THIS IS APPARENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE TO HONDA FOR THE 2005 ODYSSEY, BUT WAS DEEMED NOT A SAFETY ISSUE BY INTERNAL ENGINEERS. THEY ARE PENDING A SOLUTION. HOWEVER, ON TWO OCCASIONS, MOST RECENTLY ON 11/6/05, I HAD TO BRAKE HARD, AND THE LOUD NOISE OCCURRED ON THE FROM RIGHT BRAKE, ASSOCIATED WITH SWERVING OF THAT SIDE. THIS INDICATES TO ME THAT BRAKE IS NOT FUNCTIONING OPTIMALLY. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE SWERVING. *NM
DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD. WINDSHIELD HAS WAVES THROUGHOUT CAUSING VISUAL IMPAIRMENT WHILE DRIVING. WAVES ARE VERY PROMINENT ON THE PASSANGER SIDE, BUT LESS OF AN ISSUE BEING THAT THEY ARE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. ONE PROMINENT WAVE THROUGH DRIVER'S SIDE CAUSES HEADACHES AND DIZZINESS DUE TO OPTICAL EFFECT. TAKEN IN TO DEALERSHIP WHO ACKNOWLEDGES THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY REFUSED A REPLACEMENT SAYING THAT THEY ARE ALL DEFECTIVE, SO THERE WOULD BE NO IMPROVEMENT.
2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EX - DRIVING AROUND 45 - 55 MPH, THERE IS A LOUD VIBRATION/GRINDING IS FELT. REPORT PROBLEM TO DEALER - THEY HAVE HEARD ABOUT THIS COMPLAIN FROM OTHER VAN OWNERS BUT NO SOLUTION. *JB
DRIVERS SIDE REAR PASSENGER 'POWER SLIDING DOOR' (PSD) FAILED TO CLOSE, REQUIRING WIFE AND CHILDREN TO DRIVE TO GARAGE WITH OPEN DOOR, AND DOOR ALARM SOUNDING. DOOR CLOSED NORMALLY AT GARAGE, AND NEITHER THAT MECHANIC NOR THE HONDA DEALER COULD FIND ANY PROBLEM WITH DOOR. PROBLEM REPEATED SPORADICALLY THROUGH THE YEARS, AND DEALER COULD NEVER RESOLVE PROBLEM. I DISCOVERED THAT I COULD MANUALLY ASSIST THE DOOR TO CLOSE AND, WITH SEVERAL TRIES, GET IT CLOSED. BECAUSE OF THE HAZARDS IN HAVING TO DRIVE TO A MECHANIC WITH CHILDREN AND AN OPEN PASSENGER DOOR & SCREAMING ALARM, OUR SOLUTION HAS BEEN TO NEVER OPEN THAT DOOR, BUT OCCASIONALLY A PASSENGER HAS UNKNOWINGLY OPENED IT, CAUSING DIFFICULTY CLOSING IT. OVER THE YEARS I'VE OBSERVED THAT THIS FAILURE HAPPENS WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS PARKED ON A NOTICEABLE INCLINE. I SUGGESTED TO THE HONDA SERVICE MANAGER THAT SOME MECHANICAL PART MAY BE LOOSE, CAUSING BINDING IN THE TRACK, BUT HE ALWAYS REPORTED THAT EVERYTHING ABOUT THE MECHANISM WAS "FINE". I DISCOVERED TODAY THAT NHTSA ACTION NUMBER 10016777 AND HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER 204110 WERE ISSUED IN 2005, RELATING TO THIS PROBLEM. THE HONDA DEALER WAS, OR SHOULD HAVE BEEN, AWARE OF THE DEFECT EACH TIME I RETURNED TO THEM TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THIS FLAW SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPAIR: THERE IS A GENUINE SAFETY HAZARD TO A VEHICLE FULL OF CHILDREN WHEN HAVING TO DRIVE TO A GARAGE WHEN A DOOR REFUSES TO CLOSE. *TR
THE PIECE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD TO GET THE WATER TO GO OFF THE TOP OF THE VAN INSTEAD OF THE SIDE WINDOWS, IS BAD. MY DEALER SAID THAT THE MAKER KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN NO REMEDY YET. DUE TO THE BAD PIECES, THE WINDSHIELD WHISTLES ONCE YOU HIT 45 MPH OR HIGHER. I AM TAKING IT IN NOW FOR THE THIRD TIME TO SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT. IN ADDITION TO BEING DISTRACTING WHILE DRIVING, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY RESALE VALUE WHEN THE TIME COMES, IF A PROSPECTIVE OWNER TEST DRIVES IT AND HEARS THAT SOUND. VERY FRUSTRATED AND CAN'T FIND ON THE INTERNET ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WE BOUGHT OUR 2005 ODYSSEY IN NOVEMBER OF 2004. WE HAVE HAD CONSTANT GRINDING/SCRAPING NOISES WITH THE FRONT BRAKES. THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE THE DAY WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN 2005 AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND TENDS TO HAPPEN WHEN TRAVELING DOWN HILL AND COMING TO A STOP. THE NOISE IS GOD AWFUL!!! LOWER SLIDING DOOR SEALS. HAD VEHICLE FOR 6 MONTHS AND 8200 MILES LATER AND I AM STARTING TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH DOORS DRAGGING AND LOWER SEALS NOT STAYING UNDER SCUFF PLATE. TOOK VEHICLE IN LATER OCT. OF 05' TO LUBE DOORS. THEN HAD TO TAKE VEHICLE BACK A MONTH LATER TO HAVE SEAL REPLACED, BECAUSE SLIDING DOOR KEPT HITTING LOWER SEALS CAUSING DOOR NOT TO SHUT AND WIFE HAVING TO DRIVE HOME WITH DOOR OPEN AND KIDS IN THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED IT APPEARED SHE HAD HIT SOMETHING WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
NOTICED AN OSCILLATION (SHIMMY) AT 40+ MPH AROUND 7K MILES THAT PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS. AFTER 4 VISITS TO THE DEALER WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR, WHICH INCLUDED 2 ALIGNMENTS, 2 ROAD FORCE BALANCING AND TIRE ROTATIONS, THE SHIMMY STILL PERSISTS AT 24K MILES. DEALER CANNOT FIX. WILL CONTACT HONDA DIRECTLY. *NM
WE BOUGHT HONDA 2005 ODYSSEY LAST JUNE. ON OCT 4, WE WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. I WAS GOING 40 MPH WHEN SOMEONE IN A FORD F250 PULLED OUT RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME WITH THE SPEED OF 15 MPH (ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT). THE FORD TRUCK CRASHED INTO THE LEFT FRONT SIDE OF THE VAN. ONLY THE TWO FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MY 2-YEAR-OLD BOY WAS SITTING RIGHT BEHIND THE DRIVER' SEAT. HE WAS BUCKLED IN A 5-POINT CAR SEAT. HIS SIDE SLIDING DOOR'S WINDOW (TINTED) SHATTERED AND THE BROKEN GLASS FLEW INTO HIS FACE WITH FORCE. HIS FACE WAS COVERED IN BLOOD AT ONCE. AT THE ER, THE DOCTOR HAD TO USE X-RAY AND DUG OUT CHUNKS OF GLASSES OUT OF HIS FACE. HE GOT 30 PLUS STITCHES AND WILL NEED TO HAVE PLASTIC SURGERIES LATER DUE TO FLESH LOSS AND BIG CUTS ON THE LEFT-SIDE OF HIS FACE. IF THE WINDOW DIDN'T SHATTER AND FLY WITH FORCE, MY BOY SHOULD HAVE BEEN UNHURT IN THIS ACCIDENT. AS A FAMILY VEHICLE, ODYSSEY SHOULD HAVE SHATTER-PROOF WINDOWS. WE BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR DEFECT AND WOULD LIKE TO START AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISSUE. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO HEAR FROM YOU. WE STILL HAVE THE VAN AT THE REPAIR SHOP UNTOUCHED. THE VAN IS GOING TO BE TOTALED. IF YOU NEED TO HAVE A LOOK AT THE VAN, WE WILL BE HAPPY TO DO SO. 2005 ODYSSEY WITH 10K MILES EXPERIENCING LOUD GRINDING UPON MEDIUM TO HARD BRAKING. MOSTLY OCCURS WITH IN TOWN DRIVING AFTER BRAKES HAVE WARMED UP. WILL OCCUR MULTIPLE TIMES IN A ROW AND THEN NOT BE HEARD AGAIN FOR WEEKS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE TAKEN IN INTO HONDA 2X'S TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY HAVE DRIVEN IT AND HEARD NOTHING. THEY CHECKED PADS AND ROTORS AND EVERYTHING LOOKS GREAT. AFTER BEING TREATED LIKE I WAS CRAZY I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ASKED TO HAVE A SERVICE MANAGER RIDE WITH ME WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS APPARENT. HE HEARD THE PROBLEM AND AFTER CONSULTING WITH A SHOP FOREMAN STATED THAT HONDA WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND I HAVE NO OPTIONS OF FIXING THIS UNTIL HONDA FIGURES OUT WHAT TO DO.*JB
THE RUBBER SEAL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PASSENGER DOOR IS COMING LOOSE. WHEN THE RUBBER PULLS AWAY, IT LEAVES A RIGID ALUMINUM THAT HAS HURT MY 2 AND 3 YEAR OLD WHEN THEY ARE GETTING OUT OF THE VAN. *NM
I PURCHASED A NEW 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY LX IN SEPTEMBER 2004. I HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE INCIDENTS IN WHICH THE BRAKES MAKE A VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE WITH NORMAL BRAKING THAT SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM THE FRONT BRAKES. THE SOUND AND FEEL IS LIKE THERE IS METAL GRINDING METAL FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN THE GRINDING OCCURS, BRAKING POWER IS MINIMAL. THE GRINDING OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY IN CITY DRIVING AFTER USING THE BRAKES MORE OFTEN. ITS ALMOST LIKE THEY HEAT UP AND GET STICKY??? THE SCARCITY EXPERIENCE WAS COMING DOWN A HILL TO A RED LIGHT AT 15 MPH, MY FAMILY WITHIN, COMING TO A MAJOR ROAD, AND THE FEELING OF THE VAN NOT STOPPING SCARED ME TO DEATH. THE GRINDING ISSUE HAS RESULTED IN LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY BUT NO LOSS OF CONTROL. AS I HAVE FOUND HERE, I AM PART OF A GROWING COMPLAINT FROM OTHER NEW ODYSSEY OWNERS WHO HAVE COMPLAINED AND EXPERIENCED THIS SAME PROBLEM. DO NOT KNOW IF THIS MATTERS OR NOT, WHEN THIS OCCURS, I CAN GO AND COOL THE BRAKES WITH WATER AND THE SENSATION WILL DIMINISH AT LEAST FOR A LITTLE WHILE. HE TOLD THE CONTACT THEY WOULD GET TO IT WHEN THEY COULD IF THEY EVEN GOT TO IT. HE RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER ABOUT A WEEK AGO. THE CONTACT CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO BRING THE CAR IN, BUT HE WAS PUT ON HOLD SEVERAL TIMES . HE WAS UNABLE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. HE DID NOT LEAVE THE CAR THERE. HELLO - I HAVE A 2005 ODYSSEY THAT MIGHT HAVE AND OTHERS MIGHT HAVE POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES. A WHILE BACK I FOUND A LOOSE BOLT IN THE DRIVERS SIDE SLIDING DOOR AND ANOTHER BOLT THAT WAS NOT TIGHTENED AT THE FACTORY. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS REPRESENTS A SERIOUS QUALITY CONTROL BREAKDOWN. WHILE MY PROBLEM WAS ADDRESSED, SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS OTHER ISSUES AND IN THE PROCESS OF FILING A LEMON LAW COMPLAINT AS A RESULT OF REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO FIX MY VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS ALSO THAT MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY HAVE FOUND SIX OTHER VEHICLES WITH LOOSE BOLTS IN THE CAR. IF SOMEONE IS IN A POSITION TO DO THIS, WHAT ELSE WOULD THIS PERSON POTENTIALLY HAVE DONE TO THIS VEHICLE AND OTHERS. THIS MAKES ME WONDER IF SOMEONE AT THE FACTORY WAS DOING THIS AS A JOKE OR IF THERE ARE OTHER POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUES RELATED TO THIS FINDING. IN ADDITION TO THIS, I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE DVD/NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND THE REAR CAMERA OFTEN STAYS ON WHILE MOVING FORWARD. THIS IS QUITE A DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER. I HAVE BEEN WORKING THESE ISSUES WITH HONDA CUSTOMER CARE FOR THE LAST 5 WEEKS WITH NO PROGRESS. ALSO, THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FIVE TIMES TO HAVE THIS LOOKED AT. I CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE. WHILE IT WAS IN HAVING THE DVD/NAV PROBLEM LOOKED AND THE REAR VIEW MIRROR FIXED (FELL OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE), THREE ADDITIONAL RECALLS WERE FOUND. ALSO, THE REAR VIEW MIRROR COULD NOT BE FIXED AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS REPLACED. HAD TO BRING IT BACK IN THE FOLLOWING DAY SINCE IT WAS NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY (HAD WIND NOISE). THIS ISSUE WAS FIXED. I AM NOW ON VACATION AND THE WINDSHIELD WASHERS STOPPED WORKING. THE PROBLEMS THAT CONTINUE TO MOUNT UP ON THIS VEHICLE MAKE ME QUESTION ITS OVERALL SAFETY AND ROAD WORTHINESS. *JB
