TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND MAKING A TURN, THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF FOR A BRIEF MOMENT. UPON RESTARTING THE VEHICLE IT FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE FAILURE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
WHILE DRIVING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING BEGAN TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE ENGINE IDLED DOWN THEN TEMPORARILY SEEMED NORMAL ONLY TO HAVE IT REOCCUR IN A MATTER OF SECONDS. THE VSA LIGHT INCLUDING THE SYMBOL AND THE INITIALS VSA BECAME ILLUMINATED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT MULTIPLE TIMES ONLY TO HAVE IT REOCCUR OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I HAD JUST HAD THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACED FOR A SECOND TIME TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IN REPLACING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THE SERVICE CREW PUNCTURED MY RADIATOR AND HAD TO REPLACE THAT AS WELL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD ME THE VSA SENOR CONTROL CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. THEY INDICATED THAT THE PART WOULD TAKE A WEEK AND A HALF TO GET THE PART WHICH SEEMS VERY STRANGE. THE COST FOR THE PART IS $500 AND THE INSTALLATION WILL BE $276.25. *TR
PAINT FAILURE ON ROOF AND SPREADING. *TR
OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY LX IS HAVING MASSIVE PAINT PEELING ISSUES. THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OFFERED FOR THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAS SINCE EXPIRED, BUT AT THE TIME OF THE WARRANTY WE DID NOT NOTICE A PROBLEM. IT NOW HAS 60% PAINT LOSS ON THE ROOF AND PATCHES AS LARGE AS A HAND ON THE BODY ARE PEELING. VAN IS GARAGE KEPT AND WELL MAINTAINED. AFTER CONTACTING THE HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE VAN WAS PURCHASED, WE WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO HONDA REPS IN OUR AREA TO INSPECT VAN AND THEY DON'T EXPECT ONE UNTIL NEXT MONTH OR SO. THE SERVICE MANAGER IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN TO WAIT UNTIL THE REP IS AVAILABLE TO INSPECT VAN. BY THE TIME THE REP SEES OUR VAN, WE MAY HAVE NO PAINT LEFT. *TR
OUR VEHICLE HAS A SAFETY RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM WE HAVE WITH OUR VEHICLE (NHTSA RECALL # 05V-344) BUT OUR VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. SINCE THE EXACT PROBLEM WE HAVE IS PART OF A RECALL THE MAKE/MODEL/YEAR OF OUR VEHICLE, WE ARE QUESTIONING WHY OUR VIN IS NOT INCLUDED, AND QUESTIONING WHETHER THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE OTHER VINS (INCLUDING OUR NUMBER). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE SEAT BELT UNLATCHED INDEPENDENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION. ADDED GAS INCREASED ENGINE RPM AND FINALLY, SMOKE APPEARED AND THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED OVER. WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST SHOP AND TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BLEW OUT OF ITSELF BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE LEAK. SHOP REFILLED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND SENT US ON OUR WAY. 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD, IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND THIS TIME I DIDN'T REV THE ENGINE HARD AND PULLED OVER TO FIND THAT THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT, EITHER DRIVE, OR REVERSE. SMELL OF BURNING TRANSMISSION FLUID. TOWED AGAIN TO THE LOCAL TRANSMISSION SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS IN NEED OF A REBUILD. COST IS UPWARDS OF $2500. WE CANNOT AFFORD A REBUILT TRANSMISSION ESPECIALLY AFTER PAYING OUT TAXES AND BEING AFFECTED BY SANDY JUST BEFORE. HONDA IS NOT HELPING, WAS TOLD THAT THERE ARE NO KNOWN ISSUES WITH YOUR MODEL YEAR AND TRANSMISSION. I KEPT INSISTING THAT THERE ARE MANY FORUMS OUT THERE THAT SAY OTHERWISE BUT HONDA WILL NOT ADMIT THE FACT THAT THEIR TRANSMISSIONS ARE FLAWED. THE 2006 CLASS ACTION DOES NOT AFFECT MY YEAR SO LET'S HOPE MORE PEOPLE OUT THERE WILL BE ABLE TO PERSUADE FOR ANOTHER CASE. *TT
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY HAS TO REPLACED AND HONDA IS CLAIMING THAT IS NORMAL FOR A TRANSMISSION TO GO AT 100000 MILES. THE CAR DRIVES FINE FOR SHORT DISTANCES BUT THEN AFTER LONG DISTANCES IT GOES 5 MILES AN HOUR AND REVS REALLY HIGH. IT WAS TOWED TO HONDA WHERE THEY TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. I ASKED THEM TO DRAIN THE FLUID AND REPLACE IT. THEY DID THAT THEN DROVE IT AROUND AND DRAINED IT AGAIN AND IT WAS DIRTY AND BURNING. THEY ARE PUTTING IN A REFURBISHED TRANSMISSION WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I FEEL THAT WITH A HONDA THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD LAST A LOT LONGER AND THINK THIS IS A HONDA ISSUE. *TR
AS I STARTED TO RECEIVE NOTICE THAT MY NAVIGATION DISC NEEDED REPLACING, THE DISC FAILED, SHUTTING DOWN THE ENTIRE NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND RENDERING ALL CONSOLE CONTROLS USELESS. THOUGH THAT IS IRRITATING, THE SAFETY CONCERN I HAVE IS THAT IT ALSO SHUT DOWN THE USE OF MY BACK-UP CAMERA. ALTHOUGH I AM ABLE TO USE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT THE CAMERA, SEVERAL "ALMOST" ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED DUE TO THE BLIND SPOTS I CAN NO LONGER SEE WITHOUT THE USE OF THE CAMERA.
AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON PERIODICALLY, SOMETIMES STAYS ON FOR DURATION OF THE DRIVE, SOMETIMES GOES OFF. THIS HAS BEEN CONSISTENT SINCE EARLY 2014. REPORTED THIS TO DEALER WHEN TAKATA RECALL HAPPENED. DEALER SAYS NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED AND OFFERED TO DIAGNOSE AIR BAG LIGHT ISSUE FOR $90. I HAVE DECLINED THIS OFFER. IN LIGHT OF TAKATA RECALL, AND MY VEHICLE'S MAKE/MODEL IN RELATION, I DON'T BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS SERVICE.
DEALER SAID THAT THE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTS WERE CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SIDE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE ALSO FAILING. *TR
WHEN ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY (BEGAN AT APPROX. 55MPH), MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY. ANY ACCELERATION AT OR HIGHER THAN THE 55MPH MARK CONTINUES TO MAKE THE VEHICLE SHAKE. WE BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS CAUSED BY DAMAGED/BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS. *TR
THE 3RD ROW SEAT LATCH BECAME "LOOSE" OVER TIME SO THAT THE SEAT WOULD NOT LATCH INTO THE FLOOR AT ALL. *TR
REPLACED FRONT ENGINE MOUNT ON MARCH 2014, NOW (OCT 2014) CAR IS DUE FOR REAR MOUNT AT 102,500 MILES. HONDA ODYSSEY VIBRATION CAUSED BY FAILED REAR ENGINE MOUNT DANGEROUS AT HIGH SPEED. THERE SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS, AFFECTING TO THOUSANDS OF ODYSSEY OWNERS. WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? *TR
MY WIFE HAD A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT AND WAS WAITING IN THE OFFICE. SHE HAS PARKED THE CAR IN PARKING LOT. AFTER SOMETIME ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR'S ALARM WENT OFF. ALL FROM DOCTOR'S OFFICE RUSHED OUT TO PARKING LOT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENED. SHE NOTICED SOME SMOKE COMING OUT UNDER THE HOOD. AND WITHIN SECONDS CAR CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNT. WHOLE FRONT OF THE CAR BURNT COMPLETELY. INSURANCE COMPANY HAS CALLED IT A TOTAL LOSS. I'M STILL PUZZLED TO FIGURE IT OUT WHY THIS HAS HAPPENED. CAR WAS PARKED AND ENGINE WAS OFF. CAR WAS MAINTAINED AS PER THE HONDA'S GUIDELINES. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS OR WARNING SIGNS WHAT SO EVER. IT WAS RUNNING PERFECTLY FINE. HAD ONLY 76000 MILES ON IT. AND STRONGLY BELIEVE MANY YEARS OF DRIVING LEFT IN IT. WE WERE PLEASED WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF IT OVER THE YEARS. I'D ASK NHTSA TO LOOK IN TO THE INCIDENCE AND HAVE HONDA CONTACT ME AND REIMBURSE FOR OUR LOSS WHICH IS NOT AT ALL OUR FAULT. *TR
CRIMINAL! BOTH SLIDING DOORS ON OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY MINIVAN (CHILDREN) DO NOT CLOSE. NOT SURE WHO IS MORE CULPABLE HONDA OR THE NHTSA.
WHEN MANEUVERING IN LOW MILEAGE AREAS, I.E. DRIVEWAYS, PARKING LOTS, MY POWER STEERING PUMP DOES NOT ASSIST WELL, IF AT ALL. THE VEHICLE MAKES A NOISE SIMILAR TO AN RC CAR WITH A DYING BATTERY AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO MOVE. IN ORDER TO GET OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, IT CAN TAKE ME UP TO 10 OR SO MOVES BECAUSE I CANNOT GET THE WHEEL TO TURN PROPERLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP, THERE WAS SMOKE SEEN FROM UNDER THE FRONT HOOD. THE VEHICLE THEN SUDDENLY BURST INTO FLAMES WITHOUT WARNING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
ON GRADE OR WHEN ACCELERATING SLOWLY BETWEEN 25-30 MPH THE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY. THIS SEAMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE, AND STILL NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN MADE. MANY SAY IT IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER ON MODELS FROM 05-08. *TR
STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT PUT TOGETHER CORRECTLY CAN CAUSE AN ACCICENT. *TR
FOR THE SECOND TIME, THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER DOOR ON OUR CAR OPENED WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. THE DOORS ARE VERY TROUBLESOME, REFUSING TO CLOSE, SHUTTING ON PASSENGERS AND EMIT A LOUD BEEPING NOISE WHEN NOT ABLE TO LATCH. NO MATTER WHAT WE DO, WE CANNOT GET THE NOISE TO STOP AND HAVE TO PUT THE DOOR IN MANUAL TO GET THE NOISE TO STOP. AFTER THE FIRST TIME THE DOOR OPENED, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THE MECHANISMS WERE FINE AND IT WAS PROBABLY A STRING. YESTERDAY IT OPENED ABOUT 5 INCHES WHEN I HAD A CHILD IN THAT SEAT. THE DEALER TOLD US TODAY THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO UNLESS THEY CAN RECREATE IT. HONDA TOLD US TO MAKE SURE THE KIDS WEAR SEAT BELTS. AN ONLINE SEARCH PROVED OUR SITUATION IS NOT UNIQUE. WE ARE SHOPPING FOR A NEW CAR, BUT ARE ASTONISHED AT THE LACK OF CARE HONDA HAS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CLIENTS. *TR
AIR BAG SIGN IS ON AND STAYS ON. ALSO THE DOOR ON THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER SLIDING WILL NOT CLOSE OR OPEN PROPERLY. THEY OPEN WHEN DRIVING AUTOMATICALLY. IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SO LONG BUT MY MOM HAS NOT REPORTED. THE PAINT HAS CHIP AWAY AND WE DID NOT GET A RECALL NOTICE. I CHECKED AND NOW IT IS TOO LATE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SRS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE AIR BAG MODULE REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER: 05V344000 (AIR BAG) AND CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
HI I PURCHASED USED HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING 2005 AND DRIVING THE SAME PRESENT METER READING IS 160K. I DID NOT GET ANY SERVICE RECORDS OF THE VEHICLE FROM PREVIOUS OWNERS AND COULD NOT KNOW WHETHER THESE PROBLEMS EXISTS PREVIOUSLY ALSO. ONE DAY LEFT SLIDING DOOR OF THE TOURING COULD NOT OPEN MANUALLY AND AUTO ALSO. AFTER A WEEK A TIME IT STARTED OPENING IT SELF. LATER I FOUND THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR AND TAIL GATE DOOR OR BACK TRUNK DOOR ARE LOCKED AND CAN NOT OPEN WITH ELECTRICAL SWITCHES AND ALSO CAN NOT OPEN MANUALLY ALSO. IT IS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE NOT ABLE TO OPEN MANUALLY ALSO IN CASE ANY ACCIDENT WHICH MAY TAKE LIFE OF PERSON NOT ABLE TO COME OUT OF THE VAN. I WOULD LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS FEATURE IN THIS VEHICLE AND I DID NOT APPROACH THE HONDA COMPANY ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE SUGGEST ME TO TAKE FURTHER ACTION. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING ALONG 101 IN THE AFTERNOON, TURNED ON THE AC, IT STARTED TO BLOW OUT HOT AIR, REALLY HOT AIR. HAVE A MECHANIC CHECKED ON IT, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE CONDENSER BROKE, A/C DEFECTS. FOUND LOTS OF HONDA OWNERS HAVE THE PROBLEM. *TR
WHERE DO I START....ORIGINAL OWNER, PURCHASED BRAND NEW. NO PROBLEMS FOR ABOUT 3-4 YEARS, AND THEN: TRANSMISSION WHINE, TOOK IN TO DEALER OFF AND ON FOR SEVERAL YEARS, COULD NEVER IDENTIFY ISSUE, THEY SAID. BUT AS SOON AS THE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRED, MIRACULOUSLY, THEY IDENTIFIED IT, AND NOW SAY I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. MOTOR MOUNTS FOUND TO HAVE CRACKED; PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON PER INTERNET FORUMS, BUT HONDA DEALERSHIP DENIES RESPONSIBILITY FOR POOR DESIGN/FAULTY MOUNTS. DOOR FOR SECOND ROW HAS ISSUES SLIDING; ANOTHER COMMON PROBLEM PER INTERNET BUT NOT PER DEALER. AND FINALLY, THE STRUTS FOR THE REAR HATCH BROKE, ALMOST INJURING MY SON VERY BADLY WHEN HE WAS PUTTING HIS BIKE IN THE BACK. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND ASKED ABOUT A RECALL AND THEY SAID NO. I PAID $300 4 MONTHS AGO, AND JUST NOW FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL 3 YEARS AGO, AND THEY DENIED IT!!!!! I HATE HONDA AND WILL NEVER BUY THEIR CARS, AND DO NOT TRUST THE DEALERSHIP. UGHHH!!!! *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON AND STAYS ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. MANY, MANY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. FOR SOME REASON MANUFACTURE YEAR 2005 WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE MOST RECENT RECALL? WE GOT THE INITIAL LETTER TELLING US OUR AIR BAGS WOULD BE A RECALL ITEM IN THE SUMMER, 2014 BUT THEN NEVER RECEIVED A FOLLOW-UP LETTER. UPON INVESTIGATION ON MY PART I FOUND OUT THAT MY MODEL YEAR, 2005, AIR BAGS DID NOT GET RECALLED. BUT WE ARE HAVING THE SAME AIR BAG ISSUE AND SEEMS LIKE WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED ON SUCH AN IMPORTANT SAFETY MATTER. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON; I DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSES IT; IT COMES ON AND GOES OFF WITHOUT WARNING. *TR
DURING COLD WEATHER, THE AUTOMATIC REAR PASSENGERS DOORS FAILED TO CLOSE AND LOCK PROPERLY, ALLOWING THE DOORS TO OPEN. THIS ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN THE TEMPERATURE GETS BELOW 32 DEGREES. PROBLEM IS THE VAN IS KEPT IN GARAGE WHERE IT IS WARM, BUT WHEN OUT OF THE GARAGE (AWAY FROM HOME) AND THIS HAPPENS, NO WAY TO SAFELY GET HOME WITH THE DOORS NOT CLOSED PROPERLY, ESPECIALLY WITH CHILDREN IN THE BACK. *TR
AFTER FILLING THE GAS TANK; A GASOLINE SMELL FILLED THE CABIN AND CONTINUED TO EXIST UNTIL THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED BY THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I INQUIRED AS TO A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE SERVICE ADVISER STATED THAT HE WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY RECALL NOTICE FOR THE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. A CRACK WAS DISCOVERED ON THE TOP OF THE DEVICE. WOULD HONDA BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS FAILED PART? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH CLOSED AND THE FAILURE WOULD RECUR INTERMITTENTLY FOR SIX MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. UPDATED 06/27/14*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING THE DOOR OPENED,CABLE SNAPPED, THEN CAME OFF THE BRACKETS. UPDATED 07/1/2014 *JS
POWER STEERING DOES NOT WORK WELL AT LOW SPEEDS (I.E. PARKING AND TURNING CORNERS). VEHICLE IS HARD TO TURN AND COULD RESULT IN CRASH. ALSO, REAR MOTOR HAS FAILED, WHICH COULD RESULT IN UNDESIRABLE SHIFTING OF TRANSMISSION. *TR
A STRONG GASOLINE SMELL IN THE CABIN AND ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY VAN. I CALLED HONDA IN OCTOBER ABOUT IT THEY SAID TAKE TO DEALER TO CHECK FUEL RELAY SWITCH, DEALER SAID IT WAS OKAY, BUT TO DIAGNOSE THE SMELL THEY HAVE TO CHARGE ME $120. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY SO I HAD TO LEAVE. BEEN SICK WITH DEALING CANCER APPOINTMENTS AND , HAD NO TIME OR MONEY TO DEAL WITH CAR, FINALLY I TOOK IT ON 12/6/2016 TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC FOR ONLY $40 AND THEY SAID IT HAD A CRACK ON TOP OF THE FUEL PUMP CASING. BUT THE WHOLE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPAIRED AND WAS GOING TO COST $563.
