THIS IS A NEW CAR PURCHASED AND SERVICED BY THE DEALER FROM THE DATE OF DELIVERY (12/28/04). THE HONDA SERVICE DEPT DID NOT DISCOVER THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS UNTIL IT MALFUNCTIONED. THIS IS VERY UNUSUAL. I HAVE ALL THE SERVICE DOCUMENTS TO PROVE IT. THE HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENT WOULD LIKE ME TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THEIR NEGLIGENCE CAUSED THIS AUTO TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE CONSUMER STATED A MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS A WIRING PROBLEM AND FIXED IT. HOWEVER, THREE DAYS LATER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN IT WAS PUT IN DRIVE AND THEREFORE IT HAD TO BE TOWED. LATER IN THE DAY, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER STATING THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 09/12/12
HAD OUR 05 ODYSSEY EX-L IN FOR STANDARD SERVICING AND WAS TOLD REAR AND PASSENGER SIDE MOTOR MOUNTS REQUIRED REPLACING (AT A COST OF $1200+)! VAN EXPERIENCES NOTICEABLE NOISE AND VIBRATION AS IS SHIFTS IN AND OUT OF THE ECO PHASE OF ENGINE OPERATION. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE THAT REQUIRED MOTOR MOUNT REPLACEMENT AND AFTER RESEARCH, A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS APPARENTLY ISSUED BACK IN 2006 ON THIS ISSUE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE ON THE 2005 TIME FRAME ODYSSEYS. THIS IS CLEARLY AN ENGINEERING ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED THRU HONDA VIA RECALL! *TR
BROKEN ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT REAR. TOOK CAR IN FOR TORQUE CONVERTER RECALL. DEALER DID THE SOFTWARE UPDATE AND THEN ADVISED THAT ENGINE MOUNT IS BROKEN. *TR
WITH NO PRIOR WARNING THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING OUT OF THE TAIL PIPE. WHEN PULLED OVER, CAR WAS SMOKING UNDER HOOD AND ALL FLUID POURED OUT OF THE BOTTOM. HAD CAR TOWED TO MECHANIC. "BLOWN OR CRACKED" HEAD GASKET WAS HIS DIAGNOSIS. HAD CAR TOWED TO SHOP TO HAVE REPAIRED. AFTER TWO WEEKS IN THE SHOP, THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR WAS STILL LEAKING ANTIFREEZE INTO THE OIL AND THAT THERE IS A POROUS LEAK SOMEWHERE IN THE ENGINE. THIS CAR IS NOT ABUSED AND I HAVE REGULAR OIL CHANGES WITH FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL. THIS IS JUST ICING ON THE CAKE. I WAS EXCITED TO PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE HONDA HAS SUCH A GREAT NAME. IN THE SUMMER OF 2009 I HAD TO REPAIR THE AIR CONDITIONING ($900) AND REPLACE WHEEL BEARINGS ($300). THIS WAS JUST A FEW MONTHS AFTER I REPLACED THE TIRES FOR THE FIRST TIME ($2000). (PURCHASED VEHICLE USED IN 2008 W/ 35000 MILES) IN 2010 IT WAS TIME FOR TIRES AGAIN (NOT EVEN 20K MILES LATER). I DEPAXED THEM FOR $2000 AND AM STILL RUNNING ON THIS SAME SET OF TIRES. IT SEEMS THAT THE ENGINE PROBLEM IS A DEFECT WITH HONDA AND FROM WHAT I AM READING, THEY WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED HONDA IN ANY WAY BUT WAS CURIOUS IF IT WOULD MATTER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT GASOLINE FUEL LEAKED FROM THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE A PRIVATE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN FAILED TO QUALIFY FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V097000(FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 139,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 141,000 .
MOTOR MOUNTS WERE CRACKED. I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THEM AFTER I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS WASN'T A RECALL ISSUE. THIS CAUSES AN EXTREME VIBRATION WHICH EFFECTS THE HANDLING OF THE CAR AND PASSENGER COMFORT.
WITHOUT WARNING, ON A BUSY INTERSTATE IN BIRMINGHAM, AL WHILE TRAVELING TO FLORIDA ON VACATION, MY VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION BURNED UP AND GAVE OUT. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT, NO HINT OF AN ISSUE PRIOR TO IT FAILING, AND A TRANSMISSION FLUSH AND FILL WAS PERFORMED AT 60,000 MILES TWO YEARS AGO, PER THE RECOMMENDED INTERVAL BY HONDA. I HAD TO PULL OVER TWO LANES TO THE SHOULDER IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AT FULL SPEED WITH MY CAR SMOKING AND SPEWING TRANSMISSION FLUID ALL OVER THE ROADWAY AND CARS (PLUS A MOTORCYCLE) THAT WERE BEHIND ME. *TR
MOTOR SURGES WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. *TR
I WAS RETURNING HOME AND AFTER DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES OF DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH I HEARD A POP UNDER THE HOOD OF MY VAN AND BEGAN TO SEE SMOKE. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE AND HAD TO TURN ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT. UPON TAKING MY VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC, I WAS TOLD MY TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. *TR
CAR IS SOMETIMES ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. HAS BEEN REPORTED TO DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES. FINALLY HAD THE STEERING PUMP REPLACED FOR $271.77, THIS AFTER THEY HAD REPLACED IT PREVIOUSLY UNDER WARRANTY. SO HAVE HAD THREE STEERING PUMPS IN THIS CAR AND SOMETIMES CANNOT MOVE THE WHEEL ENOUGH TO GET OUT OF PARKING SPOT OR GARAGE. LOCAL DEALER REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *TR
I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT HONDA NOW HAS A SOFTWARE FIX FOR SHUDDERING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND SHAKING. OUR 2005 ODYSSEY TOURING WOULD SHAKE BETWEEN 35-45 MPH. WE HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED SEVERAL TIME AND NEVER HAD A BROKEN ENGINE MOUNT. HONDA JUST CAME OUT WITH THIS FIX IN LATE JUNE 2012 AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE SOLVED OUR PROBLEM. OUR HONDA GARAGE INSTALLED THIS SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR FREE EVEN THOUGH WE NOW HAVE 122K. IT ONLY TAKES 15 MINUTES. HOPE THIS HELPS. *TR
THE SUPPORT STRUTS FOR THE TAILGATE FAILED. THE DOOR CAME CRASHING DOWN ON MOTHER AND DAUGHTER. MOTHER PUSHED DAUGHTER OUT OF WAY BUT THE DOOR CAUGHT THE MOTHER ON THE RIGHT ARM. UPPER ARM RECEIVED A DEEP BRUISE 1 INCH IN DIAMETER. THE DOOR WORKED WELL PRIOR TO THIS. THERE HAD BEEN NO WARNING LIKE SLOW TO LIFT OR HARD TO LIFT OPEN (OR TO CLOSE). *JS
VSA (VEHICLE STABILITY ASSIST) MODULATOR FAILED UPON ENGINE START UP IN A HONDA ODYSSEY MINI-VAN WITH JUST OVER 19,000 TOTAL MILES. DOWNLOADED DIAGNOSTIC CODE CONFIRMED FAILURE OF THE VSA MODULATOR. VSA FAILURE ALSO MEANS LOSS OF ABS FUNCTION ON THE BRAKES. COMPONENT PRICE IS NEARLY $1000. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE COMPONENT FAILURE AFTER VERY LITTLE ACTUAL USE OF THE VAN. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY BASED ON ELAPSED TIME. RESEARCH INDICATES THAT EARLY (LOW MILEAGE) VSA MODULATOR FAILURES ARE VERY COMMON IN HONDA ODYSSEYS AND OTHER HONDA VEHICLES. *TR
VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXHIBITING A VERY HARSH SHAKING/VIBRATION WHILE IN ECO MODE. THIS IS DISTRACTING AS WELL AS UNCOMFORTABLE. RECENTLY THE VIBRATION HAS GOTTEN SO BAD, WE CAN NOT SEE OUT OF ANY OF THE MIRRORS AS THE SHAKING VIBRATES THEM TO THE POINT OF COMPLETE USELESSNESS. THE WORST PART IS THAT WE JUST PAID $2000 AT A DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE REAR MOTOR MOUNT AND FLUSH TRANSMISSION AGAIN. WE HAVE HAD THIS VAN SINCE 60K AND SERVICED TRANSMISSION FOUR TIMES NOW, REPLACING MOTOR MOUNT TWICE. THIS TIME, WITH NO APPARENT EFFECT. *TR
THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIX FOR THE BRAKE GRINDING COMPLAINTS IN SUMMER WHILE BRAKING ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE. IT HAPPENS TO MY 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY TOURING FREQUENTLY TOO. IT HAPPENED IN THE MORNING OF JUNE 1 2012 AND WHEN I GOT HOME, I POWER WASHED MY VEHICLE, INCLUDING THE WHEELS WHICH WERE DIRTY WITH BRAKE DUST. WHEN I BRAKED ON THE SAME HILL TWO HOURS LATER, NO GRINDING AND NO FADING OF BRAKES. HOPE THIS CONTINUES TO WORK AND HELPS OTHERS. *TT
I HAVE A NAVY BLUE COLOR HONDA ODYSSEY 2005. NOW, THAT CAR IS BECOMING A JUNK BECAUSE OF THE PAINT DEFECT. AND IT START CHANGING WITH RUST. PAINT PEELING BECOMES SERIOUS DAY AFTER DAY, ALMOST EVERYWHERE THE TOP OF THE CAR, AND PAINT START TO PEEL BONNET TOO. RECENTLY, I FOUND THAT CERTAIN MODEL CARS WHICH I HAVE HAD PAINT DEFECT, BUT HONDA COMPANY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIX MY CAR BECAUSE THE DATE THEY SAT FOR REPAIRING WAS OVER. THEY NEVER SEND ANY RECALL INFORMATION ABOUT THIS DEFECT. THIS PAINT PEELING ORIGINALLY START FROM THE ROOF, SO IT IS HARD TO NOTICE QUICKLY. IT IS DEFINITELY THE MANUFACTURAL DEFECT, SO HONDA COMPANY HAS TO FIX THIS NO MATTER WHAT DATE CUSTOMERS FIND OUT, AND HONDA HAD TO SEND INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PAINT DEFECT EARLY FOR PREVENTING THIS HAPPENING. RECENTLY NOTICED LIKE THE BRAKES ARE NOT RELEASED FULLY AFTER THE APPLICATION RESULTING IN A "FLAT TIRE FEELING WITH NOISE" TOOK THE MINIVAN FOR SCHEDULED RECALL SERVICE. PER SERVICE PERSON, THEY REPLACED THE CAPS OF BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. DRIVING BACK HOME @ 70 MILES, FELT LIKE THE STEERING LOOSING CONTROL, STOPPED AT THE NEAR BY CHEVROLET SERVICE CENTER: THEY DIDN'T FELT ANY MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE STEERING BUT FELT LIKE THE SERVICE WASN'T DONE AS THEY SAID. ALL THE DUST WAS EVENLY THERE ALL OVER THE MASTER CYLINDER: ALL OVER THE BONNET. I FEEL NO CHANGE WITH THE FRICTION NOISE FROM THE BRAKES: " A LITTLE WORSE?" HOW DO I ENSURE THAT A GENUINE SERVICE WAS DONE? NOW I FEEL INSECURE TO DRIVE ON THIS, LIKE DRIVING ON BLACK ICES. THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM WAS REST LAST TIME, BUT NOT IT IS BACK TO NOT WORKING GOOD: RESULTING WITH TROUBLE WITH THE A/C KNOB NOT WORKING SMOOTHLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR HATCH WAS OPENED USING THE AUTOMATIC KEY FOB. THE REAR HATCH THEN CAME IN CONTACT WITH A POLE LOCATED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE HATCH BEGAN TO CLOSE BUT IT COULD NOT BE CLOSED BECAUSE THE HATCH WAS KNOCKED OUT OF ALIGNMENT BY THE POLE. AS A RESULT, THE REAR HATCHED CONTINUED TO AUTOMATICALLY OPEN AND CLOSE UNTIL THE CONTACT SLAMMED IT CLOSED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE REAR HATCH CONTINUED TO UNINTENTIONALLY OPEN AND CLOSE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
FAULTY VSA MODULATOR / ABS PUMP. THE VSA INDICATOR LIGHT STAYS ON AND DIAG CHECK BY DEALER SHOWS ERROR CODES 76-1 AND 66-1. THE ADVISE IS TO REPLACE THE MODULATOR. THIS EQUIPMENT IS ALREADY PROVEN FAULTY IN SIMILAR HONDA MODELS (ODYSSEY 2007-2008) AND RECALLED. HONDA ODYSSEY 2005 ALSO NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. CUSTOMERS SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO SPEND A COUPLE OF THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THIS. *JS
I OWN A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY EX-L. HAD VEHICLE IN THE DEALERSHIP TODAY FOR VIRGINIA STATE VEHICLE INSPECTION AND THE VEHICLE FAILED DUE TO A BROKEN FRONT ENGINE MOUNT. VEHICLE HAS 105,000 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY 5,000 MILES OUT OF EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS APPEARS TO BE COMMON PROBLEM AS SEEN FROM OTHER POSTS ON THE INTERNET ...SO MUCH SO THAT THE DEALER CERTAINLY WAS AWARE OF IT TO FIND IN LESS THAN A 5 MINUTE LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A DRIVEABILITY COMPLAINT BY ME. NHTSA SHOULD INVESTIGATE THIS COMMON SAFETY FAILURE MODE FOR THE HONDA ODYSSEY. COSTS TO REPAIR TOTALED $1002.14 ($689.64 PARTS AND $312.50 LABOR) TO REPAIR THIS SAFETY ISSUE FOUND DURING STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHE OPENED THE REAR SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHILE OPENING THE DOOR, TWO PINS DETACHED FROM THE BACK END OF THE DOOR AND THE DOOR HUNG DOWNWARD. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE PINS AND NOTICED THAT THEY WERE CORRODED. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000. UPDATED 6/4/12 *CN
OUR 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP AND WE WERE ON OUR WAY HOME. WE WERE AT A STOPLIGHT WHEN WE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. WE QUICKLY DROVE IT A SHORT DISTANCE AWAY FROM ANYONE, JUMPED OUT AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS COMPLETELY BURNT/DESTROYED AND THE VEHICLE WAS WRITTEN OFF BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. A REPORT WAS MADE TO THE DEALERSHIP, AS WELL AS AMERICAN HONDA WITH ACCOMPANYING INVESTIGATIVE REPORT AND PHOTOGRAPHS.THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS UNDETERMINED BUT ORIGINATED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.. *TR
I JUST TOOK MY CAR IN FOR THE MASTER CYLINDER RECALL TO THE DEALER. AFTER INSPECTING THE CAR THE DEALER HAS FOUND AND DIAGNOSED A FAIL STATUS ON FRONT ENGINE AND RIGHT ENGINE MOUNTS. THE DEALER IS QUOTING APPROXIMATELY $700.00 TO REPLACE THESE BROKEN MOUNTS. AFTER DOING AN INTERNET SEARCH ON THE ISSUE WITH THESE CARS, I FIND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS PREVALENT IN HONDA ODYSSEY 2005 AND GREATER MODELS. HONDA CORPORATION SHOULD RECALL AND REPAIR THESE ISSUE. I AM SURPRISED OF HOW MANY RECALLS I HAVE GOTTEN ON THIS ODYSSEY, I OWN OTHER HONDA'S AND LOVE HONDA QUALITY. PLEASE RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE. *TR
BROKEN ENGINE MOUNT(S). GENERAL HIGHWAY DRIVING. *TR
WHILE ON VACATION, THE ELECTRIC SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FAILED IN SUCH A WAY THAT THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED MORE THAN A FEW INCHES. WE WERE STILL ABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR AND SAFELY DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO WAY TO MANUALLY OVERRIDE THE ELECTRIC OPENING MECHANISM WHERE IT WAS STUCK, SO THE DOOR COULD NOT BE USED. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR ALSO FAILED. IN THIS CASE, THE DOOR WAS STUCK HALF OPEN AND COULD NOT BE MOVED EITHER TO FULLY OPEN IT OR CLOSE IT. THE DOOR WAS STUCK OPEN UNTIL WE COULD GET THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE ELECTRICALLY OPERATED DOORS SHOULD BE DESIGNED IN SUCH A WAY THAT ALLOWS EASY MANUAL OPERATION OF THE DOORS IN THE EVENT OF A FAILURE OF THE ELECTRIC MOTOR AND OPENING MECHANISM. *TR
BROUGHT IN MY 2005 ODYSSEY FOR ANNUAL INSPECTION IN MARCH 2012 AND WAS INFORMED THAT BOTH FRONT AND REAR ENGINE MOUNTS WERE BROKEN. HONDA DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS WAS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE V6 HONDA VEHICLES, AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE. ODYSSEY WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $830+TAX. I RESEARCHED ON-LINE, AND CONFIRMED THAT IT IS INDEED A COMMON OCCURRENCE, AS THERE WERE NUMEROUS POSTINGS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I TOOK THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE DEALERSHIP AND CONTACTED THE HONDA CORPORATION. PERSON WHO TOOK THE CALL ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER, AND INDICATED THAT I MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT. THE PERSON WHO FOLLOWED UP 1 WEEK LATER INDICATED THAT THIS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, AND THEREFORE HONDA WILL NOT REIMBURSE ANY AMOUNT. THEY INDICATED THAT THE ENGINE MOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR OUT BETWEEN 80 AND 100K MILES. I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES, AND NONE EVER HAD THIS SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DESIGN DEFECT WHICH HONDA NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR, AND PERFORM A RECALL FOR REPAIRS. *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR STUCK CLOSED. SON COULD NOT GET OUT. PANICKED STATE BECAUSE HE WENT BACK TO GET SOMETHING FROM VAN AND CLOSED THE DOOR WHILE HE LOOKED FOR IT. COULD NOT GET OUT AS DOOR WAS STUCK. HE TRIED TO OPEN SEVERAL TIMES, BUT NO USE. DOOR WILL NOT OPEN MANUALLY OR AUTOMATICALLY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A BIGGER PROBLEM IF IT WERE SUMMER HERE IN PHOENIX ARIZONA AS THE TEMPERATURE COULD HAVE BEEN 115 DEGREES OR HIGHER OUTSIDE MAKING THE TEMPERATURE AT LEAST 20-30 DEGREES HOTTER INSIDE. LUCKILY THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE 80'S IN THE PHOENIX AREA TODAY. WE VISIT OUR RELATIVES IN ARIZONA AT LEAST ONCE EVERY YEAR AND CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE DOOR ISSUES ON OUR ALMOST 3,000 MILE ROUND TRIP. WE HAVE 2 CHILDREN AND FOR SAFETY REASONS CANNOT HAVE OUR DOORS FAIL TO CLOSE OR OPEN PROPERLY FOR ANY REASON, AT ANY TIME! *TR

WHEN I TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR 15K MILE SERVICE TODAY, THEY NOTICED THAT MY FRONT ENGINE MOUNT HAD BROKEN AND TOLD ME TO GET IT REPLACED RIGHT AWAY AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ME $500 (LABOR AND PARTS). THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME ON ANY OF MY OTHER CARS AND I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN FLAW BY HONDA. WHEN I SEARCHED ONLINE, I FOUND SEVERAL PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS AND MANY OF THEM HAD THE REAR AND SIDE MOUNTS BROKEN TOO WHICH COSTS EVEN MORE TO FIX... HONDA NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS AN ENGINEERING DESIGN ISSUE AND RECALL THE VANS AND GET THEM FIXED FOR FREE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA ODYSSEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE BRAKING, THE RADIO WOULD ACTIVATE ON AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE NOR DID THE COMPUTER SHOW A CODE FOR THE MALFUNCTION. NO ACTION WAS TAKEN AS FAR AS A REMEDY REPAIR. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER DUE TO THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
I'D BEEN EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS OF JUDDER FOR OVER 3 YEARS THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING ODYSSEY. IT'S RARE AND HARD TO REPLICATE, SO NEVER BOTHERED TAKING TO HONDA DEALERSHIP OR ANY OTHER MECHANIC. I RECENTLY LEARNED THAT HONDA HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT I WAS NOT AWARE OF THE SAME. IT BASICALLY MEANS HONDA KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THERE WERE OTHER OWNERS WHO HAD EXPERIENCED SIMILAR PROBLEM. (PER HONDA IT'S A SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT NOT A RECALL, SO I WAS NOT PRO-ACTIVELY INFORMED ABOUT IT). AS PART OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY (8 YEARS/105K MILES) AND WOULD FIX THE ISSUE FOR FREE. I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS. SERVICE BULLETIN: 12-029 WHEN I LEARNED ABOUT THIS MY VEHICLE HAD CROSSED THE AGE BUT NOT THE MILEAGE (2014 AND 103K MILES). I REQUESTED THE DEALER AND HONDA TO MAKE AN EXCEPTION AS I WAS STILL WITHIN THE MILES THAT THEY HAD. I HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM LONG BEFORE I WAS AWARE, BUT DIDN'T BOTHER TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT DIDN'T BOTHER MY DRIVE. I FEEL HONDA SHOULD HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE FOR FREE, ESPECIALLY A KNOWN ISSUE. ADD TO THAT I AM CURIOUS WHY IT'S TREATED AS SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT NOT A RECALL. THE ENGINE BEGINS TO VIBRATES AND WILL CONTINUE UP TO 55 MPH. WHEN ACCELERATING ABOVE 55 MPH THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARS. OWNER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HAS ALSO CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. COME ON HONDA .... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I LIVE IN A HILLY TOWN. ALL WINTER LONG, NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. AS SOON AS IT GETS WARM AND I BRAKING WHEN COMING DOWN A HILL (EVEN A VERY GENTLE SLOPE), THE FRONT BRAKES MAKE THE MOST HORRIFIC GRINDING NOISE. AUG 2008, PURCHASED 4 VERSADO LX TIRES AT 46851 MILES. ON 14 AUG 2011, HAD A TIRE BLOW ON RIGHT REAR ON I-16. THERE WAS $75 DAMAGE TO CAR AS THE TIRE TORE THE FACTORY MUD GUARD FROM THE FENDER. TIRE WAS REPLACED FOR $53 UNDER WARRANTY AT 77968 MILES. ON 10 OCT 11, RETURNED TO DEALER AND FOUND 2ND TIRE SEPARATING. REPLACED FOR $73 UNDER WARRANTY AT 79720. ON 23 MAY 2012, 3RD TIRE WAS FOUND TO BE SEPARATING AT 84275 MILES. I CONTACTED TOYO BY EMAIL. REP CALLED MY LOCAL TIRE DEALER, RAFFIELD TIRE, AND DISCUSSED ISSUE. DEALER WAS TOLD TO RE-INSPECT 4TH TIRE CLOSELY WHILE REPLACING THE 3RD TIRE FOR $83 UNDER WARRANTY. IT APPEARED TO BE OK. ON 3 JUL 12 THE 4TH TIRE WAS REPLACED FOR $79 UNDER WARRANTY AT 85676. HAD LONG DISCUSSION WITH TOYO CUSTOMER SERVICE. WAS TOLD THERE WERE "NO KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS TIRE". VERY FUNNY THAT ALL 4 TIRES FOR MY VEHICLE FAILED. TIRE DEALER DOES ROTATION/BALANCE/CHECK EVERY 5000 MILES. WANTED TOYO TO REPLACE THIS TIRE AT THEIR COST DUE TO ALL OF THE TROUBLE I HAVE HAD. REP REFUSED, STATING THAT THE GOVERNMENT WOULD NOT LET THEM DO ANY CUSTOMER RELIEF OTHER THAN THE LIMITED WARRANTY ON TIRE. OTHERWISE, "THEY WOULD BE GUILTY OF HIDING DEFECT INFORMATION FROM THE GOVERNMENT". I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE ARE NO KNOWN ISSUES IF ALL 4 OF MY TIRES FAILED.
